Résumé :
In order to assess the susceptibility of the quantum key distribution (QKD) systems to the hacking attack including simultaneous and frequent system self-decalibrations, we analyze the stability of the QKD transmission organized in two commercially available systems. The first one employs non-entangled photons as flying qubits in the dark quantum channel for communication whereas the second one utilizes the entangled photon pairs to secretly share the cryptographic key. Applying standard methods of the statistical data analysis to the characteristic indicators of the quality of the QKD communication (the raw key exchange rate [RKER] and the quantum bit error rate [QBER]), we have estimated the pace of the self-decalibration of both systems and the repeatability rate in the case of controlled worsening of the dark channel quality.

Résumé :
Camera systems in autonomous vehicles are subject to various sources of anticipated and unanticipated mechanical stress (vibration, rough handling, collisions) in real-world conditions. Even moderate changes in camera geometry due to mechanical stress decalibrate multi-camera systems and corrupt downstream applications like depth perception. We propose an on-the-fly stereo recalibration method applicable in real-world autonomous vehicles. The method is comprised of two parts. First, in optimization step, external camera parameters are optimized with the goal to maximise the amount of recovered depth pixels. In the second step, external sensor is used to adjust the scaling of the optimized camera model. The method is lightweight and fast enough to run in parallel with stereo estimation, thus allowing an on-the-fly recalibration. Our extensive experimental analysis shows that our method achieves stereo reconstruction better or on par with manual calibration. If our method is used on a sequence of images, the quality of calibration can be improved even further.

Résumé :
Abstract Optical methods for deformation diagnostics and surface shape measurement are often used in scientific research and industry. Most of these methods are based on the triangulation of a set of two-dimensional points from different images corresponding to the three-dimensional points of an object in space. Triangulation is based on the stereo system calibration parameters, which are determined before the experiment. Measurements during conditions with increased vibration loads can lead to a change in the relative position of the cameras of the stereo system (decalibration). This leads to a change in the actual calibration parameters and an increase in the measurement error. This work aims to solve the problem of increasing the measurement accuracy of the photogrammetric method in the case of high vibration loads. For this, it is proposed to use an optimization algorithm for calibration parameters to minimize the reprojection error of three-dimensional points calculated using triangulation. The paper presents the results of a computer simulation of decalibration of a video camera stereo system, an algorithm for optimizing the external parameters of a stereo system, and an assessment of its performance.

Résumé :
ABSTRACTChildren’s humorous play is a cultural activity with its own particular aesthetic – an aesthetic in which highly creative, incongruent, and unexpected speech and action are valorized, appreciated, and rewarded. Drawing on Bauman’s concept of calibration, the adjustments by which speakers align their intertextual utterances to new contexts and purposes, this paper argues that an aesthetic of decalibration is at work in children’s metalinguistic and metapragmatic language play. Children capitalize upon linguistic and pragmatic ambiguity to breach expectations, drawing on complex linguistic, contextual and pragmatic knowledge to create maximally humorous language play performances. Through close analysis of videotaped interactions from a larger ethnographic, discourse analytic study of northern Thai children’s everyday lives, this article examines how younger children are socialized into these practices of language play through peripheral participation in multi-age play groups, showing that the repetitive poetic structure and predictability of the play genres constitute jumping-off and breaking-in points for language play. Résumé :
In this article, we propose a method for automatic calibration of a LiDAR–camera system, which can be used in autonomous cars. This approach does not require any calibration pattern, as calibration is only based on real traffic scenes observed by sensors; the results of camera image segmentation are compared with scanning LiDAR depth data. The proposed algorithm superimposes the edges of objects segmented by the Mask-RCNN network with depth discontinuities. The method can run in the background during driving, and it can automatically detect decalibration and correct corresponding rotation matrices in an online and near real-time mode. Experiments on the KITTI dataset demonstrated that, for input data of moderate quality, the algorithm could calculate and correct rotation matrices with an average accuracy of 0.23°.

