Résumé :
This study aimed to investigate the effects of various compatible all-ceramic materials and bonding systems, on the bonding properties of dentin. Five types of commonly used all-ceramic materials (Cerec Blocs, IPS e. max Press, IPS e. max ZirCAD, Incoris Alumina, In-Ceram Alumina) were bonded with three types of adhesives (Multilink N, Variolink N, Relyx Unicem) for nuclear porcelain tile preparation. We evaluated the polymerization conversion rates, shear bonding strength (SBS), and micro-tensile bond strength (TBS) for each combination. The polymerization conversion rates, SBS and TBS differed significantly for all 3 adhesives with each all-ceramic group (P < 0.05). The Relyx Unicem agent had higher adhesive properties compared with the Variolink N and Multilink N agents (P < 0.05). The polymerization conversion rate, SBS and TBS of the five all-ceramic materials differed significantly with each adhesive (P < 0.05). The Cerec Blocs had the highest adhesive performance (P < 0.05). The polymerization conversion rate of adhesives differed with each all-ceramic material, while the dentin bonding strength differed with each all-ceramic material and adhesive. Clinically, all-ceramic materials with a high transparency and low refraction are recommended. For opaque all-ceramic restorations, the curing light time and polymerization reaction rate should be increased to improve the dentin bonding performance.

Résumé :
BACKGROUND The purpose of this in-vitro study was to compare the colour stability and bond strength of zirconia-based ceramic restorations after hydrothermal aging using conventional layering, heat-pressing, and multilayer veneering techniques. METHODS One hundred twenty specimens’ core (15 x 10 x 0.7) was fabricated from A2-shade zirconia CAD-CAM blocks (IPS e.max ZirCAD). Specimens were divided into 4 groups for veneering (N = 30): [(layering group (L), IPS e.max ceram), (heat – pressing group (P), IPS press), and multilayer group, IPS e max Cad for 2 different types of cement (cemented with RelyX U200 (M1) and PANAVIA SA (M2))]. Aging was performed for (5 - 55°C, 5000). Colour coordinates before and after aging were measured to calculate colour differences (ΔE00). The shear bond strength test was performed with a universal test unit. The data were analysed using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference test (alpha = 0.05). RESULTS Significant differences were found between the groups in bond strength (P < 0.001). Group M1 had the highest bond strength while Group L had the lowest bond strength. In terms of ΔE00 values, there were significant variations between the groups (P < 0.001). Group M1 had the highest colour stability, while Group M2 had the lowest colour stability. CONCLUSIONS The method of fabrication had an impact on the power of the bond between veneering ceramic and zirconia, as well as its colour stability. The restoration fabricated by a multilayer technique was cemented by resin cement (Rely X U200 Automix) which was found to be more resistant and colour stable. Résumé :
This study analyzed the wear behavior caused by steatite antagonists to four dental ceramic materials, comparing this between two surface treatments: polishing and glazing. Methods: Thirty flat samples (10 × 8 × 2 mm) were prepared from each of four ceramics: IPS e. max CAD (IPS), GC Initial LiSi Press (LP), Vita Enamic (VE), and monolithic zirconia (MZ). Subgroups of samples were finished by polishing or glazing or neither (as controls). The samples were subjected to computer-controlled chewing simulation (240,000 cycles of 49 N at 1.6 Hz, with thermocycling at 5/55 C), with steatite balls as antagonists. The samples and antagonists were visualized before and after the test with a laser abrasion measurement system, a CAD/CAM scanner, and electron microscopy scanning, and the volumes lost from the tested samples and antagonists were analyzed. Results: For the MZ samples, the polished samples showed significantly less volume loss than the glazed samples (0.0200 mm3 vs. 0.0305 mm3; p =0.0001), whereas there was significantly greater antagonist volume loss (0.0365 mm3 vs. 0.0240 mm3; p = 0.011). There were no significant differences between the subgroups for IPS, VE, and LP, although antagonist volume losses were non-significantly greater with the glazed samples than with the polished samples. Conclusions: Polishing MZ had adverse effects on the corresponding antagonist wear. Glazed MZ showed the lowest antagonist wear.

Résumé :
SUMMARY This study aimed to evaluate the marginal and internal adaptation of partial coverage crowns (ceramic onlays) fabricated with Press, CEREC BlueCam, and CEREC OmniCam systems, using two preparation designs and evaluating the internal discrepancies at different locations. Two phantom maxillary premolars (master teeth) received different preparation designs, with (BX) and without (NB) a modified occlusal box with round internal angles. Sixty IPS e-max ceramic restorations were fabricated with three systems: Press (n=20), CEREC BlueCam (n=20), and CEREC OmniCam (n=20). Both marginal and internal discrepancy width were measured by using a stereomicroscope at ×25 magnification. The data were evaluated statistically using analysis of variance followed by Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference test (α=0.05). The ceramic restorations fabricated with the Press system presented significantly smaller marginal and internal disadaptations than the BlueCam and OmniCam CEREC systems (p&lt;0.0001). Regarding the preparation designs, preparation BX presented the smallest marginal discrepancies for all fabrication systems and larger internal discrepancies than for restorations fabricated with the Press system. The occlusal location presented a larger internal discrepancy compared with the axial locations. Although the three systems resulted in the fabrication of restorations within a clinically acceptable adaptation with marginal discrepancies below 100 μm, the Press system presented the smallest marginal and internal discrepancies. An improved marginal adaptation was observed in the preparation design with a modified occlusal box with rounded internal angles.

