Résumé :
The purpose of the article is to develop proposals for intensifying the development of innovative entrepreneurship in Ukraine. The importance of intensifying innovative entrepreneurship is recognized by any business entity, because new innovative ideas, solutions embodied in a particular product can provide competitive advantages. The presence of entrepreneurial initiative by business entities, the use of effective tools to stimulate innovation, creativity and effectiveness of innovation can significantly enhance innovation entrepreneurship and overall efficiency of the innovation process. The methodological basis of this work is the synthesis of general scientific methods of theoretical and empirical research (method of cognition, analysis and synthesis, generalization and systematization of information). Results. Innovative entrepreneurship covers all stages of the innovation cycle: from the initiation of a new idea to obtaining specific results from the market use of the product. The main subjects of innovative entrepreneurship can be any enterprises and organizations that carry out innovative activities or are innovatively active. To develop effective measures to intensify innovative entrepreneurship, first of all, it is advisable to focus on identifying the strengths and weaknesses of innovative entrepreneurship, as well as opportunities and threats for its intensification in Ukraine. In this sense, it is important to assess the current level of innovation process, its staffing and financial resources, the level of innovation infrastructure, the establishment of integration relations between the main participants in the innovation process, the effectiveness of innovation, demand for innovative products and more. Practical implications. The analysis allowed us to reveal certain results. The strengths of the possible activation of the innovative enterprise include: the presence of a high level of personnel component of scientific potential, which characterizes the ability to generate new ideas; accumulated experience of successful innovation, cooperation between science and business, as evidenced by the main indicators of innovation, the number of innovationactive enterprises and enterprises in industry that implement innovations. Weaknesses for the intensification of innovative entrepreneurship should be highlighted: insufficient funding for science and education; declining trends in almost all performance indicators of innovation, which requires rapid implementation of measures to curb their further development in the field of innovation. Thus, in order to intensify innovative entrepreneurship in the near future, it is advisable to implement a number of measures, the tasks of which cover the following main areas of change: clear awareness of the national economy’s ability to innovate, create conditions for new products, increase its competitiveness; ensuring diversification of sources of financing of innovative activity of enterprises in order to reduce the costs of acquisition and use of innovative products; establishing close and productive interaction of the main participants of innovative entrepreneurship. Value/originality. The use of comprehensive analysis allows to identify the main problems of hidden entrepreneurship, taking into account the specifics of its manifestation in modern conditions.

Résumé :
The aim of this chapter is to challenge the context of entrepreneurship competences and management capabilities needed for innovation. We build our arguments in step with actual practice analyzing data from over 200 innovative companies which have been created under the formal requirements of a regional business plan competition during the last 10 years. This study explores the crucial capabilities to start an innovative business and discuss the capabilities have to be developed to sustain innovation and business growth. Therefore, it can be hypothesised that entrepreneurship and innovation education provided by Universities, Centres for Entrepreneurship and through coaching by Business Plan Competitions should focus on building awareness for the necessity of innovations and prepare inventors, entrepreneurs and students for not simply starting an enterprise but the change process in growing companies. The questions are not of whether or not to educate people about entrepreneurship and innovation but rather what are the context and the capabilities needed to sustain business and become an innovative and successful entrepreneur?

Résumé :
The subject matter of this article is incentives for innovations in entrepreneurship. There are two models of entrepreneurship which exist in developed market economies – traditional and innovative. Innovations have never been so important as they are now, which holds particularly true for small and medium-sized businesses. As Peter F.Drucker formulated it, “Innovation is the specific tool of entrepreneurs, the means by which they exploit change as an opportunity for a different business or a different service.” The methods by which innovations are encouraged change from country to country. The choice of such methods depends on economic, political and other conditions for a country&s development. By encouraging innovative activities, governments enhance the effectiveness of innovative systems and create favorable conditions for enterprises to engage in science and technology. For the EU, which falls behind the USA and Japan in so far as innovation technologies are concerned, it is a highpriority task to implement the innovation development strategy and to transform its economy in accordance with the up-to-date model by 2020. The aim of such strategy is to achieve industrial leadership as well as to support business, including small and medium-sized businesses.

