Résumé :
This research delves into the interplay between three pivotal literacies in the digital age–information literacy, data literacy, and privacy literacy—and the receptivity towards the adoption of emerging technology within communities, with a specific focus on the chatbot ChatGPT. Data was gathered through online surveys conducted among adults residing in a four-county region in northern Texas during a two-week period in late 2022, yielding 130 valid responses. The results of regression analysis indicate a positive association between the inclination to utilize ChatGPT for enhancing one's community and proficiency in information literacy and privacy literacy. However, an unexpected observation emerges as data literacy skills do not exhibit a significant relationship with this inclination, despite ChatGPT's standing as a data science innovation. Moreover, age, gender, educational attainment, and internet usage patterns are identified as influential factors in these associations. These findings hold substantial importance in comprehending the intricate dynamics of how diverse literacies and individual and community-related variables mutually shape each other's development.

Résumé :
The research aims to explore the associations between the determinants of financial literacy among the young population of Haryana, India. The research methodology included collecting data from 117 respondents through a well-structured questionnaire and investigating the associations using Chi-square criteria. The results of this research show a strong association between the determinants of financial literacy (financial knowledge, financial attitude, and financial behaviour). Among the research limitations are the relatively small sample size and inclusion of only the rural population of Haryana. This research will help researchers, policymakers and governments to focus on financial knowledge, financial attitude and financial behaviour as determinants for strengthening financial literacy.

Résumé :
Post-secondary students bring with them unique skills and knowledge which may affect their learning. Information literacy (IL) is a set of abilities which permits the discovery of information as well as using this information to create new knowledge (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2016). While IL abilities are heralded as important, it is difficult to find a simple measure of information literacy, especially since its conceptualization as a framework (Association of College and Research Libraries, 2016). In this paper, we propose a new online measure of information literacy—Your Information Literacy Practices (YILP)—which aligns with the new framework. We compare it to another published measure of IL and student resourcefulness. Implications and recommendations for its use are discussed.

Résumé :
6573 Background: Cancer patients are at a higher risk of financial burden compared to those with other chronic illnesses and those without cancer. Additionally, cancer patients with low health literacy are at risk for poor health outcomes and poor self-management. Aside from factors such as education and insurance, there is limited information on the role of modifiable factors in predicting financial burden and health literacy. The aim of this study was to identify risk factors associated with financial burden and health literacy among cancer patients. Methods: Participants were 2,260 adult, English- or Spanish-speaking patients who were recruited from an NCI-designated cancer center in the Chicagoland area as part of a trial on symptom management. Participants completed measures on depressive symptoms and anxiety using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS). Financial burden was assessed using a Comprehensive Score for Financial Toxicity (COST FACIT) item (FT12) and health literacy was assessed by the Single Item Literacy Screener (SILS). Additional information on insurance and cancer diagnosis were extracted from medical records. The area deprivation index (ADI) was calculated using national percentile rankings for the patient’s block group. All patient-reported outcomes were assessed at study baseline. Cross-sectional logistic regression models were fit with the FT12 item [dichotomized as high (somewhat/quite a bit/very much) vs. low (not at all/a little bit) financial burden] and SILS [dichotomized as high (quite a bit/extremely) vs. low (not at all/a little bit/somewhat) health literacy] as separate outcomes. The primary covariates of interest were anxiety and depressive symptoms T-scores (dichotomized reflect normal limits vs. elevated distress). Analyses were adjusted for socio-demographic and clinical characteristics. Results: After adjusting for covariates, significant associations of greater financial burden were PROMIS depression [odds ratio (OR): 1.63 (95% CI: 1.22-2.19)] and PROMIS anxiety (OR: 1.60; 95% CI: 1.22-2.10). In addition, higher ADI score, lower education, unemployment, and low health literacy were significantly associated with greater financial burden. PROMIS depression (OR: 2.15; 95% CI: 1.38-3.40) was associated with low heath literacy, along with disability/leave of absence, Medicare/Medicaid/uninsured and lower education. Conclusions: Modifiable factors are associated with financial burden and health literacy. These results support the systematic screening for financial burden and health literacy in addition emotional well-being. Interventions targeting the modifiable factors elucidated in this study may further efforts to provide quality and equitable comprehensive cancer care. Future work should evaluate the potential causal pathways between depression, health literacy, and financial burden.