Résumé :
A bureaucracy is a group of individuals who are non-elected and serve as government employees to help implement rules and laws of a country. The term bureaucracy was created by combining the words ‘bureau’ which means desk or office and ‘kratos’, meaning rule or political power to govern. Different countries have adopted various ways to induct people to run the government and make new laws. Max Weber, a renowned and notable German administrative scholar is credited to be the pioneer of the use of bureaucracy in public administration. In this book on the Civil Service of Pakistan, the author has described the way bureaucratic culture gained strength and restricted the grooming of political culture in the country. He shows how ‘seniority’ overwhelmed ‘merit’ in the promotion process of the officers in the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP), an offspring of the Indian Civil Service (ICS). The CSP officers always considered themselves as an élite class and looked down upon the politicians. The author narrates the superior attitude of Iskander Mirza (a notable member of the ICS, then CSP) in these words: “Mirza was proud of his IPS and CSP lineage and never missed an opportunity of proclaiming this fact. His admiration for the colonial system of administration was matched by a corresponding contempt for politicians.” The relationship between the bureaucracy and the military was to ensure that politicians did not make a mess of things. The bureaucracy was able to call on the military in times of crisis and never worried about its overstaying the visit. The basic theme of the Indian Civil Service was that the local Indians were recruited as officers by the British to suppress and control an enslaved people. Unfortunately, even after gaining independence the mindset of the bureaucratic staff didn’t change and they conveniently forgot that an independent nation required a different approach.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Objective: To determine fracture toughness (KIC) and fatigue crack propagation (FCP) parameters for IPS e.max CAD and IPS e.max Press. Materials and methods: For KIC determinations, 20 (6x6x6x12mm) notchless triangular prism (NTP) specimens of IPS e.max CAD and IPS e.max Press were prepared. IPS e.max CAD blocks were cut, ground and then crystallized, while IPS e.max Press ingots were pressed into molds obtained from wax prisms. Each specimen was mounted into a holder and custom grips were used to attach the holder to a computerized universal testing machine (Instron model 4301). The assembly was loaded in tension at a crosshead speed of 0.1mm/min and KIC was calculated based on the recorded maximum load at fracture. Fractured surfaces were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results were statistically analyzed using Weibull statistics and t-test (⍺=0.05). For FCP characterization, a pilot test was done with three Plexiglas NTP samples. A pre-crack was initiated in one of the specimen edges. Several lines were scribed on the side of the specimen to monitor crack propagation. The specimens were mounted in the holder and then attached to custom grips on a servo hydraulic fatigue-testing machine (Instron model 8511). A strain gauge was attached to these grips to monitor crack opening displacement. Each specimen was cyclically loaded in tension (Mode I) in a load range between 1 and 20 N and crack length was monitored and filmed using a high definition video recorder (SONY HDR-XR550V) attached to a microscope (Edmund Scientific Co, Barrington, NJ). Video recording was terminated once catastrophic fracture of the specimen occurred. Cyberlink Power Director and Image J software were used in data analysis. Results: KIC values were significantly higher for IPS e.max Press than IPS e.max CAD. The pilot FCP tests on Plexiglas revealed limitations with regards to the applicability of NTP specimen KIC test to FCP studies due to the presence of a trapezoidal crack front in the specimens. Conclusion: IPS e.max Press is superior to IPS e.max CAD in KIC. Further research should be conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using a trapezoidal crack front in FCP studies.

