Territorial space ecological restoration is a significant way to map the development of “ecological priority, green, and low-carbon” and realize the goal of reducing carbon emissions. Based on the evaluation of the degree of urban ecological resilience restriction, this study aimed to diagnose the key areas of surface–line–point ecological restoration under the guidance of the resilience target by constructing a patch–corridor–matrix ecological network; then, the corresponding repair strategy was proposed. The results showed that (1) there was an obvious core–periphery structure in the resilience restriction intensity of the Chengdu–Chongqing region, showing a gradual decreasing trend from Chengdu and Chongqing to the surrounding cities; (2) the regional ecological network, including 17 ecological source patches and 33 potential ecological corridors, was identified; and (3) the diagnosed key areas of ecological restoration were composed of surface–line–point multiscale spatial morphology, including 7793.81 km2 of key areas of ecological source restoration, 380.39 km of key areas of ecological corridor restoration, and 29 key areas of ecological pinch point restoration. The construction of ecological restoration strategies with carbon neutralization as the core idea at different scales was realized. The research can provide a reference for scientifically identifying key areas of ecological restoration in territorial space, coordinating and planning major projects of ecological restoration, and optimizing the allocation of natural resources.

Abnormal events in production plants cost the petrochemical industry billions of dollars annually. In part, these events are difficult to deal with because current interfaces do not adequately inform operators about the state of the process. Ecological human-machine interfaces aim to provide information about higher-level process functions. Several laboratory simulator studies have shown that, in comparison with contemporary process interfaces, ecological interfaces can lead to faster fault detection, better root-cause diagnosis, and more effective control responses. However, an empirical evaluation of these findings for professional operators in more realistic plant settings has been absent from the literature. In this study, two ecological interfaces were created for a representative petrochemical refining process. One was a traditional ecological interface based on a system-based analysis and the other was an ecological interface augmented with additional task-based information. Professional operators used the novel interfaces in an industrial simulator to monitor for, diagnose, and respond to several types of process events. In comparison to operators using the current process interface, participants in both ecological interface conditions showed better control performance, while the participants using the augmented ecological interface provided more accurate fault diagnoses than either of the other two groups. The results shed light on practical implications for the use of ecological interfaces in the process industries.

To provide a theoretical basis for sustainable land resource utilization and a reference for areas with similar natural conditions, an evaluation index for land-based ecological security was constructed based on the Driving force-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) model and the improved analytic hierarchy process (IAHP) and entropy methods, and the land-based ecological security status of Xingtai city from 2006 to 2017 was evaluated. Then, the obstacles to land-based ecological security were diagnosed. The results show that the values of the comprehensive evaluation index of land-based ecological security were 0.28–0.66 in the period from 2006 to 2017. The value of the index of land-based ecological security was low in the first seven years and gradually improved in the last five years of the study period. However, the overall situation was grave, and the ecological security conditions were poor. The main obstacles to land-based ecological security were the usage of pesticides, investment in environmental pollution treatments, the degree of machine cultivation, the rate of cultivation and the usage of fertilizer in Xingtai city. Based on the results of the land-based ecological security evaluation and the main obstacles identified in Xingtai city, this paper proposes management strategies and suggestions for improving land-based ecological security in Xingtai city. The specific proposals are as follows: vigorously develop green agriculture, increase investment in environmental pollution control, increase input in science and technology, and strengthen supervision and management of land use.

Abstract Twenty-one plots of Pinus radiata D. Don were selected for nutritional diagnosis on the basis of parent material (nine different substrates) and climate (Atlantic and Mediterranean). After foliar analysis, nutritional diagnoses were conducted, using the critical level method and the DRIS system. The nutrient content in fresh litter (L horizon) was also measured, and nutrient levels of green pine needles were compared with leaves of three native hardwood species (Quercus ilex L., q. robur L. and Fagus sylvatica L.) growing near each pine plot. In most cases, deciduous trees showed higher nutritional levels than evergreen trees. Foliar levels of Ca were always higher in hardwood trees, irrespective of leaf longevity. Phosphorus (P) deficiency was the most common among pines (eight plots showed severe P deficiency). Nitrogen and magnesium deficiencies were also detected in a few cases. The DRIS system diagnosed a larger number of deficiencies than the critical level method, but after intercalibration both methods gave the same diagnosis. In the plots studied, litter analysis appeared to be an alternative to foliar analysis for P, S, Ca, and Mg diagnosis but not for N or K. For. Sci. 42(2):192-197.

