Résumé :
We introduced the field emission source into electron microscopy twenty five years ago but in spite of the obvious advantages of such a source it was not an instant success. In fact it is only in recent years that the use of field emission has become significant, and even now it is only for high performance, high cost instruments. The reasons for customer resistance are not hard to find. Firs t there is the need for a UHV system, a necessity which brings with it a significant increase in cost and also the need for new expertise and training since UHV systems use different hardware and different maintenance procedures.Next there is the need for knowledge and experience with field emission and its peculiar characteristics. Tips need to be “flashed” and the operator needs to be able to recognize the symptoms which signal that need.

(1) Background: With the growth of the age-friendly movement, age-friendly ecosystems (AFE) garnered more attention. The successful development of an AFE is contingent on unified efforts across different stakeholders; however, limited efforts were made to help create a common understanding of the necessary components of an AFE. (2) Methodology: In response, The John A. Hartford Foundation and The Age-Friendly Institute hosted a series of convenings of international experts to identify a working definition of the characteristics composing an AFE. The goal of these convenings was to provide a foundation on which to unite cross-sector age-friendly work. (3) Results: This paper discussed the findings of the convenings and provided a framework from which future age-friendly work must draw upon. (4) Conclusions: This paper presented a necessary change in how we conceive AFEs.

Résumé :
The aim of this study was to develop a field-friendly method for free-living jaguar and cougar semen cryopreservation. Six captive Jaguars Panthera onca and three captive Cougars Puma concolor were chemically restrained with a combination of medetomidine (0.08–0.1 mg/kg) and ketamine (5 mg/kg). Semen was collected through a tomcat urinary catheter with an open end, diluted for a final concentration of 50 x 106 sperm/mL in a TRIS-egg yolk extender and packaged into 0.25 mL straws. We compared two cooling methods: CoolA - in which straws were placed in a glass tube that was placed in a glass bottle containing water (600mL at 38°C) and transferred to a polystyrene container (12L) containing an 11cm column of ice and water at room temperature; CoolB – where the glass bottle – straws kit was transferred to a 4.26L cooler containing nine blocks (81cm3) of Ice Foam recyclable ice, previously frozen in liquid nitrogen. The sperm volume varied from 2 to 720 µl for the jaguars and from 80 to 140 µl for the cougars. Sperm concentration varied from 224 to 5,115 x106 sperm/mL for the jaguars and from 485.7 to 562.5 x 106 sperm/mL for the cougars. Concerning the cooling treatments, there was no difference in frozen-thawed sperm quality between the methods, in both species. Thereby, the cooling method using recyclable ice frozen in liquid nitrogen can be used for semen cryopreservation in wild felines, eliminating the need for electric energy.

Résumé :
This study focuses on evaluating the field performance of a newly developed eco-friendly precast concrete slab track structure for railway/subway systems in Seoul, South Korea. Although Ballasted railway track structures are one of the most common track structures in the railway industry, they have some drawbacks including higher maintenance cost, un-uniform supports, and a high level of noise and vibration. However, a ballastless (slab-based) track structure system requires less maintenance and uniform support conditions, as well as several ballastless structure systems developed for high-speed trains. The Seoul Metro subway in South Korea has developed a ballastless reinforced concrete (RC) slab railway system using a type of conventional concrete. This study presents a ballastless precast concrete slab using a newly developed eco-friendly concrete, which can significantly improve structural performances and the manufacturability of a railway track structure system. This study evaluates the field performance of the eco-friendly concrete slab system deployed in one of the existing tunnel sections of the Seoul Metro subway system. A total of 10 m long slab sections including a 5 m long eco-friendly “ballasted track to slab track (B2S)” panels section and a 5 m long conventional B2S panels section are installed and monitored side by side. Field tests are performed to measure the level of noise, vibration, dynamic wheel load, rail displacement, and rail stress. The field measurements from the eco-friendly B2S section are compared to those of the conventional reinforced concrete slab track systems. The results show that the performance of the new B2S system using the eco-friendly concrete is comparable and/or superior to the conventional system.

Résumé :
This article is intended to reveal environmentally friendly and environmentally unfriendly practices in shifting cultivation among the Tolaki people in Southeast Sulawesi. The method of presenting this article is done by first describing the practice of shifting cultivation as it is and then showing environmentally friendly and non-environmentally friendly practices at each stage. The results of this study indicate that there are environmentally friendly and unfriendly behaviors in shifting cultivation practices. Environmentally friendly behaviors include: a ceremony to apply for a permit to clear a field (mohoto o wuta), allowing a number of trees to stand upright in some parts of the field, cleaning the entire side of the cultivated area when they want to burn (mekere), getting to know the fallow and rotary mechanism as well as the practice of hetero-culture inside it. Meanwhile, environmentally unfriendly practices include: the habit of burning on wood stumps that can still grow, slashing and cleaning up new shoots of wood and piling grass and other debris on the stumps.

