Résumé :
In this paper, triple-band stacked microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) are presented with wide impedance bandwidth and suppressed cross-polarization level. Triangular and circular shaped slots are embedded in the patch of antenna. Slot-loaded microstrip patches are fed with meandered microstrip line supported by a semi-ground plane structure. Triangular shaped slot-loaded MPA shows triple resonance at frequencies 2.2, 4.45, and 5.3 GHz having bandwidth of 45.9, 19.23, and 15.67%, respectively. Circular shaped slot-loaded MPA also shows triple resonance at frequencies 2.2, 4.42, and 5.38 GHz having bandwidth of 50.24, 33.21, and 13.43%, respectively. Using circular slot in place of triangular; bandwidth of the first and the second band is improved by 4.34 and 13.98%, respectively. Both the proposed antennas show an omnidirectional radiation pattern at all three resonance frequencies in the xz-plane with almost 0 dBi gain. Both the proposed antennas are fabricated on a FR-4 epoxy substrate and show a minimum level of cross-polarization radiations.

Résumé :
AbstractThis paper presents a cavity-backed dual-slot antenna in 0.13-μm SiGe BiCMOS technology. The dual-slot structure is excited by a cross-shaped strip line and a cavity which is formed by the topmost metal layer connected to the bottom metal layer through vias in between. By adopting dual-slot and cross-shaped feed line, the bandwidth is significantly enhanced by 196% compared with the single-slot antenna with straight feed line. The reason for bandwidth enhancement has been analyzed. The proposed antenna shows a measured impedance bandwidth of 15.2 GHz from 248.2 to 263.4 GHz for |S11| < −10 dB. The simulated and measured peak gains of the cavity-backed dual-slot antenna are −1.3 and −2.1 dBi, respectively. The simulated radiation efficiency is 31.1%. The total size of the antenna is 0.46 mm × 0.48 mm.

Résumé :
In the design of circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) arrays, the regular-shaped DRAs with simple feeding configurations are mostly used as array elements to make the design procedure more efficient. However, such array element DRA usually achieves only about 6% axial ratio (AR) bandwidth. In this paper, a CP DRA element coupled by a fractal cross-slot which can radiate efficiently and excite the rectangular DRA simultaneously is considered. By adjusting the dimensions of the fractal cross-slot properly, the resonances of the fractal cross-slot and the dielectric resonator can be merged to obtain a wider AR bandwidth. Based on the proposed fractal cross-slot-coupled CP DRA element, two different CP DRA arrays are designed: a wideband CP DRA array and a low-sidelobe-level (SLL) CP DRA array. The designed DRA arrays are fabricated and measured, and structures and performances of the arrays are presented and discussed.

Résumé :
In order to solve the problem of the traditional u-shaped canal, including of size small, joint bad problems, water penetration, and bad ability of frost resistance, this paper launched preliminary research of a new u-shaped product development. Length of new canal products is twice; steel fiber of coated copper can increase resistance of rust and crack than traditional U-shaped canal. Hydro-expansive rubber of Putty type was applied to improve the compatibility of deformation joint and improve the permeability resistance. The best filling cross-section rectangle is truly adopted, not only having all advantages of traditional U-shaped canal and ladder type, but also having high mechanical properties, excellent durability, good environmental performance, good quality assembly components, high ratio of cost and performance. It is upgrading products of control the structure of traditional u-shaped slot and ladder type slot and can solve the "last kilometer" problem in the field.

Résumé :
A novel design of an ultra-wideband (UWB) slot antenna is presented. This antenna operates as a transmitter and receiver antenna. Effects of the antenna dimensional parameters are studied through experimental and simulation results. Design procedures are developed and verified for different frequency bands. The experimental and simulation results exhibit good impedance bandwidth, radiation pattern, and relatively constant gain over the entire band of frequency. Antenna gain and directivity at boresight and in their maximum states are close to each other and indicate high radiation efficiency. To use the antenna as a linearly polarized antenna, the radiation pattern in E-plane is better thanthat inH-plane.

Résumé :
A compact cross-shaped slotted microstrip patch antenna is proposed for circularly polarized (CP) radiation. A symmetric, cross-shaped slot is embedded along one of the diagonal axes of the circular patch for CP radiation and antenna size reduction. The structure is asymmetric (unbalanced) along the diagonal axes. The overall size of the antenna with CP radiation can be reduced by cross shaped slot. The symmetric cross-shaped slot cut within the first quadrant of the circular patch. There are huge demands for the miniaturization of the mobile communications equipment. Microstrip circularly polarized antennas are attractive in satellite communication systems owing to their good features such as low profile, light weight and easy to fabricate. A number of single-fed circularly polarized microstrip antennas are described. The major advantage of single-feed circularly polarized microstrip is their simple structure. There are a number of approaches to reduce the size of patch antennas . embedding cross slots of unequal length or equal lengths . In this thesis the performance of the cross-shaped microstrip antenna is studied with various types of substrate which have different types of electrical permittivity with same thickness is about 1.6mm. Now a days the Selection of the most suitable substrate for a Microstrip antenna is a prime important. There is because of many limitations of the microstrip antenna such as high return loss, low gain and low efficiency can be overcome by selecting an appropriate substrate for fabrication of the antenna. The substate properties such as its dielectric constant, loss tangent have a pronounced effect on the antenna characteristics. The radius of circular patch is 24.8mm. The antenna is operated at 2.091 GHz, and built by using a Benzo-cyclo-buten material which gives good antenna parameters. The Electrical permittivity of this substrate is 2.6. with a coaxial probe single feed. All analytical results have been simulated by IE3D software.

