Résumé :
It has been realized that the influence of system parameter uncertainties may be very significant, even dominant, in stochastic response evaluation. Nevertheless, in reality, this evaluation process may be difficult to conduct due to these parameter variables (viz. structural property parameters, such as stiffness, damping, and strength, and excitation characteristics parameters, such as frequency content and duration) that are usually correlated with each other. Therefore, this study devotes to develop a method for evaluating stochastic response uncertainty involving correlated system parameter variables. In this method, the evaluation expression for the mean and standard deviation of the maximum response including uncertainty parameter variables are provided first; subsequently, a third-moment pseudo-correlation normal transformation is able to be performed for converting the correlated and non-normal system parameter variables with unknown joint probability density function (PDF) or marginal PDF into the mutually independent standard normal ones; ultimately, a point estimate procedure (PEP) based on univariate dimension reduction integration can be carried out for evaluating the structural stochastic response including uncertainty system parameters. Several numerical examples with an engineering background involving correlated system parameter variables are analyzed and discussed under stochastic excitation, and their results are compared with those yielded by Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) so as to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach proposed. It indicated that the method proposed, in this study, provides an effective path to deal with uncertainty evaluation of stochastic structural response involving correlated random variables.

Résumé :
Recently, using automatic configuration tuning to improve the performance of modern database management systems (DBMSs) has attracted increasing interest from the database community. This is embodied with a number of systems featuring advanced tuning capabilities being developed. However, it remains a challenge to select the best solution for database configuration tuning, considering the large body of algorithm choices. In addition, beyond the applications on database systems, we could find more potential algorithms designed for configuration tuning. To this end, this paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of configuration tuning techniques from a broader perspective, hoping to better benefit the database community. In particular, we summarize three key modules of database configuration tuning systems and conduct extensive ablation studies using various challenging cases. Our evaluation demonstrates that the hyper-parameter optimization algorithms can be borrowed to further enhance the database configuration tuning. Moreover, we identify the best algorithm choices for different modules. Beyond the comprehensive evaluations, we offer an efficient and unified database configuration tuning benchmark via surrogates that reduces the evaluation cost to a minimum, allowing for extensive runs and analysis of new techniques.

A method for measuring the L1–L3 and L1–L4 distance by sonography is presented, and the results are compared with measurements from radiography. For 35 children aged 2 months to 13 years (mean 5.2 years) sonographic measurements displayed a mean percentage variation of 2.4 to 3.2 per cent from radiographic values. The coefficient of correlation was about 0.98. As sonography is suitable for kidney length estimation, the additional information obtained by the method presented makes it possible to perform the same kidney size evaluation by means of the same length/vertebral body-related diagrams already used in radiographic kidney size evaluation.

Résumé :
The current model for evaluating ideological and political education is mostly based on a weighted evaluation of related educational parameters, like the structure of the school and the structure of the teachers. In this cycle, the impact of college students’ general development on the construction of their ideological and political education is not considered, which makes evaluations less exact by and large. To work on the exactness of the evaluation model, you ought to upgrade the construction of the evaluation model, with the quality of education for college students as the center advancement. Education quality evaluation calculation and model parameter output calculation are integrated. In terms of the quality of training for college students, simulation tests reveal that the proposed model has the lowest blunder esteem and the highest general evaluation precision. This makes it easier to decide what kind of ideological and political education is best.

In order to improve the model accuracy of reliability evaluation, the Three-Parameter Weibull Distribution model of time between fault was established by introducing location parameters. The correlation coefficient optimization method based on the adaptive genetic algorithm was firstly applied to estimate the location parameter of the Three-Parameter Weibull Distribution. Shape parameter and scale parameter were obtained by the least square method. The time between failures of these series machining center submitting to three-parameter weibull Distribution was checked by the test hypothesis of goodness-of-fit distribution. Finally, the machining center was carried out reliability evaluation based on the Three-Parameter Weibull Distribution model.

