Résumé :
In this article, the author has already discussed about laws in Judaism, that are the key dietary laws in Judaism, commentary of dietary laws, vegetarianism and Judaism, the slaughter house, and why there are especial laws in Judaism. As a religion, contained; a great history, literature, culture and ritualistic customs it shows its identity among other world religions. Having vegetarian food has been appreciated in Judaism in its early history like other world religions. As the second step it has been allowed for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food introducing some ethical instruction on the subject of kosher food, laws of ritual slaughter, slaughterer, torn apart for eating living beings. This can be considered as a norm in Judaism.

Résumé :
سامی ادیان میں جانوروں کی حلت و حرمت کےمتعلق احکامات کا تجزیاتی مطالعہ Dietary rules and regulations may govern particular phases of the human life cycle and may also be associated with special events. Dietary Laws are grounded into the religious thought, and anyone expects logical clarifications for the continuation and determination of these rules in light of the respective religious tradition. The Semitic religions: orthodox Jews, Christians and Muslims have undoubtedly directed their adherents about the foodstuff “meat” with particular terms and conditions. This study attempts to define the similarities and differences between Halal and Kashrut (Kosher) in the light of their religion's commandments. The study confined to the Holy Scriptures. A comparative approach has been applied to these dietary practices. Moreover, it was found that Halal constitutes a different dietary law (Shariah) than Kashrut and vice versa. Even though similarities are found but it does not permit for the statutes to be usually supposed as reflection of each other. This analytical work will provide theoretical orientation; make reference to relevant theoretical and empirical literature for adequate clarification and comprehension where needed. To avoid pointless details, only the verse number mentioned in footnotes and extracted commands are just mentioned in the article. Qualitative research methodology has been adopted about the dietary laws about animals in Semitic Religions.

Résumé :
The article proposes that Jesus’ parable in Mark 7:14-19a and Mark’s editorial comment in 7:19b uphold the validity of the Torah’s ritual purity system. Prioritization, not abrogation, is the aim of Jesus’ teaching. The Markan insertion was likely intended as a historicaltheological justification for the Jerusalem Council’s exemption of Gentile Christians from the Leviticus 11 dietary laws; Pauline influence is also plausible. The article calls into question the use of revocation terminology by commentators to explicate the parenthesis. From the Jewish Christian perspective, as implied in the Apostolic Decree, the dietary laws remained incumbent on Jews. Against this Acts 15 backdrop, Mark 7:19b is best understood as a matter of Gentile halakhic application and not an apocalyptic pronouncement that all foods are now clean. Recognition of this Jew-Gentile ecclesiological variegation is essential to understanding the early Church’s reading of Mark 7.

Résumé :
Are dietary religious laws an obstacle to community relations between membersof the Abrahamic faiths? The new edition of Pierre Birnbaum’s Le Peupleet Les Gros, under the title Genèse du Populisme (Hachette Pluriel: 2012) exploreshow eating pork in Paris and other cities can be read as a sign of identitycrisis in French society, as a way of excluding from the public space thosewho are different, in this case Jews and/or Muslims who follow dietary lawsforbidding its consumption. Similarly, in Foreigners and Their Food: ConstructingOtherness in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Law, the question ofcommunity, religious laws about food, and a thorough analysis of the relevantsacred texts is revealing. This book explores how the Abrahamic faiths conceptualize“us” and “them” through the rules related to food preparation bythose who are not “us” and the precise act of eating with “them.” Moreover,it echoes an important marker of how communities remain segregated at mealtime even though sharing food is seen as a familial, communal, and, most importantly,a sacred act.Foreigners and Their Food opens with Freidenreich’s personal strugglewith food and its significance in deconstructing boundaries between differenttraditions. The author, an ordained rabbi, readily admits to a bias of comparativeanalysis when interpreting the texts and laws; however, this admissionaccentuates and delineates a thorough analysis and rich interpretation that thestudy of religion is yearning for in intertexual analysis. The book begins with a discussion of “imagining otherness,” one thatalerts readers to the significance of food, its symbolic nature of inclusion/exclusion, and the absence of any analysis as to how it impacts so many religiousadherents who rely upon these laws but cannot critically reflect uponthem as markers of “us” and “them.” Freidenreich looks at what Leviticus,Deuteronomy, and similar traditional texts state, but he is clearly reaching formeanings that lie beyond the text. He points out as a general theme that “Absentfrom Biblical passages regarding these dietary laws, however, is any suggestionthat the norms enjoined upon Israelites stand in opposition tonon-Israelite practices” (p. 21) ...

