Résumé :
This study focuses on the coverage of environmental threats in the German-language media. The methodology of this study is based on the ecolinguistic approach, particularly the achievements of media ecology, identifying the harmonization of the media space as a priority for journalism and a relevant area for linguistic studies. The German-language media focuses on the environmental challenges caused by the war in Ukraine, the threat of imminent climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The effectiveness of their media presentation by the lexical and stylistic means is becoming relevant for linguistic research. The anthropocentric worldview of the human being causes a significant manipulative effect of anthropomorphic metaphor on the reader and helps to promote a conscious attitude to the environment. The distinguished models of metaphor and metonymy, used to increase the emotional plane of the described content, indicate the possibility of their use as a tool for awakening ecolinguistic consciousness. The socio- and psycholinguistic experiment determined the peculiarities of the German-speaking respondents' reception of publications on environmental issues. Representatives of the younger generation (mostly students) were interviewed, which allowed forming an idea of their interest in overcoming ecological problems and finding out popular sources of information about them. The impossibility of an immediate comprehensive expert assessment of the consequences of the war in Ukraine for all ecosystems determines further research into the means of media attention to this issue.

Résumé :
The presence of Javanese pop music on social media is an interesting phenomenon to study. This phenomenon illustrates that there is a cultural transformation in society. To explore this, the researcher conducted a study using the audience reception analysis method to find out how the construction of people's meanings of the Pop Javanese phenomenon on social media, how they think the role of social media in the transformation of music that is happening and in-depth interviews with local Pop Jawa musicians, Den Juang, regarding their motives and goals for popularizing this music through social media. The data findings show that media ecology theory negates the concept of mass culture or popular culture in cultural studies. The point of emphasis in cultural studies focuses on the view that the media is a place of cultural production. Thus, there is a process of hegemony that leads to the common sense of society to accept the general "truth" spread through the media. However, the facts on the ground support the thinking of media ecology theory, which indeed looks at the development of media as a message of transformation of human civilization without being balanced with more depth and understanding of the messages conveyed.

Résumé :
Human loves comfort. Throughout the history of his existence, he transforms the environment for his comfort. As a result, we live in the Anthropocene epoch, in which Homo sapience impacts the planet's geological processes. Maintaining an ecological balance is vital for the human race’s survival. One of the ways to organize a well-balanced urban environment is to analyze the way how the public communicates this problem, paying attention to the specific circumstances of a particular place. The methodology of the electronic sociological survey was used, as well as work with Google Trends to analyze the popularity of search queries on environmental issues in Almaty. This article, on the basis of an interdisciplinary study, analyzed the formation and development of the mass media discourse on urban ecologization in Almaty. The paper concludes that the ecological discourse form not only the main vector of the media content but also ecological consciousness since the greening of cities is impossible without the development of the ecology culture and ecology thinking.

Résumé :
Urban renewal urgently needs to find a new media tool to extensively promote public participation. Professionals also need strong and powerful communication tools for the public. Mass media has the ability to influence human perceptions and behaviors, but its role has been overlooked. This study aims to arouse professionals’ attention to mass media and promote interdisciplinary cooperation through empirical evidence. By observing the performance of participatory urban gardening projects in Chinese newspapers, we highlight the positive effect of mass media on participatory landscape revitalization. We selected two projects in China as samples, collected newspaper reports on them during 2017–2021, and analyzed the textual framing and report communication based on communication theory. According to the result, mass media has four positive effects that not only affect the public but also contribute to participatory landscape revitalization development. Based on the results, we discuss the consistence of views of the mass media and landscape architecture. This study suggests that landscape architecture needs to actively collaborate with public media to better leverage the role of landscape in sustainable urban transformation.

Résumé :
The mass media in the sphere of work include the production of information, communication, and the creation of public opinion in all areas of social life, including the areas that belong to the social and natural sciences, where ecology also belongs. They have become the basis for initiating social action in the field of environmental protection, which is necessary for the existence of raised ecological awareness, which is also expressed through knowledge about the threat to the balance in biodiversity and nature. The protection and preservation of biodiversity, as a significant part of the human environment, deserves more attention from the mass media, but also from the members of a social community. A modern man lives in an era of information abundance. It on many occasions disorients the modern consumer. For these reasons, a person, who already lives in a kind of "new media order", is recommended to adopt fundamental knowledge about the so-called media literacy, as well as biodiversity protection. This paper considers how the mass media should influence the raising of environmental awareness in the field of biodiversity conservation, taking into account all the dynamics and drama of information technology development and emerging forms of environmental and biodiversity threats.

Résumé :
Abstract At the modern stage of society’s development, ecology is seen as a complex, interdisciplinary science of the relationships of organisms, society and the environment. Ecology is a science that studies the regularities of the life of organisms in their natural living environment and taking into account the changes made in this environment as a result of human activity. In recent years, the mass media has been constantly talking and writing about ecology, environmental problems related to anthropogenic activity. The person with his activity is heavily polluted and continues to negatively affect the environment at increasing rates. This reckless behavior of humans and the whole of society threatens planet Earth with imminent doom, no less than the use of nuclear weapons. Only from the positions of modern science ecology is it possible to develop issues related to the prudent use of the natural resources of the biosphere and the fight against changes brought about in nature by human activity in the age of the scientific and technical revolution. For this reason, it is necessary to seek information and a solution to the key current problems: What are the main pollutants of the atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere? What is the origin of these substances? How does their impact affect life on Earth? What approaches and methods are needed to prevent environmental pollution?

