In the 2nd century CE, Roman emperors took decisions on several cases involving slaves who had been brutally treated by their masters. Such masters had to accept that their slaves would be sold, and in some cases they themselves were even punished, e.g. by being temporarily exiled. In the early 3rd century Ulpian construed a new crime from this context, namely saevitia dominorum, to be punished extraordinarily. Diocletian undermined this in a rescript to a soldier, and Constantine openly allowed masters to punish their slaves just as they liked. Even if a punishment lead to the slave’s dead, he forbade investigation against the masters. Both the Visigothic Lex Romana and Justinian tried to come to compromises, which continued even into Frankish times, although the results were inconsistent. Only the Judeo-Christian Collatio preserved Ulpian’s concept of a new crime, but the secular lawyers took no notice of this text, whereas medieval clerical jurists did.

ABSTRACT A series of experiments involving herders and ISB (designated HISB) were conducted at sea on 14th – 15th June 2016, near the Frigg Field in the North Sea. The primary objective of the experiments described in this paper was to demonstrate, at near-full scale, the use of herders followed by in situ burning (ISB) in open water conditions and validate the findings of an earlier field study of herders in conjunction with ISB. Two experimental releases of 6 m3 (approximately 40 barrels) and one of 4 m3 of Grane Blend crude oil were undertaken. The released oil spread out differently on the sea surface in each of the slicks due to slight variations in release conditions and prevailing wind conditions. Herder (ThickSlick 6535) was applied around two of the slicks by spraying from a small boat; a third slick was not herded before ignition. In the first test, approximately 80% of the total amount of thick oil was herded to form a coherent slick with an average oil layer thickness of approximately 3 mm to 5 mm. The second herded slick accounted for 40% of the amount of oil released and resulted in an average layer thickness of approximately 2 mm to 3 mm present as several discrete areas of thick oil. The average oil layer thickness in the non-herded slick was 2.5 mm to 3 mm (under very calm weather conditions) and this slick had also been broken up into several discrete areas of thick oil. Ignition with gelled gasoline igniters was carried out approximately one hour after oil release. All three slicks were successfully ignited. Approximately 3.4 m3 of the available oil in the first herded slick was consumed in three distinct burns, while the second herded slick consumed 0.8 m3 of oil in only one burn. The remaining test involving an unherded slick consumed approximately 1.2 m3 of oil in three burns.

ON 3 October 2004, APN News and Media, owners of the New Zealand Herald launched a Sunday paper. The Herald on Sunday arrived as a major competitor for the Fairfax-owned Sunday Star-Times and Sunday News. The first issue featured a group photo of eager-looking new staff. Missing from their news coverage, however, was a timely story about media ownership and democracy. Ten days earlier, journalists at the weekday New Zealand Herald had announced plans for court action against their employers. APN had refused to extend the New Zealand Herald collective agreement to workers on the Sunday edition. This story began on July 30 with APN’s decision to launch the new paper.

A pesar de ser Iparralde un territorio que ha hecho aportes relevantes en la historia del Audiovisual vasco, hasta hoy no se han dado condiciones para desarrollar una filmografía normalizada. En estas lineas, estudiaremos primero la historia de los realizadores vasco-continentales “exiliados” del país, seguidamente analizaremos las obras realizadas por extranjeros en Iparralde y finalmente, esbozaremos una historia de la producción vasca. Tratándose de un tema apenas estudiado, este trabajo pretende ser una primera aproximación histórica, cartografía de una relación tan fructifera como asimétrica.

Two dailies in the same city, the Miami Herald and the News, with widely differing circulations and geographical distributions, were analyzed to determine differences in coverage of a local civil disturbance: rioting in the Overtown community following the fatal shooting of a black by a Miami police officer. The larger Miami Herald devoted proportionately less space to the incident and less front-page space than did the News. However, the Herald had a higher percentage of background information in its coverage. The Herald did improve its civil disturbance reportage in this 1982–83 incident compared with a previous event in 1980.

This paper uses the super-efficiency data envelopment analysis (DEA) model to measure the higher education resource allocation efficiency (HERAE) of 30 provinces from China 2005-2018, and analyzes the regional difference and dynamic evolution law of the HERAE with Theil index and kernel density estimation, respectively. The results show that: The HERAEs of most provinces are DEA effective, but the HERAEs of a few provinces are DEA ineffective, calling for further improvement to the allocation of higher education resources in these places. There was a certain difference in the HERAE trend between eastern, central, and western regions. In the sample period, eastern region had higher HERAE than central and western regions. With the elapse of time, the internal gap of HERAE decreased to different degrees in the three regions. Eastern region had the largest gap, followed in turn by central and western regions. In addition, China’s HERAEs were polarized in time. With the passage of time, the polarization of regional HERAEs slowly weakened.

