We don't need paleontological perspective to regard 30 years as a short time. Many in this audience, and several speakers in this symposium (but not yours truly, who was busy celebrating the Yankees' unprecedented fifth consecutive world series victory and wondering how a 12-year old boy could turn into a paleontologist), were already practicing our profession when the Paleontological Society marked the beginning of its great Treatise project with a symposium at the 1953 G.S.A. meeting on the status of our field (Kummel, 1954).

Schmid; 1786) e “dicionários enciclopédicos” (G.S.A.

Abstract Structure collapse, on the other hand, is a very complicated phenomenon involving considerable nonlinearity and a variety of mechanical interactions. It should be thoroughly examined through experiments and numerical simulations to prevent the occurrence from occurring. When initial local failure of a small portion of the structure takes place it leads to the spread of that local damage to neighbor elements in the chain reaction manner. Finally, collapse takes place. This is known as Progressive collapse. This progressive collapse takes place when vertical load carrying members such as columns failed due to manmade or natural accidental loads. Therefore in this study progressive collapse analysis of a building is carried by removing columns. In the analysis different column removal cases are considered. As per GSA guidelines, Demand Capacity ratio(DCR) of beams are calculated. From this DCR value Evaluate the stability of the structure against progressive collapse. In the present study “T”shape building is considered which consists of 11 storey with bay sizes as 4 meter in the X and Y direction, height of every storey is 3 meters and height from the plinth to the floor is assumed 3.5 meters. The measurements of the beams are fixed throughout the storey, but column dimensions decrease as the floor rises, therefore the structure is considered to have geometrical irregularity. The loading is calculated in accordance with G.S.A guidelines. The design was created using the ETABS software and the I.S 456-2000 code. Different parameters such as Demand-capacity ratio, Dynamic factor, Interaction ratio, Axial Force, Bending moment are discussed.

Résumé :
This study aims to provide information on the engineering characteristics of laterite soil, which is frequently used as a building material in civil engineering projects. The significance of subsoil investigations has grown significantly in light of the recent trend of civil construction collapses. In non-industrial nations like Nigeria, minimal residual soil has long been a problem for civil infrastructure, including buildings, culverts, dams, and highways. Also, there has been a lot of global research into using lateritic soil for engineering reasons due to the rising costs of conventional stabilizing agents and the need to utilize industrial and agricultural waste in cost- effective ways for engineering applications. As implied by the research project's topic, this is accomplished through a comprehensive field inquiry and intensive laboratory testing (the effect of groundnut shell ash on lateritic soil properties). The index property test categorized the soil into the A-2-4 subgroup in accordance with the AASHTO standard. As a result, the substance is deemed unfit for use as a foundation or sub-base for paving roads. Tests on the soil's index and geotechnical characteristics after adding groundnut shell ash show significant changes in the parameters. The tests performed for this study adhered to BS 1377:1975 standards. An analysis of the data shows that GSA can be used as a binding agent in the absence of cement, even if it does not have the same binding strength as cement. 4% G.S.A. was also discovered to be the optimal content concentration. All tests and analyses are shown in chapters three and four.

Résumé :
One of the causes of low oil palm production is the presence of weeds, so weed control efforts are needed. One of the weed control methods is chemical weed control using herbicides. Methyl metsulfuron herbicide is one of the active ingredients of herbicides. The aim of this study was to obtain the optimal dose of methyl metsulfuron to control wire fern weed (Dicranopteris linearis) in immature oil palm plantations. The method used was a randomized block design (RAK) with 8 levels of treatment, namely A (methyl metsulfuron 15 g.b.a/ha), B (methyl metsulfuron 50 g.b.a/ha), C (methyl metsulfuron 85 g.b.a/ha), D (methyl metsulfuron 15). g.b.a/ha + adhesive), E (methyl metsulfuron 50 g.b.a/ha+ adhesive), F (methyl metsulfuron 85 g.b.a/ha+ adhesive), G (manual weeding), H (without control and herbicide). All treatments were replicated 3 times. Parameters observed were weed mortality, weed dry weight and phytotoxicity. Data analysis used linear model variance with a significance of 5%, if there was a significant difference, it was continued with the Ducan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) further test. The results showed that the mortality of Dicranopteris linearis weeds with the herbicide methyl metsulfuron 85 g.b.a/ha was significantly different from the treatment with methyl metsulfuron 15-50 g.b.a/ha. Weed dry weight with the herbicide methyl metsulfuron 15-85 g.b.a/ha and manual control was significantly different from that without control. Weed control with methyl metsulfuron herbicide does not cause phytotoxicity.

