Dube, Bekithemba. « Is Gabola a Decolonial Church or Another Trajectory of Freedom of Religion in Post-Colonial South Africa ? Rethinking Ethical Issues in Religious Praxis ». Religions 10, no 3 (7 mars 2019) : 167. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/rel10030167.

Résumé :
In this paper, I interrogated the Gabola church in terms of its origins, purpose and its distinctiveness as a postcolonial manifestation of freedom of religion in South Africa. I answered two questions, is Gabola church a representation of a decolonial church and could it be a manifestation of trajectories of the postcolonial ill-defined freedom of religion? In responding to these questions, I used decoloniality, a theory whose agenda among many others is geared to usher a future free from oppression, where all can participate in modernity and in postmodernity. Data was generated through participatory action research. The approach enabled us to unearth the theology of Gabola, philosophy and the gap they seek to fill in the religious space. Ten Gabola church members and five church members from a mainline Christian movement participated in this research. The findings indicated that Gabola church presents a new religious movement that is socially inclusive, that seeks to promote social justice and social transformation. On the other hand, the research revealed that the lack of a regulating body for religious movement is the reason for the rise of questionable movements such as Gabola, a serious threat in the praxis of the Christian faith. To this end, I concluded that while freedom of religion is a good idea in line with the decolonial move, there is a need for participative and collaborative regulation of religious movement to eliminate criminal elements that overshadowed the beauty of religion manifested through ‘unthinkable’ ethical irregularities.

Résumé :
The effect of attention on the detection and identification of vertically and horizontally oriented Gabor patterns in the condition of simultaneous masking with obliquely oriented Gabors was studied. Attention was manipulated by varying the set size in a visual-search experiment. In the first experiment, small target Gabors were presented on the background of larger masking Gabors. In the detection task, the effect of set size was as predicted by unlimited-capacity signal detection theory. In the orientation identification task, increasing the set size from 1 to 8 resulted in a much larger decline in performance. The results of the additional experiments suggest that attention can reduce the crowding effect of maskers.

Résumé :
The Gabori Roma of Transylvania present themselves and are perceived as a “traditional Roma community” claiming to be highly endogamous. For these Roma, as for others, marriage constitutes the “crucial point” of their society, to borrow Patrick Williams’ phrase: marriage validates, publicly embodies, and reproduces belonging to the group. This article focuses on how Gabori marriage practices accommodate two essentially dissonant sets of values: on the one hand, the brotherly utopia that proclaims absolute equality among Roma, and, on the other, the ideology of descent that describes a “Gabori nation” structured along noble ranks. The two repertoires variously materialize, clash, or mix within the realm of marriage, revealing how Roma society never ceases to develop in complex and dynamic ways.

Résumé :
When humans view a moving object, the spatial lag in perception expected from neural delays may be partially corrected by motion mechanisms biasing perceived position. The drifting-Gabor illusion seems to support this view: the perceived location of a static envelope filled with a moving pattern is shifted in the direction of motion. To test whether this shifting mechanism also extrapolates the position of moving displacing objects, we compared the perceptual position shift for drifting versus displacing Gabors when the motion is toward the fovea and when the motion is away from the fovea. For displacing Gabors, the shift was much greater for motion toward the fovea, whereas for drifting Gabors, the shift was greater for motion away from the fovea. This dissociation suggests that the illusions are caused by different mechanisms.

Résumé :
The political activity of Juozas Gabrys at the League of Nations in Geneva from 1927 to 1939 is the main subject of this article. He and his colleagues established Lithuanian Information Bureau here in the 1930s and worked as journalists. Gabrys also sought to gain a position as a Lithuanian diplomat and the best possibility for that was the post of an ambassador to the League of Nations in Geneva. He thought that his mission was to propagate Lithuanian interests in Western Europe, and the fact that he had started this activity before World War I, should have granted a good and prosperous life for himself as well. Unfortunately, good intentions not always were embodied in the fruitful results. As for the image of the Lithuanian activity in Geneva, not all of Gabrys’ actions succeeded in a positive way. Of course, at the surroundings of the League, Lithuania was seen and heard not only from Gabrys’ publications, but also from official Lithuanian information agencies and legislations. But maybe his irony and accusations worked as stimulator for other Lithuanian journalists and politicians? And maybe his true role at the scene of diplomacy was not to make the decisions, but to take into account every decision made and explain it to the society of Lithuania and Geneva.