Résumé :
New interpretation models are necessary to address the human dimensions of ecosystem management goals. A model focusing on audience characteristics guided the development of an ecosystem management interpretive program targeting military leaders and planners at Eglin Air Force Base in northwest Florida. Interpretive objectives and content areas were established with input from natural resource managers and data from baseline surveys of military decision makers. Key content areas for the interpretive program were (a) native and endangered species, (b) fire ecology, (c) ecosystems, and (d) forest resources and habitats. Interpretive media tested included print mass media, a color poster, golf course signs, a series of color brochures with a participatory component, and a video. Evaluative surveys showed significantly improved knowledge and attitudes in several content areas despite a high turnover of individuals in the target populations. Mass media were the most successful interpretive approach tested, resulting in increased knowledge and enhanced attitudes for both leaders and planners. Interpretive signs on the Eglin AFB golf course, targeting military leaders who reported golf as their main outdoor activity, were successful in improving knowledge of ecosystems and attitudes toward prescribed fire. Audience monitoring provides continued feedback for the interpretive program. These findings suggest that a model of interpretation focusing on audience attributes rather than site characteristics is useful for designing effective programs.

Résumé :
Abstract This study delves into the dynamics of popularity as a crucial aspect of population dynamics, drawing from ecology and social science literature. The focus is on constructing an accurate model for understanding the spread of novelty, memes, and influences within human society, particularly through online platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, and Amazon. Traditional models, based on logistic and similar nonlinear differential equations, have shown limitations in long-term prediction accuracy, partially due to unexplained deviations. Recent research suggests the significance of long-term memory effects on popularity, characterized by a power-law response function, a phenomenon particularly evident in the realm of online mass media. Our research analyzes the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a comprehensive dataset of music popularity spanning several decades, to examine these dynamics. By integrating logistic growth with a power-law decaying long-term memory model, we demonstrate that the trajectory of popularity rankings is predominantly influenced by initial popularity levels and the strength of memory effects. Our findings reveal the pivotal role of long-term memory and the extent of initial popularity in shaping popularity dynamics over time. The study underscores the impact of mass media evolution and the differential effects of spreading mechanisms and accumulated popularity on these dynamics, particularly when long-term memory is a factor. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of the mechanisms driving popularity and its long-term trends in the digital age.

Résumé :
Advertising can be said to have become one of the media to convey various messages aimed at certain people because of its broad nature and covering various groups because of the ease of access to view it. PT. Chevron, one of the companies engaged in the oil and gas sector, is also aware of the effects of one of these mass media. Therefore, PT. Chevron also uses advertising media to display its corporate advertisement version of "We Agree" which in 2016 was broadcast through various television media. This study uses a qualitative method with a semiotic approach by Roland Barthes as a tool for analyzing various signs so as to form denotative, connotative and mythical meanings contained in the advertisement. This analysis also criticizes a dilemma faced by companies related to ecology. In Roland Barthes' semiotic perspective, the researcher found various meanings contained in the advertisement, namely Chevron gives a picture of progress in a society, namely if that civilization has various tall buildings that tower as a form of progress of the times, even though several other countries have proven that reforestation is also is one of the markers of the progress of a society. However, this does not change the fact that Chevron is a company that contributes to the economy and human empowerment which then makes Chevron one of the foreign companies in Indonesia that also pays attention to the development of the Indonesian State.

Résumé :
The article substantiates the role of religious organizations in the protection of human environmental rights, analyzes their activities, and determines the methods of legal regulation of their participation in the environmental policy of the state. It was noted that the participation of religious organizations in the protection of environmental human rights should be considered primarily in three aspects: reflection of environmental issues in social doctrines (if adopted) and other theoretical developments of religious organizations; functioning in the structure of religious organizations of special institutions dealing with issues of environmental protection; implementation of environmental events by religious organizations. The participation of religious organizations in the protection of human environmental rights consists in the implementation of the main task - "ecological conversion", the constituent elements of which should be the formation of an internal instruction to protect the creature-nature, as well as proper knowledge of how this preservation can be practically implemented. The means of implementing this task are as follows: dissemination of the official teachings of religious organizations regarding ecology; consolidation of the efforts of religious organizations, scientific and educational institutions, state and public organizations in solving local, national, regional and global problems of nature conservation and ensuring the ecological safety of mankind; consulting, organizing and conducting public and scientific events dedicated to environmental issues; dissemination of appeals/appeals of religious leaders regarding environmental issues in religious and secular mass media; translation of relevant literature, etc.