Résumé :
The article focuses on J.H. Prynne’s 2003 volume Biting the Air. I seek to explore the modes of reconstitution of language that Prynne shows to be enslaved in the various discourses of modernity. The idea of enslaving discourse is shown to be an unacknowledged aspect of modernity on the basis of Don DeLillo’s Cosmopolis and Zbigniew Herbert’s “Report from the Besieged City”, both of which may be seen as illustrations of the hegemony of linguistic enslavement that Prynne struggles against in his poetry. Despite the difference of socio-linguistic and temporal context, both DeLillo and Herbert show that language, as Prynne implies in the ending of Biting the Air, is a “calibrated” mechanism of oppression that, unbeknownst to most people, keeps man fixed within the field of binary rhetoric. In response to that situation, Prynne’s poem is demonstrated to refashion the idiom by emphasizing the multiple process of meaning creation. It is in such decalibration of language that a path may be located beyond the reified linguistic praxis.

Résumé :
Target Tracking (TT) is a fundamental application of wireless sensor networks. TT based on received signal strength indication (RSSI) is by far the cheapest and simplest approach, but suffers from a low stability and precision owing to multiple paths, occlusions, and decalibration effects. To address this problem, we propose an innovative TT algorithm, known as the SVM+KF method, which combines the support vector machine (SVM) and an improved Kalman filter (KF). We first use the SVM to obtain an initial estimate of the target’s position based on the RSSI. This enhances the ability of our algorithm to process nonlinear data. We then apply an improved KF to modify this estimated position. Our improved KF adds the threshold value of the innovation update in the traditional KF. This value changes dynamically according to the target speed and network parameters to ensure the stability of the results. Simulations and real experiments in different scenarios demonstrate that our algorithm provides a superior tracking accuracy and stability compared to similar algorithms.

Résumé :
This work addressed the problem of miscalibration or decalibration of mobile stereo/bi-monocular camera setups. We especially focused on the context of autonomous vehicles. In real-world conditions, any optical system is subject to various mechanical stresses, caused by vibration, rough handling, collisions, or even thermal expansion. Such mechanical stresses change the stereo pair geometry, and as a consequence, the pre-calculated epipolar geometry or any geometric-based approach is no longer valid. The standard method, which consists of estimating the calibration online, fails in such harsh conditions. The proposed method was based on a robust linearly constrained state estimation technique able to mitigate the model mismatch without estimating the model parameters. Therefore, our solution was able to mitigate the errors with negligible use of additional computing resources. We propose to use a linearly constrained extended Kalman filter for a stereo-based visual odometry or simultaneous localization and mapping approach. Simulations confirmed that the method kept the system (and objects of the map) localized in real-time even with huge miscalibration errors and parameter variations. The results confirmed that the method was robust to a miscalibration of all the extrinsic calibration parameters even when the standard online calibration procedure failed.

Résumé :
Abstract The presented paper shows the results of the laboratory study on the relation between chosen malfunctions of a fuel injector and composition of exhaust gas from the marine engine. The object of research is a marine 3-cylinder, four-stroke, direct injection diesel engine with an intercooler system. The engine was loaded with a generator and supercharged. The generator was electrically connected to the water resistance. The engine operated with a load between 50 kW and 250 kW at a constant speed. The engine load and speed, parameters of the turbocharger, systems of cooling, fuelling, lubricating and air exchange, were measured. Fuel injection and combustion pressures in all cylinders of the engine were also recorded. Exhaust gas composition was recorded by using a electrochemical gas analyzer. Air pressure, temperature and humidity were also recorded. Emission characteristics of the engine were calculated according to ISO 8178 standard regulations. During the study the engine operated at the technical condition recognized as „working properly” and with simulated fuel injector malfunctions. Simulation of malfunctions consisted in the increasing and decreasing of fuel injector static opening pressure, decalibration of fuel injector holes and clogging 2 neighboring of 9 fuel injector holes on one of 3 engine cylinders.

Résumé :
The quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer is of great interest for chemical analysis. Nevertheless, negative ion studies using in situ ionization (negative ions created inside the ion trap) are difficult and limited. This paper describes the difficulties that occurred during negative ion analysis when using a commercial gas chromatography quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometer (GC/MS) system. Detection problems, due to simultaneous trapping of both positive and negative ions, are explained by the large kinetic energies of the ejected ions. Negative ion formation, produced by electron capture, is limited by the fundamental RF field, which imparts high kinetic energy to the electrons, precluding the possibility that the electrons will reach the thermal energies needed for electron capture processes. In addition, simultaneous confinement of negative and positive ions affects the recorded mass spectra. Space charge potentials that exist inside the ion trap (due to the ionization conditions necessary to detect negative ions) induce the destabilization of positive ions at higher m/z ratios, while negative ions in the same m/z range are stabilized. Moreover, loss of resolution and decalibration could occur for negative ions when they are ejected in the presence of positive ions with higher m/z ratios. At the very least, ion-ion reactions could limit the observation of negative ions. The understanding of these phenomena, viz. detection, formation, and simultaneous confinement, will permit the proposal of solutions for negative ion analysis with quadrupole ion trap mass spectrometers using in situ ionization.Key words: mass spectrometry, quadrupole ion trap, negative ion, perfluorotributylamine, space charge.

