Visser, Alvin-Jon. « Rural students' local knowledge of learning in formal and informal contexts ». Thesis, Rhodes University, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1002588.

Résumé :
The general aim of this thesis is to illuminate the process of learning as it occurs in formal and informal contexts. The study focuses on South African scholars attending school in rural areas where the contrast between learning in formal and informal learning contexts is more pronounced than that in urban areas. The research draws on rural scholars' local knowledge of formal and informal learning contexts in order to gain a rich insight into how cognition is situated in different learning contexts. This is accomplished through investigating the structure of the respective learning tasks, the mediators involved, the task objectives and the means for achieving these objectives in the different learning contexts. The thesis draws on a socio-cultural approach to the study of cognitive development to probe the activity of learning in a formal and informal learning context. Through the use of a context sensitive methodological methods especially Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools and techniques, it was possible to illuminate tacit local knowledge structures and to get participants to actively explicate their understandings related to learning in different contexts The research results illustrate the assertion that the activity of learning is fundamentally situated in the learning context from which it arises. Learning is framed by the community of practice which structures affordances for situated learning, through mediation, within zones of proximal development. Learning in a formal context such as the school is often abstract, rule-based, standardised and theory related. Learners also find it difficult to reflect on the learning tasks and the mediational means used in a formal learning context. In contrast, the learning which takes place in an informal setting is often practical, individualised, flexible and environment based. This learning is structured around everyday activities and is dynamically defined and supported. In a situation where a learner is exposed to dislocated learning contexts, the essential goal of educational initiatives is to bridge the gap between the two. This can be achieved through mediators creating effective zones of proximal development which facilitate the individuals adaptation between learning contexts. Exposing rural scholars' local knowledge of learning in formal and informal contexts allows for a fuller understanding of the cognitive development structured within formal and informal communities of practice. It is this understanding that is necessary to address the situation where learning contexts, drawing on different knowledge bases find ways of thinking, prove challenging and/or conflicting to the scholar.

Résumé :
This multi-site qualitative study focused on mature students' meanings for and experiences of learning inside and outside formal education. Its purpose was to ascertain how influences of lifelong learning shape adults' expectations and experiences of returning to a formal learning situation after a gap of at least three years. Eight cycles of inquiry were guided by continual data analysis. Sources for data collection and analysis during cycles 1-7, involving 48 participants, included life story interviews with 3S; group interviews with 21, 11 of whom were also seen individually or in pairs; conversations with students; written material; reflexive field notes. Two cycles involved follow ups of participants who had moved to another formal learning situation. Additional groups of adult learners were used in Cycle 8 to check meaningfulness and credibility of the final data analysis. In Cycles 1-7, adults spoke from the vantage points of 55 different formal learning situations, 48 of which were in higher education. The majority of participants are identified as 'non-traditional' in the higher education literature. The final analysis is presented in four main sections: learning during the initial school years; learning as an adult outside formal education; expectations of and transitions to formal learning contexts; experiences of formal learning situations, and especially higher education. An additional section summarises checks for meaningfulness and credibility of the final data analysis with study and non-study participants. The notion of 'disjunction and integration' serves to organise the final analysis. Learning experiences characterised by disjunction or integration are seen to shape a sense of 'learner identity and possibility' in particular ways. These sensitising concepts provide a way of illuminating the situation of adult learners from a perspective not currently found in the literature relating to access and mature students. The implications of study outcomes are considered with respect to current concerns to widen access to British higher education.

The purpose of this study is to inquire the known perception of parents, guardian and, also, teachers, on private/ cooperative education and public education. The study was validated by twenty subjects, both male and female, which were: (N=5) parents or guardian of children attending elementary public schools; (N=5) parents or guardian of children attending private/ cooperative elementary schools; (N=5) public elementary school teachers; (N=5) private/ cooperative elementary school teachers. The data was collected using semi-structured interviews and assessed through content analysis. The outcome revealed major differences between the two teaching settings due to different resources and infrastructure perceptions, different educational and teaching practises, the diversity/ uniformity of the school attending children and also the number of students per class. Regardless of this, there is an agreement on the undeniable quality of the teaching methods, the educational practice and the relationship set, between teachers, children, and parents in both.

Higher Education institutions have increasingly had to adapt to both the digitalization of education and a broad global demographic of students re-entering formal education at different stages of their careers as lifelong learners, often in combination with parallel professional responsibilities. The purpose of this interpretive study is to understand student experiences and conceptions of learning across contexts - from a learning ecologies perspective - in the context of online HE. The primarily qualitative mixed methods multiple case study was developed across three sites of fully online graduate level programs (master's or 1st year doctoral students) at the UOC and at UIUC. The results obtained using a Learning Ecologies (LE) analytical framework have demonstrated the effectiveness of the construct for analyzing the complexity of learning across multiple contexts. The findings highlight the centrality of learner activity as a key component which drives an individual's LE in combination with peer support and digital learning resources within open, dynamic and fluid systems spanning multiple contexts.

Tan, Wee Hoe. « Game-based learning in formal educational contexts : how subject matter experts and game experts could collaborate to design and develop games ». Thesis, University of Warwick, 2010. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/35620/.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This doctoral research aimed to investigate how subject matter experts (SMEs) and game experts can collaborate to design and develop games for use in formal educational contexts. The research began with a literature review of key concepts and issues associated with game-based learning (GBL), which led to the process of defining and redefining the overarching research question, along with its scope and position in academia. A three-phase strategy was adopted to segregate the research into exploratory, confirmative and explanatory phases, wherein each phase comprised interrelated studies. These studies were integrated through the Spiral Research model to enable temporal focus shift, cross-case analyses and cross-case syntheses. In the exploratory studies, the perceived potentials of games and GBL in the formal educational context were examined revealing the differing views between SMEs and game experts. This in turn guided the conduct of the confirmative studies which compared the attitude of SMEs and game experts in both the 'usual' and the 'ideal' conditions towards GBL practice and collaboration that involves teachers, SMEs and educational game experts. Two questionnaire surveys were carried out, and the findings revealed that, under ideal conditions, both SMEs and game experts held positive attitudes to GBL—the games used, the teachers who use games in teaching, the studios that develop educational games, and the collaboration between SMEs and game experts. However, the respondents were uncertain whether the perceived 'ideal' GBL conditions were usually the case or not. Follow-up interviews were conducted in the explanatory phase in order to uncover the reasons behind these changes in attitudes. While a variety of reasons were found and presented as parts of the findings of the research, particularly the challenges faced in GBL practice and the problems encountered in GBL collaboration, this thesis asserts that effective communication between SMEs and game experts is the key success factor in resolving issues associated with GBL. Besides, there was a pressing need for models of GBL collaboration; hence the integrated GBL model was also developed. The model not only incorporates GBL practice into GBL collaboration, but also highlights the importance of effective communication in those processes. Despite being limited by methodological constraints and available resources, both the Spiral Research model and the integrated GBL collaboration model have made substantial contributions to the research into GBL, particularly for formal educational contexts.

