Résumé :
Currently, green synthesis approach is used as the biocompatible, eco-friendly, and sustainable alternative of conventional approaches to synthesize iron oxide nanoparticles. In this work, magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized by using plantain peel extract via green and biogenic approach. The surface of green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles was functionalized to increase the stability of the nanoparticles and maintain the coexisting of both magnetic and catalytic property of the nanoparticles at the same time. Two kinds of surface functionalization structures were synthesized in this study, included silica core-iron oxide shell nanoparticles and silica core-PDDA polymerized iron oxide shell nanoparticles. The main concern of this study is the performance of bare and surface functionalized green synthesized nanoparticles. Methylene blue and methyl orange dyes were used as the model of dye removal test to indicate the feasibility of the synthesized nanocomposites. In summary, surface functionalized nanocomposites achieved higher dye removal efficiency than bare green synthesized iron oxide nanoparticles in both the methylene blue and methyl orange degradation test. Methylene blue dye was removed in higher rate than methyl orange dye due to the presence of negatively charged iron oxide nanoparticles with both the adsorptive and catalytic properties. At last, the components present in plantain peel extract were confirmed by using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy.

Résumé :
Green synthesis nanoparticles were considered as an alternative effective resource instead of chemically engineered metal oxide nanoparticles. Using leaf extracts for green synthesis, essential for the reduction and oxidation process of the metals. Phyllanthus niruri (L.) and Aristolochia indica (L.) leaf extracts were used to synthesize yellowish brown coloured silver (Ag) and white coloured zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Synthesized green nanoparticles characterized by different spectroscopic analysis (XRD, XPS, FTIR, PL) and TEM. Characterization results confirmed the particles morphology, size, structure and also their optical and photonic properties. Three different concentrations of Ag and ZnO NPs were analysed against three (gram positive) and five (gram negative) bacteria. Increased levels of green synthesized Ag and ZnO NPs showed increased zone of inhibition than amoxicillin (positive control). Our study proved that the green synthesized Ag and ZnO NPs showed similar unique physical and chemical properties with metal oxide nanoparticles but less toxic while their discharge into the ecosystem.

Résumé :
Green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles using plant sources has become an excellent substitute for conventional chemical synthetic methods. Nowadays, nano biotechnology is growing at a very fast rate due to its various possible application in the pharmaceutical biomedical, textile, paper industries. In our study, we have reported the green synthesis of chalcogenide nanostructure pharmacologically active chromium oxide (Cr2O3) nanoparticles using synthesized chromium (III) complex as a single route precursor. The synthesized chromium (III) complex was reacted with an aqueous extract of cinnamon bark for the green synthesis of Cr2O3 nanoparticles. In the present study, we aimed to synthesize chromium oxide nanoparticles (Cr2O3 NPs) through a facile low-cost, eco-friendly route. In this method, we use the aqueous environment for green synthesize of Cr2O3 NPs because the use of an aqueous medium plays a very important role in reducing time, reducing minimum possibilities of side reactions and proper execution of conversions of synthesized Cr(III) complex into a good quality of Cr2O3 NPs in a very less time. The synthesized chromium (III) complex and green synthesized Cr2O3 NPs were thoroughly analyzed through various structural, morphological, electronic, vibrational and pharmacological characterization techniques. Powdered X-ray diffraction studies confirm the formation of well-defined equip spaced crystalline nanoparticles of chromium oxide. Transmission electron microscopy exhibits oval-shaped structure of Cr2O3 NPs with an average particle size of 48 nm. Sharp electronic absorptions ends at 345nm for Cr(III) complex and at 429nm indicates the synthesis of good quality of chromium(III) complex and Cr2O3 NPs. The FT-IR spectral studies confirmed the presence of Cr-O stretching, N-H bonding and C=O stretching vibrations in synthesized Cr(III) complex was performed to investigate the thermal stability of the complex. The Cr(III) complex is stable up to 350ºC. The effective pharmacological activities like in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities explained the presence of strong electron-withdrawing and electronwithdrawing groups in synthesized chromium (III) complex. The green synthesis of Cr2O3 NPs via aqueous extract of cinnamon back in proper stoichiometric ratio is a good method for synthesizing highly effective bioactive agents which will be considered as a good drug candidate for various biological applications in future for various biomedical applications

Résumé :
Chitosan has become a highlighted polymer, gaining paramount importance and research attention. The fact that this valuable polymer can be extracted from food industry-generated shell waste gives it immense value. Chitosan, owing to its biological and physicochemical properties, has become an attractive option for biomedical applications. This review briefly runs through the various methods involved in the preparation of chitosan and chitosan nanoforms. For the first time, we consolidate the available scattered reports on the various attempts towards greens synthesis of chitosan, chitosan nanomaterials, and chitosan nanocomposites. The drug delivery applications of chitosan and its nanoforms have been reviewed. This review points to the lack of systematic research in the area of green synthesis of chitosan. Researchers have been concentrating more on recovering chitosan from marine shell waste through chemical and synthetic processes that generate toxic wastes, rather than working on eco-friendly green processes—this is projected in this review. This review draws the attention of researchers to turn to novel and innovative green processes. More so, there are scarce reports on the application of green synthesized chitosan nanoforms and nanocomposites towards drug delivery applications. This is another area that deserves research focus. These have been speculated and highlighted as future perspectives in this review.

