Résumé :
Background: Nowadays, the attention of scientists is focused on the systemic energy metabolism regulation by skeleton. Bone tissue affects the glucose turnover through the production of undercarboxylated osteocalcin (ucOCN), which in turn stimulates insulin expression and secretion as well as increases sensitivity of adipocytes, muscle cells and hepatocytes for this hormone. Current evidence showed an inverse association between serum OCN concentration and adverse metabolic outcomes, assuming the crucial role of OCN in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) pathogenesis. Objective: To analyze the link between OCN gene (BGLAP) HindIII-polymorphism and T2DM occurrence among Ukrainians with arterial hypertension (AH). Methods: The study included 153 patients with T2DM (mean age ± SD 64.67±8.2 years) and 311 relatively healthy individuals (mean age 65.65±12.58 years). Polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragments length polymorphism analysis (PCR-RFLP) was performed for genotyping. Logistic regression with interaction term “genotype × AH” was used for the association analysis under four models of inheritance. Bonferroni correction was applied for accurate results. P ˂ 0.05 was considered as significant. Results: There was no statistically significant association between BGLAP HindIII-polymorphic variant under dominant, recessive, overdominant and additive models of inheritance (Pab N 0.05; Paint b N 0.05). Conclusion: No association was found between BGLAP HindIIIpolymorphic variant and T2DM development among Ukrainians with AH. Further studies are necessary to confirm the results.

Résumé :
The current study demonstrates the reliability of the Hindi translated version of the PEAK-DT assessment tool. The PEAK-DT has been found to be a reliable and valid tool to assess the skill level of children with disabilities. The Hindi translated version was scored and compared with the English version. The participants were parents and professionals who speak Hindi and English fluently and also have children with a developmental disability. A two tailed t test as well as the Pearson correlation found the scores to be highly correlated. The results of this study enables Hindi speaking parents who do not speak English fluently to assess the skill levels of their children to provide professionals with reliable scores from an assessment tool.

Résumé :
The purpose of this paper is to examine potential similarities in Hindi1 and Pashto grammar as regards to the arial feature of lexical reduplication, and to give a brief explanation of the phenomenon. It is my belief that this feature appears in both languages and that it functions in a similar way when it comes to: full reduplication, distribution and partial reduplication, so called echo-words. I will try to explain how these features function in Pashto based on the research already done in Hindi and the limited amount of description found in Pashto grammars that discuss this subject. The object of the paper is to prove that reduplication in Pashto takes similar form with similar meaning to the reduplications found in Hindi. To analyse this I will look at literary language in Hindi and Pashto using examples found in books, grammars, papers of other researchers, as well as examples found online in blogs and on newspaper sites. The first section of this paper will deal with full reduplication of nouns, pronouns, adjectives and adverbials, numerals and participles. It will show that various types of semantic meanings can be derived from reduplication such as intensification, attenuation, continuation or distribution. The second section will deal with partial reduplication and it will show that these also appears in the different word categories mentioned (though apparently not in both languages) and it aims to give an explanation as to what forms these partial reduplications can take, that is, how they are constructed, as well as how they may function.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This thesis explores the relationship of Hindi film songs with Hindi cinema from the 1950s, especially emphasizing the present day. It is based on fieldwork completed in Bombay from 1998-2000 and the analysis of film songs and their picturizations. The main question addressed is: 'How far can film songs be seen as an independent tradition of popular music and how far are they a part of their parent films and Indian cinema?' Chapter 1 surveys previous scholarship on film songs and introduces their cinematic study. Chapter 2 deals with the production process of film songs, identifying the role of various personnel in their creation including the music director (composer), lyricist and singer(s). Chapter 3 addresses the musical style of film songs and its development in the light of both their cinematic and popular music roles. Chapter 4 turns to the use of Western music in film song from the perspective of meaning. Is Western music used in the same way in Hindi films as in Hollywood films, and if so, how, if music is not a universal language? Is the presence of Western music in film songs just due to hegemony? Song and background score material is analysed in its dramatic context, and Indian and Western music theory and interview material drawn on to answer these questions. Chapter 5 looks at the commercial life of film songs, addressing the question of whether songs sell films or films sell songs through an examination of the marketing and profitability of film songs in various eras. Chapter 6 discusses the reception of film songs, their popularity, how audiences come into contact with them, and their appropriation by audiences. Adorno's profile of mass music as alienating is revisited with reference to film song.

