Résumé :
In pursuing innovation, eco-friendly deliberate practice will inevitably elevate eco-innovation performance without creative self-efficacy and perceived eco-innovation importance to organizations. This eco-friendly deliberate practice–eco-innovation link is essential because it extends current thinking, treating creative self-efficacy as a causal mechanism and perceived eco-innovation importance as the magnifier of eco-innovation performance. Anchored in social cognitive theory, this study aims to investigate the role of eco-friendly deliberate practice in fueling eco-innovation performance through the mediating role of creative self-efficacy and the moderating role of perceived eco-innovation importance. This study collected 367 responses from the service employees in tourism firms in Pakistan using a time-lagged, i.e., three-wave, research design. The authors analyzed data using a variance-based structural equation model processed in SmartPLS (v 4.0). The findings support the hypothesized relationships, for example, that eco-friendly deliberate practice has a significant positive relationship with eco-innovation performance. In addition, creative self-efficacy significantly mediates the association between eco-friendly deliberate practice and eco-innovation performance. Besides, employees’ perceived eco-innovation importance moderates the eco-friendly deliberate practice–eco-innovation link, such that at high(low) levels of perceived eco-innovation importance, the relationship between eco-friendly deliberate practice and eco-innovation performance is more(less) pronounced. The study examines a hitherto unexplored moderated mediation model to explain under which conditions eco-friendly deliberate practice promotes eco-innovation performance through creative self-efficacy and perceived eco-innovation importance.

Résumé :
Abstract The significant increase of population, especially in Indonesia, has an impact on consumption per capita. This phenomenon causes a domino effect on the environment quality. Concern and awareness of consumers towards the environment is important, one alternative that can be done to protect the environment is to use environmentally friendly (eco-friendly) product. Eco-friendly products are currently marked with an eco-label affixed to a product, which indicates that a product is produced with due regard to the principles of environmental sustainability. This study aimed to identify and analysed implementation of eco-label certification on eco-friendly products in Indonesia. This research is based on a literature study of the current implementation of eco-label certification on eco-friendly products. Furthermore, the results showed that various types of eco-label certification have been developed for eco-friendly products in Indonesia. The implementation of eco-label certification has been carried out on several products; generally eco-label certification uses the 14000 series standard as a reference in conducting certification. Eco-label certification is expected to support the goals of the Government of Indonesia in sustainable development. In addition, the trend of demand for eco-friendly products by global consumers will certainly provide competitiveness for Indonesian products while still paying attention to environmental sustainability.

Résumé :
Purpose –Consumers are becoming progressively aware of the significance of eco-friendly activities, and their environmental consciousness drives them to consume eco-friendly products and services more, and prefer to support organisations that favor conservational practices. Increased environmental impacts bring a rise in concerns locally and globally, on sustainability issues aimed at reducing non-conservative consumption patterns. Retail organisations are increasingly developing and marketing eco-friendly retail products to promote sustainable, eco-friendly consumption patterns. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between eco-friendly retail product attributes and South African consumers’ eco-friendly product repurchase intentions.Design/methodology/approach – A survey approach was employed involving 241 consumers in Southern Gauteng. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation analysis were conducted respectively to test the reliability and validity of the scales as well as the proposed hypotheses.Research findings– Retail product consumers’ response to the attributes of eco-friendly products is still important in predicting their eco-friendly product repurchase intentions. South African consumers’ eco-friendly attributes moderate their environmental sensitivity, hence their repurchase intentions.Practical implications – It is not enough to retailers and wholesalers to promote sustainable and recyclable packaging materials. They must also improve eco-friendly product-related attributes to satisfy consumer needs better, and should be cautious in the direct and moderating effect of eco-friendly customer-related attributes in devising marketing plans to promote eco-friendly products.Originality/value – The paper contributes to research by advancing understanding of how consumers make their repurchase intentions of eco-friendly retail products, providing retailers with managerial insights. The paper also presents limitations and directions for future research.

