Résumé :
The history of lymphatic system research goes back to ancient times. Lymph nodes were likely first mentioned in the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt. Hippocrates (5th century BC) in the 5th century BC was one of the first to mention the lymphatic system. One of the first descriptions of what can be attributed to lymphatic vessels can be found in Aristotle. The Byzantine physician Pavlo Aeginsky was a famous surgeon who illustrated the tonsils and performed the first tonsillectomy, which allowed him to identify and describe infected cervical lymph nodes. Indian and Islamic medicine, especially Avicenna, gave interesting descriptions of lymphedema (elephant disease) due to frequent parasitic infections which are more common in eastern regions. Rufus of Ephesus, a Roman physician, discovered the axillary, inguinal, and mesenteric lymph nodes, as well as the thymus, in the 1st-2nd century AD. The first mention of lymphatic vessels was in the 3rd century BC by Herophilus, a Greek anatomist who lived in Alexandria. The Alexandrian school made significant contributions to the study of the lymphatic system stemming from the works of Galen. However, whether the structures described were lymphatic vessels is still debated. Erasistratus, during the dissection of a dairy lamb, showed that the abdominal arteries are filled with milk. Very likely, this is the first misinterpreted study of mesenteric lymphatic vessels. Based on the first observations made by the medieval Arab anatomist ibn Al-Nafis, the Spanish scientist and theologian Miguel Servetus, and the Italian anatomist Realdo Colombo, who described pulmonary circulation, and Andrea Cesalpino, who first introduced the term "circulation" in relation to the cardiovascular system, it was established basic regularities of the structure of the lymphatic system. In the middle of the 16th century, Gabriele Fallopio (researcher of fallopian tubes) described the vessels now known as "mammary glands". Based on all these discoveries, the Italian surgeon and anatomist Giovanni Guglielmo Riva was the first to present a graphic representation of the lymphatic system in two of his four oil paintings, which are now kept in the Academy of History "Arte Sanitaria" in Rome.

Résumé :
Abstract Introduction: In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) LKB1 mutations combined with KRAS hyperactivation define a poor responsive, aggressive and disseminating phenotype. We recently unveiled the vulnerability of KRAS/LKB1 co-mutated (KL) patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) to metabolic stress-based treatments, and a clinical trial to test the efficacy of metformin and fasting-mimicking diet on KL NSCLC is currently ongoing in our Institute. Besides inactivating mutations, LKB1 functionality may be impaired by post-translation regulation. Because miR-17 is a potential epigenetic regulator of LKB1,we hypothesized that wild-type LKB1 (LKB1WT) NSCLC with high miR-17 expression may biologically and clinically mirror LKB1 mutated tumors. Methods: NSCLC cell lines with different combinations of KRAS mutation and LKB1 deletion were selected, together with a panel of PDXs with high (LKB1WT/miR-17 high) or low (LKB1WT/miR-17 low) miR-17 expression. Taking advantage of series of NSCLC patients and PDXs, we retrospectively evaluated LKB1 and miR-17 expression levels in tumor tissue specimens. In addition, the TCGA dataset was interrogated for miR-17 expression and potential correlation with lung cancer clinical features. Results: Direct targeting of miR-17 to LKB1 3’UTR was confirmed by luciferase reporter assay. We found that miR-17 overexpression in LKB1WT cell lines functionally impaired the LKB1/AMPK pathway, and prompted apoptotic response to metformin. Of note, LKB1WT/miR-17 high PDXs tumor cells showed a similar behavior upon metformin treatment. A retrospective analysis in patients with NSCLC revealed an inverse correlation between miR-17 and LKB1 expression, and highlighted a prognostic role of miR-17 expression in LKB1WT patients, further confirmed by TCGA data analysis. Conclusions: We validated miR-17 as epigenetic regulator of LKB1 expression in NSCLC tumors. We propose a miR-17 expression score potentially exploitable to discriminate LKB1WT NSCLC patients with impaired LKB1 expression and poor outcome, eligible for energy-stress-based treatments. Résumé :
The present text is the second instalment of the cycle of articles based on its author’s doctoral dissertation entitled The birth of cello as a solo instrument – instruments, prac-tice, and selected literature examples (Academy of Music in Łódź, 2017). It is an at-tempt to systematise the knowledge about the first cello literature creators and their compositions. The text includes descriptions (characterisations) of the first pieces writ-ten for the cello as early as in the 17th century along with short biographical sketches of their composers. The article characterises the main centres of development of cello mu-sic, such as Bologna and Modena, the places of work of Giovanni Battista Vitali, Do-menico Gabrielli, Petronio Franceschini, Giuseppe Jacchini, Bononcini brothers, Gio-vanni Battista Degli Antoni, Domenico Galii, Giuseppe Colombi, and others. These composers mainly focused around Bologna’s Accademia Filarmonica and Basilica of San Petronio, as well as the court of Francesco II d'Este in Modena. The article also pays attention to the circumstances in which the first attempts to write cello pieces were made. Moreover, it mentions singular historical items of early cello literature written in such centres as Rome, Venice or Naples, where Carlo Fedeli, Giovanni Lorenzo Lulier, Nicola Francesco Haym or other composers worked.