Résumé :
Through a Critical Race Theory (CRT) framework, this article explores the experiences of students who are most typically overlooked within the college access discourse—those individuals who are considered “non-high performing” and/or “non-college bound.” Employing data from a longitudinal qualitative study, counter-narratives are used to highlight how Raheem and Brianna, two non-high performing African American students, experience the high school-to-college transition process. Over the course of three years, they reveal a combination of personal challenges, institutional shortcomings, and other trials that influence how they finally come to navigate their experiences within school, as well as their decisions about and actions towards achieving their postsecondary goals. Their narratives, while unique in their own right, highlight many aspects and obstacles that are all too common amongst this population of students; however, they also highlight an often more forgotten story—that is, the complexities of how these students attempt to find ways in which to handle their circumstances and proceed towards their future.

Os tratamentos principais foram constituídos pelos herbicidas: 1.Testemunha; 2.Imazaquin PPI -120 g.i.a./ha; 3.Imazaquin PPI - 240 g.i.a./ha; 4.Imazethapyr PRE - 80 g.i.a./ha e 5.Imazethapyr PRE - 160 g.i.a./ha.

This research, inscribed in the theory of architectural design, focuses on a contemporary phenomenon situated on the border between architecture and urbanism: the Abandoned Large Structure (ALS). This notion brings the attention to large and heterogeneous built environments that have been abandoned for more than a decade. The thesis questions the possibilities for a categorization of Abandoned Large Structures, both as a disciplinary problem (categorization as a framework of knowledge) and as a practical issue (categorization as a framework for intervention). This is explored in two phases. First, the phenomenon of Abandoned Large Structures is defined via inventory, description, and classification. Second, faced with the limits presented by conventional classification frameworks in architecture, the thesis shifts the analysis from a classification of what the ALS is (properties) to what the ALS does or can do (potential capacities). Based on a corpus of 103 structures, this research first describes the ALS using properties inherited from the original project of the ALS (the primary meaning), properties brought by the abandonment (loss of meaning), and properties attached to contemporary projections surrounding the ALS (renewal of meaning). These descriptions feed into the joint analysis of the resistance and resources of the ALS (physical, pragmatic and epistemological). The notion of ‘Resistances-Resources’ is then no longer apprehended in a binary opposition, but as a « twin phenomenon » (Van Eyck, 1960). Taking into account this dialectic allows us to anticipate the future of 72 of the 103 ALS studied. Five conventional reclassification territories are thus identified: demolition, rehabilitation, heritage conservation, tourism, and ruin. However, they do not cover the whole spectrum of ALS. 31 ALS are left in a zone of classificatory indeterminacy, resistant to convergent modes of anticipation. What, among these structures, escape the conventional modes of knowledge and intervention in architecture? To answer that question, the hypothesis of the ALS as a liminal phenomenon (Van Gennep, 1909) is then explored, focusing on the characters that feed the in-between condition of these structures: incompleteness, constructive ambiguity, mythical dimension, conflicting scenarios, and informal dynamics. This shows not only the limits presented by the functional, formal, and stylistic filters conventionally used in architecture, but furthermore opens the research to more flexible interpretative modes of arrangement. Finally, the thesis moves from the properties to the potential of the ALS. The many scenarios revolving around the ALS here serve as analytical material to access these potentials. An in-situ case study conducted in one of the ALS (El Elefante Blanco, Buenos Aires) serves as a guide for a survey of the ALS’ categories of potential. Five categories are extracted: 1. Material deposit, 2. Increased epidermis, 3. Megastructure 2.0, 4. Rhizome and 5. Anti-monument, to which respond specific design strategies. These categories place the ALS at the intersection of constructive, ecological, social and political challenges.

Résumé :
Industrialization and urbanization have polluted available land, and most agricultural land has recently been converted to development sites. When exposed to changes in water concentrations, a large section of agricultural land has expansive soil with significant inflammation and shrinkage properties. The procedure of treating or replacing soil with a suitable and effective substance to improve its mechanical qualities for building is known as soil stabilization. Valorization of waste from groundnut mills and onion peel waste in improving soil properties used for building and construction projects are cost-effective and economically feasible waste management methods. Other studies have found that using groundnut shell ash (G.S.A.) and onion peel powder (O.P.P.) on clay is beneficial. As a result, the purpose of this research is to examine the qualities of clayey soils containing varied percentages of G.S.A. and O.P.P. The atterberg limits-plastic limit, liquid limit, plasticity index, California bearing ratio, shear strength, and moisture content tests were used to evaluate the efficacy of G.S.A. and O.P.P. in improving soil parameters. Improved soil efficiency and geotechnical qualities have also been emphasized for long-term use in various commercial activities. With the addition of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% of G.S.A and 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% of O.P.P., Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS), Plastic Limit, Compaction, Liquid Limit, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR), significantly increase till certain limit.

