Résumé :
Aims: This article aims providing structural, and deeper, answers to the words used in titled, how “The Territorial intelligence process can be considered as necessary Ecology of Communication for development of “hybrid territories” and because in first part, we have been working, researching, for more decades in territorial intelligence field and secondly, because we have seen from the TICs development that territorial organizations in 21st Century are becoming hybrid, a mix made of physical (geographical) territory and digital territory and call for appropriate path to think about their future. Study design, Methodology & Place and Duration of Study: We illustrate our arguments by drawing on five situations of specific PhD research conducted in the interval from 2000 to 2014 throughout E.U in general and in France, in particularly. Reflecting the past six years, (2008-2014), they were fueled from the exercise of two local mandates. Results & Conclusion: All aspects encountered during these years need extracting additional points for consideration in the future. In conclusion, we propose structural elements for a response, and perhaps, for a future program of hybrid territories to be developed with the help of territorial intelligence process because of exposed territory to an insular development potentially breaking their continuum.

Résumé :
Hybrid Collaboration, where remote and co-located team members work together using different devices and tools, has already been trending in recent years (e.g., through globalization and international cooperation) but experienced a further boost since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The reason behind this surge in hybrid practices is probably that the crisis revealed aspects of remote collaboration which proved functional and which many decision makers (in industry as well as academia) plan to retain for the future. Thus, hybrid collaboration is an extremely timely topic which should be further studied in the context of CSCW. One major CSCW-anchored concept that has most intensively been researched in co-located collaboration settings where it is usually inherently related to spatial aspects and proximity, is territoriality. Already work on territoriality in fully distributed, remote settings has shown that there are significant differences due to the characteristics of the scenario. In this paper, we focus on territoriality in hybrid settings where we identified a significant research gap, and present the results of a user study with 22 teams consisting of four people each (distributed across two locations at two different universities), collaborating on a problem-solving task. Our findings reveal that more dimensions and communication channels, in addition to space, might strongly impact territoriality and territorial behavior in hybrid collaboration. Besides classical spatial territories also auditory territories frequently emerged. In addition, visibility of and accessibility to certain territories need to be rethought. We discuss these novel findings also regarding their interplay with earlier ones and derive design implications for CSCW systems supporting hybrid collaboration.

Résumé :
Abstract Hybrid zones between Townsend's Warblers (Dendroica townsendi) and Hermit Warblers (D. occidentalis) in the Pacific Northwest are narrow relative to estimated dispersal distances and appear to be moving, with Townsend's replacing Hermits. We examined whether the habitat-transition and parental-fitness asymmetry models can explain why these zones are narrow and moving by comparing habitat variables associated with warbler territories in the Washington Cascades hybrid zone. Habitat variables did not differ among phenotypes, suggesting that the habitat-transition model cannot explain the narrow and dynamic nature of this hybrid zone. Habitat characteristics of Hermit Warbler territories did not differ inside versus outside the hybrid zone, also suggesting that this zone is not associated with a region of habitat transition. The lack of difference in habitat use could be the result of comparing variables that are not important to pairing success. However, warblers tended to select territories on west-southwest aspects. South aspects in the southern Washington Cascades are dominated by Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and true fir, which is a habitat selected by female warblers when choosing among territories and males. The parental-fitness asymmetry model does not necessarily make predictions about habitat use within the hybrid zone but predicts the superiority of one parental species over the other. However, if significant overlap occurs in habitat use or niche (as in these warblers), then competition between parental species is likely to occur. To determine whether these species compete, we mapped 12 warbler territories and monitored an additional 94 territories throughout the breeding season and found that all males with neighbors compete for and hold exclusive territories. Thus, the pattern of habitat use and territoriality is consistent with the parental-fitness asymmetry model.

