Résumé :
The cities of Bristol and Bath have played an eminent role in the history of mental handicap.Unfortunately, documentation is rather scanty, particularly on the pre and post Reformation era but much more is known about the Holy Cross Hospital in Bath, perhaps the oldest mental handicap hospital in Great Britain. The Romans contributed to its foundations when they built Fossway Road on the outskirts of Bath which the pilgrims later used to visit Glastonbury.

Krebber, G. B., et G. Kotting. « Jean Bellegambe en zijn Mystiek Bad voor Anchin ». Oud Holland - Quarterly for Dutch Art History 104, no 3-4 (1990) : 123–39. http://dx.doi.org/10.1163/187501790x00057.

Résumé :
AbstractIt is not known where Jean Bellegambe, born circa 1470 in Douai, where he probably died in 1535/36, received his training. Artists in this region were exposed to influences from both Flanders and France. Bellegambe's stylistic development falls into two phases: the first (circa 1508 - circa 1 5 2 5) is rather archaistic, drawing on the school of Valenciennes (Marmion et al. and Provost); the second displays the more marked influence of Antwerp mannerism. The triptych discussed here, the Mystical Bath in Lille, made for the monastery at Anchin in view of the arms of the abbey and its abbot, Charles Coguin, on the wings, was only discovered in 1877. Comparison with Bellegambe's principal work, the polyptych The Holy Trinity, and the wings of the Immaculate Conception, both in Douai, has established it as his work. An examination of various published datings leads to the conclusion that this triptych is an example of the artist's second stylistic phase, which began in circa 1525, and was problably painted around that date. The association of the representation of 'Tons Pietatis' with the Office of the Holy Blood was based on the assumpion that the texts on Jean Bellegambe's Mystical Bath (a `Fons Pietatis' with bathing worshippers) derive from the Office ritual in Anchin. The texts however are literal quotations from the bible, the Office of the Holy Blood not being fixed in Bellgambe's day; the Anchin Office merits closer study. The idea that the cult of a relic of the Holy Blood in Anchin abbey may have influenced the iconography of at least the Mystical Bath is not supported by historical facts. Mâle's observation of a relationship between the Holy Blood cult and the representation of the 'Fons Pietatis' is thus reduced to a theologically underpinned assumption. Old and New Testament quotations with reference to the bible passages-not a new phenomenon as such may be connected with the renewed interest for the literal biblical text in the early sixteenth century. This suggests circa 1520 as the earliest date of the triptych. With his female figure of a repentant Mary Magdalene divesting herself of her garments and jewellery, Bellegambe introduces this theme into art. The motif and its combination with the `Fons Pietatis' motif seem to derive from religious drama, notably Jean Michel's Mystère de la Passion, performed in Mons in 1501. Although, in connection with the early sixteenth-century cult of Mary Magdalene, a revived interest in literal bible texts can be observed, it can not be demonstrated in Bellegambe's triptych. The fact that it was dccadcs before the jewellery-removing theme returned to art as an interior scene, may be due to Bellegambe's isolated position. The theological virtues and their attributes derive from a type developed in illuminated manuscripts of literary and philosophical texts, and may also have been inspired by the tableaux vivants enacted in Rouen and Amiens in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century. Coguin's contacts with the 'Clercs Parisiens' in Douai seem to be reflected in these iconographic details of the Mystical Bath. The representation is addressed to both the inmates of the abbey, who according to the rule of the order are speeding towards salvation, and the lay people, who could identify with the pseudo Mary Magdalene on the steps in front of the bath and a few non-clerical male figures. Owing to the lack of archive sources, the precise context of the piece cannot be ascertained.

