Résumé :
The calibration of the effects of process variations and device mismatch in Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Digital-Based Operational Transconductance Amplifiers (DB-OTAs) is addressed in this paper. For this purpose, two dynamic calibration techniques, intended to dynamically vary the effective strength of critical gates by different modulation strategies, i.e., Digital Pulse Width Modulation (DPWM) and Dyadic Digital Pulse Modulation (DDPM), are explored and compared to classic static calibration. The effectiveness of the calibration approaches as a mean to recover acceptable performance in non-functional samples is verified by Monte-Carlo (MC) post-layout simulations performed on a 300 mV power supply, nW-power DB-OTA in 180 nm CMOS. Based on the same MC post-layout simulations, the impact of each calibration strategy on silicon area, power consumption, and OTA performance is discussed.

Résumé :
Within the most productive route, online travel agencies (OTAs) intend to use advanced digital media ads to expand their piece of the industry as a whole. The metasearch engine platforms are among the most consistently used digital media environments by OTAs. Most OTAs offer day by day deals in metasearch engine platforms that are paying per click for each hotel to get reservations. The administration of offering methodologies is critical along these lines to reduce costs and increase revenue for online travel agencies. In this study, we tried to predict both the number of impressions and the regular Click-Through-Rate (CTR) level of hotel advertising for each hotel and the daily sales amount. A significant commitment of our research is to use an extended dataset generated by integrating the most informative features implemented in various related studies as the rolling average for a different amount of day and shifted values for use in the proposed test stage for CTR, impression and sales prediction. The data is created in this study by one of Turkey’s largest OTA, and we are giving OTA’s a genuine application. The results at each prediction stage show that enriching the training data with the OTA-specific additional features, which are the most insightful and sliding window techniques, improves the prediction models ’ generalization capability, and tree-based boosting algorithms carry out the greatest results on this problem. Clustering the dataset according to its specifications also improves the results of the predictions.

Résumé :
This paper presents a novel implementation of a digital-based Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA) which has been recently introduced in the technical literature as a fully digital alternative to the conventional differential pair to implement low voltage analog amplifiers and comparators. The proposed implementation does not make use of resistors, floating gate resistors nor C-Muller elements and is made up of only digital gates usually available in the standard cell libraries. The resulting analog circuit schematic can be described using structural VHDL or Verilog languages and is suitable to be integrated in an automatic synthesis and place and route flow for digital circuits. The proposed digital-based amplifier has been implemented in a commercial 130 nm CMOS process by using an automatic place and route flow for layout generation starting from the Verilog netlist. Post layout simulations are presented to show the performance of the proposed circuit and compare it against the state of the art.

Résumé :
IntroductionTobacco advertisement bans in Indonesia are rare and seldom evaluated. The recent introduction of an outdoor tobacco advertisement (OTA) ban in Banyuwangi District, East Java, Indonesia provided an opportunity to evaluate such policy.MethodsUsing a mixed-methods approach, we undertook an observational study of OTA in 15 locations where such advertising had been prohibited. We also interviewed a sample of 114 store-owners/storekeepers and 131 community members, and conducted indepth interviews with government officials and the Public Order Agency (POA), the designated enforcement agency.ResultsIn phase 1 we found only one location was free of advertisements. We identified 667 advertisement points and 1283 advertisement materials in the study location; of these, 7% and 7.8% were within 25 m of schools and religious sites, respectively. Phase 2 showed that 68% of the respondents were unaware of the regulation, but many supported an OTA ban. Indepth interviews revealed that not all members of the POA were familiar with the regulation. POA members believed they will enforce the regulation better if higher level regulation for ban on tobacco advertisements, promotions and sponsorships was made and digital application is available to support surveillance.ConclusionPolicy violations were evident 1 year after the launch of OTA ban in Banyuwangi. Tobacco advertisements are still visible, including near schools and religious sites, potentially stimulating adolescents to smoke. Regional regulation and setting specific violation reductions as a performance indicator for POA could improve compliance. App-based technology could assist violation surveillance and reporting, as could awareness-raising campaigns that encouraged community support to report violation through the apps.

