An Equal Opportunities School. The School System: A Decisive Circuit –But Neglected– to Educate to Respect the Difference and Gender Identity Abstract: School can foster a deep cultural renewal by addressing whole generations of children and teenagers, along with their families. However, despite a widespread need to overcome prevailing patterns in symbolic order and social organization, revealed by lack of harmony at home, tensions resulting in violence, harassment and iniquities in the workplace… education policies and objectives aimed at teaching about gender citizenship and fostering nondiscrimination culture do not get the deserved attention. By sustaining these positions, the present paper summarizes the stance of Italian and northern European policies with regard to the binomial school education and gender difference. Meanwhile, the article tries to problematize some unavoidable conditions for attention on gender to foster a path of civilization, maturity and assumption of responsibilities on the part of a country.

Résumé :

Many people think that sin is merely doing what is prohibited and forbidden only. They forget that the first of iniquity to Allâh is leaving what was ordered, as when God commanded the devil prostrate to Adam, but Satan disobey His commands. This is the iniquity of Satan for the first time. Some scholars argue that all iniquity is a great sin. It looks like the scholars look of the Greatness of Allah Almighty and Exalted who disobeyed, so that even if the actual insubordination to his small, it still saw iniquity in him as a sin. In addition, many people do not know that in addition to the sin associated with the act limb zâhir as sin is born of the hands, feet, eyes, tongue, genitals and so there is also a sin that binds to the liver that cannot be seen by the eye but can be felt the impact, which is meant here is iniquity liver, such as cocky, riya, arrogant and so forth. Résumé :
The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Brazil in June 1992 reached international consensus on the need to stabilise greenhouse gas emissions from human activities. The use of energy in all its forms, contributes to anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. However, energy is a fundamental requirement for human existence, and the demand for energy increases with improved lifestyle, urbanisation and population growth. Approximately 90% of the world's energy needs are currently met by the use of fossil fuel. In spite of technological and economic developments with renewable sources of energy, it is unlikely that they will be a major contributor to the world's energy needs for the foreseeable future. In consequence, fossil fuel must and will continue as the major source of the world's energy. Fossil fuel reserves are finite, those of oil and gas are estimated to last for several decades, whilst those of coal will last for centuries. Therefore, when developing strategies for greenhouse gas stabilisation, it is important to consider the relative magnitude of these reserves and the best use to which each form of energy is suited, taking note of environmental, technical and economic requirement and consequences. The misuse of potential transport fuels in stationary applications may result in a short term reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, but could ultimately result in a significant increase in greenhouse emissions, once oil and gas reserves are depleted. It is equally important to consider all greenhouse gas emissions associated with the energy chain. These include emissions associated with the winning, preparation, storage and transport of coal, which constitute a very small component of the total greenhouse gas emissions from the use of coal. However, in the case of natural gas, although greenhouse gas emissions, associated with the winning, treatment, transmission and distribution or liquefaction, transport, storage and distribution will vary for each situation, nevertheless they constitute a significant component of total greenhouse gas emissions from the use of natural gas. Control strategies aimed at stabilising greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fossil fuels should encourage more efficient production, treatment, transport and use of energy. They should not include control measures simply aimed at emissions resulting from their use. Control measures, such as a carbon tax or a CO2 tax would distort the energy mix, would impact most on those in the community who are least able to afford the cost and would not take account of total greenhouse emissions associated with energy use. In fact, they could result in a real increase in greenhouse emissions. In addition, it would hasten depletion of scarce resources of energy, ultimately leading to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions from the production of transport fuels by conversion technologies.

The handbooks for confessors known as penitentials are, I shall argue, an important source for our knowledge of early medieval attitudes on the part of churchmen and others towards children. These texts, basically lists of sins with the prescription of an appropriate penance for each iniquity, can be said to reflect widespread practices and ideas. They originated in the Irish and British Churches in the sixth century and spread from there over all of Western Europe, where they remained in use until the twelfth century.

This article addresses the question ‘can literature help us with terrorism?’ by interrogating the common assumption that terrorism always ‘has an agenda’ that needs to be understood and addressed. The article offers a critique of Robert Applebaum’s argument that Shakespeare’s Macbeth represents a denial of the political agenda of the Gunpowder Plot, and argues that terrorism – especially contemporary Islamic terrorism – is nihilistic, merely destructive and offers (in Derrida’s words) ‘nothing good to be hoped for’. The achievement of Macbeth is to expose the ‘mystery of iniquity’ (2 Thess. 2.7) that lies behind all terrorism.

P. D. James is the successor to Agatha Christie as the queen of contemporary crime fiction. She is also a writer whose work is imbued with deep Christian convictions. Her novels are concerned to declare not merely who “done” it, but also why. She probes human motives with an unusually keen eye for the mystery of iniquity, especially the desire to murder in the name of good. James's novels also wrestle with the very largest moral and social questions, and her fiction suggests answers that are deeply incarnational.