Résumé :
Medical water therapy (also called medical hydrology) is practiced worldwide both for relaxation and treatment of diseases. While this practice is still thriving in Bhutan, there is a lack of proper documentation and critical study. Therefore, the current study reports on the water therapies practiced in Bhutan and their health benefits. We used four-stage process: (1) a review of literature on balneotherapy (both traditional textbooks and scientific papers); (2) listing and surveying the hot springs, mineral, and holy spring waters; (3) reviewing the health records of the patients maintained at the traditional hospitals and interviewing traditional physicians and patients about health benefits; and (4) reviewing available literature to identify existing clinical trials data to provide evidence for hydrotherapies. We found three main forms of hydrotherapies are practiced in Bhutan, which comprises herbal bath therapy, balneotherapy, and spiritually empowered waters. The most popular hydrotherapies are herbal bath and hot spring therapies. Herbal bath therapy needs traditional physicians’ prescriptions, while hot springs do not require it. Through field surveys, ten different hot springs (tsha-chu) and 17 medicinal water or mineral springs (sman-chu), and 17 holy spring-waters (sgrub-chu) were identified. In general, medical water therapies are used by the Bhutanese people to treat various ailments, including gastritis, neurological disorders, arthritis, dermatological diseases, and rheumatological and musculoskeletal disorders. Even though a lack of scientific evidence makes it difficult to draw concrete conclusions on their traditionally claimed efficacy and safety, there are clinical evidences documented from other countries.

Résumé :
Considering Ganga River as one of main Holy River in India, millions of people throng to the river to have a holy dip, Aachman (Mouthful of holy water) and cleanse themselves of sins. Magh Mela is a great festival to take place in bank of Triveni (Sangam) at Allahabad and runs more than one and half month, when millions of pilgrims from different regions in India go there for taking a holy bath in Sangam of Ganga. Thus, the bathing in the river during Magh Mela leads to high pollution of the river in comparison to other days such as normal bathing days. This study focused on the water quality status from some selected physico-chemical parameters of River Ganges and the impact of Magh Mela as well as the variation in the river’s flow rate. Results indicate that the pollution load was alarmingly high and the flow of the Ganga had been very poor. Further, the study found that the water was not fit for bathing during the 2012 Magh Mela. Résumé :
Recent ecumenical dialogues have focused on the question of ecclesiastical offices. At the heart of this debate lies the question of how to relate the Holy Spirit's guidance of the church to its structures. Two alternative visions frame the debate. The Roman Catholic Church insists on the authority of the church's teaching office, as the channel through which the Holy Spirit guides the church. In contrast, Protestant churches emphasize the self-sufficiency of scripture, the normative function of the Gospel vis-à-vis the church, and the freedom of the Holy Spirit in, with, and over against all ecclesiastical structures. My essay engages this ecumenical debate through fundamental ecclesiological reflections on the relation between the Holy Spirit on the one hand, and the scriptural witness and ecclesial authority on the other. I argue that no ecclesial structure must be identified undialectically with the voice of the Holy Spirit, but that the church must discern the guidance of the Spirit in the context of the Christian assembly, as it emerges ever anew from the “gaps” left open in the assembly's juxtapositions of texts, bath, and shared meal. In order to develop my thesis, I first retrieve Karl Barth's christological foundation of ecclesiology, his definition of divine freedom over against the church, and his introduction of scripture as the critical principle for the church's permanently needed self-reform. Second, I discuss Walter Kasper's insistence on the incarnational and sacramental nature of the church and his threefold understanding of the church's apostolicity in terms of succession, tradition, and communion. Finally, I develop Gordon Lathrop's reading of the Christian assembly of worship in terms of liturgical juxtapositions for my ecclesiastical purposes.

Résumé :
There are several historical approaches that might be taken to the lengthy discourse of Alisoun, Chaucer's Wife of Bath. From the dated one known as exegetical criticism, her revelations mark her as a "hopelessly carnal and literal" exegete of holy scripture (Robertson 317). In this view, she serves to represent and embody the very complaints that moralists were making about widows who re-marry and wives who demand sexual pleasure. Hence she rails against the admonitions of "clerkes," particularly the "cardinal, that highte Seint Jerome" (674).1 Chaucer, devoted to the poet's moral duty to set forth in his fictions examples of caritas and cupiditas, is thus exhibiting in Alisoun living proof of precisely those wrongdoings that the Wife, to her anger, has heard condemned by church authorities. The most minor of these is her own admitted tendency to gossip (531-42). Various authorities, among them Thomas Aquinas and Gulielmus Peraldus, whose Summa vitiorum figures in the Parson's Tale, "repeatedly denounced female chatter as the scource of the new age and called for its suppression" (Dalarun 40). When more serious charges are examined, she is seen in context as, supposedly, Chaucer means her to be seen: an offender against incontrovertible moral and social codes.

