Résumé :
This paper considers dynamic time series binary choice models. It proves near epoch dependence and strong mixing for the dynamic binary choice model with correlated errors. Using this result, it shows in a time series setting the validity of the dynamic probit likelihood procedure when lags of the dependent binary variable are used as regressors, and it establishes the asymptotic validity of Horowitz’s smoothed maximum score estimation of dynamic binary choice models with lags of the dependent variable as regressors. For the semiparametric model, the latent error is explicitly allowed to be correlated. It turns out that no long-run variance estimator is needed for the validity of the smoothed maximum score procedure in the dynamic time series framework.

Résumé :
This paper proposes a simplified oscillator model, called binary-oscillator, and develops a class of neural network models having binary-oscillators as basic units. The binary-oscillator has a binary dynamic variable v = ±1 modeling the “membrane potential” of a neuron, and due to the presence of a “slow current” (as in a classical relaxation-oscillator) it can oscillate between two states. The purpose of the simplification is to enable abstract algorithmic study on the dynamics of oscillator networks. A binary-oscillator network is formally analogous to a system of stochastic binary spins (atomic magnets) in statistical mechanics.

Résumé :
We describe and discuss the properties of a binary neural network that can serve as a dynamic neural filter (DNF), which maps regions of input space into spatiotemporal sequences of neuronal activity. Both deterministic and stochastic dynamics are studied, allowing the investigation of the stability of spatiotemporal sequences under noisy conditions. We define a measure of the coding capacity of a DNF and develop an algorithm for constructing a DNF that can serve as a source of given codes. On the basis of this algorithm, we suggest using a minimal DNF capable of generating observed sequences as a measure of complexity of spatiotemporal data. This measure is applied to experimental observations in the locust olfactory system, whose reverberating local field potential provides a natural temporal scale allowing the use of a binary DNF. For random synaptic matrices, a DNF can generate very large cycles, thus becoming an efficient tool for producing spatiotemporal codes. The latter can be stabilized by applying to the parameters of the DNF a learning algorithm with suitable margins.

Résumé :
This experimental work deals with the influence of niobium additions to high purity nickel on dynamic recrystallization behavior during hot working. Various high-purity alloys were prepared (unalloyed Ni and Ni–0.01, 0.1, 1 and 10 wt % Nb) and deformed to high strains by hot torsion tests to characterize the rheological behavior within the range 800 – 1000°C at strain rates of 0.03, 0.1 and 0.3 s–1. Niobium additions strongly increased the flow stress. To quantify such behavior, the strain-hardening parameter h and dynamic-recovery parameter r in the Yoshie-Laasraoui-Jonas constitutive equation were determined from the initial part of the experimental stress-strain curves (i.e., at strains before the stress peak) in which dynamic recrystallization does not alter the mechanical behavior. A table showing the variation of h and r as a function of strain rate, temperature, and niobium content was compiled and used to fit a simple empirical model for predicting h and r from the deformation conditions and alloy composition. In addition, microstructures were determined by optical metallography and SEM/EBSD. Based on this work, it appears that niobium additions noticeably refine the steady-state grain size by considerably decreasing the kinetics of dynamic recrystallization in nickel.

The diffusion of binary gas mixtures through a porous asymmetric tubular membrane has been studied experimentally. A modified Wicke-Kallenbach diffusion cell consisting of two gas compartments separated by the membrane was used. Steady-state experiments with pure gases and binary mixtures were carried out in order to determine the transport parameters of the membrane with respect to the dusty gas model. To verify these parameters, the dynamic transport of binary mixtures was examined applying the dynamic diffusion cell technique proposed by Novak et al. The measured transients were in relative good agreement with the model predictions.

