Objective: The assessment of lipid profiles in children is critical for the early detection of dyslipidemia. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is one of the most often used measures in diagnosing and treating patients with dyslipidemia. Therefore, accurate determination of LDL-C levels is critical for managing lipid abnormalities. In this study, we aimed to compare various LDL-C estimating formulas with powerful machine-learning (ML) algorithms in a Turkish pediatric population. Materials and Methods: This study included 2,563 children under 18 who were treated at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Hospital in Sivas, Turkey. LDL-C was measured directly using Roche direct assay and estimated using Friedewald's, Martin/Hopkins', Chen's, Anandaraja's, and Hattori's formulas, as well as ML predictive models (i.e., Ridge, Lasso, elastic net, support vector regression, random forest, gradient boosting and extreme gradient boosting). The concordances between the estimates and direct measurements were assessed overall and separately for the LDL-C and TG sublevels. Linear regression analyses were also carried out, and residual error plots were created between each LDL-C estimation and direct measurement method. Results: The concordance was approximately 0.92-0.93 percent for ML models, and around 0.85 percent for LDL-C estimating formulas. The SVR formula generated the most concordant results (concordance=0.938), while the Hattori and Martin-Hopkins formulas produced the least concordant results (concordance=0.851). Conclusion: Since ML models produced more concordant LDL-C estimates compared to LDL-C estimating formulas, ML models can be used in place of traditional LDL-C estimating formulas and direct assays.

Two new formulas, the Martin-Hopkins and the Sampson formula, were recently developed to overcome shortcomings of the Friedewald formula for calculating LDL-cholesterol. We aimed to compare the concordance of the two formulas with apolipoprotein B (apoB), a surrogate marker of the number of LDL particles. In a study of serum lipid data of 1179 patients who consulted the AZ St-Jan Hospital Bruges for cardiovascular risk assessment, the correlation and concordance of the Friedewald, Martin-Hopkins and Sampson formulas with apoB concentration, measured by immunonephelometry, were determined and compared. The Martin-Hopkins formula showed significantly higher correlation coefficient than the Friedewald formula with apoB in the entire dataset and in patients with low LDL-cholesterol < 1.8 mmol/L. Both Martin-Hopkins and Sampson formulas yielded > 70% concordance of LDL-cholesterol with regard to treatment group classification based on population-equivalent thresholds of apoB in hypertriglyceridemic patients (2-4.5 mmol/L), with the highest concordance (75.6%) obtained using Martin-Hopkins formula vs. 60.5% with Friedewald formula. The Martin-Hopkins (and, to a lesser extent, Sampson) formula is more closely associated with the number of LDL particles than Friedewald formula. This, in combination with literature evidence of lesser accuracy of the Friedewald formula, is an argument to switch from Friedewald to a modified, improved formula.

We can construct a [Formula: see text]-manifold by attaching [Formula: see text]-handles to a [Formula: see text]-ball with framing [Formula: see text] along the components of a link in the boundary of the [Formula: see text]-ball. We define a link as [Formula: see text]-shake slice if there exists embedded spheres that represent the generators of the second homology of the [Formula: see text]-manifold. This naturally extends [Formula: see text]-shake slice, a generalization of slice that has previously only been studied for knots, to links of more than one component. We also define a relative notion of shake[Formula: see text]-concordance for links and versions with stricter conditions on the embedded spheres that we call strongly[Formula: see text]-shake slice and strongly[Formula: see text]-shake concordance. We provide infinite families of links that distinguish concordance, shake concordance, and strong shake concordance. Moreover, for [Formula: see text] we completely characterize shake slice and shake concordant links in terms of concordance and string link infection. This characterization allows us to prove that the first non-vanishing Milnor [Formula: see text] invariants are invariants of shake concordance. We also argue that shake concordance does not imply link homotopy.

We show that for each Seifert form of an algebraically slice knot with nontrivial Alexander polynomial, there exists an infinite family of knots having the Seifert form such that the knots are linearly independent in the knot concordance group and not concordant to any knot with coprime Alexander polynomial. Key ingredients for the proof are Cheeger–Gromov–von Neumann [Formula: see text]-invariants for amenable groups developed by Cha–Orr and polynomial splittings of metabelian [Formula: see text]-invariants.

