Texte intégralThe present research program aims at evaluating the use of Expressive Writing (EW) with adolescents through three studies, organized in a progressive fashion. Study 1 investigates the efficacy and moderators of EW with adolescents through a meta-analysis. The study performed a quantitative review of the EW interventions with adolescent samples, according to the following steps: systematic literature search and coding of the studies; calculation of the effect size; analysis of the moderators. Study 2 experimentally compares the short- and long-term effects of the traditional writing condition (EW) to a cognitively-oriented EW condition (CEW) on a sample of adolescents. The analyses had the objective to test the effects of altering the writing instructions on social and emotional adjustment of participants. Study 3 consists in a secondary analysis of the written essays collected in Study 2 with the intent of examining the effects of the intervention as a function of the cognitive processes (“Self-distancing”) observed during the writing sessions by means of the Group-Based Trajectory Modeling. The findings are discussed on the basis of their theoretical and practical implications.

Texte intégralThe transition to primary school constitutes an event of a great impact on the construction of children’s Self-image. In this environment, children are confronted with new learning tasks, which should develop curiosity, interest, motivation, and confidence in their own abilities, with positive effects on their well-being. However, in the face of the teacher's demands, feelings of inadequacy, anxiety, and refusal often arise. This can be particularly noticeable in the case of difficulty in learning, as learning how to read and write properly is one of the abilities on which children and their parents have greater expectations at the beginning of school. In such a challenging environment, children can develop resources that it is good to support. Based on these assumptions, three studies were conducted with the aim of: a) exploring the child's experience of well-being in a quali-quantitative way (study 1); b) identifying the factors that can affect the child's experience of well-being in the school context, through an integrated study of the characteristics of the child and his/her parents (study 2); c) implementing and evaluating a program to enhance literacy abilities and well-being of school-age children (study 3).

Texte intégralThis thesis is entitled "From «postmemory» to the writing of oblivion in the works of Sylvie Germain", and it examines the dialectic between memory and oblivion in the works of French contemporary writer Sylvie Germain. The thesis is based on the theories of «cultural memory» proposed by Maurice Halbwachs, Pierre Nora, Tzvetan Todorov, Paul Ricoeur, Aleida Assmann, and the studies about «postmemory» proposed by Marianne Hirsch. The purpose of this critical perspective is to read the works of Sylvie Germain as an example of «affiliative postmemory» (a kind of memory that results from a generational connection between those who haven’t directly experienced a particular trauma with the so-called «literal second generation»). Moreover, by means of an interdisciplinary approach the thesis aims at establishing a link between memory studies and Gender studies. It also tries to highlight the active function and the prominent role played by female characters in Germain’s novels, both as individuals and as voices for collective memory transmission. Analyzing the most recent works of Sylvie Germain (published between 2008 and 2011), the thesis focuses on the necessity of the writer to counterbalance the weight of «too much memory» by a good deal of oblivion. It also discusses and develops the questions concerning ethic responsibility and the debt to familial and collective memories. This analysis shows how Germain seems to take the role of passeuse de mémoire for future generations through her writing.

Texte intégralIn this investigation we propose to explore the definition about the notion of “politic” in theatre, by his application on the entire accomplished of Motus, an italian experimental theatre group. The assumption is to recover in the work of this collective the “politcal level” inherent in the differents fields of his productions: in primis the organizational one, explored since the debut in the theatral contemporary scene ( phase that we define as “islands in the net”) till the late occupation of spaces as the Valle theatre in Rome and Macao in Milano. In the first segment of our analisys we explore the beginning works (1995-2002), with an essential characteristic: the strong research about languages and the disaffirmation of the mimetic dimension, that describes the politic magnitude of this first segment. The second one is emblematized by instances where the politic speech is becoming more explicit: from project Pasolini to the scenic construction about the mythe of Antigone (2004-2010), the ideologic item and the theme of rebellion appear preponderancly, determining the group in the patterns that we define as “poetic terrorism”.

