Résumé :
In order to solve the problem that the three-phase current of the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) contains the 11th and 13th current harmonics, a multiple synchronous rotating frame transformation (MSRFT)-based current harmonic suppression method is established. Firstly, the influencing factors of current harmonics in IPMSM vector control are analyzed, and the influence mechanism of the inverter’s dead-time effect and the permanent magnet flux linkage harmonics on the current harmonics is described. Secondly, a simple current harmonic extraction method is proposed by optimizing the traditional current harmonic extraction method based on MSRFTs. The proposed method achieves the accurate extraction of the current harmonic components. Thirdly, a harmonic voltage generation method is established and is combined with the proposed current harmonic extraction method to form a current harmonic suppression strategy. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified via MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experiments. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed current harmonic extraction method can extract the current harmonic components accurately, and the proposed current harmonic suppression strategy can suppress the 11th and 13th current harmonics effectively.

Résumé :
When the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is running, there are abundant harmonics in the stator current. In order to achieve the suppression of current harmonics, the current harmonic extraction method and current harmonic controller are studied in this paper. Firstly, a simple and accurate method for extracting current harmonics is proposed by means of multiple synchronous rotating frame transformation (MSRFT). Secondly, an improved deadbeat predictive control (IDPC) based current harmonic controller is designed after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of traditional current harmonic controllers. Thirdly, IDPC-based current harmonic suppression strategy is proposed by combining the proposed current harmonic extraction method and the proposed current harmonic controller. The proposed strategy can still effectively achieve current harmonic suppression when the motor runs at low speed, medium speed and high speed and the controller parameters are mismatched with the motor parameters. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy are verified by simulation and experiments.

Résumé :
With the further development of harmonic pollution in the power system, scientists have carried out research on harmonics. Among them, harmonic detection is the first step in harmonic research. In this paper, a harmonic detection method based on an observer is proposed. This method first uses the cascaded Second-Order Generalized Integration (SOGI) algorithm, which can filter the Direct Current (DC) component of the input signal to extract the fundamental frequency, and then uses a time-varying observer to extract the harmonics. This can be used to extract harmonics from a distorted online grid signal. The effectiveness of the proposed method was evaluated on the Speedgoat Rapid Control Prototype (RCP) platform. The results show that it can complete the convergence within 0.05 s, and the standard deviation after stability will not exceed 1%.

Résumé :
Harmonic estimation is essential for mitigating or suppressing harmonic distortions in power systems. The most important idea is that spectrum analysis, waveform estimation, harmonic source classification, source location, the determination of harmonic source contributions, data clustering, and filter-based harmonic elimination capacity are also considered. The feature extraction method is a fundamental component of the optimization that improves the effectiveness of the Harmonic Mitigation method. In this study, techniques to extract fundamental frequencies and harmonics in the frequency domain, the time domain, and the spatial domain include 67 literature reviews and an overall assessment. The combinations of signal processing with artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are also reviewed and evaluated in this study. The benefit of the feature extraction methods is that the analysis extracts the powerful basic information of the feedback signals from the sensors with the most redundancy, ensuring the highest efficiency for the next sampling process of algorithms. This study provides an overview of the fundamental frequency and harmonic extraction methods of recent years, an analysis, and a presentation of their advantages and limitations.

Résumé :
Harmonic interference is a major hazard in the current power system that affects power quality. How to extract harmonics quickly and accurately is the premise to ensure the sustainable operation of power system, which is particularly important in the field of new energy power generation. In this paper, a harmonic extraction method based on a time-varying observer is proposed. Firstly, a frequency estimation algorithm is used to estimate the power grid current frequency, which can estimate the frequency in real time. Then, applying the zero-crossing detection method to convert the frequency into a phase variable. Finally, using the phase variable and integral current signal as input, a observer is modeled to extract each order harmonic component. The proposed method is evaluated on a FGPA test platform, which shows that the method can extract the harmonic components of the grid current and converge within 80 ms even in the presence of grid distortions. In the verification case, the relative errors of the 1st, 5th, 7th and 11th harmonics are 0.005%, −0.003%, 0.251% and 0.620%, respectively, which are sufficiently small.