The loess hilly region is a typical ecologically fragile and sensitive area. It is of great significance when measuring the balance between supply and demand of ecosystem services and clarify the relationship between supply and demand of ecosystem services for scientific ecological restoration zoning and realizing regional ecological security and social and economic sustainable development. We take Yuzhong County in the loess hilly region of Longzhong, China as an example; by constructing the matching and coordinating relationship between ecosystem service supply and demand and following the idea of “problem diagnosis—strategic orientation—key optimization”, this paper delimits the ecological restoration zones and proposes corresponding governance strategies. The results show that: (1) The supply and demand of ecosystem services were mainly at a low and medium level, with significant spatial heterogeneity. Overall, the spatial pattern of ecosystem services showed high supply and low demand in the southwest mountainous areas and showed low supply and high demand in the urban gully areas of Yuzhong. (2) There were four types of spatial matching of ecosystem service supply and demand: HH type, LH type, LL type, and HL type. The local spatial autocorrelation of supply and demand was dominated by high-low or low-high spatial misadjustment. The average degree of coordination between supply and demand of ecosystem services was 0.629, indicating that supply and demand were basically coordinated. (3) The ecological restoration zones in Yuzhong County can be divided into six categories: the ecological core protection area, ecological potential restoration area, key ecological restoration area, soil and water conservation restoration area, ecological agriculture development area, and ecological innovation promotion area. The results of this study can provide ideas for the refined management and targeted restoration practice of regional ecosystem services. It provides a strong guarantee for ecosystem management and decision-making in the loess hilly region.

Abstract This paper reports an application of vector analysis to interpret temporal interrelationships between plant biomass and nutrient status with time, as demonstrated using young mesquite (Prosopis chilensis) seedlings. Conventional (single dose or constant top dressing), and exponential (pure or modified exponential) fertilization schedules were used to induce contrasting plant nutrient status in the seedlings over a 12 wk growing season. Progressions in nutrient status showed that conventional fertilization resulted in nutrient dilution whereas pure exponential fertilization achieved steady-state nutrient conditions after an initial deficiency. The modified exponential schedule attained steady-state nutrition for most of the experimental period. These trends were similar for all the three elements (N, P, and K). This study demonstrated that dynamic time dependent responses such as steady-state nutrient conditions, nutrient dilution, and accumulation can be identified using traditional vector analysis provided a fourth variable, time (t), is introduced. This approach also allows simultaneous comparisons of multiple elements on the same nomogram, facilitating assessment of differential nutrient absorption during seedling development. For. Abstract If ecosystem management replaces traditional multiple-use management on national forests, changes must be made in the delineation of forest stands reflecting ecological uniformity rather than cover type or physiographic uniformity. With delineation of ecological land units must come an understanding of forest community response to silvicultural practices and other disturbance within these units. The objective of this study was to define forest community characteristics of ecological land type phases (ELTPs) or uniform, repeatable communities in the eastern Central Hardwood Forest. Forest inventory data were collected from 80 plots along a moisture gradient in the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. This gradient intersected recognized upland hardwood forest cover types which, with delineation by soil type, physiography, and indicator vegetation, could be classified into uniform ecological land type phases. Stand density, basal area, volume, standing biomass, productivity, species composition, and site index values for major species were compared among ELTPs using analysis of variance. Results indicate that significant differences in these parameters exist among different ELTPs which once were classified all as "upland hardwoods." Standing basal area, volume, biomass, and annual basal area, volume, and biomass increments were significantly different among ELTPs. Dry slopes and dry ridges were the least productive units. Dry-mesic slopes and dry-mesic ridges proved most suited for white oak management, one of the most valuable species in the region. Ecological Interface Design (EID) is a recent philosophy for designing the visual displays of human-machine interfaces. An EID interface displays the higher-order relations and properties of a work domain so that adaptive operator problem solving is better supported for both normal and abnormal system conditions. Previous empirical studies of EID have assumed that the raw data required to derive and communicate the higher-order information would be available and reliable. The present research empirically evaluates the impact of having incomplete data on the effectiveness of an EID interface, compared to a more traditional piping and instrumentation interface. The research also addresses recent criticism directed at previous empirical studies of EID is also addressed. Results suggest that diagnostic performance using an ecological interface is compromised only when the interface is supported by a minimal set of instrumentation. However, an ecological interface supported by maximal instrumentation, on average, leads to the best diagnostic performance.