The Italy-China trade exceeded 50 billion U.S. dollars in 2018 and their investment surpassed 20 billion dollars in accumulative terms. With the growing importance of Sino-Italian trade relations, Italian fashion is immensely popular among Chinese consumers. The present study draws attention to how corporate communication strategies are realized from a corpus linguistic perspective and a multimodal approach through a case study of successful Italian fashion communication. This thesis is designed to identify the female image conveyed by Max Mara: from press releases to articles of Max Mara’s Chinese official account on WeChat and their subsequent news reports, and to investigate the multimodal strategies in the genre of news reports, highlighting corporate communication strategies and the reception of the messages on local media. This research implies a multi-angled study, with corporate communication at the center as well as a secondary focus on media reception of corporate communication. In order to carry out a corpus-based multimodal analysis, the present study is based on two small corpora: the corporate corpus (CC) and the media corpus (MC). The corporate corpus is composed of 12 press releases in Italian and English (PR-IE) issued by Max Mara from 2017 to 2019 and 6 articles in Chinese (WeChat-Ch) issued by the company’s official account on WeChat – Max Mara China for its communication strategy addressed to the Chinese market. The media corpus is composed of 118 news reports (NR-ICE) issued in Italian, English, and Chinese by fashion journalists in online fashion magazines or websites with fashion section covering the same period and events. The analysis applies both qualitative and quantitative research methods to conduct a more inclusive study. The qualitative research is carried out through the KWIC search use of the Concordance tool of the AntConc software in order to investigate the female image conveyed by the three genres. The quantitative analysis emerges by, applying the GeM model (Bateman, 2008), annotations of the base layer, layout layer, and rhetorical layer of each of the news reports in the corpus NR-ICE-T and the building of an XML-based multimodal corpus. The annotated corpus enables an analysis of the various semiotic resources for realizing semantic analysis so as to explore the possible effect of hierarchical rhetorical relations on conveying the female image. Subsequently, these two analytical areas are complemented by a further contextual analysis, which explores how the messages of corporate communication are received by the local media. This study contributes to a more refined understanding of the female image of Max Mara woman conveyed by different genres as well as the understanding of the RST relations between language and images employed in news reports. The results of this study could also facilitate the establishment of a profile of the communication strategies adopted by Max Mara while in China, leading to reflections on cross-cultural corporate discourses in the Chinese fashion world in reference to the Italian model, and improving web-based annotation tools applied to build potential future multimodal corpora.

Résumé :
OBJECTIVES: Evaluate the effect of different veneering techniques, Y-TZP core thicknesses, and firing cycles with different heat rates and holding times on the mechanical properties of veneering porcelain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Biaxial flexural strength and Thermal shock resistance tests were conducted to evaluate the mechanical properties of veneer porcelain. Core material, Y-TZP and two porcelain veneers, IPS e.max Ceram and VITA VM9, were used in this study. Vita YZ zirconia blocks were sectioned and sintered to provide slabs of 1.65, 3.25, and 6.50mm in thickness. Two techniques were used to fabricate VITA VM9 and e.max Ceram porcelain veneer porcelain discs, Hand Layered, mixing powder with manufacturer’s molding liquid, condensed in a mold, and Pressed, pressing powder uniaxially in a mold. A layer of carbon paint was applied to the zirconia to allow removal of the porcelain discs. For thermal shock test the veneering porcelain fired on the Y-TZP core with a wash layer. After the veneer discs were fabricated, they were sintered: (1) According to the manufacturer’s instructions; (2) Two different cycles with slower heat rate and longer holding than the recommended value. Biaxial flexural strength was determined using a universal mechanical tester. Thermal shock tests were performed using a Pober thermal shock device. Statistical analysis was conducted for all tests using ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test at p= 0.05. RESULTS: There was significant effect from changes of YZ Core thickness, firing cycle, and veneer technique on the mechanical properties of porcelain veneer. The veneering technique had the largest impact on the mechanical properties of veneer porcelain followed by firing cycle, followed by YZ core thickness. In using different firing cycles with different heat rates and holding times, slowing the heating rate had more influence on the mechanical properties of veneer porcelain. In measuring the surface temperature of the Y-TZP/VITA VM9 assembly, the specimen surface temperature was coincidental with the furnace programmed firing cycle using a slower heating rate firing cycle. CONCLUSIONS Veneering technique, slower heat rate firing cycle, and Y-TZP core thickness have significant impact on veneering porcelain mechanical properties.

FABIAN, FONZAR RICCARDO. « A study into mechanical, aesthetic and adhesive aspects of lithia silica-based glass ceramics ». Doctoral thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2158/1029670.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Lithia silica-based glass ceramics can be used in prosthetic dentistry to restore compromised or missing teeth. By modifying the chemical composition, silicates might vary in microstructure, formulations, processing methods, mechanical behaviour, and aesthetic appearance. Since the material selection might be also based on its mechanical properties, in the first investigation, the fracture resistance of CAD-CAM and heat-pressed lithium disilicate was evaluated and compared with regard to the translucency of the formulation and the processing method. By following a digital workflow, restorations are coarse in texture and opaque in aspect after milling. To make the surface compatible with the oral cavity, finishing procedures are necessary. In the second investigation, the efficacy of four finishing and polishing systems was tested on two lithia silica-based ceramics with standardized surfaces. After finishing, lithia silica-based restorations can be cemented with adhesive procedures. Micro-retentions and physico-chemical interactions are required to improve the adhesion between the resin cement and the intaglio surface. Since glass ceramics are hydrofluoric acid sensitive, in the third investigation, the effect of different etching protocols on the bond strength of two lithia silica-based ceramics with standardized surfaces was investigated.