Résumé :
The current signal harmonic detection method(s) cannot reduce the errors in the analysis and extraction of mixed harmonics in the power grid. This paper designs a harmonic detection method based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) using Bartlett–Hann window function. It improves the detection accuracy of the existing methods in the low frequency steady-state part. In addition, it also separates the steady harmonics from the attenuation harmonics of the high frequency part. Simulation results show that the proposed harmonic detection method improves the detection accuracy of the steady-state part by 1.5175% compared to the existing method. The average value of low frequency steady-state amplitude detection of the proposed method is about 95.3375%. At the same time, the individual harmonic components of the signal are accurately detected and recovered in the high frequency part, and separation of the steady-state harmonics and the attenuated harmonics is achieved. This method is beneficial to improve the ability of harmonic analysis in the power grid.

Résumé :
The existence of harmonics will cause the quality of power supply in a power system to decline and will affect the normal use of the power system. Therefore, it is important to suppress harmonics in the power system, and the first step of harmonic suppression is harmonic detection. To address this phenomenon, a fast harmonic detection method is proposed in this paper. It is based on the input observer theory to construct a state space model based on the original signal and harmonic components and estimate the state variables so as to achieve harmonic extraction. The characteristic roots are used to prove the convergence of the observer. In addition, the Second-Order Generalized Integration (SOGI) frequency estimation method is chosen to cascade with it so that harmonic detection can be accomplished with unknown frequencies. The simulation results prove that the proposed method can quickly converge and accurately extract each harmonic in the case of fluctuations in the fundamental amplitude, fundamental frequency and phase of the input signal, and the whole process can be completed in 0.02 s. The possible effects of white noise on harmonic extraction are also simulated, and the results prove that the accuracy of harmonic extraction can still be guaranteed in the presence of white noise. By using the Speedgoat real-time target machine built Rapid Control Prototype (RCP) as a testbed, experiments with similar simulation conditions were performed. The results show that the method has fast and accurate harmonic detection performance.

Résumé :
Magnetic resonance sounding (MRS) is a non-invasive, direct, and quantitative geophysical method for detecting groundwater, and has been widely used in groundwater survey, water resource assessment, and disaster water source forecasting. However, the MRS signal is weak (nV level) and highly susceptible to environmental noise, such as random noise and power-line harmonics, resulting in reduced quality of received data. Achieving reliable extraction of MRS signals under strong noise is difficult. To solve this problem, we propose a matching pursuit algorithm based on sparse decomposition theory for data noise suppression and MRS signal extraction. In accordance with the characteristics of the signal and noise, an oscillating atomic library is constructed as a sparse dictionary to realize signal sparse decomposition. A two-step denoising strategy is proposed to reconstruct the power-line harmonics and then extract the MRS signal. We simulated synthetic data with different signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), relaxation times, and Larmor frequencies. Our results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively remove power-line harmonics and reduce random noise. SNR is significantly improved by up to 35.6 dB after denoising. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm are further verified by the measured data and through comparison with the singular spectrum analysis algorithm and harmonic modeling cancellation algorithm.

Résumé :
An enhanced harmonics extraction algorithm based on Instantaneous Power (PQ) Theory is proposed for indirect current controlled (ICC) three-level neutral point diode clamped (NPC) inverter-based shunt active power filter (SAPF). SAPF is famous in current harmonics mitigation for its flexibility in dealing with dynamic state conditions. As for its controller, PQ Theory has served the major role in harmonics extraction algorithm due to its simple implementation features. However, it suffers from serious time delay due to its dependency on sluggish numerical filters. Furthermore, the algorithm is mostly designed to suit the operation of direct current controlled (DCC) SAPF which requires the knowledge of actual SAPF current (injection current). This leads to inaccurate mitigation as the injection current does not possess the exact information on actual source current which suffers from switching ripples problems. Therefore, two major modifications are introduced involving the development of mathematical average algorithm to replace numerical filter for fundamental real power computation and the formation of mathematical current relationship to change DCC to ICC based operation. The proposed algorithm is developed and evaluated in MATLAB/Simulink. From the simulation results, significant improvement in terms of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and response time is presented in comparison to conventional algorithm.