After a formal analysis of the verb phrase (nominal forms as well as simple and compound finite tenses), the study of serialization and causative construction has shown, at the morphological level itself, a complex interaction of not only syntactic features but semantic and speach-act features too. The four main diatheses (ergative, passive, the structure with the main term in the dative case, the structure with the main term in the genitive case) also show the prevalent importance of the speaker's view-point and of semantic factors in the selection of the type of verbal statement in modern hindi

Orsini, Francesca. « The Hindi public sphere, 1920-1940 ». Thesis, SOAS, University of London, 1996. http://eprints.soas.ac.uk/29537/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The 1920s and 1930s were decades of momentous changes and expansion in the Hindi literary sphere In this period Hindi became an established public language in print, education and politics and struggled successfully to become the future national language of India. A market for Hindi literature was first created, journals provided venues for debate and literary expression as well as professional employment, genres and styles were explored in many new directions, and new voices emerged, importantly those of women writers. The nationalist movement, too, entered a new phase which emphasized popular publics and vernacular institutions. Through the concept of 'public sphere' as expounded by Jurgen Habermas and other political scientists, this thesis analyzes those changes at the levels of institutions, actors, discourses and, to a limited extent, of audiences in their proper context and in relation to each other. Chapter 2 explores changes in the literary sphere, both its expansion chiefly through the medium of journals, and its institutionalization through a linguistic and literary agenda in the education system. Chapter 3 analyzes historical debates and narratives in order to trace the consolidation and diffusion of a nationalist historical consciousness. Chapter 4 examines the development of women's journals and the space they provided for a critique of discrimination against women and their public access, and for the exploration of women's roles and emotionality. Chapter 5 focuses on the making of Hindi's claim to be the 'national language', the strategies employed and the exclusions operated in the process of its political affirmation. Chapter 6 explores the relationship between the literary and the political spheres focusing on the role of Hindi intellectuals and political leaders. The institutional authority gained in one sphere underwrote that gained in the other, it shall be argued, and gave credence to an official nationalism that does not reflect the complexity and variety of cultural imagination and literary practices in that period.

Résumé :
Adult specimens of Katharina tunicata (mean weight = 10.23 grams) and Mopalia hindsii (mean weight = 10.90 grams) were tested for osmotic stress tolerance and oxygen consumption rates in a series of salinities (120%, 100%, 80%, 60%, and 40% seawater) at 11°C and 16L:8D photoperiod. K. tunicata and M. hindsii displayed similar trends in percent body weight variation and volume regulatory responses to osmotic stress. However, K. tunicata experienced a significantly higher percent body weight increase than did M. hindsii in response to hypo-osmotic conditions (80%, 60%, and 40% seawater). The mean rates of oxygen consumption per salinity for the two species were not significantly different. Both species, however, showed reduced oxygen consumption rates and significantly increased weight gain in 40% seawater. SEM comparisons of radulae, ctenidia, and shape of the pallial groove revealed no significant differences between the species relevant to differences observed in habitat selection.

