Résumé :
Abstract: The fundamental goal of this postulation is to introduce various models for single also as numerous inquiry handling in the Distributed data set framework which brings about less question handling cost. One of the significant issues in the plan and execution of Distributed Information Base Management Systems (DDBMS) is productive inquiry handling. The objective of dispersed inquiry improvement decreases to minimization of measure of information to be communicated among destinations for handling a given inquiry. The issue of question handling in DDBS (1 1) has been concentrated broadly in writing. In the greater part of calculations, the capability of the question will contain a grouping of tasks. In such cases, while executing tasks from right to left, as per the request for tasks in arrangement, the aftereffect of an activity might be an operand to the next activity. Since the tasks are subject to each other, at a moment in particular one activity at one site will be executed despite the fact that the climate is dispersed. Then frameworks at any remaining locales will be inactive for this inquiry. Another model, Totally Reducible Relation Model (CRK Medel), which permits parallelism and processes numerous tasks all the while at all important locales is introduced. It is expected that the tasks are in the type of conjunctions. So every activity can be handled freely. In this model at some moment, relations at every single significant site will be totally diminished by relating sets of every appropriate activity (Determinations, Semijoins and Joins) all the while. Thus, every connection will be checked just a single time to deal with all appropriate tasks by decreasing VO cost.

Résumé :
Background: Lupus nephritis (LN) is a common and severe organ involvement manifesting itself in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). There is a considerable difference in prevalence, severity, treatment response and outcomes between Asian LN patients and LN patients from other racial backgrounds. Summary: Asian SLE patients have a higher prevalence of LN than Caucasian SLE patients and often present with a more severe disease. Increasing data from genetic studies, accompanied by progress in high-throughput genotyping, have advanced our knowledge about genetic predispositions that might partly contribute to the clinical variations observed. Corticosteroids combined with either cyclophosphamide (CYC) or mycophenolic acid (MPA) is the current standard-of-care induction regimen for severe LN irrespective of race or ethnicity. However, the preference for MPA or CYC, and possibly the optimum dose for MPA, is influenced by the patient's origin. Also, there is an insufficient evidence base for reduced-dose intravenous CYC in Asian patients. Health economics and access to prompt diagnosis and treatment are still challenging issues in some Asian regions. The former represents a significant obstacle limiting the access of patients to MPA despite the proven efficacy of the drug as an induction agent and its superiority over azathioprine (AZA) in preventing disease flares when used for long-term maintenance immunosuppression. Calcineurin inhibitors such as tacrolimus deserve further investigation in view of their additional effect on podocytes by reducing proteinuria and the promising data from Asian patients. Despite considerable advances in the clinical management of LN over the past few decades with resultant improvements in patients' outcomes, there are still knowledge gaps and unmet clinical needs. Asia has made substantial contributions to the evidence base that guides clinical management and continues to offer invaluable opportunities for research pursuits. Key Messages: Treatment responses and clinical outcomes in Asian patients with LN compare favorably with patients from other parts of the world. The prevention and treatment of infective complications remain significant challenges in managing LN in Asia. Facts from East and West: (1) The prevalence of SLE is lower among Caucasians than other ethnicities. A higher prevalence is observed among Asians and African Americans, while the highest prevalence is found in Caribbean people. The prevalence of LN in Asian SLE patients is much higher than in Caucasians as well. However, the 10-year renal outcome and renal survival rate appear to be better in Asians. (2) Polymorphisms of genes involved in the immune response, such as Fcγ receptor, integrin alpha M, TNF superfamily 4, myotubularin-related protein 3 and many others, might be partly responsible for the differences in prevalence between the different ethnic groups. European ancestry was shown to be associated with a decrease in the risk of LN even after adjustment for genes most associated with renal disease. (3) Access to health care is a key determinant of disease progression, treatment outcome and the management of complications such as infections, particularly in South Asia, and might also explain disparities between clinical outcomes. (4) The efficacy of low-dose CYC combined with corticosteroids for induction treatment of LN was proved in European Caucasian patients. This treatment is also used in Asia, although no formal evaluation of efficacy and safety in comparison with other treatment regimens exists in this population. The efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is similar to that of CYC, and similar between Asians and Caucasians. MMF may be more effective than CYC in inducing response in high-risk populations such as African American or Hispanic patients. MMF might cause less infection-related events in Asians, but its high cost prevents broader usage at present. (5) For maintenance therapy, corticosteroid combined with AZA or MMF is used worldwide, with a broadly similar efficacy of both treatments, although there are data suggesting that in high-risk populations (e.g. African Americans) MMF may be more effective in preventing renal flares. AZA is often preferred in Asia due to economic constraints and because of its safety in pregnancy. (6) Alternative therapies under investigation include rituximab, which might be more efficient in Caucasians, as well as belimumab. Recent Japanese and Chinese studies have indicated a potential benefit of tacrolimus as a substitute for or in addition to CYC or MMF (dual or triple immunosuppression). Mizoribine is used in Japan exclusively.