Il s’agit donc d’une progression, d’un développement continu du français parlé au Gabon. La variation engendre la cohésion à une langue et sa cohérence. Variation of French spoken in Gabon: transgression or progress? Abstract: By the prism of the variation and the appropriation, the transgression of the linguistic standards prescribed in the traditional grammars made by French spoken to the Gabon, becomes a generalized and linguistic process of an identity and social construction. It is thus about a progress, about a continuous development of French spoken to the Gabon. The variation engenders the cohesion in a language and its coherence.

Résumé :
The elastic modulus of two varieties of Iranian pumpkin seed and its kernel (namely, Zaria and Gaboor) were evaluated as a function of size (large, medium, and small), loading rate (2, 5, 8, and 10 mm/min), and moisture content (4, 7.8, 14, and 20% d.b) under quasistatic compression loading. The results showed that elastic modulus of pumpkin seed and its kernel decreased with increasing moisture content and also increasing loading rate, for the varieties under study. The average modulus of elasticity of pumpkin seed from 68.86 to 46.65 Mpa and from 97.14 to 74.93 Mpa was obtained for moisture levels ranging from 4 to 20%, for Zaria and Gaboor varieties, respectively. The elastic modulus of pumpkin seed decreased from 73.55 to 43.04 Mpa and from 101.83 to 71.32 Mpa with increasing loading rate from 2 to 10 mm/min for Zaria and Gaboor varieties, respectively.

Résumé :
Background and aims – Podostemaceae is a family of strictly aquatic plants found in rapids and waterfalls. Despite a recent treatment in the Flore du Gabon, the family remained poorly known, with no major studies including Gabonese collections, and almost no targeted inventories since 1966. We present the first large-scale inventory of this family in Gabon, targeting Podostemaceae throughout the country, providing new additions to the flora of Gabon and many new records of poorly known species. Material and methods – Fieldwork was conducted in Gabon between 2017 and 2021. The collected specimens were primarily preserved in ethanol with associated silica gel-preserved material and photographs. Material available at BR, BRLU, LBV, MO, P, WAG, and Z/ZT was examined. For each species, information on distribution and ecology is presented, as well as a distribution map in Gabon. Key results – The 500 newly collected specimens represent 91.4% of all known collections of Podostemaceae from Gabon. Three taxa are newly recorded for the country, including one genus (Inversodicraea tenax, Ledermanniella schlechteri, and Saxicolella nana). New distribution records are also presented for 13 little-known species. Four taxa are excluded from the Gabonese flora (the genus Dicraeanthus, Inversodicraea ledermannii, Ledermanniella sanagaensis, and Macropodiella garrettii). To date, 20 species belonging to five different genera are known to occur in Gabon. A new combination is proposed for Ledermanniella nicolasii, and Inversodicraea tanzaniensis is now considered as a synonym of Inversodicraea tenax.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Objective: To measure the effects of first- and second-order gable bends on the forces and moments produced by a commercially available closing T-loop archwire. Materials and Methods: A dentoform-simulated space closure case was mounted on an orthodontic force tester. Sixteen gable bend combinations were placed in the archwires, which were then activated using standard clinical procedures. At each activation, the three force components and three moment components on the maxillary left lateral incisor and canine were simultaneously measured. Results: The first- and second-order gable bends showed low load coupling effects when used independently, but the load systems became unpredictable when bends were combined. Gable bends affect the magnitudes and directions of the forces and moments that are applied to teeth. The resulting moment to force ratios are sensitive to the bends. Conclusion: Gable bends alter the orthodontic load systems; however, the three-dimensional interactions produce complex and unpredictable tradeoffs.

