Résumé :
A historical perspective is a vital part of insight into Anglicanism in Africa. This article assesses the role of missionaries when colonialists and missionaries were often perceived as collaborators. Further, the African nations’ struggle for independence impacted issues of identity and enculturation, so it offers a review of the place of African cultural and religious practices in this new faith, including the place of the uneducated in a seemingly elite religion and how addressing this necessitated liturgical renewal and other adaptations. Finally, it will look at the Anglican mission in African societies in relation to leadership, injustice, poverty, disease, secularization, and a restive youth population and highlight African Anglicans’ response to Western revisionist tendencies and redefinitions of gender and family. AbstractThis paper discusses the Anglican reaction to the so-called “Appeal to the Civilised World” of October 1914 in its broader context. After briefly outlining the direct response to the Appeal it then goes on to discuss the prevailing perception of Germany by English theologians as well as the complex relationship of English theology to German liberalism. It moves on to discuss the aftermath of the inter-denominational Kikuyu Missionary Conference which had taken place in 1913. This had divided the Anglican Communion since Anglo-Catholics, led by Frank Weston, Bishop of Zanzibar, disapproved of intercommunion with nonepiscopal churches. After the outbreak of war, there were calls from Germany for unity in the mission field since Christian nations could not be seen to be at war with one another. Anglo-Catholic opposition to Kikuyu was coupled with a long-standing anti-liberalism which soon became fiercely anti-German in its rhetoric. Somewhat unwittingly the primitive German and English propaganda machines helped seal the fate of liberal theology into the next generation on account of its “Made in Germany” origins.

Abstract At some time or another, many readers of this volume have shaken their heads in amazement at overhearing speakers who were carrying out a conversation in two languages, apparently freely drawing from both linguistic systems at will. Some readers themselves produce such conversations regularly. Such naturally occurring conversations on everyday topics are the subject of this study. These conversations are frequent all over the world wherever the participants are bilinguals, from Puerto Rican secretaries rapidly alternating Spanish and English while strolling on lunch-break on the sidewalks of New York City, to Kikuyu market vendors in Nairobi, Kenya, judiciously adding phrases in Luo to their Swahili while wooing a Luo-speaking customer, to university professors in Tamil Nadu, India, interchanging English and Tamil when relating what happened at a recent academic conference.

This paper presents the optimal plan in an assumed cogeneration system based on Advanced Co-generation system built in Kikui-cho campus and suggests the introductory technique of co-generation system. At first, we analyzed the annual change of the electric power and cooling demand for a typical consumer and completed the assumed model by formulating. In hospital, hotel, etc., it was checked that electric power and cooling demand have the high correlation with outside temperature, and the daily maximum temperature is effective as an explaining variable especially. We verified the optimal planning according to the consumer using this assumed demand.

Makala haya yanahusu nafasi ya lugha ya Kiswahili katika mfumo wa elimu ya juu nchini. Msingi wake unatokana na ujumuishaji mno wa kimapokeo kwamba kila kinachofundishwa kwa ‘Kiswahili’ ni lugha ya Kiswahili. Uchambuzi wa sera na maandiko mengine yanayohusiana ama na lugha na elimu au lugha na utamaduni ulifanyika na kuwasilishwa kinathari. Vilevile, maudhui ya kozi za taaluma za Kiswahili zinazofundishwa Chuo Kikuu cha Dar es Salaam (CKD) hususani katika Taasisi ya Taaluma za Kiswahili (TATAKI) yalifanyika. Matokeo ya uchambuzi huo yamedhihirisha kwamba lugha ya Kiswahili imevuka mipaka ya kufundishwa kama somo na kuwa lugha ya kufundishia taaluma za Kiswahili katika ngazi za shahada ya awali, umahiri na uzamivu. Hii ina maana kuwa lugha ya Kiswahili inatumika katika uzalishaji wa maarifa yanayotokana na tafiti. Tafiti ni sehemu ya masharti ya kukamilisha shahada za umahiri na uzamivu katika vyuo vikuu duniani. Licha ya ombwe la sera ya lugha ambalo ni kikwazo kikubwa cha upanuzi wa matumizi ya Kiswahili katika elimu ya juu nchini, mtazamo wa makala haya ni kwamba Kiswahili kinatumika kufundishia. Wito wa makala haya ni kwamba wigo wa matumizi ya Kiswahili kufundishia elimu ya juu upanuliwe katika nyuga zingine za kitaaluma baada ya kuonesha ufanisi katika taaluma za Kiswahili. Wito huu unatolewa kutokana na urazini thabiti kwamba Kiswahili bado hakitumiki kufundishia elimu ya sekondari. Maoni ya makala haya ni kwamba kutokutumika kwa Kiswahili katika ngazi hiyo, ni tatizo la wafanya maamuzi kuhusu lugha na elimu. Hatua madhubuti inayopaswa kuchukuliwa kwa mahali pa kwanza ni kuipa lugha ya Kiswahili hadhi ya kuwa lugha ya kufundishia elimu ya juu na elimu ya sekondari. Hatua ya pili ni kuhakikisha kwamba katiba ya nchi inaitambua lugha ya Kiswahili kuwa ni lugha ya Taifa. Hii itasaidia kuhalalisha upangaji wa rasilimali za kuendeleza lugha hiyo na kuchochea wigo mpana wa kufundishia kwa maslahi ya taifa.