Résumé :
This paper studies the closed-loop system identification (ID) error when a dynamic integral controller is used. Pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) q-Markov covariance equivalent realization (Cover) is used to identify the closed-loop model, and the open-loop model is obtained based upon the identified closed-loop model. Accurate open-loop models were obtained using PRBS q-Markov Cover system ID directly. For closed-loop system ID, accurate open-loop identified models were obtained with a proportional controller, but when a dynamic controller was used, low-frequency system ID error was found. This study suggests that extra caution is required when a dynamic integral controller is used for closed-loop system identification. The closed-loop identification framework also has significant effects on closed-loop identification error. Both first- and second-order examples are provided in this paper.

Résumé :
The paper considers a combination of modern artificial neural networks (ANN) that solves the security relative task of intrusion prevention and vulnerabilities detection in cybernetic infrastructure with dynamic network topology. Self-organizing networks, WSN, m2m networks, IIoT, mesh networks are faced with the cyberthreats of specific character: dynamic routing failures, node isolation, DDoS attacks, traffic lack, etc. Most of them are caused by cybersecurity weaknesses: the software vulnerabilities and architectural features of dynamically reconfigured network. The existing methods of binary code analysis and intrusion detection can work with a small number of data sets, are designed for either code inspection or network checking, and are targeted for static networks with regular topology. The proposed neural model demonstrates an universal approach that deals with the cybersecurity weakness as a systems genuine property and attempts to approximate it using a hybrid deep ANN. The new ANN detects both the network security defects and binary code vulnerabilities at once with high accuracy (more than 0.97). It also shows good performance capacity processing big data of the undercontrolled network.

Résumé :
The binary dynamic circuit, which can be a design scheme for a number of technical systems is considered in the paper. The dynamic circuit is characterized by the kinetic energy of the translational motion of two masses, the potential energy of these masses’ elastic interaction and the dissipative function of energy dissipation during their motion. The free motion of a binary dynamic circuit is found according to a given initial phase state. A mathematical model of the binary dynamic circuit motion in the canonical form and the corresponding characteristic equation of the fourth degree are compiled. Analytical modeling of the binary dynamic circuit is carried out on the basis of the proposed particular solution of the complete algebraic equation of the fourth degree. A homogeneous dynamic circuit is considered and the reduced coefficients of elasticity and damping are introduced. The dependence of the reduced coefficients of elasticity and damping is established, which provides the required class of solutions to the characteristic equation. An ordered form of the analytical representation of a dynamic process is proposed in symmetric determinants, which is distinguished by the conservatism of notation with respect to the roots of the characteristic equation and phase coordinates.

A spontaneous temporary rise in the pressure gradient through countercurrent binary transport of inert gases in porous bidispersed alumina was observed in diffusion cell of the Wicke-Kallenbach type. Experimental pressure responses to gas step changes were detected and fitted to a set of partial differential equations. These were based on the transport models Mean Transport Pore Model (MTPM) and Dusty Gas Model (DGM). The dynamic set transport parameters 〈r〉, 〈r2〉 and ψ for both models were obtained using an optimization algorithm and discussed. It was found that the values of the transport radius 〈r〉 are in a good agreement with the mean radius obtained from the measurement of alumina texture.

Résumé :
Nowadays, the growth of traffic congestion and emissions has led to the emergence of an innovative and sustainable transportation service, called dynamic vanpooling. The main aim of this study is to identify factors affecting the travel behavior of passengers due to the introduction of dynamic vanpooling in the transportation system. A web-based mode choice survey was designed and implemented for this scope. The stated-preference experiments offered respondents binary hypothetical scenarios with an ordered choice between dynamic vanpool and the conventional modes of transport, private car and public transportation. In-vehicle travel time, total travel cost and walking and waiting time or searching time for parking varies across the choice scenarios. An ordered probit model, a multinomial logit model and two binary logit models were specified. The model estimation results indicate that respondents who are aged between 26 and 35 years old, commute with PT or are members of bike-sharing services were significantly more likely to choose dynamic vanpool or PT than private car. Moreover, respondents who are worried about climate change and are willing to spend more for environmentally friendly products are significantly more likely to use dynamic vanpool in comparison with private cars. Finally, to indicate the model estimation results for dynamic vanpool, the value of in-vehicle travel time is found to be 12.2€ per hour (13.4€ for Munich subsample).