The University of Kansas (KU) Applied English Center (AEC) has twice been awarded a U.S. Department of State grant to host a program for Vietnamese high school teachers in 2014-15 (Cohort 1) and 2015-16 (Cohort 2). Each cohort had 13 teachers from gifted high schools, many in underserved provinces that have substantial ethnic minority populations. Officially titled the English Language and Teacher Education Program for Vietnamese Teachers of Gifted Students (VNTP), the program is commonly referred to as Project JHawk. It is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the U.S. Department of State – Hanoi Bureau. The idea for the program grew out of a connection made by former KU AEC Language Specialist Kellie Smith Herrod with U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Officer Michael Turner while Smith Herrod was in Vietnam as a Fulbright Scholar (2013-2014). Thanks to Turner’s vision and heroic efforts, this unique program was created.

Liveweight gain of lambs weaned early at a minimum live weight of 14 kg, at ~50 days of age, onto a herb-clover mix was compared with lambs that remained unweaned on a grass-predominant pasture or a herb-clover mix until conventional weaning (at ~99 days of age). Over two years, twin sets of lambs that had a minimum live weight of 14 kg were randomly allocated to one of three treatments: (1) Early weaning of lambs onto a herb-clover mix (HerbEW); (2) ewes and lambs grazing a herb-clover mix until conventional weaning (HerbCW); and (3) ewes and lambs grazing a grass-predominant pasture until conventional weaning (GrassCW). HerbEW lambs had slower (p < 0.05) growth rates than GrassCW lambs between early weaning and conventional weaning in 2016 and were 800 g lighter (p < 0.05) at conventional weaning. In 2017, however, both HerbEW and GrassCW had similar (p > 0.05) growth rates and did not differ (p > 0.05) in live weight at conventional weaning. HerbCW lambs had a greater (p < 0.05) growth rates than both HerbEW and GrassCW lambs in both years. Lambs weaned early onto a herb-clover mix have the potential to achieve live weights similar to lambs unweaned on grass-predominant pasture. Further research, however, is required to understand conditions under which early-weaned lambs can achieve similar live weights.

Han havde tidl. haft 2x AMI, og derfor var han i magnyl behandling. På baggrund af hans symptomer vurderede man at han havde Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens (PCD), hvilket formodentlig reddede hans ben. Casen illustrerer hvorfor PCD kan mistolkes ved første øjekast, og hvorfor det er vigtigt at kunne diagnosticere det hurtigt.
A 71 year old gentleman with no cronic illnesses, was suspected for having infektion in his leg. He suddenly got a blue leg and the pulse in a. dorsalis pedis was not possible to palpate. He have had 2 heartattacks earlier in his life and therefor he was on antithrombotic medicine. From the symptoms he was showing, they figured out fast it could be Phlegmasia Cerulea Dolens (PCD), which very well could have saved his leg from amputation. This case shows that PCD can me mistreated as another disease at first, and why its so very important to know about it and be able to give the diagnose rapidly.

The British-born newspaperman CV Bate founded the Potchefstroom Herald in 1908. He remained owner for 49 years during which time he established not only the paper but himself as a journalist of some repute. As a news medium Bate’s Potchefstroom Herald covered all the major international and national events, without neglecting the community news of an ever-changing Potchefstroom. He was also a crafty businessman and compassionate member of a community that did not always share his pro-British political views. More important was his strong support for reconciliation between the Afrikaans- and English-speaking South Africans. In support of this ideal, he established an Afrikaans paper, the Westelike Stem. While Bate’s sentiments left its marks on his reporting, his integrity was above reproach and he notably gave due prominence to the victory of the National Party in 1948 and the new prime minister’s visit to Potchefstroom. Subsequent to Bate’s retirement, his papers fell into the hands of Afrikaners who eventually transformed the Potchefstroom Herald into a predominantly Afrikaans publication. But when the Potchefstroom Herald celebrated its centenary, the paper had perhaps become what Bate always intended: a non-ideological paper that tried to serve the whole community of Potchefstroom. The Potchefstroom Herald thus remains a monument to one man’s tenacity and spirit.