Résumé :
Various essential discussions have been raised against Mark's parenthetical commentary in 7:19b, one of which is the discussion of eating from that statement. On the one hand, some take the text as a clear teaching of the Bible about the abolition of the food law in the Torah, as a result of which the law no longer binds both Jewish believers and Gentile believers. On the other hand, some consider it meaningless as the abolition of the food law in the Torah. Within this group, various meanings have been proposed. Historically, lexically, grammatically, and contextually it shows that Mark 7:19b is not a teaching of the abolition of the food law in the Torah, but a "guarantee" for the Gentile believers in Rome as Mark's gospel audience that there will be no unclean food for them because of contamination. or consumed with dirty hands (not washed), but the food is kept clean, so it cannot defile those who eat it. Therefore, Mark 7:19b will be of no significance to the reader if it is understood as teaching the abolition of the food law because they do not have binding laws on unclean and kosher food and need to be abolished, it is only given to the Jews. Therefore, for them, the food is kept clean. Even if the abolition of the food law in the Torah is done, it has nothing to do with Gentile believers.

Résumé :
Abstract Dietary supplements can provide the necessary nutrients for groups of people who need them, but their use comes with a few risks, such as excessive or unwarranted utilization, side effects, unwanted interactions, and the promotion of unhealthy behaviors or neglecting professional health care. This cross-sectional study analyzed 49 TV advertisements on three major news channels in Romania regarding their compliance with European and national laws concerning the advertisement of dietary supplements. A list of criteria was extracted from the current laws in Romania and was used to check the video promotional materials’ compliance systematically. Despite more than half of the commercials complying with the technical criteria, it was found that a concerning amount of advertisements targeted people with various or specific pathologies, while a third of the ads included non-compliant words or representations associated with pathologies and medical professionals or institutions. As a practical implication, the study suggests a need for more consistent and closer surveillance of dietary supplement commercials broadcasted in the Romanian media.

Résumé :
The nutraceutical industry has three main segments, including herbal/- natural products, dietary supplements and functional foods. The dietary supplements market is preliminarily driven by the paradigm shift towards preventive health management practices, amid rising healthcare costs and increasing burden of lifestyle diseases. Rise in healthcare expenditure, increased usage of nutraceuticals product as a substitute to prescription and OTC drugs and augmented demand for the nutritional diet are the major factors driving the global nutraceuticals market. Many individual laws were devised to govern its manufacturing and sale. However, increasing regulatory formalities from multiple agencies and laws, complicate the development, testing and marketing of these substances and hamper the growth of the nutraceutical market. Globally, the regulatory authorities are aware of the changing needs of consumers and proactively protect consumers by amending existing laws to accommodate changes. Market entry requirements of nutraceuticals, functional foods and supplements vary from country to country. The global regulatory guidelines aim at regulating various aspects of the nutraceutical and dietary supplements market, focusing on its manufacture, testing, labeling, sale and registration to assure safety and quality of the product. The major change that was introduced was the ban on marketing Nutraceuticals as medicinal products. This review has been performed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the global regulatory requirements with critical analysis of the Indian regulatory guidelines to explore the lacunae and suggest the need of further amendments in the form of recommendations that can be incorporated into regulatory body guidelines to make it more competitive for national & international trade.

The Karaites are a schismatic Jewish sect which severed itself from the Babylonian Jewish community in the eighth century of the Common Era. The Karaites contended that the Rabbinites, the adherents to the Rabbinic tradition of Judaism, had perverted the Torah (Pentateuch) by superseding it with the Talmud (the compendium of the oral tradition of Jewish law). As a result of this theological argument, the Karaites adopted a fundamentalist approach to scriptural exegesis. The two groups differed in such areas as: observance of religious laws, the order of prayers, dietary laws and determining the dates of Jewish holidays.