Résumé :
This introductory chapter provides an overview of George Miller's Mad Max (1979). Mad Max is a freak picture with a fetish for fast-moving machines and the white-knuckle buzz of action cinema. It is also a dystopian narrative set one second before the great apocalyptic kaboom. In press interviews at the time, Miller specifically talked up Mad Max as a horror film. Mad Max displays an astonishing unity between character, narrative, theme, and environment. For liminality binds the film thematically, narratively and environmentally. A hero figure is in transition, society is in transition, and the land is in transition. In Mad Max, the world might be on the cusp of the gravest catastrophe, but one sees people still going about their lives. The chapter then looks at the criticisms on Mad Max.

Résumé :
In the next few chapters, we will examine some larger projects covering a number of topics in music education. In this chapter, we will look at a research instrument designed to measure the time when a participant responds to some stimuli while watching videos. 1. Open the file STI.maxpat from the Chapter 18 Examples folder This patch allows a researcher to show participants one or more video files and ask them to press the space bar in response to whatever the researcher wants to observe. For example, the researcher might show a video of an orchestra performing Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings and ask participants to press the space bar whenever they experienced “thrills” or “chills.” The program would then record the exact times, with respect to the video, that each participant experienced such a reaction. The researcher could then compare the times from that participant’s session to the times from another participant’s session. Let’s walk through the process together, though, unfortunately, instead of seeing an orchestra, you’ll have to endure a homemade movie from my trip to Colorado (it’s short—don’t worry). While you are watching the video, pretend that you are experiencing “thrills” and press the space bar a few times. To start the video, press the Return/Enter key; this will display the video in fullscreen. When the video comes to an end, press the esc key to close the fullscreen view. There’s not much audio in this video, but you can click the “test audio” button to ensure that your sound card is working (the ezdac~ should be “on” by default with the icon colored red). 2. Press the Return/Enter key to start the video in fullscreen view.

Résumé :
FBI associate director W. Mark Felt had two claims to fame: first, for authorizing illegal break-ins as part of the bureau’s Weather Underground investigation, and second, for his role as the shadowy figure known as “Deep Throat,” whose leaks to the press from the FBI’s investigation of the Watergate burglary helped topple President Nixon. For the first time, this chapter explains why Felt worked to officially reinstitute break-ins for the FBI’s Weather Underground investigation while actively opposing break-ins carried out by the Nixon administration’s team of secret operatives known as the Plumbers. Nixon’s aides formed the Plumbers in July 1971 after J. Edgar Hoover refused to launch an aggressive investigation of former RAND analyst Daniel Ellsberg, who leaked a damning classified report on the Vietnam War to the Washington Post. Following Hoover’s death on May 2, 1972, Felt worked to officially reauthorize break-ins for terrorist investigations to improve morale among special agents while waging a secret counterintelligence operation against Nixon and acting FBI director L. Patrick Gray to defend the FBI’s autonomy from the White House.

Résumé :
In this chapter, we will create a program that randomly generates pitches at a specified tempo. The program will have the ability to change a number of musical variables including timbre, velocity, and tempo. We will also write a program that allows your MIDI keyboard to function as a synthesizer. These two programs will be the basis of future projects related to composition and performance. Since you’ve already learned a number of objects in the previous chapter, let’s agree that when you’re asked to create an object that you already know, like button, for example, it will be sufficient for me to say “create a button” instead of repeating the process of creating a new object box and typing in the word button. Combining steps in this way will help us to get through the instructions with greater speed while reinforcing your understanding of how certain objects work. In this way, the instruction “create a message box containing the numbers 41 and 38” actually combines several smaller, and hopefully intuitive, instructions into a single step. I will slowly stop mentioning key commands and other shortcuts for objects and tasks that I’ve already introduced. Create a new patch and 1. Create a new object (press n) called random The random object takes a number as its only argument and randomly generates a number between 0 and one less than the argument when it receives a bang in its inlet. 2. Give this random object the argument 128 (Note: if you already clicked away from the object, double click it in order to, once again, enable typing within the object box) Be sure to put a space between the word random and the argument 128 or else Max will look for an object called random128 that does not exist. 3. Create a new button (press b) 4. Connect the outlet of button to the first inlet of random 128 5. Create a number box (press i) 6. Connect the outlet of random 128 to the inlet of the number box