In this paper, we review a procedure to study the effects of temperature in the design of A/D circuits based on CNTFETs. At first, we briefly describe a compact model, already proposed by us, in which the temperature variation in the drain current equation and in energy band gap is considered. Then, the effects of temperature variations in the design of analog circuits, such as a cascode current sink mirror and an Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA), and in the design of digital circuits including in particular NAND and NOR logic gates, are illustrated and widely discussed.

Résumé :
The design of an interface to a specific sensor induces costs and design time mainly related to the analog part. So to reduce these costs, it should have been standardized like digital electronics. The aim of the present work is the elaboration of a method based on multiobjectives genetic algorithms (MOGAs) to allow automated synthesis of analog and mixed systems. This proposed methodology is used to find the optimal dimensional transistor parameters (length and width) in order to obtain operational amplifier performances for analog and mixed CMOS-(complementary metal oxide semiconductor-) based circuit applications. Six performances are considered in this study, direct current (DC) gain, unity-gain bandwidth (GBW), phase margin (PM), power consumption (P), area (A), and slew rate (SR). We used the Matlab optimization toolbox to implement the program. Also, by using variables obtained from genetic algorithms, the operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) is simulated by using Cadence Virtuoso Spectre circuit simulator in standard TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) RF 0.18 μm CMOS technology. A good agreement is observed between the program optimization and electric simulation.

Résumé :
In this work different generations of field effect tunneling transistor (TFET) are evaluated through DC digital and analog figures of merits. For TFET devices the main digital figure of merit is the subthreshold slope (SS), while for analog application the intrinsic voltage gain (AV) is the most important one. For the early generations, that are based on silicon, the SS does not reach values smaller than 60mV/dec at room temperature, however, the AV reaches values up to 80 dB, showing to be promising for analog applications. As the TFETs were being optimized for digital applications and consequently presenting better switching performance, the intrinsic voltage gain moves in the opposite direction. This opposite trend is related to which transport mechanism is predominant for each type of device. While III-V TFETs are more dependent on Band to Band Tunneling (BTBT), silicon devices are more relying on Trap-Assisted Tunneling (TAT). While BTBT allows for faster switching, TAT is less dependent on the drain electric field, so the former favors SS while the latter favors AV. Based on the good analog behavior of silicon channel TFETs, a two-stage operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) was designed with different TFET technologies and the compared results were discussed.

Rapid growth of digital technology and wide availability of network access lead to digital contents getting much easier. Digital contents can be easily duplicated and have the characteristic of easy transmission. Those contents can be used, copied and spread without limit until those contents has been protected. The purpose of the development of digital rights management system is to protect digital content. But most of these systems belong to customized specifications. Different digital rights management systems are lacked of the interoperability. In this thesis, the specifications proposed by Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) are adopted to design the framework of the proposed digital right management system. The system consists of different modules for modulability. The digital content is protected via both encryption and right description. The encrypted digital content and its right object are sent to the user separated. Finally, the user must install the provided offline player for playing the digital contents.

The popularity of mobile and digital devices leads the varied application of digital contents. Taiwanese government has encouraged the use of digital contents by financially supported projects such as National Central Library National Digital Archives Plan. The benefits and the issues of digital contents are ease to get, ease to transmit, and ease to share. On the other hand, how to prevent the misuse or protect suitable copyright is an incoming issue of digital content. When commercial behavior is involved, digital contents exchange has become more complicated. Different and unique terms might need to be applied in specific transactions. Multiple participants can also be involved in a single business transaction. Thus, a dynamic, scalable and fair trading environment is required. This research tries to understand the requirements of digital content commerce environment to build a well-fitted transaction model. Firstly, the factors of traditional (paper based) digital publishing environment are being studied to understand each role and procedures. Then, the derived factors of digital publishing can be learned. This paper shows the differences between paper-based publishing and digital publishing, and refers to the terms of OMA DRM Framework. Using the database to achieve the same specification on the Web, this research eventually creates a digital publishing environment that involves digital platform for publishers and readers. Using the concepts of web-service and cloud computing meets the network environment’s dynamic usage demand and also achieve a safe and fair trading process.