Résumé :
In this paper, the coupling dynamic model of a flexible manipulator driven by servo joint is established using experimental identification method. The dynamic model of the servo joint is proposed, which consists of a direct current servo motor, a harmonic gear reducer and a servo controller. By fitting the experimental data for the forward and inverse rotation of the motor, the coulomb friction constant and viscosity friction coefficient are obtained. Then, two transform function models that represent the system coupling dynamics are proposed. The input and output variables for one model are the control voltage of the servo controller and the angular displacement of motor. And for the other model, the input and output are the control voltage of the servo controller and the strain output measured by the strain gauges. Using the Pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) as the input signal, both the driven model of the servo joint and the vibration model of the flexible manipulator are identified by experimental identification. Experimental results show that the two identified models are in good agreement with the dynamic response of the experimental setup, both for the PRBS and sinusoidal excitation signals. Accordingly, the coupling dynamic models of the proposed system are obtained.

The self-consistent mode-coupling theory (MCT) has been used to analyze the heterogeneous dynamical nature of a binary supercooled liquid. The non-Gaussian behavior is studied by analyzing the self part of the Van Hove correlation function, Gs(r, t). From the analysis of the single particle dynamics we identify a fraction (ϕM) of particles which are dynamically more active and find that ϕM increases as the temperature is decreased. This behavior is qualitatively similar to the computer simulation studies of the same system.

Résumé :
As the offshoring of knowledge work has accelerated, theoretical models to explain the phenomenon have not kept up. Most theoretical models assume a static transactional relationship from various factors to a binary offshoring decision. Such models do not take into account the mix of sourcing choices at the level of a firm, nor do they consider dynamic changes over time. To help fill these gaps, we use five case studies on offshore migration of software work by major US companies. Data were collected from senior executives. We use these data to develop a dynamic conceptual model that incorporates three factor groupings which collectively help explain offshore sourcing outcomes: (1) economic factors; (2) the nature of the development activity; and (3) managerial capabilities and practices. Importantly, the model includes five feedback loops among sourcing decisions, sourcing mix, and these three factors. Thus, the relationships in the model are not unidirectional, nor static; rather, they are Iterative and dynamic, involving feedback loops, learning, and cumulative effects over time. In this dynamic model, the sourcing ‘mix,’ a continuously changing offshore portfolio, is a key firm-level dependent variable, closer to the economic concept of a ‘stock’ measure that represents the cumulative effect of sourcing decisions over time. This variable may be measured in different ways, for instance as the amount of work done offshore, or the number of workers employed offshore.

Résumé :
<span>The traditional storage approaches are being challenged by huge data volumes. In multimedia content, every file does not necessarily get tagged as an exact duplicate; rather they are prone to editing and resulting in similar copies of the same file. This paper proposes the similarity-based deduplication approach to evict similar duplicates from the archive storage, which compares the samples of binary hashes to identify the duplicates. This eviction is done by initially dividing the query video into dynamic key frames based on the video length. Binary hash codes of these frames are then compared with existing key frames to identify the differences. The similarity score is determined based on these differences, which decides the eradication strategy of duplicate copy. Duplicate elimination goes through two levels, namely removal of exact duplicates and similar duplicates. The proposed approach has shortened the comparison window by comparing only the candidate hash codes based on the dynamic key frames and aims the accurate lossless duplicate removals. The presented work is executed and tested on the produced synthetic video dataset. Results show the reduction in redundant data and increase in the storage space. Binary hashes and similarity scores contributed to achieving good deduplication ratio and overall performance.</span>

Résumé :
Over the past few years, there has been a surge in the popularity of binary optimizers such as BOLT, Propeller, Janus and HALO. These tools use dynamic profiling information to make optimization decisions. Although effective, gathering runtime data presents developers with inconveniences such as unrepresentative inputs, the need to accommodate software modifications, and longer build times. In this paper, we revisit the static profiling technique proposed by Calder et al. in the late 90’s, and investigate its application to drive binary optimizations, in the context of the BOLT binary optimizer, as a replacement for dynamic profiling. A few core modifications to Calder et al.’s original proposal, consisting of new program features and a new regression model, are sufficient to enable some of the gains obtained through runtime profiling. An evaluation of BOLT powered by our static profiler on four large benchmarks (clang, GCC, MySQL and PostgreSQL) yields binaries that are 5.47 % faster than the executables produced by clang -O3.

