In this communication, several coplanar wave guide topologies to the hemispherical DR.A are presented. It is seen that the inductive and the circular-loop CPW feed configurations offer the flexibility to excite the fundamental TE111 resonant mode of the hemispherical DRA close to the source free resonant frequency, due to the presence of metallization in the coupling region. Dual-band behavior is observed with the capacitive feed due to the DRA and slot resonant modes, which are displaced with respect to the unperturbed modes due to the uninterrupted slot. The radiation characteristics of the antenna arc also explained.

Résumé :
Background and Objective: Computed tomography-guided percutaneous lung biopsy is a commonly used method for clarifying the nature of nodules, masses or lung consolidation. However, the diagnostic yield of nodules needs to be improved when compared with masses during percutaneous lung biopsy. In recent years, 3D-printed coplanar templates have been gradually utilized in radioactive seed implantation for lung cancer treatment. However, there is little research on the application of 3D-printed coplanar templates in pulmonary nodules biopsy. Therefore, we conducted a single center and retrospective study to explore the application value of 3D-printed coplanar puncture template-assisted computed tomography-guided percutaneous core needle biopsy of small pulmonary nodules. Methods: 210 patients hospitalized in Taihe Hospital with pulmonary nodules underwent percutaneous core needle biopsy for histopathology diagnosis and were included in the study. 106 patients underwent conventional percutaneous lung biopsy (control group) and 104 patients underwent 3D-PCT-assisted percutaneous lung biopsy (3D-PCT group). The diagnostic yield and incidence of complications were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results: The overall diagnostic yield significantly improved in 3D-PCT group (95.2%) compared with Control group (87.7%) ( P < .05); the diagnostic yield for lung nodules smaller than 2 cm in the 3D-PCT group and the control group was 94.4% and 80.5%, respectively, ( P < .05). Incidence of pneumothorax (17.3% vs 18.9%) and pulmonary hemorrhage (7.7% vs 9.4%) were not significantly difference between the two groups ( P > .05). Conclusions: Studies indicated that application of 3-Dimensionally printed coplanar template improves diagnostic yield of CT-guided percutaneous core needle biopsy for pulmonary nodules, especially for pulmonary nodule smaller than 2 cm.

Résumé :
The non-coplanar cross-buried pipelines are a common way of pipeline wiring. In order to investigate the magnetic anomaly characteristics of the non-coplanar cross-buried pipelines and guide the site operation, the influences of a series of factors on the magnetic anomaly of the non-coplanar cross-buried pipelines are analyzed. Based on the principle of magnetic dipole construction, a forward model is established for the magnetic anomaly characteristics of the subsurface non-coplanar cross-buried pipelines. The basic characteristics of magnetic anomaly for the non-coplanar cross-buried pipelines are defined. The influences of geomagnetic parameters (geomagnetic intensity, geomagnetic inclination, and geomagnetic declination), pipeline parameters (thickness, magnetic susceptibility), and cross angle of pipelines on the characteristics of magnetic anomalies are analyzed. The results show that the shape of the total magnetic anomaly is mainly affected by the magnetic inclination, and the curve of magnetic anomaly at ± I site shows some symmetry. The amplitude is approximately linearly affected by the total geomagnetic field, magnetic declination, pipeline thickness, material magnetic susceptibility, and pipeline cross angle. There is a periodic change of the amplitude with the increase of geomagnetic inclination (−90°–>90°). The crest-trough distance is mainly affected by geomagnetic inclination, magnetic declination, thickness, magnetic susceptibility, and pipeline cross angle. A more accurate measurement can be achieved if the direction of the pipelines is roughly measured and then the number of measurement points is augmented near the intersection of pipelines and the measurement lines. Present work obtains the equivalent magnetic dipole units by segmenting pipelines. The magnetic anomaly characteristics of non-coplanar crossed iron pipelines are successfully simulated. The numerical results are in accordance with the experimental analysis.