Résumé :
Power quality is a major consideration in all office equipment, manufacturies and residential home appliances. Harmonic distortion is one of the crucial power quality issues. In order to mitigate the harmonic distortion, the performance of shunt active power filter (SAPF) is judged in terms of the accuracy and response time of its designed controller. In this context, the controller consists of three parts: harmonic extraction, switching control, and DC-link capacitor. The harmonic extraction technique serves the major role of deriving the required reference current to ensure successful mitigation of current harmonics by SAPF. Among the existing techniques, harmonic extraction algorithms based on time-domain approaches are most widely applied as they offer simple implementation features with increased speed and reduced computational burden. This paper presents detailed investigation and analysis regarding the performance of two famous time-domain harmonic extraction techniques namely, synchronous reference frame (SRF) and instantaneous power (PQ) theory. Extensive simulation work is conducted in MATLAB-Simulink platform under two conditions, which are, steady-state conditions and dynamic-state conditions, considering various highly nonlinear loads. For evaluation purposes, each control algorithm is incorporated into the controller of a three-phase SAPF, developed using a three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) inverter. Comprehensive results are provided to confirm mitigation performance of the SAPF utilizing each harmonic extraction algorithm.

Résumé :
Identification of harmonic sources contributing to harmonic distortion, and characterization of harmonic current injected by them, are crucial tasks in harmonic analysis of modern power systems. In this paper, these tasks are addressed based on the permissible current limits recommended by IEEE 519 Standard, with a determination of whether or not injected harmonics are within these limits. If limits are violated, the extent of the violations are characterized to provide information about harmonic current levels in the power system and facilitate remedial actions if necessary. A novel feature extraction method is proposed, whereby each set of harmonic measurements in a power system are transformed into a unique RGB image. Harmonic State Estimation (HSE) is discretized as a classification problem. Classifiers based on deep learning have been developed to subsequently locate and characterize harmonic sources. The approach has been demonstrated effectively both on the IEEE 14-bus system, and on a real transmission network where harmonics have been measured. A comparative study indicates that the proposed technique outperforms state-of-the-art techniques for HSE, including Bayesian Learning (BL), Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and hybrid Genetic Algorithm Least Square (GALS) method in terms of accuracy and limited number of monitors.

Résumé :
Advancement in technology has resulted in increased use of electrical energy. The trend of using energy-saving appliances is also increased considerably. Harmonic currents have been increased in power systems due to the large-scale use of nonlinear loads. Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is the most widely used technique for the compensation of current harmonics. Under adverse grid conditions performance of SAPF is affected badly. In this paper, a modified synchronous reference frame theory is proposed for current reference generation by incorporating an advanced phase-locked loop technique for the estimation of frequency and phase. The proposed approach results in an accurate extraction of reference current in the presence of various grid disturbances. Matlab/Simulink environment is used for evaluating the performance. The results achieved show excellent performance of the proposed technique in terms of reducing harmonics distortion and dynamic response. The total harmonics distortion of the compensated source current is reduced to a value well within the limits of the IEEE-519 standard.

Résumé :
The accurate extraction and analysis of slot harmonics caused by slotting in an induction motor are important for the motor’s performance evaluation and state monitoring. However, the frequency distribution of rotor slot harmonics (RSHs) varies along with the operating states of the motor, such as motor speed and slip ratio, and the voltage and current signals of the motor only contain small-amplitude RSHs compared with other harmonics; both make it difficult to extract and analyze the RSHs accurately online. While offline extraction and filters with constant parameters are mainly utilized in available works, a novel adaptive extraction method for RSHs in a multiphase induction motor is proposed here to realize online RSH extraction under different speed and load conditions. In this paper, the RSHs in the multiphase induction motors are firstly modeled by using the magnetic potential permeability method, and the influence of a skewed rotor on RSHs is analyzed through a multisection method. Then, an adaptive extraction method of RSHs is proposed, which can effectively realize the online processing of RSHs of stator current. Finally, the experimental platform of a nine-phase induction motor has been used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method under different speeds and load conditions, with a relative error of less than 1% in identifying the RSH frequency distribution.