This research had the general objective to develop a proposal for supervising action for the orientation and follow-up of the formation processes in context, developed by pedagogical coordinators with the teachers, in the thematic evaluation of learning. For the elaboration of the proposal, we look for theoretical references that subsidize the understanding of the role of the school supervisor and the pedagogical coordinator in the daily school life; the analysis of the concepts built on formation processes in context in the educational units; and the conceptions that underlie the evaluation process of classroom learning. The proposal consisted in organizing mentoring meetings, inspired by the tutorial actions developed by Fundação Itaú Social, together with the pedagogical coordinator, to carry out activities such as diagnosis of the school context, analysis of pedagogical documentation, monitoring and structuring of their work routine. The research of qualitative approach involved the obtaining of descriptive data, through questionnaires and a collective interview for submission of the proposal of supervisory action to pedagogical coordinators and school supervisors, linked to the Municipal Department of Education of São Paulo, aiming to gather data about the usefulness, viability and modifications relevant to their implementation. The result of the research was the presentation of a proposal for a supervisory action that emphasizes a proactive role of the school supervisor in daily observation, reality analysis, discussion of referrals and formation strategies with the pedagogical coordinator, indicating the need to build links and partnerships that allow the follow-up, orientation and evaluation of the educational unit, as well as promote the process of awareness and involvement, both of pedagogical coordinators and the school supervisor, in a qualified work of evaluating learning and strengthening of formation spaces in context

As a powerful form of knowledge creation, mentoring can deliver new ideas to organisations. Theorists and practitioners alike advocate that engaging in effective mentoring relationships can be very useful to an individual’s personal and professional development. However, very little empirical work has been carried out on the impact of mentoring relationships on knowledge creation and sharing. Through the development of a conceptual model of mentoring from a knowledge-based perspective (Figure 2.1), which is based on Nonaka and Takeuchi's (1995) theoretical SECI (socialisation, externalisation, combination and integration) process, this research focuses in particular on the socialisation dimension – the face-to-face sharing of knowledge between mentors and mentees. Using a qualitative, mixed-methods approach involving a single case study, a focus group and 27 semi-structured, one-to- one interviews, my research is framed on the three elements of the knowledge-creation process:1.The context: the space where mentoring takes place2.The process: the matching and knowledge-conversion process within the mentoring relationship3.The outcomes: intrinsic and extrinsic outcomes experienced by those involved in mentoring partnershipsThe research findings present a new, knowledge-based perspective of formal staff mentoring in higher education and, in so doing, contribute to narrowing the identified gaps in the literature. The research concludes that formal mentoring provides a ‘safe socialisation space’ for the spiral of knowledge creation and transfer to flourish through sharing and transferring existing knowledge. In particular, the findings show that the transfer of tacit knowledge, specifically institutional tacit knowledge, from the more experienced mentor to the mentee results in the creation of new knowledge and key intrinsic and extrinsic outcomes for the mentee, mentor and institution.

Creativity is a trait that has been widely recognized and required in social contexts, highlighting, among these, the educational context. This study aimed to evaluate the creativity of children that attending different contexts of education, being: (1) exclusively context of formal education and (2) both formal and non-formal context, to verify the existence of differences in creative performance groups according to the frequented context and the influence of sex, grade, type of ONG (non-governmental organization) and time in non-formal context. The study included 100 subjects, of both sexes, with 48 females and 52 males, aged between nine and 11 years of age (M = 10.7, SD = 0.80), 3rd to 6th grade of elementary school. The participants were selected by convenience in three contexts of education, being a school, representing the context of formal education (n=51) and two institutions of non-governmental organizations to represent the context of non-formal education (n=49), being 26 by institution 1 and 23 by institution 2). The Creativity Figural Child Test (Nakano, Primi & Wechsler, 2011) was used and consisted of three stimuli incomplete activities that must be answered in the form of drawings. The instrument evaluates 12 creative features grouped in four factors (Enrichment Ideas, Emotionality, Cognitive Aspects and Creative Preparation). The results showed that gender, grade and educational context did not exert significant influence in any of the creative factors. In creative features, the gender variable exerted a significant influence on Unusual Perspective (F = 4,.67, p ? 0,03 ) and Originality (F = 6,79, p ? 0,01) both in activity 2, sex interaction with series on Originality in activity 2 (F = 3,22, p? 0,02), sex x context for Internal Perspective in activity 2 (F = 4,75, p ? 0,03) and Perspective Uncommon in the same activity (F = 5,68, p ?0,01). The interaction between sex and series exerted influence on Internal Perspective (F = 4,40, p ? 0,03) and Originality in activity 2 (F = 5,56; p? 0,02). We also found that the ONG variable exerted a significant influence on the Movement characteristic (F = 6,88; p ? 0,01) in activity 2, time of permanence and ONGs had significant influence on Development (F = 3,32, p ? 0, 04), Use of context (F = 3,68; p ? 0,03) and Movement (F = 10,00, p ? 0,00) in activity 2, and variable time exerted significant influence in Movement (F = 5 , 26, p ? 0,00) and Fluency (F = 3,16, p ? 0,05) in activity 2. These findings allowed to discuss and reflect on the importance of both education contexts for the development of creative performance, although much still has to be done. Conclude how much still has to develop on creativity in educational contexts, as in non-formal education, so little space that is explored in Brazilian research.

In view of the environmental problematic and the anthropic impacts the environment suffered, it becomes important to spread practices in Environmental Education on every level of teaching, since they are strategic tools when it comes to changing the collective and individual views, either relating to the Formal environment or the non-Formal one. In this study, it was noted that one type of integration was procured by the intermunicipal public partnerships, through projects, visits to the conservation units, amongst other activities. Thus, six techniques adopted by the CORIPA (Intermunicipal Consortium for the Conservation of the Remaining of the Parana River and its influence area) were chosen for analysis and replication at the Admiral Tamandaré State High School, located at the town of Cruzeiro do Oeste – PR, intending to verify the use of those non-Formal environmental techniques on school context. Starting from the collected information, it was initially defended that the access to scientific knowledge on specific environmental questions could collaborate to reconstruction of a much more enhanced environmental conception. For that, for the collection of data it was adopted the qualitative-quantitative methodology, using documents and theoretical references, workshops and polls (before and after said workshops). For the analysis, the data analysis based on analytical description technique was chosen, with emphasis in the Bardin Content Analysis (1977). Based on the modus operandi of the mentioned techniques, along with the answers listed on the polls and the speech of the participants during the development of the workshops, it was stated that the way the environmental techniques are applied on the non-Formal environment, in whole, are not efficient for the reconstruction of a more enhanced environmental conception (specifically for high school students). In conclusion, the techniques should have their modus operandi adapted to each environment and better time distribution that will remain active, collaborating to the idea of programs, instead of what is done today, which are based on projects.

The aim of this thesis is to offer an answer to the pressing need to find a coherent and sound way to introduce students’ mother tongues in additional language teaching in the primary education school. After a long period of time when this was seen as a teaching practice that did not favour learning, research and teaching practice have begun to offer different answers and, at present, the introduction of other languages in the classroom is more widely accepted as a way of enriching the teaching and learning process. However, the introduction of the mother tongue needs to respond to pedagogic criteria and must not be the result of a spontaneous or not very coherent decision. This is what the model offered by pedagogically-based codeswitching pretends, as it is based on designing language activities that allow the students to establish connections among the different languages they know (in the context of the study for the thesis, these are Catalan, Spanish and English) and to begin using codeswitching (which is a communicative resource typical of plurilingual speech) in a very guided way. The result of the research is that, on the one hand, the English learning pace is kept and, on the other, futher positive aspects are added to this process, such as the development of language awareness. All of this helps promote the plurilingual and pluricultural competence of children who are already living in a plurilingual and pluricultural world.

Arts and creativity are essential elements for individual, social, cultural growth as well as for the development of society. However, since the sixteenth century we live strongly influenced by the parameters of cognitive instrumental rationality. particularly in western culture has been dominates the overvaluation of objectivity, rationality and the hard sciences to the detriment of artistic creation. This research examines the rational of art and its influence on limiting the creativity in the school environment. Thus, analyzing the different conceptions of creativity, in the light of historical evolution and the influences of inherited socio-cultural context. Also considers the concept of art/ education in its relation to the historical conditions of insertion of formal education in Brazil. Finally, this paper identifies the hallmarks of rationality in current educational processes in Brazil, with reference to contemporary theories. The conclusion of this study may serve as a basis for providing subsidies to reflect on the need for renewal of views on creativity as an instrument of intellectual education, the teaching of arts in the school context.

