Résumé :
This work proposes a lookup table based approach to track the maximum power from a solar photovoltaic (PV) module. The performance of the solar PV module is greatly influenced by various environmental factors and it is therefore necessary to operate the PV module at its optimal point so as to ensure that maximum power is extracted from the PV source. Several fixed step and variable step maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms have been proposed in the literature. In this paper a simple and fast maximum power tracking method based on lookup table approach is proposed. The maximum power point voltages for various insolation levels are obtained from the experimental setup and are fed to the look up table. This look up table thus formulated can then provide the reference voltage for various insolation conditions without many computations. The performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional MPPT methods like perturb and Observe (P&O), Incremental Conductance (INC) and Fuzzy logic (FLC) based MPPT. The simulation results show that the lookup table (LUT) approach tracks the maximum power point faster than the conventional algorithms under changing illumination conditions and reduces simulation time.

Résumé :
Different isocontour extraction methods use different cell types (tetrahedral, hexahedral, etc.) depending on the nature of the acquisition grids (structured, unstructured, etc.). The existing isocontouring methods have the following pre-steps for the actual extraction process: (a) identification of cell types, (b) identification of topologically independent instances for each cell type, (c) determination of surface primitives contained in the topologically independent instances and (d) generation of a lookup table such that the name of the entry is an instance of a cell and the entry is the triangle set for that instance. The extraction process outputs the triangles from the lookup table. In this paper we present a novel generic method that enables us to list topologically independent surface primitives called "templates" within any n-polytope cell namely tetrahedra, hexahedra etc. We have also modified the traditional lookup table such that name is the cell instance and the entry is face index representations of all template instances contained in that cell. To show an example, we have applied this approach on a hexahedron and listed the templates and subsequently we have showed how to construct a lookup table. Most modern graphics hardware render triangles faster if they are rendered collectively as triangle strips as opposed to individual triangles. With our modified lookup table approach we can identify triangles in the neighboring cell in a linear time and hence we are able to connect two triangle strips into a longer triangle strip on the fly during the extraction process. We have compared our approach with some existing methods. The following are some of the important features of the method: (1) Simplicity, (2) procedural triangulation and (3) face-index representation.

Résumé :
Temperature and voltage fluctuations affect delay sensitivity differently, as supply voltage is reduced. These differences make runtime variations particularly difficult to manage in dynamic voltage scaling systems, which adjust supply voltage in accordance with the required operating frequency. To include process variation in current table-lookup methods, a worst-case process is typically assumed. We propose a new method that takes process variation into account and reduces the excessive runtime variation guardbands. Our approach uses a ring oscillator to generate baseline frequencies, and employs a guardband lookup table to offset this baseline. The new method ensures robust operation and reduces power consumption by up to 20% compared with a method that assumes worst-case process variation in filling a lookup table.

Electrocardiograph (ECG) signals are very important part in diagnosis healthcare the heart diseases. The implemented ECG signals recognition system consists hardware devices, software algorithm and network connection. An ECG is a non-invasive way to help diagnose many common heart problems. A health-care provider can use an ECG to recognize irregular heartbeats, blocked or narrowed arteries in the heart, whether you have ever had a heart attack, and the quality of certain heart disease treatments. The main part of the software algorithm including the recognition of ECG signals parameters such as P-QRST. Since the voltages at which handheld ECG equipment operate are shrinking, signal processing has become an important challenge. The implemented ECG signal recognition approach based on both lookup table and neural networks techniques. In this approach, the extracted ECG features are compared with the stored features to recognize the heart diseases of the received ECG features. The introduction of neural network technology added new benefits to the system implementing the learning and training process.

Résumé :
We present a new combustion simulation technique based on a lookup table approach. In the proposed technique, a flow solver extracts the reaction rates from the look-up table using the mixture fraction, progress variable, and reaction time. Look-up table building and combustion simulation are carried out simultaneously. The reaction rates of the chemical species are recorded in the look-up table according to the mixture fraction, progress variable, and time scale of the reaction. Once the reaction rates are recorded, a direct integration to solve the chemical equations becomes unnecessary; thus, the time for computing the reaction rates is shortened. The proposed technique is applied to an eddy dissipation concept (EDC) model and it is validated through a simulation of a CO-H2-air nonpremixed flame. The results obtained by using the proposed technique are compared with experimental and computational data obtained by using the EDC model with direct integration. Good agreement between our method and the EDC model and the experimental data was found. Moreover, the computation time for the proposed technique is approximately 99.2% lower than that of the EDC model with direct integration.

