Résumé :
Abstract The aim of this paper is to evaluate the sustainability of a novel internet-based system for food logistics and to create a framework for more detailed future sustainability assessments. Digitalization enables food shopping via the internet and food delivery from producers to consumers using only a single terminal. The sustainability of different food logistic options was evaluated through a literature review and life cycle assessment. Given the frame of reference, there is a gap in the knowledge on the sustainability of food logistics. In addition, the current literature does not recognize a novel internet-based system for food logistics, as the literature has focused on evaluating the internet-based food logistics of traditional actors. The life cycle assessment results show that new food logistic options could reduce GHG emissions, but various factors affect the magnitude of the reductions. We also present a systematic approach to which factors should be included in future research. This paper creates a base for more detailed future food logistic sustainability assessments.

Quality of game is more and more important for customers. How can we supply customers with good quality meat? Logistics process of meet of wild animals is a special field of foodstuff. We use it for supply chains, buy and sell products, for information and our knowledge. I try to understand the logistic methodology for a special process. In agri-business sector we can speak, talk a lot about necessity of well organized networks, chains but there are not enough experts, workers organizing and doing this. You can find many parts of business activities using logistics at acceptable level and quality, but some area is not written in scientific style. In my paper I would like to speak about a very special segment of agri-business sector, which is game in logistics process. I mention some information about quality and food safety aspects of it.

How to understand logistics in agro-food business? Logistic activities considerably changed in the last few years. The original aim of satisfying quantity needs has been followed by the logistic activity which meets the market's requirements, aims at satisfying the individual needs instead of standardized solutions, maximal the additional values, and finally, which gives a complex service. You can find special process of it in agriculture and food industry. These together mean a significant challenge for this profession. In our paper we try to understand methodology of logistics in agro-food business.

Résumé :
The aim of the Paper is to identify the types of short food supply chains (SFSCs), their spread today, and to demonstrate the advantages or disadvantages they provide, especially the logistical problems and solutions that can be identified in the chain. In order to achieve this goal, we carried out a review of international and Hungarian literature sources and secondary data. It can be stated that SFSCs can be a viable alternative to conventional supply chains pursuing a global distribution strategy. Establishing a restricted geographic range of supply provides several benefits to local producers, consumers and society. However, there are serious concerns about logistical costs and associated emissions. To overcome this, there is a need for compromises. The practical example we present shows that the use of conventional „less short” sales channels in the distribution mix is reasonable even in the case of local foods.

Résumé :
The functional food market is one of the fastest growing segments of the global food industry. The aims of this study were to understand the association of demographic characteristics and food choice motives (FCMs) with (a) attitudes toward functional foods and (b) consumption of functional foods in Australian emerging adults. Data were collected through a paper-based and online questionnaire completed by 370 young adults aged between 17 and 29 years. A binomial logistic regression was used to determine the association between demographic characteristics and FCMs with attitudes towards functional foods. The logistic regression model was statistically significant at χ2(11) = 48.310 (p < 0.001) and explained 18.1% of the variance in attitude towards functional food. Of the several predictors, only the FCMs natural content and weight control were statistically significant. A binomial logistic regression was also used to determine the association between demographic characteristics and FCMs with the consumption of functional foods. The logistic regression model was statistically significant at χ2(9) = 37.499 (p < 0.001) and explained 14.1% of the variance in functional food consumption. Of the eight predictors, three were statistically significant: living situation, natural content and health. Findings highlight that when targeting emerging adults, functional food companies could benefit from promoting the natural and health properties of their products. Furthermore, consumption can be increased by targeting the parents of emerging adults and by designing functional foods that attract emerging adults interested in controlling weight.

Résumé :
Garut has many famous traditional foods. These traditional foods continue to exist despite the changing times and changes in people's consumption patterns. Consumers' preferences for traditional foods such as dodol, skin crackers, wajit, rengginang, and processed bananas thoughted to reflect the various patterns of demand for these traditional foods. This study aims to analyze the effect of price, income, education, taste, and promotion as people's preferences for traditional Garut food and analyze people's demand for traditional Garut food, using primary data with a sample of 100 respondents determined based on accidental sampling. The analysis used was logistic regression and the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS). This research offers novelty in the form of promotional variables, and demand analysis through the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) approach analyzes the demand for traditional Garut food. The study results are (1) Price has a significant positive effect on people's preferences for traditional food. Income and education do not affect people's preferences for traditional food. Food taste and promotion have a significant positive effect on people's preferences for traditional food. (2) The highest demand for traditional food is dodol. The price changes have not influenced the demand for traditional food or inelastic elasticity. The price elasticity itself is positive inelastic, while most of the cross elasticity is positive, which means that traditional foods replace one another (substitutions).