The research is aimed at substantiating the system of biomonitoring of the total chemical load and assessing the impact of ecotoxicants on the health of the personnel and population living close to chemically hazardous enterprises, including therapeutic and preventive use of specialized functional nutrition. The proposed system of environmental monitoring of heavy metal salt pollution and its consequences for the health of the population of industrially developed territories implies creating a single methodological basis for determining the mass concentrations of heavy metals, their organic complexes and salts in the air, water, soil and food raw materials, as well as human biological media; identifying high risk groups among chemical enterprises staff and local population by revealing heavy metals in human blood and urine using standard samples of biological media; using specialized functional food designed aimed at the reduction of negative symptoms of disorders of internal ecology in a person. A methodology has been developed to form high-risk groups among the personnel of industrial enterprises exposed to the most dangerous pollutants of the industrial environment, and residents of industrially developed territories. We substantiate the choice of biological media, analytical research methods and criteria for assessing the risks of diseases caused by constant exposure to ecotoxicants. State standard samples of biological media (blood, urine) containing standard reference concentrations of heavy metal salts have been developed and certified. Standard blood samples containing metals are certified as interstate within the CIS. For residents of agricultural territories, we suggest determining the presence of pesticides and blue-green algae toxins as the most significant water pollutants. Growing collections of mass spectra for the identification of agrochemical ecotoxicants have been developed.

The Coronavirus pandemic saw a lockdown in the country. With the factories and workplaces shut down, many migrants in different cities of the country are stranded. The migrant workers were left with no livelihood. Many people traveling was stuck at stations or state. Amidst many other crises that the current pandemic situation brought about, the migrant exodus seen nationwide in India was an unprecedented crisis. Indian media covered this migrant crisis extensively through write-ups and photographs. This paper attempts to analyse the photographs covering the migrant crisis. Two hundred two photos published by Indian media houses were analysed for stylistic framing and visual patterns. More than 3000 migrants from north-central India were daily wagers and the workers majorly suffered. The extensive media coverage of the mass movements of the migrants has ensured that the crisis is seen, heard, and felt. The study found that the most dominant frames were human interest frames, and they highlighted human suffering, grief, and misery. This paper tries to see how Indian media has visually framed the migrant crisis during the COVID-19 lockdown in India.

Résumé :
The article describes the importance and relevance of the concept of "language ecology". The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that it is the first to study the problems of ecolinguistics of the Polish and Ukrainian languages in a comparative aspect. The nature and extent of the impact of modern society and its culture on the Polish and Ukrainian languages is clarified, and the influence of language on human behaviour and thinking is outlined. The article analyses the terms that are closely related in meaning - ecology of language, ecology of thinking, ecology of culture, ecology of the soul, etc. The etymology of the word ecology, consisting of two Greek lexemes, is considered: οἶκος (environment, house, dwelling) and λόγος (doctrine, science, word, concept, thought). In this regard, it is argued that the word ecology means not only the relationship between the organism and the environment, but also the environment of the word (ecology of the word), the environment of thought (ecology of thinking). The ecology of the human soul and the entire nation depends on what this environment will be like. It was found that today's Ukrainian and Polish linguistic environment is characterised by such general negative processes as primitivisation of speech, scarcity of linguistic means for expressing one's own thoughts, dominance of English-language elements, barbarisms, and vulgarisms. The article analyses some negative poems for children by M. Karasyov from The Naturalist's ABC. It is argued that despite the fact that from the linguistic point of view the author does not deviate from the literary norm, does not use profanity and vulgarities, he still promotes permissiveness and immorality, and therefore The Naturalist's ABC is a vivid example of violation of the cultural ecology and spoils the linguistic taste. There is an active process of penetration of not only English words but also Anglo-American cultural realities (Halloween celebrations, etc.) into Slavic languages. It is noted that abbreviations and simplifications in Polish and Ukrainian are most often used in youth slang. Examples of abbreviated formulas of the so-called "computer politeness" are given, which is characterised by the uncritical use of English words. The reasons for the spread of the simplified version of the language are the general trends of modern consumer culture, the processes of globalisation in society, and the fashion for the use of foreign elements in the language. The primitivisation of language is linked to the primitivisation of culture. Low-grade films and literature, the yellow press, and the mass media spread vulgarisms, barbarisms, numerous (often unnecessary) borrowings from the English language, and abbreviations. It is argued that the linguistic environment affects the moral state and spiritual ecology of a person, and effective methods of purifying the ecology of the soul are involvement in high creativity and art. Taking care of the linguistic ecology, native speakers should take care of preserving the national spiritual and artistic heritage of their people. The article makes the conclusion that in order to improve the ecology of the literary language (both Polish and Ukrainian), it is necessary to take care of the education of linguistic taste of modern speakers, which is a condition for the appropriate use of linguistic means, to promote and disseminate moral norms and ideals, traditional national heritage, aesthetics of expression, and high linguistic culture. Key words: ecology, ecology of language, permissiveness, fashion, language norm, anglicisms, vulgarisms, abbreviations.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Ergot alkaloids are mycotoxins that interact with several monoamine receptors, negatively affecting cardiovascular, nervous, reproductive, and immune systems of exposed humans and animals. Aspergillus fumigatus, a common airborne fungus and opportunistic human pathogen, can produce ergot alkaloids in broth culture. The objectives of this study were to determine if A. fumigatus accumulates ergot alkaloids in a respirable form in or on its conidia, to quantify ergot alkaloids associated with conidia produced on several different substrates, and to measure relevant physical properties of the conidia. We found at least four ergot alkaloids, fumigaclavine C, festuclavine, fumigaclavine A, and fumigaclavine B (in order of abundance), associated with conidia of A. fumigatus. Under environmentally relevant conditions, the total mass of ergot alkaloids often constituted >1% of the mass of the conidium. Ergot alkaloids were extracted from conidia produced on all media tested, and the greatest quantities were observed when the fungus was cultured on latex paint or cultured maize seedlings. The values for physical properties of conidia likely to affect their respirability (i.e., diameter, mass, and specific gravity) were significantly lower for A. fumigatus than for Aspergillus nidulans, Aspergillus niger, and Stachybotrys chartarum. The demonstration of relatively high concentrations of ergot alkaloids associated with conidia of A. fumigatus presents opportunities for investigations of potential contributions of the toxins to adverse health effects associated with the fungus and to aspects of the biology of the fungus that contribute to its success.