Patil, Umesh, Gerrit Kentner, Anja Gollrad, Frank Kügler, Caroline Féry et Shravan Vasishth. « Focus, word order and intonation in Hindi ». Universität Potsdam, 2008. http://opus.kobv.de/ubp/volltexte/2010/4611/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
A production study is presented that investigates the effects of word order and information structural context on the prosodic realization of declarative sentences in Hindi. Previous work on Hindi intonation has shown that: (i) non-final content words bear rising pitch accents (Moore 1965, Dyrud 2001, Nair 1999); (ii) focused constituents show greater pitch excursion and longer duration and that post-focal material undergoes pitch range reduction (Moore 1965, Harnsberger 1994, Harnsberger and Judge 1996); and (iii) focused constituents may be followed by a phrase break (Moore 1965). By means of a controlled experiment, we investigated the effect of focus in relation to word order variation using 1200 utterances produced by 20 speakers. Fundamental frequency (F0) and duration of constituents were measured in Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) and Object-Subject-Verb (OSV) sentences in different information structural conditions (wide focus, subject focus and object focus). The analyses indicate that (i) regardless of word order and focus, the constituents are in a strict downstep relationship; (ii) focus is mainly characterized by post-focal pitch range reduction rather than pitch raising of the element in focus; (iii) given expressions that occur pre-focally appear to undergo no reduction; (iv) pitch excursion and duration of the constituents is higher in OSV compared to SOV sentences. A phonological analysis suggests that focus affects pitch scaling and that word order influences prosodic phrasing of the constituents.

Beshears, Anne. « The demonstrative nature of the Hindi/Marwari correlative ». Thesis, Queen Mary, University of London, 2017. http://qmro.qmul.ac.uk/xmlui/handle/123456789/30629.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
One of the main features of the correlative construction is the necessity of an appropriate correlate (either a demonstrative or a pronoun) in the main clause. While the syntactic features of the correlative construction are well established, the relationship between the correlative clause and its correlate remains unclear. In this dissertation, I propose that the correlative clause is the overt pronunciation of the index of the demonstrative. The correlative, therefore, does not adjoin to IP (Dayal 1996) or the demonstrative (Bhatt 2003) but enters the syntax as the indexical argument of the demonstrative phrase (Nunberg 1993; Elbourne 2008). I then turn to the adverbial correlative clause, which involves an adverbial relative phrase, and show that it is also the overt pronunciation of the index and, further, that it is interpreted as a definite description and contributes an individual of type e. Having established the relationship between the correlative clause and its correlate, I develop a new analysis of the semantic contribution of both the single headed correlative, involving one relative phrase, and the multi-headed correlative which involves multiple relative phrases. I propose that the correlative gets its interpretation through a Q particle, QCOR, which raises from the relative phrase to Spec-CP. It is QCOR which allows both adverbial and nominal correlatives to have a definite interpretation. I present new data from Hindi and Marwari which shows that the multi-headed correlative is basegenerated inside of the main clause, at the highest demonstrative or below, and denotes an ordered pair. Each member of that set is then an argument of one of the demonstratives in the main clause. Finally, if the proposed analysis is correct, then it should be follow that other types of phrases can occur in the same position. Not only is this possible in Hindi and Marwari, but sign languages and Mandarin Chinese allow overt indices as well.

Résumé :
Mass media in various forms have during the last decades increased their presence in India. Among the printed media, the regional daily press has experienced a particularly strong growth through the 1980s and 1990s. This study is primarily concerned with Hindi newspapers and their journalists in the north Indian State of Uttar Pradesh.  The form and the content of the newspapers are dealt with, so are routines and organisation of newswork as well as the background and the careers of journalists. The study also elucidates how the Hindi-language journalists formulate their occupational role and understand their position in the public sphere – particularly in relation to the English-language press in India. A central aim of the research has been to describe local and culturally specific conditions of a profession that is working with similar methods and tasks all over the world. Simultaneously, the journalistic form of cultural production is discussed in relation to processes of cultural globalisation, modernity and political imagination.  The study is based on fieldwork conducted during two periods of totally 10 months, between 1995 and 1998, among journalists in the city of Lucknow.

