Résumé :
AbstractSri Lanka is an island country located in the Indian Ocean, characterized by tropical weather, with an estimated population of 21.4 million in 2017, one third of them being children. Advancing and rapidly changing technology, novel industries, consumer goods and equipment have introduced new health hazards of a chemical, biological and physical nature to future generations. The infant mortality rate has declined to around 8–9 per 100,000 since 2015. Congenital malformations were the most significant cause of neonatal death. Thus, there might be unproven environmental factors which affect infant mortality rates despite robust field and hospital services. Air pollution is a major environmental health hazard to children, largely due to hazardous industries, vehicular emissions and traditional cooking stoves. The health of children living in urban households and attending schools in cities is adversely affected by air pollution. Usage of polythene and plastic for toys, utensils, bags, lunch sheets and other daily essentials leads to overusage and improper waste management and open burning. This emits dioxins, which are carcinogens, hormone disruptors, and which can be transferred to the fetus via the placenta. In rural areas, the burning of agricultural waste and certain agro-forestry activities have also led to air pollution. Indoor air pollution (IAP) remains a large threat as 66% of the population use biomass for cooking. Use of inefficient stoves and biomass, poor ventilation and absence of chimneys, contribute to IAP. Other indoor air pollutants such as tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds, asbestos, pesticides, kerosene, mercury, mosquito coils and biological pollutants also prevail. Biological pollutants, such as dust mites, droppings and urine from pets, insects and rodents, pollen from indoor plants and outdoor air, and fungi, including moulds in poorly maintained buildings, can trigger asthma or cause allergic reactions and infections among children inhabiting these environments. In rural areas, chemicals were accountable for 30.2% of acute poisonings, with kerosene oil being the most common cause, followed by paracetamol. More than 80% of agricultural workers in the country work in the informal sector with limited personal protective equipment use, while pesticide usage is increasing. Children who engage in agriculture-related work and hazardous industries are at risk of developing health consequences at early stages. Dengue remains a major environmental health problem as the reduction of mosquito breeding sites has been a challenging task for many years. It is essential to gain more evidence of existing environmental risk factors and their associations with the health of children. Information dissemination among local and international experts on Children’s Environmental Health (CEH) issues needs to be enhanced and properly established. Training programs should be conducted for healthcare workers to update their knowledge. Pediatricians are needed for remote hospitals and primary healthcare centers. Environmental parameters and biological parameters are not routinely monitored in most of the hazardous environments.

Résumé :
In Thailand today local cooking-school classes are a popular attraction on many tourist itineraries. Moreover, these experiences almost always prompt rave reviews from international visitors: “It was so much fun!” But why are cooking school classes fun? And what does this pleasure tell us about the cultural logics of authenticity in Thai culinary tourism and, more generally, about the commodification of food and identity in the contemporary global economy? Drawing on ethnographic observation in two of Thailand's primary tourist destinations, Bangkok and Chiang Mai, this article explores how cooking schools' claims to cultural authenticity intertwine with participants' experiences of playful entertainment. The ways in which cooking schools mobilize these dynamics illuminate the complex production and consumption of hierarchies of value within the global experience economy. On the one hand, Thailand's insertion within transnational circuits of touristic mobility and cosmopolitan desire has made the creative strategies of recreational cooking schools possible as well as potentially lucrative. On the other hand, the encounters schools stage between Thai and tourist participants remain framed by appetites for exotic cultural difference that ultimately reflect and reproduce global hierarchies of power and privilege.

Résumé :
The association of respiratory symptoms and lung function with the use of gas for cooking was examined using data collected as part of the European Community Respiratory Health Survey, an international multicentre study. Associations between gas cooking and respiratory symptoms and respiratory function were assessed by logistic and multiple regression models. Tests for interaction were used to examine whether the effect of gas cooking varied between centres and, as there was evidence for this, the average effects were estimated using standard methods for random effects meta-analysis. Data from 5,561 males and 6,029 females living in 23 centres in 11 countries were analysed. There was no significant association found between respiratory symptoms and gas cooking in males. In females the association between some respiratory symptoms and gas cooking varied between centres with an overall positive association with "wheeze in the last 12 months" (odds ratio (OR) 1.24: 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.00-1.54) and "wheeze with breathlessness in the last 12 months" (OR 1.33: 95% CI 1.06-1.69). There was no evidence that atopy modified this association. Cooking with gas was associated with airways obstruction in both males and females although the differences failed to reach statistical significance. In some countries the use of gas for cooking is associated with respiratory symptoms suggestive of airways obstruction in females.