Résumé :
Abstract The anticancer activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is well known to be synthesized using green-synthesized methods, although its mechanism of action is not understood fully. Moringa oleifera leaves were used as reducing and stabilizing agents to synthesize AgNPs. Green-synthesized AgNPs were characterized using ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, transmission electronic microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, Fourier transform infrared, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses. The synthesized nanoparticles were then characterized by their anticancer properties by performing a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. The real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to check the expression levels of the four genes (β-catenin, adenomatous polyposis coli (APC), and lipoprotein receptor-related proteins 5 and 6 (LRP5/6)). The synthesized nanoparticles were 25 nm on average and spherical in shape and aggregated form. Noteworthy cytotoxicity is how green-synthesized M. oleifera–AgNPs were observed in comparison with the M. oleifera leaf extract against a cancerous cell line. The M. oleifera–AgNPs decreased the expression of CTNNB1 and LRP6 genes, while the LRP5 gene expression increased in both cell lines. With treatment, the APC gene expression decreased in SW480 but increased in HTC116. Our results imply that AgNPs synthesized by M. oleifera extract could be an ideal strategy to combat colon cancer.

Résumé :
In this study, three types of hydrophobized alkyl-modified magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) comprising direct alkylated-MNPs (A-MNPs), silica-mediated alkyl MNPs (A-SiMNPs), and arginine (Arg)-mediated alkyl MNPs (A-RMNPs) were synthesized successfully. For this purpose, the co-precipitation method was used to synthesize, and octadecyl trimethoxy silane (OTMS) was used as a functionalizing agent. Accordingly, the hydrophobic octadecyl moieties were connected to MNPs. The nanoparticles (NPs) were characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, CHN, DLS, and zeta potential analyses. The synthesized coated MNPs represented a decrease in surface charge and magnetization alongside increased surface hydrophobicity and size. It was revealed that the alkylation process was successfully performed to all three MNPs, but A-SiMNPs showed the highest hydrophobicity. Additionally, the novel A-RMNPs, as the most biocompatible type, and A-MNPs showed the highest magnetization among the synthesized MNPs. The results indicate that synthesized NPs can play an important role in bio applications. However, it was revealed that alkyl chains are easily connected to all three MNPs, and that A-MNPs contained the highest alkyl chains and could affect the re-folding and denaturation process of recombinant proteins.

Aim: To synthesize silica nanoparticles (SNPs) from olive residue with anticancer properties. Methods: SNPs were synthesized from olive residue ash (ORA). After characterization, cytotoxicity of the SNPs was assessed in vitro, with measurement of reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Results: The average diameter of the synthesized SNPs was 30–40 nm, and zeta potential analysis suggested they were stable. The synthesized SNPs were less cytotoxic than commercially available SNPs against fibroblast cells, and the cytotoxic effect on breast cancer cells was significantly higher compared with fibroblast cells. SNPs showed greater uptake into cancer cells where there was greater production of free radicals. Conclusion: SNPs synthesized from ORA have potential anticancer applications because they are more cytotoxic toward cancer cells than fibroblast cells.

Résumé :
Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles is of great importance in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Various phytochemical constituents present in whole or parts of plants can act as reducing, capping and stabilizing agents in the synthesis of silver nanoparticle (AgNPs) by green method. In this work, AgNPs have been successfully synthesized in the laboratory by chemical reduction and green method. NaBH4 was used as a reducing agent in chemical reduction method whereas Zingiber officinale leaf extract was used as reducing and capping agent in green method. The properties of as synthesized AgNPs by both green and chemical methods have been examined by UV-Vis spectroscopy, XRD and FTIR method. Besides these, biological activities of as synthesized AgNPs were tested against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli which exhibited remarkable antimicrobial activities in green method. Based on the result, it is found that AgNPs synthesized from ginger plant (Zingiber officinale) leaf extract exhibited significant antimicrobial effect than that by chemically synthesized AgNPs.