Résumé :
The aim of this article was to address the de-orbit behaviors of space-based laser driving small scale space debris in low earth orbit (LEO) based on different orbit and laser parameters in coplanar/non-coplanar conditions. The de-orbit model of space-based laser irradiating small scale space debris was established, the de-orbit rules of irradiation angle and irradiation distance with action time in different orbital inclination and right ascension of the ascending node (RAAN) were investigated by numerical simulations, and the change rules of the perigee altitude with the number of laser pulses were discussed in different orbital inclination and RAAN. As a result, the clearance window of removing small scale space debris was described in detail. These results of numerical simulations will provide theoretical guide for designing clear schemes and selecting efficient parameters.

Résumé :
Abstract Recent research on microwave filters show that there are constraints in their design; Effective solutions are needed for high-quality systems. In this manuscript, a new design of microwave dual-band bandpass filter is presented. The complementary metamaterial resonators with magnetic activity and negative permeability (µ < 0) are engraved on the lower ground plane and coplanar guides are maintained in the upper plane of the filter. Both (CSRRs) used have different shapes and dimensions from one another to have a dual band-pass behavior of our filter outside the range 5 to 6 GHz to avoid clutter with other microwave transmission systems. The supply lines used for the inlet and the filter outlet has coplanar access. To show the influence of the coupling of the two metamaterials resonators with the coplanar waveguides on the qualities of the filter, we do simulations using HFSS commercial software.

Résumé :
Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate a novel device for non-surgical implantation of tumor cells using ultrasonic (US) image guidance. There are a variety of mouse model cancer types (e.g. sub-cu, orthotopic, genetically engineered). Orthotopic tumors are increasingly prevalent but usually require surgery, which reduces throughput and injures the surrounding anatomy. Injections are an alternative to surgery, but usually require image guidance or extensive training. US guided injection systems exist, but are suboptimal because they require significant training, as the US beam is not necessarily coplanar with needle location or trajectory, reducing accuracy and throughput. We tested a new approach to image guided injection which ensures that the US beam is coplanar with the needle. To test the efficacy of the image guided injection device across a variety of common orthotopic tumors, we delivered luc-tagged cells to the prostate (2.5e5 cells in 40 µL, PC3, N=8), liver (2e6 cells in 100 µL, Hep G2, N=5), and brain (1.75e5 cells in 100 µL, U87-MG, N=3). The brain tumor model was introduced via intracardiac injection to simulate metastases. Between 3 and 8 mice were injected for each tumor model. For injection, animals were anesthetized and positioned on motion stage. A 1 mL syringe was mounted to the adjustable injection gantry with the needle co-planar with the US beam, and the target organ was visualized with US. Cells were delivered to the targets using the US live stream as a guide. Between 1 to 3 weeks after the injections, tumors were confirmed via BLI with an IVIS (Revvity, Waltham, MA, USA). For each of the three tumor cell lines, animal preparation and injections could be performed in 10 mins by recently-trained novice users. All three cell lines could be effectively delivered to the orthotopic host tissues, and this was confirmed by using BLI of the cells. This study represents the first time a co-planar US beam and needle delivery mechanism was used for the purpose of non-surgical implantation of orthotopic tumors. Future developments of this platform could include improvements to automation of needle placement and trajectory to ensure successful payload delivery by novice users. Citation Format: Thomas M. Résumé :
Purpose: To analyze the outcome and prognosis of patients with refractory cervical lymph node metastasis of thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after external irradiation, who underwent interstitial 125I brachytherapy as a salvage treatment with a CT-guided coplanar template-assisted technique. We also want to compare the dosimetry of 3D printed coplanar template-assisted interstitial 125I brachytherapy preoperative and postoperative, and to explore the accuracy of this technology. Material and methods: We retrospectively collected and analyzed the results of 32 patients with refractory cervical lymph node metastasis of thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after external irradiation, who underwent interstitial 125I brachytherapy as a salvage treatment with a CT-guided coplanar template-assisted technique from January 2012 to December 2017. Results: The actual D90 were 114 to 240 Gy, and the median postoperative dosimetry assessment was 177.5 Gy. The local control rates at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months were 87.5%, 59.38%, 40.63%, and 31.25%, respectively. The median local control time was 7.5 months. The median overall survival time was 10.5 months (95% CI, 8.9-13.4), and the survival rates of 1- and 2-year, respectively, were 43.75% and 9.38%. There were 36 lesions in 32 patients. By performing a paired t-test analysis, there was no significant difference in D90, D100, V100, V150, V200, GTV volume, CI, EI, and HI between preoperative and postoperative ( P > .05). Conclusions: Interstitial 125I brachytherapy can be used as a salvage treatment for patients with refractory cervical lymph node metastasis of thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after external irradiation. With the auxiliary function of 3D printed coplanar template, the main dosimetry parameters verified after the operation can meet the requirements of the preoperative plan with good treatment accuracy.