The 800 census enumeration districts of Nottingham were used as a basis for the production of 12 distinct ‘clusters’ or neighbourhood types. Plotting the place of residence of the 68 patients with ‘certain’ or ‘very likely’ diagnoses of ICD-9 schizophrenia, identified in the World Health Organization Study of Determinants of Outcome of Severe Mental Disorders, showed the expected concentration in central areas of low social status. A more varied distribution was found for 132 patients with a case-register diagnosis of affective psychosis, contacting the psychiatric services for the first time during the same two-year period as the schizophrenic patients. Some of the highest rates for affective psychosis were found in new housing estates of middle and low status at some distance from the town centre.

The ecological quality of Dohou Lake in Duékoué was determined from the phytoplankton community and physico-chemical parameters. All of the stations in Dohou Lake are dominated by Cyanobacteria and Bacillariophyta individuals, with high monthly proportions observed during the study period. Ecological indicators such as total phosphorus, transparency and chlorophyll made it possible to assess the physico-chemical quality of the environment. Thus, mean total phosphorus values ranged from 970 to 1150 µg/L from station D7 to station D6. Minimum transparency values ranged from 0.1 to 0.5 m from station D7 to D3, and mean values ranged from 0.3 m (station D7) to 0.69 m (station D1). For chlorophyll a, mean values ranged from 3.52 µg/L to 12.98 µg/L from station D7 to station D2, with maximum values for this parameter ranging from 13.4 µg/L (station D7) to 46.73 µg/L (station D2). All of the stations on Dohou lake are therefore in an eutrophic state. The monthly variations in the different proportions of phytoplankton groups observed indicate a clear predominance of Cyanobacteria followed by Bacillariophyta. The values of the Planktonic Index (PI) indicate that the stations are in average ecological condition, except for station D7, which is in poor ecological condition. These ecological qualities are reflected by the spatial and temporal dominance of 4 functional groups which are C, LM, K, and S1.

Mining activity combines industrialization, urbanization, and urban-rural integration in the compound area of mine agriculture urban. The land ecological environment has become a major hidden problem, restricting the sustainable development and ecological security of the region. It is imminent to understand the spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics of land ecological quality and its obstacle factors to scientifically carry out land ecological restoration. Here, the Macun coal area in Jiaozuo City, Central China, was selected for the case study, and an evaluation index system including four criteria layers of ecological foundation, structure, benefit, and stress was established. The multiperiod evaluation index data were acquired by utilizing remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technology. Based on the multi-objective comprehensive evaluation method, a comprehensive evaluation of land ecological quality was conducted, and the spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics of land ecological quality were explored. Moreover, an obstacle factor diagnosis model was constructed to confirm the spatiotemporal differentiation characteristics of obstacle factors affecting the change of the land ecological quality in the study zone. The results showed the following: (1) From 1980 to 2020, the land ecological quality index in the study zone showed a downward trend, and the proportion of the regional area with general and poor land ecological quality increased from 6.55% to 35.02%. (2) The areas with lower land ecological quality in each period of the study zone were mainly distributed in the mining areas with long mining history in the west and the areas with continuous urbanization and industrialization in the south. In contrast, the compound area of mine agriculture urban with short mining history in the east and southeast had higher land ecological quality. The aggregation of the land ecological quality index also showed similar spatial distribution characteristics. (3) The diagnosis results of obstacle factors showed that, due to the poor land ecological foundation and interference of mining activities, the land ecological quality of the mountain area in the north and west of the study area has been low. It is suggested that the land ecological quality of the area should be improved through measures such as terrain regulation, soil reconstruction, afforestation, and forest land conservation. Under the influence of mining activities and the continuous promotion of urbanization in the south of the study area, the regional ecological quality has been reduced. It is suggested that the regional land ecological quality should be improved by building ecological agriculture and ecological communities. The northeast of the study area is still in the mining area, and the ecological quality of the land tends to deteriorate. The ecological restoration in this area should be conducted by the combination of pre-mining planning, while-mining control, and post-mining restoration. The methodology of this study can provide reference for the identification and restoration of land ecological problems in the compound area of mine agriculture urban.