Résumé :
Abstract. In this study, the effect of earthquake loads on roof gable walls and the behaviours of these roof gable walls are investigated. In preparation of the study, two experiments on cradle roof system which gets and does not get any loads off the roof members were carried out in all. The experiments were performed on the shaking table in Earthquake Research Department of General Directorate of Disaster Affairs. Through the experiments, some considerable results were obtained on the behaviours of roof gable walls under the effect of horizontal dynamic loads. The results obtained at the end of these examinations are given and discussed. Furthermore, suggestions to make the brick gable walls more reliable against the loads of earthquake are given. When the results of the experiments were generally taken into consideration, it was realized that the gable walls in both roof systems would partly or completely collapse even under the effect of a little horizontal dynamic load.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Objectives: To evaluate, using the finite element method (FEM), the factors that allow control of the anterior teeth during en masse retraction with the Biocreative hybrid retractor (CH-retractor) using different sizes of nickel-titanium (NiTi) archwires and various gable bends on the stainless-steel (SS) archwires. Materials and Methods: Using FEM, the anterior archwire section, engaged on the anterior dentition, was modeled in NiTi, and another assembly, the posterior guiding archwire, was modeled in SS. Two dimensions (0.016 × 0.022- and 0.017 × 0.025-inch NiTi) of the anterior archwires and different degrees (0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, and 60°) of the gable bends on the guiding wire were applied to the CH-retractor on the anterior segment to evaluate torque and intrusion with 100-g retraction force to TSADs. Finite element analysis permitted sophisticated analysis of anterior tooth displacement. Results: With a 0° gable bend all anterior teeth experienced extrusion. The canines showed a larger amount of extrusion than did the central and lateral incisors. With a gable bend of >15°, all anterior teeth exhibited intrusion. Bodily movement of the central incisor required a 30°∼45° gable bend when using anterior segments of 0.016 × 0.022-inch NiTi and 15°∼30° gable bend with the 0.017 × 0.025-inch NiTi. Conclusions: With the CH-retractor, varying the size of the NiTi archwire and/or varying the amount of gable bend on the SS archwire affects control of the anterior teeth during en masse retraction without a posterior appliance.

W pracy podjęto zagadnienie dwuaspektowości poznania uwzględniające wymiary czasu i przestrzeni.

W nowelach ze zbioru Про що думає людина pojawiają się cechy impresjonizmu łączące W. Gabora z M. Kociubynskim. Jednocześnie można wyróżnić w powyższym tomie główne cechy współczesnej noweli modyfikowanej, gdy działania wewnętrzne bohaterów wychodzą na plan pierwszy, podobnie jak pogłębiona asocjatywność, metaforyczność, wyobrażenia. Ponadto w stylu W. Gabora można wyróżnić zarówno elementy realistyczne, jak i romantyczne, których połączenie stanowi podstawę fantastycznego realizmu pisarza (nowela Поминки).

Résumé :
The activity of Juozas Gabrys and his colleagues at the League of Nations in Geneva from 1927 until 1939 is the main subject of this article. The questions about this group of people are analyzed through several perspectives, such as journalism, business, and politics. The territorial and ethnical problems which were addressed by Lithuania at the League of Nations and the decisions of Lithuanian diplomats and politicians were overviewed in the press publications of Gabrys in various Lithuanian newspapers. In these texts he mostly focuses on two main topics in international interwar Lithuanian politics – the question of Vilnius its regarding mutual relations with Poland and the question of Memel and its region, which was intensely disputed by Lithuanian and German influences. Simultaneously, Gabrys had the intentions to develop business relations between Lithuania and Switzerland. He and his family worked in the fields of real estate and money exchange. Also, he established the Lithuanian Information Bureau in Geneva, which received irregular donations from the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, yet most of the publications were funded by Gabrys himself. The answer to the question of Gabrys’s real influence on Lithuanian foreign policy could be given only partially. As for now, the possibility to measure this influence is limited only to the press and information field, as Gabrys’s work in those fields, although forgotten and underestimated nowadays, was observed and evaluated by his contemporaries. Due to his publications, Lithuanians could form an opinion about the League of Nations and its decisions as well as the situation on the level of European policy.