In this article, Catherine Snow, Twakia Martin, and Ilene Berman describe professional development institutes offered in 2001 and 2002 by the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices to familiarize state-level policymakers with research on adolescent literacy and to guide states' development of effective literacy plans. The authors then review the literacy plans that four of the participating states developed in the years following their institute involvement and discuss ways in which the content of the literacy institutes is reflected in these states' plans. In conclusion, the authors call on higher education institutions to help state policymakers develop and evaluate initiatives intended to increase adolescents' reading skills. They also call for broader cross-state comparisons of states' strategies for improving adolescent literacy.

This qualitative study uses narrative inquiry (Connelly & Clandinin, 1988, 1990, 2001) and self-study to investigate ways to further understand and facilitate the integration of holistic philosophies of education with media literacy pedagogies. As founder and director of the Youth Media Literacy Project and a self-titled Imagitator (one who agitates imagination), I have spent over 10 years teaching media literacy in various high schools, universities, and community centres across North America. This study will focus on my own personal practical knowledge (Connelly & Clandinin, 1982) as a culture jammer, educator and cancer survivor to illustrate my original vision of a ‘holistic media literacy pedagogy’. This research reflects on the emergence and impact of holistic media literacy in my personal and professional life and also draws from relevant interdisciplinary literature to challenge and synthesize current insights and theories of media literacy, holistic education and culture jamming.

AbstractThis research aims to determine the effect of investment capital and stock returns on investment interest in the millennial generation in the capital market. This research is associative research with a quantitative descriptive approach. This research was conducted in the city of Medan with a sample of 96 people. The model used in this study was multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that investment capital affects investment interest. In addition, stock returns also affect investment interest. This study indicates that the more advanced the development of technology, the better the millennial generation understands financial literacy. As the millennial generation has investment knowledge, it will increase their interest in investing in the capital market. The increase in capital market investors is evidenced by the increasing public interest in investing in stocks.

Résumé :
AbstractThe performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has a vital role in the economy in Indonesia. Reaching 99.9% of the total businesses in Indonesia, MSMEs contribute significantly to job creation and employment. However, they still face many problems, especially capital problems, which are indicated by the low level of financial literacy and financial inclusion of MSME actors in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the effect and relationship of financial literacy and financial inclusion either partially or simultaneously on the performance of MSMEs in Indonesia. The population in this study was 517 MSMEs that were assisted by SME & IKM DPW of North Sumatra Province spread over 33 Regencies & Cities in North Sumatra. This study type is quantitative research using an associative approach and using PLS (Partial Least Square) analysis tools. The impact show that financial literacy and financial inclusion partially and simultaneously significantly affect the performance of MSMEs. Furthermore, skills and knowledge are the two most significant financial literacy indicators. Meanwhile, connection and quality are financial inclusion indicators with the most significant effect. Thus, it can be concluded that MSMEs performance in Indonesia can continuously be improved by increasing financial literacy and financial inclusion efforts. The government and relevant stakeholders need to continue developing, adjusting, and ensuring that the current and future programs and policies can be implemented well to address various problems most MSMEs face.

The present chapter analyses the information literacy of the faculty members and also the relationship between information literacy and growth of literature. The survey was conducted among the faculty members of both Engineering and Arts & Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu. The study revealed that the majority of the faculty members have information literacy at average level. Academic productivity is more among the members of the faculty of Arts and Science Colleges than Engineering Colleges. Academic productivity shows information literacy significantly contributes to the growth of literature in their respective field. The comparison of information literacy among the faculty members shows that they differ significantly on information literacy based on age, type of college and familiarity of computer; and do not differ significantly based on gender, locality, experience, discipline and familiarity of internet.