Natural resources are scarce in the Loess Plateau, and the ecological environment is fragile. Sustainable development requires special attention to resource and environmental carrying capacity (RECC). This study selected 24 representative cities in five natural areas of the Loess Plateau; used the entropy-weight-based TOPSIS method to evaluate and analyze the RECC of each city and region from 2013 to 2018; established a diagnosis model to identify the obstacle factors restricting the improvement of RECC; and constructed the theoretical framework of the RECC system mechanism. The results show that the RECC of the Loess Plateau is increasing in general but is relatively small. The environmental and social subsystems have the highest and lowest carrying capacities, respectively. There is an evident contradiction between economic development and the environment. Population density, investment in technological innovation, per capita sown area, and per capita water resources are the main obstacles affecting the improvement of RECC in the Loess Plateau. Such evaluations and diagnoses can support ecological civilization and sustainable development.

Syphilis, toxoplasmosis, and cytomegalovirus represent disparate entities. The bacterial spirochaete Treponema pallidum ssp. pallidum causes syphilis, the ‘The Great Imitator'; the organism's sole natural host is humans and it remains exquisitely sensitive to penicillin. By contrast, the zoonotic parasite Toxoplasma gondii causes toxoplasmosis. Infection is usually self-limited, although serious disease can occur in the immunocompromised. Meanwhile, the human cytomegalovirus (CMV; human herpesvirus 5) is a relatively prevalent enveloped DNA betaherpesvirus with infection specific to humans. Despite nomenclatural, ecological and therapeutic disparities, however, these agents exhibit several concordances, including various, and at times, cryptic syndromes in child and often mother; congenital infections with potentially devastating outcomes; diagnostic dilemmas. This article primarily discusses the latter of these issues in relationship to congenital syphilis and toxoplasmosis in the Australian context.

The paper applied the concepts of Landscape health from the literature review with integration in depth-interview, using the Fuzzy Delphi, Fuzzy Analytic Network Process to develop the River Landscape Health Assessment Indicator System (RLHAIS). The assessment indicators system includes the indicator in 3 aspects, that is, physical and chemical environment indicators, landscape change indicators, ecological environment indicators, and 14 indexes, which were then applied to the RLHAIS to analyze the current landscape health for the Dong-shan River upstream in Yilan. The result showed that the score of Dong-shan River upstream: in 2009 was 0.70881, in 2010 was 0.66235, and in 2011 was 0.68694, implying that the healthy level nearly fell onto the "Degraded" state.

In Romania, the vine farms are currently spread on approximately 180.000 ha, therefore an important part of biodiversity, functional or planned is present. To avoid a biodiversity decline it is necessary for the vineyards to have a clear evidence of the state of their biodiversity.Based on the results obtained from the studied vineyards, during 2015, the agro-ecological infrastructure or AEI percent based on the actual area occupied varies between 7% and 35%. Evaluation of the implementation AEI during 2015 in wine-growing farms in Romania showed that the amount of semi-natural elements is not sufficient to stop the loss of biodiversity and their quality needs to be favored also.

Aquatic products, as essential sources of protein, have attracted considerable concern by producers and consumers. Precise fish disease prevention and treatment may provide not only healthy fish protein but also ecological and economic benefits. However, unlike intelligent two-dimensional diagnoses of plants and crops, one of the most serious challenges confronted in intelligent aquaculture diagnosis is its three-dimensional space. Expert systems have been applied to diagnose fish diseases in recent decades, allowing for restricted diagnosis of certain aquaculture. However, this method needs aquaculture professionals and specialists. In addition, diagnosis speed and efficiency are limited. Therefore, developing a new quick, automatic, and real-time diagnosis approach is very critical. The integration of image-processing and computer vision technology intelligently allows the diagnosis of fish diseases. This study comprehensively reviews image-processing technology and image-based fish disease detection methods, and analyzes the benefits and drawbacks of each diagnostic approach in different environments. Although it is widely acknowledged that there are many approaches for disease diagnosis and pathogen identification, some improvements in detection accuracy and speed are still needed. Constructing AR 3D images of fish diseases, standard and shared datasets, deep learning, and data fusion techniques will be helpful in improving the accuracy and speed of fish disease diagnosis.