Résumé :
Disgust, an emotion related to avoiding harmful substances, has been linked to moral judgments in many behavioral studies. However, the fact that participants report feelings of disgust when thinking about feces and a heinous crime does not necessarily indicate that the same mechanisms mediate these reactions. Humans might instead have separate neural and physiological systems guiding aversive behaviors and judgments across different domains. The present interdisciplinary study used functional magnetic resonance imaging (n = 50) and behavioral assessment to investigate the biological homology of pathogen-related and moral disgust. We provide evidence that pathogen-related and sociomoral acts entrain many common as well as unique brain networks. We also investigated whether morality itself is composed of distinct neural and behavioral subdomains. We provide evidence that, despite their tendency to elicit similar ratings of moral wrongness, incestuous and nonsexual immoral acts entrain dramatically separate, while still overlapping, brain networks. These results (i) provide support for the view that the biological response of disgust is intimately tied to immorality, (ii) demonstrate that there are at least three separate domains of disgust, and (iii) suggest strongly that morality, like disgust, is not a unified psychological or neurological phenomenon.

Abstract The Peshitta is considered a fairly literal translation. However, the attitude of the translator (using the singular here for simplicity) of Isaiah and Jeremiah to his Hebrew Vorlage was complex: he almost always preserved the original message, but exercised literary initiative, selecting lexical equivalents sometimes inconsistently, sometimes with great precision, sometimes disrupting rhetorical structure, sometimes making additions to render opaque Hebrew clearly. He did not see his text as 'sacred' at any point, nor did later scribes who introduced further small additions and modifications. The range of Syriac vocabulary employed is wide: there is no evidence of poverty.

This article examines George Lippard's portrayal of “queer space” in his 1845 novel The Quaker City. Despite William Penn's meticulous urban grid rooted in the democratic ideals of national space, Lippard presents Philadelphia's landscape as unruly, illogical, and transgressive. The novel's manor of vice, Monk Hall, is as twisted as the city streets, facilitating behaviors and experiences unregulated by hegemonic forces. I argue that by perverting the places of his novel, Lippard creates ruptures in the ideological underpinnings of a national geography. In so doing, he attempts to enact a radical social critique to reconstitute the Philadelphia of Penn's egalitarian plan. Yet while Lippard's exposé reveals Philadelphia's illicit elite, his sensational narrative undercuts any social transformation he may have imagined.

Résumé :
Abstract There is scholarly disagreement over the connection of the anticipated benefits of the new covenant of Jer 31 with the promise in 31:34 (»for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more«). The forgiveness promised is best viewed as the precondition for the covenant to come into force, not as a benefit under that covenant. This is in accord with the logic of the new covenant itself, wherein obedience is assured and so forgiveness is not needed under this covenant. The promise of forgiveness explains how the new covenant is possible after the failure of God’s people.

The aim of the article is to reconstruct the relationships between the Baptist understanding of baptism (credobaptism; believer’s baptism) and church and the religious policy promoted by the early Baptists. The following texts are explored: A Short Declaration of the Mystery of Iniquity (1612) by Thomas Helwys; Persecution for Religion Judged and Condemned (1615) by John Murton; and Religious Peace: Or, a Plea for Liberty of Conscience (1614) by Leonard Busher. Helwys and Murton were leaders of the congregation of Spitalfields, the first Baptist community in the Kingdom of England. Busher, lesser known, probably belonged to the congregation, and his said work is the first treaty to defend freedom of religion by a Baptist.

On 24 August 1744, in a sermon at St Mary’s, Oxford, John Wesley indicted what he perceived to be a poverty of ‘Scriptural Christianity’ within the University. Wesley began his homily by portraying an early declension of the Church; already in apostolic times, he maintained, the ‘mystery of iniquity’ had grown up alongside the ‘mystery of godliness’. Wesley then painted a dramatic picture of enduring conflict between these two forces throughout church history, declaring, ‘Here we tread a beaten path: the still increasing corruptions of the succeeding generations have been largely described from time to time, by those witnesses God raised up, to show that he had “built his church upon a rock, and the gates of hell should not” wholly “prevail against her”.’

Résumé :
In the early eighteenth century, two Basque brothers of the Spanish Zangroniz family established a trading house in the Cuban capital. Through the expansion and diversification of their business activities over time, they created a powerful transatlantic commercial network, and in the process became important actors during a period characterized by vastly increased economic integration in the Atlantic world. Behind this growth were technological innovations. The brothers' shrewd use of them “made it possible to transport more and different kinds of items across great distances.

More than a musical genre, jazz in the 1920s was viewed by critics and supporters alike as a type of lifestyle, one that frequently led to drinking, dancing, and “petting.” Much to the horror of older generations, white young people were particularly drawn to jazz and its “hot rhythms.” Secondary school teachers and administrators took up the formidable task of persuading youth of jazz's morally corrupting influences. I argue that, in the first half of the decade, such educators instituted curricular and various informal policies designed to replace jazz, universally associated with black musicians, with more “wholesome” European-originated alternatives. By the latter part of the decade, however, most educators admitted a grudging acceptance of jazz's permanence and abandoned their efforts to convince students of its iniquity.