The present study seeks to contribute new evidence on the effects of the CLIL approach (Content and Language Integrated Learning) on the learners’ productive and receptive skills in a private school in Barcelona (Catalonia). This is a bilingual community in which both Catalan and Spanish are official languages and where English represents the third language included in the currículum. For that purpose, 100 bilingual Catalan / Spanish students aged 12 to 15 are analysed longitudinally over two academic years in two different types of exposure contexts: EFL (English only as a foreign language school subject, n=50, control group) and CLIL (English as medium of instruction when learning Science, n=50, experimental group). Data are elicited both for productive and comprehension skills and are analysed quantitatively and qualitatively using a posttest design at the end of each academic year. The results show the effectiveness of the CLIL approach, however not in all skills. In contrast with findings published in previous studies, the subjects’ writing and particularly so accuracy, significatively progressed and so did lexico-grammatical abilities. Results also tend to confirm that age had an impact and thus the older, the better.

The thesis is embedded in the Technology and Society matter. From this issue that, in a more specific way, I tried to explain in details the relationship established between the object ‘’family house’’, having the land and sea as laboratories, concrete and symbolical technical fieldsin the context of the Pedagogy of Alternating – PA. The study had as main goal the examination of processes of technical appropriation in the context of the Alternating Pedagogy, based in the interactions between technical fieldsand objects, lived in nine Rural Family Houses – RFH and one Sea Family House – SFH, located in Brazil’s south region, between the years 2010 and 2013.Therefore, some specific goals were set, with the purpose of creating the necessary deepening conditions for the building of a theoretical-methodological apparatus that would allow a precise analysis coherent with the research objectives. Therefore, the following specific goals were settled: the characterization of the Countryside Education and the rationality of its subjects; the systematization in the origins of the Pedagogy of Alternating, as of its theoretical and methodological references; the contextualization of technique, technology and conversation with the countryside; and finally, the analysis of some of the interactions that show in the subjects of study’s daily, that take in account elaborated objects and technical fields and giving new meaning to the diversity of time by the diversity of time and space related to the Pedagogy of Alternating. With the intention of serving the methodological precautions that guide the study, in what concerns its dialogic prism and the understanding of the relations as of the technical codes and designs inherent to the searched context, a group of different methods of research were chosen, keeping in mind the diversity of the subjects of study, wich can be : teachers, monitors, parents or youths in education. Among them, highlights the accomplishment of focus groups, led under the perspective of the so called ‘’common emplacements’’, interviews and stages of life performed with the RFH’s and SFH’s. It is yet necessary to emphasize that the aforesaid study didn’t objective comparative studies between Family Houses, but to understand the heterogeneous and identity modeldynamics that put them together. In sight of the exposed, in terms of synthesis, it is possible to consider that those dynamics are sustained in a plurality of symbolical and concrete elements that dwell in the womb of the movements (political, cultural, religious), in which are placed in its subjects. That means that claiming that the Pedagogy of Alternating can’t be noticed as a non-contextualized formative modality, but deeply associated to the articulations of its subjects, of the contradictions and stresses between the State and eventhe conceptions of faith that guide it. Besides that, highlights the singularities about the construction, elaboration and appropriation of the objects and fields, whose meanings or re-meanings, technical codes or designs are crossed by interactions that occur in space-times of stresses, contradictions and resistences, that permanently dialogue with the issues of technique and technology.

Résumé :
Non-formal music learning has burgeoned over the last ten years particularly in UK secondary schools and in the Netherlands, where professional performers and community musicians have brought musical leadership skills into the formal education environment. The rationale for this PhD thesis came from the lack of research into non-formal learning of musical rhythm in a formal education context. As its main aim, this study situated in the context of popular music courses at a Scottish college, investigated the benefits of non-formal learning of rhythm for enhancing formal instrumental learning. Data collection involved an ethnographic study of student, staff and alumni engagement with rhythm learning in an extra-curricular percussion ensemble, utilising an interpretive case study based on participant observation, and interviews that elicited key aspects of the participants’ non-formal learning. The ensemble researched has been in existence for twenty-five years and runs in parallel to the formal instrumental curricula. It has adopted and adapted a Brazilian model of peer teaching and learning that has sustained as a community of participation. Findings suggest that participation in the non-formal ensemble has clearly enhanced students’ learning, regarding the formal context of their instrumental learning that is both assessed and certificated, whilst by contrast the non-formal ensemble’s activities are not. Instead, it features shared musical and extra-musical learning goals that involve performances, workshops in the community and active participation in non-formal learning practices. Further to this, findings show that active participation has engendered highly effective peer teaching and learning, as central to sustaining the ensemble’s effectiveness for rhythm learners; Resumo: O aprendizado musical não-formal tem crescido nos últimos dez anos, particularmente nas escolas secundárias do Reino Unido e na Holanda, onde músicos profissionais e músicos comunitários trouxeram habilidades de liderança musical para o ambiente educacional formal.

This qualitative, multiple methods case study concerns the effectiveness of Revitalising Education Participation and Learning in Conflict affected Areas-Peace Education Programme (REPLICA-PEP). There is currently limited evidence regarding the effectiveness of peace education programmes in the context of post-conflict formal schooling. This study therefore set out to explore the effectiveness of REPLICA-PEP and to gain insight into the reality of the current practice of peace education in schools in a post-conflict context in Northern Uganda. The school is one of the places where children learn values, attitudes and behaviour, schooling is often criticised for using symbolic violence to maintain and reinforce different forms of violence including physical violence. This study explores theoretical and practical aspects of peace education and key issues relevant to the effectiveness of peace education programmes, including the role and influence of formal schooling in a post-conflict context. A combination of qualitative methods (interviews, observation and documentary analysis) were employed to examine REPLICA-PEP effectiveness and its impact on pupils’ knowledge, attitudes, skills and behaviour. The results show that, although some traces of impact were found in pupils’ awareness of: the dangers of using violence; non-violent conflict resolution alternatives; and attitude change to non-violent conflict resolution, pupils did not develop empathy, self-control, competences and skills for non-violent conflict resolution. Interrogation of qualitative data about the REPLICA-PEP implementation process and activities in the schools have led to the generation of theoretically-informed and empirically-grounded recommendations which integrate and accommodate the nature of formal schooling in a post-conflict context and programme design features for improving the effectiveness of peace education programmes. It has also laid the ground for future research on what is possible in terms of strategies to facilitate and promote pupil peace building activities in post-conflict formal schooling contexts such as peace-related pupil voice, documentation and action.

Résumé :
This work is inserted in the Educational Politics and Management of the pos-graduate program on Education of the Uberlandia Federal University, and has as main subject the politics and practices of professional qualification, implemented in the last half of the decade of 1990 in Brazil. The related subject composes the discussion on the mutations of the world of the work and the qualification of the worker in the restructuring productive context. Its main objective is to analyze the proposals of the Qualification National Plan (PNQ), elaborated for the Ministry of the Work, Job and Income, in the daily activities of one of the entities executors, which is the the Center of Enterprise Excellency in Services - (CENEX), located in Uberlandia MG - Brazil, in the year of 2005. It is intended to understand the relation between education, work, employability, professional qualification in the productive reorganization and the process of the state reconfiguration, in the search to reach the considered objectives. It searched specifically to analyze and to qualify the materialization of the politics of qualification in the 1990 decade in Brazil and, specifically in the CENEX while entity executor of the PNQ in the year of 2005; as well as carrying through the crossing of the data of PLANTEQ-MG/CENEX 2005; of the evaluation reports of the UNITRABALHO PlanTeQ/2004, Final Managemental Report of Accompaniment of the Actions of PNQ/PLANTEQ-MG /2005 presented by the SEDESE. The methodologic procedures use the model of qualitative research. The analyses had been carried through the direct source of the data, of the descriptive nature of the processes and the importance of the direct participation of the citizens, that allows to the researcher to get a wide perception of the object to be investigated in its totality. The investigated entity is executor of the PNQ since 2004, it composes the not formal education system, and offers courses for the formation of the worker. They have as lifting the FADE - Foundation of Support to the Enterprise Development, that in turn is kept by the ACIUB (Commercial and Industrial Association of Uberlandia). In the field research, structuralized and half-structuralized, applied interviews are used for the systemize collection of the data, from a sample of involved professionals in the execution of the PNQ in the year of 2005 in Uberlandia, under the coordination of the SEDESE, as well as the referring documentary analysis to the execution of the PNQ in this period. The bases of this research is confirmed: do not exist direct correspondence between the formation in alternative qualification courses and the job, despite the significative financial transfer and a speech presenting as a natural condition of unemployment is about the lack of qualification, which transfers the responsibility for the individual to employ themselves. Thus, the egresses of the courses show that exactly with some carried through courses, continue dismissed. In such a way, it would empirical data it confirms to this estimated. Rethink of the governmental public politics of professional qualification becomes necessary.