Analysis of land use sustainability (LUS) coupling socioeconomic and ecological systems has drawn the interest of researchers and decision-makers concerned with sustainable development. Exploring the relationships between land use systems can offer a coordinated route for localized and effective land governance strategies. We proposed a new theoretical framework for LUS considering coordinated development between socioeconomy and ecology. We applied it further to the Xiongan New Area, typical of a new region with government-led construction in eastern China, to explore in depth the coupling and coordination relationship among land use systems and their driving factors. Results revealed that: (1) ecological sustainability grew while socioeconomic sustainability declined in most areas of Xiongan New Area during 2010–2020 at the township level, (2) relationships among land use systems in 2010–2020 showed a trend of coordinated development, but generally, their coordination was still only at a primary and moderate level, with a shift from prominent ecological lag to prominent socioeconomic lag, (3) economic factors are critical to the coordinated development of land use systems, while the influence of ecological factors is also increasing, and (4) four development types were identified for the towns: coupling and developed, coupling and undeveloped, tradeoff and developed, and tradeoff and undeveloped. Policymakers can better appreciate the importance of government interventions in future land use planning in terms of sustainable development with the help of land use zoning optimization and sustainable land governance.

Background. The Argentia region of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, was home to a US naval base during a 40-year period between the 1940s and the 1990s. Activities on the base resulted in contamination of the soil and groundwater in the region with chemicals such as heavy metals and dioxins, and residents have expressed concern about higher rates of cancer in their community. This study investigated the rate of cancer diagnosis that is disproportionately high in the Argentia region.Methods. Cases of cancer diagnosed between 1985 and 2011 were obtained for the Argentia region, two comparison communities, and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Crude and age-standardized incidence rates of cancer diagnosis were calculated and compared. The crude incidence rate was adjusted for differences in age demographics using census data, and age-standardized incidence rates were compared.Results. Although the Argentia region had a higher crude rate of cancer diagnosis, the age-standardized incidence rate did not differ significantly from the comparison communities or the provincial average. Argentia has an aging population, which may have influenced the perception of increased cancer diagnosis in the community.Conclusions. We did not detect an increased burden of cancer in the Argentia region.

In recent years, interest has grown in measuring executive function in schizophrenia with ecological and virtual reality (VR) tools. However, there is a lack of critical analysis comparing those tools with traditional ones. This paper aims to characterize executive dysfunction in schizophrenia by comparing ecological and virtual reality assessments with traditional tools, and to describe the neurobiological and psychopathological correlates. The analysis revealed that ecological and VR tests have higher levels of verisimilitude and similar levels of veridicality compared to traditional tools. Both negative symptoms and disorganization correlate significantly with executive dysfunction as measured by traditional tools, but their relationships with measures based on ecological and VR methods are still unclear. Although there is much research on brain correlates of executive impairments in schizophrenia with traditional tools, it is uncertain if these results will be confirmed with the use of ecological and VR tools. In the diagnosis of executive dysfunction, it is important to use a variety of neuropsychological methods—especially those with confirmed ecological validity—to properly recognize the underlying characteristics of the observed deficits and to implement effective forms of therapy.

Instream ecological flow is an essential determinant of river health. Intra- and interannual distribution characteristics of runoff have been altered to different degrees by dam construction. Historical runoff series with alterations, as basic data for ecological flow calculation, provide minimal instream hydrological process information, which affects the credibility of calculation results. Considering the influence of the alterations in runoff series on ecological flow calculation, the Gini coefficient (GI) is introduced to study the evenness degrees of the intra-annual runoff distribution of four hydrological stations located in the Naolihe basin of the Sanjiang Plain. The hydrological alteration diagnosis system is used to examine the alteration points in the GI series of each hydrological station for selecting reasonable subsequences. Based on the selected subsequences, the ecological flow of each station is calculated using three hydrological methods, and the comprehensive ecological flow is calculated using weighted calculation results from the three hydrological methods. The study results show that ecological flow and natural flow have similar processes with two peaks occurring in the process in May and August, respectively. Also, dams decrease the ecological water requirement damage frequency in dry seasons, but overuse of water resources increases the ecological water requirement damage frequency in flood seasons.

