Résumé :
We have attempted a green alternative to reuse the spent fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst that is used in petroleum refining industry for the upgradation and purification of various petroleum streams and residues. The spent FCC zeolite–based catalyst modified by enhancing the acidic properties by incorporating Zn and In metals in the matrix. The various prepared catalysts were systematically characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET; adsorption isotherm) surface area. The acidity of the materials was studied by temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia (NH3-TPD). The well-characterized catalysts were applied for liquid phase benzylation of o-xylene using benzyl chloride.

Abstract: The contemporary zeitgeist of the national capital is rendered in haze and smog due to extensive stubble burning. The paper talks of the various steps the government has already taken and tries to identify the lacuna behind its unjust boom. It also looks at the effective use of various agro wastes and turning them into a 21st-century industry product, for biogas generation or construction material, which can foster a pyramidal development through economic, environmental, and social sustainability. It also identifies the indispensable role of the government not just in creating awareness and structuring better policies but rather in providing opportunities by agglomerating the demand and supply chain to stimulate the waste into revenue generation.

Résumé :
The subject of this study is the principles, factors and features of the green economy as a complex multicomponent system. It was important to clarify the ontology of the term “development” and to propose a methodology for filling the meaning of this term with a specific scientific approach, which consisted in identifying factors that shape directed, natural (regular) and inevitable changes as mandatory elements of development in the philosophical sense of the latter. The article analyzes different approaches to the definition of green economy, which gave the authors a reason to propose their own perception of the green economy as a socio-eco-economic system, which should be simultaneous under directed, natural (regular) and inevitable changes to ensure its development. The authors dwelled on the characteristics of each of the three mandatory changes. Directed changes in the green economy as a system were considered through the prism of seventeen goals of sustainable development (defining those for which the green economy “works” directly), which form new requirements for key components of the economic system: production, exchange, distribution and consumption. Regular changes are characterized as those that correspond or do not contradict the basic economic laws of the post-industrial era and form the ecological basis for the competitiveness of the economy. Irreversibility of change is defined as justified regulatory measures of strict environmental and economic policy, based on the methodological, proven by scientists, the principle of regulation in a mixed economic system and the abandonment of free market mechanisms (which “does not work” to achieve sustainable development). The authors have proposed a system-hierarchical approach to ensuring intermediate principles of green economy development as a system (direction, regularity and irreversibility of changes) and their integral effect on the quality of sustainable development of the social system as a whole. Further directions of research of system principles of development of green economy have been defined as well.

Résumé :
Recently, green financing has become a popular technique for dealing with environmental issues. However, whether green financing is effective in addressing current global environmental issues remains to be seen since the green investment gap has been discovered to be rather sizable, with no certainty regarding how to fill it. The purpose of this study was to systematically analyze green finance in all of its forms, instruments, and measurements. Herein, we highlighted overall research trends in an effort to enhance green finance for inclusive green investment, as well as examined the progress needed to fill the green finance gap. This study also provides information on which authors, countries, publishers, and journals are contributing most to green finance. The methodological approach used in many reviewed papers was determined as a benchmark for those authors interested in green finance. Moreover, this study critically analyzes and summarizes 146 relevant studies. The results of our review study imply that the green financing gap is frequently observed because of low finance levels, poor green project selection/management, risk and return trade-off, and a lack of analytical tools and expertise in identifying and assessing green project risks. More specifically, regulatory issues have been observed as the main challenge in enhancing green finance. Therefore, we propose further studies to be conducted on how to enhance green finance for green investment that could deliberately affect green growth. Simultaneously, we noted what incentives could initiate private investors to make green investments, and what additional green financing methods should be introduced to fill the financing gap. Finally, this study seeks to have an impact in assisting future studies to consider the status of each country in terms of green finance mobilization and capital contribution by sharing the specific experience of that country and what lessons could be learned from that country.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address two research questions: which are the key factors that stimulate entrepreneurs to invest in ecopreneurship, and how ecopreneurhsip contributes to environmental sustainability. Design/methodology/approach To answer these questions, a framework has been developed to identify the incentives that lead entrepreneurs to invest in firms in the ecopreneurship through institutional and resource-based thinking. Findings From a survey of 91 Greek firms from the green service sector, it is shown that some specific institutional and resource-based view factors play a critical role in green entrepreneurs’ decisions, as well as some certain environmental practices that are frequently used by entrepreneurs to address environmental issues. Research limitations/implications First, the answer of the second research question through data collected by a questionnaire survey may be faced with skepticism by some authors, as it could be seen that entrepreneurs and managers of firms could have overstated their company's environmental activities. Second, although the sample selection of 91 firms is a representative sample (response rate 12.35 percent) of the total population of Greek green firms (761) and equal to other relative studies, a higher number of firms and a wider variety of green entrepreneurship ventures is necessary in future research. Practical implications The findings are useful for scholars, practitioners and policy makers since it provide information regarding the behavior of green entrepreneurs. Originality/value The paper analyze the types of green entrepreneurs in relation to the different features and strategies which are emerged from two theories, such as institutional and resource-based theory.