Résumé :
This dissertation contributes to an ongoing debate on the types of linguistic features which can be acquired in a second language by looking at the multiple learning challenges related to the ergative case system (the appearance of –ne with the subject) in Hindi-Urdu by classroom learners. Some hypotheses in second language research hold that interpretable features (features which contribute semantic information) can be acquired in a second language, whereas uninterpretable features (features which express grammatical information) cannot be easily acquired, if ever. Additionally, hypotheses in second language processing hold that the second language learners are able to process semantic information but not grammatical information. This dissertation investigates at the acquisition process of second language learners of Hindi-Urdu acquiring the uninterpretable ergative case. In Hindi-Urdu, the subject of a sentence appears with the ergative case marker –ne, when the verb is transitive and in the perfective aspect. In my dissertation, I test the validity of the aforementioned hypotheses and investigate the acquisition and acquisitional process of ergative case in L2 Hindi-Urdu by L1 English speakers by analyzing data collected by using an acceptability/grammaticality judgement task, a self-paced reading task and a production task from Hindi-Urdu learners and native speakers.

This study is maimly to investigate the effects of rootstock variety on the growth characteristics of Fortunella hindsii. Useing Fortunella hindsii to develop a fruit bonsai that can interact with people. At the same time, we study for the method of scion production and excellent rootstock reproduction, and also observe the precocious flowering of Fortunella hindsii seed seedlings and selecte outstanding new strains for bonsai produce. From multiple aspects to study the growth characteristics and uses of Fortunella hindsii. This study used 12 varieties of stock, including sunki, citrange, citrumelo, trifoliate orange, lemon, sweet orange, grapefruit, pomelo, Hutou Gan, Honey Murcott, mandarin, and calamondin by grafting. For 9-cm bonsai prouce, we recommend firstly lemon, secondly double-plant grapefruit, thirdly grapefruit, and fourthly sweet orange. Lemon has few seeds, but can reproduce by cutting. For 15-cm bonsai prouce, we recommend firstly grapefruit, secondly sunki, thirdly citrange, and fourthly sweet orange. Sunki rootstocks are easily bought from market, but trees on them should be planted for 2 years. Pomelo and calamondin are suitable for large bonsais and garden trees produce. Hotou Gan can be applied to hedges, and being 22 cm stock is the best suited for Fortunella hindsii scion produce. Different rootstocks will effect the same strain of Fortunella hindsii on growth and shape. Just likes the Taiwanese proverb that “The right rootstock is more important than heavy fertilization.”(Taiwanese pronunciation is Hei Dang Bui Bu Zu Una Shin Tsang.) Cutting rootstocks of lemon and citrange can make Fortunella hindsii flower and bear fruit, but they can not meet the product standards. Maybe the planting time of cutting stocks was not enough. It should be studied more deeply. There are about 30% seed seedlings of Fotunella hindsii that showed precocious flowering in the first year. And there are about 60% seed seedlings of Fotunella hindsii that showed precocious flowering in the second year. They still bear fruit every years after the first flowering, and there are 41.7% precocious flowering seedlings can produce offsprings. At present we selected 7 outstanding new strains for bonsai improvement.

Résumé :
In this paper, I consider historical periods, linguistic categories, and social theories in relation to Hindi in order to trace out the character and trajectory of the language. From sixteenth-century courtly contexts, to the adoption of the Devanagari script in the twentieth century by nationalists, Hindi has a polyvalent and yet specific history. I discuss these contexts in which social contact led to linguistic change and in which Hindi acquired many of the lexical, syntactical, and phonological characteristics by which it is recognized today. I conclude with a section that considers the motif of language and power, and I suggest that the production of knowledge and power in language use, offers both the means of distinction and expression or, in another sense, of hierarchy and communitas. A thread that runs throughout the paper is attention to the contexts in which language use enables elaboration and in which elaboration is eschewed in order to attain social unity. Pursuing a descriptive historical-linguistic project, I neither affirm nor deny the politics of such language use, but rather I indicate the ways in which actors and agents use Hindi to help articulate their agency.