Résumé :
This paper presents the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the issue of an innovation activity, which is very important for entrepreneurship and is considered a significant competitive advantage. However, there are factors such as education, age and gender that can influence innovation creation. The main purpose of the research is finding out how innovation creation is related to the gender, age and education of entrepreneurs in common entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. The systematic literature review has shown that innovative activity is supported by entrepreneurial competencies. The relevance of the decision of this scientific problem is that they are few studies focusing on that problem. Investigation of the topic of innovative activity in the paper is carried out in the following logical sequence: (1) literature review concerning on innovative activity, typology and modern trends in innovations (2) possibilities of competencies needed for innovations, (3) case study background, based on literature review and previous studies (4) presentation of key results concerning gender, which was found to have no significance regarding entrepreneurship. Methodological tools of the research methods were sociological survey, data analysis. As a result of the calculations, the main issues of innovative activities were detected. The main results were analysed using Cluster analysis and tests of statistical significance. The paper presents the results of an empirical analysis that shows the main gaps in the innovation classification when pure and combined innovation types are presented. The research empirically confirms and theoretically proves the necessity of doing the following steps: inform and educate entrepreneurs in the area of innovation, not only to support innovative activities financially. The findings have practical significance and the results of the research can be useful for public supporters and educational organizations how to work with entrepreneurs with innovative ideas. Résumé :
Cognition and systematic study of the essence of innovation processes remain extremely relevant scientific and applied problems. The article deals with state and prospects for the innovative entrepreneurship development in Ukraine compared with the countries of innovation enclave to search for catalysts for its activation. The basis of the generalizations and conclusions were the works of domestic and foreign scientists, normative-legislative acts, public reports and plans for the innovative development of Ukraine in various time intervals, data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, Eurostat, Startup Ranking and Global Innovation Index. In course of the research the author applied a wide range of general scientific and special methods of cognition. To perform a transformational analysis of the innovative entrepreneurship development, the ADIE 7D descriptive model is proposed, which is based on the following seven descriptors: (i) GDP science intensity; (ii) venture financing of innovation activity; (iii) share of enterprises engaged in innovations; (iv) the number of registered patents; (v) implementation of innovation projects (start-ups); (vi) ecosystem of innovative entrepreneurship; (vii) Global Innovation Index. The model allows identifying the stimulants and destimulators of influence on the process of creating a favorable environment of innovative activity. The following should be noted among the key stimulators of the innovative entrepreneurship development: significant innovation potential, entrepreneurial enthusiasm and creativity of innovators. However, the lack of adequate funding and a harmonized ecosystem of innovative entrepreneurship is becoming an obstacle to radical changes aimed at the innovative breakthrough of our country. Based on the results of the analysis, the author presents a strategic map of innovative entrepreneurship development in Ukraine by descriptors of the proposed model. In the course of the further research it is planned to supplement this ADIE 7D descriptive model by implementing new promising descriptors to deepen analytical procedures.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a special issue on entrepreneurship and service innovation, and to conceptualize the link between entrepreneurial orientation, innovation and entrepreneurship or new entry. Design/methodology/approach – Analysis of secondary data. Findings – Entrepreneurial orientation (EO), innovation (IN) and entrepreneurship are in a vital “triadic connect”, where EO supports innovation in organizations and innovation promotes new entry or new venture creation – a vehicle for commercialization of innovations. Research limitations/implications – There is a need for empirical validation of the linkages proposed in this conceptual paper. Practical implications – This “triadic connect” between EO, IN and entrepreneurship or new entry is a source of or key driver of organizational performance (OP) and competitive advantage (CA). Originality/value – The theorization and schematization of the “triadic connect” (i.e. EO–IN–NE link) and outcomes (namely, OP and CA) is presented.