Résumé :
Purpose This paper aims to examine current trends in business accreditation by describing and comparing the major international business accreditation agencies (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, European Quality Improvement System, Association of MBAs, Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs and International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education), and analyze their recent market expansion strategies (development and penetration using Ansoff model) as they compete for the schools seeking initial or continuing accreditation. Design/methodology/approach This is a comparative study of the business accreditation agencies and their competitive strategies, using publically available data such as lists of accredited schools published by the agencies as main data collection method. Findings Business accreditation agencies have utilized the market penetration and market development strategies to expand their market share in recent years. The key growth areas are international schools, regional teaching-oriented institutions, two-year institutions and for-profit institutions. Research limitations/implications This study is based on publically available data published by accreditation agencies. More in-depth analysis with survey method could be utilized in future study to identify more specific strategies and their impact on business schools seeking accreditation. Practical implications Accreditation is no longer a luxury but a requirement for business schools, but they have to make an informed decision on which agency to pursue to assure an appropriate fit. Social implications The public needs to understand the value and the requirements of accreditation. Multiple agencies provide different options to fit the missions of the different types of schools. Originality/value This study is valuable to business school stakeholders for understanding accreditation, the need for accreditation and the options they have available.

Résumé :
Objective. This study aims to evaluate the impact of an intervention program, taught by trained teachers, on foods and nutrients components of the Diet Quality Index–International among children in Grades 1 to 4. Method. A total of 464 children (239 female, 6-12 years) from seven elementary Portuguese schools participated in this randomized trial. Three schools were allocated to the intervention, and four to the control group. The intervention program was based on the health promotion model and social cognitive theory. Teachers previously trained by researchers in nutrition, healthy eating, and healthy cooking implemented the intervention in the classroom from November 2008 to March 2009. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, physical activity, and dietary assessments were performed before (2007/2008) and at the end of the intervention (2009). Dietary intake was gathered by a 24-hour dietary recall and the components of Diet Quality Index–International were defined. Results. Children from the intervention schools reported a significantly higher adequacy in vegetable consumption (p = .018) and a significantly higher moderation in sodium consumption (p = .032) compared with the controllers. Conclusion. Our study provides further support for the success of intervention programs that aim to enhance children’s dietary intake. Implementing similar interventions can be promising to support vegetable consumption and moderate sodium intake.

Résumé :
The association between ICT diffusion and education is a subject of hot debate in both ICT and educational circles. Stances range from positive enthusiast, to skeptics, to disbelievers vis-a-vis the impact of ICT on students’ achievements. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the presence of any correlation between students’ academic achievements as recorded by Trends in International Mathematics and Science (TIMMS 2011) and the penetration of ICT in their schools and households, with focus primarily on computers and the Internet. The paper relies on the analysis of the data published by the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS 2011), international study center and the international association for the evaluation of educational achievements. Statistical data analysis will be employed to figure out whether there is any correlation between the penetration level of ICT and the students’ score in math and science tests as recorded by the TIMMS 2011 international scale. The analysis conducted within the scope of this research indicates the lack of any association between ICT use and students achievements in math and science subjects. Though the linkage between students’ achievements is not a straightforward issue that can be uncovered via simple regression analysis, however, the results definitely indicate that employment of ICT in both schools and homes is an insignificant factor that can be easily offset by other major factors, like socio-economic conditions, instruction resources, teachers’ capabilities, or cultural factors.

Résumé :
<span>Accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is highly sought after by business schools both in the United States and internationally. Business schools devote considerable resources to earn and maintain the accreditation. Despite this effort and expense, surprisingly little literature has examined the extent to which AACSB accredited schools outperform non-accredited schools in market driven situations. This exploratory study is a first effort to fill this gap in the literature. The research here examines CEOs from large U.S. firms. Specifically, compensation earned by CEOs from AACSB accredited schools are compared to compensation earned by CEOs from non-accredited schools. We also examine the extent to which CEOs from accredited and non-accredited schools manage their firms differently and earn higher profits than other CEOs. The findings indicate that a large proportion of large firm CEOs earned their degree from an AACSB accredited school. The empirical findings are mixed, but the general picture is that graduates from AACSB accredited schools do not outperform other CEOs.</span>