Résumé :
General capabilities of data base management technology are described. Information requirements posed by the space station life cycle are discussed, and it is asserted that data base management technology supporting engineering/manufacturing in a heterogeneous hardware/data base management system environment should be applied to meeting these requirements. Today’s commercial systems do not satisfy all of these requirements. The features of an R&D data base management system being developed to investigate data base management in the engineering/manufacturing environment are discussed. Features of this system represent only a partial solution to space station requirements. Areas where this system should be extended to meet full space station information management requirements are discussed.

Résumé :
A good lighting environment for roads at night is essential for traffic safety. Accurate and timely knowledge of road lighting quality is meaningful for the planning and management of urban road lighting systems. Traditional field observations and mobile observations have limitations for road lightning quality evaluation at a large scale. This study explored the potential of 0.92 m resolution JL1-3B nighttime light remote sensing images to evaluate road lighting quality in Nanjing, China. Combined with synchronous field measurements and JL1-3B data, multiple regression and random forest regression with several independent variable combinations were developed and compared to determine the optimal model for surface illuminance estimation. Cross validation results showed that the random forest model with Hue, saturability, ln(Intensity), ln(Red), ln(Green) and ln(Blue) as the input independent variables had the best performance (R2 = 0.75 and RMSE = 9.79 lux). Then, this model was used to map the surface illuminance. The spatial scopes of roads were extracted from Google Earth images, and the illuminance within roads was derived to calculate the average, standard deviation and coefficient of variation to indicate the overall brightness level and brightness uniformity of the roads. This study provides a quantitative and effective reference for road lighting evaluation.

Résumé :
Many AI and other applications populate their knowledge-bases with information retrieved from large, shared databases. This paper describes a new approach to maintaining consistency between objects in dynamic, shared databases and copies of those objects which are cached in an application knowledge-base. The approach relies on an intelligent interface to active databases that we call a Mediator for Approximate Consistency (MAC). The MAC has several unique features: (1) it permits applications to specify their consistency requirements declaratively, using a simple extension of a frame-based representation language, (2) it automatically generates the interfaces and database objects necessary to enforce those consistency requirements, shielding the knowledge-base developer from the implementation details of consistency maintenance, and (3) it provides an explicit representation of consistency constraints in the database, which allows them to be queried and reasoned about. The paper describes the knowledge-base/database consistency problem and previous approaches to dealing with it. It then describes our architecture for maintaining approximate knowledge-base/database consistency, including techniques for specifying, representing, and enforcing consistency constraints.

Résumé :
Data from current research dealing with Jurassic ammonoids and stratigraphy of western North America are being stored in a computer file called AMMON using a data base management system. Each ammonite is described by up to 94 descriptors divided into the following six categories: taxonomy, quantitative morphology, qualitative morphology, stratigraphy, locality-catalogue information and general remarks. Data entry is facilitated by the use of a template on a video display terminal, the use of code numbers instead of full names and the bulk entry of hierarchic data. The computer can be used to speed fossil identification and retrieve geologic data by matching lists of descriptor states for a given specimen against those stored in the data bank. By interfacing with statistical analytical systems a ‘profile’ of a given taxon can be generated showing ranges of morphologic variation for any stage of ontogeny. Multivariate techniques are readily employed and subtle patterns of covariation more easily assessed. The data base may also be questioned to instantly generate taxonomic lists by zone, geographic area, lithostratigraphic unit, etc. (or any combination thereof) so that its research potential is considerable.AMMON is a prototype meant to serve as a basis for discussion in developing a globally acceptable ammonoid data base. If code numbers for taxonomic, morphologic and stratigraphic data are standardized, information can be exchanged internationally using magnetic tapes and then decoded by the computer into any language. As data bases proliferate, they will inevitably make paleontological information more readily accessible to the specialist and non-specialist alike.