This research compares the eco-friendly habits of Hispanics to the general population based upon self reported activities by residents of California. The findings indicate that Hispanics are participating in eco-friendly activities, which include recycling, buying eco-friendly products, using fewer natural resources, and support green causes. However, they are more likely to only participate in a few of these activities, primarily those around the home and those requiring less personal commitment in time and money. There is a gap between the general population and the Hispanic population where it relates to the sales of green products and services. This discovery represents an opportunity for a call to action to the 50 million United States Hispanic residents on the topics of recycling, natural products and services and causes.

Résumé :
As an energy storage technology, supercapacitors (SCs) have become an important part of many electronic systems because of their high-power density, long cycle life, and maintenance-free characteristics. However, the widespread development and use of electronics, including SCs, have led to the generation of a large amount of e-waste. In addition, achieving compatibility between stability and biodegradability has been a prominent challenge for implantable electronics. Therefore, environmentally friendly SCs based on polypyrrole (PPy)-stabilized polypeptide (FF) are demonstrated in this study. The fully degradable SC has a layer-by-layer structure, including polylactic acid/chitosan (PLA–C) support layers, current collectors (Mg), FF/PPy composite layers, and a polyvinyl alcohol/phosphate buffer solution (PVA/PBS) hydrogel. It has the advantages of being light, thin, flexible, and biocompatible. After 5000 cycles in air, the capacitance retention remains at up to 94.7%. The device could stably operate for 7 days in a liquid environment and completely degrade in vitro within 90 days without any adverse effect on the environment. This work has important implications for eco-friendly electronics and will have a significant impact on the implantable biomedical electronics.

Résumé :
This study focuses on evaluating the field performance of a newly developed eco-friendly precast concrete slab track structure for railway/subway systems in Seoul, South Korea. Although Ballasted railway track structures are one of the most common track structures in the railway industry, they have some drawbacks including higher maintenance cost, un-uniform supports, and a high level of noise and vibration. However, a ballastless (slab-based) track structure system requires less maintenance and uniform support conditions, as well as several ballastless structure systems developed for high-speed trains. The Seoul Metro subway in South Korea has developed a ballastless reinforced concrete (RC) slab railway system using a type of conventional concrete. This study presents a ballastless precast concrete slab using a newly developed eco-friendly concrete, which can significantly improve structural performances and the manufacturability of a railway track structure system. This study evaluates the field performance of the eco-friendly concrete slab system deployed in one of the existing tunnel sections of the Seoul Metro subway system. A total of 10 m long slab sections including a 5 m long eco-friendly “ballasted track to slab track (B2S)” panels section and a 5 m long conventional B2S panels section are installed and monitored side by side. Field tests are performed to measure the level of noise, vibration, dynamic wheel load, rail displacement, and rail stress. The field measurements from the eco-friendly B2S section are compared to those of the conventional reinforced concrete slab track systems. The results show that the performance of the new B2S system using the eco-friendly concrete is comparable and/or superior to the conventional system.

Résumé :
Raising environmental awareness and product development are two separate and costly investments that many small and medium-sized fashion businesses cannot afford to achieve sustainability. Therefore, there is a need to determine which factors exert a more significant impact on consumer loyalty and purchase intention toward eco-friendly fashions. Thus, this study employs a mixed-methods approach with thematic analysis and the SEM-PLS technique to research how Vietnamese Gen Z’s perceptions of product-service quality, environmental awareness, and pro-environmental behavior influence their purchase intention and loyalty toward eco-friendly fashion products. Most interviewees acknowledged that they primarily gained knowledge about eco-friendly fashion through social media platforms. The qualitative results further showed that their knowledge of and attitudes toward eco-friendly fashion practices were insufficient to convince young customers to afford eco-friendly fashion products. The SEM-PLS results of 313 participants show that while customers’ perceived behavioral control plays a more significant role in stimulating purchase intention, only product-service quality factors impact loyalty. Hence, this study suggests that businesses should prioritize improving service and product quality rather than funding green marketing when targeting Vietnamese Gen Z in case of financial constraints. Government should prioritize financial and technological support for fashion firms to develop high-quality eco-friendly fashion to ensure the product availability.