Résumé :
This chapter outlines a view of Construction Grammar in which the mental grammar of speakers is shaped by the repeated exposure to specific utterances, and in which domain-general cognitive processes such as categorization and cross-modal association play a crucial role in the entrenchment of constructions. Under this view, all linguistic knowledge is viewed as emergent and constantly changing. The chapter emphasizes that the process of chunking along with categorization leads to the creation of constructions. It also provides semantic/pragmatic and phonetic arguments for exemplar representation and a discussion of the role of type and token frequency in determining the structure of the schematic slots in constructions, as well as the productivity of constructions.

Résumé :
The aim is to design a Rhombus microstrip patch antenna. The antenna operates at FL=1.447 GHz to FH=2.382 GHz frequency for wireless local area network (WLAN). This antenna operates at f=1.914 GHz resonant frequency. In microstrip patch antenna, many types of shapes like circular, triangular, rectangular, square, ring shape, etc. are used, but in this design a rectangular shape is used. In proposed antenna, the accuracy and efficiency are increased. Integral equation three-dimensional (3D) software (IE3D) is used for the optimize of the rhombus cross-slotted antenna design. The IE3D uses a full wave method of moment simulator. This antenna fabricated on FR4 glass epoxy double-sided copper dielectric material with relative permittivity of ∈ =4.4, thickness h= 1.60mm, and loss tangent is 0.013.

Résumé :
The flow geometry encountered in many polymer processing operations of industrial importance is often far more complex than that in cylindrical or slit dies. As will be shown in the following chapters, the industry manufactures polymeric products using very complex flow geometries. For instance, the fiber industry produces “shaped fibers,” which have cross sections that are noncircular. What is most intriguing in the production of shaped fibers is that a desired fiber shape is often produced by spinneret holes whose cross-sectional shape is quite different from that of the final fiber produced. Hence, an important question may be raised as to how one can determine, from a sound theoretical basis, the cross-sectional shape of spinneret holes that will produce a fiber with a desired cross-sectional shape. In extrusion and injection molding, a polymeric liquid invariably passes through a large cross section before entering into a small cross section, and such a flow is referred to as “entrance flow.” The entrance flow of polymeric liquids, due to their viscoelastic nature, is quite different from that of Newtonian liquids. Similarly, the flow behavior of viscoelastic polymeric liquids near the exit of a die, commonly referred to as “exit flow,” is quite different from that of Newtonian liquids. A better understanding of the unique characteristics of both entrance and exit flows of viscoelastic polymeric fluids is essential for successful design of extrusion dies and molds, as well as to solve difficult technical problems related to a particular processing operation. Before presenting specific polymer processing operations in following chapters, in this chapter we consider the flow of polymeric liquids through complex geometry: (1) fully developed flow through a rectangular channel with uniform channel depth; (2) fully developed flow through a rectangular channel with a moving channel wall; (3) flow through a rectangular channel with varying channel depth; (4) flow in the entrance region of a rectangular die having constant cross section; (5) flow through a tapered die; (6) flow in the exit region of a cylindrical or slit die; (7) flow through a slit die having side holes; and (8) flow through a coat-hanger die.

Résumé :
The future of the gas turbine industry is strongly relying on the development of new efficient cooling schemes. Film cooling is one popular and reliable cooling technique, one way to increase the film cooling effectiveness is through the use of shaped holes. In this paper two proposed shaped holes are being studied and compared thoroughly against the conventional round hole film cooling. The two proposed holes are based on the theoretically perfect continuous slot film cooling, however, these slots are not continuous, and preserves the solid surface to the total blade surface ratio. The first design to be studied is the Rectangular Divergent Slot, and the second is the Aeroslot, which is a discrete aerodynamically shaped slot; both designs showed an increase in the centerline film cooling effectiveness when compared to the conventional round holes. The Aeroslot showed a large increase in film cooling effectiveness for the same blowing ratio, and mass flow rate of coolant, when compared to the other shapes. A sensitivity study of the blowing ratio to the centerline film cooling effectiveness is carried out for several blowing ratios, covering different jet in cross flow behaviors, fully attached jet, and detached-reattached jet.