Résumé :
Multiple reflections and nonlinearity of phase modulating need to be compensated to accurately profile the surface of the glass plate using wavelength-modulated interferometry. In this study, to assess the glass plate surface using wavelength-modulated interferometry, a new phase-iterative method insensitive to the harmonic signals and nonlinear errors was developed. We developed the harmonic phase-iterative method by combining the phase-iterative method with irradiance signal considering the harmonic components. Moreover, for suppression of the harmonic-related errors in the iterative calculation, the noble pixel-selection technique and convergence formula were combined with the phase-iterative method. For estimation of the developed iterative method, we conducted the numerical simulation and assessed the glass plate surface with the Fizeau interferometer. The simulation and assessment results demonstrated that the proposed method could perform phase extraction with improved iterative calculation and suppression of the effects of the harmonics and nonlinearity.

Résumé :
In this paper, the hysteresis current control (HCC) technique based on space vector modulation (SVM) for active power filter (APF) is proposed. The switching control algorithms of the HCC based SVM manage to generate compensated current according to the reference current. Harmonics extraction is calculated for the power compensation based on the instantaneous active and reactive power theorem in time domain. A closed loop control system is carried out and the APF manages to generate better compensated harmonics currents to the power grid.

Résumé :
Abstract With the use of a large number of power electronic equipment, the harmonics in the power grid are becoming more and more serious. There are many methods for harmonic mitigation and optimization such as Global network Optimization. When there are many nodes, the global network optimization method is more complicated. Considering the problem of large numbers of harmonic injection nodes in the power grid, this paper proposes a method of clustering the voltage distortion nodes according to correlation, and using the characteristic nodes to describe the harmonic voltage distortion in the region to mitigate harmonic voltage. This method is based on the observation data of the voltage distortion of the nodes for dynamic selection and grouping. The results show that this method meets the needs of Global network Optimization. The data processing methods used in this paper such as feature extraction methods and time series interpolation optimization can effectively reduce the data dimension, and get better optimization effect.

Résumé :
Lined anti-corrosion pipes are widely used in oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical industries. However, defects, especially delamination, may occur in the production and service of pipes which result in safety accidents. Based on nonlinear ultrasonic theory, this paper studied the delamination detection method using the nonlinear harmonics for lined anti-corrosion pipes. The response characteristics of the anti-corrosion pipe were obtained through a sweep sine response experiment and the preferred excitation frequency was determined. The Wavelet Packet transform and Hilbert–Huang transform is applied for signal process and feature extraction. Then, a series of experiments were carried out and the results were analyzed and discussed. The results showed that a second-order and third-order nonlinear coefficient increased with the delamination damage. The amplitude of second-harmonic is much stronger than the third-order one. The mean squared error of the nonlinear coefficient, which was processed by Wavelet Packet transform and Hilbert–Huang transform, is smaller than wavelet packet transform and Discrete Fourier transform or processed only Hilbert–Huang transform. The higher harmonics can describe the change of delamination damage, which means that the nonlinear ultrasonic detection method could use for damage detection of anti-corrosion pipe. The nonlinear higher-harmonic is sensitive to delamination damage. The nonlinear ultrasonic method has the potential for damage detection for lined anti-corrosion pipes.

Résumé :
As for the wide application of arc suppression coil to the grounding in neutral point of mine high voltage grid, grid leakage fault rules and harmonic characteristics of the neutral point grounding system through arc suppression coil are analyzed, the selective leakage protection program “zero-sequence voltage starts, fifth harmonics of grid zerosequence voltage and zero-sequence current are extracted for phase comparison” is proposed, and corresponding fifth harmonic extraction circuit and power direction discrimination circuit are designed. The experimental results show that the protective principle applies not only to the neutral point insulated power supply system, but also to the power supply system in which neutral point passes arc suppression coil, which can solve selective leakage protection problems under different neutral grounding ways, improving the reliability of selective leakage and guaranteeing the stability of the action value.