Résumé :
Abstract The goal of this study is to transform the Harrington radiation parameterization into a transfer scheme or lookup table, which provides essentially the same output (heating rate profile and short- and longwave fluxes at the surface) at a fraction of the computational cost. The methodology put forth here does not introduce a new parameterization simply derived from the Harrington scheme but, rather, shows that given a generic parameterization it is possible to build an algorithm, largely not based on the physics, that mimics the outcome of the parent parameterization. The core concept is to compute the empirical orthogonal functions (EOFs) of all of the input variables of the parent scheme, run the scheme on the EOFs, and express the output of a generic input sounding exploiting the input–output pairs associated with the EOFs. The weights are based on the difference between the input and EOFs water vapor mixing ratios. A detailed overview of the algorithm and the development of a few transfer schemes are also presented. Results show very good agreement (r > 0.91) between the different transfer schemes and the Harrington radiation parameterization with a very significant reduction in computational cost (at least 95%).

Shape analysis is a fundamental problem in image processing field. In shape analysis, circles and ellipses are two important features since they often occur in the image. Hough transform (HT) is the most well-known deterministic algorithm. For detecting a shape with n parameters, the HT first maps each edge pixel in the image to a n-dimensional (n-D) parameter space, and then it detects that shape on this n-D parameter space. For circle, $n=3$; for ellipse, n=5. However, it equires a large amount of memory for maintaining the related n-D accumulator array. In order to reduce the memory and computing time requirement of the HT, many efficient deterministic algorithms have been proposed. Although different degrees of computational speedup are achieved, however, the computing load and the memory requirement are still some considerable. To overcome the disadvantage of the HT--based deterministic algorithms, the randomized HT (RHT) approach was proposed. Each time, the RHT selects three edge pixels randomly and then their corresponding mapped points in the parameter space are collected by voting on the accumulator array or the link-list data structure. Later, based on the parameter--free approach, a non-HT based randomized algorithm, called the randomized circle-detection (RCD) algorithm, was presented. Instead of using the accumulator array as in RHT, only several variables are needed in the RCD algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the RCD algorithm is faster than the RHT for the noise level between the light level and the modest level. In this thesis, we first present a new lookup table (LUT) based voting scheme for circle-detection. Combining our proposed LUT--based voting scheme and the existing sampling method in the RCD, we further present an efficient LUT--based randomized circle-detection (LUTRCD) algorithm. Further, extending the LUT-based circle-detection, this thesis also presents a LUT-ased randomized ellipse-detection (LUTRED) algorithm. Experimental results reveal that our proposed LUTRCD and LUTRED algorithms have computational advantage and similar accuracy when compared to the previous algorithms.

In this thesis work we investigated light transport in scattering media from a spatio-temporal perspective. To this purpose, we have designed and developed an experimental optical-gating setup and a new Monte Carlo software library focused on the measurement and simulation of spatio-temporal evolution of light transport down to a sub-picosecond resolution. The unique properties of both these tools allowed us to unveil an array of unexplored aspects of light propagation occurring in the extremely general plane-parallel slab geometry, which are of relevance both for application and fundamental purposes due to their asymptotic nature. Indeed, time-domain techniques are commonly considered to offer the most straightforward and powerful characterization capabilities, in that they allow to selectively address different transport regimes and directly observe their evolution. However, as we extensively demonstrate, combining the temporal information with wide-field spatial imaging capabilities offers a significant improvement, unveiling a set of irreducible information that could not be accessed from separate spatial and temporal characterizations.

Résumé :
This book explores musicalizations of Arthurian legend as filtered through specific tellings by Mark Twain, T. H. White, and Monty Python. For centuries, Arthurian legend with its tales of Camelot, romance, and chivalry has captured imaginations throughout Europe and the Americas. In the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, musical versions of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table have abounded in the United States, shaping the legend for American audiences through song. The ever-shifting, age-old tale of King Arthur and his world is one which thrives on adaptation for its survival. New generations tell the story in their own ways, updating or enhancing the relevance for a fresh audience. Taking a case-study approach, this work foregrounds the role of music in selected Arthurian adaptations, examining six stage and film musicals. It considers how musical versions in twentieth- and twenty-first-century popular culture interpret the legend of King Arthur, contending that music guides the audience to understand this well-known tale and its characters in new and unexpected ways. All of the productions considered include an overtly modern perspective on the legend, intruding and even commenting on the tale of King Arthur. Shifting from an idealistic utopia to a silly place, the myriad notions of Camelot offer a look at the importance of myth in American popular culture.

