Sánchez, María Jesús, Julia Gil et José Manuel Vaquero. « Design of a Compact Camera Obscura ». Physics Teacher 60, no 4 (avril 2022) : 282–83. http://dx.doi.org/10.1119/5.0029800.

Résumé :
The camera obscura is a well-known optical device in the form of a closed box with a hole in one of its walls through which light rays pass, forming an inverted image of the external objects on the opposite wall, as can be seen in Fig. 1(a). Despite the simplicity of its basic design, they have been widely used by scientists and artists. In particular, dark cameras have been used throughout history to measure Earth-Sun distance. To do this, ancient scientists used cameras of enormous dimensions to accurately measure the variations in the apparent diameter of the Sun that depend on the Earth-Sun distance. This is because the farther the light travels inside the camera, the larger the projected image will be [Fig. 1(b)]. In this work, the construction of a compact dark camera for educational purposes is presented so that, having reduced dimensions, it allows the images to be very large.

Résumé :
Optical communication is becoming more prevalent in orbit due to the need for increased data throughput. Nanosatellites, which are satellites that typically weigh less than 10 kg, are also becoming more common due to lower launch costs that enable the rapid testing of technology in a space environment. Nanosatellites are cheaper to launch than their larger counterparts and may be a viable option for communicating beyond Earth’s orbit, but have strict Size,Weight, and Power (SWaP) requirements. The Miniature Optical Communication Transceiver (MOCT) is a compact optical transceiver designed to provide modest data rates to SWaP constrained platforms, like nanosatellites. This paper will cover the optical amplifier characterization and simulated performance of the MOCT amplifier design that produces 1 kW peak power pulses and closes three optical links which include Low Earth Orbit (LEO) to Earth, LEO to LEO, and Moon to Earth. Additionally, a benchtop version of the amplifier design was constructed and was able to produce amplified pulses with 1.37 W peak power, including a 35.7% transmit optics loss, at a pump power of 500 mW. Finally, the modulator, seed laser, amplifier, receiver, and time-to-digital converter were all used together to measure the Bit Error Ratio (BER), which was 0.00257 for a received optical peak power of 176 nW.

Résumé :
Climate change is one of the most important environmental challenges, with academics, corporate practitioners, and governments all paying close attention. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of board qualities such as independence, nationality, and busyness on climate change disclosure. The study consists of 44 samples and 216 data observations. Secondary data were gathered from annual reports issued by sample companies between 2018 and 2022. Darus et al. (2020) generated 19 carbon emission disclosure items, which were subjected to content analysis. According to the conclusions of the study, a bigger proportion of independent commissioners and commissioners' busyness favorably affect a company's initiative to publish climate change-related information. This study adds to the limited scholarly literature on the association between board characteristics and non-financial disclosure performance. It has significant implications for managers and regulators to pay closer attention to the effectiveness of commissioners' oversight in supporting company environmental actions.

Résumé :
This study highlights that the British had long experiences in the Malay Peninsula before Francis Light’s acquisition and development of Penang, due to the central role of Malayan ports such as Kedah, Takuapa, Langkasuka, Terengganu, Palembang, Siak, and Malacca in global trade between China and India. Under the influence of Islam, Malacca (and, to a lesser extent, Kedah) became a Muslim Sultanate and reached its peak in this trading network, which attracted European traders (and subsequent colonialism), initially from Portugal and Spain, and later France, the Netherlands, and Britain. After the East India Company attained hegemony in India, it was strongly placed to extend its power from its presidencies in Calcutta, Bombay, and Madras. The EIC’s main focus was Bengal, where the Company founded the Fort William College as its headquarters in Calcutta. As trade with China became more important, the Malay Peninsula commensurately became a more attractive destination for investment due to its closer proximity to the Chinese sea lanes, and closer access to the Indo-Malay hinterlands and their products. In 1784, the EIC sent Kinloch to Aceh but he was unsuccessful in negotiating to establish a factory there. Nevertheless, they succeeded in establishing a foothold in Malaya with Francis Light’s embassy to Riau, Kedah, and Penang. Kedah also became prosperous under the Muslim Sultanates. Many Chinese and Indian merchants were settled there, benefitting from the trade in jungle products like camphor, betelnut, bird nests, situated near the Kedah River, was identified as a strategic location. Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin Muazzam Shah II of Kedah (r. 1710-1778) at that time was facing many internal as well as external conflicts. His son Sultan Abdullah Mukarram Shah (r. 1778-1797) also suffered the same fate. As a result of internal crisis and dynastic intrigues, he agreed to lease Penang to the EIC in exchange for military assistance in 1785. In July 1786, Francis Light sailed from Calcutta and reached Penang in August, and thus Penang became an EIC stronghold.

abstract: This article examines the use of promotional rhetoric in the factional texts that record the dissolution of the Virginia Company of London in order to demonstrate that the individual forms and tropes of colonial promotional literature carried political connotations and effects beyond the general political nature of promotional literature as a whole. Through close analysis of the differences of the forms and rhetorical figures used by different Virginia Company factions, this article recovers how particular promotional tropes draw connections between commercial and colonial practices and contemporary arguments over political authority in order to support different approaches to organization. Ultimately, the article argues that close formal and rhetorical attention to colonial promotional texts is necessary if we are to fully understand their ideological effects.