Non-formal education has been attributed with many benefits for rural women who are unable to participate in formal schooling. However, little is known about the perspectives of non-formal education programs (NFEPs) from the lived experiences of females—especially in Nigerian Islamic conservative communities. To address this gap, this thesis explored multiple perspectives of NFEP from the lived experiences of females in a region with high rates of child marriage. Using a qualitative case study design, the data were collected through focus group discussions and interviews in two rural communities in northern Nigeria. Participants comprised two leaders from each community; three NFEP personnel; 28 females who had participated in a NFEP, and 24 females who had not participated in a NFEP (n=59). The findings provide unique insight that can guide the phenomenon of NFEPs for rural females in religiously conservative communities. The participants reported a need for literacy skills and economic independence and were generally quite positive about NFEPs in their communities. Most participants in NFEPs reported having increased knowledge, positive attitude and behaviours, improved ability to express themselves, partake in decision-making in the family, and to organise themselves for collective action—all of which resulted to empowering experiences. Also, most male partners (spouses), parents of the participants and male participants (community leaders) were supportive of the NFEP, supportive of women working outside the home and women earning money. The program participants reported that NFEP has been a positive influence on their self-worth, role in the society, future aspirations and dreams for their daughters because of their relative economic independence and the status they seem to enjoy within their communities. Female program non-participants support NFEP but many of them could not participate because their spouses and parents did not allow them. Thus, while many males supported the participation of women and girls in NFEP, gendered barriers still existed. In conclusion, females can be empowered in these conservative communities if it is done in a way that respects socio-cultural traditions.

Résumé :
Evaluation is a crucial issue in both learning and teaching processes, as it allows students to monitor their learning process and, at the same time, it means teachers can obtain information about the efficacy of their methods and tools. It has particularly important significance for adults in SL contexts, as the linguistic and communicative proficiency of the learner is fundamental in enabling further integration in the host society. For this reason, due to the increasing number of people migrating to Italy, many courses of Italian as a second language for adult immigrants have arisen. These language courses usually provide qualifications that might also have political consequences, such as the legal validity for acquiring a residence permit. The research project of this dissertation examines the evaluation procedures and techniques adopted in the Provincial Centre for Adult Education (Centro Provinciale per l'Istruzione degli Adulti - CPIA) in San Bonifacio, near the city of Verona. The aim of this dissertation is to explore how evaluation is conducted in practice and whether communication and sharing are effective in making the evaluation experience successful, and to investigate how judgments and error correction are perceived by students.

This thesis aims at analysing the blog/education binomial, extending its discussion and problematic nature to web technologies in the field of formal and informal educational methods. The teaching-learning question is selected as a guidance in the process under consideration and school is looked upon as the privileged field for research. This study places teaching and learning methods before blog and questions this new technique by examining it deeply in the afford to understand its potentiality in the formal and informal educational process. This study aims at putting into evidence possible advantages and problems arising from the application and planning possible innovations in the educational sphere. The research is based on two guiding lines: the theoretical-basic one referring to some background core topics (educational technologies, web, emerging methods, formal and informal education) and referring to the merits related to blog with its application to teaching; the empirical one based on a survey on the field aiming at bringing out and describing trends towards the use of blog in the Italian school environment.

This text is the result of a research conducted on the theme Environmental Education in the formal context. We discuss in it concepts of nature, environment and education, discoursing on some categories, through the historical-critical approach. We articulate a dialogue between official documents and the research subjects, considering the language used by teachers, coordinators and students, in their representations of Environmental Education, which are linked to their daily practices. Before all the legal safeguards (legislation, documents) that guide and ensure the development of environmental education in educational institutions, we studied the environmental education, specifically in elementary school (8th grade) in the Southwest region of Paraná, in the headquarter municipalities of the Regional Boards of Education: Francisco Beltrão, Dois Vizinhos and Pato Branco, in 2010, analyzing the objectives of formal Environmental Education, through the speech of the subjects that make up the school. We began this dissertation with a historic walk through the Renaissance - Centuries: fourteenth and fifteenth, placed in Europe - until the rise of modern science, understanding how nature was conceived and represented in this period. The art and writings of this time influenced the scientific observation and experimentation, and, directly, the representation of nature. In the field of education, echoed the Cartesian model of science, expressed directly in the pedagogical thinking of Comenius. This historical and epistemological recovery aims to understand the historical remnants of that period - including the fragmentation of science - and its close ties with the issues that permeate the formal Environmental Education. We chart the paths of Environmental Education, since its establishment until today, showing the important chronological milestones for affirmation of this educational field. We focus on the environmental movement, as well as the categories in which it settle its thoughts and criticisms. Introducing the meanings attributed by the research subjects for Environmental Education, from their enunciations, especially guided in discourse theory, proposed by Mikhail Bakhtin. We followed a dialogue between the official documents, presenting aspects related to National Curriculum Parameters, their creation, use and the constituted proposal from the Transversality. We stress the Basic Education Curriculum Guidelines of the State of Paraná, with emphasis on the Diversity Themed Books, and its notes for Environmental Education. We treat aspects of content and methodologies for Environmental Education, the prospects for learning in this field, based on theoretical concepts of Lev Semenovitch Vygotsky. We show how Environmental Education is valued by teachers, coordinators and students, pointing the wholesome aspects, diagnosing and highlighting the limits and possibilities of its implementation at the schools of the studied region. Among the main limits of Environmental Education, is its presentation and inclusion in the curriculum, who should work, how and when to work, also is the doubt whether or not environmental education shall be a discipline of the school curriculum. The research showed that the Environmental Education, held at the school, has not socio-cultural articulation, it has not been a vector of social change, it has contributed little to this, the way it presents itself and it happens at school

In the course of recent decades, the Supplementary Education or Non-Formal Education took important space in NGOs (Non Governental Organization) and in socio-educational works developed directly by the public power, with particular emphasis in the practices of Art-education, including many artistic languages aimed to occupy the opening intercalated public fundamental school activities. Such works happen, mainly, in the outskirts of urban centers, or even in the regions of slums in the center of the town. Most of this area is inhabited by a predominantly black population, migrant or a descendant of Northeast immigrants living in what Souza Martins would call contexts of perverse inclusion . It is in this scenario where Art-education takes place: a complex area of knowledge with many specificities, precisely because of its target audience and the geographical area where it develops. Art-education developed in the outskirt of urban area, what does it want? How does it act concerning issues dealing with perverse inclusion of this population, such as, racism, discrimination and the prejudice found in such places? In which way the art-educator deals with the issues related to cultural universe of this people (religious options, musical tastes and food, values, etc.) ? We´ve found, by observing the everyday spaces, where art-educational activities occur, as well as by the development of courses and workshops we offer about the theme, where a number of questions are involved in this actions and have impact on the performance of professionals in their daily. However, which critical benchmarks guide his action day to day? We must not forget that is in the Art that the human is recognized as a builder of self and that, despite the life and its hardships, the Art teaches to understand and develop alternatives for survival and the transformation of his reality