Résumé :
Over the last few years, the digital technologies have grown at a rapid pace and have become a part of the daily lives of billions of people across the world. The advancements in the field of telecommunications and the availability of devices with enhanced capabilities have a major role to play in this growth. Numerous studies have also addressed and explained about this emerging trend in the entertainment and media industry in many parts of the world. Over-the-top services, commonly known as OTT, are delivered directly through a stable internet connection. Consumers are spending more time on the internet than ever before. The internet has become an essential part of their lives, and so is the usage of OTT. There has been a shift in the habits of consumers, particularly young consumers, between the age group of 16-34 years. For OTT players to continue and succeed further, a combination of ad-based models and subscription-based models seem viable. Here the authors have tried to understand the major factors responsible for the adoption OTT services among Indian consumers.

Presently, there are three main ESG systems used in DVB-H (DVB, 2004) systems : 1. CBMS (DVB, 2006), promoted by the digital video broadcasting project (DVB). 2. OAI (NOKIA, 2006), promoted by NOKIA. 3. OMA (OMA, 2006), still in draft version, promoted by the open mobile alliance. All of them have a lot of similarities and are based on same concepts and technologies. Some of these similarities are: • The use of XML (W3C, 1998) to describe fragments. • The use of FLUTE (Paila, Luby, Lehtonen, Roca, & Walsh, 2004) as transport protocol. • A similar data model. • All of them can split the broadcast contents in several sessions.

Résumé :
This paper adds to the research on digitization and money in HCI. By presenting a case of rickshaw drivers in India and their use of Ola, an app-based taxi service like Uber, and Ola Money, an embedded m-wallet, this paper makes a threefold contribution. First, it shows how cash and digital money are not simply different manifestations of the ‘same' money for users. They provide distinct affordances and have different meanings and values, yielding rich insights for design. Second, it seeks to highlight the hidden work done by users around making digital money ‘work' for them. In doing so, it calls for a broader understanding of ‘moneywork' that goes beyond a temporal analysis, through the concept of ‘mobility work'. Finally, it highlights the role of ‘friction' in design. Friction is crucial to users' negotiation of the trade-off between consumption and saving, and can be leveraged to provoke reflection and user-awareness.

Résumé :
With the emergence of high-speed optical transmission, the pre-existing plesiochronous digital hierarchy (PDH) appeared unsuitable for achieving network synchronization, leading to the development of the synchronous optical network (SONET) and synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) as the two equivalent standards for circuit-switched optical networks. Several bandwidth-efficient techniques were also developed to carry packet-switched data traffic over SONET/SDH networks, offering some useful data-over-SONET/SDH architectures. Subsequently, with the increasing transmission rates for SONET/SDH and Ethernet-based LANs, a convergent networking platform called optical transport network (OTN), was developed. With the ever-increasing volume of bursty data traffic, a standard for packet-switched ring networks, called resilient packet ring (RPR), was also developed for better bandwidth realization in optical fibers. In this chapter, we first present the SONET/SDH networks and the techniques for supporting the data traffic therein, followed by a description of the basic concepts and salient features of the OTN and RPR networks. Résumé :
For many years now, communication in the industrial sector has been characterized by a new trend of integrating the wireless concept through cyber-physical systems (CPS). This emergence, known as the Smart Factory, is based on the convergence of industrial trades and digital applications to create an intelligent manufacturing system. This will ensure high adaptability of production and more efficient resource input. It should be noted that data is the key element in the development of the Internet of Things ecosystem. Thanks to the IoT, the user can act in real time and in a digital way on his industrial environment, to optimize several processes such as production improvement, machine control, or optimization of supply chains in real time. The choice of the connectivity strategy is made according to several criteria and is based on the choice of the sensor. This mainly depends on location (indoor, outdoor, …), mobility, energy consumption, remote control, amount of data, sending frequency and security. In this chapter, we present an Industrial IoT architecture with two operating modes: MtO (Many-to-One) and OtM (One-to-Many). An optimal choice of the wavelet in terms of bit error rate is made to perform simulations in an industrial channel. A model of this channel is developed in order to simulate the performance of the communication architecture in an environment very close to industry. The optimization of the communication systems is ensured by error correcting codes.