abstract: On March 27, 1844, the New York Herald published the "Memoir of Zulma Marache," a first-person account of seduction and abortion. The Herald compared it to Eugene Sue's popular serial novel, the Mysteries of Paris . Although the "Memoir" was unique, its story of gender and socioeconomic injustices enabled by systemic inequity played out repeatedly in the Herald's columns as well as in Sue's novel. The Herald's framing of the "Memoir of Zulma Marache" via allusions to Mysteries of Paris asked readers to refresh and reframe their understandings of figures represented in the press. In collapsing fact and fiction, the Herald showed that what was called "sensational" was actually, tragically, perversely mundane—serial problems that had not then, and have not yet, been solved.

Hvad var årsagen til, at receptionsforskningen i 1980´erne kunne opnå en så omfattende popularitet inden for medieforskningen? Arild Fetveit argumenterer i artiklen for, at receptionsforskningens succes bunder i, at den var i stand til at indkorporere tidens stærke anti-essentialistiske strømninger inden for human- og samfundsvidenskaberne. Han argu- menterer endvidere for, at et opgør med de relativistiske tendenser på feltet kræver en nærmere drøftelse af de teoretiske problemer som anti-essentialismen har bragt med sig. Han påbegynder hermed et teore- tisk opgør med hvad han ser som overvurderingen af læserens frihed og undermineringen af tekstbegrebet. Artiklen trækker på teoretikere som Kant, Heidegger, Gadamer, Rorty, Eco og Fosh, og diskuterer de positi- oner inden for medieforskningen, som er belvet fremført af Morley, Fiske, Bruhn Jensen og Schrøder. Ved at gå Fish og Rorty på klingen når Arild Fetveit frem til den overraskende pointe, at de anti-essentialistiske, kon- struktivistiske positioner i virkeligheden er facade for en mere metafysisk tekstopfattelse.

I artiklen vil jeg redegøre for og diskutere socialpsykologen Thomas Scheffs teori om det sociale bånd, stolthed og skam, hvor fokus vil være på skamfølelsen, for herved at udfolde konsekvenserne af et sådant fokus i forståelsen af den sociale interaktion. Thomas Scheff udnævner skammen til at være den hyppigst forekommende og mest centrale følelse, idet den skabes i interaktionen via den kontinuerlige selvovervågning og -vurdering på grundlag af andres værdsættelse eller miskreditering (Scheff, 1990, 79; pp. 169-171). Det er blandt andet denne argumentation, jeg vil udfolde i artiklen ved at tage fat i specielt tre af Scheffs væsentligste inspirationskilder: 1) Goffman og dennes særlige blik for følelsesdynamikker i interaktionen – specielt forlegenhed/pinlighed, 2) C. H. Colleys teori om det sociale spejlselv og de selvmonitorerende processer, der leder til følelser af henholdsvis stolthed eller skam og 3) den psykoanalytiske forsker Helen Lewis’ begreb: følelsesfælder samt hendes sondring mellem den åbne, udifferentierede skam og omledt skam. Begge typer skamfølelse er uerkendte og skjulte. I artiklen vil jeg på baggrund af Scheffs og Suzanne Retzingers fælles og individuelle arbejder desuden skitsere, hvordan disse sociale følelser influerer på menneskers sociale liv, og hvordan studiet heraf kan give en dybere indsigt i dysfunktionel kommunikation og interpersonelle konflikter. Scheffs teori om det sociale bånd, stolthed og skam rummer også en kobling mellem mikro- og makroniveau. Internationale konflikter tolker Scheff i lyset af det mønster, han karakteriserer som en skam-vredespiral. Han trækker således en parallel mellem konflikteskalering på det mellemmenneskelige niveau i familier og internationale konflikter på et makroniveau. Afslutningsvis vil jeg inddrage et eksempel på en sådan parallel via Scheffs analyser af Hitlers magtovertagelse i Tyskland og 2. verdenskrigs udbrud. Herved tydeliggøres, hvordan perspektivet kan bidrage med væsentlig indsigt i problemstillinger på makroniveau.