Résumé :
Abstract Nowadays, Industries compete one to each other on many factors. When industries improve productivity, they may ignore the environmental effect. Green Productivity is a concept that can improve both productivity and environmental performance. Thus, this research was conducted in the batik industry namely Batik Ayu Arimbi. The Batik industry is known as one of the most polluting industries since it creates both liquid and solid waste. Most of them release the waste directly into nature without disposing it in a proper way. After the EPI index has been calculated, it is known that the environmental performance of this industry is far below the government standards. To tackle the issue, this research uses the green productivity approach. This approach results in 2 (two) alternatives solutions for Batik production which increased the productivity as well as the EPI index.

Résumé :
The advantageous properties of ethylene glycol diacetate (EGDA) qualify it as a useful substitute for glycerol triacetate (GTA) for various green applications. We scrutinised the lipase-mediated acetylation of structurally diverse alcohols in neat EGDA furnishing the range of naturally occurring fragrant acetates. We found that such enzymatic system exhibits high reactivity and selectivity towards activated (homo) allylic and non-activated primary/secondary alcohols. This feature was utilised in the scalable multigram synthesis of fragrant (Z)-hex-3-en-1-yl acetate in 70% yield. In addition, the Lipozyme 435/EGDA system was also found to be applicable for the chemo-selective acetylation of (hydroxyalkyl) phenols as well as for the kinetic resolution of chiral secondary alcohols. Lastly, its discrimination power was demonstrated in competitive experiments of equimolar mixtures of two isomeric alcohols. This enabled the practical synthesis of 1-pentyl acetate isolated as a single product in 68% yield from the equimolar mixture of 1-pentanol and 3-pentanol.

Résumé :
Green buildings refer to buildings that decrease adverse environmental effects and maintain natural resources. They can diminish energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, the usage of non-renewable materials, water consumption, and waste generation while improving occupants’ health and well-being. As such, several rating tools and benchmarks have been developed worldwide to assess green building performance (GBP), including the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) in the United Kingdom, German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in the United States and Canada, Comprehensive Assessment System for Built Environment Efficiency (CASBEE) in Japan, Green Star in Australia, Green Mark in Singapore, and Green Building Index in Malaysia. Energy management (EM) during building operation could also improve GBP. One of the best approaches to evaluating the impact of EM on GBP is by using structural equation modelling (SEM). SEM is a commanding statistical method to model testing. One of the most used SEM variance-based approaches is partial least squares (PLS), which can be implemented in the SmartPLS application. PLS-SEM uses path coefficients to determine the strength and significance of the hypothesised relationships between the latent constructs.

Résumé :
By providing numerous services through the internet and utilizing a variety of resources, cloud computing is a solution to diverse computational difficulties. Problems with energy use and carbon emissions are constant in the IT sector. Datacenters are an essential component of cloud computing. Because of this, there is a growing desire to open more and more datacenters. The greater power consumption at data centres raises the costs on an economic and environmental level. Additionally, the greenhouse effect and carbon footprint have increased due to the increasing release of CO2 and other gases. These are the forces driving the development of green computing. Résumé :
More efficient usage of limited energy resources on embedded platforms, found in various IoT applications, is identified as a universal challenge in designing such devices and systems. Although many power management techniques for control and optimization of device power consumption have been introduced at the hardware and software level, only few of them are addressing device operation at the application level. In this paper, a software engineering approach for managing the operation of IoT edge devices is presented. This approach involves a set of the application-level software parameters that affect consumption of the IoT device and its real-time behavior. To investigate and illustrate the impact of the introduced parameters on the device performance and its energy footprint, we utilize a custom-built simulation environment. The simulation results obtained from analyzing simplified data producer-consumer configuration of IoT edge tier, under push-based communication model, confirm that careful tuning of the identified set of parameters can lead to more energy efficient IoT end-device operation.

Résumé :
One of the factors that threaten fresh water quality is the input of anthropogenic nutrients, a problem heightened in urban areas with lots of impervious surfaces. The implementation of stormwater green infrastructure allows stormwater runoff to be filtered before entering waterways, reducing nutrient input. Stormwater green infrastructure includes installations such as green roofs, green alleyways, and parks which can provide environmental, mental and physical health benefits to local residents who may have lacked access to green space. However, such installations can also have the counter intuitive effect of gentrification, termed the ‘green space paradox’. Through the review of published literature and case studies, a holistic design of stormwater green infrastructure implementation is presented in this study, which includes public participation, sustainability, and equity of distribution.