Résumé :
This paper deals with the control of distribution energy resource (DER) connected to a grid connected system feeding nonlinear loads. The DER is controlled to provide power quality improvement capabilities, namely, power factor correction, harmonic reduction, and load balancing. The developed controller is based on modification of synchronous reference theory. It possesses unique features such as filtration and fundamental voltage extraction from the polluted grid voltages to eliminate harmonics and unbalance. Additionally, the control is implemented over the square of DC link voltage. The distributed generation source is realized as a voltage source converter. Both simulation and experimental results prove the effectiveness of control algorithm with nonlinear loads. The control algorithm works well for power factor correction, harmonic reduction, and operation under unbalanced load condition. The dynamics of the system under load change and load unbalancing are well depicted.

Résumé :
Sparse decomposition has been widely used in gear local fault diagnosis due to its outstanding performance in feature extraction. The extraction results depend heavily on the similarity between dictionary atoms and fault feature signal. However, the transient impact signal aroused by gear local defect is usually submerged in meshing harmonics and noise. It is still a challenging task to construct high-quality impact dictionary for complex actual signal. To handle this issue, a novel impact feature extraction method based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and sparse decomposition is proposed in this paper. Firstly, EMD is employed to adaptively decompose the original signal into several Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs). The high-frequency resonance component is separated from meshing harmonics and part of the noise. Then, the IMF with the prominent impact features is selected as the Main Intrinsic Mode Function (MIMF) based on the kurtosis. Accordingly, the modal parameters required for impact dictionary are identified from the MIMF by correlation filtering. Finally, the transient impact component is extracted from the original signal by Match Pursuit (MP). The proposed method was adequately evaluated by a gear local fault simulation signal, and the single-stage gearbox and five-speed transmission experiments. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method is validated by comparison with other feature extraction techniques.

Résumé :
Convolution sparse representation (CSR) is a novel compressive sensing technique proposed in 2016 and provides an excellent framework for extracting the impulses induced by bearing faults and the unevenness of wheel tread. However, its sparsity performance on extracting impulses is sensitive to the improper penalty parameter. So, a novel fault detection method, appropriately sparse impulse extraction, is proposed based on the combination of CSR, estimating the number of atom types (ENA), and crest factor. The type of atoms embedded in vibration signals is estimated by ENA. Aiming at the different types of atoms, the impulses with different sparse characteristic are spanned by CSR with different penalty parameters. The appropriately sparse impulses are selected for fault detection based on the maximal crest factor. The simulation validation, experiment verification, and practical application are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed appropriately sparse impulses extraction. These results show that the proposed appropriately sparse impulse extraction not only can obtain fault-characteristic frequency and its harmonics for fault judgment but also describes the dynamic behaviour between elementary defects and their matching surfaces. In addition, the proposed appropriately sparse impulse extraction can isolate the impulses with different types of atoms and is very suitable for detecting the wheelset bearing faults.

Résumé :
In this work, a general spherical harmonics method for the extraction of anisotropic pair distribution functions (PDFs) is described. In the structural study of functional crystallized materials, there is an urgent need for investigation of local structures under the application of external stimuli, such as an electric field and stress. A well established technique for local structural studies is PDF analysis, but the extraction of X-ray PDF data is usually based on angular integrations of isotropic X-ray structure functions, which is no longer valid for the anisotropic responses of materials under orientation-dependent stimuli. Therefore, an advanced spherical harmonics method has been developed, to transform 2D X-ray total-scattering data into anisotropic PDF data on the basis of the 3D diffraction geometry and a Fourier transform. The electric-field-induced local structural change in PbZr0.54Ti0.46O3 ceramics is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.