Résumé :
AbstractTwo methods for non-coplanar beam direction optimization, one for static beams and another for arc trajectories, were proposed for intracranial tumours. The results of the beam angle optimizations were compared with the beam directions used in the clinical plans. Ten meningioma cases already treated were selected for this retrospective planning study. Algorithms for non-coplanar beam angle optimization (BAO) and arc trajectory optimization (ATO) were used to generate the corresponding plans. A plan quality score, calculated by a graphical method for plan assessment and comparison, was used to guide the beam angle optimization process. For each patient, the clinical plans (CLIN), created with the static beam orientations used for treatment, and coplanar VMAT approximated plans (VMAT) were also generated. To make fair plan comparisons, all plan optimizations were performed in an automated multicriteria calculation engine and the dosimetric plan quality was assessed. BAO and ATO plans presented, on average, moderate global plan score improvements over VMAT and CLIN plans. Nevertheless, while BAO and CLIN plans assured a more efficient OARs sparing, the ATO and VMAT plans presented a higher coverage and conformity of the PTV. Globally, all plans presented high-quality dose distributions. No statistically significant quality differences were found, on average, between BAO, ATO and CLIN plans. However, automated plan solution optimizations (BAO or ATO) may improve plan generation efficiency and standardization. In some individual patients, plan quality improvements were achieved with ATO plans, demonstrating the possible benefits of this automated optimized delivery technique.

Résumé :
SUMMARYThis paper presents an absolute position estimation system for a mobile robot moving on a flat surface. In this system, a 3-D landmark with four coplanar points and a non-coplanar point is utilized to improve the accuracy of position estimation and to guide the robot during navigation. Applying theoretical analysis, we investigate the image sensitivity of the proposed 3-D landmark compared with the conventional 2-D landmark. In the camera calibration stage of the experiments, we employ a neural network as a computational tool. The neural network is trained from a set of learning data collected at various points around the mark so that the extrinsic and intrinsic parameters of the camera system can be resolved. The overall estimation algorithm from the mark identification to the position determination is implemented in a 32-bit personal computer with an image digitizer and an arithmetic accelerator. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed 3-D landmark and the neural network-based calibration scheme, a series of navigation experiments were performed on a wheeled mobile robot (LCAR) in an indoor environment. The results show the feasibility of the position estimation system applicable to mobile robot's real-time navigation.

Résumé :
High-speed digital and microwave circuits have traditionally been tested by dicing wafers and mounting chips into high-frequency test carriers. This process is expensive, time consuming, and destructive. Methods of high-frequency measurement at the wafer stage are very desirable; for example, for wafer mapping, but conventional needle probes cannot be used because of their parasitics. New probe structures based on fine coaxial lines, vertically mounted microstrip lines, and tapered coplanar lines have been reported. For measurement at microwave frequencies (2–20 GHz), we have developed a geometry of a coplanar wave-guide probe that gives better than 10 dB return loss. Individual monolithic components can easily be measured and modelled for inclusion in a circuit simulation. For the measurement of digital circuits, especially those requiring several high-speed signal lines, we have used proprietary microstrip probes. Satisfactory operation up to about 2 Gbit∙s−1 has been observed, the upper bit rate being restricted by the inductance of the probe tip.Microwave-frequency and time-domain measurements of both types of probes have been made and will be discussed. Additionally, examples of the use of these probes for on-wafer measurements of digital and analog circuits will be given.

