Résumé :
ABSTRACT:In this paper, I examine Spinoza's ‘model of human nature’ in the Ethics, and especially his notion of the ‘free man’. I argue that, contrary to usual interpretations, the free man is not an individual without passions and inadequate ideas but rather an individual who is able consistently to live according to the guidance of reason. Therefore, it is not an impossible and unattainable ideal or incoherent concept, as has often been claimed, but a very realizable goal for the achievement of human well-being.

Résumé :
The author reflects on the fate of his generation – the generation of graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy in 1976, against the background of his personal history, trying to understand and explain why almost 30 years after the collapse of the Soviet power, after discovering the monstrous truth about its crimes, after the fall of the Iron Curtain and liberation from the “only right” ideology, people of different generations who lived under the USSR, and even very young people born after the collapse of the USSR, nostalgic for the Soviet system? How is it possible to know about the gulag and still erect monuments to Stalin? Why is it that after the experience of freedom and of a short but still normal human life, one must defend one’s freedom and human dignity again? And how is it that the country failed to seize the unique opportunity to change and become part of the world and returned to the rails of isolation and xenophobia? The author considers one of the important reasons of the incident that prevailed in modern Russia social infantilism, which was the consequence of the genetic heritage of serfdom, and “wild” individualism, which does not involve responsibility towards “others”.

Résumé :
AbstractAccording to Steven Nadler's novel interpretation of Spinoza's much discussed ‘free man’, the free man is not an unattainable ideal. On this reading, the free man represents an ideal condition not because he is passionless, as has often been claimed, but because even though he experiences passions, he ‘never lets those passions determine his actions’. In this paper, I argue that Nadler's interpretation is incorrect in taking the model of the free man to be an attainable ideal within our reach. Furthermore, I show that Spinoza's moral philosophy has room for another ideal yet attainable condition, which is represented by the wise man. On my reading, becoming a wise man consists not in surmounting human bondage, but in understanding ourselves as finite expressions of God's power and, thereby, coming to terms with the ineliminability of bondage for us due to our very human or modal condition in the Spinozistic universe.

Mobile mapping systems are commonly mounted on cars, ships and robots. The data is directly geo-referenced using GPS data and expensive IMU (inertial measurement systems). Driven by the need for flexible, indoor mapping systems we present an inexpensive mobile mapping solution that can be mounted on a backpack. It combines a horizontally mounted 2D profiler with a constantly spinning 3D laser scanner. The initial system featuring a low-cost MEMS IMU was revealed and demonstrated at <i>MoLaS: Technology Workshop Mobile Laser Scanning at Fraunhofer IPM</i> in Freiburg in November 2014. In this paper, we present an IMU-free solution.

Résumé :
This study is to understand Erasmus’s view on free will and liberal education from the perspective of the Renaissance man. In Erasmus’s view on free will, human being’s soul consists of both reason and free will which are considered to be inseparable and necessarily connected to each other, and free will could be cultivated in the process of improving reason through education. Erasmus accepts the concept of free choice which plays a role in arbitrarily choosing good or evil. Furthermore, he insists that the free choice is born from free will and reason. In his view, free will and reason exist as a form or a principle of the free choice. In other words, Erasmus presupposes the metaphysical dualism of the free choice and the free will. However, free will and reason corrupted by the Fall are not destroyed but restored through education. From the standpoint of education at the present time, Erasmus’s educational theory shows that there exists a intimate the relation between knowledge and morality. More specifically, he tries to reconcile Hellenism with Hebraism and demonstrate that there exists a necessary connection between reason and free will.

Abstract We lost a man - a person always rational, always free and gifted with the soul. We lost a man mainly in the space of language. Instead of a human is “individual” - a measure. This process has already accelerated in the second half of the 19th century. There is no human being anymore, there are individuals with a definable quality, and to segregate and destroy those who do not correspond to the desired image. Also in globally meant social aid. There is a need to go back to seeing the face of each human. Restore everyone.

Mycobacterium marinum, formerly known as ‘Mycobacterium balnei’, is a free-living organism which causes disease in fish and occasionally in man. When such infections occur in man they are usually associated with some aquatic activity, e.g. swimming, fishing, boating and keeping tropical fish. For this reason, the organism has been called a ‘leisure-time pathogen’ by Feldman, Long & David (1974) and the disease a ‘hobby hazard’ by Heineman, Spitzer & Pianphongsant (1972).