Résumé :
In order to better meet the needs of the elderly, we provide them with a safe, comfortable and convenient living environment. We conducted a study on the application of virtual reality in the construction of ageing-friendly environment, from the perspective of ageing-friendly design with the concept of "ageing-oriented" design, to study how to adapt the environment to the physiological and psychological needs of the elderly through virtual reality technology and improve the quality of life of the elderly. By studying the impact of virtual reality technology on the aging-friendly environment, we conclude how virtual reality technology can be applied in the construction of aging-friendly environment. Although VR technology has been applied in the medical field, there are few studies that provide services and help for the elderly; the ability to enhance the comfort of the environment for the elderly through virtual reality is a major innovation of this project, which provides a new way of exploration for the field of aging-friendly research.

Résumé :
Since the conservation agriculture (CA) is spreading across the globe, information on weed dynamics and their management under CA is needed. Here, an attempt has been made to summarize the recent research on weed dynamics and their management aspects in the CA systems. Changes in patterns of tillage, planting systems, and other management strategies can alter the soil environment and lead to shifts in weed populations. Weed patterns and populations are not always stable but vary with location, crop, and herbicides use. However, in many long-term conservation management studies, a general increase in perennial weeds and grass species has been observed. No tillage increased the weed population during first season and there after decreased. Residue has significantly reduced the number of weed species and population compared to conventional agriculture systems. The development of low-dose of non-selective pre and selective post emergence herbicides, and transgenic crops has greatly improved the feasibility of CA systems.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ije.v3i4.11733 International Journal of Environment Volume-3, Issue-4, Sep-Nov 2014Page: 91-100

Résumé :
Background: Micronutrient status, body composition, gastrointestinal (GI) functioning, and neurological functioning are important facets of pediatric nutrition and health. When studied in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), information about these elements is usually obtained via standardized surveys and traditional anthropometry. While convenient, these evaluations offer limited information that may be prone to error and bias. However, a variety of underutilized objective measurement tools exist which can promote a more objective, comprehensive, and deeper understanding of these aspects of pediatric nutrition and health in LMIC. Objective: Identify field-friendly, relatively low-cost, and portable tools that provide objective measurements of micronutrient status, body composition, GI functioning, and neurological functioning in young children. Methods: A narrative review of the literature was conducted to assess the state-of-the-art field-friendly research tools targeting micronutrient status, body composition, GI functioning, and neurological functioning in children in LMIC. Results: A number of field-friendly tools addressing the domains of micronutrient status, GI health, body composition, and neurological functioning were identified. While many tools remain to be fully validated, these tools have yet to be used to their full potential in field-based pediatric nutrition and health research in LMICs. Conclusions: More robust, field-friendly assessment methods will help to refine knowledge on the state of pediatric health of vulnerable children in LMIC. Such awareness could contribute to the design of interventions, programs and policies, and further research.

AbstractJustice Stephen J. Field was the champion of a form of liberalism often said to be especially friendly to capitalism, the approach to the Constitution traditionally identified with “Lochnerism,” i.e., a laissez-faire oriented judicial activism. More recently a form of judicial revisionism has arisen, challenging the accepted descriptions of “Lochnerism” and of Field's jurisprudence. This article is an attempt to extend the revisionist approach by arriving at a more satisfactory understanding of the grounding of Field's jurisprudence in the natural rights philosophy. Field, it turns out, orienting around natural rights, was not so unambiguously friendly to capitalism as previous generations of scholars maintained, but his approach is surely friendlier than the constitutional theories that have replaced natural rights since Field's day.

Résumé :
This article illustrates that miniaturization promises to bring chemical analysis out of the lab and into the field. Current research, based on varying approaches, is aimed at ultimately developing small, portable chemical analysis systems that are fast, accurate, and field-friendly. Some applications have been commercialized, and many more are still under development. One approach, taken by Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA, is based on detecting elemental signatures—telltale traces of elements that fluoresce when the material is hit by an X-ray or gamma ray. An integrated, field-portable µChemLab will take a chromatographic approach to performing chemical analysis on gases and liquids. The enabling technology of Sandia’s approach is based on a new type of solid-state detector designed with a semiconductor crystal alloy of cadmium, zinc, and telluride, which can operate at room temperature—a key advantage over conventional silicon- and germanium-based devices. A different approach, based on chromatography, is the focus of another Sandia project to develop a field-portable chemical analysis device.

Résumé :
The object of the study is investment activity in the Russian Federation. The subject of the study is the implementation of investment activities in relation to friendly foreign states. The purpose of the work is to assess the possible prospects and risks of the orientation of the economy of the Russian Federation on cooperation with friendly countries in the field of investment. Tasks of the work: • To assess the regulatory framework for the orientation of the economy of the Russian Federation to friendly countries; • Analyze economic indicators in relation to friendly countries; • To assess the prospects for cooperation with unfriendly countries in the medium term. The main method of research is analysis. The author analyzes the regulatory framework in the sphere of orientation of the economy of the Russian Federation to strengthen partnership with friendly countries, provides analysis of various indicators of friendly countries and companies belonging to the jurisdiction of friendly countries. Based on the analysis, the author identifies the problem points, relying on the methods of logic. Today, the economy of the Russian Federation is reorienting towards building relations with friendly states. Such a decision is an atypical measure of economic regulation, and there are a small number of examples of similar examples of actions by state bodies. The decision causes an active discussion in the Russian society, which confirms the relevance of this study. The key problem points directly related to the restriction of access to investments in companies of unfriendly foreign states and current investment opportunities in companies of friendly states are identified. The author puts forward several recommendations that can reduce the level of uncertainty in the financial market and reduce risks in the field of investments.

