Autism is disorder experienced since the time of birth or infancy. This disorder is developmental disorder of the nervous system in person. People with autism generally have difficulty with social, motor, sensory, and cognitive. One of autism treatment is therapy. Autism treatment methods are most commonly used to date are Applied Behavior Analisyst method (ABA). Now, game concept application is one way to create enthusiasm for autism therapy, therefore this research will discuss about design of autism therapy game on four areas that become problem for people with autism are social, motor, sensory, and cognitive. The design of the therapy game application will be applied to autism therapy system that implements the method ABA, that is Ahada system. The approach used in the game design process of therapy in this study is Game Design Document by Ernest Adams. This study resulted conclusion that the concept of gaming on Ahada autism therapy system can be implemented by using Game Design Document. This approach is expressed as good approach to use in game design process. In addition, this study also stated that the application of the Natural User Interface concept can be integrated with the system to meet the needs motor therapy.

School of Therapy for Autistic Children is an educational institution ranging from kindergarten (TK), elementary school (SD), junior high school (SMP), and senior high school (SMA) in Jakarta which is devoted to Children with Autism. The background underlying this design is because educational facilities for children with autism are classified as inadequate and have not been able to meet all the educational needs for sufferers so that they can develop their talents and potential, and obtain education that is equivalent to normal children their age. In fact, these children are considered to have no talent and potential that can be developed. Most of the general public has a negative perspective on children with autism. As a result, there are so many children with autism who have talents and potentials that, if developed, can far exceed what normal children have in general. In planning and designing this Special School, it will be interpreted through the concepts of architectural and behavioral psychology. Keywords: Autism, Psychology of Architecture, Jakarta.

Buildings and people are related. Human behavior forms architecture, but architecture can also shape human behavior. Especially for health facilities such as hospitals and also autism service centers have special attention for their users. Autism itself is a concern even though it cannot be cured, autism can be trained so that they can adapt to the surrounding environment. Special attention can be supported from the shape, circulation, and color for children with autism. These elements will help them during the therapy process and also play to know their environment. Therefore, the building that is designed must be able to adapt to the behavior of autistic children. The research method used is descriptive analysis which can describe, describe, and explain the principles of the behavior setting approach of behavioral architecture. Aims to be the basis of knowledge on how an autistic center can be said to be adaptive to autistic patients because of its nature as a therapy center that must support every element that can create an effectiveness in therapy. Identification is done through a case study of the Autism Center in Bontang with descriptive analysis method. The aim of this research is to produce a summary of patterns of behavior setting that can be applied to the design of the Autism Center facility in Bontang. Architecture, as a science, deals with the manipulation of the physical environment to facilitate certain functions and elicit intended behavior. This environment is comprised primarily of sensory elements- textures, colors, patterns, acoustics etc. In accordance to the sensory definition of autism, these elements play an important role in autistic behavior and their cognition and integration are at the core of the disorder. This definition is the basis of the Autism ASPECTSS™ Design Index as discussed here. The objective of this paper is to illustrate the use of this index and its seven principles- Acoustics, Spatial sequencing, Escape, Compartmentalization, Transition spaces, Sensory zoning and Safety- as a design development tool. The paper summarizes the impact of these principles on the development of spatial design criteria for the Advance Center for Special Needs in Qattameya, Cairo, designed by Progressive Architects, and presents a possible prototype for schools for autism which would follow the ASPECTSS™ principles.

Résumé :
Children with autism need appropriate educational toys to assist rehabilitation training, so as to inhibit the development of autism. Toys and related treatments for children with autism can alleviate some of the deficits of children with autism. By using toys as stimuli and various sensations obtained by children with autism or toys as a result of reinforcement, the improvement of certain capabilities expected by related therapies can be achieved through the process of stimulation and reinforcement. However, in the process of pediatrics toy development, it is difficult for toy designers to assess whether the purpose of stimulation and reinforcement can be achieved. There are many factors that affect the design of rehabilitation toys. The industry has not formed a unified design evaluation standard, and the effects of product rehabilitation training are uneven. A method based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network was proposed in this research to study the rehabilitation design and evaluation of rehabilitation toys for children with autism. Firstly, according to the three demand indicators for the evaluation of rehabilitation training for children with autism, that is, “useful, educational, and entertaining,” the analytic network process (ANP) method was chosen as the weighting method for determining each indicator in the overall evaluation. The RBF neural network rehabilitation model for children with autism was designed and evaluated. The maximum error of the model was less than 10%. The evaluation method was objective and reasonable, so as to provide a reference for the more accurate design evaluation, purchase, and development of rehabilitation toys for children with autism.