Résumé :
The cage system is one of the supporting factors in broiler chicken farming. In general, closed house cages are the type of cages that are often used by breeders for maintenance because they are considered more efficient for production. Livestock technology in Indonesia continues to develop along with the times. In addition, financial calculations are needed in a business to find out the profit of the business being run. Ayam Dekem Tengah Sawah Farm is a company in the field of raising broiler chickens which was founded in 2016 with a population of 29,000 chickens. The company has 2 (two) closed house cages with different systems, namely semi-automatic and automatic. Using the two cage systems, the owner of the cage does not clearly know the financial benefits that have been implemented. The research was conducted at Ayam Dekem Tengah Sawah Farm, Sumberagung Village, Peterongan District, Jombang Regency. This study aims to determine the differences in closed house cage systems (semi-automatic and automatic) owned by Ayam Dekem Tengah Sawah Farm through financial analysis. The method used is descriptive quantitative. The study was conducted for one period of rearing broiler chickens without special treatment for livestock. The results of this study indicate that the financial analysis of the results of raising broiler chickens using an automatic closed house cage system is superior to the results of raising broiler chickens using a semi-automatic closed house cage system.

Résumé :
Abstract. It has been just for more than thirty years that the English-language version of the detachable structural-morphological globe of the Earth with 40 cm diameter produced by the Cartographia Enterprise won the prize of the best demonstration aid (Anson and Gutsell 1989) at the Budapest conference of the International Cartographic Association in August 1989. This success was the result of the cooperation between two education institutions (Kossuth Lajos University and Eötvös Loránd University /ELTE/) and two Hungarian firms (Cartographia Enterprise and School Equipment Producing and Marketing Company). This unique product has been the only thematic earth globe designed and published in Hungary and which was duplicated in a relatively large number. It is a rarity today. This is one of the reasons why this globe has been placed in the Virtual Globes Museum (VGM) (http://terkeptar.elte.hu/vgm). This paper gives an overview of the history of these thematic globes: the Hungarian versions made in 1986 (VGM ID 8, 9, 10) and the English versions published in 1988 (VGM ID 66, 67, 68). It introduces the immediate scientific antecedents of their birth and – being a demonstration aid – the process of publishing. The paper also presents the work with the Russian version of the globe carried out at the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformatics, ELTE (VGM ID 154, 155, 156). This will lead to the expansion of the number of globes in the VGM. The close relationship between the new product and the former two editions is also pointed out.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Small low-mass stars are favourable targets for the detection of rocky habitable planets. In particular, planetary systems in the solar neighbourhood are interesting and suitable for precise characterization. The RedDots campaigns seek to discover rocky planets orbiting nearby low-mass stars. The 2018 campaign targeted GJ 1061, which is the 20th nearest star to the Sun. For three consecutive months we obtained nightly, high-precision radial velocity measurements with the HARPS spectrograph. We analysed these data together with archival HARPS data. We report the detection of three planet candidates with periods of 3.204 ± 0.001, 6.689 ± 0.005, and 13.03 ± 0.03 d, which are close to 1:2:4 period commensurability. After several considerations related to the properties of the noise and sampling, we conclude that a fourth signal is most likely explained by stellar rotation, although it may be due to a planet. The proposed three-planet system (and the potential four-planet solution) is long-term dynamically stable. Planet–planet gravitational interactions are below our current detection threshold. The minimum masses of the three planets range from 1.4 ± 0.2 to 1.8 ± 0.3 M⊕. Planet d, with msin i = 1.64 ± 0.24 M⊕, receives a similar amount of energy as Earth receives from the Sun. Consequently it lies within the liquid-water habitable zone of the star and has a similar equilibrium temperature to Earth. GJ 1061 has very similar properties to Proxima Centauri but activity indices point to lower levels of stellar activity.

Résumé :
This paper provides a short overview of the systems supporting the TDL industries (Transportation, Distribution, & Logistics) available on the market. The software was considered in terms of its suitability for companies specializing in the transport of oversized long cargo. The programs mentioned in the work do not constitute a closed directory. When choosing the systems, their popularity and availability were taken into account. Programs supporting TDL industries can be grouped into three basic categories, such as: freight exchanges, fleet management systems, and specialized software. An employee of an exemplary logistics company was asked about the usefulness of these systems in a company that transports oversized long cargo. The example of an interview conducted in an example logistics company was used to present which IT applications are currently used. The interview with the respondent revealed significant shortcomings in the specialist software market. The collected information indicates the need to build an integrated logistic IT system for the industry dealing with comprehensive delivery from the producer to the place of assembly of long and often heavy, uniform long structures.

In article formation and development of the land relations during the period from 2000 to 2016 on the example of the Voronezh region is considered. Need of a land reform which purpose in agriculture was a transformation of the land relations providing efficiency of use of land resources is shown. In article it is shown that objectives are partially solved. By 2016 joint stock companies, the joint-stock company, closed joint stock company, Ltd company, KFH, etc. were created, modern legal forms therefore the conclusion is drawn that limited liability companies at the moment prevail Are analysed, they make 73,8%. Results of their work in recent years are shown. The number of the unprofitable enterprises in 2016 in comparison with 2005 has decreased in percentage terms by 5,5 times and is only 6%, and profitable – 94%. The profit size for this period has increased more than by 10 times. Their characteristics and shortcomings are considered. It is noted that increase in efficiency of the land relations was promoted in no small measure by the following conditions: use of new technologies, introduction new highly productive, grades, rational use of fertilizers, acquisition of the new equipment, observance of crop rotations, improvement of personnel policy, etc. During land reforms due attention hasn't been paid to legal support of the mechanism of optimization of use of the earth that seriously slows down development of new land legal relations. Besides, the material and technical resources are still insufficiently created, selection and breeding work isn't completely restored, there are shortcomings and of formation of the financial and credit relations. For more effective use of land resources a number of actions for improvement of the organizational and economic mechanism are offered.