Texte intégralThe first part of this thesis deals with the author's biographic background and existential experiences which ostensibly contributed the most to his shifting life onto the literary page. It ends with an analysis of Diceria dell'untore , the novel which made him famous.
The dissertation provides then an in-depth analysis of the various themes connected with memory, the centrepiece of this author's artistic universe, from which he ceaselessly carves out the contents of his writings. Memory makes up his prevailing narrative structure.
This feature draws him close to French writer Marcel Proust, whom Bufalino makes frequent reference to, but from whom he succeeded in taking an arm-length stand, since Bufalino elaborates and interprets reminiscing his own way. Carrying memory's materials over into fiction, a typical procedure of European literature from the previous century, is dealt with by Bufalino in a manner all of his own.
Components from the author's regional culture, interspersed in his literary works, have been singled out, making thus possible a comparison with other Sicilian authors.
Bufalino's literary experience may thus be seen as deeply rooted in Sicily, but at one and the same time it may also be seen as an interpretation of European literary trends in the twentieth century.

Texte intégralThis thesis sets itself to re-examine Sarah Kane’s both dramaturgical and theatrical profile, starting from the reconstruction and integration of Kane’s biography and her artistic and personal interactions. This work is structured in two main sections: at first it contextualises British dramaturgy after WWII, birth-place of the first generation of the Angry Young Men and foundation for 1990’s British theatre transformation. The second section sets itself as a biographic research on Sarah Kane, integrated with unpublished documents and images. These images constitute priceless proof of Kane’s first early plays, her first directions and her mature professional itinerary. Moreover, it throws a light on Kane’s both personal and family life as well as its influence on her theatrical work. Furthermore, this in-depth study of Kane’s biography reshapes the founding characteristics of the British theatrical universe by understanding the value of: theatres, press criticism and university structures, for the configuration of the theatrical structure.

Texte intégralThe thesis examines the writing and re-writing process of Elio Vittorini’s novel 'Le donne di Messina'. First published with the title 'Lo zio Agrippa passa in treno' in 1947-1948 on “La Rassegna d’Italia”, a periodical journal directed by Francesco Flora, the novel was polished before the second edition (the first with the title 'Le donne di Messina') in 1949, published by Bompiani. Vittorini was still dissatisfied with this edition: it sounded “false”, the plot was too tragic, and he didn’t like the characterization of the protagonist, Ventura. For this reason, he wanted to re-write the novel, which was published again in 1964. The whole writing and re-writing process is attested by manuscripts and typewritten materials archived in Fondo Elio Vittorini (Università degli Studi di Milano, Centro APICE, Archivi della Parola, dell’Immagine e della Comunicazione Editoriale) and Archivio della Casa Editrice Bompiani (Milano, Fondazione Rizzoli-Corriere della Sera), never before examined by scholars. Through these archival collections I show the main phases of this process and locate the main poetical and ideological changes in the novel, in order to show Vittorini’s “cognitive boost” throughout his “work in progress”.