An EtOH extract of the stems of Euonymus laxiflorus Champ. (Celastraceae) and Celastrus hindsii Benth. exhibited cytotoxicity against caroma in vitro. From the stems of Euonymus laxiflorus, we isolated and characterizated of twenty one compounds, including of four sesquiterpene alkaloids, ebenifoline E-II (1), mayteine (2), euojaponine C (3), emarginatine-E (4); sevene triterpenoids, 3-hydroxyolean-12-en-22, 29-g-lactone (5), laxiflone-A (6), 3, 11-dioxo-b-amyrene (7), 3b, 22a-dihydroxyolean-12-en-29-oic acid (8), 28, 29-dihydroxyfriedelan-3-one (9), 29-hydroxy-3-oxo-D:A-friedooleanan-28-oic acid (10) and putranjivadione (11); six benzenoids, 4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxy-trans-cinnamaldehyde (12), p-Hydroxybenzoic acid (13), vanillin (14), isovanillin (15), isovanillic acid (16) and syringic acid (17); four steroids, b-sitosterol-D-glucoside (18), stigmasterol-D-glucoside (19), b-sitosterol (20) and stigmasterol (21). Two cyclohexanes, crotepoxide (22) and (-)-(1R, 2R, 4R, 5S, 6R, 7R)-4-benzoyloxymethyl-3, 8-dioxatricyclo [5.1.0.02,4] octane-5, 6-diol-6-acetate (23); two neolignans, futoenone (24) and (±)-(2a, 4a, 5ab)-4-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2, 5a-methano-7-methoxy-5-methyl-8H-2, 3, 4, 5-tetrahydro-1-ben-zoxepin-8-one (25) were isolated from the leaves of Euonymus laxiflorus. Two sesquiterpene polyol esters, celahin-D (26) and celahin-A (27); two triterpenes, loranthol (28) and friedelinol (29) were isolated from the stems of Celastrus hindsii. Among them, 6 and 26 are new compounds. 22-24 and 25 are isolated for the first time from Family Celastreaceae. The structures of these compounds were determined on the basis of spectral analysis. Biological evaluation showed that 22, 24 demonstrated cytotoxicity against Human colon carcinoma (colon-205, ED50 < 1.0 mg/ml).

Résumé :
The present research examined whether morphology influences word recognition independently of form-level word properties. Prevailing views attribute cross-linguistic differences in morphological processing to variations in morphological structure and/or productivity. This study tested whether morphological processing is additionally influenced by the orthographic depth of written language, by comparing primed word naming among biliterate readers of Hindu and Urdu, languages written in distinct orthographies but sharing a common morphophonology. Results from five experiments supported the view that morphological processing in orthographically shallow (transparent) Hindi script diverged significantly from that in the deeper (opaque) Urdu orthography. Specifically, morphological priming was differently affected in Hindi vs. Urdu by prim presentation conditions (Exps. 1-3): very briefly exposed (48ms), forward masked morphological primes facilitated word naming in Hindi but not in Urdu. Neither briefly presented, unmasked primes nor longer prime exposures (80ms/240ms) produced priming in Hindi, but Experiment 2 showed priming by unmasked Hindi primes at a 240 ms exposure. By contrast, Urdu exhibited morphological priming only for forward masked primes at the long exposure of 240ms. Thus, early-onset priming in Hindi resembled morpho-orthographic decomposition previously recorded in English, whereas Urdu evinced priming consistent with morpho-semantic effects documented across several languages. Hemispheric asymmetry in morphological priming also diverged across Hindi and Urdu (Exps. 4 and 5); Hindi revealed a non-significant numerical trend for facilitation by morphological primes only in the right visual field (RVF), whereas reliable morphological priming in Urdu was limited to left visual field (LVF) presentation.Disparate patterns in morphological processing asymmetry were corroborated by differences in baseline visual field asymmetries in Hindi vs. Urdu word recognition- filler words elicited a consistent RVF advantage in Hindi, whereas in Urdu, one-syllable fillers, but not two- and three-syllable words revealed the RVF advantage. Taken together, the findings suggest that the variable of orthographic depth be integrated more explicitly into mainstream theoretical accounts of the mechanisms underlying morphological processing in word recognition. In addition, this study highlights the psycholinguistic potential of the languages Hindi and Urdu for advancing our understanding of the role of orthography as well as phonology in morphological processing.