The main aim of this study is to highlight how the manager transfers her power to a company employee, whether close to the management board or not, to carry out a certain number of tasks on her behalf. An analysis of the literature revealed that, on the one hand, the delegation of power is a form of participative management that has a more or less harmful influence on the company and certain stakeholders. On the other hand, it has been shown that the delegation of power engenders an agency relationship that is a source of conflicts of interest between the delegator and the delegatee, due to non-compliance with contractual clauses or the opportunism of the delegatee, who may use any means at his disposal to definitively oust the delegator and remain in his new position for a long time. This practice does exist within companies in Cameroon, although it is not clearly defined by OHADA law.

Résumé :
Abstract Debates about authorship in cinema have held a privileged position in film studies since the 1950s, when the young generation of critics of the film journal Cahiers du Cinema formulated the politique des auteurs. This critical strategy proposed that the director of a film was the major creative source of the finished work. Since this assumption contradicts the industrial and collaborative character of the film medium, the politique has been questioned, attacked and reformulated ever since its beginnings. The auteur theory was appropriated and deconstructed under the influence of structuralist and poststructuralist theories that questioned the very concepts of individual creativity and self-expression. Nevertheless, questions about authorship in cinema did not vanish but were developed in many ways. If film is regarded not only as an art form but as a commodity, the director’s name cannot only be regarded as a sign of a discernible style (a ›world view‹), but as a brand name. ›Scorsese‹, ›Tarantino‹, ›Lynch‹, ›Nolan‹ – these names imply certain images, dramatic approaches, and themes. They also serve as a label for marketing a product. Directors and producers like Steven Spielberg or Ridley Scott lend their names to a certain kind of media production (film or television series) that raises expectations associated with their work. They do not necessarily work as a director. As producers – or even only as the owners of a production company – they may function as a kind of team leader, leaving the creative work to hired teams. In television, the showrunner is the major creative and managing force in the production of a series that is scripted, shot, and directed by several production crews simultaneously. Film and media studies have sought to discern the structures of collective working from historical and contemporary perspectives. Bordwell and others have described the (Hollywood) system and its mode of production, that defined the auteurs’ work. When looking closer at ›the system‹, it becomes obvious that there are different kinds of authorship in existence. Recent production studies on the working conditions in todays’ television have sought to analyse the structures of working together and ask questions about individual agency. The growing awareness of collective authorship promotes new ways of close film analysis. The German television series Babylon Berlin here serves as an example of a major contemporary media production with multiple creative influences and explicit collective authorship. A closer look at the successful series reveals the impact of this plurality on its storytelling and form.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Recent observational missions have uncovered a significant number of compact multi-exoplanet systems. The tight orbital spacing of these systems has led to much effort being applied to the understanding of their stability; however, a key limitation of the majority of these studies is the termination of simulations as soon as the orbits of two planets cross. In this work we explore the stability of compact, three-planet systems, and continue our simulations all the way to the first collision of planets to yield a better understanding of the lifetime of these systems. We perform over 25 000 integrations of a Sun-like star orbited by three Earth-like secondaries for up to a billion orbits to explore a wide parameter space of initial conditions in both the co-planar and inclined cases, with a focus on the initial orbital spacing. We calculate the probability of collision over time and determine the probability of collision between specific pairs of planets. We find systems that persist for over 108 orbits after an orbital crossing and show how the post-instability survival time of systems depends upon the initial orbital separation, mutual inclination, planetary radius, and the closest encounter experienced. Additionally, we examine the effects of very small changes in the initial positions of the planets upon the time to collision and show the effect that the choice of integrator can have upon simulation results. We generalize our results throughout to show both the behaviour of systems with an inner planet initially located at 1 and 0.25 AU.

Résumé :
Recent studies suggest that the South Brazil Bight (SBB) hosts strong westward propagating mesoscale eddies. We use 28 years of satellite altimetry data and a new Eddy Atlas to estimate how much of the eddy kinetic energy (EKE) observed in the SBB is accounted for by local eddies, generated in the Brazil Current (BC) region, versus remote eddies generated eastward of the BC region. First, we estimate a BC frontal density to obtain a robust definition of BC region. The BC front is well-defined throughout the SBB, occupying the region between the 200-m and 1000-m isobath, except in eddy hotspots downstream of sharp inflections of the continental slope, where the EKE far exceeds the mean kinetic energy (MKE). Compact, closed-contour mesoscale eddies account for 30–50% of the total EKE observed in the SBB, with local eddies accounting for most of the compact EKE in the BC region, defined as the area within 200 km of the 28-year mean BC front. Remote compact eddies account for less than 10% of the EKE observed in the BC region; compact eddies generated at long distances from the SBB, including eddies generated in the Southeastern Atlantic, contribute an insignificant fraction of EKE in the BC region.

Résumé :
In Bali, there are many family companies in the hotel business that failed in the second generation to lead the company and also many of which were successful, and even became big after being managed by the second generation due to success in the succession process, for example the I Gede Wirata and Kadek Wiranatha families who own 6 Bounty Group hotels, Putu Gde John Sastrawan with 4 Ramayana hotels, the late Ida Bagus Tjendana Putra with 4 Santrian hotels, based on this phenomenon, it appears that generational transfer (succession) of leadership in family companies is an important factor in the company's sustainability. Leadership succession in family companies does not always end in failure and brings company decline, it is evident that there are still companies that can survive for generations. Therefore, researchers are interested in researching and argue that it is necessary for family companies to prepare and plan for leadership succession as well and as early as possible to avoid failure in the intended leadership transformation. Seven things related to family companies are related to succession, namely: (1) unprofessional family companies; (2) there is no separation between company finances and personal finances; (3) family companies are considered unable to implement sound systems and procedures; (4) family companies only provide opportunities for family relatives to occupy key positions; (5) performance is not important, but more important is the ability to build a close relationship with the owner; (6) family companies will end up in the hands of the second generation, and (7) family companies do not view HR as an important company asset.