Résumé :
Abstract What Knowledge Is Needed to allow the ideas in Science for All Americans (American Association for the Advancement of Science [AAAS], 1989) to become common practice? What kinds of research are needed to ensure informed decision making that will lead to the kind of science literacy for all envisioned by Project 2061 and other science reform efforts? These are .critical questions for a research agenda. The definition of science literacy in Science for All Americans and Benchmarks for Science Literacy (AAAS, 1993) is not limited to the natural sciences; mathematics, technology, and the social sciences are also included. Adding to the complexity of a broad definition of science literacy is the deeper understanding of curriculum that has developed during the last two decades. Correspondingly, educational research has also become far more complex. Together, these factors all contribute to the challenge of developing a blueprint for needed research.

COVID-19 impacted in person learning, particularly for the health sciences. Nursing students learn valuable clinical skills in simulation labs on campus. When one university campus stopped in person instruction during the 2020 spring semester, two librarians worked together to identify resources to support a nursing course that quickly switched to remote learning. These resources ranged from library licensed content to free virtual reality simulations. In order to identify materials, the librarians first defined visual literacy within nursing, as well as met with various constituents to understand curriculum goals and needs. Making connections with both the faculty and the curriculum was the impetus for examining similarities between the Association of College and Research Libraries Visual Literacy Competency Standards and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Clinical Resources Essentials for Baccalaureate Nursing Education. Both librarians are eager to continue working on strategically and systematically incorporating visual literacy library instruction into the nursing curriculum.

This chapter describes how health is the most precious component for the happiness and all-round development of human being in the society. Alongside this, information is an important resource for individual growth and survival. Therefore, a Health Information System (HIS) is a system for collecting/processing of data from various sources, and using the information for policy-making and management of health services. This chapter discusses health literacy and its association with health information needs and health information literacy, the status of women in India and their influence in the well-being of the family, and the impact of HIS. This chapter also proves that with enough data obtained from the women of Kanyakumari District in India, the government's policy needs to be directed towards women for the success of its health-care programmes.

Résumé :
This chapter addresses the association between nurturing prosocial classroom behavior in young children, literacy, and income inequality. Literacy will be explored as it relates to social competence in the classroom as influenced by income inequity. One highlighted area of importance is a play-based, child-focused environment that is culturally sensitive and responsive to the needs of the whole child. Socioeconomic disparities in literacy skills have been increasing over the past 40 years. This subject must be addressed in order to effectively meet the cognitive, social, and emotional needs of each individual child. Literacy skills are developed during early childhood. It is also the case that limited literacy during early childhood increases the risk of children displaying aggressive behavior at school as they progress to higher grades. For these reasons, tackling the problem during the early years with developmentally appropriate adult-child interventions are what is needed to reverse the trends placing an increasing number of young children at-risk of academic underachievement.

Résumé :
According to the South African Constitution and Bill of Rights, with their emphasis on a culture of civil liberties and the democratic values of liberty, equality and human rights, the country’s education system should be inherently capable of meeting the diverse needs of every child and preventing the breakdown and exclusion of any learner. In reality, however, the South African education system fails to address the literacy needs of many South African children. National literacy surveys suggest that the country is ‘headed for a national education crisis’ (Bloch, 2009:12), because we ‘barely produce literate and numerate children’. Against this disturbing background, we need to gain an understanding of teachers’ practices and the quality of language and literacy input currently being offered in early childhood education in South Africa. While remaining constantly aware of the interplay of various intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect literacy development, two main objectives guided this research. Firstly, we aimed to investigate the quality of language and literacy stimulation programmes currently being offered at 195 randomly selected urban and rural preschool classes in the Free State province, South Africa (via the administration of the ECERS-R). Secondly, we conducted focus groups with 50 preschool teachers to explore the challenges they experience in creating classroom environments that are responsive to the literacy needs of South African preschoolers. Moreover, we attempted to identify and address the inequalities that still exist with regard to the literacy development of the vast number of South African learners who are still at risk of developing literacy and academic problems and consequently even now experience exclusion daily. Results from the literacy project have already made a significant contribution to the meagre corpus of empirically validated research in the literacy challenges facing South African children. With this article, we intend to stimulate debate on a topic of critical importance to the country’s education system.