Résumé :
Purpose. The aim of this work is to develop an effective solar hot water system, which eliminates the heat loss of the accumulated thermal energy in the storage tank due to the natural convection of the coolant in the hydraulic circuit of collectors.Design technique. A fullscale experimental study concerns the negative effect of natural convection at night in the experimental industrial hybrid solar hot water system in the developed hard and software with remote access.Results. The pilot industrial hybrid solar system with the improved hydraulic circuit and a soft and hardware system for dispatching and managing energy consumption with remote access was developed, built and tested for Northern territories.Practical implications. The hydraulic circuit of collectors equipped with a controller for switching off the coolant provides the northern conditions to increase the thermal energy in storage tanks and the solar fraction of hot water systems, reduce the fuel consumption in additional system sources and the emission of harmful substances produced by the fuel combustion.Originality/value. It is shown that the use of a solenoid valve to eliminate the natural convection increases the thermal energy storage in tanks by at least 50 % and the solar fraction of systems by at least 20 %.

Résumé :
Abstract Aims Recurrent chest pain after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) poses a diagnostic challenge. We hypothesized that combining anatomy of bypass grafts and native coronary arteries with ischaemia detection by hybrid imaging could be used to gain valuable and complementary information in patients with recurrent symptoms after CABG. Methods and results We analysed 36 consecutive patients (67 ± 9 years, 81% male) who had undergone hybrid imaging using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) and [15O]H2O positron emission tomography (PET) myocardial perfusion imaging due to recurrent symptoms after CABG. Coronary tree and left ventricular myocardium were divided into three main territories, yielding a total of 108 coronary territories in 36 patients. The presence of obstructive (≥50%) stenosis and the patency of grafts were evaluated by CCTA, while myocardial ischaemia was assessed by quantitative adenosine-stress PET. Altogether 28 (78%) of the 36 study patients presented with matched PET/CCTA abnormalities. Forty-one coronary territories were supplied by non-obstructed bypass grafts or native coronary arteries (protected territory). However, 12 (29%) of these presented with a perfusion defect. In six cases, the perfusion defect involved myocardium distal to the graft-coronary anastomosis, as interpreted on the PET/CCTA fusion images. In turn, in 48 coronary territories the supplying artery was obstructed on CCTA (unprotected territory). Of these, 41 (85%, P < 0.001 vs. protected) presented with abnormal perfusion, involving myocardium distal to the anastomosis in 29 cases. Conclusion Hybrid imaging provides complementary information on the presence and localization of atherosclerotic lesions and myocardial perfusion abnormalities in symptomatic patients with previous CABG.

Résumé :
In May 2020, one of the largest conflicts in recent decades occurred on the Sino-Indian border. Against the background of discussion of heated armed clashes, observers have also noted that in the past years China has been using hybrid tactics as means of ensuring its control over the Line of actual control on the border with India. This article examines the hybrid tactics of the Chinese side to ensure sovereignty on the border with India the PRC's policy of installing military and civilian infrastructure in disputed and border areas. In the areas claimed by India and Bhutan, Chinese objects for various purposes appear - from camouflaged barracks and installations of unclear purpose to residential villages. These installations testify to the application by China of the so-called "сabbagestrategy" - the gradual "surrounding" the enemy with its infrastructure in order to establish de facto Chinese military and economic control over the disputed territories. In addition, Beijing has launched a large-scale development program for the border Tibet Autonomous Region in order to strengthen its borders. Such actions are hybrid tactics used by China in other territorial disputes, for example, around the islands in the South China Sea. They allow the PRC to have a military superiority over the opponent, to intimidate him with its economic and military influence in the region. Such actions fit into the framework of one of the priorities declared by the current Chinese leadership: the protection of national borders and the restoration of sovereignty over the territories “lost” during the so-called century of humiliation.

Résumé :
In eastern Australia, two forms of the Australian magpie occur: a white-backed form and a black-backed form. These two forms hybridise across northern Victoria and into South Australia. In this study the response of territorial magpies to caged intruders was examined. Pairs of adult male magpies were introduced into territories. Both were adult black-backed birds, but in each case one of them had its back painted white. The pair was introduced to each territory twice, with the bird that was painted white differing between times. The experiment was run in a population of black-backed birds and a population in the hybrid zone containing white-backed, black-backed and hybrid birds. In both cases, the residents were more aggressive towards the intruder with the white-back than they were to the black-backed intruder. We suggest that this may be because a white-backed bird posed more of a threat to residents than a black-backed bird.