Résumé :
The dynamic behavior of tri-trophic food chains consisting of resources, prey, predator and top-predator is dealt with. We compare a formulation whereby the prey growth is logistic, with a mass balance formulation. In the case of the mass balance formulation both the linear and the hyperbolic functional response are discussed. The consequences of the different formulations on the dynamics of a microbial food chain in chemostat situation are described. Bifurcation diagrams for the nonlinear dynamic systems are given. When the prey grows logistically there is no coexistence of the three species for biologically realistic parameter values for a microbial food chain. The same holds for the mass balance equations with a linear functional response for the prey. For a hyperbolic functional response, however, there is a stable equilibrium for the whole food chain in a rather large region of the parameter space. Furthermore, this model shows more complex dynamic behaviors; besides point attractors, limit cycles and chaotic attractors.

Résumé :
One of the main conditions for improving the overall competitiveness of the country is the formation of its sustainable logistic potential, since logistics is responsible for promoting the country’s products, both in the domestic and foreign markets. This is also characteristic for agricultural companies of the main countries of agricultural production in the world, which need to manage their logistic business processes effectively. The business processes of logistics sphere include the processes of warehousing, transportation and further distribution of agricultural products between the entities of the agrarian market (warehousing, traders, wholesale and retail trade network, consumers) at the national, as well as international level. Internationalization of agricultural production includes the formation of cooperative industrial relations in the agrarian sphere between the countries in the chain of “production, processing and marketing”, and the management of business processes in the logistics sphere. The latter is characterized by the business process management of the warehousing, transport, distribution areas at the national and international levels and food safety, which represents increasing demand for food in many countries of the world. These are some of the main signs of sustainable logistic development at the national and international levels. A methodical approach to assessing the logistic potential of the main countries of agricultural production in the world is improved; this method is characterized by a set of competitive elements and includes the assessment of logistics management of countries by blocks: product safety, internationalization of production and logistics, management of business processes. The result of this improved method of assessing the logistic potential of the world countries is a developed criterial basis, which allows making effective managerial decisions at the interstate and state levels regarding the logistic development of agrarian productions.

Résumé :
National and international surveys show that people still do not have appropriate knowledge of and attitude to food safety. Therefore more and more countries organize educational courses to improve skills and knowledge regarding food safety. In Hungary the National Curriculum 2012 contains the program for food safety education. The aim of our survey was investigation about knowledge and attitude of primary and secondary school students towards food safety. The questions, according to international surveys, fell into 5 categories: personal hygiene, keeping food at safe temperatures, adequate cooking, avoidance of cross-contamination, and safe source of foods. Statistical evaluation was done using SPSS 20 software. Significant differences were evaluated by logistic regression, Chi square test, and crossing table analysis. Results showed that there was no significant difference among primary school students regarding gender or residence (village or town) in knowledge of food safety. Their attitudes showed more significant divergence. Logistic regression investigation has showed that there was a good correlation between knowledge and attitude of personal and kitchen hygiene. In conclusion, our students have presented more or less the same results as the others from international questionnaires. Even though, we need to improve knowledge and skill in food safety.