Résumé :
Parameter optimization of a hydrological model is intrinsically a high dimensional, nonlinear, multivariable, combinatorial optimization problem which involves a set of different objectives. Currently, the assessment of optimization results for the hydrological model is usually made through calculations and comparisons of objective function values of simulated and observed variables. Thus, the proper selection of objective functions’ combination for model parameter optimization has an important impact on the hydrological forecasting. There exist various objective functions, and how to analyze and evaluate the objective function combinations for selecting the optimal parameters has not been studied in depth. Therefore, to select the proper objective function combination which can balance the trade-off among various design objectives and achieve the overall best benefit, a simple and convenient framework for the comparison of the influence of different objective function combinations on the optimization results is urgently needed. In this paper, various objective functions related to parameters optimization of hydrological models were collected from the literature and constructed to nine combinations. Then, a selection and evaluation framework of objective functions is proposed for hydrological model parameter optimization, in which a multiobjective artificial bee colony algorithm named RMOABC is employed to optimize the hydrological model and obtain the Pareto optimal solutions. The parameter optimization problem of the Xinanjiang hydrological model was taken as the application case for long-term runoff prediction in the Heihe River basin. Finally, the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) based on the entropy theory is adapted to sort the Pareto optimal solutions to compare these combinations of objective functions and obtain the comprehensive optimal objective functions’ combination. The experiments results demonstrate that the combination 2 of objective functions can provide more comprehensive and reliable dominant options (i.e., parameter sets) for practical hydrological forecasting in the study area. The entropy-based method has been proved that it is effective to analyze and evaluate the performance of different combinations of objective functions and can provide more comprehensive and impersonal decision support for hydrological forecasting.

Résumé :
The fracture toughness of materials that exhibit limited yielding at the crack tip is often characterised by evaluation of the “far-field” J integral. However, Carlsson et al(7) have shown that such “far-field” parameters may be less than ideal for composite materials where the crack tip in the matrix material undergoes extensive yielding. This paper investigates this proposition and presents the results of a numerical evaluation into the use of a near-tip energy integral, the so called T* parameter, for evaluating the fracture toughness of composite materials. Here attention is focused on both the near-tip fracture parameter and on load history effects.

Résumé :
Progresson of extracranial carotid disease is considered to be significant independent predictor in the evaluation of individual cerebrovascular prognosis. Doppler ultrasonography is a useful screening method in the diagnosis and evaluation of extracranial carotid disease. The aim of this study was to establish the most sensitive hemodynamic parameter of Doppler-ultrasonographic spectral analysis in clinical evaluation of extracranial carotid disease. Investigation included 90 patients (of both sexes) in hospital and outpatient clinic care. Spectral analysis (M-scanning technique) was used for the evaluation of hemodynamic status of carotid sinus, including the following parameters: Pourcelot (A-D/A), Gosling (A/B) and Mol (A/D) resistance parameters. After statistical processing the results of the research affirmed hemodynamic parameters' values and correlation between Pourcelot hemodynamic parameter and the degree of carotid stenosis ?=0,59 for all patients, and ?=0,58 for patients with pathological values. Correlation between Mol parameter and the degree of carotid stenosis was ?=0,50 for all patients, and ?=0,57 for patients with pathological values. Gosling parameter was not significantly different in mean value and was present in all three groups. Functional relationship between the degree of carotid stenosis and each of hemodynamic parameters was established. It was concluded that Pourcelot and Mol parameters were significant indicators of asimptomatic carotid disease, but Pourcelot parameter was considered as a more sensitive indicator in the evaluation of extracranial carotid disease.

Parameters for the unified constitutive model MATMOD [1] were evaluated for rock salt (NaCl) by using nonlinear least squares to fit the model to isothermal laboratory data. MATMOD incorporates two internal variables that represent the effects of both kinematic and isotropic hardening. The constitutive equations contain nine parameters that must be evaluated to model isothermal deformation. Laboratory data from stress relaxation, constant strain rate, and long-term creep tests were used. The latter two test types included staged tests in which the strain rate or stress was changed step-wise during the test. The test conditions were precisely controlled by a computer and the constitutive equations were integrated to simulate the laboratory conditions closely. The MATMOD parameters were then evaluated by fitting the integrated equations to the laboratory data using nonlinear least squares. The model fits the data well, but the fit may be improved by changing the evolutionary equation for the internal variable that accounts for isotropic hardening.