Résumé :
This study examines the moderating role of acculturation and school type (Iranian vs. International schools) on the association between parenting style and positive psychological development (PPD) among Iranian youth in Malaysia. Some 194 Iranian adolescents were selected from Iranian and International schools using the stratified random sampling method. The Iranian Version of the Self-Identity Acculturation Scale (SL-ASIA), Alabama Parenting Questionnaire (APQ), and Positive Youth Development-Short Form (PYD-SF) were employed. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) was used for data analysis. The results indicated that acculturation moderated the association between father involvement and poor monitoring in the PPD of adolescents. Moreover, positive parenting moderated the correlation between the total scores for acculturation and PPD, although the school type did not. The current study has indicated the importance of the role of acculturation on the association between parenting and PPD of migrated Iranian adolescents in host countries.

Résumé :
China's education system encompasses both regular and international high schools, catering to students seeking a global education experience. However, the association of international education with high costs raises concerns about educational inequality. This essay delves into the problem of educational inequality within Chinese international secondary high schools, employing an interdisciplinary socio-political perspective that considers both economic and cultural factors. Drawing upon Michael Sandel's educational theory and Pierre Bourdieu's examination of cultural capital and habitus, this research identifies two primary factors contributing to educational inequality. Firstly, regional wealth disparities and economic differences among individuals can result in unequal access to international education opportunities. Secondly, differences in the possession and utilization of cultural capital among students attending Chinese international schools further exacerbate these inequalities. Despite these challenges, the analysis highlights the potential for resolution. Collaboration between governments, schools, and individuals is essential to build a more equitable international education landscape. Policymakers may focus on providing financial support and scholarships to economically disadvantaged students, ensuring that no student is denied access based on financial constraints. Moreover, schools can implement inclusive admission practices and bridge programs to support students from diverse backgrounds. Emphasizing cultural competence within the curriculum can also help minimize cultural capital disparities and promote a more inclusive learning environment. Ultimately, by acknowledging and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to educational inequality, Chinese international high schools can become catalysts for positive change and provide a level playing field for students aspiring to gain a global education experience.

