Résumé :
Abstract. We study the dependence of cosmic rays with heliolatitude using a simple method and compare the results with the actual data from Ulysses and IMP spacecraft. We reproduce the galactic cosmic-ray heliographic latitudinal intensity variations, applying a semi-empirical, 2-D diffusion-convection model for the cosmic-ray transport in the interplanetary space. This model is a modification of our previous 1-D model (Exarhos and Moussas, 2001) and includes not only the radial diffusion of the cosmic-ray particles but also the latitudinal diffusion. Dividing the interplanetary region into "spherical magnetic sectors" (a small heliolatitudinal extension of a spherical magnetized solar wind plasma shell) that travel into the interplanetary space at the solar wind velocity, we calculate the cosmic-ray intensity for different heliographic latitudes as a series of successive intensity drops that all these "spherical magnetic sectors" between the Sun and the heliospheric termination shock cause the unmodulated galactic cosmic-ray intensity. Our results are compared with the Ulysses cosmic-ray measurements obtained during the first pole-to-pole passage from mid-1994 to mid-1995.Key words. Résumé :
Abstract. We analyzed observations of the solar activities and the solar wind parameters associated with large geomagnetic storms near the maximum of solar cycle 23. This analysis showed that strong southward interplanetary magnetic fields (IMFs), formed through interaction between an interplanetary disturbance, and background solar wind or between interplanetary disturbances are an important factor in the occurrence of intense geomagnetic storms. Based on our analysis, we seek to improve our understanding of the physical processes in which large negative Bz's are created which will lead to improving predictions of space weather. Key words.

Prognostic technology uses a series of algorithms, combined forms a prognostic-based inference engine (PBIE) for the identification of deterministic behavior embedded in completely normal appearing telemetry from fully functional equipment. The algorithms used to define normal behavior in the PBIE from which deterministic behavior is identified can be adapted to quantify normal spacecraft telemetry behavior while in orbit about a moon or planet or during interplanetary travel. Time-series analog engineering data (telemetry) from orbiting satellites and interplanetary spacecraft are defined by harmonic and non-harmonic influences which shape it behavior. Spectrum analysis can be used to understand and quantify the fundamental behavior of spacecraft analog telemetry and relate the behavior's frequency and phase to its time-series behavior through Fourier analysis.

Résumé :
Solar transient eruptions are the main cause of interplanetary-magnetospheric disturbances leading to the phenomena known as geomagnetic storms. Eruptive solar events such as coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are currently considered the main cause of geomagnetic storms (GMS). GMS are strong perturbations of the Earth’s magnetic field that can affect space-borne and ground-based technological systems. The solar-terrestrial impact on modern technological systems is commonly known as Space Weather. Part of the research study described in this thesis was to investigate and establish a relationship between GMS (periods with Dst ≤ −50 nT) and their associated solar and interplanetary (IP) properties during solar cycle (SC) 23. Solar and IP geoeffective properties associated with or without CMEs were investigated and used to qualitatively characterise both intense and moderate storms. The results of this analysis specifically provide an estimate of the main sources of GMS during an average 11-year solar activity period. This study indicates that during SC 23, the majority of intense GMS (83%) were associated with CMEs, while the non-associated CME storms were dominant among moderate storms. GMS phenomena are the result of a complex and non-linear chaotic system involving the Sun, the IP medium, the magnetosphere and ionosphere, which make the prediction of these phenomena challenging. This thesis also explored the predictability of both the occurrence and strength of GMS. Due to their nonlinear driving mechanisms, the prediction of GMS was attempted by the use of neural network (NN) techniques, known for their non-linear modelling capabilities. To predict the occurrence of storms, a combination of solar and IP parameters were used as inputs in the NN model that proved to predict the occurrence of GMS with a probability of 87%. Using the solar wind (SW) and IP magnetic field (IMF) parameters, a separate NN-based model was developed to predict the storm-time strength as measured by the global Dst and ap geomagnetic indices, as well as by the locally measured K-index. The performance of the models was tested on data sets which were not part of the NN training process. The results obtained indicate that NN models provide a reliable alternative method for empirically predicting the occurrence and strength of GMS on the basis of solar and IP parameters. The demonstrated ability to predict the geoeffectiveness of solar and IP transient events is a key step in the goal towards improving space weather modelling and prediction.

