Résumé :
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This article seeks to nuance the classic narrative of the Reformation in which Martin Luther is singled out and the Reformation, directly linked to Luther, is equally portrayed as a very specific singular event. Based on a perspective of pluralism this article shows that several reformative attempts inspired by Hermetism and the notion of a prisca theologia had already begun prior to Luther and was subsequently continued in connection with the Counter-Reformation and in other circles. Persons such as Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola and later heirs of Hermetism, are for example only very rarely mentioned directly in connection with the ongoing reformations of the Church. The reason why these persons are overlooked might be rooted in the concept of the Reformation itself and the Christian antipathy for the foreign pagan traditions by which these very persons sought to reform the Church.

AbstractThe term “esotericism” refers here to the modern esoteric currents in the West (15th to 20th centuries), i.e. to a diverse group of works, authors, trends, which possess an “air de famille” and which must be studied as a part of the history of religions because of the specific form it has acquired in the West from the Renaissance on. This field is comprised of currents like: alchemy (its philosophical and/or “spiritual” aspects); the philosophia occulta; Christian Kabbalah; Paracelsianism and the Naturphilosophie in its wake; theosophy (Jacob Boehme and his followers, up to and including the Theosophical Society); Rosicrucianism of the 17th century and the subsequent similarly-oriented initiatic societies; and hermetism, i.e. the reception of the Greek Hermetica in modern times.

The current inquiry into the Corpus Hermeticum IV.3-6a deals with an object of the History of the Contemporary World of the New Testament, the History of the Ancient Mediterranean Religions and the History of Philosophy. As such, it aims to analyze the conception of βαπτίζω [baptizo] in Ὁ Κρατήρ (Corpus Hermeticum IV.3-6a), taking into account its intertextuality and its religious-historical correlation. Specifically, the conception of βαπτίζω is analyzed in this text, with the intention of examining its correlation with the hymn of the Dreamlike Apparition of Hathor (Stela Wien 8390) and its intertextuality, through the Allegory of the Crater, with Timaeus 41D, De Somniis II. 183, 190, 249, and Proverbs 9.1-6 (LXX). In particular, this inquiry demonstrates that the Corpus Hermeticum IV.3-6a describes a banquet or symposium. Moreover, comparing sentences in which the verbs ϰεράννυμι and μίγνυμι take place in connection with ϰρατήρ, one perceives that the sense of the verb βαπτίζω, in the sentence βάπτισον σεαυτὴν ἡ δυναμένη εἰς τοῦτον τὸν ϰρατῆρα (of the Corpus Hermeticum IV.3-6a), means to mix. Finally, the present inquiry asserts that the verb βαπτίζω, in this sentence, with the sense of mixing, has Egyptian influence and correspondence with the word jʻj and the word tḫ and its derivations.

The theme of this Master Thesis is the analysis of the concepts of analogy and assurreição (formal objects) in the work Soledades (material object) of Luis de Góngora, as well as formal and philosophical implications. Wanted to do an analysis of the poem in order to pursue the following hypothesis: the excesses and the disproportion that Soledades have are not the result of a stylistic whim. They are born of an intervention poetic furor, understood as divine wrath. Góngora had access to these conceptions by the influx of Hermetic and Neoplatonic ideas in Iberia. Such inflows are responsible for a particularly acute amplification of the doctrine of analogy. The splitting up of this emphasis on the principle of analogy is properly assurreição as defined by Claude-Gilbert Dubois. From these elements, this Dissertation intended to carry out an analysis of some reasons, scenes and snippets of narrative poem Soledades, Luis de Góngora y Argote, showing how he prepares the doctrine of proportionality and analogy in that moment that analogy acute assurreição produces, ie the cross section in the hierarchy of institutional bodies, this movement generally understood in theological and political terms as heresy. On the other hand, there is the important relationship between Hermeticism, Neoplatonism and literature in the Renaissance, as well as the manner in which the doctrine of poetic fury seeped in arts and poetry by Italian Spanish in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. I focused on the concept of assurreição and analysis of the shifting metaphysical and theological analogies of proportionality present in Soledades, comparing them with the distribution of natural places for each element of the cosmos, basically fixed by St. Thomas Aquinas, the greatest authority of Catholic theology in seventeenth-century Iberian Peninsula