Résumé :
Abstract Objectives The present study aims to explore the eating and food literacy behaviours of college students in Lebanon and to examine their associations with food insecurity (FI). Methods An online survey was administered among college students enrolled in public and private universities in Lebanon. FI was assessed using the Food and Drug Administration (FAO) eight-item Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES), previously validated and used in this context. The eating and food literacy behaviors of college students were assessed using the Eating and Food Literacy Behaviors (EFLBQ) tool. Multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to investigate the associations of food literacy behaviors with FI. Results FI was reported among 39% of study participants. Approximately half of college students in the study sample reported that they “never” or “seldom” ate a balanced diet (55.6%) and consumed healthy food (47.7%). Less frequent food literacy behaviors reported among college students included: “select healthy foods “(37.5%)”, and” plan what I will eat” (33.2%). However, most college students do “often” or “always” eat foods convenient to them (82.9%) and prepare food made quickly (71.9%). Significant differences were observed in several food literacy behaviors between food secure and insecure students. For instance, food insecure students less frequently buy foods that are healthy (p < 0.001), select healthy foods (p = 0.004), cook healthy foods (p = 0.020) and choose nutritionally balanced meals (p < 0.001) compared to food secure ones. Multiple logistic regression analyses showed that behaviors related to nutrition and food preparation were all statistically independently associated with FI. Food insecure participants were significantly less likely to “choose nutritionally balanced meals (OR = 2.10, 95% CI:1.45,3.03), “read nutrition information before” (OR = 1.93, 95% CI:1.31,2.84), or “buy foods that are healthy” (OR = 1.87, 95% CI:1.26,2.78). In terms of food preparation, food insecure participants were 1.85 times more likely to report that they “never” or “seldom” accurately measure dry food ingredients when preparing food (OR = 1.85, 95% CI:1.30,2.64). Conclusions Findings highlight the need for nutrition education interventions to improve food literacy and alleviate FI among college students in Lebanon. Résumé :
Food waste contributes to adverse environmental and economic outcomes, and substantial food waste occurs at the household level in the US. This study explored perceived household food waste changes during the COVID-19 pandemic and related factors. A total of 946 survey responses from primary household food purchasers were analyzed. Demographic, COVID-19-related household change, and household food waste data were collected in October 2020. Wilcoxon signed-rank was used to assess differences in perceived food waste. A hierarchical binomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine whether COVID-19-related lifestyle disruptions and food-related behavior changes increased the likelihood of household food waste. A binomial logistic regression was conducted to explore the contribution of different food groups to the likelihood of increased food waste. Perceived food waste, assessed as the estimated percent of food wasted, decreased significantly during the pandemic (z = −7.47, p < 0.001). Food stockpiling was identified as a predictor of increased overall food waste during the pandemic, and wasting fresh vegetables and frozen foods increased the odds of increased food waste. The results indicate the need to provide education and resources related to food stockpiling and the management of specific food groups during periods of disruption to reduce food waste.

Résumé :
Abstract Effective sale of products is one of the main directions of increasing the financial stability of enterprises in the agro-industrial complex. The use of a logistic approach implies a change in the existing situation at the enterprises of the agro-industrial complex, the introduction of new technologies in order to reduce the costs of commodity movement, and the coordination of interaction between participants in the logistics system. It is necessary to take into account the specifics of the food market more fully, consider the logistics system in conditions when a large number of economically independent market entities enter the market. The paper examines theoretical approaches to studying the problem of using the logistic approach in the agro-industrial complex and reveals the basic nodes of the agro-logistics system. Peculiarities of using logistics in the agro-industrial complex are described, basic logistic flows and processes in the given branch are reviewed. Types of distribution of products in the agro-industrial complex are analyzed. Influence of use of logistic methods of management generally and of stocks in particular on production and financial activity of enterprises in the given sphere is estimated.

Semakin panjang saluran distribusi, semakin banyak aktivitas logistik yang dilakukan, dan semakin besar potensi kontaminasi produk halal dengan bahan yang nonhalal.KATA KUNCI: level, logistik, halal, pemasaran, bakso, sosis, cireng isi daging; level, logistic, halal, marketing, meatball, sausage, fried tapioca-filled-with-meat DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL OF MEAT BASED SNACK THAT IS CONSUMED BY SCHOOL STUDENTSABSTRACTDistribution channels play role in logistic activity of food product. In halal perspective, distribution channels have a strong relation with halalness of food product. The halalness of food product does not only depend on the origin of material but also guarantee of non-halal material free contamination during the product flow from point of product origin to point of product to be consumed. The aim of this research was to define the distribution channel of snack that is consumed by school students in Bogor city including meatball, sausage, and fried tapioca-filled-with-meat related to halal logistic perspective. The method of this research was by interview using questionnaire. Sampling method was by purposive sampling. Based on the result, the distribution channels in meatballs marketing, sausage marketing, and fried tapioca-filled-with-meat marketing were zero-level channel, three-level channel, and four-level channels, respectively. A longer distribution channel makes a greater number of logistic activities and it has a bigger potency of contamination of non-halal material to the halal product.