Résumé :
Abstract Objectives To evaluate the genotype by environment (GxE) influence on Fe concentration and Fe bioavailability of select fast cooking bean varieties in Uganda. Methods This study compared two fast cooking Manteca genotypes (Ervilha, Cebo) to eight other white, yellow and red mottled genotypes, which included farmer local check varieties NABE15 and Masindi yellow. Genotypes were produced as a group across nine on-farm locations in Uganda over two field seasons. Cooking time was standardized with a Mattson cooking device and iron bioavailability was measured with a Caco-2 bioassay, which measures ferritin formation (ng ferritin/mg cell protein) relative to a navy bean reference control (cv. Merlin) as an indicator of iron uptake. Iron concentration was measured via inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy (ICP-ES). Results Iron concentrations of the cooked beans were highly variable across Uganda with low board sense heritability (plot basis 0.40). Iron concentrations in cooked seed ranged from 41 to 97 mg/g, with a mean of 67 mg/g across the nine production environments. Iron bioavailability ranged from 8 to 116% of navy bean control and was highly heritable (plot basis 0.80) among this subset of white, yellow and red beans. The fast cooking white (Blanco Fanesquero) and two Manteca yellow beans consistently had the highest iron bioavailability (64 – 116% of control) across all locations in Uganda. There was a significant negative association (r = −0.438, p ≤ 0.05) between cooking time and iron bioavailability of the white, yellow and red beans produced in Uganda. Conclusions This study demonstrates the high iron bioavailability trait of the two fast cooking Manteca yellow beans are stable across different production environments in Uganda. This study presents evidence that breeding for fast cooking times in yellow beans is not only a valuable end-use quality trait beneficial to smallholder farmers in Uganda, but could also be a sustainable approach for delivering more bioavailable iron to consumers in East Africa. The high variability of Fe concentration within genotypes raises concern that high Fe concentration can be a sustainable trait in Uganda.
Abstract: In 2009 the AAPS embarked on a project entitled ‘Revitalising Planning Education’, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. This project is currently in its second phase. Its primary aim is to move planning away from its control-focused origins (still practiced in many parts of the Continent) and reinvent it as a practice that is supportive of the poor in African cities. An entry point for doing this practically was formulated in the form of a second project that focused on case study research and documentation. Using the idea of phronesis developed by Bent Flyvbjerg as a point of departure, the Association facilitated a series of workshops and publications on the method, as a tool for teaching and knowledge production. "is paper reflects on the pedagogical dimension in particular, in reflecting on the project’s outcomes and its implications for graduate education, whilst also drawing on recent collaborative studio projects run in conjunction with Slum Dwellers International in reflecting on possible modalities for best achieving experiential learning. Nesse sentido, observamos que, no campo da história da educação, revisar experiências pedagógicas do passado nos auxilia a encontrar pistas e indícios de permanências que podem ancorar nossas lutas pela educação pública deste século XXI.To whom do our schools belong? The arbitrary closure of public schools in São Paulo, at exactly the time when we celebrate the 160th Geneva Congress (1866), a time when the internationalists gathered around the Workers' International Association elected education as one of its main flags, reappoints educational issues to the center of discussions, consecrating them as one of our urgent demands. In this sense, the field of History of Education, is important to review educational experiences of our past because they helps us to find evidences and clues of continuities that can anchoring our struggles for public education in this XXI century. Résumé :
The existence of an institutional and organizational space in which researchers, teachers of social work schools and social workers carry out research and education is an important condition for shaping the identity of social work. Such a specific space has been created for over thirty years by the Polish Association of Social Work Schools . The discussion on the role of the Association in the promotion of research and academic standards of education for social work – is a personal reflection of the author on the contribution of the organization in creating a symbolic and real space for the development of social work as a professional activity and discipline, as well as the exchange of ideas and theoretical and practical experience of social work in Poland. Not without significance is the contribution of PSSPS in creating scientific and didactic cooperation on an international basis. In the article, the author tries to recreate certain events from the past of PSSPS, as well as the spaces of experience of the community of Members, by participating in annual conventions, which, according to R. Koselleck, become a modernized past, creating the present and determining the future of the Association.

Résumé :
Purpose This paper aims to develop a clearer understanding of the role of business education and business schools in fostering global mobility. As business schools seek to educate managers who can work globally and adjust to new business and cultural environments, it is important to assess which specific dimensions of business education, such as the location of the school and its curriculum, play a significant role in fostering greater global mobility among business graduates. This also helps how business schools potentially influence global talent flows. Design/methodology/approach This study uses an empirical research methodology in the form of a multivariate analysis to examine a sample of 91 business schools that are accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the 2015 Financial Times Global MBA Ranking. Findings This study finds that international mobility of MBA graduates is mediated both by the design of the curriculum and the location of the business school. MBA graduates from leading business schools that offer greater levels of international experiential learning are more likely to pursue overseas careers after graduation. MBA graduates from leading business schools that are located in economically globalized locations, by contrast, are often more likely to remain in the country where they studied after graduation to pursue local employment opportunities. Originality/value This paper contributes to the knowledge of how business education influences the international mobility of business graduates and how it influences global talent flows.

Résumé :
The association between aspirations and education across the African continent is widely recognized. However, it is only in recent years that scholars began observing this connection in the context of the booming low-fee private schools (LFPS) sector. In this article, we consider the case of one of Kenya’s most prominent LFPS actors, a chain of primary schools called Bridge International Academies (BIA). Despite catering for a lower-class clientele, BIA bears ostensible markers of privilege, in the form of a veneer of internationality and intensive application of technology. Indeed, while BIA’s main promise relates to performance on the critical Kenyan Certificate Primary Education exam as a gateway to a better future, such promises are profoundly infused with ideas that appear disconnected from the harsh material conditions of the schools’ clients and staff. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in BIA schools in Nairobi focused on teachers and staff, we show the appeal of the language of internationalism to socio-economically marginalized Kenyans and consider its multiple interpretations within local imaginations.