Résumé :
Construction of tunnel results in ground movements with a settlement trough which is well described by a Gaussian distribution curve. For near surface settlements, it was established that the trough width i is an approximately linear function of the tunnel depth zo in relation to a trough width parameter K and broadly independent of tunnel construction method and tunnel diameter (except for very shallow tunnels where the cover to diameter ratio is less than one). The choice of an appropriate value of K may require some judgement, since it depends on whether the ground is primarily cohesive or frictional. Published literatures recommended that for practical purposes K could be taken as 0.5 for tunnels in clays and 0.25 for tunnels in sands and gravels. This paper discusses the evaluation of trough width parameter which has not been studied much for typical soil types encountered in the Klang Valley of Malaysia (e.g. Kenny Hill formation weathered materials, granitic soil, alluvium, etc.) of which are commonly in cohesive-frictional nature. The main objective of study is to investigate, using numerical method, the arbitrary relationship of the trough width parameter for different soil types in terms of its effective shear strength parameters and stiffness parameter. A parametric study was carried out to identify parameter(s) which have a significant influence on the settlement trough width and simple equation is presented subsequently for estimating appropriate K values for empirical calculation. This study has excluded two-layered system of different geology where, for example, a tunnel in Kenny Hill formation is overlain by significant thickness of alluvium deposits. Preliminary findings based on numerical analysis showed some promising results. Effort to continually build up the field database to further refine the deduced relationship for the surface settlement trough width parameter is in progress over the course of construction for Klang Valley MRT tunnels.

Résumé :
Abstract Track, intensity, and, in some cases, size are usually used as separate evaluation parameters to assess numerical model performance on tropical cyclone (TC) forecasts. Such an individual-parameter evaluation approach often encounters contradictory skill assessments for different parameters, for instance, small track error with large intensity error and vice versa. In this study, an intensity-weighted hurricane track density function (IW-HTDF) is designed as a new approach to the integrated evaluation of TC track, intensity, and size forecasts. The sensitivity of the TC track density to TC wind radius was investigated by calculating the IW-HTDF with density functions defined by 1) asymmetric, 2) symmetric, and 3) constant wind radii. Using the best-track data as the benchmark, IW-HTDF provides a specific score value for a TC forecast validated for a specific date and time or duration. This new TC forecast evaluation approach provides a relatively concise, integrated skill score compared with multiple skill scores when track, intensity and size are evaluated separately. It should be noted that actual observations of TC size data are very limited and so are the estimations of TC size forecasts. Therefore, including TC size as a forecast evaluation parameter is exploratory at the present. The proposed integrated evaluation method for TC track, intensity, and size forecasts can be used for evaluating the track forecast alone or in combination with intensity and size parameters. As observations and forecasts of TC size become routine in the future, including TC size as a forecast skill assessment parameter will become more imperative.

Résumé :
In view of the frequent presence of several aging-related diseases in geriatric patients, there is a need to develop analytical methodologies that would be able to perform diagnostic evaluation of several diseases at once by individual or combined evaluation parameters and select the most informative parameters or parameter combinations. So far there have been no established formal methods to enable such capabilities. We develop a new formal method for the evaluation of multiple age-related diseases by calculating the informative values (normalized mutual information) of particular parameters or parameter combinations on particular diseases, and then combine the ranks of informative values to provide an overall estimation (or correlation) on several diseases at once. Using this methodology, we evaluate a geriatric cohort, with several common age-related diseases, including cognitive and physical impairments (dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease—COPD and ischemic heart disease), utilizing a set of evaluation parameters (such as demographic data and blood biomarkers) routinely available in geriatric clinical practice. This method permitted us to establish the most informative parameters and parameter combinations for several diseases at once. Combinations of evaluation parameters were shown to be more informative than individual parameters. This method, with additional clinical data, may help establish the most informative parameters and parameter combinations for the diagnostic evaluation of multiple age-related diseases and enhance specific assessment for older multi-morbid patients and treatments against old-age multimorbidity.