Résumé :
We review gases that can affect oxidative stress and that themselves may be radicals. We discuss O2 toxicity, invoking superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, and the hydroxyl radical. We also discuss superoxide dismutase (SOD) and both ground-state, triplet oxygen (3O2), and the more energetic, reactive singlet oxygen (1O2). Nitric oxide (·NO) is a free radical with cell signaling functions. Besides its role as a vasorelaxant, ·NO and related species have other functions. Other endogenously produced gases include carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Like ·NO, these species impact free radical biochemistry. The coordinated regulation of these species suggests that they all are used in cell signaling. Nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide, and the carbonate radical (CO3·−) react selectively at moderate rates with nonradicals, but react fast with a second radical. These reactions establish “cross talk” between reactive oxygen (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS). Some of these species can react to produce nitrated proteins and nitrolipids. It has been suggested that ozone is formed in vivo. However, the biomarkers that were used to probe for ozone reactions may be formed by non-ozone-dependent reactions. We discuss this fascinating problem in the section on ozone. Very low levels of ROS or RNS may be mitogenic, but very high levels cause an oxidative stress that can result in growth arrest (transient or permanent), apoptosis, or necrosis. Between these extremes, many of the gasses discussed in this review will induce transient adaptive responses in gene expression that enable cells and tissues to survive. Such adaptive mechanisms are thought to be of evolutionary importance.

Résumé :
The present research aimed to explore the impact of sales promotions on consumer behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study analyzed consumer reactions to various promotion types such as bonuses, coupons, buy one get one free, vouchers, free samples, and price discounts. The aim was to investigate if these promotions positively influence consumer purchasing behavior and if the pandemic has induced overpurchasing behavior due to panic. During the research, 541 randomly selected respondents from Azerbaijan and Poland were involved and the results showed that sales promotions have a positive effect on the consumer buying behavior and lead to an increase in purchases beyond the consumers’ actual needs. This is particularly true during times of economic uncertainty when consumers are searching for discounted products to save money and minimize household spending.

Objective: The objective of this report is to emphasize the importance of considering thyroid cancer in the differential diagnosis, when the origin of a metastatic boney lesion is indeterminate. Methods: Diagnostic studies performed included a thyroid function test, an ultrasound, and a computed tomography (CT) scan of the neck, biopsies of the bone, and thyroid lesions. Results: A 61-year-old man was found to have incidental sclerotic bone lesions in the lumbar region on CT scan performed in the setting of a prostate abscess induced sepsis. The bone biopsy suggested metastatic follicular thyroid carcinoma. Imaging studies of the neck showed markedly enlarged left greater than right thyroid nodules. A surgical specimen from the staged total thyroidectomy showed no evidence of thyroid malignancy, despite a thorough review of microscopic tissue sections at 5 μm. A whole body scan 2-months after radioactive iodine therapy demonstrated persistent uptake in the metastatic lesion at L4 and interval progression of widely metastatic disease. Conclusion: Metastatic thyroid cancer may be present without a histopathologic evidence of thyroid malignancy, albeit rarely. When the origin of a metastatic boney lesion is unclear, thyroid cancer should be included in the differential diagnosis.

Do differences in basic values and concerns underlie differences in the issue positions of women and men? This article uses a decomposition approach to assess the contribution of male-female differences in basic values and concerns to the gender gap in support for the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement in the 1988 Canadian federal election. Drawing on the work of Gilligan and other “difference” theorists, I theorize these differences in terms of “social woman” and “economic man.” The results support this interpretation. Men were more likely to bring economic considerations to bear in evaluating the agreement, whereas women's opinions were more likely to be influenced by their commitment to the welfare state and their greater concern for social programs. Women also proved to be more egalitarian and less persuaded of the virtues of competition and market solutions than were men.

Abstract A 38-year-old man with a metastatic gonadotropin-secreting tumor of unknown primary origin presented with both clinical and biochemical findings of hyperthyroidism in association with markedly increased concentrations of human choriogonadotropin (hCG) in plasma. After chemotherapy, the concentrations of both hCG and free thyroxin decreased and the patient became euthyroid. We discuss the rare occurrence of this presumably hCG-driven hyperthyroidism in men and compare it with the relatively more common eumetabolic hyperthyroidism associated with choriocarcinoma in women.

