StichwörterInsecta, Coleoptera, Dytiscidae, Deronectes, Nebrioporus, Hygrotus, publishing date, authorship, priority.

SANBORN, ALLEN F. « The cicadas (Hemiptera : Cicadidae) of Panama including the description of six new species, three new combinations, one new synonymy, and nine new records ». Zootaxa 4493, no 1 (3 octobre 2018) : 1. http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.4493.1.1.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
The known cicada fauna of Panama is identified. Procollina quadrimaculata n. sp., P. stigmosa n. sp., Guyalna woldai n. sp., Herrera nigratorquata n. sp., H. sigillata n. sp. and Conibosa megalopercula n. sp. are described as new. Proarna germari Distant, 1905 n. syn. is shown to be a junior synonym of Proarna invaria (Walker, 1850). Pacarina championi (Distant, 1881) is returned to Proarna Stål, 1864 to become Proarna championi Distant, 1881 n. comb. again. The first records of Proarna invaria (Walker, 1850), Guyalna bogotana (Distant, 1892), Dorisiana cachla (Distant, 1899), Ollanta modesta (Distant, 1881), Pacarina schumanni Distant, 1905, Majeorona truncata Goding, 1925, Herrera lugubrina lugubrina (Stål, 1864), Calyria cuna (Walker, 1850), and Calyria telifera (Walker, 1858) are provided. The records for Ollanta modesta (Distant, 1881) are the first records of the genus Ollanta Distant, 1905 for Panama. The records for Calyria cuna (Walker, 1850), and Calyria telifera (Walker, 1858) are the first record of the genus Calyria Stål, 1862 and the Tribe Parnisini Distant, 1905 in Panama. Previous records of Dorisiana metcalfi Sanborn & Heath, 2014 (= Cicada viridis Olivier, 1790), Carineta fasciculata (Germar, 1830), and Selymbria stigmatica (Germar, 1834) are considered to be misidentifications of G. bogotana, C. maculosa (Torres, 1948), and S. pluvialis (Ramos & Wolda 1985) respectively so that D. metcalfi, C. fasciculata, and S. stigmatica are removed from the cicada fauna of Panama. The Panamanian record of Dorisiana semilata (Walker, 1850) is shown to be a mistake and the species is removed from the faunal list as well. The currently known Panamanian cicada fauna is comprised of 54 described species along with six species from the literature that remain undetermined from 22 genera, seven tribes and three subfamilies. Bergalna xanthospila (Germar, 1830) is reassigned to Dorisiana Metcalf, 1952 to become Dorisiana xanthospila (Germar, 1830) n. comb. Fidicinoides flavibasalis (Distant, 1905) is reassigned to Guyalna Boulard & Martinelli, 1996 to become Guyalna flavibasalis (Distant, 1905) n. comb.

Résumé :
AbstractPissodes approximatus Hopkins (1911) is a junior subjective synonym of P. nemorensis Germar (1824). The conspecificity of these entities, traditionally considered distinct based only on distribution and slight morphological differences, is corroborated here with comparative studies of ecology, behavior, and morphology. When pheromone-baited traps were deployed during the spring (May–June) and fall (November–December) in several localities to examine seasonal activity, southern populations (P. nemorensis sensu Hopkins) responded only in the fall and northern populations only in the spring, but a population in Virginia responded during both seasons. Laboratory studies found that individuals from five southern populations became reproductively mature under 16:8, 12:12, and 8:16 (L:D) photoperiods but weevils in a New York population did not mature under the 8:16 photoperiod. A two-species model based on strict seasonal isolation between northern and southern populations is rejected. Morphometrics revealed significant differences in six body dimensions and three morphometric ratios among 13 populations, but there was no geographic pattern of differences to suggest the existence of two species. Sexual dimorphism in rostrum length was most pronounced in southern populations but occurred in all five populations in which it was investigated. Examination of male and female genitalia revealed similar variation in northern and southern populations and conflicted with previously reported diagnostic differences. Our study and the results of earlier work lead us to conclude that the populations previously represented by the names P. nemorensis and P. approximatus comprise one widely distributed species and display intraspecific variation in life history and morphological characters.

The genus Scutellera Lamarck, 1801 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Scutelleridae: Scutellerinae: Scutellerini) is revised. Three species are recognized: Scutellera nepalensis (Westwood, 1837), with two subspecies, S. nepalensis nepalensis and S. nepalensis amethystina (Germar, 1839), stat. nov.; S. perplexa (Westwood, 1837); and S. spilogastra (Walker, 1867), comb. nov. (= S. brevirostris Breddin, 1909, syn. nov.). The included species are redescribed, illustrated, keyed, their bionomics and distribution are reviewed. Lectotypes are designated for Tectocoris nepalensis Westwood, 1837, Calliphara amethystina Germar, 1839, S. lanius Stål, 1854, and Callidea spilogastra Walker, 1867. Scutellera perplexa is recorded for the first time from Nepal, Vietnam and Laos. Scutellera holosericea Dohrn, 1863, is removed from Scutellera and transferred to Procilia Stål, [1865], resulting in a formal combination Procilia holosericea (Dohrn, 1863), comb. nov.; the species is potentially a junior subjective synonym of the Afrotropical P. morgani (White, 1839); its type locality, Java, is considered as erroneous.