Résumé :
In 2010, I was involved in a research project called the Interactive Music Technology Curriculum Project (Manzo & Dammers, 2010), or IMTCP; its goal was to teach music composition and performance to students who have no musical training by using soft ware instruments that allow them to play chord functions. In this chapter, we will examine the patches developed for this project. As you will see, even though each patch facilitates a different musical activity, the patches themselves use similar chunks of code neatly organized in bpatchers. These patches allow students to play chords, at first, with the number keys (1–8) from a computer keyboard as they learn about diatonic scale degrees and chord functions. Students in this project were asked to go online and get the YouTube links to their 10 favorite songs. The faculty for this project took those songs and reduced each part of the form (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.) to a set of numerical chord functions within a key. For example, the verse would be referred to as a The project was influenced by the Manhattanville Music Curriculum Project (MMCP; Thomas, 1970) and Lucy Green’s research on Informal Music Learning (Green, 2008). “1 5 6 4” in C Major while the chorus was a “2 4 1 5.” Students would then use a patch to play back the chord functions using the ASCII keyboard. 1. Open the file E001.maxpat from within the folder E001 located in the Chapter 19 Examples folder 2. Press the number keys on your computer keyboard (1–8) to play back the C Major scale. Use the space bar to end the sustain 3. Click the toggles 3 and 5 to add a third and a fifth to the output. Notice that the name of the triad is now displayed on the right We’ve looked at patches similar to this in the EAMIR SDK. Let’s take a look at some of the more interesting and novel features of this patch.

Résumé :
In this chapter, we will look at some innovative ways to control music making as we develop musical instruments. We will look at using your computer keyboard and mouse as performance instruments as well as discuss the use of videogame controllers in your patches. Designing your own custom musical instruments is a great way to tailor the controls to the specific physical abilities of users while allowing them to focus on certain specific musical concepts like pitches, scales, and harmony/chords. 1. Click on Extras>EAMIR from the top menu to view the main menu of the EAMIR SDK 2. In the umenu labeled Examples, click the third item 3.EAMIR _ASCII_Keyboard_Control.maxpat Unlock the patch that opens and look at its basic structure. As you can see, the patch is really just 4 bpatcher objects, 3 of which refer to patches we’ve already looked at. The newest bpatcher, at the top of the patch, is basically just a patch with a key object, a select object, and some fancy graphics—all things you learned to use in Chapter 3. Lock the patch and 3. Type your full name using your computer keyboard. Note that uppercase letters and lowercase letters trigger different buttons 4. Press the number keys 1–8 as these are mapped to message boxes containing numbers used as diatonic chord functions Without the top bpatcher, your patch generates chords in any key simply by clicking the message boxes. The top bpatcher is just a control interface that maps something (keys) to something else (message boxes). 5. Ctrl+click (Mac) or right click (Windows) the top bpatcher and select Object>Open Original “EAMIR_keyboard.maxpat” from the contextual menu This patch is set to open in Presentation mode. Unlock the patch and put it in Patching view. The contents of the patch are as I described: a key object, as well as a keyup object, are connected to two gigantic sel (select) objects containing the ASCII numbers for all the available characters on the computer keyboard nothing you couldn’t already do. In fact, the most impressive part of this patch, in my opinion, is the graphical part of it.

Résumé :
In this chapter, we will analyze a “Chord Namer” application that allows a user to enter a chord name and see the notes on a MIDI keyboard. Unlike the other patches we’ve worked on thus far, we will “build” this patch as a stand-alone program that can be used on any computer even if it does not have Max installed. Stand-alone programs are a great way of distributing your work to people for educational or commercial purposes. Open the file chord_namer.maxpat from the Chapter 11 Examples folder. This patch allows users to type in the name of a chord (C, for example) and see the chord displayed on a large kslider. Users can then play the chord on their MIDI keyboard while looking at the visual example. The letter name of each note appears on each chord tone when it is highlighted. For taller chords, a user may enable more chord tones to be added than simply just a root, third, and fifth. For example, a user wanting to play a Cdom7#9 chord could simply enable 7ths and 9ths to be displayed by checking the appropriate toggles, typing Cdom7#9 into the space provided, and pressing the return or enter key. 1. Type C into the text box at the top left and press the return or enter key 2. Play a C chord on your MIDI keyboard This patch could be useful for helping people perform a piece for which they have only a lead sheet with chord names. Let’s take a look inside the patch. The patch is currently in Presentation mode. Unlock the patch and put it into Patching mode. The patch is rather large in size so you may need to zoom out on the patch (⌘for Mac or ctrl for Windows ). Now that the patch is open, you may be surprised to see that there is only a small number of objects inside. Take note of the 3 bpatchers in the patch that generate chords, handle MIDI output, and, to the right, above the kslider, handle MIDI input.

This chapter examines why Albatross Press did not choose to restructure its business outside of Nazi Germany considering that Adolf Hitler's regime was extremely hostile to the spirit of the press. Despite the incursions of the Nazi bureaucracy on Albatross's way of doing business, the firm continued to flourish. Kurt Enoch became one of thousands of Jews to emigrate from Germany in 1936. He sold his publishing and distribution businesses to Max Christian Wegner, who returned to Germany. This chapter asks why Albatross did not seize the moment of Enoch's emigration to Paris to move its entire operation out of Germany. It suggests that the biggest reason for Albatross's decision to remain in Germany was Nazism itself.