A Survey of Concerned Concept with G.R.A (Group-Recreation-Activity) For Elementary School Teachers in Tao-Yuan County Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the concerned concept of Group-Recreation-Activity ( G.R.A.), further to investigate how the elementary school teachers in Tao-Yuan county understand the current status and related problem of the concerned concept with G.R.A. Such an investigation can serve as a basis for providing suggestions for reference for related departments and personnel. In order to achieve the above objective, the study used a method of literature analysis and the specialist’s questionnaire survey and interview. Gathered information from Taiwan and abroad about the related research of G.R.A. Then I analyzed the G.R.A.’s meaning, goal, classification and the development of G.R.A’s history in Taiwan. Through the questionnaire survey I learned about Tao-Yuan’s elementary school teachers’ general viewpoints and ideas about the concerned concept of G.R.A. The questionnaire survey with specialists in this study was done with 36 famous senior specialists. 18 specialists were given the actual response. The response rate was 50%. Furthermore, 5 famous senior specialists were interviewed. Finally, the study includes 268 elementary school teachers in Tao-Yuan county responses another questionnaire. The response rate was 95.99% ( 263from268 ). The major procedures for gathering data were interviews and questionnaires. The information from the questionnaires and interviews were concluded with summarization and done with core coding. For quantitative analysis, descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage and mean, inferential statistics including analysis of variance, t test, Scheffe’s test and chi-square analysis were the major statistical procedures. As the result of the comprehensive literature analysis, interviews and questionnaires, regarding the concerned concept of group-recreation, the study obtained its meanings, goals, classifications and development of history in Taiwan. G stands for group. R stands for healthy, happiness and fun. Group recreation can be defined as the concerned concept that involved in the G.R.A. Its purpose is to achieve the ideal of spreading the seed of happiness to the world, bringing the vitality of the youth to people, letting our society full of happiness and keeping our nation young always. The classifications of group recreation including playing, singing, dancing, acting song, drama, shouting with clapping, activity designing, speaking show and leisure activities. According to the sequence of the years, starting from 1949 to 2001, the development of group recreation’s history in Taiwan was collected and filed in order as a record. Moreover, it was indicated as the literature source and has become a great event. Through the result of the analysis of questionnaires, the study got the conclusions regarding the concerned concept with G.R.A. for elementary school teachers in Tao-Yuan county as the follows: 1. Students’ group-recreation-activity Currently, on the campus of the elementary schools, the group activity that students taking part in mostly is singing. It’s not often to see group activities such as playing, dancing and boy scouting. Drama is rather rare. Besides, the result of the investigation represents that more than half of the schools had had the experiences of this kind of activities this year. 2. The use of teachers’ group-recreation-activity As the result of investigation, “ Special activity for celebrating festivals and national holidays”, “ The activity of sports competition, tournament and garden party”, “ Newcomers welcome party” are very suitable for teachers to run in the school’s activity. The most suitable field for teachers to teach in the group-recreation are “ Art and humane learning fields”, “ Overall activity’s learning field”. The group-recreation-activity is the most helpful for teachers to teach lively and enhance the effective of learning when applying on “ Singing”, “ Playing”, “ Dancing” and “ Activity song”. The most suitable organizations which conduct group-recreation’s seminar for teachers are “ The bureau of education in each county and city”, “ The headquarters of a team of China Youth Corps.”, and the seminar’s suitable time are “ Every Wednesday’s afternoon on-the-job advanced studies─recreation and student counseling seminar ( 3 hours)”, and “ recreation and seminar’s camp for teachers in each county and city ( 1 week). 3. The investigation of concerned concept with G.R.A for teachers: (1) For the investigation of the concerned concept of group recreation’s meanings and goals, in general they were accepted be the testers. It represents that most of the teachers generally agreed with that. (2) For the investigation of the concerned concept with group recreation’s singing, playing, dancing, acting song, shouting with clapping and activity designing for teachers, in general they were accepted by the testers. (3) For the survey of the level of qualification of leading group-recreation-activity for teachers, the testers said that they are qualified of leading the group-recreation-activity such as singing, playing, acting song, drama and shouting with clapping. (4) The survey of the willingness of combining the group-recreation-activity with the teaching activity, in general the testers are happy to put the G.R.A into teaching activity. (5) For the investigation of the concerned concept with group recreation’s singing, playing, dancing, acting song, shouting with clapping and activity designing, the need of teachers’ seminar activity, in general the testers think it is necessary. According to the result and conclusion of the research, the study finally separately brings up some suggestions to the elementary school teachers in Tao-Yuan, the relative authorities of the Education Administration, the relative organization of non-governmental circles and the follow-up studies. Key words: Group-Recreation, G.R.A(Group-Recreation-Activity), Singing, Playing, Dancing, Acting song, Drama, Shouting with clapping, Activity designing, Speaking show, Leisure activities.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of learning dilation、scale and relative concepts base on operating G.S.P. and concrete objects teaching methods. Quasi - experimental method with nonequivalent pretest-posttest controls is adopted. The subjects in this study are from two classes with a total of 66 students.Quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis are emphasized in this study. Some main findings are showed as follows: 1.Informal knowledge According to the result of the pretest and interview, it shows that there are some misconcepts in angle、length、area、constructing graphs、scale and ratio sense in the situations of enlargement and shrink. They often come from intuition、the meaning of words and teaching. 2.The effect of learning for students There are two significant learning effects for treatment group and control group:immediate effect (posttest vs pretest) and reserved effect(follow-up test vs pretest),but no significant retained effects (follow-up test vs posttest) for both groups. After excluding pretest, there is no significant difference in posttest and follow-up test for two groups. After excluding pretest, there is a significant difference in posttest for the girls and the low achievement students in treatment group and in control group. After excluding pretest, there is an significant interaction between gender and group in the follow-up test. The performance of the girls in the treatment group is better than that of the girls in the control group in follow-up test. 3.The performance of conceptual change Generally, the treatment group and the control group had positive conceptual change, but there still has some misconcepts hard to let students change in a short period, such as Linear A-Linear B. 4. Study attitude and opinions of Students in the treatment group There is no significant difference between pretest and posttest in learning mathematics attitude, but their study attitude make positive progress. Almost all students in the treatment group like learning by the G.S.P.. Finally, some suggestions are offered to teachers、curriculum designers and researchers as the references of instruction and pedagogy in mathematics as well as future research.