Résumé :
Genome functioning in hybrids faces inconsistency. This mismatch is manifested clearly in meiosis during chromosome synapsis and recombination. Species with chromosomal variability can be a model for exploring genomic battles with high visibility due to the use of advanced immunocytochemical methods. We studied synaptonemal complexes (SC) and prophase I processes in 44-chromosome intraspecific (Ellobius tancrei × E. tancrei) and interspecific (Ellobius talpinus × E. tancrei) hybrid mole voles heterozygous for 10 Robertsonian translocations. The same pachytene failures were found for both types of hybrids. In the intraspecific hybrid, the chains were visible in the pachytene stage, then 10 closed SC trivalents formed in the late pachytene and diplotene stage. In the interspecific hybrid, as a rule, SC trivalents composed the SC chains and rarely could form closed configurations. Metacentrics involved with SC trivalents had stretched centromeres in interspecific hybrids. Linkage between neighboring SC trivalents was maintained by stretched centromeric regions of acrocentrics. This centromeric plasticity in structure and dynamics of SC trivalents was found for the first time. We assume that stretched centromeres were a marker of altered nuclear architecture in heterozygotes due to differences in the ancestral chromosomal territories of the parental species. Restructuring of the intranuclear organization and meiotic disturbances can contribute to the sterility of interspecific hybrids, and lead to the reproductive isolation of studied species.

Today, the consequences of climate crisis - such as the reduction of the land surfacearea due to increasing sea levels - intensify questions about the future of isolatedterritories in the Pacific Oceans and their populations. Funafuti, the principal atoll ofTuvalu, seems symbolic of this, faced with anthropogenic alterations affecting the islandsof the South Pacific. Here, changes caused by the submersion of land during the lastcentury have altered the traditional use of space, that is to say, prompted a chronologicaland gradual progression from a terrestrial to a hybrid habitat. The methodology adopted in this research consisted in analysing changes in the waymorphological, typological and symbolic alterations are measured, according to thevarious changes, interactions or evolutionary developments in both the geographic andurban strata that, together, constitute the space’s territorial identity. This study focuseson the period from 1945 to 2016, when the effect of anthropogenic and natural changes- particularly on the area’s spatial identity – became increasingly significant. Ourobjective is to promote the theory that, faced with the ocean’s increasing prominence atthe heart of the atoll, island inhabitants find themselves in a space characterised by itsongoing transformation into a hybrid environment - with hybridity both becoming apattern and informing adaptive process. This adaptation comprises a significant rupture in the way the ‘limit’ between landscapeand territory are perceived, a factor that results in the emergence of new, contextspecific,socio-spatial structures. Understanding how contemporary habitats evolve inthe face of climate change is necessary if we are to update and deepen ourunderstanding of the specific material and cultural developments of countries in contactwith the ocean. This transition - from oceanic landscape to inhabited oceanic territory -may represent the beginning of an extensive period of modifications within the Islandhabitat, which may eventually, over a longer period, result in the emergence of the first, more permanent oceanic habitats

Résumé :
Changes in demogaphics, employment and shopping habits, triggered by urbanisation and increasing mobility are important factors influencing Swedish countryside. Answering the changing conditions is especially important in the northermost counties, with very low population density and large distances between settlements. Within the peripheries of V.sterbotten the availability of basic social and commercial services is decreasing, as the economic viability of such businesses is too low and the former commercial model became unsustainable. Most of the service functions are associated to local grocery stores, and when one is forced to close down, the village loses not only its access to basic services, but most of all a meeting point for the community. The supply of food and errands is not a problem for the inhabitants, but the need for social activities and access to a neutral ground to meet the neighbours remains unresolved. This thesis is investigating possible alternatives and proposing new models of hybrid service centres for rural communities of V.sterbotten, that are capable of uplifting the countryside by focusing on the most important aspect: the people.