Texte intégralBackground: After a Pacemaker Implantation (PI) is commonly used a time of bed rest for patients to reduce the complications related to the PI. There are no international Guidelines indicating how long a patient should stay strictly in bed after PI and many different protocols exist and various information provided by physicians about the mobility of the shoulder and arm ipsilateral to the implant. During the doctoral studies we have made a retrospective analysis to assess the prevalence of complications and the frequency of administration of therapies for Back Pain (BP) or Pocket Pain (PP) into two samples of patients with several times (24 or 48 hours) of bed rest after PI. The results have observed a greater cases of haematoma and dislocations in the group mobilized after 48 hours from the implantation; the administrations of analgesics were performed less in the group who had a mobility after 24 hours from implant despite this, both groups had considerable frequency of administration of therapy for pain. Through the activities at Linköping University (Sweden), it is learned that in other countries does not apply any restrictions to the mobilization of the patients who underwent to PI nevertheless the frequency of complications related to PI remains similar with the data available from Literature. Few studies are made about this issue but they have emphasized the positive effect of an early mobilization after PI on patient safety in comparison with the long bed rest; an experimental study that have observed the effects of mobility of 3 hours following PI, compared to a bed rest of 24 hours, have not recorded a significant difference in the incidence of complications related to PI. The Aim of this pilot study is to identify the levels of pain (BP and PP) and to describe the incidence of complications (hematoma and dislocation) for patients who, after PI, have sustained two different times (3 hours and 24 hours) of bed rest. Methods: The study has an experimental design of pre-post test with control group. The population of the research are the patients who is admitted in the Units of Cardiology / Arrhythmia at Centro Cardiologico Monzino (CCM) in Milan. The sampling is done with convenience method based on inclusion and exclusion and drop-out criteria. The randomization is achieved after PI through a software. Before starting the study it was obtained the agreement of the CCM's Ethics Committee. Data collection was performed from September 2014 to December 2014. The patients in the experimental group have the possibility to mobilize after 3 hours from the PI with a bandage on the surgical site; conversely, patients in the control group have followed the ward’s standard mobilization protocol (24 hours of bed rest). The levels of BP and PP have assessed with a Number Rating Scale (NRS) in different times: admission and 3, 6, 12 hours following the PI and finally at the discharge. The cases of Hematoma and Dislocation is recorded within the discharge of patients. Complications were defined using performance indicators developed by the consultation of Literature. The cases of Hematoma were further classified according to the level of severity (minor, moderate and severe). Data analysis is performed by the advice of a statistician with the use of SAS software. version 9.2. The data are presented as frequencies and percentages for categorical variables and the description of the X2 test or the Fisher exact test were used to compare differences between groups. Continuous variables are presented as means and standard deviations or as medians and interquartile range according to the distribution of the variables. It will use the Student's t test or nonparametric Wilcoxon test to compare numeric variables according to the distribution of more variables in the study. It identifies the incidence of implant-related complications and pain levels; to assess any differences between the research groups was considered significant threshold value of p less than 5%. Results: 30 patients were enrolled; 15 mobilized after at least 3 hours (Group3h) from PI; 15 patients after 24 hours (Group24h). The most common indication for PI was the diagnosis of high atrioventricular block (n = 10) and the sinoatrial syndrome or syncope (n = 12). None of recorded variables (sex, age, education, BMI, duration of hospitalization, type of PM, antithrombotic therapy, history of pain, fixation leads, materials of sutures and hemostatic treatment of pocket) have significant differences (p <0.05) in the comparison between two study groups. The Group3h has always registered an average levels of DL smaller than the Group24h and the difference between groups were significant (p <0.05) at the assessments of pain, made at 6 and 12 hours from PI and at discharge. The mean levels of DT remain similar between the two groups, the Group24h has a rise of DT compared to the Group3h in the last two assessments of DT (12h and discharge) (p <0.05). No patient of the Group3h have requested analgesic for DL while 33.3% (n = 5) of patients of the Group24h have needed pharmacological analgesia (p = 0.042). 46.7% (n = 7) of all patients in both groups (p = 1) have requested analgesic therapy for DT, 2 patients of the Group24h had the analgesic for both type of pain. The majority of patients, who have demonstrated DL, were more aged (mean ± SD age: NO DL = 73 ± 6:03 Vs. DL = 79 ± 2.68; p = 0.008) and the most frequently found in women with DT (Males n%: NO DT = 14, 87.5% Vs. DT = 3, 21.4%; p = 0.01) comparing patients who received analgesia with those didn't have. The analysis of covariance, adjusted for sex, age and analgesics, of the Delta (Δ) between the mean levels of DL and DT at the time of three hours from the PI and next assessments of pain (6, 12 hours of PI and at discharge) have described a significant (p <0.05) difference between the two study groups. Complications related to PI have occurred only in cases of "minor hematoma" and the higher incidence of cases was observed in Group24h (n = 4, 26.7%) compared to Group3h (n = 3, 20%) (p = 1). In patients with minor hematoma was detected a significant majority of those who had received the administration of therapy with Low Molecular Weight Heparin (LMWH) or similar on the day of PI (n = 4, 67%) than those who did not have this complication (n = 2, 33%) (p = 0.016). It was calculated a sample size of 166 patients, or 83 patients per group, for future studies; such a sample size would allow the observation of a difference between the two groups at 0.07 with regard to the outcome minor hematoma, and standard deviation of the difference 0.16, with a power of 80% and a significance level of 5%. Conclusions: After PI a bed rest of 3 hours improves patient comfort by lowering the levels of DL and DT in comparison of mobility more late (24 hours). We have confirmed data from previous studies that describe even greater safety of patients who receive a early mobility (3 hours) after implantation; on the analysis performed, it is argued that the increased sample size of this study, it can lead to a statistical significance for differences in the incidence of complications of the study groups. Despite a positive effect of mobilization to three hours following PI respect to a rest time of 24 hours, it describes a major component of pain for both groups in the study; it would be desirable the development of standard care protocols to prevent and treatment of this cases. The results obtained from previous studies in which the shorter bed rest, comparing 48 than 24 hours, have described a decrease of 9% of pain, and the subsequent lowering bed rest of patients, 24 Vs. 3 hours, have observed further reduction of 30% of the cases, it is assumed that this trend will remain and the reduction of pain increase in future studies by implementing an immediate mobility of patients.