Obesity is one of the most important health issues worldwide. According to the Mexican National Survey of Health and Nutrition 2018 “ENSANUT”, 76.8% of women and 73% of men who are 18 years or older are overweight or obese, and the majority are not well diagnosed. One of the greatest difficulties in order to diagnose this disease is the poor correlation between the BMI and the real fat percentage. There are different ways to estimate the fat percentage. Some of them are the formulas based on anthropometric measures. We conducted a retrolective, descriptive, transversal trial to analyze the correlation between the fat percentage measured by bioelectrical impedance with In Body 230 and the one calculated with the Deurenberg, Lean, and CUN BAE formulas in Mexican adults. We analyzed 319 people, 111 men, and 208 women. The average age was 43.8, and 44.13 years, respectively. The average BMI for each gender was 36.5 kg/m2 and 33.8 kg/m2, and the average fat percentage was 38.23 and 45.53 respectively. We calculated de Pearson correlation index between fat percentage mesure by bioelectrical impedance and the one calculated by the formulas enlisted before. We also calculated the W/H and the average between the three formulas. The Pearson correlation index for Deurenberg’s formula was 0.71, for men and 0.816 for women. For Lean’s formula was 0.622 for men and 0.701 for women, and for CUN BAE’s formula 0.77for men, and 0.856 for women. All of them with estatistical significance (p<0.001). For the W/H was 0.702 (p<0.001) for men and 0.681 (p<0.001) for women, and for the average of the three formulas was 0.73 (p<0.001) for men and 0.828 (p<0.001) for women. In conclusion CUN BAE´s and Deurenberg’s formulas have a higher correlation with the fat percentage in both genders, and CUN BAE’s formula is the one with more correlation in women.

The Cockcroft-Gault (CG) formula is recommended to guide clinicians in the choice of the appropriate dosage for direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). However, the performance of the CG formula varies depending on the patient’s age, weight, and degree of renal function. We aimed to compare the validity of the CG formula with that of Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI) and Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formulae for dosing DOACs. A total of 6268 consecutive patients on anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation (AF) were retrospectively investigated. Among underweight and elderly patients, the CG formula underestimated renal function compared with the non-CG formulae. However, the concordant rate of drug indications between the CG and the non-CG formulae was approximately 94%. On-label uses under the three formulae were associated with a lower risk of major bleeding (but not thromboembolism) compared to warfarin. Although we found differences in estimating renal function and the proportions of drug indications between the CG and non-CG formulae, the risks of thromboembolism and major bleeding were similar to those with warfarin regardless of which formula was used.

We establish several results about two short exact sequences involving lower terms of the [Formula: see text]-solvable filtration, [Formula: see text] of the string link concordance group [Formula: see text]. We utilize the Thom–Pontryagin construction to show that the Sato–Levine invariants [Formula: see text] must vanish for 0.5-solvable links. Using this result, we show that the short exact sequence [Formula: see text] does not split for links of two or more components, in contrast to the fact that it splits for knots. Considering lower terms of the filtration [Formula: see text] in the short exact sequence [Formula: see text], we show that while the sequence does not split for [Formula: see text], it does indeed split for [Formula: see text]. This allows us to determine that the quotient [Formula: see text].

We introduce the relations [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] with respect to a subset U of idempotents. Based on [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], we define a new class of semigroups which we name U-concordant semigroups. Our purpose is to describe U-concordant semigroups by generalized categories over a regular biordered set. We show that the category of U-concordant semigroups and admissible morphisms is isomorphic to the category of RBS generalized categories and pseudo functors. Our approach is inspired from Armstrong’s work on the connection between regular biordered sets and concordant semigroups. The significant difference in strategy is by using RBS generalized categories equipped with pre-orders, we have no need to discuss the quotient of a category factored by a congruence.

Nous développons une méthode de modélisation et de validation adaptée aux système parallèles structurés en couches hiérarchiques. Nous définissons deux notions : la concordance de modèle prouve que le modèle possède bien les propriétés dégagées par les spécifications; l'adéquation de service valide le protocole par rapport à son service. Nous appliquons notre méthode à la modélisation du protocole de télécommunication de niveau Transport (la couche 4 d'après la norme ISO sur l'interconnexion des systèmes ouverts). Nous étudions tout particulièrement la gestion de désynchronisations du Service de la couche Réseau, et le contrôle de flux avec réquisition de crédit du protocole de la couche Transport. Nous utilisons les réseaux de Petri à prédicats pour décrire le modèle du service rendu par le couche Réseau sous-jacente et nous en servir pour construire le modèle du protocole de ma couche Transport. nous prouvons que la notion d'abstraction peut s'étendre aux réseaux de Petri à prédicats. La preuve du déroulement correct du protocole est apportée en utilisant les invariants issus du modèle.