Résumé :
The present thesis analyses and clarifies the phenomenon of hybrid warfare. While the term has established its place in the political lexicon, current definitions and explanations are inadequate and unhelpful. This thesis addresses that shortfall by providing a concise strategic definition and a unifying theory of hybrid warfare. As a thesis grounded in the Realist tradition, the analysis focuses on the strategic implications with a view to aid in practical policy-making. Following a theoretical examination of the context and the intellectual history of the term, hybrid warfare is defined as a deliberately opaque blend of conventional and unconventional warfare. The rules of the international order and its 'guardian powers' are a key to understanding hybrid warfare and this thesis provides that understanding through the concept of the quinity. Based on the trinity, a concept emanating from Clausewitzian thought, the quinity blends traditional notions of war with the contemporary international order. The unique set of circumstances which such a combination creates is then combined with the proposed definition and operationalised through an examination of the defence policies and doctrines of the leading global powers. Hybrid warfare, whether practiced by state-like actors like Hezbollah, or states like Russia and China, can be said to represent the future of warfare, at least in the near- to mid- term. As a form of warfare which is not limited to any one domain, hybrid warfare is examined in its land, air, and maritime iterations by analysing the cases of the 2006 Lebanon War, the 2014 Ukraine crisis, and the South China Sea disputes. Its combination of opaqueness, effectiveness, impact, and strategic surprise makes it a carefully balanced and finely calibrated tool of international coercion.

Résumé :
Information technology, the web in particular, has played and continue to play a crucial role in today's society. The Network becomes one of the structural elements of the post-modern man and it helps to activate and shape new forms of sociability and community, based on multiplicity, on plurality and on diversity management. "Society of flows" is a mobile society, also known to be "light" since the communication is very fast, where space and time seem to contract and expand, and the relationships with them. This research aims to investigate: how and to what extent technology supports the creation of a community? When does it become part of the thinking and acting in everyday life? Is there the need to "re-embedding", building communities founded on the territory? How do you create a culture of common practices that make such a community hybrid, through the sharing and exchange of knowledge on a virtual terrain? To answer these questions, the research path is articulated through a survey structured on four levels: a "secondary analysis" that is based on information coming from the network (websites) of the selected communities, a qualitative interviews with stakeholders, the 'participant' observation and a quantitative questionnaire on the case of Milan. Starting from the construction of a synthetic picture of the realities considered by analyzing the sites, the thesis aims, at first, to the creation of reference models for communities that can share knowledge and promote local initiatives, as well as self- sustain itself. This allows the creation of community types that can be useful for the first phase of the research of the tesis'. Once structured, these models proceed to the creation of an effective system of indicators and sustainability. Then it moved to the structuring of a ladder of questions to be used for the interviews to stakeholders and, finally, has been prepared and submitted to a quantitative questionnaire in order to obtain the user's profile. The focus of the survey leaves out a new relational dimension, in spaces defined "hybrid" by virtue of their being places of relationships that are, simultaneously, virtual and proximity. Open questions, which disclose the exploratory nature of the research work and on which the argument ends, emphasize the need and importance, especially for the public administration, of framing social innovation in terms of credible support to initiatives that lead to the creation of communities and community networks in order to operate with the vision.

Résumé :
The first part of this essay aims at investigating the already available and promising technologies for the biogas and bio-hydrogen production from anaerobic digestion of different organic substrates. One strives to show all the peculiarities of this complicate process, such as continuity, number of stages, moisture, biomass preservation and rate of feeding. The main outcome of this part is the awareness of the huge amount of reactor configurations, each of which suitable for a few types of substrate and circumstance. Among the most remarkable results, one may consider first of all the wet continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR), right to face the high waste production rate in urbanised and industrialised areas. Then, there is the up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor (UASB), aimed at the biomass preservation in case of highly heterogeneous feedstock, which can also be treated in a wise co-digestion scheme. On the other hand, smaller and scattered rural realities can be served by either wet low-rate digesters for homogeneous agricultural by-products (e.g. fixed-dome) or the cheap dry batch reactors for lignocellulose waste and energy crops (e.g. hybrid batch-UASB). The biological and technical aspects raised during the first chapters are later supported with bibliographic research on the important and multifarious large-scale applications the products of the anaerobic digestion may have. After the upgrading techniques, particular care was devoted to their importance as biofuels, highlighting a further and more flexible solution consisting in the reforming to syngas. Then, one shows the electricity generation and the associated heat conversion, stressing on the high potential of fuel cells (FC) as electricity converters. Last but not least, both the use as vehicle fuel and the injection into the gas pipes are considered as promising applications. The consideration of the still important issues of the bio-hydrogen management (e.g. storage and delivery) may lead to the conclusion that it would be far more challenging to implement than bio-methane, which can potentially “inherit” the assets of the similar fossil natural gas. Thanks to the gathered knowledge, one devotes a chapter to the energetic and financial study of a hybrid power system supplied by biogas and made of different pieces of equipment (natural gas thermocatalitic unit, molten carbonate fuel cell and combined-cycle gas turbine structure). A parallel analysis on a bio-methane-fed CCGT system is carried out in order to compare the two solutions. Both studies show that the apparent inconvenience of the hybrid system actually emphasises the importance of extending the computations to a broader reality, i.e. the upstream processes for the biofuel production and the environmental/social drawbacks due to fossil-derived emissions. Thanks to this “boundary widening”, one can realise the hidden benefits of the hybrid over the CCGT system.

