Résumé :
AbstractThe flat oyster Ostrea edulis has declined significantly in European waters since the 1850s as a result of anthropogenic activity. Ostrea edulis was designated a UK Biodiversity Action Plan Species and Habitat in 1995, and as a Feature of Conservation Importance (FOCI) within the UK Marine & Coastal Access Act 2009. To promote the recovery of oyster beds, a greater understanding of its abundance and distribution is required. Distribution of O. edulis across the proposed Blackwater, Crouch, Roach and Colne MCZ in Essex was determined between 2008 and 2012. Ostrea edulis were present in four estuary zones; with highest sample abundance in the Blackwater and Ray Sand zones. Size structure of populations varied, with the Ray Sand and Colne zones showing a significant lack of individuals with shell height <39 mm. Ostrea edulis occurred in highest number on shell substratum, followed by silty sediments. There were no significant associations between O. edulis abundance or size structure with water column Chl a, suspended solids, oxygen, nitrate or ammonium concentrations, temperature or pH. Highest abundance and most equitable population shell-size distribution for O. edulis were located within, or adjacent to, actively managed aquaculture zones. This suggests that traditional seabed management contributed to the maintenance or recovery of the species of conservation concern. Demonstration that the Essex estuaries were a stronghold for Ostrea edulis in the southern North sea area led to the designation of the Blackwater, Crouch, Roach and Colne estuaries Marine Conservation Zone in 2013.

Theobjectiveof our work was to assess the prevalence of prehypertension (PHT) and the relationship with cardiovascular risk factors in the population sample of the inhabitants of the Russian Federation.Design and methods. The ESSE-RF study was carried out in 12 regions of the Russian Federation (Volgograd, Vologda, Voronezh, Vladivostok, Ivanovo, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Orenburg, Tomsk, Tyumen, St Petersburg, and North Ossetia (Alania)) with different climatic, geographic, economic and demographic characteristics. A stratified random sample was formed in each region. In total, 20652 inhabitants of the Russian Federation aged 25–65 years were examined. All participants signed informed consent and completed approved questionnaires regarding behavioral risk factors, socioeconomic status and concomitant diseases/therapy. Anthropometry, fasting blood sampling, measurement of blood pressure (BP) were performed. BP was measured by the OMRON device (Japan) twice on the right arm in the sitting position with calculation of the mean BP. The optimal blood pressure corresponds to the BP level < 120/80 mm Hg. The normal BP is 120–129/80–84 mm Hg. High normal BP is 130–139/85–89 mm Hg. PHT is diagnosed in case of BP 120–139/80–89 mm Hg. Hypertension is diagnosed case of BP ≥ 140/90 mm Hg or antihypertensive therapy. PHT includes groups of normal and high normal blood pressure. The statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS Statistics 20.Results.Data of 20607 participants were analyzed, among them 7806 men (37,9 %) and 12801 women (62,1 %). The optimal BP was registered in 3848 (23,4 %), normal BP in 3551 (20,1 %), high normal BP in 2861 (14,9 %), PHT — in 6412 (35,0 %), hypertension — in 10347 (41,6 %). The prevalence is standardized according to the age structure of the World Health Organization (2000). Among men, compared with women, PHT was significantly more frequent (41,2 % and 30,1 %, respectively). The probability of PHT, adjusted for sex, age and obesity is associated with hypercholesterolemia > 4,9 mmol / l (OR 1,27 [1,15, 1,39]), increased HDL > 3,0 mmol / l (1,25 [1,14, 1,37]), triglycerides > 1,7 mmol / l (OR 1,39 [1,23, 1,58]), hyperglycemia ≥ 5,6 mmol / l (OR 1,46 [1,28, 1,67], p < 0,05). The presence of higher education reduced the likelihood of PHT, behavioral risk factors were not significant predictors.Conclusions.The results demonstrate the high prevalence of PHT and the association of metabolic abnormalities with the transformation of optimal blood pressure in PHT, which emphasizes the importance of timely diagnosis of PHT and correction of cardiometabolic risk factors in the Russian population.

Résumé :
Aim. To evaluate the relationship of prehypertension (preHTN) with vascular wall damage and decreased renal function depending on cardiovascular risk in a representative sample of Russian population.Material and methods. As a part the ESSE-RF study in 4 regions (St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Tyumen, the Republic of North Ossetia), 7042 participants aged 25-64 were additionally examined for state of vessels. All participants signed informed consent and completed the approved questionnaires. Anthropometry, fasting glucose and blood pressure (BP) levels were assessed. BP was measured by the OMRON monitor (Japan) twice on the right hand in a sitting position; average BP was calculated. The optimal BP was considered <120/80 mm Hg, preHTN — 120-139/80-89 mm Hg, HTN — ≥140/90 mm Hg or antihypertensive therapy. The 10-year risk of fatal cardiovascular diseases was determined according to the SCORE charts. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was calculated using the CKD-EPI equation. Investigation of vessels was performed using a vascular screening system VaSera, Fukuda Denshi. Cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) and ankle-brachial index (ABI) was determined. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS Statistics 20.Results. The analysis included data of 6906 participants, among which women predominated (n=4531; 65,6%). An increase in the prevalence of subclinical vascular lesion according to CAVI was detected with a BP increase from optimal to preHTN and HTN (0,06, 0,19 and 0,75, respectively). According to ABI, this pattern was not observed (0,24, 0,22 and 0,54, respectively). The prevalence of ABI <0,9 was greatest in the HTN group and did not significantly differ between patients with preHTN and optimal BP. After the exclusion of 1610 patients belonging to the groups of high and very high cardiovascular risk, the prevalence of subclinical vascular lesion was reevaluated. With a BP increase from optimal to preHTN and HTN in the low-risk groups of cardiovascular events, an increase in the prevalence of subclinical vascular lesions was also observed only according to CAVI (0,11, 0,28 and 0,62, respectively). Due to the low prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the general population (n=7), the analysis of CKD prevalence in groups by BP level was not carried out. According to linear regression analysis (adjusted for sex, age, body mass index, total cholesterol level), significant associations of systolic BP with GFR, CAVI, and ABI were not detected in the groups of optimal BP, preHTN, and HTN.Conclusion. Regardless of cardiovascular risk grade, an increase in the prevalence of subclinical vascular lesions was detected with an increase in BP from optimal to preHTN and HTN only according to CAVI. The prevalence of decreased ABI did not significantly differ between patients with preHTN and optimal BP. No association of GFR reduction with preHTN has been identified.