Résumé :
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate a teaching model involving an experimental studio project for first-year interior architecture university students. Design/methodology/approach Content, process, teaching style and feedback are examined in a project, run over five years, concerning transitioning between environments for people with autism in an attempt to advance design of autism schools. Research methodology, teaching model, outcomes and group dynamics are critiqued. Findings Feedback from experienced autism-specific teachers across eight case study schools raise recurring issues framing a series of design problems navigated by students. The teaching model enhances student exploration of how sensory processing difficulties, through spatial transitioning strategies, might be approached, whilst furthering their specialist knowledge as future designers of inclusive spaces. Research limitations/implications Each transitioning platform requires deeper research to form a realistic interior typology. A further project to install and evaluate specific “transitioning insertions” into circulation spaces of an autism school is proposed for future research. Practical implications The identification of this teaching model illustrates how to embed design for autism in the university curriculum. Social implications The project brief helps address the National Autistic Society’s public autism awareness campaign “Too Much Information” highlighting anxieties that “unexpected change” causes. Effective design of transitioning spaces can help people with autism to cope with their environment, reducing behaviours and improving learning. Originality/value The creation of the “Co-specialist ASD-educator model” will be of value to universities. “Ten Spatial Transitioning Platforms” were uncovered relating to Transitions. This will be of importance to autism researchers and eventually design practitioners.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon on the opportunities and challenges of engaging with a wide variety of stakeholders during the design, development and evaluation of innovative technologies for people with autism. Autism is defined in part by difficulties in social communication and interaction, and is therefore particularly pertinent when considering the opportunities and challenges of participatory design (PD). Design/methodology/approach – A series of presentations from key researchers and practitioners are reviewed, highlighting contemporary issues about how technologies have been designed to improve educational support using a range of methods and processes for stakeholder involvement. Findings – Involvement per se does not constitute engagement as a design partner. The interdisciplinary nature of PD, combined with the viewpoints of communities beyond academia, need to be integrated in a manner that allows for different perspectives and voices, and for the “trace” of the contribution to be evidenced. The level of evidence required for demonstrating effective support needs to be considered in terms of both the outcomes of projects and the processes for involving stakeholders in PD. Originality/value – This paper offers an up-to-date insight from lead researchers into key debates about the benefits and challenges of PD with autistic people and the broader autism community. Its value lies in raising questions about, and discussing evidence that challenges, some of the assumptions that underpin both PD processes and the needs of the autistic community.

Résumé :
The development of digital supports for people with autism has increased considerably in recent years. Technology designers and developers have interpreted the needs and learning styles of people with autism in different ways. As a result, there are generic, non-specific or heterogeneous guidelines for the design and development of technology for people with autism. This study aims to identify and describe the recommended elements to support graphical user interface design for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), considering the stakeholders’ perspective, engaged in a computer application development. A qualitative, longitudinal, multicentre study was carried out. A sample of 39 participants belonging to four groups of stakeholders participated: children with autism, family members, professionals with experience in the intervention with children with autism, and professionals with expertise in the design and development of assistive technology. The techniques used to formalise the collection of information from participants were semi-structured interviews and observation. MAXQDA 2020 software (Verbi Software, Berlin, Germany) was used to analyse the data. The result is a guide with suggestions to support an interface design that emerges from the stakeholder perspectives. This study provides useful information to offer alternatives for children with ASD and facilitate the understanding of daily life.

