Résumé :
In the modern world of globalization, Digital Forensic science has emerged as a pivotal investigative tool for solving complex cases. This discipline proves particularly effective in deciphering digital evidence. In this study, we ventured to examine a Network Area Storage (NAS) device, specifically one containing three hard disks. Our objective was to validate that the Hash value generated before the duplication process matches identically with the Hash value post-imaging or duplication. Our findings demonstrate that through reconfiguration and recovery of RAID 0, previously deleted files can be restored using the methods outlined in our research. In essence, this study establishes that: (1) Reconstruction of RAID configurations is feasible, (2) Recovery of deleted files from a RAID 0 system is achievable, and (3) Such restored data can serve as admissible evidence in court.

Résumé :
We propose a method for digital printing which is novel and efficient. Digital printing is a technical breakthrough in the field of traditional printing and dyeing industry, which is also an effective solution to solve the three high problem, namely, high energy consumption, high noise, high pollution, in the traditional printing and dyeing industry. However, the widely used methods in printing and dyeing system have some deficiencies, such as the low performance of the PC processor and the limitation of transferring data by parallel interface. The proposed method takes advantage of multi-core processor, DMA and RAID technology. Multi-core processor can speed up the processing of the print command and the print images, while DMA technology can minimize the intervention of the CPU to input/output operations which makes the CPU more effective to process the images. Furthermore, the use of RAID technology can improve the access speed of the hard disk which leading to the efficiency improvement of the entire computer system. As we can see that the combination of those three technologies can greatly improve the efficiency of digital printing machine, thus speeding up the popularity of digital printing.

Résumé :
The digital transformation disrupts the various professional domains in different ways, though one aspect is common: the unified platform known as cloud computing. Corporate solutions, IoT systems, analytics, business intelligence, and numerous tools, solutions and systems use cloud computing as a global platform. The migrations to the cloud are increasing, causing it to face new challenges and complexities. One of the essential segments is related to data storage. Data storage on the cloud is neither simplistic nor conventional; rather, it is becoming more and more complex due to the versatility and volume of data. The inspiration of this research is based on the development of a framework that can provide a comprehensive solution for cloud computing storage in terms of replication, and instead of using formal recovery channels, erasure coding has been proposed for this framework, which in the past proved itself as a trustworthy mechanism for the job. The proposed framework provides a hybrid approach to combine the benefits of replication and erasure coding to attain the optimal solution for storage, specifically focused on reliability and recovery. Learning and training mechanisms were developed to provide dynamic structure building in the future and test the data model. RAID architecture is used to formulate different configurations for the experiments. RAID-1 to RAID-6 are divided into two groups, with RAID-1 to 4 in the first group while RAID-5 and 6 are in the second group, further categorized based on FTT, parity, failure range and capacity. Reliability and recovery are evaluated on the rest of the data on the server side, and for the data in transit at the virtual level. The overall results show the significant impact of the proposed hybrid framework on cloud storage performance. RAID-6c at the server side came out as the best configuration for optimal performance. The mirroring for replication using RAID-6 and erasure coding for recovery work in complete coherence provide good results for the current framework while highlighting the interesting and challenging paths for future research

Résumé :
In early 2012, 76 heavily armed police conducted a raid on a house in Auckland, New Zealand. The targets were Kim Dotcom, a German national with a NZ residency visa, and several colleagues affiliated with Megaupload, an online subscription-based peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing facility. The alleged offences involved facilitating unlawful file sharing and United States federal criminal copyright violations. Following the raid, several court cases provide valuable insights into emerging ‘global policing’ practices (Bowling and Sheptycki 2012) based on communications between sovereign enforcement agencies. This article uses these cases to explore the growth of ‘extraterritorial’ police powers that operate ‘across borders’ (Nadelmann 1993) as part of several broader transformations of global policing in the digital age.