Numerous studies have demonstrated that a complex distribution of water resources, regional development, and management mechanisms create significant management challenges for transboundary river basins. We utilized diagnostic thinking to examine the water management issues of the 14 main transboundary watersheds in three regions (Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest) of China. Our four diagnosis points were water quantity, water quality, ecological stability and human health, and cooperation among watershed stakeholders. We found that the watersheds faced varying water management issues. The Indus and Ganges basins have the worst problems, whereas the Tarim basin’s ecological environment is the most vulnerable and the Ob basin is the fittest. Therefore, depending on each basin’s results, we provide practical water management ideas for each. Furthermore, we summarized and classified the geographical settings of each basin and determined the water management issues in each major region in China. Our results provide direction for both new research on and cooperation with transboundary basin water management.

However, human improper use has brought unprecedented pressure and challenges to the ecosystem. Therefore, the assessment and analysis of land ecological security status and the identification and diagnosis of obstacles affecting land ecological security are helpful to avoid land ecological security problems caused by improper land use at the source and provide a theoretical basis for the sustainable use of land resources and the construction of ecological civilization in China. Based on the data from 2006 to 2020, this study constructed the land ecological risk-evaluation index system and land ecological health-evaluation index system. AHP, entropy method, combination weighting method, TOPSIS model, Boston matrix and obstacle degree model were used to assess the land ecological security situation in Nanyang City and to analyze the obstacle factors. The results show the following: (1) during the study period, the land ecological risk value of Nanyang City exhibited a Kuznets inverted “U” curve change, while the land ecological health value showed a “U” curve change; (2) the overall level of land ecological security in Nanyang City has gradually improved, with a security level pattern of “relatively safe (2006–2020)–unsafe (2011–2016)–relatively safe (2017–2019)–safe (2020)”; (3) the main obstacle factors of land ecosystem were the following: erosion area, sewage discharge, area of waterlogging control, grain sown area, coverage of urban green built-up area and farmland effective irrigated area.

The assessment of the carrying capacity and suitability of spatial resources and the environment can provide effective guidance for regional planning and make vital contributions to the high-quality advancement of society and the economy. Additionally, this scientific evaluation of the spatial carrying capacity and suitability of urban production–living–ecological space (PLES) has important scientific value as well as practical significance for territorial spatial planning. This paper takes the cities along the Yellow River Basin (YRB) as the research object; establishes the PLES resource and environment carrying capacity evaluation index system; uses the multi-indicator superposition method and entropy weight method to evaluate the ecological importance, production and life carrying capacity of 78 cities in the YRB from 2010 to 2020; obtains the final ecological importance, production and life suitability levels based on the carrying capacity combined with the location conditions; and uses exploratory spatial data analysis (ESDA), the barrier degree model and other methods to determine the cities’ spatial and temporal patterns and influencing factors. The findings indicate that: (1) Ecological importance is characterized by “high upstream and low downstream”; the suitability for production is higher mainly in the eastern coastal area; the suitability of life as a whole is increasing, and the higher grade is in some provincial capitals and surrounding cities. (2) The local Moran’s I all passed the test, and the relationship between PLES showed a significant positive spatial correlation. The clustering characteristics of ecological importance and production suitability are strong, while the clustering characteristics of suitability for living functions are relatively weak. (3) Biodiversity, significance of water conservation and significance of wind and grit control functions are the main barrier factors affecting the ecological importance of the YRB; industrial value-added output per unit of industrial land, number of industrial enterprises above the scale and GDP per capita are the dominant factors affecting the production suitability of the study area; total water-resource utilization per capita, total sewage treatment per capita and residential land area per capita are the main barrier factors of living suitability.

Objectives: To validate the ecological modification of the Papanicolaou stain (Eco-Pap) for the diagnosis of cervical cancer. Study Design: A prospective study was performed at the Mother and Child “San Bartolomé” Hospital, Lima, Peru. Reagent handling strategies were divided into three phases: we used (1) Harris progressive hematoxylin (for nuclear staining), (2) a polychromatic solution (a mix of EA-36/Orange G-6 to suppress the use of several alcohol baths), and (3) direct mounting (with Entellan® solution). The cellular details were analyzed by the staining quality index, an external quality control, and the Bethesda System 2014. Results: We evaluated 72,901 cervical smears stained with the Eco-Pap. The validation of the Eco-Pap against the conventional Pap stain was optimal (κ = 0.89; 95% CI: 0.87–0.92), showing a sensibility and specificity of 88.3% (95% CI: 85.1–90.0) and 98.7% (95% CI: 98–99.2), respectively. The Eco-Pap dramatically reduced the environmental pollution caused by 72 L of xylene, hydrochloric acid, and ammonia (6 L each) and mercury oxide. Conclusion: The Eco-Pap is an innovative and efficient staining method reducing the use of toxic reagents with carcinogenic potential during cervical cancer screening by exfoliative cytology.