This chapter looks at the various biologic or target therapies that have been trialled and tested in the last two decades. The treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has progressed over the last few years due to an increased understanding of its pathogenesis; beginning with rituximab, one of the first biologics to be used, the chapter covers therapies up to the present day. Each subsection highlights the relevant mechanism of action which has led to new treatment options: anti-CD20 and 22, anti-B cell activating factors, anti-interferon alpha and anti-T cell activation. A summarized table is available providing a concise summary of the latest biologic therapies in treating SLE. The role of biologic therapies as monotherapy is still being defined, and with time there will be further change in the treatments available and the approach to the treatment of SLE using biologic therapies.

Résumé :
Big Night (1996), Ratatouille (2007), and Julie and Julia (2009) are more than films about food—they serve a political purpose. In the kitchen, around the table, and in the dining room, these films use cooking and eating to explore such themes as ideological pluralism, ethnic and racial acceptance, gender equality, and class flexibility—but not as progressively as you might think. Feasting Our Eyes takes a second look at these and other modern American food films to emphasize their conventional approaches to nation, gender, race, sexuality, and social status. Devoured visually and emotionally, these films are particularly effective defenders of the status quo. Feasting Our Eyes looks at Hollywood films and independent cinema, documentaries and docufictions, from the 1990s to today and frankly assesses their commitment to racial diversity, tolerance, and liberal political ideas. Laura Lindenfeld and Fabio Parasecoli find women and people of color continue to be treated as objects of consumption even in these modern works and, despite their progressive veneer, American food films often mask a conservative politics that makes commercial success more likely. A major force in mainstream entertainment, American food films shape our sense of who belongs, who has a voice, and who has opportunities in American society. They facilitate the virtual consumption of traditional notions of identity and citizenship, reworking and reinforcing ingrained ideas of power.

Résumé :
The division of the Genesis flood account is one of the most celebrated achievements of modern biblical criticism. This chapter takes a critical look at the source-critical paradigm and examines its hermeneutics. Historical-critical scholarship applies a series of double standards that all work in concert to support the source-critical aims and results. Moreover, it consistently suppresses evidence adduced from cognate materials—particularly from the Mesopotamian version of the flood story contained in Tablet XI of the Giglamesh epic—that threatens its validity by simply ignoring it, or otherwise negating the validity of that evidence through unwarranted means. Attention is given to the chiastic structure of the account, and to the parallel structure of the six days of creation and the drying of the earth after the flood. All in all, eight methodological flaws are detected in the source-critical approach to the story.

Résumé :
The Oxford Handbook of Ethics and Economics provides a timely and thorough survey of the various ways ethics can, does, and should inform economic theory and practice. The first part of the book, Foundations, explores how the most prominent schools of moral philosophy relate to economics; asks how morals relevant to economic behavior may have evolved; and explains how various approaches to economics incorporate ethics into their work. The second part, Applications, looks at the ethics of commerce, finance, and markets; uncovers the moral dilemmas involved with making decisions regarding social welfare, risk, and harm to others; and explores how ethics is relevant to major topics within economics, such as health care and the environment. A concluding chapter turns the table, recommending some lessons that ethics can learn from economics. With esteemed contributors from economics and philosophy, The Oxford Handbook of Ethics and Economics is designed to be a resource for scholars in both disciplines (and related fields such as political science, sociology, and psychology) as well as “consumers” of economics, such as policymakers, journalists, and laypersons. It highlights the close relationship between ethics and economics in the past while also laying a foundation for further integration going forward.