Résumé :
AbstractIn both narrative passages and ethical precepts, the early Christian text The Shepherd of Hermas places great emphasis on the virtue of enkrateia, self-control or self-restraint. At the same time, surprisingly erotic elements appear, beginning with an opening scene in which Hermas observes a woman of beauty and character emerging from her bath. Epithumia, desire, is immediately problematized. Though the text?s continuing interplay between motifs of desire and self-restraint at times seems clumsy, one can argue that it is nevertheless coherent and linked to the text?s depiction of masculinity. In the end, The Shepherd of Hermas seems to narrate the key task in Christian self-formation not as the suppression or repression of desire, but as the exercise of techniques of self scrutiny that lead to the seductions of self-control, the luxuriousness of virtue, the manly surrender to holy desire.

This study profiles the nature of culturally bound syndrome perception of Ode-Ori (schizophrenia) incident among faith based and traditional mental illness healers in the Oke-Ogun area. The study relied on Interviews with mental health healers in the faith based and traditional treatment of mental illness. The interviews were recorded on tape, processed, and analyzed. Narratives indicated that local mental health experts conceptualize Ode-Ori as a psychotic syndrome resulting from spiritual attack, punishment for taboo violations or genetic inheritance from parents to their offspring. The disorder was viewed as having poor prognosis. Healers apply local treatment in the form of; holy water, spiritual bath, head washing with leaves sap mixed with black soap (osedudu), incision on the forehead and syncretism prayers and exorcism to return the patient to normality. This study concludes that there is cultural coloration to understanding of schizophrenia, it causes located in supernatural, spiritual and genetic factors. There is the need for more education about nature and causes of schizophrenia among Onko people in Nigeria.

Abstract Only written sources from the 10th and 11th centuries inform us about the existence of images of the Mother of God in the three buildings of the Blachernae shrine at Constantinople (Great Church, Chapel of the Soros and Holy Bath). The first part of my study deals with the question of the localization of these images as well as their date and iconographical details. Furthermore, their possible material and technical features (wall paintings, mosaics or stone carvings) are discussed. In the case of the icon of the „usual miracle“ the Mother of God was doubtless represented with the Christ child on her arm. The second part of the paper investigates an icon in the Sinai Monastery with images of the Blachernitissa, Hodegetria, Hagiosoritissa and Cheimeute. The Hagiosoritissa can be identified as the icon of the Mother of God in the Chalkoprateia, probably linked with the icon of the Christos Antiphonetes. In an excursus, the returning date of the garment of the Virgin into the Blachernae sanctuary is examined.

Résumé :
On the 24th of August, the day when Saint Bartholomew takes possession of the waters and the Devil is on the loose, the believers of the 19th century headed to the beaches of Foz do Douro for the holy bath, in search of protection against skin diseases, stuttering or demonic effects. Through the saint, the sins of the former skin were expelled to make way for a renewed soul and body. This act of apotropaic and prophylactic nature was transferred to the cultural practice that we know today: the Cortejo dos Trajes de Papel de São Bartolomeu. This playful and spontaneous manifestation originated in the ancient religious festival, keeping the memory of the stripping of costumes in the waters.Based on the image of Saint Bartholomew from the parish church of São João da Foz do Douro, we intend in this study to reveal the evolution of the cult, the practices and rituals to which it was associated and how it can be understood as a support for cultural permeabilities, reinforcing the need of the study of the image in its context.

Résumé :
Of all quadrupeds the donkey happens to be the one credited by men with the least amount of animal intelligence. Its very name has become a word of abuse and contempt to be used against a friend or an acquaintance whom you regard as lacking in that degree of understanding that is necessary to a normal social being. The higher castes in India and Nepal do not touch the unintelligent brute and take a purifying bath after an accidental jostling. The worshippers of intellect on our side of the world have graded animals in the order of their brain qualities and put them down accordingly under the category of eatables and uneatable, the adorable and the contemptible. The donkey, like the sow, is the most contemptible and the most untouchable among the four-legged kind. It is positively a chamar or pariah in the hierarchy of animals. My mother, an orthodox Brahmin, accustomed to holy rites and prayers, used to warn me in my childhood against taking the donkey's name early in the morning. She positively believed that a full day's religious merit acquired through pious meditation and prayers would be totally forfeited on hearing the name of that ugly kind. The worship of intelligence carried to a religious pitch produces orthodox abhorrence of that variety. When the washerman's donkey is tinkling its bells along the road, you can see the start of the orthodox pedestrian and the scared expression in the eyes of religious ladies. The very sight is regarded as ominous by those who live by religious signs and symbols.

