Résumé :
Abstract OBJECTIVES Aortic valve repair procedures for the treatment of isolated aortic valve insufficiency may be improved by stabilizing the functional aortic annulus using a double annuloplasty ring at the aortic annulus and sinotubular junction (STJ). The objective of this study was to compare the geometrical changes and aortic root stress distribution when using a single subvalvular ring and a double sub- and supravalvular ring in vivo. METHODS Both the single- and double-ring procedures were performed successively in nine 80-kg pigs. Measurements were performed intraoperatively using sonomicrometry crystals in the aortic root to evaluate geometrical changes and annular and STJ force transducers measuring the segmental radial stress distribution. RESULTS The total force in the STJ was significantly reduced after the double-ring procedure from 1.7 ± 0.6 to 0.04 ± 1.1 N (P = 0.001). The double-ring procedure significantly reduced the STJ area from 234.8 ± 37.6 to 147.5 ± 31.8 mm2 (P = 0.001) and expansibility from 17 ± 6% to 8 ± 3% (P = 0.001). With the single-ring procedure, the STJ shape was circular but became more oval with the double-ring procedure. The double-ring procedure did not affect stress distribution or geometry in the aortic annulus. CONCLUSIONS The double-ring procedure stabilized the whole aortic root by reducing radial stress distribution in the STJ more efficiently than the single-ring procedure. Both area and expansibility were reduced with the double-ring procedure. These results confirm the importance of addressing the entire functional aortic annulus for optimal aortic valve repair procedures.

Résumé :
Human visual system has a space-variant resolution nature. In the retinal receptive field, the resolution is not uniform but sampled finest in the central fovea and coarser in the peripheral. This variable resolution mapping function is born by the cerebral primary visual cortex V1. It has a clear visual field map of spatial information, and this spatial mapping structure is called Retinotopy. The forward mapping to visual cortex from retina is characterized with complex LPT (Log-PolarTransform) by Schwartz. The retinal receptive field image is reconstructed by inverse projection LPT-1 from V1. This reconstructed process is called F oveated I maging. Since the spatial information is concentrated in the center of the visual field, the Foveated Imaging is applied to image compression, pattern recognition, robot vision, and/or computer vision. The retinal receptive field image is suitable for material appearance expression with natural blurring due to peripheral vision.<br/> However, the complexity of the inverse transform LPT-1 was a bottleneck. This paper proposes a Double- Ring-structured novel Foveated Imaging method using positive and negative Gaussian blur masks without using the inverse transform LPT-1 of Schwartz theory and reports the evaluation of reproduction errors.

Résumé :
The energy sawtooth will be significant in the future circular Higgs factory with beam energy as high as 120 GeV. For the partial double ring scheme, unlike the double ring scheme, the effects of energy sawtooth cannot be corrected by tapering the magnet strength with beam energy along the beamline. In this paper, the energy sawtooth effects in the partial double ring scheme and its mitigation methods are presented. As an example, the study of the energy sawtooth effects of the CEPC advanced partial double ring scheme is presented.

Résumé :
In this paper, two types of miniaturized dual-mode bandpass filters (BPF), a single-ring (SR) resonator, and a double-ring (DR) resonator are developed. By applying the capacitive-coupling technique to a dual-mode ring filter, a technique is proposed to miniaturize the dual-mode double-ring filter. An adjustable dual-band bandpass filter is achieved by developing a ring resonator where the two modes are capacitively coupled. Control of the filter center frequency is determined by the diameter of the ring and by the rings annular width. Filter coupling amount can also be adjusted by disturbance (perturbation) of an open stub attached to the annular disc. Proposed filters explore both single- and double-ring architectures. A single-ring resonator acting as a dual bandpass filter to allow 3.8 GHz and 7.8 GHz single is developed. A double-ring resonator to allow 2.05 GHz and 3.9 GHz signals is also developed. The ring resonators are fabricated on RO-4003 substrate, with relative dielectric constant of 3.38, thickness of 0.8 mm, and dielectric loss tangent of 0.0025. Results indicate the filters can be applied in the communications field.