Traditional cultures of many regions of Brazil have been influenced by many sociocultural, economical, environmental and territorial changes. One of the aspects of their culture that has been changed is the artisanal production of artifacts that are used in everyday domestic and professional activities. This research analyzed the current production of this kind of artifacts in traditional communities situated at Barra do Rio Mamanguape region, Paraíba, and also investigated usage characteristics of artisanal objects in one of the local villages. These traditional practices are associated to subsistence activities developed by the local population, like agriculture, artisanal fishery, gathering, and has been influenced by a number of local and global changes. We have observed that the declining number of artisans and the extinction of some expressions of the traditional material culture are outcomes of these changes. We also verified variations in the characteristics of some artifacts that are linked to the ancient culture of Potiguaras indigenous people. We have observed the emergence of new material expressions determined by interactions between local population and the urban and industrial contexts, involving the traditional elements and maintaining their relationships with local ecosystems and biodiversity. Practices and meanings embedded in the local production of artifacts, as part of the construction of artificial world, were listed as relevant aspects to be considered in the reconfiguration process of values and practices of design, as urban and industrial activity responsible for conceiving our material culture.

This thesis deals with landscape innovation within and by the Regional Natural Parks in the Rhône-Alpes region (France). Landscape is captured as a materiality under construction negotiated along interaction processes between individuals engaged in distinct action logics. The research underlines how Regional Natural Parks’ staff invent imaginative ways to hybridize two of these action regimes (a territorial logic and a landscape one) using participatory landscape procedures. This dynamic tends to favor the territorial anchorage of the new groupings of municipalities. The originality of the thesis emerges from the adopted pragmatic posture: participatory landscape procedures are analyzed along with their own experimentation. They take on the form of an inquiry as defined by Jown Dewey, transforming worlds as well as investigators at the same time

This chapter reconstructs the fourth, fifth and sixth round of the Ṣaʿdah War whose principal feature was their enormous territorial expansion. The chapter discusses the conflict’s internal and external dynamics which began to obstruct any efforts at mediation and peace-making. Tribal feuding, the emergence of a war economy, domestic political intrigues, foreign meddling, elite conflict and the increasing sectarian character of the war contributed to the emergence of a hybrid, explosive conflict situation that hardly resembled the initial situation in 2004. As the Houthis continuously grew bolder, Saudi Arabia’s entry into the war in November 2009 provided significant relief for the Yemeni army. In February 2010, the sixth and final ‘official’ Houthi war ended in stalemate.