Résumé :
The planar microelectrode array (pMEA) is an important tool for non-invasive recording in the fields of neuroscience and biosensing. It can be used for extra-cellular measurement of the induced voltage on an electrode underneath a cell upon the occurrence of an action potential. With the principle of capacitive coupling, the sensed electrode signal amplitudes typically range between 100 μV and 1 mV, depending on the cell type. Due to the small amplitude of original neural signals, signal conditioning and processing microelectronics units are necessary to integrate with the pMEA sensor for achievement of best measurement performance. Introducing fully customized ASIC into the microelectrode array substrate provides an efficient solution, which establishes the possibility of creating the biosensor system on chip (SoC) with a large number of sensing-sites for simultaneous measurement without introducing significant noise from the signal conditioning and processing circuitry [1]. In this research work, we have developed a fully customized biosensor chip for sensing the propagation of action potentials. With the paralleled multiple sub-circuits, this prototype multi-site planar microelectrode array biosensor integrates 24 (4 × 6) microelectrode array sensing sites, 24 parallel analog neural signal buffers and a shared OTA based high gain amplifier on the same substrate. Figure 1 depicts the biosensor chip architecture and the functional blocks of the biosensor system setup. The prototyped biosensor chip was fabricated by MOSIS using AMI C5 0.5μm, double poly, triple metal layer CMOS technology. The electroless gold plating process post-CMOS processing and packaging techniques were applied to the biosensor chip to promote the biocompatibility and stability in the aqueous cell culture environment. To interface the biosensor chip with PC, a microcontroller based electronic system is necessary to implement the functions of A/D conversion, biosensor chip control signal generation, digital signal processing and data/command communication between biosensor chip and GUI software running on PC. In this research work, a Motorola ColdFire MCF5307 microcontroller based electronic system was setup to serve as the interface between the biosensor chip and PC, which realized the full functions listed above. The firmware running on MCF5307 microcontroller was implemented with ColdFire assembly language where on the PC client Matlab platform was chosen to simply the software design work.

This paper describes a new method of detecting moire signals produced by radial gratings in phase, based on digital signal processing. The system, whose core is a microcomputer, was designed to convert the moire signal in digital data. Because the technique of digital frequency analysis is used in analyzing the digital moire signal, it is possible to study quantitatively the performance figure of the moire signal and the characteristics of the driving system. By processing the digital moire signal, the phase of any point plotted on the moire contour is detected and the signal can be divided in hundreds. Instead of analog processors, the effect of digital processors may be super. In particular, it is possible to improve the accuracy of detecting radial gratings.

Résumé :
Many optical signal processing and computing applications require the availability of a fast analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. As a basic building block, an electro-optic directional coupler was used for an optical A/D converter implementation. Previously we have shown that an optical theta-modulation effect could be used for an optical A/D conversion application. In this presentation, an acousto-optic theta-modulation A/D conversion architecture is proposed. An acoustooptic device is used as an optical FM modulator that maps input voltage to an output beam deflection angle. To cast the deflected optical intensity its binary format, a prefabricated intensity-coded A/D conversion mask is used. By means of a commercially available GaP acousto-optic deflector, a 1 new acousto-optic, theta-modulation A/D device in various optical signal processing and computing applications will be addressed.

Résumé :
A conventional binary multiplication scheme, after forming an array of partial products, uses a series of ripple carry additions. To increase a multiplication speed, an optical digital multiplication through an analog convolution (DMAC) algorithm was proposed. However, because of the inherent analog processing disadvantages and lack of a large dynamic range A-D converter for the proposed optical DMAC scheme, it is difficult to compete with a fast electronic multiplication scheme. In this paper a new approach is proposed to modify a standard optical DMAC scheme. Instead of using an A-D converter and an array of ripple carry adders, an array of multiple input binary symmetric logic modules (BSLM) is employed for the generation of a set of fast multiple digit binary additions. Fundamental properties of a BSLM and its key role in the proposed optical fast multiplication scheme are addressed.
