Résumé :
Captions, which are used as a means of information support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, are usually presented only in text form. Therefore, when mathematical equations and figures are frequently used in a classroom, the captions will show several demonstrative words such as “this equation” or “that figure.” As there is a delay between the teacher’s utterance and the display of the captions sometimes, it is difficult for users to grasp the target of these demonstrative words accurately. In this study, we prepared hybrid captions with mathematical equations and figures and verified their effectiveness via a comparison with conventional text-only captions. The results suggested that the hybrid captions were at least as effective as the conventional captions at helping the students understand the lesson contents. A subjective evaluation with a questionnaire survey also showed that the experimental participants found the hybrid captions to be acceptable without any discomfort. Furthermore, there was no difference in the number of eye movements of the participants during the experiment, suggesting that the physical load was similar for both types of captions.

Résumé :
Since constructional apraxia is often concomitant with brain lesions, the study of constructional tasks in the non-brain-damaged population might be useful in helping to disentangle other causal factors. This paper explores the performance of illiterate individuals (N = 29) as compared to that of semiliterates (N = 21) and literates (N = 23) in order to see the effect of reading and writing abilities on constructional tasks. Each participant was asked to construct 4 figures based upon models having varying degrees of complexity. A global criterion of lack of fidelity and several analytic criteria (related to distortion, rotation, and disarticulation errors) were used to evaluate performance. Although illiterates generally made more errors than semiliterates and semiliterates more than literates, only some of these differences were statistically significant. Significant differences were found for lack of global fidelity and disarticulation errors when all 4 figures were considered together. Subtler data emerged with respect to single figures. Résumé :
Nationalism can be interpreted as a natural love for the country, an awareness that encourages to establish sovereignty and an agreement to form a state based on an agreed nationality and serves as the first foothold and goal in carrying out cultural and economic activities. Therefore, this paper aims to describe the forms of nationalism in Tere Liye's novel Serial Anak Nusantara. The source of this research is Tere Liye's novels, entitled Si Anak Badai, Si Anak Pintar, and Si Anak Special. This study used a descriptive qualitative method. The data taken in this study are forms of nationalism that are described by the main character in the three novels. The results of this study are two nationalist attitudes that stand out from the three novels of Serial Anak Nusantara, namely nationalism and ethnic nationalism. The two attitudes of nationalism are illustrated through the actions of the figures, namely helping to catch robbers, working together, helping parents, and voicing opinions. Ethnic nationalism is described by the main character, namely helping friends, preserving forests, forgiving each other.

Résumé :
AbstractThe paper deals with significantly different sources and historical periods: the parts dedicated to breastfeeding are based on votive statuettes of adults with infant/s from ancient Latium and Southern Etruria; the ones on pregnancy and childbirth are based on two archeological sources – one from Southern Etruria and one from Imperial Rome – which show the male (divine) appropriation of exclusively female biological functions; The parts on mothering are based on the concept of “mothering figures” (male mothering, animal mothering…) through mythological examples from Greek, Etruscan, and Roman art and narratives. Despite the heterogeneous documentation, we may conclude that the mother was not the only active character in the process of conceiving, giving birth, breastfeeding, and raising an infant in the Greek, Etruscan, and Roman societies. Many other figures close to the mother – male and female – were engaged in obtaining divine protection for her and her child; in helping, supporting, and even substituting her when necessary (and, of course, when possible). The research has been conducted mainly by using the concept of kourotrophia and mothering figures as analytical tools.

Résumé :
Abstract The collapse of the traditional Japanese household system and the subsequent social advancement of women has led supporting parents as a family matter, and led more men to assume caregiving roles; however, very few studies have focused on sons’ care motivation. This study aimed to understand adult sons’ perceived care motivation and to examine the respective related factors of emotional attachment and reciprocity. A total of 1322 men (M [age] = 44.5) participated in a web-based questionnaire survey. Perceived care motivation for providing five types of support (e.g., helping with daily activities and housework) to each parent and parent-in-law was assessed. Regression analyses revealed that emotional attachment with parents and parents-in-law predicted perceived care motivation for all types of support. Furthermore, the role of reciprocity was indicated by the association between rearing by mother-in-law and son-in-law’s motivation to provide assistance in financial matters, housework, and visiting a hospital.

