Résumé :
This paper describes and compares three amplifiers for ECG recording, namely a four-transistor stage band-pass amplifier, a DDA-based fully differential CMOS instrumentation amplifier and an OTA amplifier using current reuse. The performance metrics of the three amplifiers are listed, their respective advantages are compared, what factors limit their disadvantages are analyzed, the current state of the art and the direction of development of the ECG amplifier are indicated, and suggestions are given for further enhancement of the ECG amp. These amplifier circuits are designed in 0.35 µm CMOS and are verified by layout followed by simulation simulations. The results show that running at 2V dc supply, the quad-transistor stage amplifier and the DDA fully differential amplifier consume 672nW, obtain at least 2uVrms of input reference noise, and obtain greater common mode rejection ratios of 86dB and 83dB, while the OTA amplifier consumes less 320nW, obtains the most 2.05uVrms of input reference noise, and obtains a smaller common-mode rejection ratio of 65dB.

Résumé :
The performance of the power amplifier is closely related to their hardware components and current control modes. The work was focused on comparison of the experimental results based on different current sensors and the application of two different current control modes for 3-state amplifiers. When the same control mode was used, three kind of current sensors were tested and the corresponding amplifier current ripples were measured. Experimental results shown that when using a faster current sensor, the amplifier achieved smaller current ripples. Then a 3-state PWM current control mode and a Sample-Hold current control mode were compared based on the power amplifier circuit with the same hardware components. The performance difference in the experiments were studied and explained. The 3-state PWM power amplifier could achieve a better performance in actual use.

Résumé :
Despite excellent high frequency and high speed performance, current-feedback operational amplifiers (CFOAs) generally exhibit poor common-mode rejection (CMRR) properties, which limit their utility [Analogue IC design: The current–mode approach, IEE Circuits and Systems Series, Peter peregrinus, 1990]. A novel current feedback operational amplifier (CFOA) with improved performance is presented. The proposed CFOA has a new current-cell [Novel current-feedback operational amplifier Design Based on a floating circuit technique, IEE Colloquium on Analogue Signal Processing, 1998], to bias the entire circuit, which achieves an incremental output resistance twice that of the well-known "Wilson" circuit. Simulation results of this new CFOA architecture indicate that the amplifier exhibits performance characteristics superior to those obtained with an established input architecture: in particular, the CMRR (common-mode rejection ratio) is 91 dB, and the d.c. offset voltage less than 26 μV.

Résumé :
This work presents a comprehensive theoretical analysis of current-mode power amplifiers as a function of input power for different biasing classes under the common simplifying assumption of constant transconductance and hard current cut-off/saturation. Typically, the theoretical analysis of power amplifier performance and behavior are carried out only at maximum output power. However, to achieve high data-rates, modern telecommunication systems adopt signals characterized by a very high peak-to-average power ratio, thus it is useful to analyze the power amplifier behavior as a function of power back-off. Moreover, in many cases, to enhance the efficiency and/or to apply harmonic shaping techniques, a clipped drain-source current, which approaches a square wave, is required. The classical analysis can be extended to low power levels only under the assumption of power-independent conduction angle, which is true only for class-A and class-B amplifiers, and does not take into account possible waveform clipping at maximum current. This work presents a complete theoretical Fourier analysis of FET-based power amplifiers as a function of quiescent drain-source current at any input power level and accounting for the clipped current case, up to the square-wave limit, reorganizing and completing the material that can be found in classical textbooks in the field.

Résumé :
This paper presents an analysis of a reconstruction filter in a switched mode power amplifier system. Doubly and singly terminated filters for current-mode class-S power amplifiers were analyzed previously through analytical, numerical, and experimental approaches, and it was shown that only singly terminated filters can fulfill the requirements of current-mode switching amplifiers, owing to their constant input resistance over the pass-band. In this paper potential effects of the parasitic components in the actual filters and the filter termination are evaluated. The simulation and measurement results of current mode class-S power amplifier systems employing GaN HEMT MMICs are presented and critically analyzed.

Résumé :
In this paper, four instrumentation amplifier (IA) topologies, one of which is current-mode (CM) while the others are voltage-mode (VM), are presented. Three of the IAs use one to two current feedback operational amplifiers (CFOAs) while the other one employs only a single NMOS transistor. One of the IA circuits, given as an example, is simple while others are novel. The CM IA is composed of only grounded resistors which have some advantages in integrated circuit (IC) process. Non-ideality effects such as non-ideal gain and parasitic impedances on the performance of introduced IAs are discussed. In order to show the performance of the circuits, we perform experimental tests and simulations by using SPICE program.

MTCMOS (Multi-Threshold CMOS), sleepy stack, sleepy keeper, and footer stack are examples of low power saving techniques incorporated into the core gpdk 90nm technology papers used in the proposed study using Cadence. The main focus of these tests is the power consumption of various sense amplifier circuits. The simulation results show that the charge-transfer sense amplifier uses much less energy than voltage and current sense amplifiers. The present mode detecting amplifier’s power consumption can be decreased by up to 98 percent by using MTCMOS technology.

Résumé :
A novel micro-power current sense amplifier employing a cross-coupled current-mirror configuration is presented. The circuit is designed for low-voltage low-power SRAM applications. Its sensing speed is independent of the bit-line capacitances and is almost insensitive to the data-line capacitances. Extensive post-layout simulation results based on a 1.8 V/0.18 μm CMOS technology from Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. (CHRT) have verified that the new sense amplifier promises a much sought-after power-efficient advantage and a note-worthy power-delay product superiority over the conventional and recently reported sense amplifier circuits. These attributes of the proposed sense amplifier make it judiciously appropriate for use in the contemporary high-complexity regime, which incessantly craves for low-power characteristics.

Résumé :
A very high bandwidth class AB (Push-Pull) current amplifier using the compensation resistor technique is presented and analyzed. Such technique stands as a powerful method of bandwidth enhancement for general circuits using CMOS current mirrors. The proposed bandwidth is enhanced from 675 MHz for the uncompensated current amplifier to 745MHz for the compensated one without affecting the current gain and other design parameters such as power consumption and output swing. The circuit exhibits a current gain of 20 dB and consumes 1.48 mW for ?2.5V power supply voltage. All simulation results were performed using Hspice tool with 0.35^m CMOS TSMC parameters.

Résumé :
This article presents the design for a basic current mode building block for analog signal processing, called Current Controlled Current Differencing Buffered Amplifier (CC-CDBA). Its parasitic resistances at two current input ports can be controlled by an input bias current. The output current and voltage offset are quite low. The proposed element was realized in a BiCMOS technology and the voltage follower in the element is modified to achieve high performance properties. Its performances are examined through PSPICE simulations. In addition, examples as a current-mode multiplier/divider and current amplifier are included, compared to the conventional CC-CDBA implementation. They disclose performances of the proposed CC-CDBA superior to previous CC-CDBA.