We study disturbances of thermal equilibrium between two-level systems (TLS) and a bath by frequent and brief quantum measurements of the TLS energy-states. If the measurements induce either the Zeno or the anti-Zeno regime, namely, the slowdown or speedup of the TLS relaxation, then the resulting entropy and temperature of both the system and the bath are found to be completely determined by the measurement rate, and unrelated to what is expected by standard thermodynamical rules that hold for markovian baths. These anomalies allow for very fast control heating, cooling and state-purification (entropy reduction) of quantum systems much sooner than their thermal equilibration time.

Résumé :
The Roman town of Bath (Aquae Sulis), renowned for its Temple to Minerva and thermal baths complex, is estimated here to have required around 500,000 m3 of stone for its construction. This huge amount of stone was likely to have been supplied from quarries within 5 km of the town, located towards the tops of the hills around Bath. Observations at the many old quarries show few features indicating Roman exploitation except for one Lewis bolt-hole and reports of chisel marks. The features of the majority of the stone in the Roman Baths-Temple Complex all suggest that the stone was sourced largely from the Combe Down Oolite Member (CDO; Jurassic, Bathonian stage), rather than the Bath Oolite Member (BO), of the Great Oolite Group. A portable X-Ray Fluorescence (pXRF) instrument, used to determine the trace element geochemistry of Bath Stone for comparison with the Roman stone, shows that the CDO and BO are very similar, except for different contents of Si, Al, Fe and Mn. These likely reflect variations in clay and organic matter content. However, with regard to the Roman stone and sculptures in the Baths-Temple Complex, all analyses of surfaces show enrichment in virtually all elements, but especially in P, Si, K, Al, S, Cl, Fe, Pb, Zn, Nb, and As. This contamination is largely attributed to the buried nature of the site (58 metres) from the 5th century AD until the end of the 19th century, during which time the stone would have been affected by groundwater, mostly derived from the hot-springs, with its high content of many elements. Analyses of cores cut into blocks of Roman stone show that the contamination is absent after 12 cm. This study demonstrates that care must be exercised in using geochemical analyses of ancient building materials for provenance studies, and that fresh surfaces of the material may well be required.

Résumé :
A pandemic caused by novel corona virus begins in end of year 2019 in Wuhan, China and within few months it emerged and affected the whole world. To providing information about health care, sanitation to the rural people of India, we conducted an Awareness, Cleanliness and Practice (ACP) survey among the rural people of Delhi-NCR, India in April 2022. An analytic cross-sectional survey with questionnaires administered online to the rural population including Farmers, Janitors, Health Care Workers (HCW), House wives, Students in Delhi-NCR, India. All Participants were voluntarily participated and the percentage of ACP scores was categorized as good and poor. However, Independent predictors like Awareness of severe acute respiratory disorder were ascertained using a binary logistic regression model. The questionnaire was online administered among rural people of Delhi-NCR, India. There were 400 study participants with mean age 32.37±8.15 yrs, interquartile range 28–32 yrs and males 63.4% with graduate education. Most participants were farmers (30%), Janitors (20 %), Health Care Workers, and 20% of House wives and students. All results were expressed in mean ± standard deviation for Awareness, Cleanliness and Practice (ACP) and their scored were 55.18± 12.38, 63.15% ± 5.16 and 45.02% ± 14.2 respectively. Apart from this 376 participants (56.25%) had good awareness (GA) about the hygiene, 32.5% had good knowledge about the cleanliness (KC), and 70% participants following good practices (GP). Despite of this around 58 % did not agree that vaccines can protect them from COVID-19 which as originated from animals and 46 % thought it was a manmade virus and China is behind it. Although, in case of factor fear most of participants (86%) gives 9 out of 10 and 75% agreed that taking basic precautions like wash hand with soap, wear mask, social distancing and vaccines can protect them from this pandemic. However some the respondents (56%) blamed govt election policies and holy bath in kumbh in Haridwar is the main reason of spreading the COVID19 in 2021 in India. One in seven people had public stigma towards infected person and recovered patient from the virus.