Résumé :
Abstract Dickens’s first concern in all his fiction is with people’s feelings and their imaginations. How does a person learn to enter vividly into the life he or she has been given, and into the lives of others? How does someone change, how do they love, give their trust, look forward to the future? These questions make their way into all of Dickens’s novels, including the four discussed in this contribution to the My Reading series: Oliver Twist (1837–39), David Copperfield (1849–50), Little Dorrit (1855–57), and A Tale of Two Cities (1859). Consistent with the aims of the series, Annette Federico takes a personal approach to Dickens’s art. A chronology of her life as a reader of Dickens runs parallel to her life as a daughter, a spouse, a teacher, a scholar—though she does not let that last role loom too largely. In a letter from January 1859, Dickens outlined his desired legacy: “I hope I have done my part to make the rising generation ‘more childish,’ in rendering them a little more imaginative, a little more gentle, and a little less conceited and hard, than they would have been without me. I desire to do nothing better.” To grow more childish is a reverse education, a pilgrimage away from mere intellectual knowingness toward another kind of knowledge. It is to see the world more believingly and imaginatively, with a little less guile, perhaps, and less reliance on other people’s opinions. This book also attempts that backward journey.

Résumé :
Multi-Relational Data Mining or MRDM is a growing research area focuses on discovering hidden patterns and useful knowledge from relational databases. While the vast majority of data mining algorithms and techniques look for patterns in a flat single-table data representation, the sub-domain of MRDM looks for patterns that involve multiple tables (relations) from a relational database. This sub-domain has received an increased research attention during the last two decades due to the wide range of possible applications. As a result of that growing attention, many successful multi-relational data mining algorithms and techniques were presented. This chapter presents a comprehensive review about multi-relational data mining. It discusses the different approaches researchers have followed to explore the relational search space while highlighting some of the most significant challenges facing researchers working in this sub-domain. The chapter also describes number of MRDM systems that have been developed during the last few years and discusses some future research directions in this sub-domain.

This chapter looks at US deliberations about the Chinese nuclear program in both the John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson administrations. It shows that Kennedy and Johnson had significantly different approaches to the Chinese nuclear program; their divergent beliefs led to divergent behaviors. Whereas Kennedy was distressed about the dangers from nuclear proliferation—and specifically frightened by the threat of a nuclear “Red Chinese menace”—Johnson was far less concerned about the Chinese nuclear danger. The chapter begins by presenting the alternative explanations and their expectations for the China case. It then discusses the history of the Chinese nuclear program and early US reactions to it. The chapter then shifts to review Kennedy's key beliefs concerning nuclear proliferation, deterrence, and threats in the international arena and his threat assessment of the Chinese communists. It compares and contrasts Kennedy and Johnson's beliefs and connects them to their divergent policy preferences.

The chapter is devoted to the DTC and DTC-SVM position control approaches of induction motor (IM) allowing the movement of a photovoltaic panel according to the maximum sunshine position to extract a high efficiency of the system. The DTC is selected to full the application requirements, especially a maximum torque at standstill. This feature is necessary in order to guarantee a high degree of robustness of the maximum sunshine position tracking system against the high and sudden load torque variations characterized by the gusts of wind. The first step is devoted to a comparison study between three DTC strategies, dedicated to position control, such that: the basic DTC strategy, the DTC strategy with a look-up table including only active voltage vectors, and the DTC-SVM strategy with hysteresis controllers. Furthermore, the synthesis and the implementation of DTC-SVM approaches based on position control are treated. Within this context, the final part of the chapter proposes a comparison between three DTC-SVM approaches: (i) a DTC-SVM approach using PI controllers, (ii) a DTC-SVM approach using PI controllers with a nonlinear compensator, and (iii) a DTC-SVM approach using sliding mode controllers. In that case, an adaptation approach of parameter estimators are implemented in order to eliminate the effects of parameter variations and load disturbances. Simulations results show that the SM DTC-SVM approach gives the best results.

Résumé :
Much recent work on building scalable peer-to-peer (P2P) systems has focused on distributed hash tables (DHTs), which have become in a powerful building block when designing distributed decentralized behaviors. However, the lookup in the DHT structure itself, rather than the key-based lookup in the data stored in the DHT introduces a series of new challenges. The purpose of this chapter is to review the most outstanding research efforts, many of them from the Grid community, addressing the problem of resource discovery on DHTs. First, the authors present a simple taxonomy and the key internal design and behavior of each contribution, identifying their main strengths and weaknesses. Later, some discussion will be presented and finally, the authors’ personal approach to the problem will be described and compared with previous ones.