Résumé :
Modern meteorology is a very practical science necessary for social life. Most meteorologists model weather and climate forecasts, while others work for government and military organizations as well as private companies, providing forecasts for aviation, navigation, agriculture, construction, and radio and television broadcasting. In many countries, meteorology is often called "atmospheric physics", and ordinary meteorologists deal more with complex mathematical formulas and calculations that model physical and physico-chemical processes in the Earth's atmosphere. However, since the latter is closely related to all other envelopes, the work of meteorologists also has a distinct geographic element, since only geography needs to be taken into account for weather forecasting and modeling of atmospheric processes. In addition, the conditions of the atmosphere and the processes that take place in it differ in different parts of the globe due to geographic patterns (regions, altitude bands, etc.). Long-term weather conditions in a certain area are called climate. So, climatology is a science that studies such issues as climate formation, description and classification of the global climate, and the impact of human activity on the climate. By its nature, it is more closely related to other geographical disciplines. Modern research in the field of meteorology and climatology is at the center of mass media reports, as it sheds light on the future of our planet and life on it in light of actual and potential climate change. This is their mission today. they can only answer questions posed as elements of the system of geographic science. The article contains basic provisions on the environment, aspects of life in various regions, especially natural areas and objects subject to special protection. The work on environmental impact assessment is characterized. The article covers some issues of human bioclimatology, synrheological effects of individual meteorological variables and atmospheric factors and methods of assessing the complex impact of weather on the human body. The influence of climate warming on the health of the population and adaptation to climate change in Ukraine are mentioned.

Résumé :
The wastewater from hospitals, pharmaceutical industries and more generally human and animal dejections leads to environmental releases of antibiotics that cause severe problems for all living organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate the capacity of three fungal strains to biotransform the fluoroquinolone levofloxacin. The degradation processes were analyzed in solid and liquid media. Among the three fungal strains tested, Coriolopsis gallica strain CLBE55 (BRFM 3473) showed the highest removal efficiency, with a 15% decrease in antibiogram zone of inhibition for Escherichia coli cultured in solid medium and 25% degradation of the antibiotic in liquid medium based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Proteomic analysis suggested that laccases and dye-decolorizing peroxidases such as extracellular enzymes could be involved in levofloxacin degradation, with a putative major role for laccases. Degradation products were proposed based on mass spectrometry analysis, and annotation suggested that the main product of biotransformation of levofloxacin by Coriolopsis gallica is an N-oxidized derivative.

