Résumé :
A high-power Nd3+:glass laser system has been constructed and tested. This system consists of a master oscillator, a four-pass amplifier for preamplification, and five-stage amplifiers. The system has been demonstrated in excess of 80 J (2 TW) at 40-ps pulse duration. Final laser beam quality was quite good due to the compensation of the polarization distortion in the four-pass preamplifier, the minimization of the diffraction effect by the image relaying, and the elimination of high spatial frequency components by the spatial filtering. This enables us to obtain high laser output power without any severe spatial spiking effects. Gains and spatial profiles of output pulses were measured after each amplifier stage.

Résumé :
The mechanical and electrical system designs and system integration including controllers and sensory devices of the humanoid KHR-2 are presented. The design concept and the objective are also discussed. Since 2003, we have been developing KHR-2, which has 41 DOF (degrees of freedom). Each arm of KHR-2 has 11 DOF in total: 5 DOF/hand (i.e. fingers), 2 DOF/wrist, and 4 DOF/arm. Each leg constitutes 6 DOF. The head constitutes 6 DOF (2 DOF for eyes and 2 DOF at the neck), and the trunk has 1 DOF. KHR-2 has been mechanically designed to have a human friendly appearance and also wide ranges of angular motion. Its joint actuators have been designed in order to reduce motion uncertainties such as backlash. All axes of KHR-2 are under distributed control, which reduces the computational burden on the main controller and also to facilitate device expansions. We have developed a microprocessor-based sub-controller for servo motor operations, onto which sensory feedback is interfaced. The main controller, which is mounted on the back of the robot communicates with sub-controllers in real-time through CAN (Controller Area Network). Windows XP is used as the OS (Operating System), which enables rapid program development. RTX (Real Time eXtension) HAL extension software is used to realize the real-time control in the Windows XP environment. KHR-2 has several sensor types such as 3-axis F/T (Force/Torque) sensors at the foot and wrist, an inertia sensor system (accelerometer and rate gyro), and a CCD camera. The F/T sensor at the foot is crucially important for stable walking. The inertia sensor system is essential for determining the inclination of the robot with respect to the ground.

Résumé :
The WIMS/PANTHER Embedded Supercell Method (ESM) provides a significant improvement in prediction accuracy in radial power distributions for pressurised water reactors compared to the standard “two-step” approach, without the need for a significant increase in computational resource.A companion paper presents validation of the ESM as previously presented, using PANTHER pin-by-pin diffusion to correct interface errors arising from the standard two-step approach. However, in principle any reference method can be used to solve the embedded supercells and correct the basic solution – this is a significant advantage of the ESM.A paper presented at PHYSOR 2016 demonstrated that use of diffusion theory introduces significant error relative to transport theory only in the high energy range, due to the discontinuous fission source when modelling the interface between two types of pincell. This paper investigates further improvement of the PANTHER solution through use of simplified PN in the fast energy groups. This solution method can be implemented without the need for any significant change to the calculation route and further improves agreement with a transport reference for a small computational cost. The remaining error in the solution is examined by derivation of an effective diffusion coefficient from a heterogeneous transport reference. This suggests a simple characterisation of the discrepancy, which can be easily corrected. Results are presented in comparison to WIMS for supercells and the KAIST benchmark. For the KAIST small core benchmark assembly power errors relative to a WIMS fine group transport reference are shown to be less than 0.5 %. Results are also presented in comparison to Monte Carlo for the Watts Bar benchmark.

Résumé :
In the field of autonomous driving, carriers are equipped with a variety of sensors, including cameras and LiDARs. However, the camera suffers from problems of illumination and occlusion, and the LiDAR encounters motion distortion, degenerate environment and limited ranging distance. Therefore, fusing the information from these two sensors deserves to be explored. In this paper, we propose a fusion network which robustly captures both the image and point cloud descriptors to solve the place recognition problem. Our contribution can be summarized as: (1) applying the trimmed strategy in the point cloud global feature aggregation to improve the recognition performance, (2) building a compact fusion framework which captures both the robust representation of the image and 3D point cloud, and (3) learning a proper metric to describe the similarity of our fused global feature. The experiments on KITTI and KAIST datasets show that the proposed fused descriptor is more robust and discriminative than the single sensor descriptor.

Résumé :
This paper presents an auto-mesh generation technique using KIESSI (KAIST Infinite Elements for Soil-Structure Interaction) of near field zone for soil-structure interaction analysis (SSI). The working principle of KIESSI is based on coupled three dimensional finite element-infinite element methodology. Also, KIESSI is based on finite element method (FEM) for structure and near-field soil medium and infinite element method for layered half-space far-field. This study utilizes the auto mesh generation technique of near field zone on KIESSI package. The verification example for the effectiveness of automatically meshing technique may be shown through a compliance analysis of layered surface footing. For application example, seismic response analysis at a typical nuclear power plant is carried out in consideration of SSI. The obtained floor response spectrum results in good agreement as compared with the measured response data and the results from SSI analysis package such as SASSI (A System for Analysis of Soil-Structure Interaction).

Résumé :
In terminology, the predominance of nouns is an incontestable phenomenon. In Korean terminologies, this predominance of nouns is even more notable because the meaning and function associated with adjectives in Indo-European languages are often realized in noun form. However, the rarer adjectival terms are, the more they are used in restrictive, repetitive ways in specialized domains. Thus, it is important to distinguish the different senses of these terms. In this work, focusing on semantic characterization in terminology, we distinguish the different senses of adjectival medical terms by applying lexico-semantic criteria (L’Homme 2004a) and by classifying the arguments of the adjective into semantic categories (Bae et al. 2002). With this work, we aim to enrich terminological descriptions found in Korean medical dictionnaries by demonstrating empirically a method for distinguishing the different senses of adjectival medical terms. To achieve our goal, we used the KAIST corpus, composed of medical texts (1,500,000 eojeols), and a group of texts on various subjects (40,000,000 eojeols).