Résumé :
Artistic forms seem to be closely related to magical thinking, because of their use of symbols and representations, the creation of talismanic objects and the articulation of ritual practices. This link has fluctuated throughout history. There were periods in which they were intricately related, whereas in other times the threads almost released themselves. However, it seems that they never managed to separate completely. That is because of the link, present since the origins of art. For this investigation, there will be a very broad historical framework, from that initial focus up to the present. That is because the goal is to articulate certain aesthetic ideas, a theory that helps us understand better the foundations of art. Among all art forms, schools, artists and tendencies, the focus will be in those closer to the visionary. That is because that kind of link is more visibly present in those creators or currents.

It is proposed that there exist unmistakable resonances of the Hermetic world-view in much of the science of the modern period. Hermes Recidivus examines key figurations operating within both the imaginaries of Hermeticism and modern(ist) science with a view to developing a postmodern critical position in regard to the discourse of the modernist scientific project. It is proposed that a re-examination of the notions surrounding these key figurations may provide new hermeneutical tools, and that the imaginary of Hermeticism represents a potentially rich resource from which to develop alternative modes of critical enquiry. It is furthermore proposed that the mechanism by which these Hermetic resonances are perpetuated within the discourse of modernist science takes the form of a logic of the imaginary associated with key figurations within Hermeticism. Certain figural elements associated with the Hermetic imaginary seem to possess a constancy that travels across temporal and disciplinary barriers, encouraging the assumption that these figures are central organising principles within both Hermeticism and modern science. Specifically these figurations are those of the anima mundi and the Gnostic 'alien light' or spintheros. It is proposed that these figurations take the form of 'ideal objects' within both the discourses of Hermeticism and modernist science. The individual chapters respectively examine the relevance of the Hermetic imaginary to Artificial Intelligence research and cybernetic theory; occidental and oriental traditions of the 'subtle body' and their relevance to developing a postmodern perspective on the question of mind-body dualism; the 'metaphysical geometry' of key figures within the Hermetic and Kabbalistic traditions and their resonances within mathematical 'catastrophe theory' as developed by Rene Thom; the Hermetic alchemy of Robbert Fludd as revealed in his text Truth's Golden Harrow, and its relevance in regard to the subject-object split of modern(ist) scientific consciousness and, finally, the influence of Kabbalistic and Hermetic figuration on the development of Leibniz's monadological philosophy and on the notion of the 'field' in contemporary physical theory

Starting from a wide investigation in the literary reviews in the '30s, the research has focused on the major magazines, for which hermetic poets and critics worked. The correspondence between poets and editors in chief and members of the editorial staff has proved extremely interesting; the most meaningful letters, especially the unpublished ones, are presented in the thesis. Many critic-theoretic documents and some rare poetries by Mario Luzi (never collected nor published by critics) are also reproduced. Moreover lyrics by various poets, such as Mario Luzi, Umberto Saba, Carlo Betocchi, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Salvatore Quasimodo, Alessandro Parronchi, have been anthologised (with text transcription and apparatus criticus below); all of them present some changes in text compared to the final version, printed in volume. This analysis represents, at least, the third part of the thesis.