Abstract According to the standard interpretation of Mark 7:19b—“Thus Jesus declared all foods clean”—Jesus nullifies the dietary commandments of the Torah. A close examination, which draws together some important recent research on this text, reveals that this is a misreading. Instead, Mark maintains a consistent portrait of Jesus as one who is faithful to Torah, even to the dietary laws. This will be shown through a close study of the syntax, literary context, sociocultural situation, Matthean parallel, and early church reaction. This article offers a close look at the standard interpretation, followed by an evaluation of two alternate readings.

Résumé :
Building on the companion piece by Christine Parker and Hope Johnson on international instruments supporting holistic dietary guidelines, this article examines potential concerns raised by such guidelines under international trade law and international investment law. Drawing lessons from the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (‘WHO FCTC’) and its relevance to recent disputes in international economic law, this article examines the role of international instruments in supporting domestic dietary guidelines that could be challenged in the dispute settlement system of the World Trade Organization (‘WTO’) or under investor-state dispute settlement. The article includes an assessment of the potential impact of international economic laws on holistic dietary guidelines and related regulatory interventions, as well as a discussion of how a WHO treaty on healthy and sustainable diets could influence the interpretation and application of key trade and investment provisions. The article concludes that holistic dietary guidelines can be implemented in a manner consistent with international economic law, at least if local products are not prioritised.

SummaryReligious laws do not usually forbid the use of psychotropic medication, but many do forbid the consumption of animal-based derivatives of bovine and/or porcine origin (e.g. gelatin and stearic acid) such as are found in many medications. Demonstrating awareness of this, combined with a genuine concern about how it affects the patient, may strengthen the doctor—patient relationship and avoid non-adherence. In this article, we outline dietary requirements of key religions and belief systems that may have a bearing when prescribing medication containing animal-based ingredients. We identify common psychotropics that contain animal-based derivatives and suggest alternative prescribing options and approaches to dealing with sensitive ethical issues.

We conclude that Deut. 14.3–21 may be one of the earliest specimens of Rewritten Scripture.

Peter’s vision in Acts 10 ostensibly concerns dietary laws but is interpreted within the narrative as a revelation of God’s mercy towards the Gentiles, culminating in the baptism of Cornelius’ household. How this vision pertains to the immediately following events has remained a problem in scholarship on Acts. This article argues that the vision depends on earlier apocalyptic Jewish depictions of various nations as animals (and empires as hybrid beasts) and allegorical explanations of the food laws familiar in the Second Temple period in which the forbidden animals are understood as representing those peoples with whom Israel must not mix. What seems on the surface to refer to food is therefore naturally understood within this genre as a reference to nations and peoples. Acts 10 thus makes use of standard Jewish apocalyptic tropes familiar to its audience but less familiar to modern readers.

Résumé :
Among the epistles of Paul, the book of Galatians along with Romans, are considered by many readers as theologically difficult. Especially in his indiscriminate use of the word law. In Galatians 3 alone, the term law has been used more than ten times. One of the issues in this particular letter, is, when Paul claims that “the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ” (Gal 3:24 NKJV). The Old Testament alone has 600 laws. The questions that emerged: first, which law − natural, ceremonial, moral, civil, dietary and health, social, purity − serve as the tutor of the Christians to Christ? Second, the word tutor from Greek paidagogos, in what sense does the lawbecome the tutor to Christ? The result of the study showed that the laws are the Christians’ tutorto Christ. All the ceremonial laws, though temporary in its duration, contained in ordinances in all His types and sacrifices; and the moral law, as enduring, showed the absolute need of a Redeemer served as tutor to Christ. The tutor functions as the guardian, trainer, supervisor, protector, in-charge, trustworthy slave, custodian and disciplinarian conduct the pupil to the Christ.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate if religious food laws can provide answers to current issues with the food systems. Design/methodology/approach – This paper provides a discussion of the dietary and food system principles from a Judaism, Christianity and Islamic perspective for the design of a more sustainable and healthy food system. Findings – The commercialisation of the natural resources, industrial food production approach and consumerism is endangering the food security, health and environment. Current industry practices are not sustainable and do not comply with Jewish, Christian and Islamic scriptures. Kosher, Christian and halal food laws share common principles in prohibition of certain animals (like pig), prohibition of blood, role of fasting and animal welfare. As a change in the diet is the solution, there is a key role for the food industry to comply and for religious leaders to radically reduce meat consumption and food waste of its followers. Research limitations/implications – This viewpoint paper shows that religious food laws provide answers to current problems with the industrialised food production approach and consumerism. Practical implications – New food industry directives should convert meat-based to plant-based ingredients and additives; replace porcine by bovine sources; and emphasise on animal welfare to better serve the Jewish, Christian and Muslim consumer. Religious logos (kosher and halal) should incorporate nutrient profiling through a traffic light system to promote healthy food choice. Originality/value – Religious food laws are important for a big part of the world population (Jews, Christians and Muslims), which share many common principles. This study contributes to a better understanding of the commonalities and differences in these religious food laws.