Résumé :
Abstract Conflict over cultural heritage has increasingly become a standard part of war. Today, systematic exploitation, manipulation, attacks, and destruction of cultural heritage by state and non-state actors form part of most violent conflicts across the world. Such acts are often intentional and based on well-planned strategies for inflicting harm on groups of people and communities. With this increasing awareness of the role cultural heritage plays in war, scholars and practitioners have progressed from seeing conflict-related destruction of cultural heritage as a cultural tragedy to understanding it as a vital national security issue. There is also a shift from the desire to protect cultural property for its own sake to viewing its protection as connected to broader agendas of peace and security. Concerns about cultural heritage have thus migrated beyond the cultural sphere to worries about the protection of civilians, the financing of terrorism, societal resilience, post-conflict reconciliation, hybrid warfare, and the geopolitics of territorial conflicts. This volume seeks to deepen public understanding of the evolving nexus between cultural heritage and security in the twenty-first century. Drawing on a variety of disciplines and perspectives, the chapters in this volume examine a complex set of relationships between the deliberate destruction and misuse of cultural heritage in times of conflict, on the one hand, and basic societal values, legal principles, and national security, on the other.

Résumé :
AbstractPeri-urban is an intermediate land. On the one hand, its hybrid nature makes it particularly vulnerable to speculation, indiscriminate use of soil resources, erosion of agricultural residues, and so on; on the other hand, it is difficult to control through planning instruments and policies. Starting from this background, the chapter will investigate the territories of the large Campania Plain, in the South of Italy, between Naples and Caserta. Until the middle of twentieth century, this territory was known as Campania Felix due to its agricultural vocation. Subsequently, a series of development policies and a misinterpreted concept of valorization and modernization of the territory have changed its characteristics and identity, giving many parts of it to disorder: industrial settlements, plants, logistics, landfills, and large infrastructures that clash with the residential, agricultural, or residual areas and in-between natural ones. In this context, the chapter summarizes the first results of a research project that aims to rethink the role of the large Industrial Development Areas, established in the peri-urban contexts of the plain in the province of Caserta, in Italy.

Résumé :
AbstractRecent international—UN-Habitat and European Environment Agency—and Italian reports have pointed out that urbanization is incessantly expanding at the expense of biodiversity and of rural lands. The radical growth of land consumption and change of land-use contribute to the increase of territorial risks and vulnerability. In particular, such phenomena are more visible within the peri-urban interface, considered as hybrid and malleable areas straddling between city and countryside realities. Even in the absence of a univocal definition, peri-urban is understood as a space where urban expansion occurs. Moreover, it emerges that such space also lacks local governance. Such uncertainty of form, identity and regulation catches the attention of a new urban agenda, which considers the peri-urban the most suitable place where to enact social, ecological and economic challenging changes. In this light, this paper aims to underline how peri-urban areas, although ecologically, socially and weak from a legislation point of view, constitute challenging territories to enact regenerative design and practices. In particular, new policies in sustainable agriculture are considered as potential solutions for the rapid soil consumption in Europe. Therefore, Campania region has been taken as our case study, because the region has a long history of agricultural practices and currently, it is closely linked to risk dynamics. It also represents an emblematic example for its innate exposure to natural hazards (related to its geological nature and geographical location), and for the ongoing man-made risks as causes of ecological and territorial damages. Moreover, land consumption in the region reached a record level in 2019, with 10% of agricultural land lost in a year (corresponding to 140,033 hectares). More than 70% of the consumed lands coincided with areas already exposed to natural hazards, both seismic and hydrogeological (Munafò, 2020). This paper assesses the results of an experimental application developed as part of the REPAiR (This research has been conducted within the framework of the European Horizon 2020 funded research “REPAiR: REsource Management in Peri-urban AReas: Going Beyond Urban Metabolism” [http://h2020repair.eu/]. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 688920. This article reflects only the author’s view. The Commission is not responsible for any use that may be made of the information it contains). Horizon 2020 European research project. We argue that the project results underline the relationship between the peri-urban interface and the soil regeneration through eco-innovative solutions. This has allowed us to link the spatial condition of the peri-urban with the production of waste and its subsequent recycle. This paper aims to further explore the research field experimented during REPAiR, expanding the materials available on the peri-urban and adding information with respect to the risk to which these places are linked.