Résumé :
Representations of fire in the U.S. are often tinged with nostalgia: for unburned landscapes, for less frequent fires, for more predictable fire behavior, or for a simpler, more harmonious relationship between human communities and wildfire. Our perspective piece identifies four prevalent nostalgic figures that recur in popular representations of wildfire: the Giant Sequoia, the Heroic Firefighter engaged in “the Good Fight”, the Lone Frontiersman, and the “Noble Savage”. We assess the affordances and constraints of each of these figures for helping and/or hindering fire management. We consider how some forms of nostalgia position particular humans as heroes and fire as a villain, how others prioritize the communities that come together to face catastrophic fire events, and how some romanticize Indigenous burning practices. Drawing on knowledge from fire science, human geography, and the environmental humanities, we suggest that a more nuanced understanding of nostalgia can be useful for fire management and for finding healthier ways of living with more fire in the future.

Résumé :
In the 1930s, as the power of the Nazis grew, many leading German academics and scholars sought refuge in other countries, including. the UK, the USA and many countries in Europe. Some of the refugees were already well known for their achievements, such as Einstein, Fermi, Schoenberg, Bartok, Brecht and Weill. The more established figures had easier access to those countries offering them refuge, whereas others at that time had fewer choices. The Academic Assistance Council in London and the Royal Society played a significant role in helping academic refugees find places in universities and other institutions where they could continue their research. The USA favoured distinguished academics, whereas the UK and other European countries were more open to younger academic refugees, who would subsequently make their name. There was, however, also opposition from various quarters, including State Department officials in the USA and certain British Noble Lords. Without the dedication and determination of many establishment figures on both sides of the Atlantic, the wealth of talent that had until that time been nurtured in Germany would have been lost. This article describes some of the prominent British figures who played such a significant and, as it turned out, life-saving role during this crucial period.

The purpose of the present research is to create a training pathway for the Helping Figures, focused on self-consciousness of one's psychological and emotional working, starting from personal attachment style. At the same time it was investigated the possibility to assess personalized training pathways focused on the promotion of meta-cognitive techniques arising from cognitive clinical psychology, that, once progressively inwarded, could be an useful instrument for the operator to manage the critical episodes with the users. The research, which was built as an intervention-research, was divided in two phases in which quantitative and qualitative instruments were used. The involved subjects were working to the "Progetto Piano Urbano", a psychiatric rehabilitation project on Milano territory. Each operator was involved in a short self-knowledge pathway, during which the data coming from the questionnaires administered in the first research phase were reported and discussed in suitable individual restitution interviews. In the first phase of the research each subject was asked to write a short self-description and to answer to Attachment, Burn-Out and Personal Beliefs. Moreover, in the second phase each subject was asked to relate about a critical and disabling episode happened on work place: the content of the interviews was analyzed in the purpose of identify the specific meta-cognitive skills showed by the subjects in the critical episode relation, particularly linked to the Meta-Cognitive Monitoring. A further analysis was performed on the questionnaires results restitution, aimed to observe the reaction to unespected or non-shared results. As for the self description, a quantitative and qualitative analysis was performed on the meanings system involved in the task fulfillment. The results analysis, besides showing the "personal profile" of each subject as for the considered variables, offers indications about the possibility to create personalized training pathways for extra-scholastic educators, focused not only on the self-consciousness of own psychological working, but also on the progressive inwarding of some meta-cognitive techniques, mostly used in therapeutics and clinics.

Résumé :
Now fully revised and updated with the latest imaging techniques and technology and covering even more conditions than before, this new edition of The ESC Textbook of Cardiovascular Imaging provides extensive coverage of all cardiovascular imaging modalities, and is produced in collaboration with the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging with contributions from specialists across the globe and edited by a distinguished team of experts. It not only discusses the principles of individual modalities but also clearly demonstrates the added value each technique can bring to the treatment of all cardiac diseases. Richly illustrated with colour figures, images, and tables and using a wealth of newly available evidence to link theory to practice, it demonstrates how these techniques can be used in the diagnosis of a range of cardiovascular diseases. Learning how to apply them in practice is made easy with videos and imaging loops online, and it contains information on cutting-edge technical developments in echocardiography, CT, CMR and hybrid imaging, as well as imaging's current role in cardiac interventions, such as identifying cardiac structures, helping to guide procedures and exclude possible complications. The application of imaging modalities in conditions such as valvular and coronary heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, peri-myocardial disease, adult congenital heart disease and aortic disease, is also extensively considered.

