Texte intégralPublic policies support the development of digital technologies in the agricultural sector, including precision farming tools. Thanks to the precision of sensors and digital models, these tools are supposed to help farmers reduce their environmental impact by optimizing their practices, e.g. in terms of water use, fertilizer use, etc. However, these technologies are the subject of controversy, as presented in chapter 1 of this thesis. On the one hand, the reality of the economic and environmental gains of precision farming tools remains uncertain. On the other hand, critical literature suggests that these technologies would lock agriculture into an unsustainable industrial model. Knowledge about the effectiveness of digital technologies is at the core of these debates. The aim of this thesis is to understand how and by whom such knowledge is produced. This is all the more important given that digitalization is transforming intermediary organizations in the agricultural sector, which have traditionally been responsible for evaluating innovations and producing knowledge about their effectiveness. From a theoretical perspective, further detailed in Chapter 2, this thesis is rooted in the field of evolutionary economics. It proposes an original conceptual framework to represent the evaluation practices of farmers, which is based on the literature on technology adoption, and of the intermediary organizations with which they interact, derived from the literature on knowledge intensive business services. From an empirical perspective, outlined in Chapter 3, this thesis explores the case of digital decision support tools (DDSTs) for nitrogen fertilization in France. It is informed by 110 interviews with farmers, precision agriculture experts and a variety of organizations that design and distribute DDSTs.Qualitative analyses of farmer interviews highlights the role of intermediaries, farm advisors in particular, in evaluation activities during the adoption of DDSTs, as examined in Chapter 4. In some cases, farmers' trust in their advisors seems to take precedence over evaluation during adoption. These surveys also reveal farmers' adaptation strategies to make DDSTs work on their farms. The subsequent chapters are based on interviews with organizations that design and disseminate DDSTs. In Chapter 5, a qualitative analysis of these interviews sheds light on how DDSTs are designed and distributed, and the complex interweaving of activities that make them work. Chapter 6 presents a combined quantitative and qualitative analysis of the activities involved in evaluating DDSTs, such as choosing the type of experimentation, which criteria were used, resources that were mobilized, etc. The analysis reveals three evaluation profiles among intermediary organizations. These profiles seem to have less to do with the nature of the intermediaries than with the place of technological development in their service activities. Beyond their diversity in terms of evaluation activities, these profiles are characterized by limited investment and low mobilization of environmental criteria. Finally, this thesis contributes to a “reality check” (Kivimaa et al. 2019) of the complexity of the intermediary landscape, taking into account the effects of digitalization. It invites us to qualify the reality of the precision of digital tools as well as their disruptive nature. This work highlights a risk of technological lock-in linked to the shift of evaluation towards demonstration activities that integrate few environmental issues. These results call for the development of a political economy of intermediation activities. They also underline the need for public intervention in these activities, in order to limit the risks of lock-in

Texte intégralSince 2014 the European Commission enhanced all member-states regions to establish a new type of territorial development strategies which call them to specialize within areas that are really embedded into their territory in order to push them to build a set of original competitive advantages that are impossible or difficult to imitate. Those new strategies are called: “Research and Innovation Strategies for the Smart Specialization” (RIS3). Since 2014, the formulation of a RIS3 strategy also became the obligation that conditions the possibility for regions to access to the European Regional Development Fund which is one of the main financial resources of regions to finance their development. But the main originality of RIS3 is certainly the fact that the classical “top-down” processes of selection and prioritization of the strategic orientations of territories that will be decided by each public government at regional level will also have to be based now on an “Entrepreneurial Discovery” process: a “bottom-up” process of identification of the domains of strong potential for the region which stresses the need to involve all the “regional entrepreneurs” (RE) (of all size, sectors or status) into the design of their territory orientations. However, it seems that there is a lack of practical recommendations to concretely implement those complex mechanism into the very heterogeneous contexts of each regional innovation system of European regions. Thus, this work present two propositions of tools that we developed to instrument those complex processes within the innovation system of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine: (1) “WeKeyInnovation, a collaborative platform to help RE to share information about innovation supports, and to create also the basis of a dynamic observatory at regional level in order to help policymakers in the design of more suitable territorial strategies; (2) “DialoJ”, a matching tool that will allow to all RE to clarify their needs before to participate to any networking events, in oder to help them to identify and to match with more suitable potential partners before to eventually start any collaborative business process with them