Texte intégralThis essay entitled “Come tradurre il metadiscorso letterario. Esempi di scrittura femminile nell’Ottocento austriaco/How to translate literary metadiscourse. Examples of nineteenth-century Austrian women’s writing” looks at the interlinguistic translation of non-fiction texts focusing on literary metadiscourse. More specifically, it does not analyse critical texts and/or methods, but rather functional writings of a strong pragmatic nature, which are also considered very important literary testimonies because they were written by women writers who made aesthetic expression their primary aim. The materials selected for the linguistic-textual analysis, spanning from the late eighteenth century to the mid nineteenth century, were written by women who worked in the theatre and used the pen as a tool for their intellectual and financial emancipation. The necessity of finding a way to publish their works induced them to use writing strategies connoted by special stylistic elements and rhetorical devices. These strategies aimed at favouring the acceptance and diffusion of the publishing offers of which these “paratexts” were the justifying moment. The “art of writing” is an experience that takes on many different contours, not devoid of relapses when selecting the translation strategies. In formal terms, the testimonies belong to an area of expressive mode similar to autobiographical testimonies. The historical period and the country of origin of the writers made it necessary to use an approach that could interconnect the diachronic plan with the diatopic dimension, whilst taking into account the diamesic components of a writing that was born in the theatre for the theatre and that must relate with the theatre and its regular visitors. The traductological model applied gets its fundamental lines from the reflections of textual linguistics and from the integrated/multi-disciplinary approach of “dynamic prototypology”.

Texte intégralThe topic of this research focuses on Plato's Socratic dialogues, of which a literary and socio-political analysis is proposed. By employing real historical characters, Plato aims at influencing his readers ("backwards élenchos"), just as Socrates aimed at influencing, via the dialogical method, his audience and his interlocutors. Besides providing an example of philosophical method, the dialogical style impacts on auditors and allows a reformation of society. Such a method is then analyzed in its maieutic aspects, by pointing at its strategies, its aims, and at the kind of knowledge it allows. A catalogue is provided of stylistic and dramaturgical elements, as well as textual analyses (Lachetes, Carmides, Gorgias, the Seventh Letter), which allow a detailed grasp of the Socratic and Platonic philosophical style.