Résumé :
This chapter investigates different new hybrid organizations like the public-private partnership in the social and solidarity economy. Different innovations are shaking the traditional borders between the economic actors, the public, the private, the profit and non-profit sectors. New form of firms emerges with several shareholders and mixed economic structure. A financial mechanism, the Social Impact Bonds, is also supported by French public authorities. New hybrid forms of innovation like Living Labs are defined as user-centered, open innovation ecosystems based on systematic user co-creation approach, where different partners (public, private…) cocreate a common solution and common value. These different forms share as common aim the general interest and better social results. The issue of governance is central to guarantee the general interest and the Commons, namely having rules and actors governing the commons together with democratic and shared participation. Thanks to a clearly shared and collaborative (Ostrom, 1990) governance, these new hybrid forms also allow for a better stimulation of the economic, social and territorial dimensions within the innovation framework. We define a new cooperative mode of governance, which completes the hybrid arrangements typology of Oliver Williamson (1991). The Living Lab example is in the line of Elinor Ostrom; it allows going beyond the tragedy of the commons. The individual interest hands over to common value. The emerging governance model is based on citizens’ involvement and guarantees success and protection of the commons.

Résumé :
The design activity that stems from knowledge of the territory to which it refers and in which it operates, if aimed at its enhancement, turns out to be the conclusion of the flow and evolution of the history and culture of the place. In this sense, the resulting artefacts, whether physical or virtual, tell the story of its evolution as individuals and as the society that inhabits it. The research intends to demonstrate how the augmented narrative capacity of digital artefacts can be applied to territorial design practices, with effective effects on the territory itself. Through the description of the peculiarities, invariants and know-how layered in the places examined, the design process has led to the definition of hybrid territory-centred artefacts aimed at the accreditation of contexts with particular historical, cultural and naturalistic value, such as that of the Umbria region, investigating the relationship between design practice and digital technology.

Résumé :
In this paper, a new robust optimization technique with the ability of solving single and multi-objective constrained design optimization problems in aerodynamics is presented. This new technique is an improved Territorial Particle Swarm Optimization (TPSO) algorithm in which diversity is actively preserved by avoiding overcrowded clusters of particles and encouraging broader exploration. Adaptively varying “territories” are formed around promising individuals to prevent many of the lesser individuals from premature clustering and encouraged them to explore new neighborhoods based on a hybrid self-social metric. Also, a new social interaction scheme is introduced which guided particles towards the weighted average of their “elite” neighbors’ best found positions instead of their own personal bests which in turn helps the particles to exploit the candidate local optima more effectively. The TPSO algorithm is developed to take into account multiple objective functions using a Pareto-Based approach. The non-dominated solutions found by swarm are stored in an external archive and nearest neighbor density estimator method is used to select a leader for the individual particles in the swarm. Efficiency and robustness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated using multiple traditional and newly-composed optimization benchmark functions and aerodynamic design problems. In final airfoil design obtained from the Multi Objective Territorial Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm, separation point is delayed to make the airfoil less susceptible to stall in high angle of attack conditions. The optimized airfoil also reveals an evident improvement over the test case airfoil across all objective functions presented.

Résumé :
The dissipation of the heat generated by electronic devices is the key issue in design and development of such products. The trend, especially in the computer industries, has been reducing the size and increasing the computing power of the electronic elements. Studies have indicated that the thermal performance of a micro-channel depends on its geometric parameters and flow conditions. Many techniques have been developed to enhance the performance of confined elliptical cylinders while minimizing the momentum loss. In this paper, a new robust optimization technique is presented. This new technique is an improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm in which diversity is actively preserved by avoiding overcrowded clusters of particles and encouraging broader exploration. Adaptively varying “territories” are formed around promising individuals to prevent many of the lesser individuals from premature clustering and encouraged them to explore new neighborhoods based on a hybrid self-social metric. Also, a new social interaction scheme is introduced which guided particles towards the weighted average of their “elite” neighbors’ best found positions instead of their own personal bests. The case study in this paper is a two dimensional incompressible flow of non-Newtonian power-law fluid over a pair of elliptical tandem cylinders confined in a channel. A new curve parameterization named Class-Shape-Refinement-Transformation method is used to modify the shape of the confined cylinders, and its control points are adopted as the design variables. Furthermore, final solutions obtained from the Territorial Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm reveal an evident improvement over the test case cylinder across all objective functions presented.

