Résumé :
Common Criteria and ISO 27001/IT-Grundschutz are well acknowledged evaluation standards for the security of IT systems and the organisation they are embedded in. These standards take a technical point of view. In legally sensitive areas, such as processing of personal information or online voting, compliance with the legal specifications is of high importance, however, for the users’ trust in an IT system and thus for the success of this system. This article shows how standards for the evaluation of IT security may be integrated with the KORA approach for law compatible technology design to the benefit of both – increasing confidence IT systems and their conformity with the law on one hand and a concrete possibility for legal requirements to be integrated into technology design from the start. The soundness of this interdisciplinary work will be presented in an exemplary application to online voting.

Résumé :
Purpose: Evaluating speaking skill is an exceedingly difficult and intricate subject. Two methods of testing oral proficiency are usually used: holistic and analytic scoring. To this end, this study aimed to compare analytic and holistic techniques for scoring in evaluating oral proficiency skills. Methodology: The participants of this study were 70 second-grade university EFL students who were studying English Language Teaching at a university in Iran. The participants in this research were both male (n=40) and female (n=30) with the age range from24 to 25. Main Findings: The results showed a statistically considerable diversity between analytic and holistic methods of evaluation considering that the p-value was estimated at 0.002 (P < 0.05). Applications: The findings confirmed that employing these two scoring techniques in the procedure of evaluation may be considered proper as they seem to complement each other, one augments the other and lead to more inclusive evaluation. Novelty/Originality: This study is new since it is the first time in an Iranian university context; oral proficiency skill was evaluated through holistic and analytic scoring.

Résumé :
The transport sector is responsible for a broad range of ecologic impacts, e.g., energy consumption, greenhouse gas emission or air pollution. It is therefore highly important to assess transport solutions in terms of their sustainability. Widely used approaches for sustainability analysis in the transport sector include life cycle assessment (LCA), economic approach, multi-criteria decision analysis (MDCA), and assessments based on indicators. In practice, these approaches consist of several methods, i.e., product-based LCA, fleet-based LCA, cost benefit analysis (CBA), cost effectiveness analysis (CEA), value measurement MDCA, ideal-solution based MDCA, outranking MDCA, and indicator-based assessment. Even though there is a larger number of assessment methods, a holistic framework for sustainability evaluation of different transport solutions is still missing. Selection of suitable assessment methods depends on a vast array of factors. This paper proposes to utilise “application levels” for the selection process. Firstly, the paper provides an analysis of the application levels of the common assessment methods and evaluation criteria within the transport sector based on a literature review. The application levels are illustrated by identifying two dimensions, namely system level and decision-making level, ranging from Low to High. Afterwards, a six-step framework for a holistic evaluation of transport alternatives is proposed. Keywords: sustainability assessment, economic approach, indicator-based assessment, life cycle assessment, multi-criteria decision analysis, sustainable transport

Résumé :
Purpose This paper aims to investigate how the physical and sensory environmental triggers interact with subjective consumer evaluations in the production of shopping experiences, an under-investigated theme, despite its relevance. Design/methodology/approach An interpretative multi-method approach was used by combining video observation with camera eyeglasses and in-depth interviews with 30 customers of a department store. Findings Results offer a holistic framework with four-dimensional axial combination involving physical comfort, psychological comfort, physical product evaluation and sensorial product evaluation. Based on this framework, results highlight the role of comfort and products in producing shopping experience in ordinary store visits. Research limitations/implications The findings contribute both to consumer experience studies and to the retail marketing literature in shading a light on experience production in ordinary store visits. Specifically, we detail these visits not as a static response to a given environment stimulus, but as a simultaneous objective and subjective combination able to produce experience. Practical implications The results encourage managers to understand the experience production not just as an outcome of managerially influenced elements, like décor or odor. It involves considering subjective elements in the design of consumers’ physical and sensorial retail experiences. Originality/value Adopting an innovative method of empirical data collection, results generated a framework that integrates the objective shopping environment and subjective consumer responses. This research considers the role of comfort and product features and quality both physically and sensorially to develop experiences in a holistic manner in ordinary shopping visits.

Résumé :
Product evaluation research has a long tradition of examining how consumers evaluate a product from the product itself in an attempt to understand why certain products are better perceived or worse perceived. Usually consumers recall the memory of high evaluation products in their minds when they make buying decisions. Better fitting perceptions would be more favorable than poor fitting ones. Our findings indicate that culture is an important reason that influences consumers’ responses to design-based product evaluations. Westerners evaluate products differently than Easterners due to cross-cultural differences in styles of thinking. Two cultures of people have differences in design-based product evaluation. In most cases, Easterners have more favorable evaluations of a new packaging product than Westerners.