Texte intégralSince the 1980s, researchers have shown a rather dark portrayal of middle managers, either as victims of successive waves of rationalization and reluctant to implement the changes decided by the hierarchy. This research brings a new contribution by showing how this group of actors take advantage of areas of strategic ambiguity during changes to introduce innovations. Based on the recent context of reform of the health and social services network, a qualitative exploratory study was initiated among twelve middle managers of this network. In the light on the results of interviews conducted in 2016 and 2017, it appears that: (1) the innovation opportunities presented by middle managers mainly come from the endorsement they exercise with their employees under their direct responsibility; 2) a positive relationship with their supervisor is a favorable lever in terms of innovation opportunities; 3) communication problems linked to the many levels separating them from the general management represent a major obstacle to initiating strategic innovations. This research paves the way for new avenues of organizational change by introducing the notion of innovation in regulated organizational contexts often seen as not very innovative and focusing attention on actors other than leaders as innovative actors.
Tremblay, Nathalie. « Living labs as innovation intermediaries : symphonic orchestration of innovation dynamics in open innovation ecosystems ». Electronic Thesis or Diss., Strasbourg, 2023. http://www.theses.fr/2023STRAB012.
Texte intégralThe dissertation defines the dynamics of innovation through the lens of living labs, theorising on how these intermediaries, can effectively orchestrate innovation ecosystems through open innovation initiatives. The study offers numerous theoretical contributions on innovation for managerial practice and public policies, identifying key mechanisms and best governance practices, ensuring that sociotechnological and ecosystem perspectives are included in innovation strategies that create shared value outcomes. The thesis provides an opportunity to consider the role played by communities within the innovation ecosystem through the theory of the Commons (Ostrom, 1990), in an evolutionary perspective

Texte intégralThe purpose of this research is to obtain the appraisal and feelings of customers, translated by product attributes, about an innovative product during its design process, i.e. without all the sensory and functional features available like for a finished product. Two main goals are to inquire the customers’ ways of thinking early in the design process and to compare several products themselves or the same product at different stages in the process. The objective is to help the designers and managers decision. To meet these goals, we realized and checked several methodological approaches:• To offset the lack of sensory and functional features of an innovation’s prototype, we created a “sensorial brochure”,• To facilitate the product assessments’ comparison, we created a standard questionnaire to inquire customers. In fact, with a bibliographic research of the hedonic and pragmatic attributes involved in the assessment of a product, we created a list of statements,• To validate these methodological tools, we realized a comparative approach at several milestones or stages of the design process. In total, we realized six customers’ assessments at different stages of the design process with 302 respondents. Then we studied and compared the assessments’ results. The aim is to validate the construction of the sensorial brochure and the questionnaire and to conclude from the innovation’s prototype assessments at different stages of the design process. The questionnaire needs to be improved but it has already permitted to inquire the customers on their hedonic and pragmatic attributes in front of a product. The sensorial brochure helps customers to imagine the future product

Thesis, Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy, INPL, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010INPL075N/document.
Texte intégralTechnology transfer is an innovation process far from to be defined as a simple transmitter / receiver relationship of knowledge. It is complex. Thus the determinants of its success are still poorly understood and its modeling remains to be studied to a better management and optimization of the process. This thesis proposes a descriptive modeling of the technology transfer process. The aim is to have better understanding of the dynamics of technology transfer projects, and developing best practices to improve its management. In the theoretical field, we analyzed the models of the literature and proposed a meta-model of technology transfer from the point of view of systems engineering. We then sought to better understand the phenomena in situ.In order to reach our aim, an observation methodology for data collection at the micro level has been developed. We followed five transfer projects for a period ranging from three months to two years. Two dimensions have been emphasized: the immaterial and the material dimension. The concept of Intermediate Transfer Object (ITO) is introduced from the concept of design intermediary object. The data obtained were analyzed using two approaches:- a comparative descriptive approach, identifying invariants and divergent phenomena between the five processes. This has allowed us to propose best practices for technology transfer project management in the context of brazing.- a multicriteria approach based on the rough sets theory. This approach provides useful information for understanding the process through the decision rules. It validated the importance of the technology transfer object in the dynamics and the success of a project