Résumé :
In ancient Greek mythology, the lyrical songs of Orpheus charmed the gods, and compelled animals, rocks, and trees to obey his commands. This mythic power inspired Renaissance philosophers and poets as they attempted to discover the hidden powers of verbal eloquence. They wanted to know: How do words produce action? This book examines the key role the Orpheus story played in helping early modern writers and thinkers understand the mechanisms of rhetorical force. The book demonstrates that the forms and figures of ancient poetry indelibly shaped the principles of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century scientific knowledge. It explores how Ovid's version of the Orpheus myth gave English poets and natural philosophers the lexicon with which to explain language's ability to move individuals without physical contact. These writers and thinkers came to see eloquence as an aesthetic force capable of binding, drawing, softening, and scattering audiences. Bringing together a range of examples from drama, poetry, and philosophy, the book demonstrates that the fascination with Orpheus produced some of the most canonical literature of the age. Delving into the impact of ancient Greek thought and poetry in the early modern era, the book sheds light on how the powers of rhetoric became a focus of English thought and literature.

Résumé :
By any metric, Cicero’s works are some of the most widely read in the history of Western thought. This book suggests that perhaps Cicero’s most lasting and significant contribution to philosophy lies in helping to inspire the development of liberalism. Individual rights, the protection of private property, and political legitimacy based on the consent of the governed are often taken to be among early modern liberalism’s unique innovations and part of its rebellion against classical thought. However, this book demonstrates that Cicero’s thought played a central role in shaping and inspiring the liberal republican project. Cicero argued that liberty for individuals could arise only in a res publica in which the claims of the people to be sovereign were somehow united with a commitment to universal moral law, which limits what the people can rightfully do. Figures such as Hugo Grotius, John Locke, and John Adams sought to work through the tensions in Cicero’s vision, laying the groundwork for a theory of politics in which the freedom of the individual and the people’s collective right to rule were mediated by natural law. This book traces the development of this intellectual tradition from Cicero’s original articulation through the American founding. It concludes by exploring how modern political ideas remain dependent on the conception of just politics first elaborated by Rome’s great philosopher-statesman.

Résumé :
This book reviews the first-hand experiences of men and women who provide a human perspective on issues that have shaped US engagement with China: politics and diplomacy, business and education, art and culture, journalism, law and human rights. It describes how, for them, China was more than just another place, it was an idea, a cause, a revolution, a civilization; some were born in China, others were motivated by curiosity and adventure; and some saw China as an existential threat, some as a socialist utopia, and others worked to improve US-China relations for non-ideological reasons. The book also chronicles Chinese Americans who wanted to help China overcome the poverty and humiliation of its past. Looming over the narratives presented in the book is the question of whether starkly different Chinese and Western worldviews could find common ground. Was it best to abide by Chinese norms, taking into account China’s unique history and culture? Or should individual civil and human rights be defended as universal? Would the PRC move in the direction of Western-style liberal democracy? Or was the Communist Party destined to continue on an authoritarian path? The figures in this book had distinctive answers to these questions. Their stories hold up a mirror to our two societies, helping to explain how we have arrived at the present moment.

Résumé :
Modernism and Non-Translation proposes a new way of reading key modernist texts, including the work of canonical figures such as T. S. Eliot, James Joyce, and Ezra Pound. The topic of this book is the incorporation of untranslated fragments from various languages within modernist writing. It explores non-translation in modernist fiction, poetry, and other forms, with a principally European focus. The intention is to begin to answer a question that demands collective expertise: what are the aesthetic and cultural implications of non-translation for modernist literature? How did non-translation shape the poetics, and cultural politics, of some of the most important writers of this period? Twelve essays by leading scholars of modernism explore American, British, and Irish texts, alongside major French and German writers, and the wider modernist recovery of Classical languages. They explore non-translation from the dual perspectives of both ‘insider’ and ‘outsider’, unsettling that false opposition, and articulating in the process their individuality of expression and experience. The range explored indicates something of the reach and vitality of the matter of translation—and specifically non-translation—across a selection of poetry, fiction, and non-fictional prose, while focusing on mainly canonical voices. Offering a series of case studies, the volume aims to encourage further exploration of connections across languages and among writers. Together, the collection seeks to provoke and extend debate on the aesthetic, cultural, political, and conceptual dimensions of non-translation as an important yet hitherto neglected facet of modernism, helping to redefine our understanding of that movement. It demonstrates the rich possibilities of reading modernism through instances of non-translation.