Résumé :
Context: Fahr’s syndrome is a clinical entity of primary or secondary causes characterized by neurological and/or psychiatric symptoms associated with abnormal calcifications in basal ganglia, cerebellum and cerebral cortex. Case report: G.M.A, female, 49 years-old, presented athetosis in the distal extremity of the right upper limb (RUL) in December 2020, without seeking for medical help. Known to be diabetic, hypertensive and with diastolic heart failure (HF), in February 2021 she presented decompensated HF associated with worsening of involuntary movements in the RUL. During investigation, abnormalities in serum levels of parathormone (PTH) and calcium were observed, in addition to bilateral calcifications in basal ganglia and thalamus in brain computed tomography (CT) without contrast. In March 2021, she was admitted to the University Hospital of the Federal University of Piauí, with maintenance of athetosis at the distal extremity of the RUL, in addition to oromandibular dyskinesia. Laboratory profile compatible with primary hypoparathyroidism and new brain CT without contrast with calcifications in basal ganglia and pulvinar of the thalamus, bilaterally, were confirmed. Intravenous calcium replacement and use of calcitriol were performed, with partial clinical improvement. Conclusions: Fahr’s syndrome is characterized by the presence of movement disorders (with highlights for parkinsonism and athetosis) and psychiatric symptoms (depression most commonly). Possible etiologies are primary (genetic) and secondary (mainly idiopathic or secondary hypoparathyroidism). Classic finding of symmetrical calcifications in base nuclei is seen on brain CT. Treatment is symptomatic and control of the underlying disease.