Résumé :
Markets are the place where buyers and sellers meet. The characteristics of such a place are almost universal, measurable, money is the medium, and the rules are mainly simple and flexible. Customers, partners and suppliers, competitors, and employees are the elements of the market environment. On the other hand, the non-market elements are everything that affects the market indirectly. Non-market strategy recognises that businesses are social and political beings, not just economic agents. A non-market strategy allows a company to shape the environment in which it operates, creating opportunities. Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility (ICSR) derives itself from core principles in the holy Qur’an. The three major foundational principles for ICSR are the vicegerency of mankind on earth, divine accountability and the duty on mankind to enjoin good and forbid evil. ICSR concept appears to be in close conformity with the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, but in many respects go further than the minimum standards adopted by this framework. MNCs should not underestimate the Middle Eastern region historical events of the Arab League boycott, the Danish cartoons and the ‘Arab Spring’ revolution. Admitting these, the ICSR concept will offers great opportunities for MNCs to invest and operate in the Middle East.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Approximately half of the planets discovered by NASA’s Kepler mission are in systems where just a single planet transits its host star, and the remaining planets are observed to be in multiplanet systems. Recent analyses have reported a dichotomy in the eccentricity distribution displayed by systems where a single planet transits compared with that displayed by the multiplanet systems. Using N-body simulations, we examine the hypothesis that this dichotomy has arisen because inner systems of super-Earths are frequently accompanied by outer systems of giant planets that can become dynamically unstable and perturb the inner systems. Our initial conditions are constructed using a subset of the known Kepler five-planet systems as templates for the inner systems, and systems of outer giant planets with masses between those of Neptune and Saturn that are centred on orbital radii 2 ≤ ap ≤ 10 au. The parameters of the outer systems are chosen so that they are always below an assumed radial velocity detection threshold of 3 m s−1. The results show an inverse relation between the mean eccentricities and the multiplicities of the systems. Performing synthetic transit observation of the final systems reveals dichotomies in both the eccentricity and multiplicity distributions that are close to being in agreement with the Kepler data. Hence, understanding the observed orbital and physical properties of the compact systems of super-Earths discovered by Kepler may require holistic modelling that couples the dynamics of both inner and outer systems of planets during and after the epoch of formation.

The Dutch energy company Eneco received the concession to construct a 116 MW windfarm on the Maasvlakte-2, a recent large seaward port extension of the Port of Rotterdam. The land reclamation is protected partly by a hard sea defence and partly by a soft sea defence, consisting of a sandy beach and adjacent dunes. Twelve wind turbines with a monopile foundation will be constructed on the beach, close to or in the waterline. The beach is erosive and is maintained by regular beach and foreshore nourishments. Designing and constructing wind turbines in this dynamic environment forms an unprecedented challenge.

Résumé :
Abstract GJ 367 is a bright (V ≈ 10.2) M1 V star that has been recently found to host a transiting ultra-short period sub-Earth on a 7.7 hr orbit. With the aim of improving the planetary mass and radius and unveiling the inner architecture of the system, we performed an intensive radial velocity follow-up campaign with the HARPS spectrograph—collecting 371 high-precision measurements over a baseline of nearly 3 yr—and combined our Doppler measurements with new TESS observations from sectors 35 and 36. We found that GJ 367 b has a mass of M b = 0.633 ± 0.050 M ⊕ and a radius of R b = 0.699 ± 0.024 R ⊕, corresponding to precisions of 8% and 3.4%, respectively. This implies a planetary bulk density of ρ b = 10.2 ± 1.3 g cm−3, i.e., 85% higher than Earth’s density. We revealed the presence of two additional non-transiting low-mass companions with orbital periods of ∼11.5 and 34 days and minimum masses of M c sin i c = 4.13 ± 0.36 M ⊕ and M d sin i d = 6.03 ± 0.49 M ⊕, respectively, which lie close to the 3:1 mean motion commensurability. GJ 367 b joins the small class of high-density planets, namely the class of super-Mercuries, being the densest ultra-short period small planet known to date. Thanks to our precise mass and radius estimates, we explored the potential internal composition and structure of GJ 367 b, and found that it is expected to have an iron core with a mass fraction of 0.91 − 0.23 + 0.07 . How this iron core is formed and how such a high density is reached is still not clear, and we discuss the possible pathways of formation of such a small ultra-dense planet.

Résumé :
This study is an event window study specific to Turkey's agriculture, forestry and fishing sector. The changes that a company in the relevant sector has gone through in 2020 and 2021 are under the microscope. In the study, a firm 'story' is presented, ranging from the Borsa İstanbul emerging companies market to the close monitoring market(the watch list), and then to the actions that resulted in 'failure'. As of 2022, there are only two companies listed in the sector. The company, which was excluded from the sector, was both subject to the sanctions of the Capital Markets Board and engaged in market-distorting actions. More strict control is required in the approval and activity processes of the company that has changed the title and the companies that will want to enter the sector. As a prerequisite for the protection of small investors, transparency should be treated more strictly. The common desired situation in capital markets is to ensure transparency. When disruptions occur in public disclosure, the operation may be impaired. When such faulty situations arise, the probability of financial market crimes such as information fraud will increase, and the attractiveness of the financial market to investors will decrease. These possible realizations become clear as problematic points, for economies that want to grow through financial markets.