Résumé :
This paper addresses the issue of how to get the optimal tracking parameter matching scheme. At first it establishes the comprehensive evaluation system of target tracking parameter matching scheme which includes four indexes such as capturing probability, getting probability and so on. Then based on the AHP it brings forward the evaluation method based on multi-index decision making to realize the optimized scheme evaluation. Because of the number and level of the parameters, there are numerous parameter matching schemes. So it utilized Uniform Design to optimize simulation experiment number and calculated optimized parameters matching scheme by generalized regression equation. At last, the design examples present the validity and practicability of this method on solving the problems of key target tracking parameter matching scheme.

Résumé :
Research shows that the accurate acquisition of flight parameters of the plant protection UAV and accurate evaluation of flight parameter quality have great significance for improving the effect and precision of spraying. In order to further improve the accuracy of the flight parameter quality evaluation of the plant protection UAV, this study conducted an evaluation and experiment of the flight parameter quality of the plant protection UAV using a laser tracker. The experimental results showed that the current plant protection UAV used the average altitude and speed of the onboard sensors to determine whether it reached the preset flight operation parameters, but this interpretation method could not accurately reflect the actual flight situation. Laser trackers could obtain more accurate flight parameters, especially instantaneous flight parameters. Compared with the laser tracker, the flight trajectory, altitude, and speed of the UAV reflected by onboard sensors were erroneous and tended to be smooth and stable. This method can obtain more accurate flight parameters, improve the accuracy of the flight parameter quality evaluation of the plant protection UAV, and provide data support and a reference for the precision spraying and performance improvement of the plant protection UAV.

Résumé :
Cache attacks exploit the hardware vulnerabilities inherent to modern processors and pose a new threat to Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Intuitively, different cache parameter configurations directly impact the attack effectiveness, but the current research on this issue is not systematic or comprehensive enough. This paper’s primary focus is to evaluate how different cache parameter configurations affect access-driven attacks. We build a flexible and configurable simulation verification environment based on the Chipyard framework. To reduce the interference of other factors, we established a baseline for each category of parameter evaluation. We propose a novel evaluation model, called Key Score Scissors Differential (KSSD), for evaluating common private and shared cache parameters under the local and cross-core attack models, respectively; among these are private cache replacement policy, private cache capacity, cache line size, private cache associativity, shared cache capacity, and shared cache associativity. Ours is the first evaluation of the shared cache under a cross-core attack model. As a result of the evaluation, the quantitative metrics can provide a reliable indication of information leakage level under the current cache configuration, which is helpful for attackers, defenders, and evaluators. Furthermore, we provide detailed explanations and discussions of inconsistent findings by comparing our results with the existing literature.

