Texte intégralDespite intensive explorations by speleologists, karstic networks remain only partially described as many conduits are not accessible to humans. The classical exploration techniques produce sparse data subject to uncertainties concerning the conduit position and their dimensions, which are essential parameters for flow simulations.Stochastic simulations make it possible to better handle and assess these uncertainties by offering several equally probable karstic system representations. The ideal simulator should allow for the construction of tridimensional karstic drain networks, respecting the field observations (karstification markers), the knowledge brought by tracer tests, the information collected in the accessible parts of the network and those obtained by the study of other networks. In this context, this PhD thesis offers 3 main contributions. The first contribution is the statistical analysis of a database of 49 karstic networks. It focuses on the study of conduit geometry, through the analysis of two metrics : the equivalent radius and the width-height ratio. No generic statistical law describing the network geometry was found.Nonetheless, the spatial variability of the geometrical properties at different scales was characterized, mostly through the development of 1D-curvilinear variograms. The widespread hypothesis of a hierarchical organization of the conduit geometries has also been analysed and rejected. The second contribution is the development of two methods allowing stochastic simulations of properties along karstic networks and based on the results of the statistical analysis. The first method focuses on the reproduction of the property variability at the network scale, while the second one focuses on the reproduction of the variability within and between the network branches. Both are based on the Sequential Gaussian Simulation methods and are adapted to 1D-curvilinear objects. The third contribution is the prototype of a method aiming to stochastically simulate discrete karstic networks as graphs (known as network skeletons}). We hope that once completed, it would allow the simulation of different network types, while taking directly into account field data and geological information. It is divided in three main steps : i) the generation of a point cloud, ii) the computation of the point connectivity and iii) their connection to create the skeleton of the karstic network. These contributions open new prospects regarding the simulation of karstic drain networks usable for flow simulation (e.g., SWMM, Epanet, Modflow-CFP), which should allow a better characterization of the associated flows

Texte intégralThis PhD work concerns the study of hybrid air extractors. It is composed of upstream and applied investigations. In the upstream part, fine simulations are realized in square duct flow with and without rotation to analyse the impact of rotation on turbulence. It is found that rotation removes symmetry property of the flow with turbulent Reynolds number of 600. The applied part is dedicated to the conception of a new air extractor geometry. This geometry is proposed from the analyse of RANS simulations. Its performances are confirmed by experimental measurements on test rig. Wind tunnel tests of a wind power capturing system, designed for the extractor, show a good adequation to the operating regime of the extractor. Experimental investigations on the complete air extractor, show the wind power capturing system brings a significant part of the energy. Wind tunnel tests allow to observe the complete air extractor behaviour

Texte intégralDriving the car in hazard conditions, like an environment with a lot of dust, is a case which is encountered often by the drivers. The wiper blades have to work successfully and clean the dirty windshield for both the safety of the passengers and the functionality of the car. Activating the car nozzle jets, washer is ejected from the nozzles towards the wiper blades and the windshield. A thin layer of liquid is developed on the surfaces of the wiper blades. When the nozzle jets stop and the wiper blades continue to move, the thin layer of liquid interacts with the strong external air flow field. The result of the interaction is the generation of droplets which are transported by the air flow far from the wiper blades. However, a part of those droplets impact on the windshield resulting in an insufficient cleaning of the screen and the deterioration of the driver’s sight. The wiper blades may remove the dust from the screen but they will cause the droplet impact on it. The phenomenon of the air-liquid interaction on the wiper blades involving the droplet generation, transport and impact on the screen is known as Overspray in the automotive domain. The Overspray is an important parameter for the design and development of the wiper blades. Although Overspray has been observed quite early, little is known for the mechanisms involved in. Thus, the wiper blades still suffer to clean the windshield adequately in such conditions. The current thesis aims to give a deep insight in the Overspray focusing more on the air-liquid interactions for the droplet generation, especially, the investigation of the critical conditions for the onset of the film atomization from the blade surfaces. For that reason mainly experimental and theoretical work has been conducted