Résumé :
Abstract BACKGROUND Increased expression of fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is characteristic for several cancer types including human glioblastomas (GBM). FAP is expressed on both cancer as well as stromal cells which were demonstrated in extracranial tumors to maintain a microenvironment permissive for tumor growth and thus to contribute to tumor progression. FAP is considered a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target and several approaches for its targeting have been recently developed. In this work, we investigated the role of FAP+ stromal cells in glioblastoma angiogenesis. MATERIAL AND METHODS Expression of FAP and other phenotypic markers was assessed by immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry. FAP+ stromal cells and primary microvascular endothelial cells were isolated using magnetic activated cell sorting (MACS). Genetic aberrations were assayed by comparative genomic hybridization/single-nucleotide polymorphism analysis. Angiogenesis was evaluated using a 3D spheroid-based sprouting assay and a chorioallantoic membrane assay. A cytokine array was used to analyze soluble mediators released by FAP+ stromal cells. RESULTS FAP+ stromal cells were predominantly localized around activated CD105+ endothelial cells and their quantity positively correlated with glioblastoma vascularization. FAP+ stromal cells derived from human GBMs had a mesenchymal phenotype, were non-tumorigenic and in most cases lacked cytogenetic aberrations characteristic of GBMs. Conditioned media derived from FAP+ stromal cells induced angiogenic sprouting of both macrovascular HUVEC as well as microvascular primary endothelial cells derived from human GBMs. In a chorioallantoic membrane assay, admixture of FAP+ stromal cells to glioma cells was associated with increased angiogenesis and more frequent occurrence of hemorrhages. Cytokine array revealed a significant disbalance between several proangiogenic and antiangiogenic mediators compared to normal pericytes, and an increased Angiopoietin 2/1 ratio in conditioned media from FAP+ stromal cells. CONCLUSION Our results bring new evidence that GBM associated FAP+ stromal cell promote angiogenesis by changing the balance between proangiogenic and antiangiogenic mediators and thus they may contribute to glioblastoma progression. Résumé :
AbstractScientific evidence suggests that emotions affect actual human decision-making, particularly in highly emotionally situations such as human-wildlife interactions. In this study we assess the role of fear on preferences for wildlife conservation, using a discrete choice experiment. The sample was split into two treatment groups and a control. In the treatment groups the emotion of fear towards wildlife was manipulated using two different pictures of a wolf, one fearful and one reassuring, which were presented to respondents during the experiment. Results were different for the two treatments. The assurance treatment lead to higher preferences and willingness to pay for the wolf, compared to the fear treatment and the control, for several population sizes. On the other hand, the impact of the fear treatment was lower than expected and only significant for large populations of wolves, in excess of 50 specimen. Overall, the study suggests that emotional choices may represent a source of concern for the assessment of stable preferences. The impact of emotional choices is likely to be greater in situations where a wildlife-related topic is highly emphasized, positively or negatively, by social networks, mass media, and opinion leaders. When stated preferences towards wildlife are affected by the emotional state of fear due to contextual external stimuli, welfare analysis does not reflect stable individual preferences and may lead to sub-optimal conservation policies. Therefore, while more research is recommended for a more accurate assessment, it is advised to control the decision context during surveys for potential emotional choices.

Résumé :
This review essay looks at two recent publications which represent a critical mass in the fields of literary and urban ecology, at once drawing on classical ecocritical notions of “space” and “place” as well as signaling new directions for future work. Their mutual emphasis on the interconnected nature of the place-world not only offers new ways of thinking about how places are connected to each other, but also how natural, cultural, social and scientific processes constantly interact to make and re-make the landscapes in which we live. Thereby, their focus on human habitats and built environments is a timely addition to a debate that is still very much focused on “natural” landscapes and helps to reflect on the way in which concepts like “nature”, “country”, or “wilderness” are not only culturally mediated, but also constructed with the contrasting image of the “city” in mind. Both books illustrate in a number of close readings how literary texts influence our spatial perceptions and mediate our experiences within an (urban) environment, showing how creative processes of the mind constantly interrelate with our (non-)human worlds.

Human activities are at the origin of anthropogenic threats altering ecosystems at any hierarchical level. To mitigate them, environmental managers develop projects to obtain effective outcomes on biological targets of conservation concern. Here, we carried out two new approaches (TAN = Threat Analysis and TRA = Threat Reduction Assessment) aimed at assessing the effectiveness of conservation actions on two threatened beach-nesting landbird species, the Kentish Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus) and the Little Ringed Plover (C. dubius), breeding along a coastal beach of central Italy. Using a score-based evaluation (TAN approach), a panel of experts assessed the extent, intensity, and magnitude of a set of species-specific threats, ranking them from more to less impacting. Domestic dogs, dune trampling, and synanthropic predators appeared as the threats with the most significant magnitudes. Using the TRA approach, experts obtained a rank of threats that were more urgent to solve: i.e., domestic dogs and dune trampling. To contrast with these threats, in 2021, we carried out a conservation project with specific measures that were aimed at reducing the threat magnitude on birds. They included: dune borders demarcation, anti-predatory cages on plover nests, the removal of beach-stranded fishing lines and hooks, field surveillance by volunteers, dog control, social- and mass-media communication, and alliances with stakeholders and institutions. After the project, mechanical beach grooming (>80%), dune trampling, and synanthropic predators (both >60%) showed the highest percentage of impact reduction. The project showed a medium–high level of effectiveness in reducing the total threat magnitude (TRA-I index = 63.08%). The Threat Analysis should be routinely used to arrange a causal chain that is useful for defining the relationships among human-induced threats and ecological targets, selecting the threats with the highest magnitudes. After the projects, the Threat Reduction Assessment may assess the level of threat reduction, suggesting measures for adaptive management.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Cylindrospermopsin is a cytotoxin produced by Cylindrospermopsis raciborskii and other cyanobacteria that has been implicated in human intoxications. We report here the complete sequence of the gene cluster responsible for the biosynthesis of this toxin in Oscillatoria sp. strain PCC 6506. This cluster of genes was found to be homologous with that of C. raciborskii but with a different gene organization. Using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and an optimized liquid chromatography analytical method coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, we detected 7-epicylindrospermopsin, cylindrospermopsin, and 7-deoxycylindrospermopsin in the culture medium of axenic Oscillatoria PCC 6506 at the following relative concentrations: 68.6%, 30.2%, and 1.2%, respectively. We measured the intracellular and extracellular concentrations, per mg of dried cells of Oscillatoria PCC 6506, of 7-epicylindrospermopsin (0.18 μg/mg and 0.29 μg/mg, respectively) and cylindrospermopsin (0.10 μg/mg and 0.11 μg/mg, respectively). We showed that these two toxins accumulated in the culture medium of Oscillatoria PCC 6506 but that the ratio (2.5 0.3) was constant with 7-epicylindrospermopsin being the major metabolite. We also determined the concentrations of these toxins in culture media of other Oscillatoria strains, PCC 6407, PCC 6602, PCC 7926, and PCC 10702, and found that, except for PCC 6602, they all produced 7-epicylindrospermopsin and cylindrospermopsin, with the former being the major toxin, except for PCC 7926, which produced very little 7-epicylindrospermopsin. All the cylindrospermopsin producers studied gave a PCR product using specific primers for the amplification of the cyrJ gene from genomic DNA.