Résumé :
Aghbolagh copper deposit is located in the southwest of West Azarbaijan Province, 10 km north of Oshnavieh city. Most of the existing rock outcrops in the area include Cambrian deposits (carbonated and clastic deposits). These deposits are metamorphosed by intrusive-granite masses (skarn-genesis). The infiltration of the mineralization solution at distances beyond contact and inside the sandstone sequences has resulted in the formation of copper ore veins. For microscopic and geochemical studies, 21 thin sections, and 22 doubly-polished cross-sections, 22 XRD specimens, 22 ICP-MS specimens, and three samples for analysis of 10 oxides were analyzed by Zarazma Corporation. In the study of the fluids involved, measurements were made using a Linkham THMSG600 heater and freezer plate, mounted on a polarized microscope with a separate stage and Olympus model. Studies on quartz minerals (3 samples) and garnet minerals (2 samples) were performed on five polished double sections by micro-thermometry measurements on 30 inclusion in quartz mineral and 15 inclusion in garnet mineral at Rizkavan Land Company. The results show that the La/Y ratio, which is a proper indicator for the pH conditions of the formation environment of ore deposit, in Aghbolagh deposit is a range from 0.09 to 2.26. The granite mass has the highest amount, and the skarn zone represents two types of conditions. Type 1: Section where the La/Y> 1 ratio observed in samples close to the skarn mass and ore. Type 2: Part where the ratio La/Y <1 is close to marble lithology. In the case of a vein deposit, the samples have mineralization under alkaline conditions, and other samples show acidic conditions. The examination of fluid inclusions determined two main groups of fluids in this mineralization system. Group 1: Supersaturated fluids of salt, which is the origin of halite multiphase inclusions in the garnet ore during the progressive skarn alteration process. Group 2: Salt-saturated fluids, which are the source of fluid-rich two-phase intermediates in the garnet and quartz minerals, and have been effective in regressive alteration in the skarn system.

Résumé :
The process of democratization of property relations has affected, first of all, the European area, and then the other parts of the world. Having been established with a clear economic and social content, without the ideological burden, the employees shareholding and participation have the conditions to expand, strengthen their power and become one of the important factors in the structure of the modern society. In our area, the process of the transformation of social ownership began with the employees shareholding. Company employees were given the right to buy internal shares under privileged conditions. That was the main form of transformation. There was trust in the company to initiate, organize and manage the process of transformation in its own interest. The funds obtained through the issuance of shares, selling a part of the company or the whole company, according to the express provisions of the law, belong to the company or its complex form. Later, already during 90s, ideological properties were unjustifiably attributed to the employees shareholding and participation, which led to their complete exclusion from the economic and legal system. By subsequent regulations, privatization was almost exclusively reduced to selling, thus excluding all other possible different forms of privatization. This approach lost the sight of the basic economic objectives of privatization: there was no acquiring of new capital or new investment cycle; there were neither new business entities capable of receiving and fertilizing the capital emerged, nor the privatization represented an incentive for dynamic development of economy and employment. Economic enterprises were extinguished, and unemployment increased. And now, in a much less favorable economic and social climate, it is reasonable to raise the issue of whether there are still conditions to engage the inner forces that would take upon themselves the responsibility for getting out of the crisis, by introducing the employees shareholding and privatization. A prerequisite for this is certainly the creation of a legal framework for the establishment and development of the employees shareholding and participation. This would simultaneously bring us closer to the legal system of the European Union and its member states, in which the employees shareholding and participation are widely established and legally regulated institutions.

Résumé :
Power system especially the distribution system which is the closest to the consumer is very fundamental and important to a nation’s economy development and that was the reason this study titled “Evaluation of reliability of power system distribution components, a case study of Sagamu Substation, Ogun State” was carried out in response to the yawning of the consumer for reliable and stable power supply. It is indispensable to find means of shaping which component failure contributes most to the unavailability, outage or interruption of the distribution system, and how this unavailability essentially affects the customers. A year power outages data that caused as a result of failure on each of these components such as Switch gears, Supply lines (11Kv),Busbar, circuit breakers, Fuses, Switches, Outgoings feeders, Over current relays, Earth fault relays, Surge arresters, transformers e.t.c. were collected from Ibadan Electricity Distribution company (IBDEC), Sagamu Substation Zone, Ogun State and were typified in Table 1-11.The failure rate (f/yr) (λ) of transformer, switch gear, supply line (incoming),bus bars, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, outgoing feeder, over current relay, earth fault relay and surge arrester were evaluated as follows 0.0059, 0.0044, 0.0011, 0.6667, 0.0007, 0.0082, 0.0000, 0.0039, 0.0003, 0.0001 and 0.0000 respectively and others such as average outages time (hours) ,outages time hours and other basic reliability indices were calculated and illustrated in Table 12. Some of these failures were also represented in bar chart. This method relates reliability theory with the experience gained from statistics and practical knowledge of components failures and maintenance. The findings from this work revealed that fuses had the highest failure followed by transformers and the least was surge arresters and it was also discovered that the outages time was reduced during the December period. This approach can be applied to rural and urban distribution systems. This submission made reliability theory a powerful tool to assist distribution Engineers in solving difficult and complicated problems.