AbstractObjectiveThe Hmong are a growing population of South-East Asian immigrants with increasing rates of obesity and diabetes, yet little is known about their dietary consumption patterns. The present study aimed to investigate the dietary intake of Hmong children and whether acculturation and/or time lived in the USA influences dietary intake, BMI and nutritional status.DesignTwo 24 h dietary recalls were collected on non-consecutive days using the multiple-pass interviewing method and were averaged. Heights and weights were measured, from which BMI was calculated. An acculturation score was computed.SettingSchools, churches, Hmong organizations, and community centres.SubjectsThree hundred and thirty-five Hmong children aged 9–18 years from Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA.ResultsApproximately half of our participants were either overweight or obese. US-born children were significantly heavier, taller, had a higher BMI, and in general consumed more energy, saturated fat and Na than those who were born in Thailand/Laos and were living in the USA for <5 years. Children who were more acculturated to US norms including language use, social connections and dietary habits had higher BMI-for-age and consumed significantly more saturated fat, trans fatty acids, Na and Ca compared with their less acculturated counterparts.ConclusionsDiets of most Hmong children appear below the recommendations for fibre, vitamins A, D and E, Ca, P, Mg and K, and are higher in fats, sugars and Na. Living in an obesogenic US environment is a probable reason for poor dietary quality of Hmong and may be a contributing factor to the rising rates of obesity and diabetes in this population.

Barnabas 10 offers an allegorical discussion ofkashrut. The writer addresses dietary laws in two groups of three: prohibitions against the eating of pig, vulture and eel, followed by prohibitions against eating hare, hyena and weasel. In each case, the allegorical interpretation construes diet as comportment (e.g. one should not behave like a pig, vulture etc.). Concerning the hare, readers are admonished not to emulate its corruption of children – a behaviour linked to its annual acquisition of an anus. Parallel allegorical interpretations of the Jewish food laws can be found in the Letter of Aristeas and Philo,De specialibus legibus4 and similar quasi-scientific observations about animals occur in texts ranging from the rabbis to Physiologus. However, the rabbit poses a particular problem since no known precedent exists for either its behaviour or its physiology. The present investigation thus focuses on the rabbit, attempting to reconstruct the literary and historical background for its unusual characterisation.

AbstractAs with members of other cultural and religious groups, patients within the Orthodox Jewish community present with their own distinct clinical psychiatric issues related to their unique beliefs and practices. This article reviews the existing literature and anecdotal experience on the psychopharmacologic assessment and treatment of Orthodox Jewish patients. Specific aspects examined include this group's perceived intense stigma in receiving treatment, the priority this community places on cognitive functioning, and how the influence of Jewish laws on marriage and sexual practices impacts one's treatment decisions. The relevance of Jewish dietary laws, the Sabbath, and the community's interest in alternative treatments are also discussed. The limited ethno-psychopharmacology research related to Orthodox Jewish psychiatric patients is reviewed. We conclude that understanding issues such as these is critical if one is going to work within this cultural system in order to successfully address their mental health issues. However, the dearth of controlled research in this community needs to be addressed to provide more effective treatment.