Résumé :
Himantoglossum affine is a threatened terrestrial orchid. We aimed to optimize asymbiotic seed germination and direct embryogenesis and to analyze the phytochemical profile and physico-biochemical analysis of leaf and tuber. The individual use of organic nitrogen compounds resulted in higher germination efficiencies, while the shortest times to germination were observed using coconut water plus casein hydrolysate. Plantlets grown on media supplemented with pineapple juice and peptone had the highest plantlet length and weight. For embryogenesis, the highest regeneration rate (44%) and embryo number/explant (10.12 ± 2.08) were observed in young protocorm-like body (PLB) explants with 0.5 mg/L naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and 1 mg/L thidiazuron (TDZ). During the acclimatization process, the scattered vascular tubes converted to fully developed vascular tissues, ensuring maximum sap flux. Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis identified 1,2,3-propanetriol, monoacetate, 4H-pyran-4-one, 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl, and 2-butenedioic acid, 2-methyl-, (E)- as the most prevalent compounds. We reported higher contents of total phenolics and flavonoids and antioxidant activity compared to other terrestrial orchids. The glucomannan content (36.96%) was also higher than starch content (31.31%), comparable to those reported in other tuberous orchids. Based on the fragmentation of H. affine populations in the Middle East and Euro-Mediterranean countries due to over-harvesting, climate change, and/or human impact, our procedure offers a tool for the re-introduction of in vitro-raised plants to threatened areas.

Résumé :
Ras is a key switch controlling cell behavior. In the GTP-bound form, Ras interacts with numerous effectors in a mutually exclusive manner, where individual Ras–effectors are likely part of larger cellular (sub)complexes. The molecular details of these (sub)complexes and their alteration in specific contexts are not understood. Focusing on KRAS, we performed affinity purification (AP)–mass spectrometry (MS) experiments of exogenously expressed FLAG-KRAS WT and three oncogenic mutants (“genetic contexts”) in the human Caco-2 cell line, each exposed to 11 different culture media (“culture contexts”) that mimic conditions relevant in the colon and colorectal cancer. We identified four effectors present in complex with KRAS in all genetic and growth contexts (“context-general effectors”). Seven effectors are found in KRAS complexes in only some contexts (“context-specific effectors”). Analyzing all interactors in complex with KRAS per condition, we find that the culture contexts had a larger impact on interaction rewiring than genetic contexts. We investigated how changes in the interactome impact functional outcomes and created a Shiny app for interactive visualization. We validated some of the functional differences in metabolism and proliferation. Finally, we used networks to evaluate how KRAS–effectors are involved in the modulation of functions by random walk analyses of effector-mediated (sub)complexes. Altogether, our work shows the impact of environmental contexts on network rewiring, which provides insights into tissue-specific signaling mechanisms. This may also explain why KRAS oncogenic mutants may be causing cancer only in specific tissues despite KRAS being expressed in most cells and tissues.

ABSTRACTListeria monocytogenesserotype 4b is a food-borne pathogen of public health concern, since it accounts for approximately 40% of human listeriosis cases. We have recently identified IspC, a surface-localized peptidoglycan hydrolase, as the antigen recognized by a number of monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) produced against a serotype 4b strain for diagnostic applications. To determine whether IspC, which is well conserved among various serotype 4b strains, is a useful diagnostic marker in antibody-based methods, we assessed the expression of IspC inL. monocytogenescultured under normal and stress conditions. A functional promoter directing the transcription of theispCgene was identified upstream of theispCopen reading frame by constructing a promoterlesslacZgene fusion with the putativeispCpromoter region and by 5′ rapid amplification of cDNA ends analysis. Using both thelacZreporter gene system and immunofluorescent staining with an IspC-specific MAb, we provide evidence that IspC is expressed on the cell surface in all growth conditions tested (temperature, osmotic stress, pH, ethanol, oxidative stress, anaerobic conditions, carbon source, and type of growth media) that allow for cellular division, although the level ofispCgene expression varies. These results demonstrated the usefulness of IspC as an excellent diagnostic marker for the serotype 4b strains and imply that IspC, in conjunction with specific MAbs, can be targeted for detection and isolation ofL. monocytogenesserotype 4b strains directly from food, environmental, and clinical samples with minimal or no need for culture enrichment.