Résumé :
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Belt-driven starter generator claw pole electric motors are used in hybrid automobiles to start the engine, charge the battery and to power the electrical system when its engine is running. Shaft and claw pole are important components in the claw pole electric motor. The claw pole is fitted onto the shaft through press-fit force. Press-fit is a widely used fastening process to join two different components by pushing a component inside or over another component with high press force which will create a strong bond between the components. Determining press-fit force required to assemble parts is very complex since it depends on a lot of factors such as mechanical material properties of components, interference fit condition whether it is in Min, mean and max condition, amount of contact pressure induced by contact surface, co-efficient of friction created in between components. The press-fit will help to prevent loosening components from its bond at high torque and speed. More over prediction of press-fit force is required to select pneumatic/hydraulic press machine capacity and to freeze the standard operating procedure in the assembly line. In this journal, the required shaft and claw poles press-fit force predicted to assemble for Min, mean and max fit condition by adopting contact non-linearity and material non-linearity technique in Finite element analysis (FEA) using Ansys Workbench and compared the FEA calculated results with theoretical calculation, physical measurements.</div></div>

Résumé :
Since electric products need more effective features in terms of being compact, small, thin and highly performant, a new concept to create the advanced JISSO is required. We have invented the film module manufacturing process, in which the semiconductor is embedded into the thermo-elastic film and wired directly to exposed bumps. In this device, the fundamental process which is the embedded semiconductor into the thermoplastic film PETG, has been developed. This process is essential for the embedded active components film. This technique can be applied to packaging, memory cards, smart cards, flexible multi layer film and so on. The embedding process has the following problems; 1) Stud bumps on the IC may not appear on the surface of the film, 2) Voids may appear in the film during a high temperature press, 3) ICs may crack under high pressure. Subsequently, we solved the thermoplastic film’s flow process during the heat compression process using the rigid-plastic FEM (Finite Element method) analysis. We solved the resin temperature and load during the heat pressing process. It was discovered that ICs (0.18mm) could embed into the PETG film (0.2mm) within 13s. Finally, we applied this embedding process with the contactless IC card, which achieved a distance of calls of 100mm.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Abstract This paper will describe a new surface boosting system AutoBooST® used as an artificial lift, it can be defined also as a surface auto gas lift system, fully automated and self-powered with real time monitoring and optimization of well production. Sonatrach and Expro Gulf with its partner Innovative Production Services (IPS) have introduced this technology in Hassi Messaoud field to increase oil production from the low wellhead pressure wells located away from the central facility where gas lift network is already deployed, as well as the remote fields. AutoBooST® operating principle is to separate the oil, water and gas at well level and re inject the separated gas into the well hence it is a system using the well associated gas as a gas lift and fuel gas of the unit which makes the unit fully autonomous with no external gas source nor energy requirement as the unit generates the necessary power to run all the utilities. Produced gas is recycled in a closed loop, therefore gas will be accumulated along with the operation and provides a wide range of gas rate to perform optimization of the gas lift injection parameters versus the produced oil. During the optimization or once optimum rate is set the excess of gas is diverted to the export line via an automated control valve. For down hole part, two options were used for the gas injection point either down hole circulating device SSD or SPM to allow gas lift injection from annulus to production tubing_ unloading valves are not required since compressor discharge pressure can reach 160 bars_ or run concentric tubing 1.66 inside the production tubing as velocity string. AutoBooST® application was very successful and gave an increase of production from 50% to 150%, particularly at well HMD-A with an increase from 2m3/h (301 bpd) @ Qginj = 0m3/d to 11 m3/h (1658bpd) @ Qginj = 23000 m3/d during the optimization phase then the well was set to produce at 6 m3/h (904 bpd) considering reservoir management aspects. As in conventional gas lift the production increase depends mainly on the well and reservoir parameters hence candidate well selection is the key factor. AutoBooST® application was already extended to target two to three wells with one package knowing that a current unit max compression capacity is 25000 to 40000 m3/d which is prone to improvement, however it is possible to use several units at manifold level to cover a large number of wells which will make a remote mini gas lift station. AutoBooST® is proven successful technology; it is an ideal solution for remote wells and fields. In addition to the production application it can be used to evaluate the gas lift conventional project prior to major investment decision.

This book can be useful for both students and practicing journalists or anyone interested in the history of the Ukrainian diaspora, Ukrainian journalism and Ukrainian culture. The author dedicated his work to Stepan Yarmus from Winnipeg, Canada – archpriest, journalist, editor, professor. As the epigraph to the book were taken the words of Ivan Bagryany: «Our press, born under the sword of Damocles of repatriation», not only survived and survived to this day, but also showed a brilliant ability to grow and develop. It was shown that beggars that had come to the West without money at heart can and know how to act so organized. It was also an example of how a modern «enbolshevist» and «denationalized» by the occupier man person is capable of a combined mass action».