Résumé :
Gabon is located in the malaria hyper-endemic zone, where data concerning malaria vector distribution remains fragmentary, making it difficult to implement an effective vector control strategy. Thus, it becomes crucial and urgent to undertake entomological surveys that will allow a better mapping of the Anopheles species present in Gabon. In this review, we examined different articles dealing with Anopheles in Gabon from ProQuest, Web of Science, PubMed, and Google scholar databases. After applying the eligibility criteria to 7543 articles collected from four databases, 42 studies were included that covered a 91-year period of study. The review revealed a wide diversity of Anopheles species in Gabon with a heterogeneous distribution. Indeed, our review revealed the presence of 41 Anopheles species, of which the most abundant were members of the Gambiae and Nili complexes and those of the Funestus and Moucheti groups. However, our review also revealed that the major and minor vectors of malaria in Gabon are present in both sylvatic, rural, and urban environments. The observation of human malaria vectors in sylvatic environments raises the question of the role that the sylvatic environment may play in maintaining malaria transmission in rural and urban areas. Ultimately, it appears that knowledge of biodiversity and spatial distribution of Anopheles mosquitoes is fragmentary in Gabon, suggesting that additional studies are necessary to complete and update these entomological data, which are useful for the implementation of vector control strategies.

Résumé :
Prudent macroeconomic policies, supported by the Extended Arrangement, have contributed to Gabon’s economic recovery. Growth is picking up, the fiscal and external positions have improved, public debt has started to decline, and Gabon has contributed to the rebuilding of regional international reserves. Challenges remain, though, as buffers are still insufficient and deep-rooted institutional and structural weaknesses continue to constraint growth and poverty reduction. Almost one-third of the population still lives below the poverty line.

Résumé :
The COVID-19 pandemic and concurrent collapse in oil prices are expected to put the economy under extreme stress, particularly in a context of limited buffers. Economic growth will slow, and the fiscal and external positions will weaken, creating significant additional financing needs in 2020.

Résumé :
The development of infrastructure is one of the pillars of the Emerging Gabon Strategic Plan (PSGE). Implemented as of 2012, the PSGE has been establishing priority strategic guidelines to transform Gabon into an emerging economy by 2025. Its primary aims are to ensure and expedite the country’s sustainable development and growth by focusing on potential growth sectors. Public investment grew continuously from 2009 to 2013, when it peaked at 15.2 percent of GDP; it averaged 5.7 percent growth from 1990 to 2018. At the same time, private investment declined, as did growth and public capital stock. These outcomes indicate that public investment in Gabon does not drive growth and that investment expenditure does not automatically translate into actual accumulation of assets, which raises questions about the efficiency of those outlays.

Résumé :
Since the approval of the first RFI request on April 9, 2020 (IMF Country Report No 20/109), weaker external demand and a more pronounced impact of containment measures have further deteriorated growth prospects and worsened external and fiscal positions. The authorities are requesting a purchase under the Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI) of 50 percent of quota (SDR 108 million) to be used as budget support to help address urgent balance of payment (BoP) needs and mitigate the risk of disorderly fiscal or BoP adjustment. This additional request will bring the total purchases under the RFI to 100 percent of quota in 2020.

Résumé :
While external buffers are being rebuilt, the CEMAC’s recovery remains fragile. In Gabon, macroeconomic conditions are slowly improving. Activity is stabilizing, with 2017 growth revised to 0.5 percent—a slowdown broadly in line with trends envisaged at the time of the program request a year ago. Oil and mining exports helped narrow the 2017 current account deficit. The overall fiscal deficit (cash basis) declined by 3¼ percent of GDP, but the adjustment relied on large cuts in public investment. Weak program implementation contributed to the underperformance of non-oil revenues and overruns on current spending. Fiscal slippages aggravated already significant cashflow pressures, contributing to the authorities’ failure to clear all external arrears at end 2017. The authorities recently announced a strong package of fiscal consolidation measures.