Previously regarded as a subgenus of Pseudanthias Bleeker, Mirolabrichthys is rediagnosed and restricted to three species, the type species, M. tuka Herre & Montalban, along with M. pascalus (Jordan & Tanaka) and M. evansi (Smith). Five other species previously classified in Mirolabrichthys are reallocated to Nemanthias Smith, which beforehand had included only the type species, N. carberryi Smith: N. bartlettorum (Randall & Lubbock), N. bicolor (Randall), N. dispar (Herre), N. ignitus (Randall & Lubbock), and N. regalis (Randall & Lubbock). The remaining nine species previously placed in Mirolabrichthys are classified in a new genus, Pyronotanthias: P. lori (Lubbock & Randall), P. aurulentus (Randall & McCosker), P. bimarginatus (Randall), P. flavoguttatus (Katayama & Masuda), P. parvirostris (Randall & Lubbock), P. privitera (Randall & Pyle), P. smithvanizi (Randall & Lubbock), P. timanoa (Victor, Teitelbaum & Randall) and P. unimarginatus (Randall). Synapomorphies supporting monophyly of each genus are provided, along with generic descriptions and character summaries for included species. Characters supporting relationships of the three genera to each other and to other anthiadines are discussed.

In December 1837, New York Herald publisher James Gordon Bennett announced to his readers that he had decided to dispatch special correspondents to report on armed uprisings in Canada. His decision constitutes one of the earliest uses of war correspondents by the American press, and it was part of a developing practice to draw on contributors specifically engaged to furnish newspapers with reports from afar. While other papers also sent correspondents to cover the Canadian conflict, the Herald stood out because of the structure and organization of its news gathering efforts.

The article provides a comparative analysis of the views on the reforms and historical role of Peter the Great, expressed in N.M. Karamzin’s “Herald of Europe” (1802–1803) and S.N. Glinka’s “Russian Herald” (1808–1824). Since the foreign policy context of the era of Napoleonic Wars had fundamental impact on Russian journalism of that period, historical publications should be considered in their correlation with current processes in the information space of the early 19th century. In the article the author shows that given the ideological continuity, the world outlook and historical views of the journals of Karamzin and Glinka were characterized by fundamental differences. The primary task for Karamzin was to substantiate the equal status of Russia in the cultural space of Europe, and his apologetic attitude towards Peter I during that period was determined by the role of the first emperor in the Europeanization of Russia. Glinka, in the conditions of information confrontation on the eve of the war of 1812, needed to emphasize the moral and cultural superiority of Russians over Europeans, so he made an attempt to create a reconciling historical narrative, paradoxically combining both the praise of pre-Petrine Russia and the praise of the reforms of Peter the Great.

On 11 August 2003, after producing some 1600 cartoons, Malcolm Evans was controversially dismissed from his position as editorial cartoonist at The New Zealand Herald because he had refused to accept that the editor had the right to dictate the subjects he might address. This invited commentary for Pacific Journalism Review is published to further debate. Evans argues: ‘While I have always respected the editor’s right to reject a cartoon, he can never have the right to direct it – an understanding that was mutually agreed as a condition of my hire when I took the Herald job six years earlier. Rejection is an editor’s prerogative – direction is censorship. Although I have moved on personally as a professional cartoonist, I am concerned that the precedent set has the potential to affect the work of others.’

Last year [2003], in a supremely hypocritical editorial, The New Zealand Herald laid into the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) for its ‘farcical level of research’ on Ahmed Zaoui.1 Zaoui is an Algerian national who turned up at Auckland International Airport in early December 2002, and asked for political asylum. He was immediately imprisoned. Relying on classified NZSIS information, the Minister of Immigration has declared Zaoui a threat to national security and issued a Security Risk Certificate against him, allowing his continued detention. The Herald pointed to the just-released decision of the Refugee Status Appeals Authority 2, which had found no credible evidence that Zaoui was a terrorist.

ABSTRACTThis article examines the history of two Indian newspapers, Tanganyika Opinion and Tanganyika Herald, to demonstrate how business considerations provided both the opportunity for East African Indians to make public arguments and the central limitation on the arguments that could be made. Founded on the inspiration of mass nationalist action through a territorial hartal, the Tanganyika Opinion and later the Herald blazed the trails that articulated ‘Greater India’ among the Anglo-Gujarati reading public in Tanganyika. But growing conservative sentiments within this vulnerable minority, along with rising sectarian division, reduced both the patronage and audience for a singular ‘anti-colonial’ politics by the 1930s and 1940s. Moreover, as a marginal print node along the Indian Ocean littoral, the Opinion and Herald came to rely on an opportunistic mixture of wire services and consular propaganda to keep abreast of regional and international news developments. Ultimately, the shrinking market for Anglo-Gujarati newspapers and rising opportunities in Swahili-language journals had sealed the doom of these and similar Indian newspapers by the time ‘African’ political independence arrived in the early 1960s.