Résumé :
Aim: Emerging evidence highlights the impact of stressful conditions on eating behaviours, particularly the consumption of foods high in salt, sugar and fat. The impact of the Coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic on food addiction is still un-estimated. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of food addiction among the Jordanian population during the quarantine. Materials and methods: A Cross-sectional study has been conducted between the 27th of April and the 4th of June of 2020. An online survey of Yale food addiction scale v.2.0 (YFAS 2.0) was distributed. A convenience sample was collected through social media sites. Differences in socio-demographic characteristics were analysed using t-test and chi-square tests. Food addiction was classified based on the scoring scale. Determinants of food addition were predicted by using multivariate logistic regression. Results: The results revealed that the prevalence of food addiction was 21.5% among adults. Among food addiction participants, 76.4% were diagnosed as severely food addicted. More than 50% of the participants reported high consumption of foods rich in sugar, salt, and fat (48.2%, 51.8%, and 52.5%, respectively). Overweight and obese young adults were more likely to have food addiction compared to normal weight. The multinominal logistic regression model revealed that there was no determinants of food addiction among adults. Conclusion: During the first months of the quarantine, the prevalence of food addiction was higher among obese and overweight adults compared to normal-weight adults.

Résumé :
Street food vending is a very popular and unique part of the informal sector, particularly in developing countries. However, the safety of street vended foods is a major public health concern since poor food safety and hygiene knowledge and practices are often reported among street food vendors (SFVs). The objective of this study was to identify the factors influencing food safety, hygiene awareness and practices (FSHAP) among SFVs in Kiambu County, Kenya. Structured questionnaires and an observation checklist were administered to randomly selected 345 SFVs. Results showed that good food safety and hygiene awareness scores were significantly (P<0.05) influenced by education level, food hygiene and safety training, mobility of SFVs, public health inspection, and the category of SFVs. Public health inspection was the only factor that significantly (P<0.05) influenced all FSHAP score categories. Mobile vendors were 1.86 and 2.20 times more likely to have poor working conditions and poor food handling practices scores compared to those who were not mobile, respectively. Training and education level significantly (P<0.01 and P <0.05, respectively) increased food safety and hygiene awareness score whereas the duration of time in street food vending significantly (P<0.05) improved food handling practice score. Public health inspection of SFVs was found to be the most effective way of improving FSHAP among SFVs. The study recommends regular inspections of SFVs by public health officials to enhance compliance with food hygiene and safety standards and regulations governing the street food sector as well as scheduled training on food safety and hygiene targeting all categories of street food vendors.

Résumé :
A multitude of dietary factors from dietary fat to macro and micronutrients intakes have been associated with breast cancer, yet data are still equivocal. Therefore, utilizing data from the large, multi-year, cross-sectional National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), we applied a novel, modern statistical shrinkage technique, logistic least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, to examine the association between dietary intakes in women, ≥50 years, with self-reported breast cancer (n = 286) compared with women without self-reported breast cancer (1144) from the 1999–2010 NHANES cycle. Logistic LASSO regression was used to examine the relationship between twenty-nine variables, including dietary variables from food, as well as well-established/known breast cancer risk factors, and to subsequently identify the most relevant variables associated with self-reported breast cancer. We observed that as the penalty factor (λ) increased in the logistic LASSO regression, well-established breast cancer risk factors, including age (β = 0.83) and parity (β = −0.05) remained in the model. For dietary macro and micronutrient intakes, only vitamin B12 (β = 0.07) was positively associated with self-reported breast cancer. Caffeine (β = −0.01) and alcohol (β = 0.03) use also continued to remain in the model. These data suggest that a diet high in vitamin B12, as well as alcohol use may be associated with self-reported breast cancer. Nonetheless, additional prospective studies should apply more recent statistical techniques to dietary data and cancer outcomes to replicate and confirm the present findings.

Résumé :
This study investigates the relationship between the consumption of foods and eating locations (home, school/work and others) in British adolescents, using data from the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey Rolling Program (2008–2012 and 2013–2016). A cross-sectional analysis of 62,523 food diary entries from this nationally representative sample was carried out for foods contributing up to 80% total energy to the daily adolescent’s diet. Correspondence analysis (CA) was used to generate food–location relationship hypotheses followed by logistic regression (LR) to quantify the evidence in terms of odds ratios and formally test those hypotheses. The less-healthy foods that emerged from CA were chips, soft drinks, chocolate and meat pies. Adjusted odds ratios (99% CI) for consuming specific foods at a location “other” than home (H) or school/work (S) in the 2008–2012 survey sample were: for soft drinks, 2.8 (2.1 to 3.8) vs. H and 2.0 (1.4 to 2.8) vs. S; for chips, 2.8 (2.2 to 3.7) vs. H and 3.4 (2.1 to 5.5) vs. S; for chocolates, 2.6 (1.9 to 3.5) vs. H and 1.9 (1.2 to 2.9) vs. S; and for meat pies, 2.7 (1.5 to 5.1) vs. H and 1.3 (0.5 to 3.1) vs. S. These trends were confirmed in the 2013–2016 survey sample. Interactions between location and BMI were not significant in either sample. In conclusion, public health policies to discourage less-healthy food choices in locations away from home and school/work are warranted for adolescents, irrespective of their BMI.