Résumé :
In this article, a simple curved elliptical coplanar wave guide fed antenna is proposed for wideband applications. An elliptical shaped model of multiband antenna is converted as notch band antenna with placement of slots in the radiating structure and by incorporating defected ground structure, bandwidth enhancement isattained in the proposed model. In short, the multiband antennais modelled in to wideband antenna with bandwidth of 17.8 GHz and impedance bandwidth of 67%.By placing defected ground structure adjacent to feed line on the ground plane, additional resonant frequencies are raised and enhancement in the bandwidth is obtained. The measured results are providing excellent correlation with simulation results obtained from HFSS and CST tools.

Résumé :
The implementation of a output-input inverse polarity pulse power divider based on the use of a SMA directly feed asymmetric coplanar stripline phase inverter for ultra-wideband communication is proposed. The novelty of the proposed power divider can be demonstrated that the electromagnetic energy guided by the CPW divides naturally into the slots of two asymmetric coplanar striplines and the polarity of the input pulse be reversed by asymmetric coplanar stripline to SMA transition. SMA connectors are mounted directly to the output asymmetric coplanar striplines and seven pairs of metal rods are soldered vertically to the substrate with seven resistors on top for improving the isolation and matching performance. The simulated and measured result in frequency domain agree well showing equal power division with less than 2 dB of additional insertion loss and in-phase for the outputs ports across the desired band of 0.4 GHz to 4.0 GHz (one decade) which indicates an ultra-wideband feature. The return loss for all the ports and the isolation between the two output ports are better than 10 dB which demonstrates good matching and isolation performance. To illustrate the short pulse performance of the proposed power divider, Inverse Fourier Transformation is used to calculate the input and output signals. The Gaussian pulse with a −10 dB bandwidth is utilized as the stimulus signal and the port signals in time domain are derived from the measured scattering parameters and discussed. Time domain results show that the same magnitude of the pulse is obtained between the two outputs and the polarity of the output pulse has been inversed compared to the input one. Simulated and measured results in both frequency and time domain agree well and show the feasibility and validity of the proposed power dividers.

Résumé :
A reflective metasurface technique is used to enhance the gain and reduction of backward radiation of an antenna. A normal metal slots is placed around the radiating patch to get the improved gain. Another metasurface antenna is placed with 10mm Gap from the radiating antenna to get the high radiation and enhanced directivity. A partial ground and line feeding with the conventional coplanar wave guide technique is used to improve the over all result. A rectifier circuit has been designed to harvest the electromagnetic energy to convert the DC output power. In the proposed model 8.1dB of Gain and -13.1dB of backward radiation with 2.82V of DC output power has been observed. The entire simulation and measurements has been done on HFSS and ADS software.

Résumé :
Space-energy driven laser-ablation debris removal is a feasible way to address the worsening space debris environment. Energy analysis is crucial for the design and run of a space-energy driven laser-ablation debris removal system. This study details the energy analysis of a space-energy driven laser-ablation debris removal system as affected by laser energy, frequency and range. The results show that the laser irradiation time and energy efficiency are decreased with increases in the laser energy and frequency, and the energy efficiency in the case of different planes is significantly lower than that in the case of coplanar. However, laser range has no effect on the perigee changing and energy efficiency. The results can effectively guide the removal scheme design and evaluation.

Résumé :
This paper presents a wideband polarized antenna that is designed and analyzed for the cellular communication applications. The proposed antenna is designed with the coplanar wave guide feeding (CPW) by using the RT/ duroid 5880 material with a dielectric constant 2.2. It is observed that in the proposed model the return loss is -21.40dB for ungrounded CPW where as for the grounded CPW the loss is reduced to -39.13dB. The gain for the ungrounded CPW fed antenna is 2.95 dB and is enhanced to 3.2dB with grounded CPW structure. It is observed that there is an improvement in the bandwidth upto 6.03 GhZ for grounded CPW when DGS is applied. The antenna designing and simulation is done using ANSOFT HFSS software.