El estudio del discurso referente a los herejes en las leyendas dominicas nos enseña menos sobre el verdadero rostro de los herejes que sobre la manera con que los dominicos lo han presentado a lo largo del siglo XIII. Twin sets of lambs were randomly allocated to one of six treatments: (1) lambs born and managed on ryegrass–clover-based pasture until conventional weaning approximately at 99 days of age (Grass–GrassCW); (2) lambs born on ryegrass–clover-based pasture and early weaned onto a herb–clover mix at ~45 days of age (Grass–HerbEW); (3) lambs born on ryegrass–clover-based pasture, transferred with their dam onto a herb–clover mix at ~45 days of age until conventional weaning (Grass–HerbCW); (4) lambs born on ryegrass–clover-based pasture, transferred with their dam onto a herb–clover mix at ~15 days of age and early weaned onto a herb–clover mix at ~45 days of age (Grass–HerbD15EW); (5) lambs born and managed on herb–clover mix until conventional weaning (Herb–HerbCW); (6) lambs born on herb–clover mix and weaned early onto a herb–clover mix at ~45 days of age (Herb–HerbEW). In both years, Herb–HerbCW lambs had greater (p < 0.05) growth rates than lambs in other treatments. The liveweight gains and rumen papillae development of Herb–HerbEW, Grass–HerbD15EW and Grass–HerbEW lambs did not differ (p > 0.05). The weight of the empty digestive tract components at either early weaning or conventional weaning did not differ (p > 0.05) between treatments. Exposing early-weaned lambs to the herb mix for a prolonged period, prior to early weaning, does not improve their subsequent growth.

Abordadas a través de comunicaciones de seminarios o de coloquios, las herejías del Mediodía de Francia no han sido sin embargo presentadas, a falta de fuentes directas consecuentes, más que a través de las fuentes de la represión. En este campo de investigación, aunque desde el siglo XIX se vienen sucediendo importantes publicaciones eruditas, la historiografía relativa al instrumento represivo de los movimientos heréticos está poco diversificada, por cuanto parece acantonarse en un número restringido de publicaciones, algunas veces confidenciales. Intentar llenar en parte este vacío, podría por tanto demostrarse pertinente en el marco de este seminario con el fin de presentar los trabajos científicos efectuados sobre el tema, más particularmente entre 1870 y 1990, de evaluar las aportaciones de la investigación en Francia sobre la Inquisición meridional y de apuntar el trabajo que queda por realizar.

Marente is a village at the foot of the ancient Sumbawa volcano, located on the Tiu Kele river and the Agal waterfall, which empties directly into the sea. The ecological condition of the Tiu Kele river is an ideal environment for Stiphodon fish to live and breed. Therefore, this study focused on identifying the species of Stiphodon sp. (Gobiidae), whose presence has not been recorded in West Nusa Tenggara. There is still no literature study related to the Gobiidae family, especially the genus Stiphodon in the waters of the Tiu Kele river, which makes this research very important to do. This research was conducted from September 13 to October 13, 2021, in Tiu Kele river, Marente village, Sumbawa. The tools used are net, dipper, aquarium, sampling tubes, thermometer, pH meter, and camera, while the material used is 96% alcohol for specimen preparation. The identification results stated that Stiphodon atropurpureus had clearly visible characteristics. It had a bright blue body from the snout and cheeks to the tail, the dorsal fin is separated and fibrous. These results were also later strengthened from various related references about the physical properties and characteristics of Stiphodon atropurpureus. The results of this research can later be used as a reference and new data related to the distribution of stiphodon in Indonesia, especially in Lesser Sunda.

Under titlen “Homo psychologicus” behandler Brinkmann spørgsmål vedrørende psykologiens rolle i samfundet, idet han tager afsæt i undersøgelser, som viser en drastisk nedgang i danskernes mentale sundhed, og den effekt, det har for efterspørgslen efter psykologisk bistand, men også, og væsentligst, den fare, som denne udvikling rummer for, at problemer i samfundets organisering bliver psykologiseret, og løsningen af dem gjort til forpligtelse for de isolerede individer selv. Psykologien risikerer herved at komme til at fungere som en ideologi, der fremfører billedet af “homo psychologicus” som pendant til den velkendte forestilling om “homo economicus”, der, som Katarina Juselius (2019) for nylig har vist, er et teoretisk-ideologisk fatamorgana i strid med de empiriske kendsgerninger.