Résumé :
Purpose Current staging systems for oral cavity cancers incorporate lymph node (LN) size and laterality, but place less weight on the total number of positive metastatic nodes. We investigated the independent impact of numerical metastatic LN burden on survival. Methods Adult patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma undergoing upfront surgical resection for curative intent were identified in the National Cancer Data Base between 2004 and 2013. A neck dissection of a minimum of 10 LNs was required. Multivariable models were constructed to assess the association between the number of metastatic LNs and survival, adjusting for factors such as nodal size, laterality, extranodal extension, margin status, and adjuvant treatment. Results Overall, 14,554 patients met inclusion criteria (7,906 N0 patients; 6,648 node-positive patients). Mortality risk escalated continuously with increasing number of metastatic nodes without plateau, with the effect most pronounced with up to four LNs (HR, 1.34; 95% CI, 1.29 to 1.39; P < .001). Extranodal extension (HR, 1.41; 95% CI, 1.20 to 1.65; P < .001) and lower neck involvement (HR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.06 to 1.27; P < .001) also predicted increased mortality. Increasing number of nodes examined was associated with improved survival, plateauing at 35 LNs (HR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.98 to 0.99; P < .001). In multivariable models accounting for the number of metastatic nodes, contralateral LN involvement (N2c status) and LN size were not associated with mortality. A novel nodal staging system derived by recursive partitioning analysis exhibited greater concordance than the American Joint Committee on Cancer (8th edition) system. Conclusion The number of metastatic nodes is a critical predictor of oral cavity cancer mortality, eclipsing other features such as LN size and contralaterality in prognostic value. More robust incorporation of numerical metastatic LN burden may augment staging and better inform adjuvant treatment decisions.

AbstractSystems medicine is a data-oriented approach in research and clinical practice to support study and treatment of complex diseases. It relies on well-defined information management processes providing comprehensive and up to date information as basis for electronic decision support. The authors suggest a three-layer information technology (IT) architecture for systems medicine and a cyclic data management approach including a knowledge base that is dynamically updated by extract, transform, and load (ETL) procedures. Decision support is suggested as case-based and rule-based components. Results are presented via a user interface to acknowledging clinical requirements in terms of time and complexity. The systems medicine application was implemented as a prototype.

The software allows entrepreneurs and corporate managers as well as entities from the SME sector on the one hand to use embedded patterns of reports or analyzes, and on the other hand to self-develop and configure analyzes carried out, tailored to the specifics of a specific entity. Such analytical applications make it possible to build integrated risk management systems in the organization.

Résumé :
Quality management has evolved throughout time in ways that allowed companies to adapt quality practices and principles into their activities in order to provide better products/services to their customer. The latest trends point to the pivotal role that quality plays in the Industry 4.0 era, where it is expected to synergize with Industry 4.0 practices in order to ensure that not only products are built faster and cheaper but also that they can meet the quality expectations of the customers. This gave birth to the concept of Quality 4.0, a new way of managing quality which uses modern technologies such as: IoT, Blockchain, Big data, AI and sensors in order to gather relevant information, monitor process performance and act preemptively in regard to the quality of the process output. An issue that emerges however, is identifying the relevant data and ways to manage it as this is considered to be a major obstacle in the implementation of Quality 4.0 practices. The research focuses on providing the foundational base for Knowledge management practices of companies looking to embrace Quality 4.0 to ensure that these companies use relevant data in their daily activities.