Résumé :
A holistic approach to R&D products’ evaluation for commercialization under open innovations is developed. The approach is tested on the example of the device of the interferometric determination of the refractive index of crystalline materials in the optical range. The proposed approach will allow setting a price that will satisfy all the parties of a transfer agreement with a higher level of accuracy and will meet market requirements. Unlike popular methods of evaluating the R&D product, a holistic approach will, on the one hand, be based on the actual costs and the break-even level of a R&D product and, on the other hand, will determine how much the consumer is receptive to a R&D product, and, then again, will show how the added value of the product will develop under the influence of market effects. It is noted that the application of a holistic approach to R&D products’ evaluation for commercialization should be supplemented by assessing the willingness of potential customers to purchase this R&D product at a specific price. It is proved that the proposed holistic approach to R&D products’ evaluation for commercialization is multifunctional. The approach can be applied to different types of economic activity, R&D products, and types of markets. The obtained prices based on the application of a holistic approach to R&D products’ evaluation for commercialization and the results of marketing research of the interferometry market testified to potential prospects of the commercialization of a R&D product of the interferometric determination of the refractive index of crystalline materials in the optical range and its long-term competitiveness. Based on the results, the key provisions of the concept of providing competitive benefits for the period of implementation of the analyzed R&D product are identified. Taking into account fundamental elements of the open innovation paradigm underpins the authors’ holistic approach.

Résumé :
Prescription opioid-related mortality is increasing in Australia. Real-time Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMPs) have recently been implemented as a strategy to reduce opioid-related harm. PDMPs enable prescribers and dispensers to view patients’ prescription history before writing or dispensing a high-risk medication. This article considers the complexity of accurately evaluating PDMP effectiveness. To ensure sustainable implementation of these systems in Australia, a wide range of outcomes need to be measured. These include any unintended consequences and impacts on comprehensive patient care. Furthermore, intervention evaluation may be disrupted by concurrent interventions, limited methodologies and the shortcomings of the current approach.

Résumé :
Holistic defense is a model of public defense rooted in the early 20th century recognition that lawyers and social workers should cooperate to advocate with and for individuals and communities in need. Prior work on holistic defense highlighted its potential to transform the lives of public defender clients by transforming the legal practice of attorneys. Comparatively, social workers’ roles in these transformations have been neglected. Yet many holistic defense programs begin by integrating social workers onto legal teams. In this article, I describe and evaluate a social work centric holistic defense model piloted in Santa Barbara, California. My research supports recent findings that holistic defense improves case outcomes and substantially reduces incarceration without negatively affecting public safety. I discuss my results in the context of prior research and the potential for holistic defense to reform criminal justice. I then make recommendations for the design of future holistic defense evaluations.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce a theoretical framework, the holistic mental model process, with major contextual factors (cultural, situation, cognitive and affective contexts) to help better understand tourists’ perception and evaluation of intercultural tourists–tour guide service encounters. Design/methodology/approach – Summary tables of an extensive literature review of previous empirical studies relating to intercultural service encounters, service encounter and service quality to help derive the holistic mental model process framework are included. Findings – Gaps from the previous literature were identified along with in-depth explanations as to how a holistic mental model process can be applied to tourists evaluating intercultural tourist–tour guide service encounters and the service quality of their overall travel experience. Research limitations/implications – The current conceptual framework of the holistic mental model process targets specifically on the intercultural tourists–tour guide service encounters. More in-depth empirical studies can be conducted focusing on specific variables of the intercultural tourist–tour guide service encounters and on the factor differences between specific cultures. Practical implications – This research has practical implications for travel agencies and tourism companies. Travel agencies and tour companies can apply the holistic mental model process framework to examine and analyze the influential variables between tourists and tour guide (i.e. cultural differences, etiquette, norms and behaviors), thus design better tour guide training programs accordingly. Social implications – Service encounter is a social activity that is influenced by the social environment. To achieve the best service quality, all parties, including tourists, tour guide, tour companies, host community, must understand cultural differences; work together in coordination and cooperation. Originality/value – This is the first study that provides an in-depth holistic mental model process by integrating major contextual factors to examine tourists’ evaluation of intercultural service encounters between themselves and tour guides.