Résumé :
According to the underlying premise of this study, sustainability is above all a consequence of adequate human scales of value. The enormous responsibility of educators in the quest for a sustainable quality of life is stressed and illustrated. The scales of value and the attitudes of graduates naturally carry over to their professional activity and thus directly affect the process industry. The main desired value is total commitment to quality of work and environment. Examples of stereotypical patterns of thought to be overcome are: engineering competence is measured by technical aptitudes only; product life cycles and macroscopic material balances may conveniently be closed by a landfill; there is plenty of space on Earth for more landfills; environmental concern is an internal company problem; a passing grade on one written exam satisfies personal and institutional expectations. The time and sustained effort to reach a targeted change of attitude are realistically determined. A new thinking model is presented that has been tested over several years. Its key components are: objective, transparent and progressive evaluation schemes containing fines for unprofessional behaviour; demands on quality that are not negotiable; specific debates and assignments on product life cycles and waste logistics; extrapolation of material balances to a global scale. Graduates have confessed to high levels of professional satisfaction as a result of their newly defined thought patterns. The experience shows that the international engineering teaching community can and must contribute significantly to winning the challenge of sustainability.

Résumé :
Compact actively Q-switched diode-pumped lasers based on Yb3+-materials are of practical importance for wide range of scientific, industrial and biomedical applications. The aim of this work was to study the Yb3+:LuAlO3 actively Q-switched laser. One of the most promising crystalline hosts for rare-earth ions are Perovskite-like aluminate crystals. Yttrium aluminate crystal YAlO3 (YAP) is a well-known host with good thermal and mechanical properties (thermal conductivity for undoped crystal is about 11 W/m·K and about 8 W/m·K for Yb(5 at.%):YAP) similar to those of YAG. The reduction in the thermal conductivity of doped laser crystal in comparison with host materials is small in the case of ions with close atomic mass and ionic radii such as for Yb3+ and Lu3+. This feature makes LuAlO3 (LuAP) more promising host crystal for doping by Yb3+ ions in contrast to YAP especially for high output power laser systems. In our work, for the first time to the best of our knowledge actively Q-switching laser operation of Yb3+:LuAP single crystal was demonstrated. The maximum average output power of 4.9 W at 50 kHz pulse repetition frequency (PRF) with opt.-to-opt. efficiency of 21 % was obtained with 30 % OC transmittance. Output power as high as 3.3 W with 333 µJ-laser pulses with duration of about 11.5 ns was demonstrated at 10 kHz PRF the corresponding pulse peak power was 29 kW. 97 µJ second harmonic pulses obtained with 29 % conversion efficiency at 10 kHz PRF.Performed investigations show high potential of Yb3+:LuAP crystals as active elements of compact diode pumped actively Q-switched lasers due to high stimulated emission cross-section (≈ 3.74·10-20 cm2) at 999.6 nm wavelength and significant reduction of heat load on the active element when pumping around 980 nm and generation around 999 nm.

Résumé :
The article is devoted to the analysis of modern directions of the process of transition of the textile industry from a linear to a more environmentally friendly closed model of economic development, in particular on the example of the EU countries. The main institutions and mechanisms that support environmental innovations are considered. The European Resource Efficiency Center provides assistance to small and medium-sized businesses in the transition to a global economic model of production through more efficient use of natural resources, reducing harmful emissions into the environment and reducing transport costs. To fundamentally change the trajectory of the development of the textile industry, it is necessary to rethink many aspects of the current model and the entire life cycle of the production and operation of textiles. In the conditions of "fast fashion" with the help of aggressive advertising of manufacturers, the demand for cheap clothes is artificially heated up, and this increases the number of landfills of discarded textiles. The circular economic model is based primarily on the reuse of raw materials, finished products and renewable resources. Experts believe that the circular economy is based on three main principles: maximum conservation of raw materials and finished products, waste-free production, environmentally friendly and restoration of natural systems. The basis of such a model is digital technologies, which allow to speed up and ensure the flexibility of processes at all stages of the production cycle. It is believed that in 10 years, 90 % of buyers, when choosing and buying a product, will pay attention primarily to the reputation of the company (brand) [1]. In the article, from the point of view of a systematic approach, eco-innovations financed in the EU countries are considered at the main stages of the life cycle of any textile product, starting from the stage of preparation of initial textile raw materials, production and finishing of fabrics, cutting and sewing products, and ending with the stage of operation of ready-made clothes. The analysis of modern innovations is carried out, which makes it possible to increase the environmental friendliness of each stage of the life cycle of a textile product in terms of efficiency. At the same time, such a criterion as the size of the carbon footprint was taken as a basis. The effect of extending the life cycle of one product on the amount of harmful emissions is considered. The main directions of digitalization of the main stages of the production of textile products are given. Proposals have also been developed for the use of textile waste at the stage of cutting products

Résumé :
Abstract. Turkana, in northwest Kenya, is the country's poorest and least developed county. Pastoralism in Turkana is well adapted to the harsh climatic conditions, but an increase in drought frequency associated with global climate change and intensifying violent conflicts between pastoral groups poses significant challenges for local communities. The conflicts are especially violent in the border region between the Turkana and the Pokot communities. In this very region significant oil reserves have recently been found. The first aim of this paper is to analyse how the oil exploration affects the communities' vulnerability to climate change. Secondly, the paper explores the risk of the oil explorations creating new conflicts or aggravating existing ones. The primary method of the study is qualitative field research supplemented with a geo-spatial analysis of conflict data. The field research was conducted in October 2013 and April 2014 in three villages with different levels of engagement with the oil exploration. At the time of the research, oil exploration was expected close to Lokwamosing, while it had recently started in the vicinity of Lopii and had been ongoing for a longer time close to Nakukulas. The findings suggest that the oil exploration increases the community's vulnerability to climate change. Further, unmet community expectations for water, employment and development pose a significant risk for violent conflict between local communities and the operating oil company. Intercommunal conflict over water and land could increase as well.