In many international schools where English is the language of learning and teaching there are large percentages of students whose first language is not English. Many of these students may have low vocabulary levels which inhibits their chances of taking full advantage of their education. Low vocabulary levels can be a particular problem for students in mainstream classes where fluent English speaking teachers are using English to teach content areas of Mathematics, Science and History. Not only do students have to comprehend the low-frequency, academic and technical vocabulary pertaining to the subject, but they also need to know the higher frequency vocabulary that makes up general English usage. If students’ vocabulary levels fall too far below the vocabulary levels with which their teachers are speaking, then their chance of comprehending the topic is small, as is their chance of succeeding in their subjects. This study has two broad aims. Firstly, I have set out to assess the English vocabulary levels of students at an international school where English is the language of learning and teaching. The majority of students at this school do not have English as their first language. The second aim of this study is to explore the vocabulary profile of the teachers’ spoken discourse at the research school. By gaining a better understanding of the nature of teacher discourse – specifically the percentage of high, mid and low-frequency vocabulary, as well as academic vocabulary that they use – English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers will be in a stronger position to identify what the vocabulary learning task is and be able to assist students in reaching the vocabulary levels necessary to make sense of their lessons. This study revealed a large gap between the generally low vocabulary levels of ESL students and the vocabulary levels spoken by their teachers. As a result the need for explicit vocabulary instruction and learning is shown to be very important in English medium (international) schools, where there are large numbers of students whose first language is not English.

This chapter gives an account of the debates between the followers of Melachthon and the followers of Brenz in the years immediately prior to the Formula of Concord (1577). It then describes the formula itself, and finally the later Christology of Martin Chemnitz, which differs sharply from his earlier views in a number of key respects. It shows that the two parts of the formula, composed respectively by Andreae and Chemnitz, while agreeing that Christ’s human nature possesses divine attributes, diverge in numerous ways on questions of both Christological metaphysics and Christological semantics, and that these divergences render the two parts prima facie incompatible.

Recently, effects of cantilever beam’s structural parameters and cross-section shape on energy-harvesting micro-device is concerned and investigated in this paper, so as to study its performance of energy harvesting to meet the needs of low resonant frequency and maximum output power. The effect of a cantilever beam’s structure dimensions as well as quality of the mass on the device’s resonance frequency and maximum output power can be detected through formula computing. Further study on effect of a cantilever beam’s cross-section shape has also been worked out. According to the simulation experimental results gained from ANSYS with appropriate parameters defined by theoretical derivation, we manage to receive concordant conclusions. To receive a better performance of the energy harvester, we should choose a shorter, wider and thicker cantilever beam with rectangular cross-section and heavier mass at its end. However, to meet the requirement of low resonant frequency for piezoelectric vibration energy harvesting, we still need to define either an upper or a lower limit while choosing parameters of the device.

Résumé :
The projection and implementation of the national continuous training programs for the teaching staff for the Romanian schooling uses formulas of blended learning more and more often. The virtual educational environment that has been created implies respecting the specific exigencies of such an environment which also has to satisfy several needs of a real professional training. Since the beginning of this century, the directions of innovation and the Romanian Reform of primary education have focused towards the integration of an interdisciplinary vision in the construction of knowledge and the child preparation for all the scholar solicitations in the context of the preparatory class. The SWOT Analysis for the integration of the training program for the teaching staff from the primary educational environment from 2012 and 2013 had shown a heterogeneity ensemble of psycho pedagogical conceptions, educational practices and especially essential arguments which sustain the necessity of creating flexible scenarios which are adapted to the Romanian educational reality. The construction of this training program is based on the idea of integrating the principles of the pedagogy of diversity? The educational community hosted by the platform and the debate forum from the internet has been formed in the main context to fulfill the needs to educate this categories professional in perfect concordance with the pedagogical practices. This research synthesizes the conclusions of an investigation dedicated to the way that the training program for teaching staff from the primary educational environment has supported the adequate treatment of diversity in its multiple manifestations. The most important aspects of this research are focused towards the evaluation of the concrete modalities in which the principles of the pedagogy of diversity can offer systematically occasions for personalizing the online learning process. The investigation has appreciated the concrete level of promoting the standards of inclusive learning in the active construction and exploration of the online learning.