Résumé :
The production performance of cattle fed forage-based diets, particularly conserved forages, is poor and unpredictable. It has been shown that protein deposition is limiting in silage-fed cattle (Gill et al., 1987). It has also frequently been reported that the ratio of carcass fat:protein in silage-fed cattle is high (Baker, Young & Laws, 1992). There are few comparative dietary studies on whole-body fat metabolism in cattle. It was therefore the aim of this study to measure some of the parameters of whole-body fat metabolism in cattle fed forage-based diets and thus to determine if the high fat:protein ratio of silage-fed cattle is due to altered rates of whole-body fat metabolism. It was also our aim to determine whether the well-documented effects of β-agonists on fat metabolism are dependent on dietary status.

Résumé :
Epidemiological studies have suggested that dietary fibre lowers the risk of colorectal cancer, which may be due to increased butyrate production from colonic fermentation of a type of fibre, resistant starch (RS). The present study investigated the effects of dietary RS and butyrylated RS on the faecal microbiota of rats treated with azoxymethane. A total of four groups of nine rats were fed diets containing either standard maize starch (low-amylose maize starch (LAMS), low RS), LAMS with 3 % tributyrin (LAMST), cooked 10 % high-amylose maize starch (HAMS, high RS) or cooked 10 % butyrylated HAMS (HAMSB). Faecal samples were examined by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of PCR-amplified 16S rRNA gene fragments. Multivariate analysis demonstrated no differences between faecal microbiota before treatment but revealed differences in DGGE patterns between diet groups, with the exception of the two low-RS groups (LAMS and LAMST). Subsequent analysis identified eleven DGGE bands contributing significantly to the differentiation between diets. These phylotypes belonged to Clostridiales (five),Lactobacillus(one) and Bacteroidetes (five) lineages. Rats fed HAMS had increased concentration of propionate in their distal colonic digesta and developed faecal populations containingRuminococcus bromii-like bacteria. HAMSB increased propionate and butyrate concentrations in distal colonic digesta and was associated with the appearance of two non-butyrate-producing bacteria,Lactobacillus gasseriandParabacteroides distasonis. In conclusion, supplementation with specific dietary RS leads to changes in faecal microbiota profiles that may be associated with improved bowel health.

Résumé :
Abstract Food-related laws and regulations have existed since ancient times. Egyptian scrolls prescribed the labeling needed for certain foods. In ancient Athens, beer and wines were inspected for purity and soundness, and the Romans had a well-organized state food control system to protect consumers from fraud or bad produce. In Europe during the Middle Ages, individual countries passed laws concerning the quality and safety of eggs, sausages, cheese, beer, wine, and bread; some of these laws still exist today. But more modern dietary guidelines and food regulations have their origins in the latter half of the 19th century when the first general food laws were adopted and basic food control systems were implemented to monitor compliance. Around this time, science and food chemistry began to provide the tools to determine “purity” of food based primarily on chemical composition and to determine whether it had been adulterated in any way. Since the key chemical components of mammalian milk were first understood, infant formulas have steadily advanced in complexity as manufacturers attempt to close the compositional gap with human breast milk. To verify these compositional innovations and ensure product quality and safety, infant formula has become one of the most regulated foods in the world. The present paper examines the historical development of nutritional alternatives to breastfeeding, focusing on efforts undertaken to ensure the quality and safety from antiquity to present day. The impact of commercial infant formulas on global regulations is addressed, along with the resulting need for harmonized, fit-for-purpose, voluntary consensus standard methods.

Résumé :
One of the central tenets in obesity prevention and management is caloric restriction. This perspective presents salient features of how calories and energy balance matter, also called the “calories in, calories out” paradigm. Determinants of energy balance and relationships to dietary macronutrient content are reviewed. The rationale and features of the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis postulate that carbohydrate restriction confers a metabolic advantage. According to this model, a large amount of fat intake is enabled without weight gain. Evidence concerning this possibility is detailed. The relationship and application of the laws of thermodynamics are then clarified with current primary research. Strong data indicate that energy balance is not materially changed during isocaloric substitution of dietary fats for carbohydrates. Results from a number of sources refute both the theory and effectiveness of the carbohydrate-insulin hypothesis. Instead, risk for obesity is primarily determined by total calorie intake.