Résumé :
This study focuses on two areas: alchemy (Part I) and rituals of initiation (Part II) in the works of Miguel de Cervantes, focusing on Don Quijote de la Mancha as my main case study. The first part analyses the function of alchemy and how it can be interpreted throughout the works and various literary genres of Cervantes. It will demonstrate that the texts of Cervantes contain both explicit and implicit allusions to, as well as different aspects of alchemy, such as operative and spiritual alchemy and how these are ultimately used by Cervantes as a means of expression. The author draws from this rich source and modifies these means of expression in order to achieve various results: sometimes with wit or in relation to fraud; at other times it focuses on inner alchemy relating to chivalry in what I have called spiritual chivalry, which has the aim of self-improvement and ultimately, gnosis.  Regarding the chivalric rituals of initiation, according to this investigation chivalry serves as both satire and representation of the alchemical process in the case of Don Quijote, which finds its key moments during the rituals. In this sense alchemy and chivalry are studied as two sides of the same coin, in which the search for something higher, an object (the philosopher stone, the beloved), subjects the protagonist to continuous transmutations and puts him in contact with the transitory, that is, liminal states, people and spaces. From this perspective Don Quixote de la Mancha is built upon liminal poetics. My approach, which follows the tenets of analogical hermeneutics, is included within the framework of the Western Esotericism Studies. The 16th and 17th centuries were a fertile age for alchemy throughout Europe. In Spain, alchemy and other esoteric disciplines co-existed with the Spanish Inquisition and its body for the control of ideas and texts: censorship. By being ambiguous and putting into dialogue different ideas of alchemy, Cervantes not only allowed readers to reach their own conclusions, he also protected his work from censorship.

Zaffini, Sylvain.

During the XVIIIe century, chemistry has started its journey on the path of the unification, codification and normalization ofits vocabulary. The same process doesn’t apply to alchemy. The vocabulary of the hermetical arts has never managed toestablish a normalized lexical field. Considering that any vocabulary being essentially an attempt to unify ideas around asame concept, the alchemical one shows a particularity by being divided, fragmented and highly individualistic. This fact is most likely not a coincidence, it comes more from a secrecy measure wanted by the alchemists to prevent any greedy use of the powerful alchemical secrets. However, this way of secrecy and complexity has slowly but surely took alchemy away from the established sciences. This state of fact can easily bring one to mistake alchemy for a science of men disconnected from their social and cultural backgrounds, working only for themselves, which is not the case. The matter of the alchemical vocabulary understanding is therefore a reoccurring and prominent issue for whom wants to understand the implications of alchemy in the modern thinking and society. This thesis aims at giving a better understanding of several alchemical terms, concerning Modern era, both on a literary and cultural levels

Résumé :
Abstract This paper describes an initial development of oxidation resistant coatings for SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) interconnectors using LaSrCoFe oxide (LSCF, (La0.6Sr0.4)(Fe0.8Co0.2)O3). The process involved the development of hermetic coatings using a HVOF (high velocity oxy-fuel) spray process, specifically a θ-gun spray process. The X-ray diffraction of the powder and the coating is analyzed at first. To get the hermetic coating, numerous process parameters were chosen using design of experiments (DOE). The hermeticity of the coating was tested using a salt spray test. After these tests, a hermetic LSCF coatings was obtained with virtually no interconnecting pores.

Résumé :
A novel wafer level packaging method suitable for low production volumes, R&D, and multi-project wafers is presented, providing a hermetic seal suitable for vacuum encapsulation with wafers bonded at a low temperature. Hermetic through-wafer interconnects are bump bonded to a CMOS chip encapsulated by bonding a cap wafer after activating surfaces with free radicals, the Silicon-Silicon direct bond is then annealed to a high strength at 200°C to avoid chip damage. The application for which this system is proposed is an implantable multi-contact active nerve electrode for the treatment of epilepsy via vagus nerve stimulation. Although intended for human implantation of integrated systems, this technology may be applied across a range of devices requiring hermetic or vacuum sealing and through-wafer interconnection. Solid electroplated through-wafer interconnects (aspect ratio 5) enable hermetic interconnection of direct bonded packages with low connection impedance, offering benefits across a range of packaging applications. A key feature of this packaging method is it’s versatility, the proposed embodiment features chip to wafer bonding with an ASIC, but the package is equally suitable for MEMS devices and also for wafer to wafer bonding.
