Résumé :
Experimental studies in rodents and humans show that the neuropeptides oxytocin and vasopressin are important regulators of behaviors related to social interactions. Evidence for positive effects of oxytocin treatment on symptoms of psychiatric disorders characterized by impaired social functioning has emerged. Numerous studies report associations between various social behaviors, the risk of autism, and polymorphisms inOXTRandAVPR1A. This chapter provides an overview of these genetic association studies. Although many of the published findings are inconclusive and need replication in independent samples, the chapter concludes that variants ofOXTRandAVPR1Aseem to moderate individual variation in different aspects of social behavior. The challenges for future studies include replication of current findings, identification of the functional variants, and characterization of the neural mechanisms mediating the gene-behavior associations, as well as exploration of the pharmacogenetic potential ofOXTRandAVPR1Ain future clinical trials.

Résumé :
In recent years, the characterization of the neurobiology of migraine and other headache disorders has been driven by the search to better understand several key factors: genetics, the role of neuromodulators such as calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), processes including central and peripheral sensitization, neurogenic inflammation, central pain networks, and areas of activation demonstrated by advancing functional neuroimaging techniques. Yet the ultimate causes of migraine remain unknown. Nonetheless, recent work has advanced our understanding of this complex disorder, and pointed toward a future where these modalities may provide an integrated understanding of its pathophysiology and provide specific treatment targets.

Résumé :
The paroxysmal dyskinesias are a heterogeneous group of rare movement disorders, characterized by the abrupt onset of involuntary hyperkinetic movements with or without trigger factors and of variable duration. Interictal periods are marked by relative normality, although there is evidence for an association between some genotypes and migraine, episodic ataxia, and seizure disorders. Three genes have been identified that are associated with the three most common syndromes; however, these do not account for some cases with an otherwise typical history. The clinical phenotype continues to evolve with increasing characterization of genetically proven cases. Paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia responds well to carbamazepine therapy.

Barr, David L. Narrative Technique in the Book of Revelation. Sous la direction de Danna Nolan Fewell. Oxford University Press, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199967728.013.32.

Résumé :
The book of Revelation is neither a guide to the end of the world nor a handbook of theology. It is a narrative in which John recounts what happened to him on Patmos, describes what he saw and heard when he ascended into the sky/heaven, and recounts the cosmic conflict between the forces of good and evil—an ultimate Holy War. It is thus a complicated narrative, recounting both John’s actions (what happened to him) and the actions he recounts in the stories he tells (what he saw and heard). He functions as both the narrator and as a character in the story. This article explores various techniques used to tell the story, including its genre, structure and plot, temporal and spatial distortions, narrative performance and characterizations, and narrative rhetoric.