Land ecological security (LES) is a cornerstone of sustainable development, and the study of the LES evaluation has become a hot field in the LES problems. The coordinated development of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region is one of China’s national development strategies. With the development of urbanization and industrialization, the conflicts between people and land in this area are increasingly prominent, and there are large regional differences in land ecological quality. To evaluate the land ecological security (LES) of this region, an evaluation index system is constructed based on the pressure–state–response (PSR) framework model, and the entropy-weighted TOPSIS method is applied to calculate the LES index. Then, the spatio-temporal changes of LES in the BTH region from 2007 to 2018 are analyzed. In addition, we adopt an obstacle degree model to analyze the obstacle indicators. The results show that the LES of the BTH region increased from 0.1934 to 0.3284 during 2007–2018, and the LES level increased from the dangerous level (I) to the critical level (III). Despite the improved LES in all areas in the BTH region, there were different trends (high in the central area, relatively low in the northern and southern areas). We identified seven obstacle indicators and discussed different development strategies. Our findings will provide guidelines for land use management and offer references for the coordinated development of the BTH region.

The coastal zone is where marine and terrestrial elements interact. The Integrated Management of Marine Coastal Zones (iczm) is a holistic and participatory process that aims to achieve sustainable use and protection of these areas and their resources. This involves collaboration among various user groups and authorities at national, regional, and local levels, taking into account ecological, social, cultural, and economic aspects. The objective of this publication is to assess Nicaragua’s iczm, using the methodology proposed by Barragán (2003, 2005 y 2014), which is based on a “Decalogue” and is applied to evaluate and compare the situation of coastal zones at three levels of government. Tourism poverty alleviation and ecological environments are closely associated with each other’s dissipation structure, which contains various coordinated and noncoordinated coupling states. Based on the perspective of reverse thinking and problem diagnosis, this paper constructs a bridge from uncoordinated pathology to coordinated development. From the perspective of incongruity, the framework model and evaluation index system of tourism poverty alleviation and ecological environments incongruity coupling coordination driving mechanism are constructed. Also, the variation coefficient method is used to calculate the weight of each evaluation index and the coupling relationship and evolution of tourism poverty alleviation and ecological environments in Liupanshui city are analyzed by the noncoordination coupling function. The results suggest the following: (1) During the study period, the poverty alleviation level of tourism in Liupanshui city presents a continuous growth curve. Meanwhile, ecological environment development level depicts rapid growth initially and then slows down and improves further. In this way, it shows different stage characteristics from the tourism poverty alleviation level. (2) The discordant coupling between tourism poverty alleviation and ecological environments in Liupanshui city shows a decreasing curve. So, the noncoordinated development relationship between tourism poverty alleviation and ecological environments is significant.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) appears to be making important advances in the prediction and diagnosis of mental disorders. Researchers have used visual, acoustic, verbal, and physiological features to train models to predict or aid in the diagnosis, with some success. However, such systems are rarely applied in clinical practice, mainly because of the many challenges that currently exist. First, mental disorders such as depression are highly subjective, with complex symptoms, individual differences, and strong socio-cultural ties, meaning that their diagnosis requires comprehensive consideration. Second, there are many problems with the current samples, such as artificiality, poor ecological validity, small sample size, and mandatory category simplification. In addition, annotations may be too subjective to meet the requirements of professional clinicians. Moreover, multimodal information does not solve the current challenges, and within-group variations are greater than between-group characteristics, also posing significant challenges for recognition. In conclusion, current AI is still far from effectively recognizing mental disorders and cannot replace clinicians’ diagnoses in the near future. The real challenge for AI-based mental disorder diagnosis is not a technical one, nor is it wholly about data, but rather our overall understanding of mental disorders in general.