At recent presentations on the history of anatomy in the West of Scotland, our group has been asked whether we would regard the revelations of 1999 – 2001 about organ retention as a modern form of body-snatching. We have compared newspaper reports of the Glasgow Herald from 1823 to 1832, the decade prior to the Anatomy Act of 1832, and the Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times from 1999 to 2001. Clearly body-snatchers appropriated whole corpses while the recent troubles concerned individual organs. Body-snatching was illegal while the crisis over organ retention arose from differing expectations between the medical profession and the public. Both practices caused huge public concern and distress to relatives. There are, however, interesting differences between the two sets of reports. The public had been aware of body-snatching for many years prior to the Anatomy Act, which regulated the supply of cadavers, whereas revelations about organ retention came as a shock. In the organ retention crisis, the parents of the children were more organised in supporting each other and in campaigning for change than were the public in the days of the resurrectionists.

Introduction : Herpes Labialis is the most common form of orofacial herpes, beginning with a feeling of vesicle formation at the vermilion margin of the lips and the surrounding area within 24 hours and then rupture, superficial erosion occurs which is then covered with crusts. Herpes labialis occurs in 50-75% of individuals exposed to HSV-1 infection in the oral cavity and often has a recurrence followed by prodromal symptoms. Reactivation can occur due to triggers in the form of decreased immune conditions due to weather changes, fever, sun exposure, emotional stress, trauma, menstruation, systemic diseases, allergies, and immunosuppression. Case: 22 years old female with a complaint of a wound on the angular lip, initially the patient had a fever for 2 days then a fluid-filled blister appeared which then rupture. Case Treatment: The diagnosis is made using anamnesis, clinical and supporting examination. CBC and Antybody Titer HSV-1 show value under normal for eosinophil and reactive for IgG HSV-1 established. Patient take medicine topical antiinflammation 3 time a day and multivitamins 1 time a day. Discussion: HSV-1 infektion is latent and can reaktivation. Under Stress Condition can caused a reduced circulating population of immune cells such as IL-6, TNFα, Lymphocites B, NK cell, dan Monocytes which HSV-1 Reactivation. Conclucion: Management in case can be successful if the clinician understand HSV-1 Infection Manifestation and added Suporting Examination. In Addition, cooperation from the patien is needed to manage stress so that the disease no more recurrence.

The paper reports on experimental investigations which have been made on four model RO/RO ferries. One of these was based on a 1/100th scale model of the Herald of Free Enterprise. Two of the other models were modified versions of the Herald of Free Enterprise, which were so modified that they did not decrease the efficient concept of the vehicle throughput of a conventional vessel. The tests revealed that the capsize times of these modified RO/RO vessels were increased by 350% for one vessel and 500% for the other vessel. The modified vessels should meet SOLAS 90 + 50 regulations. A fourth model was fitted with two equally spaced transverse bulkheads. This model also had good damage stability characteristics. The paper also summarizes the history of some of the past RO/RO ferry disasters.

Between the two World Wars, in Belgrade and Serbia, seven musical journals were published: ?Musical Gazette? (1922), ?Music? (1928-1929), ?Herald of the Musical Society Stankovic? (1928-1934, 1938-1941; renamed to ?Musical Herald? in january 1931), ?Sound? (1932-1936), ?Journal of The South Slav Choral Union? (1935-1936, 1938), ?Slavic Music? (1939-1941) and ?Music Review? (1940). The influence of marxism can be observed in ?Musical Herald? (in the series from 1938), ?Sound? and ?Slavic Music?. A Marxist influence is obvious through indications of determinism. Namely, some writers (Dragutin Colic) observed elements of musical art and its history as (indirect) consequences of sociopolitical and economic processes. Still, journals published articles of domestic and foreign authors who interpreted the relation between music, society and economy in a much more moderate and subtle manner (D.Cvetko, A.Schering). Editors and associates of these journals also had proscriptive ambitions - they recommended and even determined regulations for composers about what kind of music to write according to social goals and needs. According to tendencies in Marxism, there was a follow up of musical work in the Soviet Union. Editors tried not to be one-sided. There were writings about the USSR by left orientated associates as much as emigrants from that country, and articles of Soviet authors were translated. Also, there were critical tones about musical development in the first country of socialism. Serbian musical periodicals recognized the enormous threat from fascism. Also, there were articles about influence of Nazi ideology and dictatorship on musical prospects in Germany. Since Germany annexed Sudetenland in 1938, ?Musical Herald? expressed support to musicians and people of that friendly country by devoting the October and November 1938 issue to Czechoslovak music, along with an appropriate introduction by the editor, Stana Djuric-Klajn.