Résumé :
PurposeThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has once again brought to our attention one of the three main pillars of sustainability–the environment. It has also brought into sharp relief the fragility of the live music festival sector, whose success hinges fundamentally on the capacity for both travel and mass gatherings to occur. Considering this intersection of environmental sustainability and the live music festival sector, this paper–which reports on events occurring long before the global pandemic took hold–examines the ways in which eight Australian folk and world music festivals successfully engage in eco-friendly and pro-environmental practices and educational activities at their events. Findings from this research will assist industry practitioners in being able to engage in similar practices at their events, as well as further academic understandings of the relationship between the environment and the live music sector, and the role of environmental communication practices within this.Design/methodology/approachThis study engaged an exploratory research design using interviews to gain an insight into the perceptions of eight live music festival promoters regarding their patrons' on-site eco-friendly behaviours and engagement with the eco-friendly initiatives at their events.FindingsSocial support within the on-site festival community (applied here through the notion of a sense of communitas), coupled with the provision of eco-friendly initiatives and effective environmental communication approaches, were key pivot drivers to support patrons' pro-environmental behaviours. Engagement with environmental authorities and experts during the festivals was found to validate their eco-friendly approaches.Originality/valueThis paper provides details of, as well as insights into, the success of the eco-friendly and pro-environmental education practices engaged at select world and folk music festivals in Australia. It broadens and builds upon existing understandings of environmental communication practices.

AbstractIn last years, an increasing attention on environmental matters is registered. Companies face environmental matters to increase the environmental performances of their products, forced by numerous legislations, normative and protocols and induced to the growing attention of consumers toward environmentally friendly products. However, observing the industrial context, it emerges there are several barriers for implementation of eco-design strategies inside design departments. The paper presents a tool which aims at both providing a basic guide on environmental sustainability issues and favouring the knowledge sharing among the different actors of the product design process. The core of the tool is a repository in which company materials, organized and collected in different forms, are collected. The repository contains several parts: training, guidelines, knowledge and milestone, accordingly to the type, structure and form of materials stored. The eco-design tool functions, structure, and workflow are presented and then preliminary test cases are described.

Education for sustainability in early childhood tends to focus on practices and advocacy, rather than on the aims of this education. We suggest that the aim should be to consider children as being and becoming eco-citizens. This suggestion is built on an exploration of children as eco-citizens. With theories concerning child-sized citizenship we suggest a description of children and adults as being and becoming eco-citizen. We explore this through the fields of nature connection and science and children’s curiosity. We find that environmentally friendly practices as gardening and harvesting wild food show how children’s eco-citizenship is realizable. We support this additionally by references to how children’s literature, seeing how children depicted as eco-citizens can support the notion of children as eco-citizens. Through these analyses, we conclude that children should be viewed as being and becoming eco-citizens.

Résumé :
Lipase is an important group of biocatalysts, which combines versatility and specificity, and can catalyze several reactions when applied in a high amount of industrial processes. In this study, the lipase produced by Aspergillus japonicus under submerged cultivation, was immobilized by physical adsorption, using clay supports, namely, diatomite, vermiculite, montmorillonite KSF (MKSF) and kaolinite. Besides, the immobilized and free enzyme was characterized, regarding pH, temperature and kinetic parameters. The most promising clay support was MKSF that presented 69.47% immobilization yield and hydrolytic activity higher than the other conditions studied (270.7 U g−1). The derivative produced with MKSF showed high stability at pH and temperature, keeping 100% of its activity throughout 12 h of incubation in the pH ranges between 4.0 and 9.0 and at a temperature from 30 to 50 °C. In addition, the immobilized lipase on MKSF support showed an improvement in the catalytic performance. The study shows the potential of using clays as support to immobilized lipolytic enzymes by adsorption method, which is a simple and cost-effective process.