AbstractObjective:To examine the relationship between household food insecurity (FI) and children’s involvement in family meal choices and food preparation, used as proxies for children’s food skills, and to explore gender differences within these associations.Design:Households were classified as food-secure or food-insecure using the six-item, short-form Household Food Security Survey Module. Children’s involvement in family meal choices and food preparation were treated as proxies for children’s food skills. Mixed-effects multinomial logistic regression models were used.Setting:Public schools in Nova Scotia, Canada.Participants:5244 children in the fifth grade (10–11 years old) participating in the Children’s Lifestyle and School Performance Study (CLASS).Results:Most children reported being involved in family meal choices or food preparation at least weekly (74 and 68 %). The likelihood of helping choose family meals once a week was 33 % lower among girls from food-insecure households compared to girls from food-secure households. No differences in boys’ involvement in family meal choices were observed according to household FI status. Boys from food-insecure households were 65 % more likely than boys from food-secure households to assist with food preparation/cooking four times per week. No differences in girls’ involvement in food preparation were observed according to household FI status. Conclusions:Findings support that household FI is not due to a lack of food skills but most likely due to inadequate access to resources. This supports the call for upstream policies targeting the structural issues underpinning household FI such as low income.

Résumé :
Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) is a comparative international assessment study conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). TIMSS aims to study how educational opportunities are provided for students and what factors are associated with these opportunities. The purpose of this study was to examine the student factors in the United Arab Emirates that have an association with grade 4 students’ TIMSS 2015 results in the content and cognitive domains in the subjects of mathematics and science. The study adopted the quantitative research approach through the data analysis of TIMSS 2015 for grade 4 students in these subjects. The study sample consisted of 21,177 students enrolled in 372 UAE private schools and 186 public schools. The percentage of grade 4 girls who participated in the study was 48%, while the percentage of boys was 52%. A multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to examine the most influential student factors that impact on science and maths achievement. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was implemented to examine the relationships between student factors and the content and cognitive domains of mathematics and science in the TIMSS 2015 results. The findings showed that the student factors with a positive association with student achievement were having breakfast on school days, engaging teaching in mathematics lessons, liking learning science, and confidence in mathematics and science. There was a non-significant correlation between gender and mathematics and science achievement. A surprising finding was that “liking learning mathematics” had a negative association with student performance in that subject. There was a positive association between student engagement and mathematics achievement, while the association between the engagement in science lessons and student performance was found to be insignificant.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTMany observers of the international relations (IR) discipline express concern about the decline in policy-relevant research within the academy. Some blame an academic culture and academic institutions that incentivize abstract, quantitative, or theoretical work that speaks to scholarly debates rather than real-world problems. This article asks how IR scholars value both scholarly and policy publications. Using data from the TRIP survey, we found that publications generally considered policy relevant are undervalued in academic tenure decisions. These findings hold regardless of whether faculty have attained tenure or whether they consider their own research to be policy relevant. However, scholars who consult, teach at colleges rather than research universities, or teach in Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs schools rather than political science departments are likely to believe: (1) that policy-relevant research products are currently valued more highly than their colleagues estimate; and (2) on the normative question, that these policy publications should be valued even more highly than they are. Overall, these results suggest an openness to increasing the value of policy-relevant research in tenure decisions as part of an effort to increase the amount of policy-focused work in the discipline.

Résumé :
Accreditation is becoming a widely accepted form of program assessment in higher education. The Association to Advance Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is the dominant form or accreditation for both business programs in general and accounting programs specifically. With high research expectations, AACSB accreditation seems to place “teaching” institutions at a disadvantage in gaining accreditation compared to “research” institutions. Forcing “teaching” schools to adopt rigorous research standards may have detrimental consequences to teaching, which is at the very heart of “teaching” institutions. The benefits of AACSB accreditation need to be measured against the high cost of achieving this accreditation. Other means of signaling accounting program credibility, such as International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), may be a viable alternative to separate AACSB accounting program accreditation.

Abstract This article summarizes the many initiatives and achievements of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) in pain education worldwide since 1973. These range from major events such as the World Congress on Pain that attracts thousands of attendees to the more intimate and focused Pain Schools and Pain Camps. The article describes how education has been a key focus of IASP since its inception and how IASP has responded to its members' desire for access to the latest knowledge about pain and evidence-based pain treatments. The unique contribution of IASP to the study of pain is reflected in its consistent focus on a biopsychosocial approach to pain, the promotion of interactions between basic scientists and clinicians, as well as multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborations. Details of these rich offerings can be found on the IASP web site, and this article provides a guide for those seeking to access them.