Résumé :
Gold-centered carbene–metal–amides (CMAs) containing cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbenes (CAACs) are promising emitters for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). Aiming at the design and optimization of new TADF emitters, we report a density functional theory study of over 60 CMAs with various CAAC ligands, systematically evaluating computed parameters in relation to photoluminescence properties. The CMA structures were primarily selected based on experimental synthesis prospects. We demonstrate that TADF efficiency of the CMA materials originates from a compromise between oscillator strength coefficients and exchange energy (ΔEST). The latter is governed by the overlap of HOMO and LUMO orbitals, where HOMO is localized on the amide and LUMO over the Au–carbene bond. The S0 ground and excited T1 states of the CMAs adopt approximately coplanar geometry of carbene and amide ligands, but rotate perpendicular in the excited S1 states, resulting in degeneracy or near-degeneracy of S1 and T1, accompanied by a decrease in the S1-S0 oscillator strength from its maximum at coplanar geometries to near zero at rotated geometries. Based on the computations, promising new TADF emitters are proposed and synthesized. Bright CMA complex (Et2CAAC)Au(carbazolide) is obtained and fully characterized in order to demonstrate that excellent stability and high radiative rates up to 106 s−1 can be obtained for the gold–CMA complexes with small CAAC–carbene ligands.

Résumé :
AbstractThe spectral congestion in existing Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) bands has led to the emergence of new ISM bands (Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure (UNII)) from 5.150 to 5.710 GHz. In this paper, a simple uniplanar, high gain, microstrip antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested for existing WLAN and new UNII standards. The proposed antenna provides dualband operation by joining two rectangular rings and cutting Defected Ground Structure in the Coplanar Wave Guide (CPW) feed. The experimental and simulation results show good return loss characteristics and stable radiation pattern over the desired frequency bands ranging from 2.20 to 2.65 GHz (WLAN band) at a lower frequency and from 5.0 to 5.45 GHz (UNII-1/UNII-2 bands). The measured peak gains are 5.5 and 4.9 dBi at 2.45 GHz (WLAN band) and 5.15 GHz (UNII band), respectively.

Résumé :
Abstract A guided-wave THz System-on-Chip THz System-on-Chip (TSoC) is emerging as an attractive alternative to the routine free-space THz systems to reduce physical bulk, propagation loss, pulse dispersion and cost of free-space THz systems. Recently, our research group succeeded in demonstrating a novel waveguided TSoC based on the coplanar stripline Coplanar Stripline (CPS) transmission lines on a 1 µm-thin Silicon Nitride membrane. The novelty of this membrane-based platform was bonding the transmitter and receiver directly on the transmission line to eliminate the radiation loss by the routine THz optics. Besides, the delicate thin-membrane dramatically reduces the dielectric loss of the platform which results in low-loss and low-dispersion THz-bandwidth pulses. In this paper, we introduce the design, theoretical model and the simulation results of a novel THz Apodized Bragg Grating (TABG) based on a periodic reflection of consecutive different impedance sections of CPS transmission lines on the membrane platform. This structure was introduced based on theoretical modelling and the simulation results. The CPS-TABG consists of 20 λ/2-length cascaded sections. The central frequency of the bandstop filter was selected around 0.8 THz to avoid signal distortion of the received terahertz pulse.

Résumé :
Intensity analyses with low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) are reported for surface structures obtained by adsorbing submonolayer amounts of oxygen on the (100) surface of copper. It is found for chemisorption on the four-coordinate hollow sites that the correspondence between experimental and calculated intensity-versus-energy curves, for 10 diffracted beams, is slightly better for coplanar adsorption than for adsorption about 0.75 Å above the surface (the latter model is essentially as proposed previously by both SEXAFS and photoelectron diffraction). Nevertheless, in neither of these contrasting situations is the agreement sufficient to conclude that the structural analysis is complete. Evidence is presented that nearly coplanar chemisorption, in combination with a missing row model, can accommodate a number of structural features for this system, including the existence of the (2√2 × √2)45°−O phase, beam splittings resulting from antiphase domain boundaries, and the structural analogy noted in other studies between the (2√2 × √2)45°−O phase and the stepped nature of the (410) copper surface which can form by faceting in oxygen. Considerations of O–Cu surface bond lengths, guided by those in bulk Cu2O, suggest that additional lateral relaxations are likely in the topmost copper layer. This study provides no support for the O chemisorption occurring in tetrahedral-type sites.