Résumé :
Abstract The focus on profit and continuous struggle for increasing market share has gradually led to the neglect of the environment. The opportunist behavior of companies by threatening of ecological environment has led to a indirect neglect of its consumers. According to that, the implementation of green approach in all business areas has to be present. When it comes to a supply chain and its sustainability in an ecological sense, the question of adequate choice of suppliers and/or partners is a priority. The process of supplier selection is the first stage in the process of designing the supply chain. Therefore, this phase will decide whether the whole supply chain will be green-oriented. The aim of the paper is to point out the increasing implementation of the green approach in the supply chain, and above all in the supplier selection process. In addition, the paper analyses the impact of the economic environment as a factor of implementation of the green approach. In order to verify the hypothesis, the authors analyze EPI and LPI indexes, as well as the correlation between them. According to the results of the analysis, the authors indicate which countries are the green destinations and also the source of the green suppliers (green partners).

Résumé :
This research developed an integrated theoretical framework encompassing green image congruence, care for the environmental consequences, eco-conscious behaviors, sense of moral obligation, and perceived environmental corporate social responsibility (CSR) in order to explain customer approach behaviors for green hotels. Previous researches discussed about environmental behavior and consumer behavior. However, customer environmentally responsible approach decision formation and consumption activities are an insufficiently explored topic. This study implemented quantitative research methodological. The findings of this study showed the correlation of research constructs are significant and such relationships contribute to boosting of customer approach behaviors. Sense of obligation to take green actions as a mediator maximized the effect of other research variables on approach behaviors. In addition, a prominent role of the sense of moral obligation to take green actions in determining approach behaviors was uncovered. Perceived environmental CSR played a vital moderating role within the proposed conceptual framework. The outcomes of this research can help hotel operators and academics better comprehend customer pro-environmental decision-making process and behaviors.

Résumé :
Pacific Green is a green furniture company producing up-market furniture made from senile coconut trees. This paper explores the unique characteristics of this company and its success in world markets. Originally operating only in Fiji, the company now sources finished wood from Fiji and carries out its manufacturing assembly operations in China. It has showrooms across the world. The paper also highlights issues which need to be further explored, including concerns from the fast growing coconut oil skin care industry in Fiji about continued availability of high quality coconut oil, since senile trees still produce at a reduced but reasonable rate and no formal replanting program is in place. Coconut oil is also being considered as a viable source of biofuel, placing further pressure on future coconut availability.

Résumé :
Distributed renewable energy offers an exciting opportunity for sustainable transition and climate change mitigation. However, it is overlooked in most of the conventional tradable green certificates programs. Blockchain shows an advantage of incorporating a galaxy of distributed prosumers in a transparent and low-cost manner. This paper proposes I-Green, a blockchain-based individual green certificates system for promoting voluntary adoption of distributed renewable energy. Combing the features of blockchain technology and the theories of social norm and peer effects, the novel green ratio incentive scheme and proof of generation consensus protocol are designed for I-Green. A blockchain simulator is constructed to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of I-Green system. The simulation results present its potential for facilitating widespread adoption of distributed generation, and confirm the feasibility of blockchain as the information communication technology (ICT).

Résumé :
In recent decades, the attention of scientists has been drawn towards nanoparticles (NPs) of metals and metalloids. Traditional methods for the manufacturing of NPs are now being extensively studied. However, disadvantages such as the use of toxic agents and high energy consumption associated with chemical and physical processes impede their continued use in various fields. In this article, we analyse the relevance of the use of living systems and their components for the development of "green" synthesis of nano-objects with exceptional properties and a wide range of applications. The use of nano-biotechnological methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles has the potential of large-scale application and high commercial potential. Bacteria are an extremely convenient target for green nanoparticle synthesis due to their variety and ability to adapt to different environmental conditions. Synthesis of nanoparticles by microorganisms can occur both intracellularly and extracellularly. It is known that individual bacteria are able to bind and concentrate dissolved metal ions and metalloids, thereby detoxifying their environment. There are various bacteria cellular components such as enzymes, proteins, peptides, pigments, which are involved in the formation of nanoparticles. Bio-intensive manufacturing of NPs is environmentally friendly and inexpensive and requires low energy consumption. Some biosynthetic NPs are used as heterogeneous catalysts for environmental restoration, exhibiting higher catalytic efficiency due to their stability and increased biocompatibility. Bacteria used as nanofactories can provide a new approach to the removal of metal or metalloid ions and the production of materials with unique properties. Although a wide range of NPs have been biosynthetic and their synthetic mechanisms have been proposed, some of these mechanisms are not known in detail. This review focuses on the synthesis and catalytic applications of NPs obtained using bacteria. Known mechanisms of bioreduction and prospects for the development of NPs for catalytic applications are discussed.