Résumé :
We study the decay of quantum nonlocality, identified by the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) Bell inequality, for two noninteracting Josephson qubits subject to independent baths with broadband spectra typical of solid state nanodevices. The bath noise can be separated in an adiabatic (low-frequency) and in a quantum (high-frequency) part. We point out the qualitative different effects on quantum nonlocal correlations induced by adiabatic and quantum noise. A quantitative analysis is performed for typical noise figures in Josephson systems. Finally we compare, for this system, the dynamics of nonlocal correlations and of entanglement.

An investigation was conducted to examine the validity of current industry maximum nickel contamination limits, which are established to ensure plated through hole solder joint integrity, for SnPb and SAC305 solder baths. Test vehicles were processed using three levels of nickel contamination for each solder: 0.01 wt.%, 0.02 wt.%, 0.05 wt.% for SnPb solder and 0.05 wt.%, 0.07 wt. %, 0.10 wt.% for SAC305 solder. The test vehicles were subjected to thermal cycle testing in accordance with the IPC-9701 specification. Based on this testing, the authors recommend that the allowable nickel contamination levels listed in the IPC-J-STD-001 specification (Table 3-1, Maximum Limits of Solder Bath Contaminant) be 0.05 wt.% for SnPb Assembly, 0.05 wt.% for SnPb Preconditioning, and 0.10 wt.% for SAC305 Pb-free Assembly.

Résumé :
Steady flow with constant circulation into a vertical drain is considered. The precise details of the outflow are simplified by assuming that the drain is equivalent to a distributed volume sink, into which the fluid flows with uniform downward speed. It is shown that a maximum outflow rate exists, corresponding to no fluid circulation and vertical entry into the drain hole. Numerical solutions to the full nonlinear problem are computed, using the method of fundamental solutions. An approximate analysis, based on the use of the shallow-water equations, is presented for flows in which the free surface enters the drain. There is, in addition, a second type of solution, having a stagnation point at the free surface and no fluid circulation. These flows are also computed numerically, and results are presented.

Résumé :
AbstractS2 glass fibre reinforced epoxy composites are widely used in aeronautical applications owing to their excellent strength to weight ratio. Drilling glass fibres can be cumbersome due to their abrasive nature and poor thermal conductivity. Moreover, the use of conventional coolants is not desirable due to contamination and additional costs for cleaning the machine part. An alternative is to use environmentally friendly coolants such as liquid nitrogen (LN2) which have been previously employed in machining metals and composites. The current study investigates the effect of drilling S2 glass fibre composite in a bath of LN2. The study aims to evaluate the effect of spindle speed, feed rate and the presence of cryogenic cooling on the form and dimensional tolerances of the hole (hole size, circularity, cylindricity and perpendicularity). Design of experiments and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to determine the contribution of the input parameters on the analysed hole quality metrics. Results indicated that drilling S2 glass fibre in a cryogenic bath increased hole size significantly beyond the nominal hole diameter. The hole circularity and cylindricity were reduced compared to holes drilled under dry condition under all cutting parameters due to enhanced thermal stability during the drilling process. The current study aims to provide the scientific and industrial communities with the necessary knowledge on whether cryogenic bath cooling strategy provides better hole quality output compared to dry drilling and other cryogenic cooling strategies which were previously reported in the open literature.

Abstract An active bath, made of self-propelling units, is a nonequilibrium medium in which the Einstein relation D = μk B T between the mobility μ and the diffusivity D of a tracer particle cannot be expected to hold a priori. We consider here heavy tracers for which these coefficients can be related to correlation functions which we estimate. We show that, to a good approximation, an Einstein relation does hold in an active bath upon using a different temperature which is defined mechanically, through the pressure exerted on the tracer.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride)(PVDF), poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC), and poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) were used as the main materials in the preparation of novel blend five-hole membrane. Dimethylacetamide (DMAC) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) were used as solvent and additive, respectively. The effect of some external coagulation conditions on the property of five-hole membrane was studied. The external coagulation conditions investigated in the work were the coagulation temperature and the DMAC content in coagulation bath. The result showed that the flux increased along with the increase of coagulation bath temperature and could reach the max at 35°C, then decreased gradually. The effect of the DMAC content in coagulation bath on flux is very similar to that of the temperature. The cross-sectional structures were examined by scanning electron microscopy.