Résumé :
Topicality. Modern trends in the formation of institutional support for logistics chains of commodity markets, led to the urgent need to consider them on the example of the food market. The integration of domestic agricultural enterprises into value chains is fundamentally important for the development of Ukraine's agricultural industry. Participation in such logistics chains provides a synergistic effect that allows participants, stakeholders to join forces to achieve their goals and objectives and generally improves competitiveness in food markets, including foreign ones. Possibility of control of a logistic chain of creation of the added value and rich positive experience of development of integration allows to activate available commodity potential objects and objects. Economic policy and the interest of stakeholders in logistics product chains, which is why it is formed and implemented through the prism of institutional support in the external dimension.Аim and tasks. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the theoretical and methodological provisions and to develop practical recommendations for the formation of logistics chains to add value to the provision of foreign commodity markets in their markets.Research results. Analysis of the problems of efficiency of global agri-food value chains and a specific market participant, allows you to study agricultural enterprises in this chain and the links between them to see how and when they can be strengthened to achieve production and marketing efficiency; or to facilitate a more efficient vertical and horizontal flow of information, production factors and resources. Such an analysis may reveal efficiency constraints related to a specific feature of global agri-food value chains in commodity markets. Both developed and developing countries must be able to take advantage of global food value chains. Recent data show that as countries participate in global value chains of commodity markets, the growth rate of their gross domestic product increases. Value chains play an important role as a source of job creation. Thus, trade and supply in food hubs within the logistics chains of food markets stimulates the development of logistics as a critical component of global chains, as it is extremely important to supply products in the right quantity, the right quality, on time. The study also focuses on general market factors that affect the efficiency of specific value chains in the external dimension: legislative, regulatory and political environment; availability and quality of support services such as funding, training and information technology.Conclusions. Thus, the formation of efficient logistics chains allows to strengthen ties, cooperation between agricultural enterprises and multinational corporations through a transparent regulatory and investment environment in Ukraine. The ability of agri-food entities to withstand the effects of negative institutional factors, crises, adaptively and promptly make adjustments and respond to changes in the market environment in the agri-food market. The concept of integrating the mechanisms of domestic agri-food markets into global value chains makes sense, as it can bridge the gap between government policy and the realities of the food business.

The improvement of patients’ food satisfaction and acceptance in the hospitals is primarily needed in the food service system. Room service is a new concept in the food service area. This study aims to compare the effects of two different types of food service systems; room service and conventional service system. The study with quasi-experimental design is conducted to the subject of 66 inpatients who were taken using a quota sampling method. Subjects were divided into different groups, the treatment groups (room service) and control groups (conventional). Leftover food between groups was compared for 9 large meals to determine acceptability. Food satisfaction is measured on the last day with using questionnaire. The study was conducted in April-June 2014. Chi-Square test and logistic regression were used for analysis of research data. There were significant differences food satisfaction (RR=4.6; p=0.0001) and food acceptance (RR=1.94; p=0.0488) between control and treatment group. The logistic regression test showed that room service group had higher food satisfaction and food acceptance level than control group after controlling confounding factors, which were 12,11 times (95% CI 3,593 – 37,219) and 2,38 times (95% CI 0,68-8,31), respectively. The room service increases food satisfaction and food acceptance of patients compared with conventional systems.

Résumé :
One of the elements of creating a competitive advantage of modern enterprises is the development of supply chains, in which logistic processes are essential. Managing such a supply chain allows the integration of key business processes from the end user through suppliers delivering products, services and information, which provides added value for customers and other stakeholders. The main purpose of the study is to assess the degree of implementation of logistic business processes within the supply chain in enterprises operating in the agri-food industry. The source material on the basis of which the analysis was carried out and conclusions were formulated were surveys conducted among agribusiness entrepreneurs from Podkarpacie. The conducted research shows that the level of advancement of logistics processes in supply chains depends on the type of industry in which a specific company operates and its size. Larger economic entities, due to the possibilities and capital they have, use advanced and integrated IT systems supporting production planning, supply, distribution and sales. The implementation of such tools allows for the standardization of many business processes within the network of connections of entities participating in a common supply chain.