Résumé :
The article seeks to explore the key categories that characterize the phenomenon of innovative entrepreneurship. It is specified that from the conceptual and categorical perspectives, the innovative activity of business entities is considered as a complex characteristic with a range of complementary definitions which demonstrate ambiguity and contradiction in their interpretation. The domestic and foreign economic literature review has revealed that there is neither a common conceptual framework in this field of scientific knowledge, nor a harmonized definition of even such basic categories as innovation, novelties, invention, entrepreneurship, innovation activity, etc. among modern scholars and practitioners. The primary sources in the history of economic thought in the area of innovative entrepreneurship can be traced back to remote past, found in the works of foreign economists and political economists who developed a number of theories and concepts revealing the nature, forms and specific features of innovative activity, as well as suggesting methods and pathways to enhance its development. The study offers a more specified definition of innovative entrepreneurship viewing it as a complex category which entails such notions as innovation, entrepreneurship, innovation process, innovation activity, innovation environment, etc. The research findings provide argument why innovative entrepreneurship is critical for effective development of the national economy. The suggested methodological approach argues for the need to explore the innovative entrepreneurship concept both at the micro- and the macrolevels.

Résumé :
Although innovation and entrepreneurship have been subjects of researchers’ interests for years, nevertheless both the concepts and the relationships between them remain controversial. Since different indices are accepted for the measurement of these categories, the question is whether the relationship between them depends on the choice of measures. The aim of the paper is to indicate the innovation impact on the entrepreneurial process with regard to different measures of these concepts. The research was conducted with the use of regression analyses as a method and yearly data for Polish regions in the period 2003–2018. At the initial stage of the research as many measures of innovation and entrepreneurship as possible were introduced into the estimation of regression function parameters. Statistically insignificant variables were deleted at later stages of research. This research confirms that innovativeness and entrepreneurship are broad concepts and the relationship between them depends on the choice of measures. Saturation with enterprises and saturation with start-ups seem to be more sensitive to innovation than other measures of entrepreneurship. Innovation seen as input, measured by spending on research and development (R&D) has a bigger influence on entrepreneurship than the output innovation measured by revenues from innovative activities. Considering a relatively low level of explanatory power of innovations, it seems they are not the only factor influencing entrepreneurship.

Résumé :
Innovative social entrepreneurship (ISE) is a topic of recent interest in research. The knowledge of the determinants of ISE and the characteristics of the innovations created by them is still limited. Therefore, the present document aims to contribute to this knowledge; specifically, it explores the determinants of the innovative behavior of ISE, during its process of creation and growth, and discusses the nature of such innovations (type, novelty, scope and impact) created throughout that process. Based on a case study of a paradigmatic Mexican social organization, we argue that these determinants are divided into: internal (characteristics of the individual entrepreneur and model/strategy of the organization); and external (context/environment). These determinants are causally associated with different stages of the abovementioned process and with certain attributes of the innovations developed. In addition, it is suggested that ISE innovation has a strong intangible and non-technological component, mainly in business model innovations, but also in its operating model (based on social inclusion).

Résumé :
This paper analyzes the gradual shift in the technological paradigm of an economy as it approaches the world technology frontier. The model developed in this paper consists of firms which employ skilled workers as an important input in technological advancement, but the novel feature here is the entrepreneur, who is the brain of technological progress. The entrepreneur has to decide to undertake either imitative or innovative activities, of which decision both affects and is affected by the country's distance to frontier. Specifically, the entrepreneur needs to have a minimum ability threshold level in order to carry out innovation. This endogenous threshold level falls as the economy moves closer to the technological frontier, enabling more entrepreneurs to be engaged in an innovation-based strategy, and consequently, moving the economy from a technological structure that is based on imitation of foreign technologies to one where domestic innovation dominates. The transitional dynamics of the model shows that there exists a steady state distance from the world frontier that countries will eventually converge to. We also find that it is possible for countries under certain conditions, to be trapped in a regime carrying out only imitation of world technologies.