Résumé :
Abstract In an ordinary quantum field theory, the ‘split property’ implies that the state of the system can be specified independently on a bounded subregion of a Cauchy slice and its complement. This property does not hold for theories of gravity, where observables near the boundary of the Cauchy slice uniquely fix the state on the entire slice. The original formulation of the information paradox explicitly assumed the split property and we follow this assumption to isolate the precise error in Hawking’s argument. A similar assumption also underpins the monogamy paradox of Mathur and AMPS. Finally, the same assumption is used to support the common idea that the entanglement entropy of the region outside a black hole should follow a Page curve. It is for this reason that computations of the Page curve have been performed only in nonstandard theories of gravity, which include a nongravitational bath and massive gravitons. The fine-grained entropy at I + does not obey a Page curve for an evaporating black hole in standard theories of gravity but we discuss possibilities for coarse graining that might lead to a Page curve in such cases.

We discuss a sufficiently large four-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole which is in equilibrium with a heat bath. In other words, we consider a black hole which has grown up from a small one in the heat bath adiabatically. We express the metric of the interior of the black hole in terms of two functions: One is the intensity of the Hawking radiation, and the other is the ratio between the radiation energy and the pressure in the radial direction. Especially in the case of conformal matters we check that it is a self-consistent solution of the semiclassical Einstein equation, Gμν = 8πG〈Tμν〉. It is shown that the strength of the Hawking radiation is proportional to the c-coefficient, that is, the coefficient of the square of the Weyl tensor in the four-dimensional Weyl anomaly.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to have an overview of the theology of Karl Barth who is considered as one of the most influential theologians in contemporary Christian world. This study is of worthy in order to have an accurate grasp of the trend of modern Chriatian theology. After a brief survey of his life and works, this study provides an overview of Barth’s theology focusing on three major areas of his theology: the doctrines of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Barth’s emphasis upon the transcendence of God, the centrality of Jesus Christ in Christian theology, and the importance of the Holy Spirit in the Trinity should not be ignored for better understanding of the modern Christian theology. In a word, Barth’s theology has continuity of, and, at the same time, discontinuity from liberal theology. Keywords: Karl Barth, morder Christian theology, transcendence of God, centraliy of Jesus Christ, importance of the Holy Spirit, neo-orthodoxy, liberal theology

In this paper, we have studied particle collision around a rotating acoustic black hole in 2 + 1 dimensions. This black hole is analog to a fluid flow in a draining bath tub with a sink. Center of mass energy for two-particle collision at the horizon of the rotating acoustic black hole is considered. There is a possibility of the two-mass collision to create infinite center of mass energy for certain fine tuning of the parameters of the theory.

Résumé :
A puzzling feature of a number of Lycian bath buildings is the array of holes cut in their walls at intervals of about 0·5 × 0·5 m. In size they are often about 0·12 × 0·12 m. × 0·06 m. deep, and so too large for the normal iron spikes which hold marble veneers or other wall facings in place. A chance find made during the course of the survey of Balboura in 1986 provides an explanation for these holes; they were to take spool-headed terracotta spacer pins which in turn held a series of large flat tiles with a space behind for the circulation of hot air from the hypocaust (Fig. 4), so providing the same effect as the better known tubuli and tegulae mammatae.

Résumé :
In this paper, we examine the implications of the ongoing black holes versus firewalls debate for the thermo-field dynamics of black holes by analyzing a conformal field theory (CFT) in a thermal state in the context of anti-de Sitter/CFT. We argue that the thermo-field doubled copy of the thermal CFT should be thought of not as a fictitious system, but as the image of the CFT in the heat bath. In case of strong coupling between the CFT and the heat bath, this image allows for free infall through the horizon and the system is described by a black hole. Conversely, firewalls are the appropriate dual description in case of weak interaction of the CFT with its heat bath.