Hicks, Jacqueline. Drivers of Compliance with International Human Rights Treaties. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), août 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.130.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Are international human rights treaties associated with better rights performance? The appetite for a conclusive answer has driven a number of large scale quantitative studies that have broadly shown little or no effect, and sometimes even a backsliding. However, the headline conclusions belie much more complicated findings, and the research methods used are controversial. These issues undermine confidence in the findings. Comparative and individual case studies allow for more detailed information about how domestic human rights activists use international human rights laws in practice. They tend to be more positive about the effect of treaties, but they are not as systematic as the quantitative work. Some indirect measures of treaty effect show that the norms contained within them filter down into domestic constitutions, and that the process of human rights reporting at the UN may be useful if dialogue can be considered an a priori good. It is likely that states are driven to comply with human rights obligations through a combination of dynamic influences. Drivers of compliance with international law is a major, unresolved question in the research that is heavily influenced by the worldview of researchers. The two strongest findings are: Domestic context drives compliance. In particular: (1) The strength of domestic non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and links with international NGOs (INGOs), and (2) in partial and transitioning democracies where locals have a reason to use the treaties as tools to press their claims. External enforcement may help drive compliance when: (1) other states link human rights obligations in the treaties to preferential trade agreements, and (2) INGOs ‘name and shame’ human rights violations, possibly reducing inward investment flows from companies worried about their reputation. Scholars also identify intermediate effects of continued dialogue and norm socialisation from the UN’s human rights reporting processes. Interviews with diplomats involved in UN reporting say that the process is more effective when NGOs and individual governments are involved.

Résumé :
The article examines the main features, general characteristics and essence of the concept of solutions journalism. The basic principles of functioning of this model of journalism in the western press and in Ukraine are given. The list and features of activity of the organizations, institutes and editorial offices supporting development of journalism of solutions journalism. The purpose of the publication is to describe the Solutions Journalism model: its features, characteristics and features of functioning, to find out the difference in the understanding of the concept of «solutions journalism» and «constructive journalism» in general. The task of the publication was to conceptualize the main trends in the development of solutions journalism in the Western and Ukrainian information space; show the main characteristics, formats of functioning and analyze the features of the concepts of «solutions journalism» and «constructive journalism». Applied research methods: at the stage of research of the history of formation of the concept of Solutions Journalism the historical method is used. The hermeneutic method of research helped in the interpretation of basic concepts, the phenomenological approach was applied in the context of considering the essence of the phenomenon of solutions journalism. At the stage of generalization of the features of the concepts of Solutions Journalism and «constructive journalism» a comparative method was used, which gave an understanding of the common components in their essence. The method of analysis allowed to expand the understanding of the purpose of Solutions Journalism as a type of social journalism and its main tasks. With the help of synthesis it was possible to comprehensively understand the concept of Solutions Journalism and understand its features. In Ukraine, this type of journalism is just emerging, but its introduction into the editorial policy of the media may have a national importance. These are regional and local media that can inform their communities about the positive solution of certain problems in other communities, and thus thanks to this model can save local journalism. In the scientific context, there is a need to outline the main differences in the understanding of the concepts of decision journalism and constructive journalism, to understand the socio-psychological need to create good news.

Lazonick, William, et Matt Hopkins. Why the CHIPS Are Down : Stock Buybacks and Subsidies in the U.S. Semiconductor Industry. Institute for New Economic Thinking Working Paper Series, septembre 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36687/inetwp165.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) is promoting the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) for America Act, introduced in Congress in June 2020. An SIA press release describes the bill as “bipartisan legislation that would invest tens of billions of dollars in semiconductor manufacturing incentives and research initiatives over the next 5-10 years to strengthen and sustain American leadership in chip technology, which is essential to our country’s economy and national security.” On June 8, 2021, the Senate approved $52 billion for the CHIPS for America Act, dedicated to supporting the U.S. semiconductor industry over the next decade. As of this writing, the Act awaits approval in the House of Representatives. This paper highlights a curious paradox: Most of the SIA corporate members now lobbying for the CHIPS for America Act have squandered past support that the U.S. semiconductor industry has received from the U.S. government for decades by using their corporate cash to do buybacks to boost their own companies’ stock prices. Among the SIA corporate signatories of the letter to President Biden, the five largest stock repurchasers—Intel, IBM, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Broadcom—did a combined $249 billion in buybacks over the decade 2011-2020, equal to 71 percent of their profits and almost five times the subsidies over the next decade for which the SIA is lobbying. In addition, among the members of the Semiconductors in America Coalition (SIAC), formed specifically in May 2021 to lobby Congress for the passage of the CHIPS for America Act, are Apple, Microsoft, Cisco, and Google. These firms spent a combined $633 billion on buybacks during 2011-2020. That is about 12 times the government subsidies provided under the CHIPS for America Act to support semiconductor fabrication in the United States in the upcoming decade. If the Congress wants to achieve the legislation’s stated purpose of promoting major new investments in semiconductors, it needs to deal with this paradox. It could, for example, require the SIA and SIAC to extract pledges from its member corporations that they will cease doing stock buybacks as open-market repurchases over the next ten years. Such regulation could be a first step in rescinding Securities and Exchange Commission Rule 10b-18, which has since 1982 been a major cause of extreme income inequality and loss of global industrial competitiveness in the United States.