Résumé :
Abstract. Forest environments contain a wide variety of airborne biological particles (bioaerosols), including pollen, fungal spores, bacteria, viruses, plant detritus, and soil particles. Forest bioaerosol plays a number of important roles related to plant and livestock health, human disease and allergenicity, and forest and wider ecology and are thought to influence biosphere–atmosphere interactions via warm and cold cloud formation. Despite the importance of bioaerosols, there are few measurements of forest aerosol, and there is a lack of understanding of how climate change will affect forest bioaerosol in the future. We installed low-cost optical particle counters (OPCs) to measure particles in the size range between 1 and 10 µm (PM10–PM1) for a period of 2 months in autumn 2018 at the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research (BIFoR) free-air carbon dioxide enrichment (FACE) facility. In the paper, we propose that the PM10–PM1 (particulate matter) metric is a good proxy for bioaerosols because of the bioaerosol representative size range, the location of the study site (a woodland in a rural location), the field measurement taking place during the season of peak fungal activity, and the low hygroscopicity of the particles measured. The BIFoR FACE facility fumigates three 700 m2 areas of the forest with an additional 150 ppm CO2 above ambient levels with minimal impacts on other potential environmental drivers such as temperature, humidity, and wind. This experimental set-up enabled us to investigate the effect of environmental variables, including elevated CO2 (eCO2), on bioaerosol proxy concentrations and to evaluate the performance of the low-cost OPCs in a forested environment. Operating the low-cost OPCs during autumn 2018, we aimed to capture predominantly the fungal bioaerosol season. Across the experimental duration, the OPCs captured both temporal and spatial variation in bioaerosol concentrations. Aerosol concentrations were affected by changing temperatures and wind speeds but, contrary to our initial hypothesis, not by relative humidity. We detected no effect of the eCO2 treatment on total bioaerosol concentrations, but a potential suppression of high-concentration bioaerosol events was detected under eCO2. In-canopy atmospheric dispersion modelling indicates that the median spore dispersion distance is sufficiently small that there is little mixing between treatment and control experiments. Our data demonstrate the suitability of low-cost OPCs, interpreted with due caution, for use in forests and so opens the possibility of forest bioaerosol monitoring in a wider range of habitats to a wider range of researchers at a modest cost.

Résumé :
Reflections on the Unsustainability of Touristic Activities in Rural and Natural Spaces: The Cases of Ecotourism and Deep Ecology Even when practiced under new, and allegedly sustainable modalities (as with the case of Ecotourism), touristic activities in the rural and natural spaces of developing countries always suppose the introduction of capitalistic socio-economic relationships, and never the overcoming of these countries’ poverty or the abandonment of their traditional dependency on the dominant countries. Currently, capitalism follows two basic strategic lines with regard to the touristic exploitation of natural resources in developing countries, according to whether, or not, it includes the participation of the peasantry. In the first of these cases, termed Ecotourism, the peasants are driven from their land, but included in a shared management of the landscape's resources. The second is based on the theory of conservationism and on the concept of deep ecology (landscapes without human beings) and consists of the control of the natural areas by capital, without the intervention of peasants, or even of human beings at all. Recently, the ideology of sustainable development, applied to tourism and other economic activities, has been widely promoted by the mass media. Indeed, it can be said that most people easily assume that ecotourism is a beneficial activity that can help local economies in impoverished countries overcome underdevelopment. In ecotourist projects, nature is exploited, sold and consumed, as part of the usual practice for competitive market economies which have, as a fundamental feature, the mistaking of price for value. In this kind of project, it is pretended that certain environments (forests, lakes, beaches, mountains) or their fauna and flora are protected, but in practice these are merely preserved for the rich. Hence, it becomes normal to pay, and pay high prices, for the right to enjoy preserved nature. Through ecotourism, nature becomes a consumer good. Places of leisure are sold and consumed as exchange values, as with other merchandise. The true emancipation of the peasantry, and of the indigenous peoples of these areas of the developing countries does not lie in ecotourism. Instead, it lies in struggles for the land and its fair distribution. There also exist projects which do not include the presence of peasants or any other local people. In these, capital fosters deep ecology and conservationism to control and exploit the resources of natural areas without human intervention. A vision of the human being as necessarily destructive of nature is the ideological foundation of such projects. The environmental services industry generates millions of dollars around the world. Economic, strategic and geopolitical interests linked to this activity proliferate. The major beneficiaries are the big international banks and the most powerful transnational corporations of this sector. Be it conventional, or allegedly sustainable, tourism will never bring modernization to the dependent countries. The origin of the problems and oppression of the peasantry lie in an unjust distribution of landed property. As long as authentic agrarian reform is avoided, peasants in the peripheral countries will continue to be impoverished. Tourism provides capital and states with arguments that hide the true and essential problems of rural areas. Emphasizing the necessity to diversify rural economies by means of the introduction of touristic activities, capital and the state hide the true and essential problems of rural areas. Tourism, be it conventional or not, will never bring modernization to the dependent countries. The origin of the problems and oppression of the peasantry lie in an unjust distribution of landed property. As long as authentic agrarian reform is avoided, peasants in the peripheral countries will continue to be impoverished.