Résumé :
A powerful female, preadolescent, consumer demographic has emerged in tandem with girls becoming more visible in popular culture since the 1990s. Yet the cultural anxiety that this has caused has received scant academic attention. In Tweenhood, Melanie Kennedy rectifies this and examines mainstream, pre-adolescent girls’ films, television programmes and celebrities from 2004 onwards, including A Cinderella Story, Hannah Montana and Camp Rock. Her book forges a dialogue between post-feminism, film and television, celebrity and most importantly; the figure of the tween. Kennedy examines how these media texts, which are so key to tween culture, address and construct their target audience by helping them to ‘choose’ an appropriately feminine identity. Tweenhood then, she argues, is transient and a discursive construct whose unpacking highlights the deification of celebrity and femininity within its culture.

Contemporary technologies have impacted the teaching and learning of mathematics in significant ways, particularly through the incorporation of dynamic software and applets. Interactive geometry software such as Geometers Sketchpad (GSP) and GeoGebra has transformed students' ability to interact with the geometry of plane figures, helping visualize and verify conjectures. Similar to what GSP and GeoGebra have done for two-dimensional geometry in mathematics education, SketchUp™ has the potential to do for aspects of three-dimensional geometry. This chapter provides example cases, aligned with the Common Core State Standards in mathematics, for how the dynamic and unique features of SketchUp™ can be integrated into the K-12 mathematics classroom to support and aid students' spatial reasoning and knowledge of three-dimensional figures.

Over the course of the Reagan presidency, those who had written for National Review and Commentary shifted from their roles as policy analysts to putting their policy recommendations into practice as members of the foreign, domestic, and speechwriting staff in the Reagan administration. Figures like Jeane Kirkpatrick, Carl Gershman, Aram Bakshian, Anthony Dolan, and many others played a key role in the creation of one of the most ideological administrations in recent memory. While neither William F. Buckley Jr. nor Norman Podhoretz had active roles in the administration, their influence was nonetheless felt as those who had worked for them utilized their ideas and language in helping construct a consistent ideology that played a significant role in how rhetoric was designed and policy was implemented.

Résumé :
The 2008 economic recession is a primary example of popular social scientific authority helping manufacture a crisis. In the run-up to the recession a dominant, a vulgarized form of economic “science” taught millions of Americans that free-market policy was simply the objective, rational, and neutral way to build an economy. This chapter traces the rise of this popular form of economic authority and the way it pervaded political discourse through figures such as Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman, and Steven Levitt. One of the key metaphors of this scientistic approach to economy was that markets functioned like spontaneous equilibrium machines. This chapter critically scrutinizes the school choice or voucher movement as a case study for the overextension of free-market economic authority in the restructuring of democratic life. The result has been increased inequality.

Résumé :
Consider the following dialog situation. The computer is providing a human user with assistance in fixing an electronic circuit that causes a Light Emitting Diode (LED) to display in a certain way. The current focus of the task and dialog is to determine the status of a wire between labeled connectors 84 and 99, a wire needed for the circuit that is absent. Figures 3.1 and 3.2 show two possible dialog interactions that could occur at this point. In figure 3.1, the computer has total dialog control, and a total of 29 utterances are needed to guide the user through the rest of the dialog. In figure 3.2, the human user has overall dialog control, but the computer is allowed to provide direct assistance as needed (i.e. in helping add the wire). Only 11 utterances are needed for the experienced user to complete the dialog. These samples are from interactions with a working spoken natural language dialog system. To engage in such dialog interactions, a system must exhibit the behaviors mentioned at the beginning of chapter 1: (1) problem solving for providing task assistance, (2) conducting subdialogs to achieve appropriate subgoals, (3) exploiting user model to enable useful interactions, (4) exploiting context dependent expectations when interpreting user inputs, and (5) engaging in variable initiative dialogs. Achieving these behaviors while facilitating the measurement of system performance via experimental interaction requires a theory of dialog processing that integrates the following subtheories. • An abstract model of interactive task processing. • A theory about the purpose of language within the interactive task processing environment. • A theory of user model usage. • A theory of contextual interpretation. • A theory of variable initiative dialog. This chapter presents such a theory of dialog processing. Frequent reference to the dialog examples in figures 3.1 and 3.2 will guide the discussion. The first section discusses the overall system architecture that facilitates integrated dialog processing. The remainder of the chapter addresses each subtheory in turn, emphasizing how each fits into the overall architecture. The chapter concludes with a summary description of the integrated model.