Grumet, Rebecca, et Benjamin Raccah. Identification of Potyviral Domains Controlling Systemic Infection, Host Range and Aphid Transmission. United States Department of Agriculture, juillet 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2000.7695842.bard.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
Potyviruses form one of the largest and most economically important groups of plant viruses. Individual potyviruses and their isolates vary in symptom expression, host range, and ability to overcome host resistance genes. Understanding factors influencing these biological characteristics is of agricultural importance for epidemiology and deployment of resistance strategies. Cucurbit crops are subject to severe losses by several potyviruses including the highly aggressive and variable zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV). In this project we sought to investigate protein domains in ZYMV that influence systemic infection and host range. Particular emphasis was on coat protein (CP), because of known functions in both cell to cell and long distance movement, and helper component-protease (HC-Pro), which has been implicated to play a role in symptom development and long distance movement. These two genes are also essential for aphid mediated transmission, and domains that influence disease development may also influence transmissibility. The objectives of the approved BARD project were to test roles of specific domains in the CP and HC-Pro by making sequence alterations or switches between different isolates and viruses, and testing for infectivity, host range, and aphid transmissibility. These objectives were largely achieved as described below. Finally, we also initiated new research to identify host factors interacting with potyviral proteins and demonstrated interaction between the ZYMV RNA dependent RNA polymerase and host poly-(A)-binding protein (Wang et al., in press). The focus of the CP studies (MSU) was to investigate the role of the highly variable amino terminus (NT) in host range determination and systemic infection. Hybrid ZYMV infectious clones were produced by substituting the CP-NT of ZYMV with either the CP-NT from watermelon mosaic virus (overlapping, but broader host range) or tobacco etch virus (TEV) (non- overlapping host range) (Grumet et al., 2000; Ullah ct al., in prep). Although both hybrid viruses initially established systemic infection, indicating that even the non-cucurbit adapted TEV CP-NT could facilitate long distance transport in cucurbits, after approximately 4-6, the plants inoculated with the TEV-CPNT hybrid exhibited a distinct recovery of reduced symptoms, virus titer, and virus specific protection against secondary infection. These results suggest that the plant recognizes the presence of the TEV CP-NT, which has not been adapted to infection of cucurbits, and initiates defense responses. The CP-NT also appears to play a role in naturally occurring resistance conferred by the zym locus in the cucumber line 'Dina-1'. Patterns of virus accumulation indicated that expression of resistance is developmentally controlled and is due to a block in virus movement. Switches between the core and NT domains of ZYMV-NAA (does not cause veinal chlorosis on 'Dina-1'), and ZYMV-Ct (causes veinal chlorosis), indicated that the resistance response likely involves interaction with the CP-NT (Ullah and Grumet, submitted). At the Volcani Center the main thrust was to identify domains in the HC-Pro that affect symptom expression or aphid transmissibility. From the data reported in the first and second year report and in the attached publications (Peng et al. 1998; Kadouri et al. 1998; Raccah et al. 2000: it was shown that: 1. The mutation from PTK to PAK resulted in milder symptoms of the virus on squash, 2. Two mutations, PAK and ATK, resulted in total loss of helper activity, 3. It was established for the first time that the PTK domain is involved in binding of the HC-Pro to the potyvirus particle, and 4. Some of these experiments required greater amount of HC-Pro, therefore a simpler and more efficient purification method was developed based on Ni2+ resin.

Résumé :
This new surficial geology map product represents the conversion of Map 1366A (Prest, 1973) and its legend, using the Geological Survey of Canada's Surficial Data Model (SDM version 2.3.0) (Deblonde et al., 2017). All geoscience knowledge and information from Map 1366A that conformed to the SDM were maintained during the conversion process. Additional legacy information that exists on the original map is not included here. Supplementary legacy information from original marginal notes was added to complement the converted map unit descriptions. The purpose of converting legacy map data to a common science language and common legend is to enable and facilitate the efficient digital compilation, interpretation, management, and dissemination of geological map information in a structured and consistent manner. This provides an effective knowledge-management tool designed around a geodatabase that can expand, following the type of information to appear on new surficial geology maps.