This paper analyses the effect by using the model parameter calibration including bus-taking time, bus congestion and personal information e.g. age and gender on the bus commuters travel route choice behavior. Studies have shown that public transport information are closely related to travel routes and travel activities, and bus commuters will make adjustments on travel route after obtaining travel information. Résumé :
We propose a framework for estimation and inference when the model may be misspecified. We rely on a local asymptotic approach where the degree of misspecification is indexed by the sample size. We construct estimators whose mean squared error is minimax in a neighborhood of the reference model, based on one‐step adjustments. In addition, we provide confidence intervals that contain the true parameter under local misspecification. As a tool to interpret the degree of misspecification, we map it to the local power of a specification test of the reference model. Our approach allows for systematic sensitivity analysis when the parameter of interest may be partially or irregularly identified. As illustrations, we study three applications: an empirical analysis of the impact of conditional cash transfers in Mexico where misspecification stems from the presence of stigma effects of the program, a cross‐sectional binary choice model where the error distribution is misspecified, and a dynamic panel data binary choice model where the number of time periods is small and the distribution of individual effects is misspecified.

Résumé :
To decrease the vibration and improve the dynamic performance of traction-type passenger elevators, an accurate vertical dynamic model with nine degrees of freedom for a gearless 2: 1 traction-type passenger elevator system is presented. Then, an optimization model of dynamic parameters for this type of passenger elevator is proposed based on the dynamic model. The optimization model takes the amplitude of vibration acceleration response of the elevator cage as the objective function. Various exciting forces and various working conditions can be considered by using corresponding weight coefficients in the objective function. To get higher efficiency and stronger robustness of optimized value, a dynamic byte coding genetic algorithm in solving the optimization model by combining the advantages of binary coding method with dynamic parameter encoding method is proposed, and the optimal solution is verified by sensitivity analysis. A practical engineering optimization for a 2: 1 traction-type passenger elevator system shows that the optimization model and method of dynamic parameters proposed in this article are effective.

Résumé :
Dynamic fault tree is often used to analyze system reliability. The Markov model is a commonly used method, which can accurately reflect the relationship between the state transition process and the dynamic logic gate transfer in the dynamic fault tree. When the complexity or scale of system is increasing, the Markov model encountered a problem of state space explosion leading to increase troubles. To solve the above problems, a modular approach is needed. Based on the modular approach, a hybrid fault module was researched in this paper. Firstly, the stackable fault subtree containing complex static/dynamic logic gate is transformed into four common combinational logic gates through preprocessing of the dynamic gate in the module. Then, the complexity of the model was reduced by incorporating four common combinational logic gates and using the binary decision graph to solve variable ordering in the calculation of failure probability of static subtree. Moreover, the calculating process of complex mixed logic gate fault tree can be simplified. An example of the ammonium nitrate/fuel explosive production system for BCZH-15 explosive vehicle was used to verify the feasibility of the presented method.

Résumé :
Game-theoretic models were investigated not from the point of view of the maxima of the players' utility functions, as is usually done, but by solving algebraic equations that characterize the Nash equilibrium. This characterization is obtained for models of binary collective behavior, in which players choose one of two possible strategies. Based on the results for the general model, game-theoretic models of conformal threshold Binary Collective Behavior (BCB) are studied, provided the collective is divided into L groups. The conditions for the existence of Nash equilibria is proved. For each Nash equilibrium, its structure is defined. The results obtained are illustrated by two examples of conformal threshold BCB when the group coincides with the whole team and when the latter is divided into two groups. It is shown that the Nash equilibria in the first and second examples are analogues of the equilibria in the dynamic models of M. Granovetter and T. Schelling, respectively.