HighlightsComfort evaluation and position parameter optimization of the clutch pedal were conducted.A comprehensive evaluation system was established for sitting comfort and operating comfort.A single-factor test and a response surface optimization test were carried out.Pedal inclination and its left-right distance synergistically influenced operating comfort.Abstract. The clutch pedal is the most frequently used control device in agricultural machinery and is an important component that affects operating comfort and safety. This study focused on the comfort evaluation and position parameter optimization of the clutch pedal based on a multi-degree-of-freedom test platform of an agricultural machinery cab. First, the H point (hip point) was determined based on a human body model of the operator’s sitting posture as a reference. Two position parameters were then determined: the pedal inclination angle, and the left-right distance of the pedal relative to the operator’s centerline. On this basis, a comprehensive evaluation system for sitting comfort and operating comfort was established. Single-factor tests were used to determine the comfort range and optimal levels of the two position parameters. A response surface optimization was then performed to determine the optimal parameter combination, and a first-order regression model of the response surface was established and corrected using the variance analysis method. The analysis results showed that the pedal inclination angle and its interaction with the left-right distance had a significant effect on comfort (a = 0.05). Based on the evaluation results, the mechanism underlying the influence of the position parameters on pedal comfort was analyzed. Finally, optimization and verification of the pedal position parameters were performed. The results showed that the expected comprehensive score for pedal comfort was 0.831, with an average relative error of 3.64% from the measured value, indicating that the optimization of the position parameters was reliable. The findings of this study may provide a reference for the optimal design of clutch pedals in agricultural machinery. Résumé :
The article presents the ground of developing the 50-point scale for evaluating cakes by organoleptic parameters. The aim of the article is to create the new point scale of organoleptic evaluation for using at producing organic cakes. It was established, that for today such important parameters as “flavor”, “post-flavor”, “porosity structure” are not always used at the organoleptic evaluation of cakes’ quality. The article describes the recipes of four developed cakes, produced of the organic raw materials – “Grechanyk”, based on buckwheat flour, “Zhytnytsa’, based on rye flour, “Golden amaranth”, based on amaranth flour and “Hempen delight”, based on hempen flour. For evaluating organoleptic characteristics of cakes, there was presented 50-point scale that includes evaluation of the following parameters: form, surface condition, color of crust, condition and color of crumble, porosity structure, smell, taste, flavor, post-taste, malaxation of crumble. Based on the method of expert evaluations, there were determined significance coefficients for each parameter. Thus, coefficient 0,5 was set for the parameters “porosity structure” and 1,5 for “color” and “smell”, the significance coefficient was equal 1 for a series of other parameters. The developed scale provided the following criteria of cakes evaluation: 45–50 points − "perfectly”, 40–44 points − "well", 30–39 points − "satisfactorily”, lower 30 points – “unsatisfactorily”. Based on the developed scale, the developed cakes were evaluated by the gustatory commission. All developed cakes corresponded to the mark “perfectly” by organoleptic parameters. The highest index of the quality level was inherent to the cake “Grechanyk” " – 0,99 at general sum of points for the gustatory evaluation 49,95. The cake Zhytnytsa corresponded to 0,98 by the quality level, "Hempen delight" – 0,96. The lowest quality level was detected in the cake “Golden amaranth” (0,94),that is caused by the specific taste of amaranth flour.

Résumé :
Abstract Land surface models (LSMs) and hydrologic models are parameterized models. The number of involved parameters is often large. Sensitivity analysis (SA) is a key step to understand the complex relationships between parameters and between state variables and parameters. SA is also critical to understand system dynamics and to examine the parameter identifiability. In this paper, parameter SA for a fully coupled, physically based, distributed land surface hydrologic model, namely, the Flux–Penn State Integrated Hydrologic Model (Flux–PIHM), is performed. Multiparameter and single-parameter tests are performed to examine the three dimensions of identifiability: distinguishability, observability, and simplicity. Results show that Flux–PIHM model predictions of discharge, water table depth, soil moisture, land surface temperature, and surface heat fluxes are very sensitive to the selection of parameter values. Parameter uncertainties produce large uncertainties in hydrologic and land surface variable predictions. The van Genuchten parameters α and β and the Zilitinkevich parameter Czil are the most identifiable among the 20 tested parameters. Results indicate that the land surface and the subsurface are closely coupled. Hydrologic parameters have significant influence on land surface simulations. At the same time, land surface parameters have considerable impacts on hydrologic simulations; the evapotranspiration prediction prior to a strong precipitation event is critical for initializing accurate prediction of discharge peaks. Results also show that parameter identifiability depends on seasons and canopy wetness. Parameter identifiability at high and low flow conditions can be extremely different. Complex system dynamics have been revealed during the SA.

Résumé :
In our case study, we measured the functional diversity of the microbial communities of twelve soils from the small natural area to assess if this assay is suitable for routine monitoring of soil biological quality. We found the BIOLOG assay meets especially practical benefits in routine monitoring of soils being simple and quick assay. However, we confirmed the ambiguity about the most appropriate analysis of the BIOLOG multivariate data and about the best parameter, which can be derived from the assay. The different analyses of the data were examined and various parameters derived from the BIOLOG assay were comparatively used to contribute to the discussion of how the data should be evaluated. We showed that not-normalized raw absorbances or trapezoid areas should be used for calculation of diversity index if the inoculum was standardized. There was no single answer to what parameter provided more correct results in the multivariate statistical analysis. Evaluating at least one not-normalized (e.g. trapezoid area) and one normalized parameter (e.g. absorbances read in fixed AWCD) was strongly suggested keeping in mind that they reveal different information.