Résumé :
A future Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) has been proposed by China with the main goal of studying the Higgs boson. Its baseline design, chosen on the basis of its performance, is a double ring scheme; an alternative design is a partial double ring scheme which reduces the budget while maintaining an adequate performance. This paper will present the collider ring lattice design for the double ring scheme. The CEPC will also work as a W and a Z factory. For the W and Z modes, except in the RF region, compatible lattices were obtained by scaling down the magnet strength with energy.

Résumé :
Improving the precision of numerical calculation of double-decker bearing is the basis of exploring its potential application value. This paper takes double-decker bearing as the research object, a modified quasi-statics model of double-decker bearing was established by considering the influence of the centrifugal expansion of the inner and middle ring of double-decker bearing at high speed and solve it with soft of Matlab. The influence of centrifugal expansion on the contact angle of the double-decker bearing was analyzed. The results show that the centrifugal expansion caused by the inner ring and middle ring under high speed can not be ignored, and the centrifugal expansion has a greater influence on the contact angle of inner bearing than that of outer bearing. The influence of centrifugal expansion on the dynamic properties of different materials is different, and the change of contact angle caused by ceramic as the inner ring and middle ring is greater than that of steel. It provides the basis for more accurate numerical analysis and design of the double-decker bearing.

Résumé :
AbstractAn unusual double-thermostad warm-core ring of the Gulf Stream was discovered in the Slope Sea, south of Georges Bank, during the R/V Endeavor cruise 578 in May 2016. The ring’s stratification was peculiar as it included two thermostads at, respectively, 100–200 m (core T = 18.14°C, S = 36.52) and 250–500 m (core T = 16.70°C, S = 36.35). Extensive use of satellite data (SST imagery and SSH maps) allowed the life history of this ring to be reconstructed, with independent SST and SSH data mutually corroborating each other. The double-thermostad ring was formed by vertical alignment of two preexisting warm-core anticyclonic rings of the Gulf Stream. The first ring spawned by the Gulf Stream in February has cooled by ~2°C before merging in April with the second ring spawned by the Gulf Stream in March. During vertical alignment of these rings, the warmer ring overrode the colder ring, thereby forming the double-thermostad ring surveyed in May 2016. From ADCP sections through the ring, the upper and lower thermostads had different core relative vorticities of −0.65f and −0.77f, respectively, where f is the local Coriolis parameter. An in-depth literature survey has confirmed that this is the first report of a double-thermostad warm-core ring of the Gulf Stream and one of the best-documented cases of vertical alignment of two eddies ever observed in the World Ocean.

Résumé :
Using classical ensemble method, we have investigated the pulse duration dependence of sequential double ionization (SDI) of Ar atoms driven by circularly polarized laser pulses. The results show that the ion momentum distribution of Ar atoms depends strongly on the pulse duration. As the pulse duration increases, the ion momentum distribution changes from single-ring to double-ring structure, and finally to the single-ring structure. Back analysis of double ionization trajectories shows that the variation of the ring structure originates from the dependence of the ionization time of the second electron on the pulse duration. Moreover, our calculations clearly manifest the subcycle electron emission in sequential double ionization by circularly polarized laser pulses.

Résumé :
A double-ring infiltrometer is often used for measuring infiltration characteristics in the field, but the measurements are time-consuming and tedious, especially when several tests are to be monitored at a site. This is because the infiltrometer in its present form requires continuous attention and therefore limits the number of tests that can be monitored at a site in a given time. An automated double-ring infiltrometer has been developed to overcome these limitations. It consists of inner and outer rings, water level sensors, water container, depth sensor, solenoid valves, 12-volt car battery, laptop computer, and software to perform recording and basic analysis of the infiltration data. The infiltrometer requires little attention once the test is started and the computer provides up-to-the-minute summary of infiltration results while the test is still in progress. The automated infiltrometer worked very satisfactorily during the field trials and has considerable potential as a research and teaching tool.