Résumé :
The aim of this work is to present an efficient methodology to deal with general 3D-contact problems. This approach embraces three steps: geometrical definition of 3D-surfaces; detection of the candidate contact points; evaluation of the contact forces. The 3D-contact surfaces are generated and represented by using parametric functions due to their simplicity and easiness to handle freeform shapes. This task is carried in preprocessing, performed preliminarily to the implementation of the multibody code. The preprocessing procedure can be condensed into four steps: a regular and representative surface collection of points is extracted from the 3D-parametric surface; for each point the tangent vectors to the u and v directions of the parametric surface and the normal vector are computed; the geometrical information on each point is saved in a lookup table, including the parametric point coordinates, the corresponding Cartesian coordinates and the Cartesian components of the normal, tangent and binormal vectors; the lookup table is rearranged such that the u-v mapping is converted into a 3D-matrix form. In the last step, the surface data is saved as a direct access file. Regarding the detection of the contact points, the relative distance between the candidate contact points are computed and used to check if the bodies are in contact. The actual contact points are selected as those that correspond to the maximum relative indentation. The contact forces are determined as functions of the indentation, impact velocity and geometric and material properties of the contacting surfaces. In general, lookup tables are used to reduce the computation time in dynamic simulations. However, the application of these schemes involves an increase of memory needs. Within the proposed approach, the amount of memory used is significantly reduced, as a result of a partial upload into memory of the lookup table. A slider-crank mechanism with a cup on the top of the slider and a marble ball is used as demonstrative example. A contact pair is considered between a cup and a marble ball, being the contact forces computed using a dissipative contact model.

Résumé :
Computation in the residue number system allows complex operations to be separated into less complex, carry-free operations that can be processed in parallel. The use of lookup tables is one approach to performing computation in the residue number system. However, the spatial complexity of traditional lookup tables grows quadratically with the modulus and hence the dynamic range. In this paper, we present the results of an effort to build a low-complexity optical processor for performing computations in the residue number system by using outer-product lookup tables. The processor can implement arbitrary integer-valued operations by applying the correct m2-to-m mapping from the lookup table to the output. Complexity and power requirements are shown to grow slowly in comparison to traditional residue lookup tables.

Résumé :
We present an optical digital processor system containing an array of processing elements. Each processing element is capable of executing arithmetic, logic and interconnect operations. To provide fast execution speed, we use the lookup-table approach. Results of operations are precalculated and stored in truth tables. To record a set of lookup-tables, a modified dual-rail spatial encoding method is used. The truth-tables are recorded in a novel holographic content-addressable memory. To implement a large number of processing elements, a spatially multiplexed hologram was used.