Texte intégralThe aim of this paper is to analyse in depth the writing of Walter Kempowski in all its aspects, in order to seek its singularity. It would be this one, that would have allowed him to break down the wall of silence built by lager. For this reason he was able, for the first time after years, to face the traumatic reality. Why he succeeded where other contemporary writers failed? The starting point are two statements of the writer: the first, in which he admitted to write in order to rebuild his family that, according to him, has been destroyed by him; the second, in which he explained that the aim of his writing was to tell everyone what they didn’t want to hear. With a background on postmodern literary practices, the writing of Kempowski has been studied in all its most relevant details – fragmentation, irony, nonsense and music – in order to understand on the one hand, what really hides behind his Vergangenheitsbewältigung and on the other, how the writing has been able to avoid the lack of a word that would be able to deal with the recent German past.

Texte intégralINTRODUCTION Few studies in Literature have investigated the anamnestic and medical features that might be associated with increased pain levels during medical abortion. The primary aim of our study is to identify the anamnestic and clinical characteristics that may represent risk factors for intense pain levels, with particular focus on women’s pre-treatment psychological distress and anxiety levels. Moreover, we evaluate the correlation between pain and gestational age. MATERIALS AND METHODS This prospective, observational, non-pharmacological, multicentric study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Azienda USL of Bologna, and at the Department of Gynecology and Human Reproduction Physiopathology of IRCCS S. Orsola – Malpighi Hospital. We included all women who opted for medical treatment for abortion, between June 1st, 2021 and November 30th, 2021. In addition to anamnestic records and ultrasound data, women were asked to fill in the following questionnaires: GHQ-12, GAD-7, STAI-6, VAS. The potential risk factors were, therefore, selected for inclusion in the multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS On 242 women enrolled, 38.0% experienced severe pain during medical abortion. A previous history of intense dysmenorrhea appeared the strongest risk factor for pain, when evaluating the size effect of each significant predictor (OR = 6.30, 95% CI 2.66 – 14.91), followed by a GHQ-12 score > 9 (OR = 3.33, 95% CI 1.43 – 7.76). On the contrary, our analysis confirmed that a previous vaginal delivery represented a protective feature against intense pain (OR 0.26, 95% CI 0.14 – 0.50). CONCLUSIONS Our data clearly show that nulliparity, dysmenorrhea, and increased baseline anxiety levels significantly increase the likelihood of severe pain in women undergoing medical abortion. Medical abortion is a safe and effective procedure, but it is often associated with pain symptoms. The identification of women at risk for experiencing severe pain is crucial to improve women’s care.

Texte intégralObjective: To verify the impact of the background on each patient's pain perception, and highlight how the perception of pain is modified in relation to the time passed after the event that caused the pain. Materials and methods: There were 544 patients included in the study referred from the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Ward of Senigallia: 300 patients hospitalized at the Obstetrics Ward and 200 at the Gynecological section of the ward . They were given at the time of admission a closed multiple choice questionnaire, which was returned on the day of their dismissal from the hospital. Results: The pain threshold amounts to 8.76 + 1.14 (P <0.0001) in obstetric patients, and 7.62 + 1.86. (P <0.0001) in gynecological, this threshold is influenced by age (31.4 years for the obstetrical sample and 40, 08 for the gynecological), residence (higher in rural areas Obstetrical.: 7.81 + 1.28, P = 0.001 / Gynecological.: 8.68 + 1.01, P = 0.001), occupation: Workers lower (Obst: 8.9; Gyn. 7, 6 NRS scale), higher in the non-working conditions (Obst: 9.45 Gyn.: 10-scale NRS). The multiparous have the highest acceptance of pain compared with first-time mothers in both samples: 8.46 and 9 of NRS scale. The perceived pain during childbirth is expected in 45% of cases, it’s less than 38% and higher in 17%. 43% of the obstetrical sample would require analgesia while giving birth compared to 22% of the gynecological sample. Conclusions: Our study showed that the background of a patient influences the perception of pain itself, and that this perception changes in relation to time passed after the event that caused the pain.