Thesis (PhD)--Stellenbosch University, 2015.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study explores the potential reciprocal growth in undergraduate peer-mentoring relationships in the context of a formal peer-mentoring programme at a first-year university residence from a dyadic relational perspective. The investigation adopted a case study research design to study four dyads from a relational point of view within the context of a formal peer-mentoring programme at a university residence. The study used purposive selection procedures to identify actively participating dyads that could contribute to providing a rich description of the research problem. The study was premised on the assumption that, as a reciprocal relationship, peer mentoring is an effective means of facilitating the transition from school to university, and that universities have a joint responsibility in this regard. At the end of the mentorship year, a semi-structured, in-depth interview covering both the psychosocial and academic issues related to their experiences was conducted from a relational perspective with each of the four dyads to harvest their perceptions and lived experiences as participants. Finally, the interviews were processed and subjected to monadic as well as dyadic analysis to develop an understanding of the internal dynamics of each mentoring dyad. The study addressed a number of lacunae, such as the paucity of theoretically underpinned research and mentoring theories in student-peer mentoring, by introducing into peer-mentoring research the triple theoretical framework of social constructionism (constructing meaning by acknowledging the value of a sense of social interdependence as opposed to individual independence), relational theory (acknowledging the reciprocal nature of the mentoring relationship rather than focussing on the single perspective of the mentor or mentee), and the principles of Ubuntu (an African cultural belief system stressing the value of relational interdependence for existence, the importance of family and extended family support, and spirituality). In exploring the theoretical challenges endemic in peer-mentoring research, the study examined role-model theory, attribution theory, attachment theory, and involvement and social integration theories to abstract and highlight elements pertinent to the field of peer-mentoring research. In addition, the study developed a multi-perspective development process for the selection of theories; a theoretical framework for the analysis and interpretation of the data using the computer program ATLAS.ti., as well as a dyadic process for analysing mentoring dyads both from a monadic and dyadic perspective. Finally, the study recontextualised and expanded the meaning of key concepts culled from the literature for use in future peer-mentorship research. Given the rich perspective this study provided on the reciprocal nature and dynamics of peer mentorship on the theoretical, conceptual and practical levels, the research has made a contribution to raising awareness of this crucial field, which could stem the relentless tide of costly attrition.

ABSTRACT: Informal learning takes place in our everyday lives and is our main source of content input. Therefore, it is important to take advantage of our daily experience, putting its potential into practice. Presently, technological tools such as podcasts make it easier for people to access, share, spread and assimilate information, within a society in which time and learning management are decisive. Podcasts have many strong points. They are mobile, flexible and easily shared, which makes them powerful learning tools. That is the point we have tried to make in this exploratory study. By creating podcasts to teach English as a Foreign Language and making them available online, we have tried to observe and understand the learning dynamics that took place when using these learning objects. Throughout this paper we have also described the project!s different stages and it!s impact, analysing the users! input and interaction, as well as their answers to an online questionnaire. Taking all these factors into consideration, we have come to conclusions as to the viability of using podcasts to effectively learn English.

Résumé :
CAPES
Haitians started to arrive in Brazil in large numbers since 2010; after a catastrophic earthquake hit their country of origin, leaving thousands homeless, injured and dead. However, as some authors reveal, the diaspora of Haitian people dates from a long time ago – as far as the mid-twentieth century – with social and cultural connotation. In regards to Paraná State, specifically the city of Pato Branco, arrival records go back to 2012, and the reasons are related to the work in poultry slaughterhouses. Gradually, actions towards the welcoming and the teaching of the Portuguese language (PL) were promoted, specially by religious institutions. Also, some educational institutions began to pay attention to their presence. Within the given scenario, the purpose of this dissertation was to analyze the institutional aspects and the experiences of teaching PL to Haitians in formal and non-formal contexts of Pato Branco. The study involved field work, documental and bibliographic research, in addition to some traits of ethnography. The locus for development were a State School and a religious institution in Pato Branco, located in the downtown area. At the aforementioned locations, interviews with managers, teachers and Haitian students were conducted and some LP classes were observed. The analysis of the material was qualitative, utilizing the Content Analysis. The data gathered shows that the pursuit for formal education from Haitians is due to the necessity of validating their foreign degrees; also, the teaching of PL which they experienced is part of the Brazilian curriculum, hence, restricted to Brazilian students, in order to develop their linguistic skills. In regards to the informal education, the interest from Haitians is due to the many welcoming actions which have contributed to the formation of the Movimento dos Haitianos de Pato Branco - MHAPA (Pato Branco’s Haitians Movement); the teaching experience of PL, in this case, relates to the acquisition of a new language, meeting their necessity.

Non-formal spaces are an important educational tool for the of the educational improvement process. Through the beginning technology information in all social scopes, the school has formally established a huge abyss pair which transposes to the relation for information reaching students every day over digital media and contact with the world through informal education. Making the most online content with the student's reality has become a requirement of modern educational trends, even advocated by PCN’s. Using the non-formal spaces endows the teaching and learning process of contextualization and interdisciplinary, reducing the reigning academicism the mere data recording, facts and formulas that the school requires content, which guarantees an education which the student will take a long time and certainly use to improve the social environment around them. The discussed spaces are UFG Planetarium and the PUC “Memorial do Cerrado”, important learning environments available to educators around the state of Goiás. The pedagogical proposal for visitation realizes the conflict among the remote past and the use of the Cerrado, important Brazilian heritage. With the theme “From the Big Bang to the present Cerrado: Interdisciplinarity in science teaching integrating non-formal spaces" content such as Astronomy, Evolution and Environment can be exploited for the teachers’ satisfaction and students in order to produce a scientific education which enables the student to give their opinions in community decisions concerning about the collective experience into the environment and making them in fact citizen.

This thesis is the result of a request from Vedogiovane s.c.s. to build a new type of educational service for boys and girls in the after-school sector that could strengthen methods, strategies and techniques for acquiring skills within the framework of the eight key competences for longlife learning using the method of social and cultural animation and the most recent discoveries regarding learning. To do this it was necessary to: 1) To bring out what professional practices are in place at Vedogiovane and what is the perceived effectiveness of their work on learning. 2) Compare the local context with the most important models for generating learning in formal, non-formal and informal contexts by referring to authors and experiences in the international sphere. 3) To construct a service hypothesis together with the animators, fruit of the reflective dialogue within the Thematic Research Laboratories. 4) to verify the efficacy of the model through an experimental phase in the organisation and the conditions for transferability to other services and persons in the organisation (phase interrupted due to COVID 19). The research path led to the definition of the guiding principles for the construction of the service, the protocol as well as the specific bibliography on animation and learning in animation. An original hypothesis on the epistemic dimension of social and cultural animation was also elaborated.

This work is the result of a set of experiences and reflections on teaching in kindergarten and, in particular, the issues raised by first experiences as a teacher and how these issues were being gradually answered from the experience in a school . Guided by these experiences and studies of Oliveira-Formosinho (2002) on the training of kindergarten teachers in the school context, among others as: Barreto, Kuhlmann Jr. (1998), Vasconcelos et. al. (2000); N?voa (1992, 1995), Moita (1995), Freire (1996), Tardif (2002, 2009) Kramer (2005) and Hargreaves, Fullan (2000), built as study questions: what situations become in the context of professional training at an institution of early childhood education? Which subjects who took part? How involved? From this perspective the goal of our work is a: to investigate, from the perspective of teachers a public kindergarten, situations of professional interaction that become the context of teacher education. The research took the principles of qualitative approach and an intrinsic case study (STAKE, 1998), whose locus was a Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education, so defined by their peculiarities for training faculty in the context of practice. We built the data with a group of nine teachers CMEI this by conducting a questionnaire, interviews and document analysis. Data analysis, guided by the principles of content analysis, allowed to note that beyond the initial training and personnel, the school context contributes to its fundamental training for teachers of kindergarten, whereas their specificities. We conclude by confirming that systematic and unsystematic in situations developed in the school routine, interaction with peers and other members of the school, the teachers take ownership of specific knowledge specific to teaching in kindergarten