The practical application of an environmentally friendly method of removing weeds using high-pressure water jets is hampered by the lack of technical solutions to ensure compliance with the treatment regimes in field conditions. The article presents a device for the hydraulic removal of weeds for use in gardening. To comply with the treatment regimens when performing technological operations in the field, a system of adaptation of the spray head has been developed. The results of field studies of the developed device with the proposed automated adaptation system are given.

Résumé :
Environment protection has aroused big concern in industrial development nowadays, and the printing industry has always been known as a big paper consumer and environmental pollution "contributor". In 1980s, Europe and the United States pioneered the concept of environment-friendly printing. China has also issued “Regulations for Environmental Labeling Products—Ink” since the 2008, which contains similar provisions of limited demand with those regulations of USA, EU, Japan, New Zealand and other countries. Environment-friendly ink is the key to achieve environment-friendly printing, and fine chemicals as an indispensable component is the sticking point to control. This paper describes the relevant laws of environment-friendly ink, types of environment-friendly colorant and the actual application, such as in inkjet and flexographic printing field.

Résumé :
This article scans recent developments within citizenship studies and relates them to the field of dementia, specifically the ‘dementia friendly communities’ agenda. The dementia friendly communities agenda is selected for several reasons, most notably because, it is an area of practice in the field of dementia where citizenship is perhaps most clearly enacted. The aim of the article is to help with the advancement of social citizenship as a key concept for dementia studies, by using two of the latest ideas within citizenship studies; namely, understandings of citizenship as (a) occurring in ordinary places and (b) potentially enacted within the domestic sphere to explore dementia friendly communities. It is argued that the interplay between these two developments pave the way for deeper consideration and realisation of social citizenship in the context of people with dementia.

Résumé :
Abstract Geological field training and site inspections are important components of the education in geological and civil engineering and associated disciplines. However, field training is not inclusive, does not consider students’ family situations, for example associated with care work, places high demands on students’ financial resilience, and therefore does not address family educational backgrounds. Also, it is not pandemic proof. Through the implementation of digital field training, students can get access to important aspects of field work in a barrier-reduced and location-independent way. Knowledge associated with geological field training therefore becomes more accessible and inclusive. Moreover, outcrops or specific rock structures that are difficult or unsafe to access in the field can be explored digitally. In this project, parts of a geological mapping course physically held in southern Germany and taught at the Faculty of Geosciences at Ruhr-Universität Bochum were turned into a digital field course. A virtual 360° tour with 3D models of outcrops and rock samples was complemented by photo, video and audio material with information on the geological setting. The digital field training was integrated via Moodle as a full lecture with H5P elements. Additionally, individual components were combined in a game engine, so that students can immerse themselves into the project settings via virtual reality experiences or on-screen. The learning outcome includes the creation of a geological map in the study area in QGIS that is complemented by a field report. The choice of equipment, procedure and results are presented. While acknowledging that a digital experience cannot fully replace the learning experience of physical field trips, it can be a valuable complement to physical field work, provide access to inaccessible geological regions, support interdisciplinary teaching projects, and provide an alternative to marginalised students who would otherwise not be able to complete a geoengineering curriculum.

Résumé :
The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of implementing child-friendly school policies in elementary schools. This research is quantitative research with survey design. Observations on the implementation of the policy were made to several schools in the Kulon Progo area. Analysis of field data regarding cases of child violence was carried out through descriptive statistics and literature review as a description of the condition of child-friendly schools in Indonesia. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of child-friendly school policies in the Kulon Progo Region is in the quite appropriate category. It is necessary to take steps in optimizing the applicable child-friendly school policy model. The constraint factors in implementing child-friendly school policies still need special attention, especially for education providers and the government.

Résumé :
This research is motivated by economic learning conditions that have not involved the value of sustainability. Sustainability values need to be developed in economic learning because economic activities have a great opportunity to behave in an environmentally unfriendly manner that has a broad impact. The application of sustainable values to students is realized through meaningful learning, one of which is by applying the inquiry work field learning model that emphasizes direct experience through field research. Thus this study aims to design learning models with the ADDIE approach (analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation). To design the design of this learning model, a needs analysis was conducted and design was designed by conducting surveys, observations and literature studies on the learning model. The results of this study reveal the current conditions of economic learning, the results of the needs analysis for the preparation of learning models and the design of learning models. It is hoped that from this research, it can be an input for meaningful economic learning through direct experience that is able to foster environmentally friendly behavior in the long term.