Résumé :
Abstract The fifth chapter focuses on the body in movement. First, by cross-referencing textual data with iconographic testimony, it describes and analyses the general look (schēma) of the comic body, as it relates to the development of the genre. It also examines social and moral characterization through gesture, movement, deportment, and gait, thus helping to shed light upon the evolution of ancient acting. The chapter continues by exploring the articulation of visual and verbal signs in comedy performances by studying various examples of the visual and dramatic efficacy of the comic gesture, in particular in paratragic contexts. To conclude, it shows how incessant motion, whether real or imaginary, performed on stage or suggested by words, characterizes the comic body and the most ludicrous figures until the dawn of New Comedy, as they exhibit frantic activity and seem to be protean.

Using the tenets of child-centered play therapy, this chapter describes interventions that school-based mental health professionals can use to support bereaved children. Children’s reactions to death, and the interventions that professionals can use, vary based on their developmental stage. Strategies are presented for helping children process the early period of bereavement, facilitate a developmentally and culturally appropriate understanding of death, promote adjustment to changes in family constellation and dynamics, and memorialize loved ones. Instructions are provided for using play techniques to help children organize, make sense of, and express their losses in a concrete manner. The play interventions described in this chapter involve using a sand tray and miniature figures to help a child prepare for a memorial service and to start to understand the concept of death, using puppets to explore the changes in family dynamics that occur after a death, and creating a memorial book.

Résumé :
This chapter turns to the role of racial-ethnic identity-based campus organizations in helping or hindering students to manage feelings of being othered. Upon arrival on campus, racial-ethnic minority students find themselves dramatically outnumbered by White students, taught by largely White professors, and learning about White historical figures and artifacts. Because of the segregated nature of American K–12 schooling, this shift into suddenly being racially-ethnically outnumbered can be a significant challenge to campus integration. Mounting feelings of social isolation add an additional layer of stress atop an already difficult transition. Away from home for the first time, many minority students feel culturally lost as they begin their new life as college students. Students' perspectives on being othered ranged from feeling that their peers appreciated their differences to feeling stereotyped as the sole representative of their group. The extent to which they had counterspaces helped them process those feelings and celebrate their differences as diversity.

This chapter investigates the National Endowment for the Arts’s (NEA’s) jazz program, Expansion Arts division, Bicentennial fellowships for “jazz/folk/ethnic” artists, and Folk Arts division. While the NEA mirrored a policy of matching requirements in its Treasury grants—which supported predominantly symphony orchestras—it also provided several millions of dollars to otherwise underrepresented and undersupported artists and communities. Not only were the NEA’s officers keenly committed to helping jazz and folk music, but also they brought in experts from urban, suburban, and rural communities to work as program directors. Vantile Whitfield and A. B. Spellman—key figures in the black arts movement of the 1970s—became directors. These experts recruited panelists of a broader geographical, racial, and gender representation, and similarly funded more diverse musicians and artists. Compared to the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, which rarely provided funding to jazz or the music of minority communities, the government agency was a lifeline to otherwise unseen and unheard cultural practices.

Résumé :
This chapter explores the intimate relationship between new media literacy and the digital divide. The longer and deeper digital technology (DT) penetrates the fabric of society, the more it becomes connected to broader social concerns such as disadvantaged minorities, long-term poverty, access to resources or equal opportunities for all citizens. Contrary to initial expectations, DT is far from providing immediate responses to educational problems and even less, automatic relief to real world injustice; left to its own devices, it tends to reflect and increase existing forms of exclusion rather than ameliorate them. In order to address these issues, this chapter combines three major topics. Firstly, we summarize the argument on the closing vs. deepening digital divide. Physical access figures are presented according to adult and younger population, their socio-economic status and in relation to schools. Secondly, more recent findings are shown, dealing with the quality and use of the Internet by pupils. Thirdly, a more general reflection is introduced in relation to the role of schools and intervention strategies for implementing sustainable educational projects aimed at helping to improve social participation in a society for all.