Résumé :
ABSTRACT Modal analysis of tires has been a fundamental part of tire research aimed at capturing the dynamic behavior of a tire. An accurate expression of tire dynamics leads to an improved tire model and a more accurate prediction of tire behavior in real-life operations. Therefore, the main goal of this work is to improve the tire-testing techniques and data range to obtain the best experimental data possible using the current technology. With this goal in mind, we propose novel testing techniques such as piezoelectric excitation, high-frequency bandwidth data, and noncontact vibration measurement. High-frequency data enable us to capture the coupling between the wheel and tire as well as the coupling between airborne and structure-borne noise. Piezoelectric excitation eliminates the dynamic coupling of shakers and the inconsistency of force magnitude and direction of impact hammers as well as added mass effect. Noncontact vibration measurements using three-dimensional (3D) scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (SLDV) are superior to accelerometers because of no mass loading, a high number of measurement points in three dimensions, and high sensitivity. In this work, a modal analysis is carried out for a loaded tire in a static condition. Because of the highly damped nature of tires, multiple input excitation with binary random noise signal is used to increase the signal strength. Mode shapes of the tire are obtained and compared using both accelerometers and SLDV measurements.

Résumé :
This paper shows the validation process of a dynamic model proposed to represent the one-step thermal degradation reaction of individual components in polymer mixtures. It is complicated to model the process of thermal degradation of polymer mixtures inside pyrolysis reactors. Inside the MPW reactor, the distribution of polymeric components in the mixture is shuffled. It occurs high-temperature gradients, and it is difficult to achieve a uniform heat transfer. All these factors make it complicated to predict at all times in the process and each point of the material inside reactor the degradation reactions and the specific presence of hydrocarbon of interest. It is made a comparison between real data provided by TGA of binary mixes of plastic and the result of simulated thermal degradation obtained using a differential equation of the model for thermal degradation of the same plastics. The polymer used in this study were Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) and Low-Density Polyethylene (HDPE). The results of the simulation using the dynamic model proposed were compared to the thermograms of the five samples submitted to TGA tests. The simulation results showed a reasonable degree of approximation with a mean square error of less than 5%. Those results well approximate the loss of mass of the real samples submitted to TGA tests in all the temperature range of the process. Consequently, it is not necessary to segment the process into sub-ranges to look for parameters in each one of them.

Résumé :
Preventive maintenance is a planned and scheduled maintenance method that is carried out before a machine failure occurs. The maintenance schedule can be determined based on experience, historical data, or recommendations. Selecting the maintenance schedule greatly affects the production system. The Clin machine in cement manufacturing has an important role in the cement production process. During treatment, the client machine cannot produce clinker, so it is necessary to plan a production system to meet the demand. This paper aims to design an optimization model for determining the preventive maintenance schedule for cement manufacturing by considering the production process and inventory control. Mathematical models with binary options are used to model that system. The model supports showing the optimal preventive maintenance schedule for the ciln machines with a binary decision each period. This mathematical model describes the interaction of production planning, inventory control, and scheduling of total maintenance on a kiln machine. The goal of this system is to determine the optimal preventive maintenance schedule with minimum costs. In addition, the system's output is the optimal production and inventory decision rule for each period. Based on the analysis and simulation of the model with the deterministic and dynamic demand, the optimal preventive maintenance schedule is in the 9th and 21st periods. The kiln machines are maintained every July with minimal costs. The model scenario shows the interaction of the variables and the sensitivity of the production capacity and demand to the decision rule of the variable.