Résumé :
Nurses involved in the care of people having a low anterior resection for rectal cancer need to recognise the potential consequences of cancer treatment. Treatment for rectal cancers can lead to several different consequences, including bowel dysfunction. Bowel changes are collectively termed low anterior resection syndrome (LARS). The nurse can assist in the care of patients with LARS by recognising what LARS is and how it might affect patients. Providing information about LARS can enable patients the opportunity to set realistic expectations of bowel function after stoma reversal. Nursing advice can include basic information on bowel-management strategies, such as dietary manipulation and the use of loperamide. If these initial management strategies are ineffective, there are other interventions that will require onward referral, such as to a biofeedback nurse. Improving bowel symptoms can improve quality of life for patients after rectal cancer treatment.

Résumé :
Background: Thiamin deficiency is a major public health concern in several low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)—current attention to the problem is lacking. Aim: This review discusses prevalence of thiamin insufficiency and thiamin-deficiency disorders (TDDs) in LMICs, outlines programmatic experience with thiamin interventions, and offers recommendations to improve public-health and research attention to thiamin in LMICs. Discussion: Thiamin insufficiency, i.e. low-blood-thiamin status, is endemic among several Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia (70–100% of infants and 27–100% of reproductive-age women); Laos (13% of hospitalized infants); Thailand (16–25% of children and 30% of elderly adults). Thiamin deficiency accounts for up to 45% of under-5 deaths in Cambodia, 34% of infant deaths in Laos, and 17% of infant deaths in Myanmar. Deficiency also exists in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, but these instances have typically been isolated. Exclusively breastfed infants of thiamin-deficient mothers are at highest risk for TDD and related death. Intervention strategies that have been employed to combat thiamin deficiency include food processing, fortification, supplementation, dietary diversification, and dietary behaviors, all of which have shown varying levels of effectiveness. Conclusions: We recommend universal thiamin-fortification of context-specific staple-foods in LMICs as a promising solution, as well as thiamin supplementation, particularly for pregnant and lactating women. Food processing regulations, dietary diversification, and modification of dietary behaviors to increase consumption of thiamin-rich foods may provide benefits in some circumstances, especially in countries without universal fortification programs or in populations dependent on food aid.

Résumé :
Background: In developing countries, the minimum dietary diversity (MDD) measure of dietary quality is widely used to define the dietary habits of infants between the ages of 6 and 23 months. However, the particular situation in Bangladesh shows that just 34% of kids have access to a food that complies with the bare minimum acceptable norms. The main aim of this study was to predict the determinants of minimum dietary diversity (MDD) among Bangladeshi children. Methods: This study was based on data from the Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (2017-2018 BDHS). Statistical analysis involving a χ2 test alongside machine learning (ML) algorithms was employed to identify the factors associated with MDD and to predict the factors influencing MDD outcomes within the context of Bangladesh. Results: The random forest (accuracy =0.854, specificity =0.639, sensitivity =0.927, precision =0.883, F1-score = 0.905, area under the curve: AUC = 0.711) show the best performance than others machine learning model. The random forest model shows the “division”, “mother age”, “wealth index”, “partner education”, “total number of children” and “mother education” play an important role to predict the determinants of MDD in Bangladesh. Conclusions: To enhance newborn and young child feeding practices, it is strongly advised to boost women’s empowerment and mother’s education. To protect the health of infants, government healthcare authorities should implement public education programs and awareness campaigns in addition to enforcing the appropriate laws and regulations.