Résumé :
E-tailing is gaining momentum in Australia as traditional retailers are moving towards the adoption of a clicks and bricks strategy. Electronic retailing or E-tailing can be described as selling goods to customers directly through electronic means. Although this Business-to-Consumer phenomenon is not new, it is helping retailers to conduct business online with virtual storefronts and to reach local and global customers who are disadvantaged by geographical and other distinct barriers. This chapter starts by detailing the current state of e-tailing with supporting statistical figures from recent research with a specific emphasis on Australia. Overall growth in Internet accessibility rates across Australia clearly demonstrate e-tailing’s importance to online customers. Literature review once again proves the fact that Internet not only creates opportunities for retailers but also poses many challenges. Further discussion provides an understanding of the suitability of the retailing channel for different products and services. This study then analyses the usability of Australia’s top twenty-five retailers’ websites focussing on website usability factors, such as navigation, searchability, purchasing, layout and clarity, information content, and web browser compatibility. Australia’s e-tailing initiatives might be lagging behind most developed markets, however recent research indicates that there is a significant growth in this online activity and it will continue to attract more and more online customers in the coming years as retailers jump on the e-tailing bandwagon.

By creating this application we intended to realize: a. a unitary database for the dance practitioners and for the specialists in the dance sport domain; b. a platform easy to use by those mentioned above, to access the figures of dance sport; c. a way to allow all the dancers and specialists, equally, to bring their contribution to the development of the dance; d. a unitary and coherent evaluating database of the dancers by the judges. So, we have estimated that this application will have a beneficial effect of training the dancers, helping them to learn the figures and the necessary technique to realize them. We have also started from the premise that it will be a tool for the dance instructors, trainers and choreographers, to whom will facilitate the selection of the dance figures and the construction of the choreography. It will create a common language and a unique evaluating system of the dancers, by the judges, during the competitions. It will allow to all the people involved in dance, to bring their contribution to its development and evolution. The application was intended to be a tool for those who want to learn, to participate in the exams and training programs, organized by RDSF and by the Ministry of Education and Sports. The users aim to be instructors, trainers or judges. The application was created as a single page application. It was written using HTML 5 and JavaScript programming language with mvc technology (model-view-controller) and it uses a MySQL database. It was posted on a public server, the access being made by using a password. Each of the RDSF boards and colleges ordered a group of specialists which had access to this password, through which they accessed the information from the application. Therefore, they had the opportunity to access the information, modifying the parameters of the dance figures, according to their personal experience and imagination. In this manner, there have resulted changes of the parameters of the figures, making them more dynamic and look more expressive and interesting.

Résumé :
Group work or cooperative learning is a form of active learning that has potential benefits that extend beyond just being an alternative or improved way of learning course material. For example, Shimazoe and Aldrich (2010) identified six proposed benefits of active learning to students, namely (1) promoting deep learning, (2) helping students earn higher grades, (3) teaching social skills & civic values, (4) teaching higher order thinking skills, (5) promoting personal growth and (6) developing positive attitudes toward autonomous learning. There is evidence for the effectiveness of role-plays both in achieving learning outcomes (Azman, Musa, & Mydin, 2018; Craciun, 2010; Latif, Mumtaz, Mumtaz, & Hussain, 2018; McSharry & Jones, 2000; Yang, Kim, & Noh, 2010), but also in developing desirable graduate attributes such as teamwork, communication and problem solving skills [4]. The importance of such skills is widely touted by employers of science graduates, sometimes more so than discipline-specific knowledge, arguing in favour of the incorporation of role-plays and other forms of cooperative learning into undergraduate science curricula. Role-playing is probably not as widely used in the physical and life sciences as it is in other academic disciplines. In science the most obvious role-play scenarios in which students play the roles of people might be in examining historical figures at the centre of famous scientific discoveries or debates (Odegaard, 2003). In addition, role-plays fit well at the interface between science and other discipline when exploring ethical, legal or commercial implications of scientific discoveries(Chuck, 2011). However, to apply role-play to core topics in science or mathematics the roles that must be played are not those of people but rather of things like particles, forces, elements, atoms, numbers, laws, equations, molecules, cells, organs and so on. The learning scenarios for science-based roleplays in which the characters represented are not people are less obvious, probably explaining why the use of role-plays in science education is less common. Nevertheless, focusing on the life sciences, role-plays in which the characters are organelles in a cell or enzymes involved in fundamental cellular processes like DNA replication, RNA transcription and protein translation have been described for example (Cherif, Siuda, Dianne M. Jedlicka, & Movahedzadeh, 2016; Takemura & Kurabayashi, 2014). The communication of discipline-specific templates and successful models for the application of role-playing in science education is likely to encourage their wider adoption. Here I describe a videoed group role-play assignment that has been developed over a ten-year period of reflective teaching practice. I suggest that this model of videoed group role-plays is a useful cooperative learning format that will allow learners to apply their varied creativity and talents to exploring and explaining diverse scientific topics while simultaneously developing their teamwork skills.