Résumé :
BackgroundRheumatoid arthritis(RA) is a systemic chronic autoimmune disease that involves inflammatory arthritis with varying severity showing various symptoms like pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbances impacting and reducing the quality of life(QoL).[1] Patients with RA experience reduced QoL, physical and emotional health as well as level of independence etc and they are more likely to suffer from anxiety, depression and low self-esteem, with high levels of associated mortality and suicide.[3] Addressing the need to improve the quality of life and symptom burden for these patients are vital where Digital solutions play an incredibly significant role. These solutions are also helpful in self-management of disease and symptoms.ObjectivesTo assess the impact of a digital health program on the quality of life and symptom burden of patients suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis.MethodsAn interventional trial including an RA patient support program was delivered by Wellthy Care digital platform over a period of 16 weeks. Recruitment of 30 patients was done using a convenient sampling method. Patients who were diagnosed with RA were included in the trial. Patients who were under 18, pregnant/lactating, and with hearing disability were excluded. The program included interventions such as physiotherapy sessions, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) counselling, tracking of symptoms, lifestyle counselling, disease awareness and self-management training of symptoms at home. The rheumatoid arthritis impact of disease (RAID) [2] questionnaire, a validated questionnaire was administered to assess seven important patient domains of disease impact (pain, function, fatigue, sleep disturbance, emotional well-being, physical well-being, coping) at baseline and at the end of the program.ResultsThe Mean RAID score of the patients at baseline was 4.99 and at endline was 0.737. The impact percentage of program in improvement of symptoms like Pain, Difficulty in doing daily physical activities, Fatigue, Sleep difficulty, level of physical well-being, level of emotional well being were 85.66%, 86.40%, 88.81%, 96.47%, 85.66%, 93.89% respectively. The Paired T-test witnessed significant improvement in symptoms like pain, sleep disturbances, fatigue, difficulty in performing physical activities (p<0.001).ConclusionDigital therapeutics play a highly significant role in improving the quality of life and reducing the symptom burden of RA patients. The digital patient support program led to meaningful changes in a patient’s quality of life as well as symptoms within a few weeks, even when the patient previously failed to experience a good prognosis during the treatment. Patients reported a highly significant improvement in Pain, Fatigue and Sleep disturbances, which improved the quality of life and patient’s outlook of the overall treatment and adherence. These digital solutions can be considered as holistic care and integrated with routine supportive care in practice to provide improved patient-centred care. RAID score functions well as a good patient reported outcome measure in routine health care for patients with RA.References[1]Malm K, Bergman S, Andersson MLE, Bremander A, Larsson I. Magnetic tape is the primary medium used to capture and store unprocessed data from remote sensing satellites. Recent advances in digital cassette recording technology have resulted in the introduction of a range of data recorders which are equally at home working alongside conventional recorders or as part of more advanced data capture strategies. This paper shows how users are taking advantage of the convenience, economy and efficiency of this new generation of cassette-based equipment in a range of practical applications.

For the last 30 years Magnetic Tape Systems have been the primary means of recording data from airborne instrumentation systems. Increasing data rates and harsh environmental requirements have often exceeded the ability of tape-based systems to keep pace with technology. Throughout this time data recordings have been made mostly with analog longitudinal systems and most recently with digital recording systems that record on commercial DLT, and super VHS tape media. The recordings are played back with the same type of tape device allowing for the data to be processed and/or archived. Since not all data reduction facilities can process the same type of tape media, often tapes are dubbed from one type of tape media format to another, corrupting the translated data. This paper examines operational and data reduction benefits, and life cycle cost of Solid State Recorders as a replacement for existing airborne tape recorders.