Résumé :
This article is part of a more detailed study of “pictopoetry” as a phenomenon, where we define its place in the genre system of surrealism on the example of Paul Eluard and Man Ray collection “Les Mains libres” (“Free Hands”). The activities of the surrealists expanded the artistic vision of the world to previously unknown boundaries. In particular, we observe these innovative achievements in the field of poetry, where A. Breton, W. Browner, P. Eluard and other representatives of this trend continued to search for new poetic intermediate forms, genre paradigms. The genre repertoire of surrealists is characterized by unusual diversity, exploratory nature and freedom from restrictions, and the short existence of new genres that did not mature in time, complicates the study of the genre system of this art direction, so it remains an unexplored field in literature. Forms and genres of poetry created within the framework of surrealism did not acquire a broad enough scientific understanding that would allow them to be systematized. Among contemporary French literary critics, more and more scientists turn to P. Eluard`s creative heritage, but some of them focus on the specifics of his collection “Free Hands”. In particular, in the few works of French scientists (S. Caron, J.-L. Benoit, M.F. Leudet, C. Leconte) considered only some aspects of the nature of the synthesis of graphic and textual components of the collection “Free Hands”, and the problem of P. Eluard and Man Ray pictopoetry’s poetics as a phenomenon significant for genre researches of surrealists is not staged at all. As for the specifics of the poetics of P. Eluard`s “pictopoetry”, it remains almost unexplored today. In the works of I. Ehrenburg and S. Velykovsky, the main attention is focused on the general analysis of P. Eluard`s poetry, his experience in the use of free verse and automatic writing. P. Eluard’s contribution to the development of visual poetry and the intermediate nature of his works are only partially considered by T. Balashova, Y. Dovga, I. Medvedeva, and the experience of poet’s work in tandem with illustrators became the subject of E. Miroshnikova special analysis. In Ukrainian Eluard`s studies, the attention of scinetists is focused on the study of biography, some techniques of the poet, for example, the use of free verse and automatic writing (O. Benina, V. Soloveychik), but not on the pictpoetry’s poetics as important sign of poetry of surrealism and it’s genre innovations. This fact necessitates the filling of the gaps that currently exist in the study of surrealist poetry in its innovative, revolutionary forms, including the “pictopoetry” of the master of surrealism – the French poet Paul Eluard. “Pictopoetry” as a concept developed theoretically by W. Brauner and revealed by P. Eluard in the collection “Free Hands” (created in collaboration with the artist Man Ray), embodies the intermedia research for surrealists of the twentieth century in general, as well as the unique experience of co-creation of two surrealist artists on a fundamentally new level, which goes far beyond the traditional collaboration of poet and illustrator. Therefore, P. Eluard`s “pictopoetry” is understood as an innovative form of surrealist poetry, built on the principle of synthesis of arts, on the intermediality. It seems relevant both in terms of understanding the work of surrealist poets, and in the context of Eluard’s studies, where the figure of the poet as an innovator, the practice of intermedia art, still remains insufficiently revealed. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify the originality of the poetics of Paul Eluard’s “pictopoetry” in the collection “Free Hands”. The article analyzes both literary and psycholinguistic means of expressing the double code in the collection on the example of duopoems. It is determined that the intermedia research method of the boundary state image, in which surreal images are intertwined at the level of poetic word and image, creating new meanings, defines the poetics of “Free Hands” as a collection created “in four hands”. This fact will allow us to analyze more thoroughly both the phenomenon of “pictopoetry” in particular and the contribution of the poet and artist in its development.

Résumé :
Based on the basic position of religious philosophy, N.A. Berdyaev understood the history of mankind fundamentally as a spiritual history, as the history of the free and spiritual fall of man, as the history of his self-salvation, in which the fate of man is tragic, therefore the whole meaning of history lies in its end. Attention to the fate of man and the desire to liberate the free spirit of man - this is the value of Berdyaev's historical philosophy.

Résumé :
The article presents author’s propositions for shaping free forms of buildings sensitive to harmonious incorporation into built or natural environments. Complex folded structures of buildings roofed with regular shell structures are regarded as the most useful in creative shaping the free forms that can easily adapt to various expected environmental conditions. Three more and more sophisticated methods are proposed for creating variously conditioned free form structures. The first method allows the possibility of combining many single free forms into one structure and leaves the designer full freedom in shaping regular or irregular structures. The second, more sophisticated method introduces additional rules supporting the designer's spatial reasoning and intuition in imposing regularity of the shapes of the building structure and its roof shell structure. The third, most sophisticated method introduces additional conditions allowing the optimization of the regular shapes and arrangement of complete shell roof segments on the basis of an arbitrary reference surface and a finite number of straight lines normal to the surface. This original, interdisciplinary study offers new insight into, and knowledge of, unconventional methods for the creative shaping of innovative free forms, where great possibility and significant restrictions result from geometrical and mechanical properties of the materials used. Solving a number of issues in the field of civil engineering, descriptive geometry and architecture is crucial in the process of creating these structures.