This theme of this study is the social participation of babies in the daily practices in day care contexts. The research is based on the questioning of the rights of children, which ages range between zero and five years, affirmed by the National Curriculum Guidelines for Early Childhood Education, highlighting the right to participate in daily practices and their constructions. Since this aspect is relevant to learning and the integral development of children, it is necessary to understand how this social participation occurs, especially in day-care contexts. A literature survey shows that infants have been invisibilized for a long time in society, including in the educational field. Therefore, the main goal of the study was to analyze the forms of social participation of babies in the daily practices that they experience in day care, as well as t teachersâ conceptions on such forms of participation. In an interlocution with socio-interactionist perspectives, were used as the main theoretical framework the theories of Vygotsky, Wallon and the field of Pedagogy-in-Participation. This paper is a qualitative research characterized as a case study, carried out in a day care center in CearÃ. Twelve babies, with ages between 12 and 18 months, and their three teachers were part of this study. The data were constructed during the observations and videotapings of the daily practices and interviews with the teachers. A field diary, a digital camera and a voice recorder were used to keep record of these data. The analyzes revealed, among other aspects, that the daily practices of the institution were characterized by the dissociation between the actions of caring and educating, transmissivity of knowledge, restriction and, at the same time, by the invisibility of the social participation of the babies. The babies, with all their potentialities, overcame these practices and demonstrated desire and abilities to participate in the daily practices that they lived in the day-care center, by means of their imitative actions, conflicts with the peers and the construction of friendship relations. On the other hand, their learning and development were limited by the teaching practices and the conceptions that forms of social participation occur only during the so-called pedagogical activities, which aimed to develop aspects of cognitive development. Based on the data analysis, the study concludes and highlights the importance of a greater visibility to the different forms that babies have to participate in the daily practices. It also demonstrates the need of creating greater opportunities of these forms of participation, which should have intentionality and pedagogical planning and should occur during the whole period in which the babies are in the institution. Therefore, there is an urgent need for greater visibility of infants in both public and educational policies and in the pedagogies of Early Childhood Education. Therefore, it is really important to increase financial investments for Child Education Institutions and to assure a solid and specific continuing education for teachers who work directly with infants. Thence, the day care center may be able to build a context of respect and the participation of babies, prevailing their rights, specificities, knowledge, actions, interests, curiosities and potentialities.

Résumé :
CAPES
Over the last decade, public policies for science and technology popularization have been institutionalized in Brazil. However, there are a limited number of studies on the methodologies used and the contents developed. In this context, the central goal of this thesis is to examine the scientific popularization on nanotechnology in different media that respond to interests and values of different social groups, and to investigate, through a comparative analysis, the characteristics of the science popularization models utilized by these media, the contents addressed and those absent, and their educative function. The methodological approach consists of a content analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, based on the Social Studies of Science and Technology, particularly the Latin American strands, and the studies on non-formal education. The thesis analyzes the Science sections of the open television program Bom Dia Brasil and the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo produced during the period 2008-2010, and a non-aleatory 20% sample of the webTV interview show Nanotecnologia do Avesso exhibited during 2009-2010. The comparative analysis showed that definitions of nanotechnology considerably vary among the media, depending on who produced them and the circumstances that led to their enunciation and stabilization. In Bom Dia Brasil and Folha de S. Paulo the concept of nanotechnology emphasizes the material artifact, providing scarce information on its socio-technical configuration, while the latter aspect is widely addressed by the program Nanotecnologia do Avesso. All the media describe the new properties and functions of the matter in the nanoscale, but differ in the way they do it, according to the interests of the relevant actors represented, some highlighting the potential for innovation that stems from such properties; other stressing the new risks they entail. Bom Dia Brasil and Folha de S. Paulo emphasize the promises and benefits of these new properties and functionalities, such as more efficient products that will open up new markets, advances in health research and quality of life, and environmental preservation. Such visions reproduce discourses based on linear models that stress the neutrality, inexorability and continuous progress of science and technology. In Nanotecnologia do Avesso is preeminent the discussion on potential risks and social, legal and ethical implications of nanotechnology, and the demand for the application of the precautionary principle and mandatory regulation. The conclusion of the thesis is that science popularization on nanotechnology is an educational process full of tensions and polarizations that transcends its specificity of symbolic practice and is articulated to the broader social and productive practice, sometimes approaching, sometimes deviating from the sociotechnical citizenship perspective, depending on the popularization models that are used and the social groups that are represented.

Résumé :
The purposes of this study were to explore the preference of the Chinese undergraduate music majors (N = 27) for Chinese Xi-Qu and Western opera audiovisual examples, the reasons for preference, influence of familiarity on preference, and the relationship between preference ratings and the emotions as detected by FaceReader. The mixed research method, convergent parallel design, was used to explore this topic in depth. As Xi-Qu and opera integrate multiple art forms, eight audiovisual examples (Xi-Qu, n = 4, opera, n = 4) were selected as the stimuli to show the characteristics of the two genres. The participants watched the audiovisual examples individually and responded to a questionnaire meanwhile their facial expressions were recorded for FaceReader analysis. The semi-structured interviews were administered to collect qualitative data pertaining to participants’ general opinions about the musical examples, familiarity, reasons for preference, and the emotions encompassing when watching the musical examples. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data obtained from the questionnaire. The facial expressions video files were analyzed by FaceReader. The qualitative data obtained from interviews were coded to find themes. The quantitative findings suggested that the operatic examples received higher mean preference ratings than the Xi-Qu examples. The top three preferred examples were all operatic pieces while the three least preferred examples were Xi-Qu pieces. Results of one-way ANOVA showed that the difference among the preference mean ratings showed the statistical significance, F (7, 208) = 14.15, p < .01. The operatic examples also received higher familiarity ratings than Xi-Qu examples. The difference among the familiarity mean ratings also showed the statistical significance, F (7, 208) = 2.99, p < .01. The preference and familiarity ratings showed a modest but statistically significant relationship (r = .45, p < .01). A statistically significant relationship was found between the preference ratings and tempo (r =. 23, < . 01). Furthermore, singing was always among the top three most liked elements in the operatic examples, but singing was always among the top three most disliked elements in the four Xi-Qu examples despite that singing was also among the top three liked elements in two Xi-Qu examples. Numerical FaceReader results showed a strong negative relationship between “angry” and preference (rho = -.976, p < .01). The moderate relationship was found between “sums of negative emotions” and preference (rho = .741, p < .05). No statistically significant relationship was found between valence and preference and between arousal and preference. The results of temporal FaceReader analysis showed that the participants’ emotional response to the audiovisual examples changed with the unfolding visual and audio information. The qualitative analysis revealed a model of Xi-Qu and opera preference. The model contained the factors influencing preference for Xi-Qu and opera, including personal factors, cultural and environmental factors, visual factors, musical factors, and musical response. Formal voice training was the most reliable indicator of preference for operatic examples. Familiarity gained through guided listening instead of random repetition was positively related preference for Xi-Qu examples. The unexpected findings were the influence of religion and static perspective on preference for music. Implications and recommendations were discussed, and the suggestions for future research were included.

This research identifies the conceptions of the teachers who visited the Observatório Didático de Astronomia "Lionel José Andriatto", Unesp - Bauru, with their students. Their impression about their visitation in non-formal spaces of teaching are analyzed in the light of teaching knowledge, seeking subsidies for a possible structuring of a future program directed in the continuous training of teachers. The concern with the theme is justified by the demerit in which non-formal spaces have been used, without the proper exploitation of all its potentialities for teaching and poor integration of these spaces with the classroom. As the Observatory under study was a non-formal space much sought out by teachers, it raised questions about how it would be used for teaching astronomy. The qualitative study is guided by a bibliographical survey of the area of Astronomy Education in non-formal spaces and the analysis of interviews of visiting professors. The conceptions of these teachers about the school visits were interpreted following the principles of the Content Analysis, whose results point to a concept of a school visit as a limited extracurricular activity and restricted to the day of the visit, besides highlighting some difficulties in the teaching of astronomy. The results also reveal that these spaces are not used in the initial and continued formation of teachers nor is there an approach of implementing theoretical-methodological foundations aimed for this objective. These results contribute to a visitation based only on common sense. Based on teachers' conceptions of school visits, difficulties in teaching astronomy and results of researches in Science Teaching, the conclusions of this study provide support for the structuring of a continuing education program, aiming at a change of attitude in pedagogical practice of teachers.