The media have a strong influence on public life in general, as well as on moral and socio-psychological image of every member of society in particular because any new information, broadcasted by media, directs in a certain way and contains repeated stereotypes of political orientations and values, self-reinforcing in the minds of individuals. Mass media has a powerful impact on the consciousness of every member of society, and is an effective influence on emotions of the individual, means of operative delivery of the selected information in different “territorial nooks” of any regions of the planet. The most demonstrative example is electronic media. Today, the impact of the media on the individual has increased much more. The Internet and television dominate other media in terms of impact; they have become the life of almost every family.

Curiosity is an important and important quality of human nature, on the basis of which spiritual and material development of human has been possible, whatever difference or development or change we have been feeling in the journey from the beginning to modernity and perhaps will continue . Curious nature has a special place behind them all. This applies to all regions of the world as well as language. If we look at the attention of Hindi literature, then we see many changes in the history of its nearly 2000 years. Language continued to act as a medium of mass communication and continues to the day. But due to technical education, along with language, many such technical tools have been added, due to which the language seems to be paralyzed today. The change of time between 1980 and 2000 shook the smallest world. The effect of which was also certain on India. This effect has also taken the language in its grip. Today, without these tools and tools, language is inanimate. Its development, its spread seems to be stagnant. Today language technicians are using equipment and equipment is taking help of language. The information from these two mails reaches from one corner of the world to the other in a blink of an eye. The era of globalization has complemented these two.

Résumé :
This article deals with general and specific aspects of how Romanian media covered the African swine flu crisis between 2014 and 2018. The analysis was mainly based on the available ground of media framing theory. The mediatic tone of reporting the African swine flu predicament complies with the pre-crisis, crisis, and post-crisis stages, as identified in the literature. Concerning the Romanian media approach on the African swine flu subject, the economic consequences and the mediatic leadership frames proved to be strongly related to similar inter-human and zoonotic diseases. The Romanian coverage of epizootics' main frames indicates a detached approach to the subject with exciting variations regarding the connections between information units and the general norms of mediatic content. This research suggests a few remarkable aspects that hint at current changes in the journalistic paradigm and the need to acknowledge crisis communication's significance when dealing with epizootic diseases.

Abstract The responsibility of informing the general public about disease clusters belongs to health investigators. In the majority of instances the investigators must send their messages through the mass media. The authors analyzed nightly network television news coverage of disease clusters during the period 1978–1987, and newspaper coverage of four disease clusters. Formal content analysis of about 600 stories showed that the mass media focuses on human interest, conflicting information, blame, and political symbolism in their coverage of clustered health events. The authors offer suggestions to health practitioners about improving their communications with journalists.

Résumé :
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of global goals targeting all levels: from a planetary biosphere to a local community. The aim is to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people can enjoy peace and prosperity, now and in the future. The beginning of the Twenty-first century and the last fifteen years of the twentieth century have been the awakening of human consciousness when it comes to ecology and environmental protection. The man of the digital age is slowly becoming aware that a new society is a life-organization characterized by the use of modern technologies and overuse of natural resources and, in some places, already devastated and degraded environments. The modern economy survives on the use of living and inanimate natural resources. Natural resources such as air, water, soil are polluted and some animal species are exterminated in this period. For this reason, it is of great importance to force producing and broadcasting numerous environmental shows on local, regional and global media. Going deeper into the issue, we have to see that the problem should be addressed more and more, reinforcing at the same time the ethics of all people on the planet, which would lead to the adoption of binding norms that would affect people’s behavior when it comes to ecology and environmental protection . The media is playing a key role in this issue. A part of the discussion on the concept of conservation, including the main scientific and ethical points of view, is presented in this paper, highlighting the environmental, socio-ecological and ethical aspects behind the comprehensive concept of industry and economy. This paper is about the idea of being the appeal on media regarding the urgent need for socio-environmental ethical personal engagement and collective actions.

Mass media was gifted on the Nepali soil early as one and half century ago. We have no longer history on mass media and journalism as other countries compared to the four and half century long history of world journalism, the history of Nepalese mass media and journalism is undoubtedly a recent phenomenon. The art and science of using information to one's advantage is one of the keys to influence and power in any society. As a matter of fact man alone has the capacity to generate information through new symbols, and to share the meaning of these symbols with fellow men. One may even look with advantage at human history through the information/ communication prism. It is the history of an ever-increasing capability to create new generated information and shares it with others to their mutual advantage to ward off danger, to inform about the new opportunities, etc. In brief, information/ communication are the key to organized human life.

This study aims to make a synthetic theoretical presentation of the main challenges currently noticeable in the evolution of the mass media and social media in the context of the accelerated development of new technologies. It is a slow, but decided, visible change, one that profoundly affects human society. In this context we put forward the use of the post-media concept, which defines the transition from classical to new (digital) media, assimilating both the facilities of rapid communication and linking, as well as the tensions arising as a result of the dangers generated and the pressures exerted by various changes. The analysis covers the main types of convergence in communication, the integration of new technologies and equipment, the generalization of interconnection, the extension and diversification of handling arrangements, and the need to rewrite ethical and professional codes for the use of those working on digital platforms.