Résumé :
Pesticides are essential to contemporary agriculture and are required to safeguard plants from hazardous pests, diseases, and weeds. In addition to harming the environment, overusing these pesticides causes pests to become resistant over time. Alternative methods and agrochemicals are therefore required to combat resistance. A potential solution to pesticide resistance and other issues may be found in nanotechnology. Due to their small size, high surface-area-to-volume ratio, and ability to offer novel crop protection techniques, nanoformulations, primarily biopolymer-based ones, can address specific agricultural concerns. Several biopolymers can be employed to load pesticides, including starch, cellulose, chitosan, pectin, agar, and alginate. Other biopolymeric nanomaterials can load pesticides for targeted delivery, including gums, carrageenan, galactomannans, and tamarind seed polysaccharide (TSP). Aside from presenting other benefits, such as reduced toxicity, increased stability/shelf life, and improved pesticide solubility, biopolymeric systems are also cost-effective; readily available; biocompatible; biodegradable; and biosafe (i.e., releasing associated active compounds gradually, without endangering the environment) and have a low carbon footprint. Additionally, biopolymeric nanoformulations support plant growth while improving soil aeration and microbial activity, which may favor the environment. The present review provides a thorough analysis of the toxicity and release behavior of biopolymeric nanopesticides for targeted delivery in precision crop protection.

Résumé :
The article summarizes the arguments and counterarguments in the scientific discussion on the development of sustainable entrepreneurship. The main purpose of the study is to identify the essential characteristics and key determinants of success of sustainable entrepreneurship initiatives. Systematization of literature sources showed that the current stage of entrepreneurship is characterized by the transition from the concept of maximizing profitability to the formation of long-term sustainability. Existing theoretical and empirical research shows that sustainable entrepreneurship is an activity aimed at balancing economic, social and environmental challenges. The theoretical analysis of the results of basic research on sustainable entrepreneurship has identified a list of key internal and external determinants that contribute to the development of sustainable entrepreneurship. It is determined that the key internal characteristics of the entrepreneur are the level of his motivation and qualification. At the same time, among external factors, the education system, the availability of state environmental and social policy measures, as well as public perception and support of social and environmental initiatives play a significant role in promoting sustainable entrepreneurship. It is established that the existing empirical research revealed the differentiation of results for companies of different sizes and at different stages of operation, as well as depending on the form of ownership and sector of activity. The results of the analysis provide a scientific basis for further research on the key determinants of the effectiveness of sustainable entrepreneurship initiatives, the identification of the most promising sectors for social and environmental initiatives, and the study of links with social, environmental and economic parameters.

Résumé :
Many countries aim to promote low-carbon and eco-friendly development and find a route to sustainable development. For such development, a model that helps design and build appropriate constructions is necessary. Thus, this study is carried out to establish such a model by combining the Delphi method, analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and fuzzy logic theory (FLT) (DAFuzzy model). In the Delphi method, the expert’s opinions are reflected in three dimensions (green facilities, ecological facilities, and community participation) and nine factors (green building materials, photovoltaic power generation, energy-saving equipment (green facilities), green roof, planting/vegetation, rainwater collection/water recycling (ecological facilities), subsidies, resident participation, appropriate norms (community participation)). Then, AHP is used to calculate the relative weight of each factor. Finally, by using FLT, the output value of each factor is calculated to find out the best scenarios and influencing factors for the scenario. The result shows that green facilities are the most important dimension, followed by community participation and ecological facilities. Among 45 different scenarios for the model, the best is to consider green facilities and ecological facilities with community participation. The important factors in the best scenario include photovoltaic power generation, planting/vegetation, energy-saving equipment, green building materials, appropriate norms, rainwater collection/water recycling, subsidies, and green roof. The proposed model is validated with residential houses in Conghua District, Guangzhou city, China. Considering the dimensions and factors of the best scenario, the proposed DAFuzzy model proves that a low-carbon and eco-friendly development requires support with appropriate policies and a large investment. The research result suggests that building a low-carbon and eco-friendly house needs the support of the government and people’s understanding and participation in eco-friendly development.