Résumé :
Government policy issues and approaches of improvement innovative entrepreneurship are considered in the paper. Elements of policy intervention on innovative entrepreneurship were described. The way firm innovate and the nature of their contributions to innovation varies and depends critically on firm characteristics and the conditions they face to engage in innovation. The “technology push” and “market pull” models provide two perspectives on firm innovation. Innovation output may differ along the several dimensions, including the type of innovation and the impact of innovation. Innovation can play a critical role in addressing socio-economic objectives, which are affected by the following factors: economic growth and employment, environmental challenges, social challenges. Innovative entrepreneurship can contribute to socio-economic challenges by formalizing the informal sector. The main policy approaches to address challenges associated to policy intervention for innovative entrepreneurship deal with: institutional governance, strategy and coherence of policies, policy-making contexts for innovative entrepreneurship. Achieving coherence and balance in the set of policies affecting innovative entrepreneurship, and coordinating the various actors involved in these policies have, consequently, become increasingly important for policy efficiency. Specific rationales for public policies: access to finance, access to knowledge, access to labor, entrepreneurial capabilities and culture, market development and access, regulatory framework. Access to finance is a key driver in the creation, survival and growth of innovative new ventures. Within the context of innovative entrepreneurship, public policy can in the following ways: debt financing, venture capital, business angels, private sources of funding. Access to debt financing is a critical issue for innovative businesses. It allows them to finance their growth, meet working capital requirements and invest in innovation. Relevant to innovative entrepreneurs are alternative types of loans, such as convertible and subordinated loans. Convertible loans give lenders the right to convert credit into an equity participation in the company, whereas subordinated loans are junior forms of debt that, in case of insolvency, have lower priority than senior debt (e.g. asset-based lending). They are riskier but pay higher interest rates.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose a model suggesting that innovation may act as a motivating force that increases entrepreneurs’ growth expectations, in which entrepreneurs’ growth expectations are shaped by their subjective values and entrepreneurial experience moderates this relationship. Design/methodology/approach This paper conducts statistical analysis on a sample of 11,579 entrepreneurs from 24 countries who participated in the IIIP survey of innovation in 2011 under the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor project. Findings The results suggest that entrepreneurs involved in innovative entrepreneurship are more likely to have higher growth expectations, with subjective values playing a direct and indirect role in entrepreneurs’ expectations of firm growth. Additionally, the results indicate that the duration of entrepreneurial experience moderates the relationship between strategic orientation and confidence in innovation. This finding suggests there is feedback between having beliefs about the benefits of innovation and being an innovative entrepreneur, resulting in an over-estimation – at least in comparative terms – regarding firm growth rates. This relationship is stronger for novice entrepreneurs since experienced entrepreneurs tend to be more cautious about their expectations of growing. Originality/value This study deepens our understanding of the complex processes through which organizational-level decisions ultimately influence individual-level factors. The present findings contribute to progress in this task by suggesting that strategies aimed at cultivating innovation feed entrepreneurs’ subjective values of innovation as well as expectations of growth. Although the duration of entrepreneurial experience moderates the relationship between acting as an innovative entrepreneur and subjective values of innovation, the results suggest that entrepreneurs’ expectations are primarily driven by their internal perceptions of reality.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the dimensions of inclusive and grassroots innovations operationalised by a social enterprise and the impact of these activities on urban regeneration. To this end, the case of Homebaked in Liverpool, UK, is presented and discussed. Design/methodology/approach Face-to-face interviews with members of Homebaked’s management, staff and volunteers were conducted; the interviews were complemented with on-site observations and review of archival information of the social enterprise. Findings The data gathered revealed the organisation’s involvement in both types of innovation as a means to achieve long-term urban regeneration related goals. For instance, innovative, strategic and human dimensions, together with the human dimension emerged as key ways of innovating. The impacts of innovative practices comprised encouraging inclusiveness among residents and non-residents, with approaches including hands-on training workshops, job and volunteering opportunities being predominant. Originality/value First, the study advances the theoretical and applied understanding of grassroots and inclusive innovation in the context of a social enterprise. For instance, an innovative/strategic and human dimension emerged as predominant ways in which grassroots and inclusive innovation elements were manifested. These dimensions were based on technology uptake, implementation of new product/service concepts or harnessing the skills of local and non-local individuals. Similarly, four dimensions associated with the impacts of these types of innovation were revealed. Second, the study addresses acknowledged gaps in the literature, particularly regarding the limited contributions illuminating processes and determinants of innovation among social enterprises.