Résumé :
Among other CubeSat subsystems, Antenna is one of the most important CubeSat components as its design determines all the telecommunication subsystems’ performances. This paper presents a coplanar wave-guide (CPW)-fed equilateral triangular slot antenna constructed and analyzed for CubeSat communications at S-band. The proposed antenna alone presents high gain and ultra-wide band while its radiation pattern is bidirectional at an unlicensed frequency of 2450 MHz. The objective is to use the CubeSat chassis as a reflector for reducing the back-lobe radiation and hence minimizing interferences with electronic devices inside the CubeSat. This leads to a high gain of 8.20 dBi and a unidirectional radiation pattern at an industrial, scientific and mdical (ISM) band operating frequency of 2450 MHz. In addition to that, the presented antenna is low-profile and exhibits high return loss, ultra-wide impedance bandwidth, and good impedance matching at 2450 MHz.

Résumé :
This paper exhibits a high-gain, low-profile dipole antenna array (DAA) for 5G applications. The dipole element has a semi-triangular shape to realize a simple input impedance regime. To reduce the overall antenna size, a substrate integrated cavity (SIC) is adopted as a power splitter feeding network. The transition between the SIC and the antenna element is achieved by a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to increase the degree of freedom of impedance matching. Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterial technique is exploited for gain enhancement. The ENZ metamaterial unit cells of meander shape are placed in front of each dipole perpendicularly to guide the radiated power into the broadside direction. The prospective antenna has an overall size of 2.58 λg3 and operates from 28.5 GHz up to 30.5 GHz. The gain is improved by 5 dB compared to that of the antenna without ENZ unit cells, reaching 11 dBi at the center frequency of 29.5 GHz. Measured and simulated results show a reasonable agreement.

Résumé :
In this paper, a Coplanar Wave Guide (CPW)-Fed microstrip octagonal patch antenna for RFID Applications is proposed. The studied structure is suitable for 2.45/5.80 GHz applications. The octagonal shape is obtained by making triangular cuts in the four angles of the rectangular microstrip patch antenna; in addition the using of CPW-Fed allows obtaining UWB characteristics in the higher band. The miniaturization in the antenna size for lower band is achieved by introducing an inverted E slot in the radiating element. The proposed antenna is designed on a single and a small substrate board of dimensions 29.5×29.5×1.6 mm3. Moreover the miniaturized antenna has a good impedance matching and an enhanced gain. The simulation analysis was performed using the CADFEKO software, a Method of Moment (MoM) based solver, and a prototype of this antenna was fabricated, good agreement with the simulation providing validation of the design procedure. The measurements are done with ANRITSU MS2026C Vectorial Network Analyzer.

Résumé :
A dielectric-based multilayer structure composed of U-shaped rings (ML-UR) is used to develop a class of novel electromagnetic band gap (EBG) slab waveguide. The structure has two band gaps that narrow down as dielectric constant is increased. The EBG slab waveguide is created by embedding a single-layer line defect inside the 3D crystal of the EBG slab guide. Unlike our previously published foam-based EBG structure, the use of dielectric spacer in the EBG waveguides offers significant advantages in terms of overall size, structure reliability, and design flexibility. The waveguide structures reported in this paper are designed to operate at X-band (8–12 GHz) while being fed by coplanar-slotline transitions. Prototypes were fabricated and characterized experimentally. The insertion loss decreases by decreasing the number of full lattices of ML-UR surrounding the channels. The proposed waveguide has potential in microwave components such as directional couplers, phase shifters, and antenna array feeding networks.