Résumé :
Materials link countless design issues we are concerned about the most nowadays: smart technology, digital/analog, user experiences, ecological environment, etc. Thanks to technological evolutions, designers are exploring new hybrid materials, which expands the contemporary design territories. The generation of new materials is due to the transdisciplinary dialogues among design, art, engineering, human-computer interaction, biotechnology, etc., but also thanks to designers' understanding, exploring, and manipulating the properties and attributes of materials in unconventional ways. The new attributes of these material innovations have the potential to subvert the conventional material selection in design, and provide inspiration for new design concepts, functions, and formal potentials. This approach, known as ‘Design with Designed Materials’, emphasises the triggering role of materials, especially for experimental design processes which link with various (artistic) research and creative methods. This paper will describe how the ‘design with designed materials’ approach contributes to new material explorations and innovations, where material can be informed by various aspects: digital, material intrinsic, or a combination of both. By action research, the paper will elaborate on which way ‘design with designed materials’ acts as a methodical approach in design research and design education. This is a transdisciplinary approach that combines the areas of drafting, known from disciplines such as architecture and design, with those of analysis, research and development of materials, which are known from engineering and materials technology. On the basis of an experimental and transdisciplinary approach, new material-based and material-induced design concepts are developed and researched, putting material at the beginning of the design process. This approach was validated in a series of teaching and designing activities, resulting in diverse design works that brought new logic to the use, exploration and transformation of materials, and the generation of design concepts. Four example projects are selected as representatives for describing four characteristics of materials design: properties, structures, interfaces and systems. This paper will share those results, bringing the insight that the new logic of materials is often beyond their original ‘inherent’ properties, which can trigger the new way of concept generations. Materials become carriers of a wide variety of information that enter into a dialogue with their environment, increasingly take on the role of the actual object and become informative and intuitive.

Résumé :
The paper outlines challenges in the governance of functional urban areas, treated as a contemporary form/nature of the city. The institutional infrastructure of that governance consists in the co-existence of the formal/legal public authorities and hybrid partnerships, composed of public, private and non-governmental organizations. The spirit of the city is being the place of meeting other people and exchange of goods, assets, ideas and values. The city forms the background for the phenomena of human life and unusual events. The city treated as a functional urban zone is affronted with complex processes resulting from various types of flows in the spatial economy. Such phenomena as metropolization, suburbanization or urban sprawl demand new approaches to the governance and to the territorial management. Metropolitan governance is a result of tensions and fractures between various territorial actors. In the functional urban zone, one can observe many colliding or juxtaposing interventions, supported by different organizations, public or non-public entities, and – finally – by creative or influential individuals. That situation has a significant imprint on the spatial structure of the city and its surroundings. The main challenge is then the creation of arenas of dialogue, which become at least as important as formal, legal regulations. The adaptive governance, depicted by E. Ostrom, then gives the useful tools for hybrid partnerships, responsible for the management and the development of urban functional zones.

Résumé :
The author characterized the Ukrainian national values, national interests and national goals. It is emphasized that national values are conceptual, ideological bases, consolidating factors, important life guidelines on the way to effective protection of Ukraine from Russian aggression and building a democratic, united Ukrainian state. Author analyzes the functioning of the mass media in the context of educational propaganda of individual, social and state values, the dominant core of which are patriotism, human rights and freedoms, social justice, material and spiritual wealth of Ukrainians, natural resources, morality, peace, religiosity, benevolence, national security, constitutional order. These key national values are a strong moral and civic core, a life-giving element, a self-affirming synergy, which on the basis of homogeneity binds the current Ukrainian society with the ancestors and their centuries-old material and spiritual heritage. Attention is focused on the fact that the current problem of building the Ukrainian state and protecting it from the brutal Moscow invaders is directly dependent on the awareness of all citizens of the essence of national values, national interests, national goals and filling them with the meaning of life, charitable socio-political life. It is emphasized that the missionary vocation of journalists to orient readers and listeners to the meaningful choice of basic national values, on the basis of which Ukrainian citizens, regardless of nationality together they will overcome the external Moscow and internal aggression of the pro-Russian fifth column, achieve peace, return the Ukrainian territories seized by the Kremlin imperialists and, in agreement will build Ukrainian Ukraine.