Résumé :
This paper proposes a lossless coder for real-time processing and compression of hyperspectral images. After applying either a predictor or a differential encoder to reduce the bit rate of an image by exploiting the close similarity in pixels between neighboring bands, it uses a compact data structure called k 2 -raster to further reduce the bit rate. The advantage of using such a data structure is its compactness, with a size that is comparable to that produced by some classical compression algorithms and yet still providing direct access to its content for query without any need for full decompression. Experiments show that using k 2 -raster alone already achieves much lower rates (up to 55% reduction), and with preprocessing, the rates are further reduced up to 64%. Finally, we provide experimental results that show that the predictor is able to produce higher rates reduction than differential encoding.

AbstractDo universities provide industry with System Engineers (SEs) that industry expects and wants? Are company sponsored training programs for System Engineers a worthwhile investment? Unlike traditional engineering disciplines, there is no prescribed educational program for Systems Engineering that meets the majority of industry's needs. Consequently, there appears to be no way for an organization to hire graduates who will, with certainty, be qualified to perform the majority of systems engineering functions within that organization. How much of this is due to the lack of standardization within industry, and how much is due to the lack of a standardized academic curriculum? This paper presents results of an empirical study aimed at identifying answers to these and other questions that are extremely important to the development of a close, effective partnership between industry (the customer) and educational/training programs (the producers).

Résumé :
Writing in 1853, Gábor Egressy, one of the leading actor-directors of the Hungarian-speaking National Theatre in Pest-Buda (Budapest), observed that representatives of different nations were appearing in increasing number on and off the stages of the major cities of Eastern Europe: Today not only ideas fly on lightning wings, but humankind as well. Quick and easy as well as cheap travel has mobilized humankind and created worldwide and constant migration. Now, we do not have to leave our place to see the people of the faraway world of whom, so far, we have had merely vague ideas through rumors and fairy tales: rather these people visit us in our home. From every part of the world, fantastically colorful groups proceed from time to time before our eyes. Whatever is pleasant, great, and fine on Earth, all visit us. Groups of Italians, French, Negroes, and English are coming here and offering the divine products of their homelands.Egressy shared this observation with readers when the black, British-American actor Ira Aldridge visited the National Theatre in 1853. Aldridge and his English company received a warm welcome from Hungarian audiences and leading intellectuals. At the same time, however, he was under surveillance by the Habsburg secret police, and was later politely asked to leave the city. In my article, I investigate Aldridge's visit to Pest-Buda using the concepts of surrogation (Joseph Roach) and mediatization (Christopher B. Balme), and pay close attention to the way the actor's contemporaries interpreted his visit.

Résumé :
Abstract We report the serendipitous discovery of a bipolar nebula in a citizen science search for non-stellar emission line objects using online sky surveys. It is associated with an infrared (IR) source and is situated next to a dark cloud, seen in emission in the far-IR (FIR). Evidence for an extinction gradient across the object has been found, pointing to close-by dust. This supports the notion that the newly found source is a young stellar object (YSO). It shows an enhanced surface brightness in the r-band, which covers the main emission lines typical for Herbig–Haro objects (HHOs). For an estimated distance of 1.7 kpc, an optical to FIR luminosity of ≳18.5 L ⊙ was derived.

Résumé :
This study analyzed the effect of financial performance, institutional ownership, and firm size on firm value. This study used the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) analysis to examine which indicators best measure financial performance. This study employed panel data from Indonesia's 13 property and real estate sector companies. This study found that the return on assets ratio is the only indicator measuring financial performance. This study also found that financial performance positively affects firm value. On the other hand, institutional ownership affected the firm value negatively. In contrast, this study failed to prove any positive effect of firm size on firm value. This study indicated that investors tend to pay close attention to profitability as the primary consideration when investing in property and real estate companies' shares. Another implication of this research is that the significant institutional ownership in a company tends to make investors uninterested

Résumé :
The withdrawal of foreign companies from the Russian market due to a change in the political situation has been a new trend for the Russian economy. The study shows that the actual scale of closure of foreign legal entities is insignificant, and even smaller than in previous years: the maximum number of legal entities was closed during 2018-2019. With that, until 2021, there were no noticeable differences in behavior between Russian and foreign companies, no intentions to reduce or limit their activities. Given the time it takes to comply with regulatory requirements for company closures, the decisions announced in 2022 are likely to affect the exit statistics of foreign organizations in 2023-2024. In addition, a possible future change in the behavior of foreign owners, in the form of restrictions or suspension of activities without the formal closure of companies will require a separate study, based on the results of 2022-2023.

Résumé :
The primary objective of this study is to investigate the impact that the coronavirus known as Covid-19 has had on the e-commerce in Asia. Coronavirus, one of the most lethal viruses currently known, is responsible for the deaths of many people. This indicates that the rate of economic growth in the nation has slowed down. On a very large scale, it has nearly completely disrupted all other kinds of businesses, including the e-commerce company. Most outlets owned by major merchants had been closed indefinitely. Aside from that, the situation is difficult for medium and small-sized enterprises (SMEs) since there are less customers shopping at their stores. Additionally, e-commerce companies should not be excluded from consideration. Additionally, Asia has a significant negative impact on them. China is the primary source of more than half of the goods items sold by many online retailers. As a result, it is presumable that this lethal virus will have a significant influence on the internet commerce conducted across Asia, particularly about the sale of Chinese goods. A survey was carried out as part of this study, and primary research was carried out as well, to get a more fruitful conclusion. The findings showed that most goods originate in China, and most industries are under lockdown, which implies that no items are imported or exported. This was shown by the fact that most industries are closed.