This research aims to understand the teacher identity construction process of the Early Childhood Education teachers and the possibilities of reconstruction of that identity, in order to understand the way the political and social changes in the area have affected the social representations of teacher s professional identity. To reach that goal, we established the target of investigating which social representations the Early Childhood Education teachers have built on the teaching profession and what are the possibilities of reconstruction of this identity, and we also seek to understand the role of public policies, the basic training and the practical conditions of that profession in these representations. The work is inserted into the defense of Early Childhood Education and the struggle for the social valorization of its status as well as its professionals that is the justification that runs through all this work. The methodology we chose is based on the qualitative approach, producing empirical materials, data collection through semi-structured interviews and classroom observation. Therefore, we were mainly guided by the theoretical concepts of the Theory of Social Representations by Serge Moscovici, also using as theoretical basis the concepts derived from the historical-cultural psychology and historical-critical pedagogy. We could understand that the teachers we have approached show some evidences of a reconstruction of the teacher identity, from a representation of the profession as priesthood and characterized by enjoying children to a profession characterized by pedagogical knowledge and the teacher's intention in the teachinglearning process, however, we found that the practical environment work, with regard to the requirements directed to the teacher along with the social devaluation of this function, are presented as an impediment to this new representation, so it cannot be assumed in the job routine.

This study was designed with two goals in mind. The first goal was to describe the formal and practical knowledge of intensive reading intervention teachers related to beginning reading instruction with at-risk first graders. A second goal was to understand any potential relationships between intensive reading teachers' practical knowledge and formal knowledge. These two goals framed the study's three research questions. To answer these three questions, the study was conducted in two phases. Phase one included 32 participants, all of whom worked in the role of a K-2 intensive reading intervention teacher. Each of these 32 participants completed a background questionnaire and a paper/pencil Teacher Knowledge Assessment (TKA). The TKA measured participants' formal knowledge of beginning reading concepts. Participants' scores on the TKA were then rank-ordered from lowest to highest to help guide the selection of phase two participants. Eight teachers in all participated in phase two of the study dedicated to the study of teachers' practical knowledge of reading. Participants' practical knowledge of reading was explored through three activities including a semi-structured interview, a concept-mapping activity and a videotaped reading lesson. Data analysis revealed several important findings. Intensive reading intervention teachers in this study's sample differed in their formal knowledge of reading, measured by the TKA, and in their practical knowledge of reading, explored through interviews, concept-maps and reading lessons. The TKA revealed that study participants' held more formal knowledge of concepts related to phonology and phonics and less formal knowledge of concepts related to morphology and syllable types. Related to practical knowledge, data analysis revealed that the teachers in this sample differed in their knowledge of beginning reading with subject-matter knowledge accounting for most of the differences. These gaps in subject-matter knowledge also impacted this sample of teachers' use of instructional strategies and purposes of instruction. Data analysis also revealed insight into the relationships between this sample of teachers' formal and practical reading knowledge. In this sample, intensive reading intervention teachers with more formal knowledge of reading concepts as measured on the TKA demonstrated more evidence of these concepts within their instruction provided to at-risk first grade readers. The participants in this sample who had less formal knowledge of beginning reading as measured by the TKA demonstrated less evidence of these concepts within their instruction provided to at-risk first grade readers. Participants with less formal knowledge did accurately calibrate their knowledge of the concepts tested on the TKA but did not equate the lower scores to their practical knowledge and overall teaching efficacy. The findings from this study added several important contributions to the literature on teacher knowledge and beginning reading instruction. First, the study was unique in its focus on intensive reading intervention teachers, thus contributing new findings related to a specialized group of teachers. Secondly, this study contributed descriptions of teachers' practical knowledge with regards to beginning reading instruction. These descriptions are relatively absent in the current literature on teacher knowledge. Thirdly, the results from this study supported earlier findings in favor of a specialized body of subject-matter knowledge, especially related to beginning reading skills and concepts. Finally, the results contributed insight into the relationships between teachers' formal reading knowledge and practical reading knowledge.

Criticism done to the undergraduate training process of the psychologist in Brazil raised debates known as "dilemmas of training". In recent years the classic training model, based on the Minimum Curriculum has undergone a series of changes after the National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN), modifying the context of courses. Thus, this paper aimed to investigate, in a post- DCN context how undergraduate courses in Psychology in Brazil have been dealing with the dilemmas of training. So, we decided to analyze the Course Pedagogical Projects (CPPs) of Psychology in the country. Forty CPPs, selected by region, academic organization and legal status were collected. The data was grouped into three blocks of discussions: theoretical, philosophical and pedagogical foundations; curriculum emphases and disciplines; and professional practices. The results were grouped into four sets of dilemmas: a) ethical and political; b) theoreticalepistemological; c) professional practice of the psychologist and d) academic-scientific. Courses claim a socially committed, generalist, pluralistic training, focusing on research, non-dissociation of teaching-research-extension, interdisciplinary training and defending a vision of man and of critical and reflective and non-individualistic psychology. The curriculum keeps the almost exclusive teaching of the classical areas of traditional fields of applied Psychology. Training is content based. The clinic is hegemonic, both in theory and in application fields. The historical debate is scarce and themes linked to the Brazilian reality are missing, despite having social policies present in the curricula. Currently, DCNs have a much greater impact on courses due to the influence of the control agencies, fruit of current educational policy, and the result is felt in the homogenization of curriculum discourses
A forma??o ? conteudista.

Social mobilization around environmental and development issues (EDIs) characterizes contemporary human societies. This type of mobilization constitutes a turning point in political life in the age of the anthropocene. In practice, environmental mobilizations are repertoires for informal political education through the learning they develop among the actors involved.Nowadays, international and national educational policy scenes are oriented towards the institutionalization of these environmental mobilizations in non-formal education pedagogical devices or in formal education curricula. The political, in educational content involving EDIs, manifests itself in potentialities for democratic socialization. The latter integrates cognitive socialization (disciplinary and critical) and political socialization. Thus, the political becomes a new object of research in curriculum didactics. This object is characterized by its onto-epistemological thickness or depth including the political potential of the EDIs and their political/anti-political tendency as "underlying strata" of political learning and their potential for democratic socialization..The first case study, which of the contents of education for sustainable development goals (SDG 2030), has the interest of exemplifying the inflection of the political in non-formal education. This case shows a diversity of themes with political and anti-political tendencies, generating political potential and potentialities for socialization rooted in important political learning. This seems to be related to the relaxation of a neutralizing pressure that prevails at the international political level. The second case study, which of the Tunisian curriculum, is interesting to exemplify the inflection of the political in formal education and more precisely in the national curriculum of a country in democratic transition. This case shows a relatively wide diversity of EDIs themes with an anti-political tendency. This diversity generates relatively high political and socialization potential in the prescribed undergraduate curriculum developed in 2015 compared to the prescribed curriculum developed in 2009 and the produced curriculum on the one hand and the secondary education curriculum on the other. This also seems to be related to the relaxation of pressure to neutralize the political in post-2011 Tunisia. In conclusion, this realistic approach, which assumes that the potentialities for democratic socialization in educational content involving EDIs are generated through a structuring "onto-epistemological thickness" of the political in these contents, opens the way for an emancipatory education for the political, which constitutes its critical dimension

Résumé :
This study explores the professional development strategies of digital content professionals in Australian micro businesses. This thesis presents the argument that as these professionals are working in cutting edge creative fields where digital technology drives ongoing change, formal education experiences may be less important than for other professionals, and that specific types of online and face-to-face socially mediated informal learning strategies may be critical to currency. This thesis documents the findings of a broad survey of industry professionals' learning needs and development strategies, in conjunction with rich data from in-depth interviews and social network analyses.