Résumé :
The development in the computer networking area has been growing in the past few years in connection with the prevaling of the open system concepts and with the improvement in microcomputers as opposed to minicomputers technology. Compared to the structure of a centralized system, a distribuited structure gives the following advantages: functional flexibility, maintainability, software rangeability and friendly interface with the operator. Based on several years of field experience. Nuovo Pignone has developed an on-line diagnostic system for turbomachines made up of integrated hardware and software modules designed for optimum management of information coming from turbomachines. The system controls the mechanical and thermodynamic behaviour of the machines, thus providing an effective support to their operation and maintenance. This results in an increased availability lower maintainance costs and improved plant efficiency. A mathematical model, based on Gas Path Analysis (G.P.A.) methodology, has been implemented in the system and has already been successfully tested in several industrial applications, quite similar to Cortemaggiore plant. The experience gained in the Cortemaggiore gas compression station indicates that the main problem arises in interpretation of the data coming from the system. The Diagnostic System gives plenty of data, suitably arranged, to support the maintenance staff in their duties. Nevertheless is the operator who had to interpretate data, correlate thermodynamic information with mechanical data and decide on the best course of action. Taking into account that many plants are not continuously attended by highly experienced technicians in this domain, Nuovo Pignone has developed an Expert System, integrated with the Diagnostic Packages, that incorporates all the information acquired from skilled field engineers during years of activities.

Résumé :
Two monoclonal antibodies (mAb's) against antithrombin III (ATIII) were characterized with respect to their ability to interfere with ATIII activity. AT III activity was measured by its ability to inhibit the amidolitic activity of thrombin on the substrate BCP-100. Incubation of 150 ng of ATIII with 28pg mAb A36R2 prior to addition of 50 ng thrombin totally abolishes the inhibitory effect of ATIII on thrombin. Incubation of 200ng of ATIII with 10 μg of mAb B26R4 prior to addition of 75 ng thrombin raises the inhibitory effects of ATIII from 37% to 100%. We examined the effect of these mAb's on binding of antithrombin III-thrombin (ATIII-Th) complexes to bovine corneal endothelial cells. 120 pg/ml mAb's are reacted with 2 μg/ml ATIII-Th complexes prior to their addition to the cells. mAb A36R2 completely blocks ATIII-Th complexes binding. In contrast, mAb B26R4 enhances binding up to 250% of the control binding. We conclude that mAb A36R2 prevents binding of thrombin to ATIII by recognizing an epitope on ATIII close to thrombin binding site or that its binding to ATIII induces a conformational change in the thrombin binding site thus it no longer recognizes thrombin. mAb B26R4 has a heparin-like effect on ATIII: Its binding to ATIII induces conformational changes which improve thrombin binding to ATIII. There is a correlation between inhibition and enhancement of thrombin binding to ATIII and of ATIII-Th complexes binding to cells by the two mAb's. These mAb's may provide a new tool to control the activity of ATIII and to identify the cellular binding site on the ATIII-Th complex. This research was supported by a grant from the National Council for Research and Development, Israel and G.S.F. München, Germany.

Résumé :
Thrombin (Th) binds specifically to confluent cultures of bovine aortic (ABAE) and brain capillary (BBC) endothelial cells. Saturation of 125I-Th binding is observed after 1 h exposure to the ligand and at an extracellular concentration of 0.5 and 1.0 µg/ml for ABAE and BBC cells, respectively. Under optimal conditions both ABAE and BBC cultures bind about 2 to 5 ng/106 cells, which represents about 20% of Th binding.to bovine corneal endothelial (BCE) cells. The cell associated 125I-Th in ABAE and BBC cells is internalized and degraded as described in BCE cells. The nature of the cell associated radioactivity is analyzed on SDS-polyacrylamide -gel electrophoresis and in ABAE and BBC cells about 30% of the I-Th appears in a complex with protease nexin I (PN I) while in BCE cells about 70% of the binding is mediated by PN I. ABAE cells possess 3 types of complexes, one which appears only on the cell surface with a molecular weight of 78 kDa, and two other complexes which appear only in the conditioned medium (CM) with molecular weights of 84 and 85 kDa. BBC and BCE cells demonstrate only one type of complex with a molecular weight of 77 kDa which appears both on the cell surface and in the CM. Preincubation of BCE cultures in the presence of Th is known to up-regulate the amount of PN I on the cell surface and in the CM, but this Th induced up-regulation effect is not observed in ABAE or BBC cells. The results described above indicate a difference between ABAE and BBC cells although both cell types growunder similar conditins and demonstrate similar morphological appearance. However, in both vascular endothelial cell types the total amount of PN I and its metabolism is relatively small compared to corneal endothelial cells. It, therefore, may indicate the lower capacity of vascular endothelial cells to control serine proteases activity at or near their cell surfaces as compared to corneal endothelial cells. This research was supported by a grant from the NationalCouncil for Research and Development, Israel and G.S.F. Munchen, Germany