Résumé :
ZnS nanostructures are synthesized by a wet chemical route using starch as green capping agent under nitrogen environment. The as-prepared nanostructures are characterized structurally, optically and electrically. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra confirm that the zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles have cubic phase (zinc blende). UV–Vis spectrum of the sample clearly shows that the absorption peak exhibits blue shift compared to their bulk counterpart, which confirms the quantum confinement effect of the nanostructures. Its photoluminescence (PL) spectrum shows near band gap emission at 392[Formula: see text]nm and extrinsic emission at 467[Formula: see text]nm. The particle sizes calculated from XRD and UV studies are in fair agreement with high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results. Starch is found to be a noble capping agent in bringing quantum confinement. The synthesis under nitrogen environment has been observed to produce quality products by reducing the oxide traces. Moreover, the I–V characteristics under dark and illumination show that ZnS can be more suitable as photodetector.

Résumé :
Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted a great deal of attention in the recent years. It is mostly due to their availability, chemical stability, catalytic activity, conductivity, biocompatibility and anticancer activity. There are three major approaches for AgNPs synthesis; i.e., chemical, physical, and biological methods. Today, many chemical and physical methods have become less popular due to usage of hazardous chemicals or their high costs, respectively. The green method has introduced an appropriate substitute synthesis strategy for the conventional physical and chemical approaches. The utilization of the plant extracts as reducing, stabilizing and coating agent of AgNPs is an interesting eco-friendly approach leading to high efficiency. The anticancer synergistic effects among the AgNPs and phytochemicals will enhance their therapeutic potentials. Surprisingly, although many studies have demonstrated the significant enhancement in cytotoxic activities of plant-mediated AgNPs toward cancerous cells, these nanoparticles (NPs) have been found nontoxic to normal human cells in their therapeutic concentrations. This paper provides a specific insight into the mechanism of plant-mediated AgNPs synthesis, their anticancer and cytotoxic activities in vitro cancer cells, in vivo model animals and clinical trials.

The objective of this research is to study antibacterial and antistatic properties of polyamide yarn which coated silver nanoparticles and carboxymethylstarch (CMS). Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by a green synthesis method and coated onto polyamide (PA) fibers. The presence of nanosilver onto yarns was confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), UV–visible spectra (UV-Vis) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The concentration of silver deposited on the composite PA yarns was measured by ICP-OES spectroscopy. Electrical conductivity of composite yarns was measured by four point conductivity measurement technique and was changed from 1.452x10-5 to 2.853x10-3 S/cm.

Résumé :
A facile green method to synthesize fluorescent Ag nanoclusters (NCs) has been developed by employing glutathione (GSH) as capping agent as well as reducing agent. The fluorescent nanocomposites powder possesses strong emission and excellent stability. By changing the mole ratios of glutathione to silver precursor, nanoclusters with different emissions are obtained. The as-synthesized GSH-Ag nanocomposite is well characterized by fluorescence spectroscopy, HRTEM, XPS, and IR spectroscopy. The green synthesis procedure has also been used to synthesize fluorescent GSH-Au nanoclusters with good success.

Résumé :
The discovery of various advanced materials that are applicable in remediation of environment pollutants was rapidly advancing because of their applications in wide range. Green synthesized Nano particles (NPs) were currently gaining attention in photodegradation of dyes and metals due to its ecofriendly, cost effective and simple production. Hence this study intended to synthesize and characterize the nano sized copper particles using aqueous root extract of Schrebera swietenioides Roxb., as green reducing agent. The synthesized NPs were characterized and proved that the NPs were aggregates with spherical shape to undefined shapes with an average particle size of 32±4 nm and contain 82.5 % of copper metal in the particles. Further, the synthesized NPs were applied for the removal of Sudan red (III) dye, Azure A dye and Lead metal. The findings proved that the NPs had potential degradation efficacy on the degradation of Sudan dye, Azure A dye and Lead metal. The NPs were durable and could be reusable with high degradation efficacy after three cycles of study for both dyes and metal in the study. Therefore, the green synthesized Cu NPs are potential candidates for photocatalytic applications. Keywords: Copper nano particles, Photo catalytic activity, Azure A dye, Lead metal degradation.

Résumé :
In this work, the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized using Areca catechu extracts against three species of antibiotic-susceptible and three species of resistant bacteria was investigated. The effects of this plant were more promising when compared with other medicinal plants tested. The hydrothermal extract of Areca catechu was mixed with silver nitrate to synthesize AgNPs. The synthesized particle characteristics were analyzed by UV–Vis spectrophotometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration tests were conducted to confirm antibacterial activity and the results showed that AgNPs synthesized using Areca catechu extracts effectively inhibited the growth of bacterial species. Moreover, the SEM images of the bacterial species treated with AgNPs synthesized with Areca catechu extracts showed that clusters of AgNPs were attached to the surface of the bacterial cell wall, which could induce destruction of the cell membranes. The results suggest that AgNPs synthesized with Areca catechu extracts have the potential to treat antibiotic-resistant bacteria known as the major cause of nosocomial infections.