Résumé :
A versatile and efficient computer-aided analysis tool, CUREST, has been developed for the analysis of supply currents in CMOS digital circuits. It is based on Nabavi-Lishi's semi-analytical model for computing the current and delay in a CMOS logic gate which, when compared to HSPICE running the level-3 MOSFET model, is more than three orders of magnitude faster, and accurate to within 10%. CUREST is built on top of the timing analyser TAMIA and, in particular, uses its circuit parser and its data structure to store the circuit topology and primary input pattern.
Extension tests on benchmark circuits containing up to 555 gates, which were analysed with CUREST using thousands of primary input patterns, demonstrate that the current analysis time is in the range of 1ms per gate per input pattern, using a SUN4/490 workstation with 32 Mb of main memory, running the SUN OS 4.103 operating system. The peak value of the total supply current, the current rise-time, and the time at which the peak occurs are usually computed to within 10% of HSPICE. However, appreciable errors often occur in the average current. This is because at the moment we do not have a good model for dealing with incomplete transitions associated with glitches in a CMOS gate.

Digital fabrication aims to bring the programmability of the digital world into the physical world and has the potential to radically transform the way we make things. We are are developing a novel digital fabrication technique where a small basis set of discrete part types, called "digital materials", are reversibly joined into large assemblies with embedded functionality. Objects constructed this way may be programmed with exotic functional behavior based on the composition of their constituent parts. In this thesis I build an end-to end computer-aided design (CAD), simulation, and manufacturing (CAM) pipeline for digital materials that respects the discretization of the parts in its underlying software representation. I propagate the same abstract geometric "cell" representation of parts from the design workflow into simulation and path planning. I develop a dynamic model for simulating anisotropic, multimaterial assemblies of cells with embedded mechanical and electronic functionality based on local interactions. I demonstrate the similarities between my mechanical model and the Timoshenko Beam Element. I note an advantage of my model for simulating flexural joints is its non-linear treatment of angular displacements - allowing for large angular deformations to be simulated without costly remeshing. I implement this model in software and demonstrate its potential for parallelization by calculating each cell-cell interaction in a separate core of the GPU. I compare my simulation results with a professional multiphysics software package. I demonstrate that my tool facilitates rapid exploration of the design space around functional digital materials with several examples.

Résumé :
This study introduces the demand for rapid digital transformation in this changing digital era. While all companies face challenges when approaching digital transformations, SMEs are at a disadvantage in regard to their resource constraints. However, the existing academic field lacks in research about rapid digital transformation for SMEs. Therefore, this study aims to answer the research questions “How can SMEs rapidly digitally transform?” and “How is rapid defined in the context of digital transformation?”. The purpose is to understand the process of digital transformation to develop a conceptual framework on how SMEs can undergo a rapid digital transformation. We approached this with an abductive and qualitative method. Semi-structured interviews were performed with Swedish consultants, a CDO and a CEO of a SME. The gathered data was analyzed together with the frame of reference, which was structured into four categories. These are digital transformation, strategy, business model and digital culture. The findings of this study presented the definition for rapid in the context of digital transformation to be a timeframe up to twelve months. Moreover, we constructed a model that guides SMEs to achieve a rapid digital transformation. However, as the model was not tested in practice, we recommend future researchers to do so.

Because of the harm that severe root resorption may cause and considering the digital subtraction technique (DSR) as an important tool for early detection of mineral alterations, the aims on the present study are to assess the efficiency of a computer software for image registration and DSR on the diagnosis of simulated root resorption, to compare their results with those obtained with digital radiographs, and to assess the intra- and inter-examiner agreement using the two methods of diagnosis. Forty nine teeth with simulated lingual and apical root resorptions of varied extension were x-rayed with different projection angles. The radiographs were registered a posteriori with Regeemy® software and subtracted with Image Tool® software. The amount of structural noise of the subtracted images was evaluated by measuring the mean and standard-deviation of their gray levels. The performance of each method of diagnosis was assessed by submitting pairs of periapical radiographs and the subtracted images to the evaluation of three oral radiologists. According to the results, the structural noise of subtracted images from radiographs with variations of 10º and 20º of vertical angle and 10º of horizontal angle was significantly higher than the obtained from the radiographs without angular variation, independently from the anatomic region of the image. There was no statistically significant difference between the methods on the detection of apical root resorptions independently from the size of the lesion as well as no statistically significant difference was found between the methods on the detection of lingual resorptions of 1.2mm or more. DSR was significantly superior to the digital radiographs on the detection of lingual lesions of around 1mm. Lingual lesions of around 0.5mm were not precisely detected by any of the methods. DSR was significantly superior to the digital radiographs on the detection of lingual lesions of around 1mm. Lingual lesions of around 0.5mm were not precisely detected by any of the methods. The inter- and intra-examiner agreements were substantial... (Complete abstract, click electronic access below)