Introdução: Inúmeros desafios de saúde pública são enfrentados no que se refere à aquisição e à transmissão das infecções sexualmente transmissíveis, especialmente ao vírus da imunodeficiência humana, pois a epidemia atinge principalmente as pessoas em situações de vulnerabilidade, como a população de lésbicas, gays, bissexuais, transexuais e travestis, queers, intersexuais, assexuais e todas as demais existências de gêneros e sexualidades (LGBTQIA+) privadas de liberdade. Objetivo: Descrever o conhecimento da população LGBTQIA+ privada de liberdade sobre as formas de transmissão de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis/vírus da imunodeficiência humana. Métodos: Estudo descritivo, quantitativo, realizado em unidade prisional localizada em Fortaleza (CE), com amostra formada por 31 internos LGBTQIA+. Os dados foram compilados e analisados no programa estatístico Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), versão 24.0. O estudo seguiu a resolução 466/2012. Resultados: Todos eram do sexo masculino, com média de idade de 30 anos, identidade de gênero transexual e transgênera (38,7%, respectivamente), pardos (58,1%), sem parcerias fixas (48,4%), com ensino fundamental incompleto (41,9%), desempregados (41,9%) e presos há um tempo médio de 34 meses. Do total, 90,3% discordaram que uma pessoa pode se infectar com o vírus da imunodeficiência humana ao ser picada por inseto, 93,5% discordaram que a infecção poderia ser causada ao compartilhar talheres, copos ou refeições com alguém soropositivo para vírus da imunodeficiência humana, 96,8% concordaram que uma pessoa pode se infectar compartilhando seringa ou agulha com outras pessoas, 87,1% concordaram que uma pessoa pode se infectar ao não usar preservativos nas relações sexuais anais, 90,3% afirmaram concordar que uma pessoa pode se infectar ao não usar preservativos nas relações sexuais vaginais e 74,2% concordaram que a infecção pode ocorrer com o na771, o uso do preservativo nas relações sexuais orais. Conclusão: Apesar do considerado nível de conhecimento em geral, os resultados encontrados indicam a necessidade de ações e programas e de prevenção de infecções sexualmente transmissíveis/vírus da imunodeficiência humana/aids para a população LGBTQIA+ privada de liberdade.

A alopecia androgênica é conhecida popularmente como calvície e é muito comum na nossa sociedade. Infelizmente, ela acaba impactando na estética capilar e gerando baixa autoestima de muitas pessoas, por isso, ela tem sido foco de estudos do campo da estética e cosmética. Essa patologia dermatológica produz a ausência, rarefação ou queda dos cabelos e pelos e possui como etiologia a predisposição hereditária que conduz a miniaturização folicular promovendo a rarefação do cabelo de forma não cicatricial. Porém, essa disfunção capilar pode ser controlada com a terapia cosmética vegana. Para tanto, foi realizado um estudo com o objetivo de verificar os benefícios da terapia cosmética vegana para aumentar a cobertura do couro cabeludo e retardar a progressão da queda de cabelo. Este relato de caso se refere a um homem caucasiano de 54 anos com diagnóstico de alopecia androgênica do tipo 3 da escala Norwood-Hamilton. O paciente não era diabético, sem histórico de câncer e doenças cardiovasculares. O voluntário foi orientado quanto ao objetivo e desenvolvimento do estudo e concordou na participação assinando o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido conforme as Resoluções nº 466/12 e 510/16 do Conselho Nacional de Saúde. O embasamento teórico foi obtido por meio da base de dados virtuais a Biblioteca Wiley Online e Google Scholar, sendo a busca dos dados feita através dos descritores: alopecia androgênica, cosmético vegano, vegan cosmetic. Embora não exista um padrão ouro para se diagnosticar a alopecia androgênica, é possível determiná-la através de uma anamnese e exame físico com auxílio de dermatoscópio. Na avaliação se questionou sobre variação de peso, uso de anabolizantes, uso de produtos químicos, medicações e história familiar, contudo as respostas foram negativas. O resultado da dermatoscopia confirmou a presença de miniaturização dos fios nas regiões fronto-temporais. Outro achado significativo foi a diminuição do número de fios na mesma unidade folicular, com um a dois fios em média. Também se constatou a presença de sinal peripilar, ou seja, hiperpigmentação de tom acastanhado em torno de alguns folículos. Para controlar e até mesmo retardar a queda de cabelo, foram realizadas 20 sessões de tratamento, duas vezes por semana. O tratamento consistiu em higienização e esfoliação com shampoo vegano composto pelos ativos: ácido salicílico derivado do extrato de wintergreen, ginseng, cúrcuma, lavanda, alecrim e gerânio. A composição do shampoo permitiu a remoção da sujidade, desincrustar, nutrir e prevenir a quebra dos fios. Após a higienização e esfoliação foi realizada massagem capilar com aplicação do tônico formulado a partir de extratos de casca de tangerina fallopia japonica e amla, ginseng, cúrcuma orgânica, aminoácidos derivados de plantas, lavanda, alecrim e gerânio. O tônico vegano propiciou revigorar o couro cabeludo, dando suporte à queratina natural, melhorando a microcirculação capilar permitindo reforçar a nutrição e oxigenação das raízes. Como resultado, aumentou-se o número de fios por unidade capilar, regularam-se as funções sebáceas, aumentou-se a espessura dos fios, fato que resultou no aumento capilar.