Résumé :
Abstract:Knowledge-base design requires a thorough analysis of the concepts to be represented. If the analysis is incomplete or inaccurate, the resulting knowledge base may contain arbitrary restrictions, inconsistent data, or limitations that make future extensions impossible. Conceptual analysis is even more critical for sharing knowledge bases between heterogeneous systems. Analyses that are adequate for independent systems may cause incompatibilities when the systems share data. This paper discusses the kinds of problems that require a careful conceptual analysis and the difficulties caused by an incorrect or incomplete analysis. It also shows how independently developed knowledge bases can be related to one another by reanalyzing and redefining the basic concepts and relations. Such analysis is essential for sharing knowledge between systems developed for different purposes, such as relational and object-oriented databases or expert systems and natural language processors.

Résumé :
The process of selecting road maintenance technologies for the Pavement Management System (PMS) can use road pavement moduli of deformation as the substantiating information. Assessment criteria based on either pavement or base course moduli of deformation have strong empirical underpinning, since the stiff plate bearing testing (SPBT) is commonly used worldwide. This paper discusses potential practical applications of plate bearing test numerical simulation based on Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) deflection data, and theoretical model based on flexible pavement. It was proven that including a pavement model with stress dependency, the simulated second load-displacement curves meet reliably plate bearing in-situ test conditions for different layers of either subgrade or base courses of road pavement. This methodology is feasible by classifying technical condition of each lower layer of road pavement against requirements towards new pavements.

Résumé :
This study empirically examines the relation between supplier-base concentration and inventory efficiency in the Chinese manufacturing sector. Using hand-collected data from annual reports during 2007–2015, the authors find that manufacturers with a more concentrated supplier base hold fewer inventories, and the efficiency primarily flows through the raw materials and work-in-process inventory accounts. The authors find that small firms benefit more from a concentrated supplier base in inventory efficiency than large firms do. The authors also find that the positive effect of supplier-base concentration on inventory efficiency is stronger as customer-base concentration increases. In an additional analysis, the authors find that firms with a high supplier-base concentration would have better current and future financial performance.

Résumé :
The power management of ICT systems, that is, data processing (Dp) and telecommunication (Tlc) systems, is becoming a relevant problem in economical terms. Dp systems totalize millions of servers and associated subsystems (processors, monitors, storage devices, etc.) all over the world that need to be electrically powered. Dp systems are also used in the government of Tlc systems, which, besides requiring Dp electrical power, also requireTlc-specificpower, both formobilenetworks (with their cell-phone towers and associated subsystems: base stations, subscriber stations, switching nodes, etc.) and forwirednetworks (with their routers, gateways, switches, etc.). ICT research is thus expected to investigate into methods to reduce Dp- and Tlc-specific power consumption. However, saving power may turn into waste of performance, in other words, into waste of ICT quality of service (QoS). This paper investigates the Dp and Tlc power management policies that look at compromises between power saving and QoS.

Résumé :
AbstractKnowledge base management systems (KBMS) are designed to efficiently retrieve and manipulate large shared knowledge bases. A significant subclass of KBMS consisting of a combination of logic programming and database is often called a logic oriented knowledge base system (LOKBS). These systems must possess considerable processing and I/O capabilities so many approaches have been taken to the improvement of their performance. In this paper we review the current performance enhancing hardware approaches for LOKBS. We include parallelism, both in processing and I/O, algorithms, caching, and physical data organizations.

Résumé :
In 21st century, collaborative business supply chain environments are required to be proactive rather than reactive so that they can better deal with the uncertainty, growing competition, shorter cycle times, more demanding customers and pressure to cut costs. Demand chain management as a new business model requires investing in consumer insights and closer relationships in the supply chain to conduct predictive analysis of retail intelligent solutions. In this regard new kinds of methodologies are required to be discussed. However, at the execution level the limitations in terms of scalability, data integration and knowledge based decision support to providers or suppliers in terms of strategy building and in providing deductive inference capabilities are to be addressed. Therefore, it is required to describe how predictive analytics helps in constructing the knowledge base to conduct verification and validation in terms of semantic predictive analytic for the domain of demand chain management.