Résumé :
Autism is not a disease, but rather a spectrum disorder in the brain that causes autistic people cannot be completely cured. The best thing that can be done is to provide appropriate care to help people with autism adjust to their conditions, both therapeutically and educatively. Adequate facilities are urgently needed to develop and explore the potential that exists in every autistic person. The service facilities available at this time are still not good enough in terms of safety and comfort, and have not been able to meet the needs of people with autism to support their personal development activities. So that it is felt necessary to have a special Care Center for people with autism who are able to be a good and appropriate means of therapy and learning for people with autism to develop their abilities. This was realized by using the Human Centered Design (HCD) method and the concept of applying the principles of The Autism ASPECTSS Design Index to create a good and appropriate Autism Care Center, and in accordance with the characteristics and needs of people with autism.

Résumé :
(1) Background: Augmented reality is no less popular than virtual reality. This technology has begun to be used in education fields, one of which is special education. Merging the real and virtual worlds is the advantage of augmented reality. However, it needs special attention in making software for children with special needs, such as children with autism. This paper presents an application prototype by paying attention to the characteristics of autistic individuals according to the Autism Guide, that has existed in previous studies. (2) Method: The method used in the development of this prototype is the Linear Sequential Model. Application development is made using Unity3D, Vuforia, and Adobe Illustrator by considering accessibility and other conveniences for developers. (3) Results: The prototype was developed with reference to the Autism Guide, then validated by media experts and autistic experts with the results of the assessment obtaining a score of 87.3/100 which is in the “Very Good” category and is suitable for use. (4) Conclusions: The development of a prototype that refers to the characteristics of children with autism needs to be considered so that what will be conveyed can be easily accepted.

Résumé :
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore how a people-centred, design-led approach to the different needs and aspirations of adults with autism could help inform the design of space, objects and activities for individuals in their own homes to enhance everyday life experiences. There are dozens of studies that have reported the health benefits associated with good design and the Kingwood Trust set out to research what that might mean for the adults with autism it supports. Design/methodology/approach – The paper describes three projects: Housing Design, Garden Design and Exploring Sensory Preferences whose design interventions were realised through a process of design ethnography, to include and work with the people that Kingwood support who have limited verbal speech and learning disabilities. Participatory observation, co-design workshops, interviews, visual probes and mapping tools were created to gather insights about how a person perceives and engages with the physical environment, with a particular focus on their sensory sensitivities and special interests. Findings – The outcome of the project is a holistic, design-led approach to identifying the sensory preferences and special interests of adults with autism to inform the design of residential accommodation. A second project will be published at a later date, which will test and evaluate the effectiveness of the design interventions described in this paper as part of a PhD by practice supported by Kingwood Trust. Originality/value – Autistic adults with limited verbal speech and additional learning disabilities, are often excluded from design research. This paper bridges this gap by selecting and adapting design methods that invite the people that Kingwood support to be active participants within the design process. The revised DSM-5 is an important milestone that puts the sensory environment back onto the roadmap within autism research, however the relationship between people with autism and the physical environment is a relatively under-researched area. This paper bridges this gap in research and illustrates how an autistic person's interaction and reaction to their home environment, can create understanding, tangible insights and clues to inform the design and adaptation of environments to reduce triggers of anxiety, making them more comfortable, enjoyable and meaningful for that person.

Résumé :
Purpose: The objective was twofold: 1) summarize research-informed environmental characteristics into Mostafa’s seven ASPECTSS™ criteria for people who are aging, and for children who have autism, and 2) apply those characteristics within the context of a Green House planned intergenerational facility providing support to adult child with autism, and their parent(s). Background: The rate of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnoses is increasing, making it important to design spaces for people with ASD. Approximately 85% of children with ASD live with their parents (Mykyta, 2012). Ahrentzen & Steele (2010) identified the need to develop housing options for people with ASD. Method: Design considerations from a literature review were organized into two tables: 1) aging adults and 2) people who have ASD. Shared characteristics were placed into a third table using Mostafa’s seven ASPECTSS™ criteria, and then applied to the intergenerational facility plan to demonstrate the effectiveness of intentional planning by caregivers and the design community. Results: When integrating Mostafa’s ASPECTSS™ framework, and the intergenerational Green House Model, the application of design choices within housing demonstrates that appropriately designed space can positively impact persons and families with autism, regardless of age. Conclusion: Findings show numerous overlapping design criteria for people with autism and aging adults that can lead to effective environmental solutions for both. This facility type has the potential to minimize family fracture since aging parents are supported in their ability to care for their child with autism.