Résumé :
A phase field model for binary alloy solidification with boundary interface intersection is developed. In the phase field model, the heat and solute conservation equations are appropriately modified to account for the presence of heat and solute rejection inside the diffuse interface, and a relaxation boundary condition for the phase field variable is introduced to balance the interface energy and boundary surface energy in the multiphase contact region. The thin interface asymptotic analysis is applied on the phase field model to yield the free interface problem with dynamic contact point condition.

Résumé :
A systematic identification approach for the rotor/radial active magnetic bearing (rotor/RAMB) system is presented in this study. First, the system identification of the controller of commercial TMP is undertaken, and the corresponding linear dynamic models are constructed. To perfectly excite the nonlinearities of the rotor/RAMB system, a parallel amplitude-modulated pseudo-random binary sequence (PAPRBS) generator, which possesses the merits of no correlation among the perturbation signals, is employed. The dynamics of the rotor/RAMB system is identified with a Hammerstein–Wiener model. To reduce the difficulty of the identified two nonlinear blocks, the output nonlinear characteristics are estimated prior to the recursive process. Two conventional nonlinear model structures, i.e., NARX and NARMAX, are employed for comparison to verify the effectiveness of the identified Hammerstein–Wiener model. The averaged fit values of the Hammerstein–Wiener model, NARX model, and NARMAX model are 93.25%, 88.36%, and 76.91%, respectively.

Résumé :
Abstract Densities and transport properties (dynamic viscosity) of pure imidazolium ionic liquids 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium dicyanamide and their binary mixtures with water and ethanol were measured within the temperature range of 293.15—333.15 K. Obtained experimental data were used to calculate excess molar volume and viscosity deviation. For the chosen binary mixtures, variations of excess molar volume, partial molar volumes of mixture components and of the viscosity deviation with the binary mixture composition were correlated using the Redlich-Kister equation. In addition, variation of viscosity with the binary mixture composition and temperature was fitted using the Jouyban-Acree model.

Résumé :
The convertible bonds usually have multiple additional provisions that make their pricing problem more difficult than straight bonds and options. This paper uses the binary tree method to model the finance market. As the underlying stock prices and the interest rates are important to the convertible bonds, we describe their dynamic processes by different binary tree. Moreover, we consider the influence of the credit risks on the convertible bonds that is described by the default rate and the recovery rate; then the two-factor binary tree model involving the credit risk is established. On the basis of the theoretical analysis, we make numerical simulation and get the pricing results when the stock prices are CRR model and the interest rates follow the constant volatility and the time-varying volatility, respectively. This model can be extended to other financial derivative instruments.

Résumé :
There are three types of maintenance management policy Run-tofailure (R2F), Preventive Maintenance (PvM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM). In both R2F and PdM we have the data related to the maintenance cycle. In case of Preventive Maintenance (PvM) complete information about maintenance cycle is not available. Among these three maintenance policies, predictive Maintenance (PdM) is becoming a very important strategy as it can help us to minimize the repair time and the associated cost with it. In this paper we have proposed PdM, which allows the dynamic decision rules for the maintenance management. PdM is achieved by training the machine learning model with the datasets. It also helps in planning of maintenance schedules. We specially focused on two models that are Binary Classification and Recurrent Neural Network. In Binary Classification we classify whether our data belongs to the failure class or the non failure class. In Binary Classification the number of cycles is entered and classification model predicts whether it belongs to the failure/non failure class.

Résumé :
Binary choice games with externalities, as those described by Schelling (1973, 1978), have been recently modelled as discrete dynamical systems (Bischi and Merlone, 2009). In this paper we discuss the dynamic behavior in the case in which agents are impulsive; that is; they decide to switch their choices even when the difference between payoffs is extremely small. This particular case can be seen as a limiting case of the original model and can be formalized as a piecewise linear discontinuous map. We analyze the dynamic behavior of this map, characterized by the presence of stable periodic cycles of any period that appear and disappear through border-collision bifurcations. After a numerical exploration, we study the conditions for the creation and the destruction of periodic cycles, as well as the analytic expressions of the bifurcation curves.