This article examines the attempts of several generations of manufacturers of cooking and heating appliances to manage competition in their very unconcentrated industry. They started with overt price-fixing, which soon failed, then moved on to a variety of more effective techniques—particularly joint regulation with the aid of a strong craft union, and the adoption of uniform cost-accounting and price-setting systems. The article illuminates the numerous ways in which a trade association could make cartel-like behavior work in an industry whose structural characteristics were apparently unfavorable and also the importance of state intervention to shaping and eventually limiting this strategy.

Résumé :
In the last decade, higher education institutions in the United States have experienced an increasing trend of internationalization, more and more universities have been aggressively recruiting international students. The enrollment of international students in US Universities has increased from 564,766 in the year 2004-2005 to 974,926 in the year 2014-2015, a 72.3 % increase in ten years. Due to COVID, there were 1.25 million international students studying in the US last year. This is 17.86 percent lower than the 2019-2020 academic year (data from the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Business schools in the United State stand on the frontier of internationalization. Some universities even have started to build satellite campuses and programs in other countries. Examples include Duke University built its campus in Kunshan China, and NYU built its campus in Shanghai, China. Based on the information provided by the Institute of International Education (iie.org), business and management programs have been continually ranked as number one in international student enrollment. Of the 974,926 international students enrolled in high education institutions in the United States in 2014-2015, 20.2% of them enrolled in Business and Management programs, with a total number of 197,258 students. In the years of 2020, the number of international students in USA business and management programs is 174,470, a slight drop from previous years due to COVID-19.In the United States, there are more than two thousand business schools, of which five hundred and fifteen (515) are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Each of these schools has a different ownership entity, either a private university or a public-owned university. In addition, each of them has different brand name recognition by the students, parents, and peers as well. Some schools’ brand names are highly recognized in the market, while others may not be well known at all. What are the appropriate strategies when these schools internationalize their program? In this paper, we propose a two-factor model, using ownership entity and brand name recognition as to conduct a taxonomy of US business schools. We classify business schools into four groups and further propose different positioning strategies for the four groups. Our research contributes to the literature on the internationalization of business programs in several ways. First, our two factors classification system for the business schools results in four groups of business school types, each of which has its unique supporting resources, academic reputations, and entity ownership structure. We further provide different positioning strategies for each type of school and college. The positioning strategies and the associated curriculum design as well as the supporting resources will then serve as a competition tool to attract future international students. Finally, our framework could provide guidance for the business school deans and the other university administrators for their action formulation.

The American Crystallographic Association has focused its celebration of IYCr principally on outreach to spread the message of the importance of crystallography in our daily lives and to attract young people into science. We have formed an Ad Hoc Task Force, representing 13 geographical regions of 100-200 members each to develop our goals, to coordinate events and to enable specific activities. Key to our activities are a website which offers an attractive link for young scientists, projects and teaching tools for schools, biographies of important crystallographers, an adopt a crystallographer link, and video and crystal growing contests. We have continued to send scientists to Latin America for training workshops and assist Latin Americans in attending the ACA meetings. In order to create a lasting legacy for the International year, we have worked closely with national organizations such as in the US the National Science Teachers Association, the American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Physics, as well as student outreach groups like the Society for Physics Students. Forging an ongoing relationship with these organizations will aid our continuing outreach. Similar organizational contacts have been made in Canada and in Latin America. Working with national organizations can also help to influence the political climate for science funding.

The purpose of this work is to analyze the current state and develop basic proposals for the further development of the draft National Plan for the Development of Human Resources for the Public Health System in the intersectoral and intersectoral direction – «Health care in all government policies» based on an assessment of the best practices of foreign and domestic experience. Materials and methods: The research material was the documents of international and domestic professional organizations, publications on international experience in training personnel on the fundamental principles of preventive public health. We used data from our preliminary research on the assessment of basic health systems and analyzed scientific data on current public health issues. To solve the tasks set in the work, a set of methods was used: historical, analytical, comparative, systematic approach. Results: Emerging threats and emergencies in the field of public health in recent years included the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the failure of global health systems to effectively deal with such challenges. For the development of new effective health care systems, it is necessary to change the paradigm and policies in personnel training using advanced and effective practices of international and domestic schools of preventive medicine, incl. on the example of organizing the experience of the State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service of Ukraine to control the safe environment of human life and counteract biological threats. Conclusions: It is advisable to identify those domestic developments in the training of personnel for the field of public health that have no corresponding analogues at the international level and initiate expansion of cooperation with relevant European associations, for example, the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER), the Public Health Accreditation Agency (APHEA); the European Public Health Association (EUPHA); EuroHealthNet; European Public Health Alliance (EPHA); European Health Management Association (EHMA).