In today’s world, where almost everything takes place in the virtual world, information and informatics, as well as financial literacy are becoming increasingly important. Although most of the university students are considered to be sufficiently information and informatics literate, the Covid-19 pandemic has confirmed how necessary it is to possess the skills and knowledge related to these literacies in order to maintain quality of life by using new financial technologies and be effective in various spheres of life. This study investigated whether there is connection between these two literacies and financial literacy of university students. Also, students’ demographic data, Internet use, agreement with statements concerning information and informatics literacy as well as the use of payment services before and after the Covid-19 pandemic was explored. In addition, the research aim was also to see if acceptable neural network model could be made for distinguishing students based on their reported financial literacy. Monte Carlo exact test showed that there is statistically significant association at the 0.05 level of significance between the self-reported informatics literacy and information literacy (p = .000, two-sided), age (p = .027, two-sided) and by making payments via digital wallets in 2021 (p = .007, two-sided) and 2020 year (p = .024, two-sided). Also, Monte Carlo exact test showed that there is statistically significant correlation at the 0.05 level of significance between respondents’ information literacy and their work experience (p = .005, two-sided) and who covers their life expenses (p=.019, two-sided). The Monte Carlo test also showed that both of these literacies have statistically significant relationship with financial literacy (p = .000, two-sided), but statistically significant relationship was not found between financial literacy and payments via digital wallets. Concerning the neural network approach, the obtained multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network model gained overall efficiency of 97.5% in distinguishing students based on their level of financial literacy.

Résumé :
The paper presents the importance of electronic instruments in research on economic literacy and how economic education websites are functioning in order to make people aware about the need for economic education. Two important instruments are presented: the test of economic literacy (TEL) and economic barometer (EB) posted on some frequently accessed economic education websites, such as http://www.councilforeconed.org/ or http://www.fte.org/ developed by organizations with particular interest in economic education field: Council for Economic Education (CEE) and Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE). These instruments are also accessible at www.cree.ro and were used to measure the level of economic literacy in Romania and to briefly inform people about economic growth. In addition, the paper presents other instruments accessible on the websites of many banks in Romania such as http://www.educatiefinanciara.info/ website developed by Romanian Association of Banks to test financial knowledge of population and to provide relevant information in financial domain. Banks' interest is mainly oriented to savings and credits, payments and mobile banking. All the electronic instruments used are relevant for a massive impact and open online education. The second part of the paper is focused on the results of an economic literacy survey based on TEL conducted online. The Romanian version of TEL is accessible at www.cree.ro and is an open resource. It can be self-administrated by anyone interested in getting information about his or hers level of understanding economics and applying economic knowledge in the real life. Persons who complete the test receive an instant feed-back and become aware of the main economic issues they need to understand deeper. The final part of the paper is a conclusive one and emphasizes the need to increase the level of economic literacy and to repeat annually the economic literacy survey.

Résumé :
Purpose With the promulgation of China's "Three-child Policy", the cardinal number of children population has surged. The era of parent-child format arrives. Since ancient times, China has emphasized on education. With the development of the internet, people have improved the Chinese character position unprecedently. In recent years, the game education APP of mobile terminal has developed with irresistible force due to the development of the mobile devices and the influence of COVID-19. But due to its virtual property, offline interaction is weak, and it isn't easy to review and memorize. The preschool children at the age of 3-6 focus on the concrete thinking, and their recognition to external things mainly depends on the concretization and representation of things and the association of representation, accordingly constructing knowledge. Therefore, under the trend of reduction of excessive homework burden and off-campus tutoring, it is critical to inquire how to effectively build the popular online and offline "AR game gene" in design research. Method The significance and opportunity for etymon literacy method to be introduced to children Chinese game design is found through theoretical research; The AR technology is used in practice through technical research to build the design method of virtual and real interaction; The law of development of Children's cognition and motion interaction is researched and the characteristics of word root and grapheme of Chinese characters are split and combined to find the coherence point of Children's cognitive development and literacy method and design a set of suitable Chinese character formula, excavating the similarity of word formation thought and design thought, and enlightening children's thought with word formation; Results Chinese character laboratory aims at the children at the age of 3-6 [critical period of Whole Brain Development], is oriented by the development of multiple intelligence of children, and takes AR foundation as technological base. The whole design research is analyzed in this paper and the work formation process is summarized. Conclusions The etymon literacy method and AR experimental game are of important innovative significance in children's thinking development. Chinese character laboratory fully considers the uniqueness of children in social cognition in design through etymon literacy method, will utilize children's curiosity to introduce laboratory concept, namely experiment is game, and conducts series connection of commonly used characters in the form of Chinese character atlas from fragment to systematization. In the meanwhile, AR children's interactive games are characterized by the vivid and interesting virtual Chinese character model, entity Chinese character card, AR technology's unique interactivity, immersion and imagination, and utilize the computer technology to achieve interaction, conforming to the children's concrete thinking. In the future, technology will gradually replace mankind's left brain for calculation and analysis, but the creative thinking controlled by right brain can't be substituted by technology, because the knowledge is limited, but the imagination and creativity are limitless. This design breaks through the boundedness, singleness and fragmentization of current Chinese character literacy for children, which not only can promote the development of comprehensive quality and creative thinking, but also can help children learn Chinese characters in open thinking. So it is considered as a key to develop the potential of children in all directions.