Dette er nogle af de spørgsmål, den tyske kultur- og medieforsker Andreas Ackermann tager op i denne artikel. Ackermanns ærinde er flerfold. Han er først og fremmest interesseret i at undersøge, i hvilket omfang yezidierne, som er en lille etnisk-religiøs gruppe af ca. 300.000 kurdisk talende menne- sker, anvender Internettet som en »diasporiserings-teknologi«, dvs. til at styrke en fælles gruppebevidsthed omkring et fælles hjemland. I den sammenhæng trækker Ackermann på nogle af de nyfortolkninger af dia- sporabegrebet, som er udviklet de senere år, men er samtidig hermed også ude i et kritisk teoretisk ærinde, nemlig at vurdere disse nyfortolk- ninger af diasporabegrebet. Den væsentligste »finding« i den her frem- lagte case er, at Internettet ikke forårsager en diasporisk bevidsthed, men fremskynder sociale forandringsprocesser, der allerede er i udvik- ling i det virkelige liv. The Music Herald was the first music magazine to appear in Belgrade after WWI. It was published monthly, for a year (January - December 1922). Its editor-in-chief was Petar Krstic, a composer. Other members of the editorial staff were Bozidar Joksimovic, Stevan Hristic, Kosta Manojlovic (composers) Vladimir R. Djordjevic (an ethnomusicologist) and Jovan Zorko (a violinist). Over 200 articles were published in the magazine. It dealt with different genres of music writings, such as articles, treatises, documents on the history of Serbian / Yugoslav music, music criticism, polemics, necrologies and bibliographies. Twenty-four compositions by native composers were published in the musical supplement of The Music Herald, among them the works of its editors as well as those of other Yugoslav musicians. The Music Herald dealt with three fields of interest: music historiography, ethnomusicology and the current topics of its epoch. When the magazine started, Serbian musicology was in its initial stage so the editors were trying to foster its development. They published numerous biographies of Serbian 19th century musicians, as well as documents on Serbian music culture during the reign of Prince Milos Obrenovic. Music folklore was also very often the subject of interest in the magazine. The Music Herald was interested in current topics and covered the Yugoslav music school system, opera houses, military music music associations, etc. It was especially interested in choral societies which in the course of the 19th century took up not only an artistic, but also a political and patriotic role in the liberation movement. After WWI choral societies entered a period of crisis. Their political raison d'?tre was lost, so they were faced with the challenge of achieving higher professional standards. This study deals with two aspects of 'The Music Herald': aesthetic and ideological aspects. In terms of ideology, the magazine was strongly in favor of the Yugoslav idea. Its correspondents (more then 40 of them) came from all parts of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, as well as from abroad (Poland). The music culture of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes was treated with equal enthusiasm. The articles were published in both Cyrillic and Latin script, and in two languages (Serbo-Croatian and Slovenian). The editors of The Music Herald were also Slavophiles. They wrote about Czechoslovakian and Polish music, and also covered the works of Russian musicians who had emigrated to Yugoslavia after the October Revolution in 1917. The so-called 'national style' was fostered in The Music Herald, because it was believed by the editors to be the future of Serbian and Yugoslav music. Avant-garde music was treated with suspicion although on one occasion a defense of contemporary music by Stanislav Vinaver, a writer and a music critic, was published. On the other hand fostering the 'national style' did not mean that moderate means of expression sufficed for the positive evaluation of a certain music piece. That is why the compositions of Petar Stojanovic were judged as 'drawing-room music'. Although it lasted for just one year, The Music Herald has an important place in the history of Serbian music periodicals. Its orientation towards music historiography is, in this respect, especially important. It blazed the trail for the Serbian musicology in its dealings with unknown music data in the past.

The clinical implications of venous cerebrovascular maldevelopment remain poorly understood. We report on the association of cerebrofacial venous anomalies (including sinus pericranii), ocular abnormalities and mild developmental delay in two children. In addition, one child had a seizure disorder. Complex cerebrofacial slow-flow vascular anomalies may herald an underlying developmental aberration affecting the cerebrofacial and orbital regions.