Résumé :
In this work, the Chrysomelinae leaf beetle subgenus Calligrapha s. str. Chevrolat, 1836 is revised, offering redescriptions and keys for identification of twelve species currently considered in this group, allied to the South American species Calligrapha polyspila (Germar, 1821), the generic type of Calligrapha. The current species count results from important taxonomic changes. These include reversing a long-held synonymy, resurrecting the name Calligrapha mexicana Stål, 1859 stat. rev. for a species that is different from Chrysomela serpentina Rogers, 1856; upgrading the status of Polyspila serpentina var. discrepans Achard, 1923 to Calligrapha discrepans (Achard) stat. rev.; and formally proposing a number of new synonymies for several species, including: (1) Calligrapha discrepans (Achard) (= Calligrapha serpentina ssp. temaxensis Bechyné, 1952 syn. nov.); (2) Calligrapha fulvipes (Gistel, 1848) (= Calligrapha bajula Stål, 1860 syn. nov.; = Calligrapha nupta Stål, 1859 syn. nov.; = C. sponsa Stål, 1859 syn. nov.); and (3) Calligrapha polyspila (Germar) (= Polyspila polyspila var. bilineolata Achard, 1923 syn. nov.; = Polyspila polyspila var. plagata Achard, 1923 syn. nov.).

Citronella (Poaceae) essential oil and its components for the control of brasileirinho (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in vegetable cropsAbstract. The present study aimed to get an attractive formulation of oil-based citronella and its volatile components to capture Diabrotica speciosa (Germar). Three sequential experiments were performed in zucchini or cucumber crops. The insects were collected in PET bottle traps with three lateral apertures, containing a volume of 200 ml of each formulation, suspended 10 cm above the ground level in an experimental area of 30 m2. In the first experiment citronella essential oil was tested at 1, 2 and 4%. In the second experiment the action of citronellal, citronellol and geraniol at 1% were investigated. Furthermore, citronellol at 0.5, 1 and 2% has been tested in the third experiment. As a result it was observed that the formulation containing 0.5% citronellol was statistically higher than the other tested formulations. Other insects were captured by the traps as the beetles of Diabrotica viridula (Fabricius)and Astylus variegates (Germar), and also copies of Diptera, Hemiptera and Hymenoptera. Considering the high demand for organic food, and concern for the environment and health, the citronellol emulsion at 0.5% adequately fulfilled its goal, ensuring a good attractive capacity for D. speciosa. This formulation can be used simultaneously with other alternative methods to reduce the presence of such insects in crops.

Based on the data obtained by the authors in the last 10 years, provides information on the findings of 47 species from 4 families of weevils (Curculionoidea) in the forest zone of the East of the Russian Plain, which significantly expands the data on their distribution. Of these, 24 species are recorded for the first time for the fauna of the Kirov Province, 11 species - for the first time for the fauna of the Perm Krai, 3 species - for the first time for the fauna of Udmurtia. 5 species ( Ceutorhynchus varius Rey, 1895, Calosirus apicalis (Gyllenhal, 1827), Dorytomus tremulae (Fabricius, 1787), D. majalis (Paykull, 1792), Anthonomus pinivorax Silfverberg, 1977) were first recorded in the fauna of the Vyatka-Kama region, and Larinus obtusus Gyllenhal, 1836, Ceutorhynchus griseus Brisout de Barneville, 1869, C. sisymbrii (Dieckmann, 1966), Neophytobius quadrinodosus (Gyllenhal, 1813), Glocianus fennicus (Faust, 1895), Dorytomus hirtipennis Bedel, 1884 ), Curculio rubidus (Gyllenhal, 1836), Mecinus janthinus Germar, 1821, Tychius aureolus Kiesenwetter, 1851, and Hypera plantaginis (DeGeer, 1775)) were first found in the southern taiga subzone of the eastern Russian Plain. Ceutorhynchus hirtulus Germar, 1823 are excluded from the composition of the regional fauna of the Vyatka-Kama interfluve.

Résumé :
The objective of this study was to select native isolates of entomopathogenic fungi against adult Cosmopolites sordidus in laboratory conditions. Four isolates of Beauveria bassiana, two isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae, and two isolates of Paecilomyces lilacinus were tested against C. sordidus. The entomopathogenic fungi that resulted in mortality rates over 50% were M. anisopliae (MA-CsCha and MA-Carabid) and B. bassiana (BB-CsCha and BB-CsLp). The most virulent isolates were MA-CsCha, BB-CsCha, and MA-Carabid with median lethal times (LT50) of 4.82, 5.4, and 5.79 days, respectively. In conclusion, the MA-CsCha, BB-CsCha, MA-Carabid, and BB-CsLp isolates are viable candidates to be tested in banana fields.