Résumé :
Previous studies suggest that home activities affect house design significantly. This paper aims at identifying roles and household activities of Malay wives and their relationship with house design preferences. A study was carried out on selected working and non-working Malay wives of Bandar Tenggara, Johor, Malaysia, using a combination of structured and semi-structured questionnaire survey. The results suggest that activities such as cooking and other day-to-day operations have some correlation with their sense of space. The results suggest that patterns of housewives’ home activities affect their house design preferences. Keywords: Home activities; house design; women preferences; working and non-working housewives. eISSN 2398-4279 © 2018. Résumé :
The Association of Transnational Law Schools [ATLAS] is a consortium of seven law schools from four continents that launched an annual academic summer program, called the Agora, for doctoral students this past July 2008. As the name of the consortium would suggest, the program focused on transnational law. The Agora is one of several multi-school initiatives aimed at furthering the study of the globalizing legal environment. The Agora both reflects and furthers a trend in legal scholarship, and as a consequence legal education, toward a focus on a set of interrelated concerns, which include globalization, international governance, transnational law, comparative legal studies, legal transplantation and the apparent conceptual challenges that these pose. In important respects these new conceptual challenges have a long pedigree in questions about the scope of legal pedagogy and theory. The pedagogical controversy is rooted in questions about the purpose of legal education, namely, whether it is trade training and should focus on practical legal skills, or whether it should be conceived of as broader than this. Intimately connected to this pedagogical controversy is a legal-theoretical controversy about the scope of legal theory (and thus the nature of law and its investigation). Does the word “law” designate the organizational instruments of state power, or should we think of “law” as referring to a more diverse set of social-organizational systems that may have greater or less affinity and connection with state law?

Résumé :
Background. Worldwide evidence indicates that environmental and life-style related factors are associated with increased risk for cancers in the head and neck region. We aim to study the association between these risk factors and cancers in the sinonasal and nasopharyngeal regions in our environment. Methods. Longitudinal prospective cohort study at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos, Nigeria. Risk exposures were classified based on the International Agency for the Research on Cancer (IARC) classification of suspected carcinogens. Associations between variables were analyzed using logistic regression. Results. We studied 44 patients with malignancies in nasopharynx (n= 24; 54.5%) and sinonasal regions (n= 20; 45.5%). Male to female ratio is 1.9:1 and mean age is 45.2 years. Alcohol was the commonest risk factor in males (n= 19; 43.2%) while cooking wood fumes were the commonest in females (n= 14; 31.8%) which was associated with increased risk for malignancies for all sites, showing ten times risk in nasal cancers (OR= 9.67; 95% CI 1.87- 9.88; p= 0.01). Tobacco was associated with elevated risk of malignancies in the nasomaxillary and nasal regions. Other risks were herbicides, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers in farmers. Conclusion. The significant risk exposures in females were cooking wood fumes and alcohol, tobacco, and exposure to agricultural chemicals in males. Life-style modification and environmental changes to ensure clean air in Nigeria are essential to reduce risks.

Résumé :
This study extends previous work concerning the market orientation culture within specialty businesses and schools of business. Specifically, member schools of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International are separated into public and private universities. Data were collected via a mailed survey to business schools holding membership. 106 public school deans and 35 private school deans responded, for a 23% response rate. Input from the deans was sought on their perceptions of the market orientation culture within the schools. Respondents' perceptions, rated on a 7-point scale, measured four dimensions of market orientation: customer orientation, competitor orientation, organizational coordination, and overall market orientation. Data for specialty businesses were drawn from a previous study. Comparison testing between the public and private business schools' deans and business managers was conducted. Analysis indicated perceived market orientation was significantly higher for deans of private business schools than public business schools. Compared with business managers, private school deans were statistically different on only one of the four dimensions, whereas public business school deans' scores were significantly different from those of business managers on all four. Compared with each other, business school deans were statistically different on three dimensions, with private school deans reporting greater market orientation.