The 3-dimensional structure of interplanetary shock surfaces are analyzed using observations from the Wind and ACE spacecraft. Events seen by both spacecraft were selected from the available data and used to calculate the radius of curvature R, of the shock surface. The surface structure was examined within the ecliptic plane, and evidence of large-scale curvature was seen when the spacecraft separation was sufficiently large. A simulation was run to test the effects of small errors in the shock normal, and showed that these errors could affect R, calculations at small separation. The radius of curvature was studied as a function of shock strength to look for evidence of ripples on the shock surface, though no correlation was found.

IPFS claims to be the replacement of HTTP and aims to be used globally. However, our study shows that in terms of scalability, performance and security, IPFS is inadequate. This is a result from our experimental and qualitative study of transparency of IPFS version 0.4.13. Moreover, since IPFS is a distributed file system, it should fulfill all aspects of transparency, but according to our study, this is not the case. From our small-scale analysis, we speculate that nested files appear to be the main cause of the performance issues and replication amplifies these problems even further.

Sci - fi books depending on how they are structured by their authors, might be in our case, the astronomer Carl Sagan, be used as reference texts in Science History by his indisciplinity. The specific case of interplanetary trips, theorized and thought scientificaly and advertised under a sci - fi language in books of Carl Sagan, is what this dissertation talks about. The authors of fiction texts, such as Sagan Arthur Charles Clarke and Issac Asimov, try to found their extrpolate in careful notes of trends that happen in society and science, and develop the ( narration, in Asmov and Clarke´s case ) implication or advertising with rigidity and consistency. On the other hand, part of the futuristic literature would be an important History of Science analysis instrument, for it to be possible of thinking in alternative proposals for a scientific policy and taught which may have a social reach. A kind of experiment or imaginary exercise. In other words, what is studied here, is the relation between sci - fi and science, which talks about interplanetary trips, and how they are explained in Sagan´s books. However, the dissertation, delimitates, in the first instance, must be considered about interplanetary trips, its dissimilation from the 30´s to the 60´s and the adverstising through two of the best sci - fi writers of the twentieth century, whose work was to advertise scientific ideas or Astronautic for a better understanding of the science, its role and the impact of science and technology, in a society which moves really fast, but without many details. After all, as it was a relevant realization of some of these realized fantasies by Carl Sagan´s commitment, initially, with the American industial military complexduring the Cold War against USSR, and after that by NASA.And what we have learned scientifically from the exploration of the Solar Sistem and the nearest planets, in a way that the results of this spacial exploration could be advertised with the help from literature and fiction, in a type of alert about the problems that we will have to face in a near future. At last, the mankind destiny, imagined by Sagan in a kind of manifest advertised by himself in his main books and analysed here for it to be possible to keep its parallelism of contents and trends between sci - fi books and the academic literatureabout the development of science and technology and the destiny of mankind and the individuals that make itself. This is a conclusion that History students having a beginning or complementary graduation in humanities, will be able to find on the shelves of science history, a worthy manifest for an unexpective reflection or for a militancy

Blockchain is an interesting technology, with different projects developing every day since it first gained its light back in 2008. More and more research finds blockchain useful in several different sectors. One of the sectors being healthcare, specifically for electronic health records (EHR). EHR contains highly sensitive data which is critical to protect and, just in the year 2019, 41,232,527 records were deemed stolen. Blockchain can provide several benefits when it comes to EHR, such as increased security, availability, and privacy, however, it needs to be done correctly. Due to blockchain being a rather novel technology, there is room for improvement when it comes to integrating blockchain with EHR. In this thesis a framework for EHR in the healthcare sector is proposed, using Ethereum based smart contracts together with decentralized off-chain storage using InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and strong symmetric encryption. The framework secures the records and provides a scalable solution. Furthermore, a discussion and evaluation regarding several security aspects that the framework excels on as well as what the framework could improve on.

Résumé :
Abstract. This paper tackles the problem of first guess trajectory generation for interplanetary missions flying in chaotic environments. Simplified dynamical models are first exploited to perform the preliminary design of deep-space trajectories which leverage orbital perturbations. A real trajectory is then obtained by a refinement procedure in a high-fidelity model. A description of tools and methodologies which will be developed during this PhD research is provided.