Résumé :
‘By studying political parties we imply that the party is a meaningful unit of analysis. Yet we go above the party as a unit, for we also study the party system. By the same token we can go below the party as a unit and study, thereby, the party subunits.’1 This statement by Giovanni Sartori, while published in 1976, might well have been a beacon for budding stasiologists of the early 1960s — certainly for those with a particular interest in Latin America. Following upon such Western European—orientated classics as the works of Maurice Duverger, Sigmund Neumann and Alfred Diamant,2 there seemed genuine intellectual impetus to produce significant scholarship on the parties of what were then customarily termed either the developing or the ‘non—western’ polities. For Latin America, the time appeared ripe for conceptual progress. To be sure, there was justification in remarking that the study of parties in the region was relatively new, while ‘methodo—logical accomplishments have been primitive’.3 Yet this condition was presumably transitory. In the years to follow there were more serious exploratory efforts, and in time a modest number of case—studies began appearing.4 When the cyclical alternation of democratic and dictatorial regimes began to swing toward the latter by the early 1970s, however, scholarly interest dropped off. More generally, stasiological research went into decline.5 For students of Latin America, only the recent trend toward democratisation has stimulated a revival of interest in parties, campaigns and elections.6 Thus Lorenzo Meyer, for instance, described parties as institutions necessary ‘to channel the energies of social movements, labour unions, and other antiauthoritarian forces present at the beginning of the re—emergence of civil society’.7

Résumé :
BackgroundAK119 is an Fc-engineered humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting human CD73. CD73-extracellular adenosine pathway regulates conversion of pro-inflammatory and immuno-stimulatory extracellular adenosine ATP into immunosuppressive adenosine. CD73 expresses on cancer cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, lymphocytes and myeloid cells. CD73 upregulated can be a result of tissue hypoxia,1 epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition,2 inflammation3 and/or cytotoxic stress.4 Also, increasing immune response may lead to faster viral clearance, shorter recovery time, less complications, longer immunity and protection from re-infection. Inhibiting CD73 was reported to evoke B cells activation and shows anti-fibrotic effects. The ability of enhancing immune response provides a potential opportunity to treat COVID-19. Thus, we investigated pharmacological activity of AK119 as an agent treating cancers, COVID-19 and fibrosis.MethodsAK119 inhibition of CD73 enzymatic activity was tested in human PBMCs based assay. The ability of AK119 to enhance B cells immune response was detected by cell-based assay. PBMCs were incubated overnight with APCP (inhibitor of CD73 enzyme acitvity) or AK119, CPI006 or MEDI9447. Flow cytometry analysis was performed with gating on B cells (CD19+CD3-) and MFI and positive percent were reported for antibody staining of CD69 or CD83, as well as HLA-DR and IgM. Enhancement of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody production was studied using human CD73 transgenic mouse immunized with SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The in-vivo activity of AK119 was further studied in bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis model in human CD73 transgenic mouse.ResultsAK119 shows a more potent antigen binding (figure 1) and completely CD73 enzyme inhibition activity (figure 2). AK119 promotes B cell proliferation, and upregulating CD69, CD83, HLA-DR and IgM that are markers of B cell activation (figure 3). B cell activation induced by AK119 is independent of adenosine. AK119 show significantly higher bioactivity to induce B cells activation in comparison with MEDI9447 or CPI006 (figure 4). In human CD73 transgenic mice, AK119 increased secretion of anti-S protein IgG (figure 5). In pulmonary fibrosis mouse model, number of inflammatory cell in broncholveolr lavage fluid of AK119 was significantly decreased, and decreased HYP representing collagen content in lung tissue homogenate of mice was found in both AK119 50 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg group (figure 6).ConclusionsAK119 selectively binds to and inhibits the ectonucleotidase activity of CD73 thus reducing adenosine accumulation. Results from non-clinical pharmacology studies reveal potent bioactivities as well as favorable safety properties of AK119. AK119 is intended for advanced solid tumors, pulmonary fibrosis and therapy of COVID-19.ReferencesBullen JW, Tchernyshyov I, Holewinski RJ, DeVine L, Wu F, Venkatraman V, Kass DL, Cole RN, Van Eyk J, Semenza GL, Protein kinase A-dependent phosphorylation stimulates the transcriptional activity of hypoxia-inducible factor 1. Résumé :
In this paper, the author seeks to explain the trajectories of local labor regime dynamics in Colombia’s coffee and banana industries from the post war developmental decades until the present. In order to explain these dynamics, the author first develops a neo-Gramscian ideal-typical schema to highlight the full range of labor regime dynamics emergent in Colombia, including “hegemonic,” “despotic,” and “crisis” regimes. The author then develops a theory of local labor regime types that draws from Giovanni Arrighi’s work on commodity chains. Finally, using comparative and world-historical methods, the author finds that the shifting trajectories of labor regimes in Colombia are affected by the nodal location of these regimes within their respective commodity chains.