The aim of our research was to explore the implications related to the use of Free Virtual Educational Materials in the context of formal teaching and learning Italian as FL/SL. The implications were dealt as Problems of Teaching (ORTALE, 2010) and the term use was considered according to two aspects: use in presential classrooms and production. The hypothesis was that the use of Free Virtual Educational Materials, in the context of formal teaching and learning Italian as FL/SL, triggers a series of observable and specific implications, which can be defined in terms of Problems of Teaching due to its peculiar nature, that is, being a free educational material. The methodology adopted here was qualitative, both constructivist and interpretativist. The Problems of Teaching were identified through the analysis of the Reports of Problems of Teaching (ORTALE, 2010). The analyses were based on the methodology of teacher education, supported by the idea of Problem-Based Learning (PBL), explained in Ortale (2010), and the techniques and procedures of the Grounded Theory, according to Strauss e Corbin (2008). The Problems of Teaching related to the use were investigated in two undergraduate subjects of Italian Language offered by the College of Arts in a public university in São Paulo state. The Problems of Teaching related to the production were researched in the context of two editions of the training course for teachers of Italian Language in-service and pre-service, taught at two Brazilian public universities one in Santa Catarina state and the other in São Paulo state. We have found the total of 11 (eleven) Problems of Teaching 7 (seven) related to the aspect of production of Free Virtual Educational Materials and 4 (four) related to the aspect of its use. We have noticed through our analysis, the prominence of two factors associated to the Problems of Teaching which were found in the research: the beliefs regarding Free Virtual Educational Materials and the demand to develop the competences related to the free and virtual aspects of this sort of material. We concluded that the Problems of Teaching identified here are not specific but are typical of educational materials that are virtual and free

The follow work have as objective to analyze the process of insertion of low income residents of Rio de Janeiro communities in the formal labor market, students and egresses from the Professional Education course offered in the SESI Citizenship Program (PSC) ambit, established by the Rio de Janeiro Industry Federation (FIRJAN), in august 12, 2010, through the cooperation agreement with the Rio de Janeiro State Government. The objective of the program is to take social projects to the communities with Pacifying Police Unity (UPP); among they, educational projects with free offer of Professional Qualification courses, polished in Decree no. 6.635, November 5, 2008. Therefore, this study seeks to propose enterprises in the way to make easy the entry and the remaining of those people in the formal labor market and the generation of labor and income. The experience of the author with insertion process of students and egresses from the Professional Education courses offered by the SESI Citizenship Program signs that the difficulties faced by the Rio de Janeiro communities' residents are related with the historical conditions, social, economical and cultural. In face of this set of problems, we adopted the follow hypothesis: the behavior competences of the residents of Rio de Janeiro communities clashes with your insertion in the formal labor market. In this prospect, the focus of the investigation was to analyze the competences observed by the human resources professionals that interfere in the entry and remaining of those egresses in the companies. We adopted the concept of competencies knew as Joel Souza Dutra (2001), well as by some Administration theorists, that define it as a ensemble of knowledge, abilities and attitude necessaries for the development of the attributions and responsibilities of the person. The empiric cut was composed by ten small, medium and large companies based in the Metropolitan Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The methodological approach includes field research based in semi-structured interview data, being incorporated the verbal relate analysis technic. We formulated a questionnaire for the semi-directed interview execution with human resources professionals and principals of companies that we were allowed to identify the factors that interfere in the entry of those people in the formal labor market. The conclusions point difficulties of insertion and remaining of residents of Rio de Janeiro communities in the formal labor market by aspects related with the basic educational formation, especially the behavior competences developed in the sociocultural context that they are inserted, which are found disconnected with the behavior competences demanded by the formal labor market. The relevance of the research consist in the possibility of subsidize the formulation of public policies of the Education and of the Labor, intended to the professional formation of the low income residents of the Rio de Janeiro communities for the generation of labor and inco

The present research deals with the scholar trajectory of homeless people who in the moment are being sheltered by Vida Nueva Association, located in Palhoça town (SC). The association is a religious community which protects men who live in situation of risk. Besides a place to live, those men receive medical and psychological treatment as well as religious orientation. The meaning of schooling in the life of those men and also the main facts and events that they have experienced on the streets were investigated. Places for socialization as well as the violence they have suffered while living on the streets were identified in order to systematize their scholar trajectory and to know the meaning of the learning process for them. This is an ethnographic research. As a psychologist, I could follow those men s case, since the second semester of 2007 and during 2008, in therapeutic activities such as workshops and meetings as ways for reintegration in society. The group was composed of three men between 30 and 50 years old. They were born in the fifties and sixties in the twenty century. In this scenery, I have tried to state those men s process of schooling and also their trajectory. The preference for homeless trajectory was because their lives were marked by displacements and passages in institutions and also because the streets were a possibility for living and housing. Considering these situations of violence, school is seeing as a place were those people are not welcome. The streets have a favorable dynamics for freedom, offering many possibilities for conviviality and learning
Nesse cenário, procurei compreender o percurso escolar dessas pessoas.

Kindergarten teachers training gains the spotlight with the passing of Law number 9.394/96 (Guidelines and Basis Law) that defines this segment as the initial step of basic education, with pedagogical function. In this spectrum, the discussion about teacher training unravels to ensure social quality to education as well as the teacher s specificities towards child singularities. Adding to that, the growing propagation of Pedagogy in an undergraduate level, given that such course has been continually transformed by the National Curriculum Guidelines for Pedagogy (2006), highlighting the addition of curriculum components that are specific to upbringing. The complex debate circa kindergarten teachers training has advancements and hardships that need to be unveiled in order to improve both formation and social quality of education in the 0- 5 years old range. This investigation inserts itself in said context and aims to analyze which knowledge, specific to kindergarten teaching are constructed, according to undergraduate trainees, in Pedagogy s supervised internship. The study was conducted alongside the discipline: Supervised Internship in Child Education ministered by the Advanced Campus of Rio Grande do Norte s State University s in the municipality of Patu-RN (CAP-UERN-Patu) and was conducted through 2012 by accompanying four undergraduate interns. We first assumed that the development of teaching knowledge is a complex process of appropriation of cultural-social practices and is symbolically mediated by interactions that occur in the formation context, and the supervised internship can be understood as a space for the articulation and enlargement of theoretical and practical knowledge, directly related to the specificities of child education. The theoretical-methodological foundation was based upon the historiccultural approach of L. S. Vygotsky and M. Bakhtin s dialogism on human sciences research, as well as his postulates on learning and developmental processes, conceived as both essentially social and discursive. The investigation approached the principles of the qualitative perspective and to the construction and analysis of data, involved documental analysis and, specially, semi-structured interviews, both individual and collective, whose fundamental premise was the production-comprehension of meanings in a dialogical perspective. The participants texts/speeches produced a synthesis that points to the occurrence, within the supervised internship at CAP/UERN, of internalization/appropriation processes and, as such, of formulation of meanings that are pertinent to child education: child, childhood, kindergarten and teacher signification and this stage s specific teaching knowledge. It stood out that the internship, alongside other curriculum components, is, in fact, one of the primeval formation environment for the teachers, in which the interns interact with their colleagues, supervisor professor, collaborator professor, and of course, the children to construct their erudition. Such interactions allow the undergraduate interns to develop attitudes and procedures to reflect on what they know, what they ve done and what they can achieve. We have concluded that the undergraduate internship can constitute itself as an articulatorconsolidator environment in the future teacher s formation process and, since well oriented, can provide the effective initiation, not only to the practice, but to the praxis as a movement of non dissociability between theory and practice