Résumé :
Abstract Production management in mature fields is a very challenging task which involves a multidisciplinary technical approach to minimize the decline rate and extend the life of the asset/field. Most of the time Integrated Asset Modeling (IAM) techniques are applied to green fields with main objectives of identifying the “bottlenecks” or to forecast production with different development cases. In the case of mature fields it is mostly considered as an optional study with less analytical value due to low operating surface pressures, already existing facilities, known well performance and studied reservoir geology. Nevertheless the processing of the reservoir, production and operational data in mature assets through one integrated workflow facilitates field management overall, thereby helping in the estimation of the remaining reserves and indicating real opportunities for optimization not seen by initial engineering scenarios. Additionally, IAM should be incorporated before getting to EOR studies. This paper describes the applied reservoir engineering workflow and integrated production model for the TSP fields (Teak, Samaan and Poui) located in the South East of Trinidad. TSP fields are jointly owned by by Repsol (70%), Petrotrin (15%) and NGC (15%) and are operated by Repsol. Current production of TSP is 13, 500 bopd. The oil produced from these fields is generally light oil, with an average range of 25-40 API and a solution GOR 200-1400scf/stb. Gas lift is the artificial lift system used in 95% of the wells. Average water cut is around 85%. Interaction of Production Engineering, Subsurface, Drilling, HSE, Facilities, and Maintenance departments is the key aspect to sustain the efficient operability of the TSP fields and operate at peak performance in spite of ageing installations, flow assurance problems and depleted reservoirs. The implementation of Operated Asset Structure in TSP in 2013 reinforced the cooperation between departments to achieve the main goals: minimum production deferrals, production optimization, screening of new opportunities and reserves, process improvement, facilities maintenance and effective logistics. Additionally, the Integrated Asset Modeling has been incorporated as part of the engineering surveillance which includes 3 fields, 100 wells, gas lift injection network, gas compressors, water treatment plant, etc. Real data from different sources and platforms, such as pressure temperature sensors, daily measured well parameters, reported operational figures, monthly welltests and screened remaining reserves are jointly transferred to the integrated model, built in commercial software (GAP/RESOLVE), bringing the field data processing and production management to the state-of-the-art level. Gas lift volume availability and system pressure, performed rigless intervention jobs (including recompletion of new zones), change of the fluid composition in certain wells, reconfiguration of facilities are timely reflected in the TSP integrated model. Based on the sensitivity runs and output results immediate actions are taken to comply with the production target.

Résumé :
Abstract Dvalin field, discovered in 2010-2012. The location of this field is in the Norwegian Sea, as shown in (Figure 1). Dvalin field is an HPHT gas field in Middle Jurassic sandstone in the Garn and Ile Formations – the former being homogeneous with better reservoir properties, during the later heterogenous with low quality. (DVALIN, 2020) The well 6507/7-Z-2 H objective is to produce hydrocarbons from the Jurassic reservoir section of the Dvalin field safely and cost-effectively. The well was planned to be drilled near vertical in the reservoir section and TD'ed at a maximum depth corresponding to the Garn Formation base. After the productivity results from Z-3-H well came in at the low end of expectations, it was evaluated and decided to change the well profile of the Z-2-H well from vertical reservoir penetration to a horizontal profile; to have two penetrations with a minimum of 150m MD separation in the upper high permeable streak and then drop to penetrate lower high permeable streak. This decision was conducted only three days before starting the 17.5-inch section on the subject well. One Team culture was the key to achieving this significant change successfully. The decision to change the well-profile was conducted after a thorough engineering evaluation, including offset well analysis, which was very limited as the closest horizontal well was more than 40 km away. As the well was not planned as a horizontal well, departure between the surface location and Target Easting & Northing was minimal. Therefore, a high turn and deeper inclination build were required, which added some complexity to the well design. One of the additional primary risks related to this change of trajectory design is deploying a more complex BHA design in the reservoir section with a full suite of LWD technologies run in an HT environment. In the planning phase, special consideration was needed to accurately simulate the expected circulating temperature and have proper procedures in place for temperature management and control. Being the first horizontal well in the field, thus detailed planning was key for successful execution. Ultra-Deep Azimuthal Resistivity Tool (UDAR) Reservoir-Mapping capability was considered to help optimize the landing and navigate within the reservoir section. A feasibility study was conducted, and a 2-receiver Ultra Deep Azimuthal Resistivity Tool BHA configuration was selected and deployed. During the execution, the Ultra Deep Azimuthal Resistivity Tool real-time inversion mapped the reservoir geometry, revealing resistive layers within the Garn formation, thereby facilitating optimal placement of the well to achieve the set objectives. The well execution was largely considered flawless, with the real-time Ultra Deep Azimuthal Resistivity Tool data and corresponding interpretations facilitating decisions.