Résumé :
From a scientific point of view, the analysis of the controlling concept and specification of the definition of controlling, taking changing economic, social and cultural conditions into account, are important in order to disclose the meaning and importance of controlling, to identify the object, functions, tasks of controlling and its place in the organisational structure of a company, to form a controlling system and distinguish its elements as well as to create a methodological basis for introduction of a controlling system into a company. Having considered that there is a huge variety of controlling definitions as well as explanations and interpretations of concepts, the content analysis method was used for examining the controlling concept. The analysis of the content of controlling definitions revealed that significant differences among the controlling concepts are related to identification of the research fields of controlling as well as distinguishment of dominant elements defining the goal, purpose and activities of controlling. After systematizing the concepts it was determined that controlling has to be analysed as a system combining narrower fields of research (procedural, functional, instrumental). After carrying out the analysis of dominant elements of controlling provided in the definitions it was revealed that most of them emphasize that controlling is oriented towards achieving the company's goals without specifically mentioning these goals. It is suggested to widen this concept by indicating that controlling has to be oriented towards achieving strategic and operational goals and concrete results of these activities have to be reflected through creation and increase of the company's value. Such approach is based on the attitude that the purpose of creating and introducing every new management system, including controlling, has to be related to additional value which, in the long run, can be created by connecting strategic and operational activities. When analysing the concepts of controlling in the respect of designation of dominant activity fields it was noticed that the management support activity is mentioned the most often and in the controlling system it is realised through various other activity fields. Their recurrence frequency in the provided definitions differ; yet the most frequently mentioned activities are those of planning, control and information support. Taking into account the fact that current controlling definitions do not identify the conditions under which this system would function efficiently it is appropriate to widen the definition of controlling in this respect by indicating that development of a controlling system flexibly responding to the changing external and internal environment as well as oriented towards factors creating a company's value is efficient in competitive and dynamic business conditions. The results of the conducted survey on the essence and the level of perception of the controlling in Lithuanian medium-sized business enterprises show that 54.7% of all surveyed mid-sized company executives and accounting and finance professionals have a clear perception on the controlling. The rest respondents identified controlling as control, internal control, management accounting, or were unable to define this category at all. Analysis of whether the level of control perception depends on the experience of the application of the controlling system in the companies, it has been determined that the perception level of the companies in which the control system has been applied or planned to be applied in the future, is significantly higher.

Résumé :
The article substantiates the concept of entrepreneurship education from the holistic perspective, which is interpreted in the context of education in its broad meaning and is related to knowledge, abilities of economics and business, value orientations, personal traits and their comprehensive development. The significance of content areas of the General Education Curriculum to development of entrepreneurship skills in schools of general education in Lithuania was analysed. Multiple criteria evaluation, based on expert evaluations, was applied for evaluation of significance of areas of the programme content mathematically processing and systemising the data. The significance of areas of programme content evaluated by experts was established using methods of indirect evaluation (ranking) and direct evaluation (percentage expression). The research showed that the data of expert evaluations, conducted using the methods of indirect and direct evaluation, coincide and, therefore, the data can be regarded as reliable. The conducted mathematical calculations show that multiple criteria methods can be successfully applied evaluating any other programme of similar kind.

Résumé :
The aim of this scientific paper is to outline the key terms of holistic competence of senior managers operating in individual types of work environment. The paper also proposes and presents a concept of a nontraditional approach to valuating holistic competence of managers. The concept is based on a scientific analysis of the deficiencies of the current model of selection and appointment of senior managers, which is shaped mainly by the outcome of elections and by auditions. The new concept capitalizes on the findings of two 2011 and 2013 VEGA (Scientific Grant Agency) projects, specifically Project Reg. No. 1/0794/11 Holistic Management Competence, Need, Approaches and Methods of Valuation (Celostná manažérska kompetentnosť, potreba, prístupy a metódy jej ohodnocovania), and Project Reg. No. 1/0539/14 Requirements for Work and Manager Competence of Public Administration Staff (Požiadavky na pracovnú a manažérsku spôsobilosť /kompetentnosť/ pracovníkov verejnej správy).

Résumé :
Purpose: Work-related stress among midwives results in secondary traumatic stress, posttraumatic stress disorder, and job attrition. The purpose of this pilot project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a holistic, web-based program using holistic modalities for stress reduction and improved coping among certified nurse-midwives. Design and Method: A convenience sample of 10 midwives participated in a web-based holistic stress reduction intervention using yoga, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and meditation for four days each week over 4 weeks. Participants completed pre- and postintervention questionnaires (Perceived Stress Scale [PSS] and the Coping Self-Efficacy Scale [CSES]) for evaluation of effectiveness. Findings: The PSS means showed improvement in midwives’ stress (16.4-12.3). The CSES means showed improvement in coping (174.8-214.5). Improvement was shown in each subscale of the CSES (“uses problem-focused coping”: 19.2%; “stops unpleasant thoughts and emotions”: 20.3%; and “gets support from family and friends”: 16.6%). Conclusion: Findings suggest the potential for stress reduction and improved coping skills after using holistic techniques in a web-based format within a cohort of nurse-midwives. Further research of web-based, holistic intervention for stress reduction among midwives is warranted.

Résumé :
Although the acceleration of urbanization brings social and economic development, it also produces various problems. Accurate evaluation of sustainable urbanization performance can help local governments summarize experiences and solve problems. Sustainable urban development should focus not only on modern construction, but also on original natural ecosystems and traditional cultural protection. This paper develops a holistic framework based on an “origin” and “modernization” perspectives and uses the multilevel extension method and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method for accurately evaluating sustainable urbanization performance. A case study of Chongqing City in China demonstrates the process of using the holistic framework and evaluation method. The empirical results from this study indicate that Chongqing has a medium level of sustainable urbanization. The city is considered as a medium level in “origin” performance and the “modernization” performance is good, while uncoordinated. The case study reveals that the proposed framework and the method are effective theoretical bases for policy-makers and practitioners to understand the performance of urban sustainability and for promoting urbanization toward better sustainability. Beyond the application case, the holistic framework and method can be applied to other cities.