Résumé :
The text shows the importance of digital literacy among teachers in Poland. The analysis presented in the article narrows the concept of digital literacy to security issues. The importance of the subject results from the fact that teachers constitute an important link in the development of digital security at the second educational stage. The research was carried out on a sample of 279 teachers throughout Poland in 2016. The research is part of a national studies into the field of digital security in the school and family environment. The analyzes were carried out on behalf of the Ministry of National Education, commissioned by the Cities on the Internet Association (Stowarzyszenie Miasta w Internecie). The sample amounted up to 279 educators. The research tool involved: a knowledge and skill test on e-threats and a diagnostic survey (measuring attitudes towards the new media and collecting the sociodemographic data). The DL measurement was carried out as for the following areas: ergonomics of using the digital tools, reliability of information available on the Internet, safe interactions with other users, secure logins and passwords, protection of online image, copyrights. Each area was measured using 3 questions; the total number of test questions was eighteen. The tests are the attempt to go beyond the hitherto measurements of DL based on self-declarations. The weakest results were obtained in the area of copyrights. The highest test results were obtained for question regarding the protection from hoax. Teachers-beginners got the lowest results, thus they should be provided with particular support. The research shows the heterogeneity of the DL concept and the need for a lifelong education in the area of e-threats.

Résumé :
The Learning Through Play (LTP) at School Research Study Ukraine was a four-year intervention study funded by the LEGO Foundation and implemented by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) and the Ukrainian Educational Research Association (UERA). The intervention was a two-year professional learning program that blended online, and face-to-face learning called the Teacher Innovative Play Program (TIPP). The TIPP was designed based on documented evidence that reports that teachers need opportunities to experiment and reflect to change practice. The study was guided by three research questions which were revised following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces on February 24, 2022. The revised questions were as follows: 1. What are the barriers and enablers that limit and/or support effective implementation of LTP in intervention school classrooms? 2. How do teachers in intervention schools implement LTP and adjust their classroom practices to promote learners’ literacy and social and emotional development? 3. How do children’s literacy and social emotional skills compare between testing time points including prior to and during the invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces?

Résumé :
This paper presents the findings of research undertaken in Ethiopia to examine the effects of COVID-19 school closures on children’s holistic learning, including both socio-emotional and academic learning. It draws on data collected in 2019 (prior to the pandemic) and 2021 (after schools reopened) to compare primary pupils’ learning before and after the school closures. In particular, the study adapts self-reporting scales that have been used in related contexts to measure Grade 3 and 6 children’s social skills, self-efficacy, emotional regulation and mental health and wellbeing, along with literacy and numeracy. Lesson observations were also undertaken to explore teachers’ behaviours to foster socio-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom. The findings advance current knowledge in several respects. First, they quantify the decline in Ethiopian pupils’ social skills over the period of the school closures. Second, they identify a significant and strong relationship between learners’ social skills and their numeracy, even after taking other factors into account. Third, they reveal a significant association between children’s social skills and their mental health and wellbeing, highlighting the importance of interpersonal interactions to safeguard children’s holistic welfare. The paper concludes by proposing a model for understanding the relationship between learners’ SEL and academic outcomes, and with recommendations for education planning and practice, in Ethiopia and elsewhere.