Résumé :
This work deals with neural network-based gait-pattern adaptation algorithm for an active orthosis. The proposed device is developed for lower limbs and based on a commercially available orthosis, Figure 1. Active orthoses can be designed for helping physically weak or injured people during rehabilitation procedures [1]. The robotic orthosis Lokomat is being recently used for rehabilitation of patients with stroke or spinal cord injury individuals [2]. Gait-pattern adaptation algorithms are proposed by Riener, et. al [3], considering the human-machine interaction. The algorithms in Riener, et. al [3] were developed for a fixed base robotic system; they can not be applied directly in the proposed orthosis, since no stability of the gait pattern is considered. A trajectory generator for biped robots taking into account the ZMP (Zero Moment Point) criterion is presented in Huang, et al. [4]. This method presents suitable results with smooth and second-order differentiable curves.

Résumé :
Abstract The South Oman clusters A and B have reclassified their Deep-Water Disposal wells (DWD) into water injection (WI) wells. This is a novel concept where the excess treated water will be used in the plantation of additional reed beds (Cluster A) and the farming of palm trees (Cluster B), as well as act as pressure support for nearby fields. This will help solve multiple issues at different levels namely helping the business achieve its objective of sustained oil production, helping local communities with employment and helping the organization care for the environment by reducing carbon footprints. This reclassification covers a huge water volume in Field-A and Field-B where 60,000 m3/day and 40,000 m3/day will be injected respectively in the aquifer. The remaining total excess volume of approx. 200,000m3/d will be used for reed beds and Million Date Palm trees Project. The approach followed for the reclassification and routing of water will: Safeguard the field value (oil reserves) by optimum water injectionMaintain the cap-rock integrity by reduced water injection into the aquifer.Reduce GHG intensity by ±50% as a result of (i) reduced power consumption to run the DWD pumps and (ii) the plantation of trees (reed beds and palm trees).Generate ICV (in-country value) opportunities in the area of operations for the local community to use the excess water at surface for various projects.Figure 1DWD Reclassification benefits Multiple teams (subsurface. Surface, operations), interfaces and systems have been associated to reflect the re-classification project. This was done through collaboration of different teams and sections (i.e. EC, EDM, SAP, Nibras, OFM, etc). Water injection targets and several KPIs have been incorporated in various dashboards for monitoring and compliance purposes. Figure 2Teams Integration and interfaces It offers not only a significant boost to the sustainability of the business, but also pursues PDO's Water Management Strategy to reduce Disposal to Zero by no later than the year 2030 This paper will discuss how the project was managed, explain the evaluation done to understand the extent of the pressure support in nearby fields from DWD and the required disposal rate to maintain the desired pressures. Historically, industry standards were formatted with the intention of being distributed in print. This changed with the evolution of new electronic formats, and now most standards are available in PDF or EPUB. While progressive at the time, these formats are now proving inadequate due their optimization for readability by the human eye versus consumption by electronic endpoints. The new regulations, Part 195 Section 195.452, require that special integrity assessments be made to address potential seam-defect problems in low-frequency-welded ERW (electric-resistance-welded) pipe materials where a failure of such materials could have an impact on a high-consequence area (HCA). The spirit of this requirement appears to require action if, and only if, significant seam-related deficiencies are in evidence or if they can be reasonably anticipated. This leaves open the option of categorizing these types of pipelines by performance such that potentially problematic pipeline segments can be subjected to special (i.e., seam-quality) inspections while those that show little or no propensity for such problems can be subjected to metal loss and deformation inspections only. This document is intended to establish a systematic procedure to permit an operator to characterize the relevant ERW pipe segments as to the likelihood of significant seam-related deficiencies. The author is particularly grateful to Rich Turley of Marathon Ashland Pipe Line LLC for helping to formulate the essential steps in deciding when an integrity assessment is needed. Rich made significant inputs to Figure 1 of this document.