Résumé :
In recent years, the awareness of sustainable construction has increasingly risen in countries around the world, with the main goal being to avoid depleting energy resources and raw materials and to greatly reduce carbon emissions. Therefore, the selection of eco-friendly building materials becomes a difficult task and choosing the best construction strategy is a complicated process. Most of the studies of the building material selection often focus on optimizing material-related green building scores with budget constraints based on the environmental impacts of those materials. However, these studies do not pay attention to the impact of sustainable materials on two important aspects of a project: The initial investment cost and the total labor-working days. Hence, this study developed a model that optimizes a material mix for buildings considering the building budget, total labor-working days, and material-related green building scores. A case study in Vietnam was conducted to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model. This proposed model provides a guidance for decision-makers in selecting approximate materials for buildings toward sustainability.

Résumé :
Abstract: Ecotourism is a form of tourism which involves delicate and relatively undisturbed natural areas, intended as a smallscale alternative to standard mass tourism. A walk through the forest or trail is not ecotourism unless that particular walk benefits that environment and the people who are involved. Ecotourism can be termed as ‘responsible tourism’ and ‘green tourism’, which focuses upon the responsibility of nature and its green development.[1] This paper studies the concept of eco-tourism and its various aspects which also involves eco-friendly materials. Its purpose is to educate the travellers, to provide funds for ecological conservation, to directly benefit the economic development. The results show that there is a need for eco-design and use of eco-friendly approach, which demands continuous efforts on Tourism Ministry state government, host community and tourists to support and promote Eco-tourism. The purpose of this study is to look at ways in which ecotourism and sustainable development can be evaluated and suggest ways to improve current ecotourism practices. Ecotourism definitions require that the indigenous host community receives the benefits and despite its small-scale and seasonal character, it has the potential to deliver economic benefits on multiple levels

Résumé :
Empowerment is a key factor in accentuating the role of farmer communities as the main actors in managing the cultivation of Indonesian staple food, that is, rice. This study was intended to analyze the factors influencing the empowerment of farmers to manage environmentally friendly lowland rice production for sustainable agricultural development in Banten Province. With a descriptive design, this research collected data through a questionnaire survey involving 180 respondents, sampled from a predefined population of rice farmers. It was carried out in three regencies in the province, namely Serang, Pandeglang, and Lebak, for three months from April to June 2019. The data were analyzed using statistical inference, SEM, in LISREL 8.73 (Linear Structural Relationships). The results showed that the empowerment of lowland rice farmers to adopt eco-friendly innovation was determined by individual characteristics (i.e., non-formal and formal educational attainment and cosmopolitanism) and the existence of encouragement to implement the innovation (i.e., support from farmer community, market support, and technological information support). In conclusion, to increase the empowerment of rice farmers in the scheme of sustainable food security, farmers, government, and other relevant parties need to pay attention to the characteristics of innovation users and promote the adoption of eco-friendly practices in lowland rice cultivation.

Résumé :
Numerous studies in application of modern composite materials show that their advantages can be successfully implemented in manufacturing «smart» products. This study proposes an improved technological method of manufacturing multilayer environmentally friendly products with a variable cross section, which allows us to expand the possibilities of using modern polymer composite materials (PCM). The technology allows manufacturing products of the most complex geometric shapes, such as wind turbine blades. The aim of the study is the technological support of engineering production in the manufacture of multilayer products of variable cross section made from PCM. Scientific novelty consists in identifying the patterns of implementation and management of the manufacturing process of multilayer products of variable cross-section, and establishing the influence of structural and technological parameters of the manufacturing process on their operational characteristics. The relationship between the pressure of a hot directed air stream and the volume fraction of pores in the hardened material of a multilayer composite product with a variable cross section during layer-by-layer application is investigated. During the study, fundamental and applied principles of mechanical engineering technology, material resistance, adhesion theory, mathematical statistics tools and software were used to process the results of the experiment. Based on the results of laboratory studies, a methodology has been developed for effective prediction of pore content in the manufacturing of composite products. The introduction of the presented technology and the corresponding original methodology into production will reduce the complexity and energy costs of manufacturing composite products, improve their quality and reduce the impact of toxic components from composite materials on workers.