Résumé :
The halal food industry is founded based on the concept of Halalan Toyyiban (HT), as commanded in the Qur’an. However, as reflected in the current halal standards, requirements, and practices, the current approach of HT may overlook some components that are supposed to be an integral part of the concept. This article utilises the modern food system approach to frame the discussion for a holistic overview that links the cycle of the current food system and the HT concept towards obtaining its conceptual clarity. The attributes of HT in six different components of the established food system – production, distribution, processing, marketing, consumption and waste recovery; are contextualized. An explicit conceptual clarity of HT shall create a ripple effect towards a change of mindset and behaviour of all stakeholders leading to the attainment of the wholesomeness of HT. Beyond the conceptual clarity, HT attributes can be elegantly positioned in the modern food system as vehicles to provide safe, high quality, good and wholesome food; in an ethical and sustainable ecosystem.

Résumé :
Ultra-processed foods have been associated with increased risk of chronic disease, poor overall health and psychological outcomes. This study explored the association of ultra-processed foods with quality of life in adolescent girls from northeastern Iran. In an interdisciplinary cross-sectional study, n = 733 adolescent girls were recruited by random cluster sampling. Assessments were completed for demographics, physical activity, anthropometric and biochemical parameters, psychological health and dietary intake. The participants were categorized into quartiles of ultra-processed food intake, and multivariable logistic regression was used in several models to investigate the association between ultra-processed food intake and psychological health. The mean age of the participants was 14 years. There were no significant differences in participant demographics for the quartiles of ultra-processed food intake including weight, waist–hip ratio, waist circumference, depression, insomnia and cardiometabolic markers related to cardiovascular disease risk. Adjusted logistic regression showed participants in the highest category of ultra-processed food consumption had an increased likelihood of reduced quality of life (OR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.13–3.11), with a greater chance for insomnia (OR: 4.04, 95% CI: 1.83–8.94) across all models. However, no significant associations were observed between consumption of ultra-processed foods and daytime sleepiness. We highlight the association between ultra-processed food consumption and poor quality of life and insomnia amongst adolescent girls. Large longitudinal integrated public health studies in different ethnicities are needed to confirm these associations and evaluate their possible impact for optimizing health promotion programs.

Résumé :
Background: Food is basics of our lives and many people experiences food insecurity at some time because of food deprivation and lack of access to food due to different resource constraints. It is a global challenge and threatens the rural people in developing countries like Nepal. Objective: The objective of the study is to identify the factors associated with food insecurity in rural area of Nepal. Materials and Methods: The analysis is based on rural household data extracted from the data of Nepal Demographic and Health Survey 2016. The dependent variable food insecurity status was measured in four levels namely food secure, mildly food insecure, moderately food insecure and severely food insecure household using Household Food Insecurity Access Scale. Independent variables were categorical and quantitative variables. In order to identify the factors associated with food insecurity, ordinal logit model was fitted initially. Due to violation of test of parallel lines by overall as well as some of the independent variables, multinomial logistic regression model was finally adopted by examining the model adequacy test. Results: The fitted multinomial logistic regression satisfied the diagnostic test including tests of goodness of fit, multicolinearity diagnostic criteria and minimum criteria of utilization of the model with about 29% predictive power. The variables ecological region, wealth index, size of agriculture land, any member(s) having saving account in any financial institution, any member(s) had gone to foreign employment in last 5 years other than India, family size, number of members completed secondary education and household member rearing cattle(s) were found to be significant. The poorest households (HHs) had 3.14 (CI: 1.88-5.26) times, poorer HHs 2.51 (CI: 1.55-4.07) times and moderate HHs 1.42 times higher chances of being severely food insecure relative to rich HHs. Conclusion: The study revealed that food insecurity of the rural HHs increases with decrease in the wealth index, size of land and number of members of the HHs with completed secondary education. The food insecurity of the households decreases with increase in the access to bank service.