Résumé :
Social media platforms have been pivotal in redefining the conduct of contemporary society. Amid the proliferation of a range of new and ubiquitous online platforms, YouTube, a video-based platform, remains a key driver in the democratisation of creative, playful, vernacular, intimate, as well as political expressions. As a critical node of contemporary communication and digital cultures, its steady uptake and appropriation in a social media-savvy nation such as the Philippines requires a critical examination of its role in the continued reconstruction of identities, communities, and broader social institutions. This book closely analyses the diverse content and practices of amateur Filipino YouTubers, exposing and problematising the dynamics of brokering the contested aspirational logics of beauty and selfhood, interracial relationships, world-class labour, and progressive governance in a digital sphere. Ultimately, Philippine Digital Cultures: Brokerage Dynamics on YouTube offers a fresh, compelling, and nuanced account of YouTube as an important site for the mediation of culture, economy, and politics in Philippine postcolonial modernity amid rapid economic globalisation and digitalisation.

Résumé :
AbstractFor decades, intrapreneurship has been, and is still, promoted to employees as a way to capture the creativity and excitement of entrepreneurship, albeit with more resources and less risk. Intrapreneurship creates opportunities for individuals to be innovative and entrepreneurial within and for the organisation that employs them. The ways in which intrapreneurs act have not changed, unlike the business context surrounding them. Digitalisation has opened the path for new intrapreneurial opportunities; however, the amount of attention paid to the role of digital intrapreneurs within existing organisations is limited. We present our own definition of digital intrapreneurship and position our definition in the digital landscape where modern companies operate. This chapter outlines numerous ways to foster digital intrapreneurship, including a set of practical methods for managers to identify, and empower digital intrapreneurs. The chapter presents three case studies and discusses their practical implications for entrepreneurs and their teams.

Texte intégral
Résumé :
This Safety IDEA project-31 extends the design process for the accessible sleeper compartments to include 3-D digital modeling and anthropometric analyses and uses a full-scale soft mock-up of the sleeper compartment. The use of computer-aided design tools permits human factors constraints, including minimum spatial requirements and reach limitations, to be determined within the conceptual design phase without physical prototyping and data collection. In this ongoing study, physical prototyping in the form of a full-scale soft mock-up is used to validate digital results. Successful validation would indicate that anthropometric digital human models based on regular anthropometric databases may be used to design for populations with reduced mobility, provided that the wheeled mobility devices are modelled appropriately and advance the design process for accessible spaces. The soft mock-up permits spatial evaluation by the general public including people with disabilities. An online survey is also available to gather feedback and the needs and values of the target population. Representatives of the passenger rail industry are involved throughout the project and have been invited to participate in the evaluation of the soft mock up. The results of the project are validated designs for new accessible sleeper compartments for bi-level and single-level rail cars and include seating, sleeping, and restroom spaces. This will be disseminated for use by the passenger rail industry.