La brujería, ¿ una especificidad de la montaña ? El ejemplo del mundo alpino occidental. La región alpina presenta un interés evidente para las encuestas sobre la brujería como lo confirman los dos dosieres relativos a Valais de 1428 y al Delfinado en los años 1424-1445. Gracias a las últimas investigaciones realizadas sobre las fuentes del dosier de Valais la autora se pregunta por la época de los orígenes del sabat. Estas fuentes han sido estudiadas y publicadas recientemente bajo el titulo de «El imaginario del sabat». A principios del siglo XIV asistimos al nacimiento del fenómeno de la brujería identificado con una secta en la que el sabat constituiría el rito central practicado por sus adeptos. Sin embargo, aunque el fenómeno es confirmado muy prento en estos altos valles alpinos, resulta difícil afirmar que la brujería haya sido al final de la Edad Media «una especificidad de las montañas».

Background: Varicella zoster virus is the virus that causes shingles or Herpes zoster. Vesicular eruption within the dermatome that occurs unilaterally and is intensely painful. Pre-eruptive, acute exudative, and chronic are the three stages of the disease manifestation. Herpes zoster clinical manifestation includes vesiculo-pustular eruptions accompanied by excruciating pain and burning sensation, which is comparable to the symptomatology described in Ayurveda while referring to the disease kaksha mentioned in kshudra roga. Analyzing symptomatology reveals that, vitiatiation of pitta due to indulging in various causative factors affects Twak and Rakta Dhatu thereby causing this illness. Consequently, pitta shamana line of therapy is advised which helps in samprapti vighatana and dosha shamana. Materials and Methods: A 38-year-old woman’s vesicular skin lesion across her right axilla, arm, and palmar aspect of her left ring finger, along with intense pain, and burning sensation associated with blackish discoloration surrounded by inflammatory signs such as rubor, calor, dolor were her primary complaints. In this case pitta-hara line of management was employed as mentioned in the management of disease Kaksha. Observation and Result: Lesions started to shrink and fall off without any indications of further spread or reoccurrence. Falling lesions had slight yellow discharge from the sight but pain and discomforts had disappeared.

At the outset of the order of St Dominic, the evangelic model of the apostles The idea, linked to the Order of the Preachers, that Dominic had had approved by his bishop in 1215 : “Go forth in holy poverty, on foot, in the manner of the religious, preaching the True Word of God”, is drawn from the account of the mission given by Christ to the Apostles when He sent them out to announce the coming of the Kingdom of Heaven, “...taking with them no gold, or silver, or copper coins” (Math. X, 5-16). Here was the mendicant preaching of the 12th-century hermit-preachers who followed the example of the Apostles, such as he himself had done since 1206, and that he would have the Pope confirm and recommend. This type of preaching had the same fullness as that of the bishops’, defined in 1209 by the Council of Avignon : “teach the Faith and plant virtues, combat vices and errors”. In the convents, however, the Brothers led an “apostolic manner of life” in common (Acts IV, 32). In 1220, the Order decided to generalise evangelic poverty through mendicancy applied to the convents. Permeating the idea of the first Mendicant Order, through missionary work and daily submission to the mercy of Providence, the Scriptures ensured the synthesis of all its parts, and developed a true atmosphere of evangelism in the lives of Dominic and his Brothers.

The paper reports on experimental investigations which have been made on three model RO/RO ferries. One of these was based on a 1/100th scale model of the Herald of Free Enterprise ferry. The other models were modified versions of the Herald of Free Enterprise which were so modified that they did not decrease the efficient concept of the throughput of a conventional vessel. One modified model had nine longitudinal compartments, while another had six longitudinal compartments; these vessels should meet SOLAS90+50 regulations. The RO/RO ferry models with nine and six compartments had considerably better damage stability characteristics than the conventional model. The experiments were carried out on all models without the consideration of waves and wind. Small weights were placed on the model ferries, to represent motor vehicles, and water was added on the car deck. Measurements of the resulting heel angles were taken. All results were plotted on graphs and they were compared and discussed. The effect of cargo shift on the transverse damage stability of these vessels was found to be significant. The paper also contains a brief history of a few very important RO/RO ferry accidents that have taken place since the end of the Second World War.