This paper examines the changes to procurement for school food environments in Canada as a response to changes to nutrition regulations at the provincial level. Interviews with those working in school food environments across Canada revealed how changes to the nutrition requirements of foods and beverages sold in schools presented opportunities to not only improve the nutrient content of the items made available in school food environments, but also to include local producers and/or school gardens in procuring for the school food environment. At the same time, some schools struggle to procure nutritionally compliant foods due to increased costs associated with transporting produce to rural, remote, or northern communities as well as logistic difficulties like spoilage. Although the nutrition regulations have facilitated improvements to food environments in some schools, others require more support to improve the overall nutritional quality of the foods and beverages available to students at school.

AbstractObjectiveChildren from rural households are often deprived of adequate micronutrient intakes either from food or supplementation. The present study examines: (i) the determinants of households’ micronutrient-rich food consumption; and (ii) the combined effect of vitamin A supplementation and micronutrient-rich food consumption on child stunting in households with different food allocation patterns.DesignCross-sectional study. Households’ micronutrient-rich food consumption frequency and vitamin A supplementation were used as a proxy measure for child micronutrient intakes. Intra-household food allocation patterns were assessed from caregivers’ perception of the disparity in food distribution within the household. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were employed in analysing the study’s objectives.SettingRural communities in Kwara State, Nigeria.ParticipantsIncluded 419 children aged 6–59 months and 413 households.ResultsOwning small livestock and a refrigerator, knowledge of micronutrient-rich foods and higher parental education had strong associations with households’ micronutrient-rich food consumption. Children from households that consumed micronutrient-rich foods and received more diverse diets were less likely to experience stunting. The combined effect of micronutrient-rich food consumption and vitamin A supplementation was stronger on the likelihood of stunting reduction than the separate effect of each.ConclusionsAssets ownership, human capital and knowledge of micronutrient-rich foods improve consumption of micronutrient-rich foods among the study population. Micronutrient supplementation to children with poor access to micronutrient-rich foods may not substantially enhance child growth unless reinforced through consumption of micronutrient-rich foods. Fruit and vegetable gardening, livestock holdings and nutrition education to parents should be integral parts of community nutrition programming.

Résumé :
Escalating intensification and homogenization occurring throughout the supply chain poses serious challenges to the global food supply. Several approaches have been developed to shift the food systems to a more resilient path; however, the high unit costs of shipping impede its development. This paper proposes a shared logistic service supported by E-commerce as a solution to this problem. It analyzes the shared logistic system developed by Vegibus Ins. in Japan which has unique features, such as fixed routes. It argues that the logistic service has the ability to connect different scales while supporting flexible transactions leading to the construction of a resilient agri-food system. At the same time, the paper points out the need for subsidies from the governments to facilitate this kind of shared logistic service at the initial stage as one limitation to this approach.

Résumé :
Nepal has been persistently encountering food insecurity and under-nutrition. It is therefore utmost important to determine the factors responsible for influencing food insecurity in Nepal. This study examines the factors determining food insecurity in Nepal applying binary logistic models for food poverty, household with inadequate food consumption and poor dietary diversity using data from Nepal Living Standard Survey 2010/11. Food security was determined to be strongly associated with education level and age of household head, household with higher female education level, larger farm size with higher ratio of irrigated land, better access to markets, roads and cooperatives, better household assets and remittance recipient households. Food insecure is relatively more prevalent in rural areas with higher dependent on rain-fed agriculture, higher dependency ratio and larger family size. Improving both physical and economic access to foods, together with investment in education and agriculture could help to reduce food insecurity and hunger from Nepal.

Résumé :
Discrepancies exist among food processing classification systems and in the relationship between processed food intake and dietary quality of children. This study compared inter-rater reliability, food processing category, and the relationship between processing category and nutrient concentration among three systems (Nova, International Food Information Council (IFIC), and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC)). Processing categories for the top 100 most commonly consumed foods children consume (NHANES 2013–2014) were independently coded and compared using Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. Relative ability of nutrient concentration to predict processing category was investigated using linear discriminant analysis and multinomial logistic regression and compared between systems using Cohen’s kappa coefficient. UNC had the highest inter-rater reliability (ρ = 0.97), followed by IFIC (ρ = 0.78) and Nova (ρ = 0.76). UNC and Nova had the highest agreement (80%). Lower potassium was predictive of IFIC’s classification of foods as moderately compared to minimally processed (p = 0.01); lower vitamin D was predictive of UNC’s classification of foods as highly compared to minimally processed (p = 0.04). Sodium and added sugars were predictive of all systems’ classification of highly compared to minimally processed foods (p < 0.05). Current classification systems may not sufficiently identify foods with high nutrient quality commonly consumed by children in the U.S.