Résumé :
Today digital sources supply a historically unprecedented component of human sensorimotor data, the consumption of which is correlated with poorly understood maladies such as Internet addiction disorder and Internet gaming disorder. Because both natural and digital sensorimotor data share common mathematical descriptions, one can quantify our informational sensorimotor needs using the signal processing metrics of entropy, noise, dimensionality, continuity, latency, and bandwidth. Such metrics describe in neutral terms the informational diet human brains require to self-calibrate, allowing individuals to maintain trusting relationships. With these metrics, we define the trust humans experience using the mathematical language of computational models, that is, as a primitive statistical algorithm processing finely grained sensorimotor data from neuromechanical interaction. This definition of neuromechanical trust implies that artificial sensorimotor inputs and interactions that attract low-level attention through frequent discontinuities and enhanced coherence will decalibrate a brain's representation of its world over the long term by violating the implicit statistical contract for which self-calibration evolved. Our hypersimplified mathematical understanding of human sensorimotor processing as multiscale, continuous-time vibratory interaction allows equally broad-brush descriptions of failure modes and solutions. For example, we model addiction in general as the result of homeostatic regulation gone awry in novel environments (sign reversal) and digital dependency as a sub-case in which the decalibration caused by digital sensorimotor data spurs yet more consumption of them. We predict that institutions can use these sensorimotor metrics to quantify media richness to improve employee well-being; that dyads and family-size groups will bond and heal best through low-latency, high-resolution multisensory interaction such as shared meals and reciprocated touch; and that individuals can improve sensory and sociosensory resolution through deliberate sensory reintegration practices. We conclude that we humans are the victims of our own success, our hands so skilled they fill the world with captivating things, our eyes so innocent they follow eagerly.

Résumé :
Abstract The innovation in visual imagery has led to massive growth in technologies, wherein digital cameras are obtainable at affordable prices. Thus, the digital images are easily captured and processed due to the internet connectivity. On the other hand, the development of strong image editing software facilitated the forgers to manipulate the accessible images with different tampering operations. Several techniques are devised for detecting the forgeries. Accordingly, this paper devises an anti-forensic model, namely Exponentially Weighted Moving Average-Chaotic Biography Based Optimization (E-CBBO) for joint photographic experts group (JPEG) compression to mitigate the forgeries occurred on the internet while transmitting data. The proposed E-CBBO is designed by integrating the properties of the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) with the chaotic biography-based optimization (CBBO). The suggested JPEG anti-forensic model is used to eliminate JPEG compression artifacts through the use of unique deblocking, smoothing with dither and decalibration operations. In addition, the goal is to balance visual quality and forensic undetectability when compressing the JPEG image. The fitness function is developed using the structural similarity index (SSIM), universal image quality index (UIQI) and histogram deviation parameters. With a maximum accuracy of 93.2%, a minimal MSE of 0.110, a maximum SSIM of 0.932 and a maximum UIQI of 0.890, the suggested E-CBBO beat existing approaches.

Résumé :
AbstractThe method of iterative particle reconstruction (IPR), introduced by Wieneke (Meas Sci Technol 24:024008, 2013), constitutes a major step toward Lagrangian particle tracking in densely seeded flows (Schanz et al. in Exp Fluids 57:1–27, 2016). Here we present novel approaches in several key aspects of the algorithm, which, in combination, triple the working range of IPR in terms of particle image densities. The updated method is proven to be fast, accurate and robust against image noise and other imaging artifacts. Most of the proposed changes to the original processing are easy to implement and come at low computational cost. Furthermore, a bundle adjustment scheme that simultaneously updates the 3D locations of all particles and the camera calibrations is introduced. While the particle position optimization proved to be more effective using localized ‘shake’ schemes, this so-called global shake scheme constitutes an effective measure to correct for decalibrations and vibrations, acting as an in-situ single-image volume-self-calibration. Further optimization strategies using such approaches are conceivable. Graphic abstract