Résumé :
Eco-designed products can contribute to sustainable development if consumers choose them rather than the less environmentally friendly alternatives and if they are used properly. However, eco-design methods have so far failed to address the issue of unsustainable behaviors, whose sources have not been recognized. In light of this deficiency, the authors have analyzed a large number of eco-designed products with the aim to capture the possible unsustainable behaviors arising from their use and consumption. The subsequent characterization of unsustainable behaviors has led to the creation of a framework of unsustainable behaviors, which has been subjected to the evaluation of a pool of experts in the field. In its final version, the framework includes nine classes of unsustainable behaviors, which are categorized into the corresponding product lifecycle phases (purchase, use, end of life), and different kinds of undesired effects (harmful, insufficient, excessive) based on the TRIZ-oriented functional analysis. The classes, whose significance has been checked in the literature, include frequent causes of unsustainable behaviors and corresponding examples. Through the framework, designers can take into due account the possible circumstances that would prevent their developed products from being prone to unsustainable behaviors. In a future step, the classes of unsustainable behaviors are to be linked with indications arising from Design for Sustainable Behavior.

Renewable energy sources are the need of the hour, considering climate change’s impact on our planet. Many sources are currently being researched, none of them are commercially stable enough to compete with the existing non-renewable energy sources, with the main reason being performance for the price. We aim to develop a practical system based on the current research progress in infrared-based thermophotovoltaic power generation and storage. Similar systems already exist for harnessing solar energy, but we plan to overcome the inability of solar energy to produce electricity in the absence of sunlight by developing an infrared-based system. Another challenge is the unavailability of enough thermal radiation in the vicinity to support the system from different sources. The main objectives of this work are to identify the advantages and disadvantages of such a system, its feasibility, and its efficiency for working in the real world through theoretical predictions, simulation, and experimentation.

Résumé :
Cement replacement materials can not only benefit the workability of the concrete but can also improve its compressive strength. Reducing the cement content of concrete can also lower CO2 emissions to mitigate the impact of the construction industry on the environment and improve energy consumption. This paper aims to predict the compressive strength (CS) and embodied carbon (EC) of cement replacement concrete using machine learning (ML) algorithms, i.e., deep neural network (DNN), support vector regression (SVR), gradient boosting regression (GBR), random forest (RF), k-nearest neighbors (kNN), and decision tree regression (DTR). Not only is producing an optimal ML model helpful for predicting accurate results, but it also saves time, energy, and costs, compared to conducting experiments. Firstly, 367 pieces of experimental datasets from the open literature were collected, in which cement was replaced with any of the cementitious materials. Secondly, the datasets were imported into the ML models, whose parameters were tuned by the grid search algorithm (GSA). Then, the prediction performance, the coefficient of determination (R2), the prediction accuracy, and the root mean square error (RMSE) were employed to indicate the prediction ability of the ML models. The results demonstrate that the GBR models perform the best prediction of the CS and EC. The R2 of the GBR models for predicting the CS and EC are 0.946 and 0.999, respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the GBR models have promising abilities for design assistance in cement replacement concrete. Finally, a sensitivity analysis (SA) was conducted in this paper to analyse the effects of the inputs on the CS and EC of the cement replacement concrete. Pulverised fuel ash (PFA), blast-furnace slag (GGBS), Expanded perlite (EP), and Silica fume (SF) were noticed to affect the CS and EC of cement replacement concrete significantly.