Résumé :
The objectives of this project were to develop nondestructive methods for detection of internal properties and firmness of fruits and vegetables. One method was based on a soft piezoelectric film transducer developed in the Technion, for analysis of fruit response to low-energy excitation. The second method was a dot-matrix piezoelectric transducer of North Carolina State University, developed for contact-pressure analysis of fruit during impact. Two research teams, one in Israel and the other in North Carolina, coordinated their research effort according to the specific objectives of the project, to develop and apply the two complementary methods for quality control of agricultural commodities. In Israel: An improved firmness testing system was developed and tested with tropical fruits. The new system included an instrumented fruit-bed of three flexible piezoelectric sensors and miniature electromagnetic hammers, which served as fruit support and low-energy excitation device, respectively. Resonant frequencies were detected for determination of firmness index. Two new acoustic parameters were developed for evaluation of fruit firmness and maturity: a dumping-ratio and a centeroid of the frequency response. Experiments were performed with avocado and mango fruits. The internal damping ratio, which may indicate fruit ripeness, increased monotonically with time, while resonant frequencies and firmness indices decreased with time. Fruit samples were tested daily by destructive penetration test. A fairy high correlation was found in tropical fruits between the penetration force and the new acoustic parameters; a lower correlation was found between this parameter and the conventional firmness index. Improved table-top firmness testing units, Firmalon, with data-logging system and on-line data analysis capacity have been built. The new device was used for the full-scale experiments in the next two years, ahead of the original program and BARD timetable. Close cooperation was initiated with local industry for development of both off-line and on-line sorting and quality control of more agricultural commodities. Firmalon units were produced and operated in major packaging houses in Israel, Belgium and Washington State, on mango and avocado, apples, pears, tomatoes, melons and some other fruits, to gain field experience with the new method. The accumulated experimental data from all these activities is still analyzed, to improve firmness sorting criteria and shelf-life predicting curves for the different fruits. The test program in commercial CA storage facilities in Washington State included seven apple varieties: Fuji, Braeburn, Gala, Granny Smith, Jonagold, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and D'Anjou pear variety. FI master-curves could be developed for the Braeburn, Gala, Granny Smith and Jonagold apples. These fruits showed a steady ripening process during the test period. Yet, more work should be conducted to reduce scattering of the data and to determine the confidence limits of the method. Nearly constant FI in Red Delicious and the fluctuations of FI in the Fuji apples should be re-examined. Three sets of experiment were performed with Flandria tomatoes. Despite the complex structure of the tomatoes, the acoustic method could be used for firmness evaluation and to follow the ripening evolution with time. Close agreement was achieved between the auction expert evaluation and that of the nondestructive acoustic test, where firmness index of 4.0 and more indicated grade-A tomatoes. More work is performed to refine the sorting algorithm and to develop a general ripening scale for automatic grading of tomatoes for the fresh fruit market. Galia melons were tested in Israel, in simulated export conditions. It was concluded that the Firmalon is capable of detecting the ripening of melons nondestructively, and sorted out the defective fruits from the export shipment. The cooperation with local industry resulted in development of automatic on-line prototype of the acoustic sensor, that may be incorporated with the export quality control system for melons. More interesting is the development of the remote firmness sensing method for sealed CA cool-rooms, where most of the full-year fruit yield in stored for off-season consumption. Hundreds of ripening monitor systems have been installed in major fruit storage facilities, and being evaluated now by the consumers. If successful, the new method may cause a major change in long-term fruit storage technology. More uses of the acoustic test method have been considered, for monitoring fruit maturity and harvest time, testing fruit samples or each individual fruit when entering the storage facilities, packaging house and auction, and in the supermarket. This approach may result in a full line of equipment for nondestructive quality control of fruits and vegetables, from the orchard or the greenhouse, through the entire sorting, grading and storage process, up to the consumer table. The developed technology offers a tool to determine the maturity of the fruits nondestructively by monitoring their acoustic response to mechanical impulse on the tree. A special device was built and preliminary tested in mango fruit. More development is needed to develop a portable, hand operated sensing method for this purpose. In North Carolina: Analysis method based on an Auto-Regressive (AR) model was developed for detecting the first resonance of fruit from their response to mechanical impulse. The algorithm included a routine that detects the first resonant frequency from as many sensors as possible. Experiments on Red Delicious apples were performed and their firmness was determined. The AR method allowed the detection of the first resonance. The method could be fast enough to be utilized in a real time sorting machine. Yet, further study is needed to look for improvement of the search algorithm of the methods. An impact contact-pressure measurement system and Neural Network (NN) identification method were developed to investigate the relationships between surface pressure distributions on selected fruits and their respective internal textural qualities. A piezoelectric dot-matrix pressure transducer was developed for the purpose of acquiring time-sampled pressure profiles during impact. The acquired data was transferred into a personal computer and accurate visualization of animated data were presented. Preliminary test with 10 apples has been performed. Measurement were made by the contact-pressure transducer in two different positions. Complementary measurements were made on the same apples by using the Firmalon and Magness Taylor (MT) testers. Three-layer neural network was designed. 2/3 of the contact-pressure data were used as training input data and corresponding MT data as training target data. The remaining data were used as NN checking data. Six samples randomly chosen from the ten measured samples and their corresponding Firmalon values were used as the NN training and target data, respectively. The remaining four samples' data were input to the NN. The NN results consistent with the Firmness Tester values. So, if more training data would be obtained, the output should be more accurate. In addition, the Firmness Tester values do not consistent with MT firmness tester values. The NN method developed in this study appears to be a useful tool to emulate the MT Firmness test results without destroying the apple samples. To get more accurate estimation of MT firmness a much larger training data set is required. When the larger sensitive area of the pressure sensor being developed in this project becomes available, the entire contact 'shape' will provide additional information and the neural network results would be more accurate. It has been shown that the impact information can be utilized in the determination of internal quality factors of fruit. Until now,