Résumé :
This rapid review synthesises the literature on the environmental risks of four different aspects of digital transformation in developing countries: ICT adoption, digitally-enabled energy efficiency, ride-hailing apps, and big data use. The overall message which runs throughout the diverse literatures and results is that it is not digital technologies that create environmental risks or opportunities, but how they are used. Efficiency gains derived from digital transformation may yet lead developing countries down existing unsustainable development paths if not accompanied by careful, context-dependent policy. For policy-makers seeking to mitigate environmental risks, this means putting the context of digital use at the centre of analysis rather than the technologies themselves. However, the research literature covers more specific aspects of digital transformation. In practice, this report defines digital transformation as: ICT adoption, digitally-enabled energy efficiency, ride-hailing apps, and big data use. These topics were chosen after an initial scoping review of available literature, and because they exemplify a range of the different types of potential digital effects. The literature on the environmental risks of digital transformation is huge and conflicting. This is problematic because it could be easy to cherry pick preferred research results. Several studies noted that there is less research on developing countries than developed countries, but the evidence base is still large. As an evidence review, this report focused on the academic literature, but there is also a large grey literature. Some of the literature has a gender aspect, not covered in this report.

Roberts, Tony, et Becky Faith. Digital Aid : Understanding the Digital Challenges Facing Humanitarian Assistance. Institute of Development Studies, mars 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/ids.2021.030.

Résumé :
The UKRI Digital Aid workshop on 9 September 2019 brought together expert practitioners and researchers to focus on the use of digital technologies in humanitarian aid. Participants brought wide experience of digital applications to monitor conflict, refugees, food security, and to reunite families, enable communication and increase donor value for money. The event identified key areas where the rapid pace of technological change is outstripping our current understanding of emerging risks, digital inequalities and ethical dilemmas associated with the use of digital technologies in humanitarian response. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in their contribution to the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation warned that it is of critical importance to ‘keep humanitarian purpose, and the people humanitarian organizations are there to protect and assist, firmly at the centre of any developments in order to ensure the humanitarian response do no harm in their application’ (ICRC 2019). Yet workshop discussions showed how humanitarian practitioners are struggling to operationalise the “do no harm” principle in the context of a rapidly changing technological landscape. Workshop participants felt that research has a vital role to play in protecting the interests of vulnerable communities in the digital age.

Résumé :
There is increasing impetus for stronger cooperation between the US, EU and UK on digital technology governance. Drivers of this trend include the economic incentives arising from opportunities for digital trade; the ambition for digital technology governance to be underpinned by shared values, including support for a democratic, open and global internet; and the need to respond to geopolitical competition, especially from China. Two specific areas of governance in which there is concrete potential to collaborate, and in which policymakers have indicated significant ambitions to do so, are digital trade and digital technical standards. - To leverage strategic opportunities for digital trade, the US, EU and UK need to continue identifying and promoting principles based on shared values and agendas, and demonstrate joint leadership at the global level, including in the World Trade Organization (WTO) on e-commerce. - Policy actors in the US, EU and UK should work individually and collectively to build on the latest generation of digital trade agreements. This will help to promote closer alignment on digital rules and standards, and support the establishment of more up-to-date models for innovation and governance. - Collaborating on digital technical standards, particularly those underlying internet governance and emerging technologies, offers the US, EU and UK strategic opportunities to build a vision of digital technology governance rooted in multi-stakeholder participation and democratic values. This can provide a strong alternative to standards proposals such as China’s ‘New IP’ system. - Policy actors should seek to expand strategic cooperation on standards development among the US, EU and UK, among like-minded countries, and among states that are undecided on the direction of their technology governance, including in the Global South. They should also take practical steps to incorporate the views and expertise of the technology industry, the broader private sector, academia and civil society. By promoting best-practice governance models that are anticipatory, dynamic and flexible, transatlantic efforts for cooperation on digital regulation can better account for the rapid pace of technological change. Early evidence of this more forward-looking approach is emerging through the EU’s proposed regulation of digital services and artificial intelligence (AI), and in the UK’s proposed legislation to tackle online harms. The recently launched EU-US Trade and Technology Council is a particularly valuable platform for strengthening cooperation in this arena. But transatlantic efforts to promote a model of digital governance predicated on democratic values would stand an even greater chance of success if the council’s work were more connected to efforts by the UK and other leading democracies
