Littérature scientifique sur le sujet « Iconografia cristologica e mariana »

Il lavoro intende indagare alcune specifiche forme della devozione individuale laica in Italia tra Due e Trecento. Attraverso una rosa di sette casi-studio esemplari, manoscritti miniati opportunamente selezionati tra le collezioni di istituzioni italiane ed internazionali, si intende circoscrivere una nuova tipologia libraria: quella cui afferiscono i prodotti che in questa occasione sono stati nominati ‘codici ibridi’ o ‘miscellanee di transizione’. Tali manoscritti si pongono all’intersezione tra due precise categorie di strumenti altrettanto destinati alla devozione individuale di un pubblico laico: questi, molto noti, sono il Salterio ed il Libro d’Ore, tipologie librarie rispettivamente di antica e nuova codificazione, involte a partire dal Duecento in un processo di ibridazione formale che vedrà il sostituirsi del Libro d’Ore al Salterio quale libro rappresentativo della preghiera laica. I 'codici ibridi’ assorbono caratteri di entrambi gli estremi tipologici sopraddetti, senza però risolversi in nessuno dei due, e nemmeno nella loro somma. Questi, infatti, raccolgono al loro interno un inedito ed originale caleidoscopio di testi volti ad assecondare la loro specifica funzione pedagogica. Egualmente, la loro figurazione coadiuva tale intento orchestrandosi in programmi decorativi narrativo-didascalici dalle forti intenzioni mnemotecniche.

The dissertation is based on examples of contemporary artists whose work is based on and around Marian iconography and their attempts to perpetuate and understand the mother-child relationship. The intention is to explore and explain art based on the mother figure (the symbol of love) and then reuse the sanctified image of the Mother; specifically the Virgin Mary which they believe is able to more easily reach a public set within a modern visual culture. Its reinterpretation allows entry into a universe which joins a visual domain with a creative one that in turn justifies a third: the spiritual. The underlying objective in the artistic process is to achieve a contemporary essence and spirituality in art and to understand the artistic ideas and processes of the artists investigated

Enquadrada majoritariamente no âmbito da Arte Religiosa, nomeadamente no campo da arte sacra e da iconografia, esta pesquisa teve como objeto de estudo a iconografia mariana no espaço jesuíta português, o culto e a devoção à Virgem Maria na Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra. Partindo da análise do contexto cristão europeu ao contexto cristão português, verificou-se a evolução da espiritualidade e da devoção à Virgem Maria. Constatou-se que a evolução da espiritualidade e os debates teológicos em torno da divina maternidade de Maria refletiram sobre os programas iconográficos marianos. Assim, buscou-se identificar os elementos iconográficos pertinentes às diversas representações da Virgem. As Ordens Religiosas tiveram um papel crucial na promoção da devoção à Maria. As muitas igrejas, capelas e ermidas dedicadas à Nossa Senhora em Portugal denunciam a forte presença deste elemento devocional. Esta trajetória de pesquisa culminou com a análise do papel da Companhia de Jesus sobre a promoção do culto e devoção mariano em Portugal, especialmente na Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra. Com o apoio de D. João III, os jesuítas desenvolveram seu apostolado educativo em terras portuguesas, instalando colégios e estreitando sua relação com a sociedade. Assim como em outras igrejas da Companhia, a Sé Nova de Coimbra (antiga Igreja do Colégio de Jesus) exibe, em suas capelas e retábulos, diversos elementos que constatam a relevância do culto e devoção à Virgem Maria para a Ordem. A devoção mariana revelou-se como um elemento fortemente presente na história da Companhia de Jesus, sendo largamente explorada na arte sacra das igrejas jesuítas e, sobretudo, na propagandística da Companhia. Assim, concluiu-se que a Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra (atual Sé Nova) possui indicativos que revelam a elevada influência dos jesuítas na promoção do culto mariano em Portugal.

ABSTRACT -- Framed mainly in the context of Religious Art, particularly in the field of sacred art and iconography, this research had as object of study the Marian iconography in the Portuguese Jesuit space, worship and devotion of the Virgin Mary at Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra (Church of the College of Jesus in Coimbra). Based on the analysis from the European Christian context to the Portuguese Christian context, the evolution of spirituality and devotion of the Virgin Mary emerged. It was found that the evolution of spirituality and theological debates on the divine motherhood of Mary reflected on the Marian iconographic programs. Therefore, we sought to identify the relevant iconographic elements to the various representations of the Virgin. The religious orders played a crucial role in promoting devotion to Mary. Many churches, chapels and shrines dedicated to Our Lady in Portugal appraise the strong presence of this devotional element. This research trend culminated in the analysis of the Company of Jesus' role on the promotion of Marian worship and devotion in Portugal, especially at Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra. With the support of King John III, the Jesuits developed their educational apostolate in Portuguese lands, building colleges and strengthening its relationship with society. As many other Company's churches, Sé Nova (the New Cathedral) in Coimbra (former Igreja do Colégio de Jesus) displays in its chapels and altarpieces, several elements that identify the relevance of worship and devotion to the Virgin Mary for the Order. Marian devotion has proved to be a strong element that is present in the Company of Jesus' history, being widely exploited in the sacred art of the Jesuit churches and especially in the Company’s propaganda. Finally, it was concluded that the Igreja do Colégio de Jesus de Coimbra (current New Cathedral) has indications that show the high influence of the Jesuits in the promotion of Marian devotion in Portugal.

This work intends to propose a new museum project of a temporary exposure entitled A arte no concelho de Vila Franca de Xira - Grandes Obras (inaugurated on February 28th, 2014 and ended on October 25th, 2015), with a vast collection of pieces from various villages and private collections. It also aims to focus on key aspects of museology and museography based on methodologies and concepts based on this specific area. The critical exploration and analysis of some concrete examples as exposures and sacred art museums allowed the proposal of effective methods of sacred art objects exposure and, consequently, their appreciation and fruition. In this work, we have also proposed a risk plan and preventive conservation for chosen collection pieces. This collection comprised sacred art objects which were exposed in museological context, as a safeguard of their value. The creation of a digital museological space was the last step and served to visualize and study the best way to dispose, organize and communicate with the public. The idea consisted to use an existing space, the temporary gallery’s Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga and organize the pieces of selected exposure to create an itinerant route easy to read by visitors. For the elaboration of this work it was necessary to understand the whole surrounding that relates the religious component with the reality of a museum space, where the displacement of an object outside its religious space imposes to the circumstances of its entry into a museum space and which barriers this movement creates for the reinterpretation of the sacred object