Résumé :
Catherine Comyn’s The Financial Colonisation of Aotearoa (2022) examines the centrality of finance in the colonisation of Aotearoa, from the sale of Māori lands and the first colonial emigration scheme to the founding of settler nationhood and the enforcement of colonial grievances. Moving from the formation of the New Zealand Company in the 1830s to the Hokianga Dog Tax Uprising at the close of the nineteenth century, this book reveals the inextricability of finance and colonialism. In this forum, Arama Rata, Jane Kelsey, and Simon Barber offer their thoughts on Comyn’s book and use it as a prompt to think about the legacies and ongoing ruptures of financial colonisation. The forum concludes with Comyn’s response to their readings of the book.

Résumé :
Today's realities of comprehensive digital development of society require companies to reorient their activities digitally. Most of them have already partially or fully implemented elements of digitization in their practice, but for the comprehensive immersion of business in the world of numbers, the formation of an effective digital strategy is necessary, which makes this issue of research extremely relevant. The article examines the peculiarities of the formation and influence of the digital strategy on the company's activities. The main stages of implementation through research stages are outlined, a comprehensive assessment of competitors' activities is carried out, industry leaders are determined, company brands and main customer attraction channels are analyzed, offline representative offices and prices for the key range of products are considered; then an offer (trade offer to the target audience) is formed, the company integrates the results of end-to-end analytics of the segment leaders into the functionality of its digital platform; then through sales (the principle of distribution of potential customers according to the stages of the entire process from the first contact to the sale of a product or service) the attraction of buyers is carried out; at the fourth stage, budgeting is carried out, that is, key resources for further growth are determined; the final stage involves conducting analytics and drawing conclusions, deploying a digital strategy through the collection of general analytical data. The main advantages and disadvantages of the company's digital strategy are highlighted. The peculiarities of the application of the digital strategy and its results for the company are analyzed. Key performance indicators (KPI) for all digital promotion channels are determined. This step is necessary primarily to adjust financial costs, inefficient tools are automatically rejected. This evaluation system ensures growth through the achievement of the necessary numerical indicators. The criteria depend on situational factors, which can reduce the accuracy of the forecast. The predicted indicators are close to the real ones, as they take into account the risks that are possible in the process of digital promotion. Résumé :
Currently, business competition is getting more competitive. Companies must act to improve and maintain product quality. Product quality is the ability of a product to meet customer needs and consumers. Product quality can be a company's mainstay so that its products are able to compete in its market segments with similar products. Quality will encourage consumers to establish close relationships with the company for a long time which in turn creates consumer loyalty. This study aims to determine the effect of product quality, promotion and conformity on consumer loyalty at the "X" fast food restaurant in Gresik Regency. The sample used in this study were 100 young respondents using the method of accidental sampling. The types and sources of data used are primary data in the form of questionnaire answers from respondents. Tests were carried out using SPSS. The results of this study indicate that product quality, promotion and conformity have a positive and significant effect on consumer loyalty.

Résumé :
In the context of leveraged buyouts (LBOs), this paper empirically studies the relation between pre-buyout credit market conditions and the post-buyout behavior of target companies, employing a supervisory dataset to overcome limited data availability for post-buyout target financial information. We propose an LBO-specific measure of (changes of) credit market conditions---the short-term (6-month) change of credit spreads leading up to buyout close. Using this proposed measure, we show that loosening pre-LBO credit market conditions, which are related to higher buyout leverage consistent with the literature, are associated with poor post-LBO (operating) performance of the target company. These results support the narrative of agency costs of debt such as risk shifting and debt overhang but are inconsistent with theories of disciplinary effects of debt. We provide further evidence supportive of the theories of agency costs of debt and some results favorable to the risk shifting story.

Résumé :
One of the most important issues of regional development and planning is to determine the factors influencing the decision-making on the placement of new companies. The purpose of the study is to study the influence of socio-economic and tax factors on business decisions regarding the territorial location of a company in Russia. Panel data for the period 2017–2021 are considered. in all regions of Russia. We have determined a set of tax factors (revenues to the consolidated budgets of regions, the federal budget, the local budget) and socio-economic factors (the number of priority development areas in the region, the number of closed companies, the average salary in the region, the presence of a million-plus city in the region , the number of able-bodied population in the region, the year the company was opened and the region where the company operates). These factors may have the greatest influence when deciding on the location of a business; they will to a greater extent characterize the situation as a whole in the country or federal district. The tools of correlation-regression analysis were applied. The developed models make it possible to assess the significance of each of the factors at the country level and at the level of federal districts, as well as to identify which areas of regional policy needs to be worked on to create attractive conditions for attracting new companies. The study confirmed two hypotheses. First, it is confirmed that the tax factor is a significant factor when deciding on the territorial location of a business in Russia. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the tax factor in Russia as a whole is not of high importance, but in some federal districts it is a significant factor. Second, it is confirmed that tax and socio-economic factors have a different impact in different regions when deciding on the territorial location of a business in Russia. The results show that the most significant factors are the factors of socio-economic development of the region and the presence of large cities.

Résumé :
The use of the cloud to store personal/company data and to run programs is gaining wide acceptance as it is more efficient and cost-effective. However, cloud services may not always be available, which could lead to losses for customers and the cloud provider (the provider is typically obligated to compensate its customers). It can protect itself from such losses through insurance, which transfers the risk to the insurer. In the case of poor cloud availability, the amount that the insurer has to pay back to the cloud provider may become so high that it endangers the insurer’s financial solvency. We propose the use of cat bonds as reinsurance tools as well as the Nowak–Romaniuk pricing scheme. The outage frequency was described by the Poisson process and the loss severity was described by a Pareto random variable; we derived a closed formula for the price of a cat bond in a stochastic interest rate environment, using both one-factor and two-factor short-rate models. We demonstrated the applicability of our pricing formula in a real context.