Résumé :
Abstract The Asian golden cat (Catopuma temminckii) occurs in small, declining, and highly fragmented populations throughout Southeast Asia, whereas the smaller leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) is common and widespread. In contrast to leopard cats, little is known about the ecology of Asian golden cats, and resource partitioning between these species has not been studied. We used DNA-confirmed scats, camera-trap data, and prey surveys, to determine the diet, prey selection, and activity, of Asian golden cats and leopard cats in a protected area in northern Laos. The two felids had different diets: Asian golden cats consumed mostly ungulates (35% biomass consumed), murid rodents (23%), and carnivores (15%), whereas leopard cats consumed mostly murid rodents (79%). Asian golden cats were not random in their consumption of ungulates, because muntjac (Muntiacus spp.) were selectively consumed over larger ungulates, indicating muntjac were preyed upon rather than scavenged. Dietary overlap between the two felid species was moderate (R0 = 0.60), and the dietary niche breadth of Asian golden cats (B = 8.44) was nearly twice as high as that of leopard cats (4.54). The mean (± SD) scat diameter was greater for Asian golden cats (2.1 ± 0.3 cm) than leopard cats (1.8 ± 0.2 cm), although diameters of leopard cat scats were considerably larger than previously assumed for this species. The felid species differed in their activity patterns, because Asian golden cats were diurnal, whereas leopard cats were nocturnal, although they did not differ in their use of elevation, suggesting there was no habitat segregation. Overall, leopard cats appeared to coexist with Asian golden cats, a potential predator and competitor, by exhibiting dietary and temporal partitioning. Our results showed that muntjac were important prey of Asian golden cats, suggesting the management of muntjac might be important for conserving populations of Asian golden cats.

Résumé :
AbstractCanon law scholarship flourished in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, and its practitioners left a remarkable paper trail. Surviving documents capture the intellectual evolution that occurred during this formative period and offer historians a rare opportunity to trace legal development in premodern times. This article examines the evolution of laws regulating the sharing of meals with non-Christians, with particular attention to the ways in which medieval canonists conceptualized foreigners. These canonists struggle to fit Islam into traditional legal categories, concluding that Muslims are "judaizing pagans" on account of their dietary practices. This outcome, and its implications for the way canonists understood not only commensality with Muslims but also with Jews and pagans, reflects the degree to which medieval scholars of canon law were both unfamiliar with other religious traditions and uninterested in acquiring such knowledge. The ideas of these scholars about non-Christians reflect their detatchment from realia and their commitment, as participants in the canon law tradition, to the conservation of existing paradigms, laws, and interpretations. This case study thus sheds light both on medieval Christian conceptions of foreigners and on the ways in which great works of premodern law developed.

Introduction:Nutraceuticals although is a widely accepted term and now well understood, there exists several nomenclature and definitions across the countries. The present article discussed the progression of Indian food product regulations over the years, mainly emphasizing on regulations of nutraceuticals and dietary supplements.Regulatory Progression in India:The regulatory structure of nutraceuticals in India has evolved after the establishment of Food Safety and Standard act in 2006, which brought together preexisting eight laws to one single law regulated by Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). After the introduction of this act, the regulatory framework of food products progressed year by year with continuous amendments to this Act. The major milestone in the field of nutraceuticals was in 2016 with the introduction of regulations of functional food and nutraceuticals. Under these regulations, various guidelines were laid down for nutraceuticals in terms of their safety standards, health claims along with permissible limits of active ingredients and excipients for the safe and effective use. Conclusion:India has progressed in the development of a strong regulatory framework for nutraceuticals; however, to effectively implement these guidelines and for ensuring the safe and nutritious food, a robust system and a better-coordinated actions are required.

The world Semitic religions like Judaism, Christianity and Islam have given comprehensive regulations and code of life. Therefore; there has been a complete system and directions about “ḥalal” and “ḥaram” (kosher non-kosher) means legal and illegal (treif’ in Jewish law). As Islam gives clear cut directives in beliefs, worships, ethics, economy and ways of life to guide the men in life; similarly the Judaism has also given clear regulations in these fields to guide its followers. Islam has taught its followers to eat and drink ‘ḥalal’ (Tayyib), so Judaism has also stressed on eating only ‘kosher’ (food that can be consumed according to Jewish law). For example in animals; meat of cow, bull, sheep and goat etc are legitimizing for eating in both the religions. Similarly the meat of pig is not allowed for men. Many things are similar in both these religions regarding dietary law. This article describes about ‘ḥalal’ and ‘kosher’ things in detail and tells what the similarities and dissimilarities regarding dietary laws are found in their religious literatures.
